Which types are you referring too?

Gorshkov

Type XXI and Type XXIII replacing it in your mod.

Madox58
06-27-10, 06:57 PM
The Type XXIII in GWX 3 is an AI Unit.
The Type XXI has an underwater range of 221 Miles @ 6 knots in GWX 3.

Gorshkov
06-28-10, 05:37 AM
- Type XXI should have 280Nm at 6kts so 221 nm is a bit too small value. Anyway this is much better than 60 nm at 5 kts in OM.

- Type XXIII can be playable sub in GWX if you install this (http://www.filefront.com/14171521/XXIII_GWX3.7z/) jimbuna's mod.

Can U-boats in GWX mod carry two types of RWR at the same time: first covering VHF-band and second covering S-band or S/X-band frequencies? Was it possible in reality?

- for instance: FuMB-9 "Zypern II" (VHF) and FUMB-7 "Naxos" (S-band) using the same FuMB-3 "Bali" antenna in the 11.1943-9.1944 period.

- or maybe two separate antennas could be installed for each RWR? For example: FuMB-26 "Tunis" (S,X-band) with FuMB-24/25 "Cuba I/II" antennas and FuMB-10 "Borkum" (VHF) with FuMB-6 "Palau" or FuMB-3 "Bali" antenna in the 1944-45 period.

Yet maybe it was unnecessary because as war progressed Allies switched completely to S and X band radars abandoning older VHF-band types?

CTD usually on loading is due to the program looking for a file that is either corrupted or missing. If you have disabled all your mods and still get CTD with none activated, you probably will have to reinstall.

how do you see ships flags at night:-?

With your eyes, just like a real kaleun. :D

But if you have not disabled the external cam, you can zoom up close enough to get a good look at them.

If you've disabled it, you'll have to get your u-boat close enough to identify it either through the binocs if you're surfaced or the periscope if you're submerged.

So if you're hooked on playing as realistically as possible, it really is just a matter of getting close enough to ID it.

There is a "flags enlighten" mod that's designed to make it a little easier to ID them; info here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=152479&highlight=flags

If full realism is not something you're concerned about, you can also try this mod:

http://www.filefront.com/13913010/GWX-Contact_Color.7z

It adds back in the colors for contacts on your nav map, which will allow you to distinguish between enemy, neutral, and friendly ships when they show up there.

Oh and welcome aboard!

Sometimes this happens because, according to the game's set parameters for such things, the ship is too far out of range to get a firm lock on it, or is moving in and out of the "lockable" range. Usually I find it happens at night and/or when weather conditions increase the distance at which it would be possible to lock on and ID a target.

From 4000k out, I wouldn't waste the eels unless she was already sitting dead in the water. But then the Hood would be soooooo tempting...

Re the u-boat location marker, I think this mod restores it:

but you might want to wait and see if someone else chimes in to confirm that, since I'm going on memory of other posts and haven't used it myself.

CTD usually on loading is due to the program looking for a file that is either corrupted or missing. If you have disabled all your mods and still get CTD with none activated, you probably will have to reinstall.

You can check the above but first, if you recently installed a mod, try leaving that out of the mix. Look at your date last saved game and remove mods installed since then.

Process of elimination detective work will sometimes help pinpoint which is causing the error.

translation French / English.
I summarize my problem: By chance, rummaging through the files in the Sea, opening them with Silent 3D, I came across a file called "dat" corrupted: that of NHSL boat, ship hospital. When trying to open it with S3D, they notify me that a mistake.
I still have two solutions: either simply remove the entire folder "NHSL" over the name in the "xxnames" or repair it, but how?
By taking the solution is there a risk of bugs?
My Mod: gwx3, no mod replenishing boats.

Salut Clouclou,

Respectueusement,

Alex

This is rough. I know I'm running a little late (ok, a lot late), but I just bought SHIII and am looking to get some mod's for it. I have been doing some reading and am (was) looking forward to GWX 3.0 and getting them installed. But to find the GW's have been disbanded and things are falling apart are sad indeed.
It's been difficult to find which ones I need and which have been updated, which to download, etc.
Does the Subsim SuperDVD have these mod's on it ??
Any suggestions on where to go and what to look for - for a latecomer just now investing in SHIII ??

I do plan on picking up SHIV within the year so perhaps I should start looking at getting the mod's for that as well. Then burn all these mods to disk so I have them when needed as it sounds as though getting in on this late does have it's disadvantages.

Hi Hangman - welcome!

Re GWX, altho the development team responsible for that supermod is no longer working together on newer versions of it, GWX3 Gold is still very much available (temporary FileFront issues notwithstanding), perfectly playable, and awesome. You will also find plenty of "technical support" for it in the ginormous manual that comes with it as well as from members of the team and other users just by asking or searching for it in these forums. So don't let talk of the team "disbanding" dissuade you from trying it out. All that means is that they finished the job they set out to do - the results are still there for everyone to enjoy.

There are also other supermods available that are documented and/or discussed in the Mods Workshop forum if you want to give one or all of those a looksee. That forum is also a gold mine of information on lots of other, smaller mods to enhance various aspects of gameplay. You can also find a lot of stuff by clicking on the Downloads link and browsing through what's available for each game - if you have questions, check in the forum for any relevant threads and then ask away.

Gwx as awesome as i remember--have had limited time but got to run a patrol or 2---now to add some of the amazing goodies that the subsim modders have been coming up with--my eyes bleeding from reading all the pages:)

Hi,

I'm using the nHancer with a pre-set profile for a Nividia graphic card.

Currently, I'm using the following mods:

Looks like you've a good mod mix thre. I'd suggest you disable all that didn't come with GWX and see if that sorts it.

If it does, enable one unnoficial mod at a time until the problem returns, then you'll know which mod is causing the problem.

A PITA I know, but probably the only way of finding out for sure.

when i use windows help it answears that a bin file is a paert of an program ,and therefor there is no program that will run it...

Thanks for the hint. Do you have any suggestions from experience, which ones it could be or which ones have not yet, caused any such problems?

It would be unfair for me to speculate because it may be deemed offensive by other mod makers.

What I will say is....it is not the fault of an official GWX mod because they were all thoroughly tested prior to inclusion/release with the mod.

I'm sorry but that is as much as I can say plus the fact we have always stipulated we cannot give technical assistance to third party/unnofficial mods.

You could always contact the mod makers themselves.

The file comeing down from Jimbuna's Filefront is missing the .exe extension.

Right click it and rename to GWX3.exe
So you should have 7 BIN files and one un-named extension file.
The un-named extension is the exe file.

I'm running a variety of mods using GWX 3.0 and I'm extremely happy with the game! I notice when I'm at sea and submerged and press F12 for free view there is no sound on the surface, no crashing of the waves or anything but when I approach ships I can hear their engines and related sounds so the mechanism is fine.

I think the standard SH3 hides this silence with music but this is disabled with GWX.

Is there a change I can make to introduce sea sounds?

Thanks

The only "for sure" uncorrupted files at the moment AFAIK are at Jimbuna's FileFront page here:

http://www.filefront.com/user/JimbunaGWX2/

You'll need all seven of the GWX3 bin files plus the GWX3.exe file. Be aware that there have been problems with downloading from FF lately but I think they were getting sorted out... might want to PM Jimbuna to make sure before starting to redownload. He also has some other options like a torrent or single file download if you're interested in that.

How do I get a clean new install?

Jimbuna
08-12-10, 04:31 AM
I'm sorry but I know little about Steam and how it installs the game :-?

Is it not possible to obtain a further copy from Steam and install it into a different location?

The primary requirement for GWX3.0 is that it should be installed into a fresh/unmofified version of SH3, patched to 1.4b.

I should imagine the Steam version will already be patched.

Hey oztruck - I had the exact same problem with steam, thing is that it installs it away from the location the GWX installer is loooking for, when I pointed it to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunter 3

It worked fine.

I'm using windows 7 though so yours may be slightly different

if so do a search for SH3.exe and then copy the path...

Good luck.

I understand they felt GWX for SH4 was going to be a huge waste of time, after all SH5, from the get go was going to be EPIC! and they felt it would be a huge WASTE.. Why build a Mustang for us, when were all getting a Lamborghini!

The fact is, they should of waited for SH5 to come out.. Maybe not dedicate much time to SH4 GWX (which I don't even play, but have and know the potential) but just keep it open for options..

I feel bad they left and decided to NEVER again do any GWX (which is weird as it was just a hobby and something to help us all out)

I wonder how they feel now after knowing SH5 is a DISASTER of a game, and SH4 GWX we could only imagine how great it could of been.

With all that, I lost my SH4 disc somewhere during a couple moves.. I would rather get it "other ways" and give them the 20 or 30 bucks.

It doesn't pay bills, but maybe show them the appreciation we all have. Even if it takes YEARS to come out, who cares, I am sure we will all wait :)

It's not weird - it's called "burn-out". Even and especially for a hobby, many of them put in WAAAAY too many hours and MUCH hard work - they just called it quits out of sheer exhaustion. I greatly applaud the work they have done, and after a while to recuperate some of them may return - but I fear not as the focussed, dedicated organization they were. As times go on, things change - and the "Grey Wolves" have left a very large legacy behind them.

But almost anything you "burn out" from you get back into it.. I love Jiu-Jitsu and very often get burnt out from it.. So I stop for a while, but since its something I love to do, I always return to it.. Shoot, I just started to build model planes again and haven't since I was a kid.. I think we can all name about a hundred hobbies we all love and hate at the same time :)

Its just at the end of the day, we do it and continue to do it because WE LOVE IT.. Unless they were really miserable and hated doing it, I cannot see never going back to it.

This doesn't mean I don't appreciate what they have done! I am a huge fan of GWX, I just don't buy the statement that they will NEVER do another GWX mod again.. Unless as I said, they don't like doing it.

There were quite a few reasons The Grey Wolves eventually decided to call it a day.....reasons I'm not prepared to go into publicly because some were of a personal nature and some even life changing.

The post/announcement made by Kpt Lehmann is very accurate but as I posted earlier, there are a few of us still modding SH3 and V but not in such an expansive or organised way.

I'm sincerely hoping to see a mod group form and tackle the job of improving SHV.....I just can't see it happening in the nearby future until an announcement from Ubisoft is released regarding the topic of future game patches.

I don't believe anyone is trying to 'sell' the thought to you.
Sure We love to mod the SH series of Games.
Some of us still do in many ways.
But many are burned out on any major work.
We enjoy the small things now.
Even the kinda big small things.

I(which is weird as it was just a hobby and something to help us all out)
When one person does it, it's just a hobby, which is why many of them are still doing it.

When a team is organized, it becomes...well, an organization, with all the dynamics that entails. Someone has to be in charge, which means he has all the headaches that go with management. The people who were doing what they wanted for fun are now assigned to do certain jobs they may not like so much. Somebody has to test it, which doesn't mean playing the game for fun, but playing the same scenario over, and over, and over. And when it doesn't work properly the manager has to tell the person who made that part, and he has to drop whatever he's doing now so he can go back and try to make it right. Once he's satisfied he has to send it back to the testers, who have to play it over, and over, and over again. And if it's right this time it then has to be sent to the guy who will combine it with other mods so he can send it back to the testers to make sure they work together.

In short, what was a hobby is now a job. A job involving long hours of overtime for exactly no pay. The only reward is the high praise of the people it was done for, and the risk is that you will spend the next several years fielding the complaints of people who found mistakes the testers missed, or just complaints from people who wish you had done it differently.

SH4 already has a great supermod start in OM. What it needs now isn't GWX. What it needs now is all the great SH3 mods that have come out since GWX, including the best of LSH3 and WAC. But the people who are still modding SH3 aren't interested in SH4. Too bad from my point of view, but it's their business, not mine.

If you really want SH4 to improve, start learning.

Gentlemen, I had GWX 3 installed and running on system (though I rarely played it!) and recently had a serious system crash.
I need to re-install SH3 & GWX (as I plan to actually make time to play them) but I just cannot face downloading all the required files again.
Is it still possible to obtain the GWX 3.0 on disk?
I didn't want to start sending pm's to the team members if the team is now out of action or unavailable.
Thanks for any suggestions.

For the record......whilst The Grey Wolves may have disbanded, we are still in regular contact with each other via email, telephone, TS, SS etc.

GWX3.0 is freely available on disc from the above for free/gratis to those who don't have the capability to download the files but consideration must be given to whereabouts in the world you reside eg: if someone from the US was wanting a disc I'd expect it would be a team member from that continent who would accomodate such a request/need.

For myself, I'm posting 4 to 5 discs per week from the UK and have sent them as far afield as South America.

I am able to send the two variants (7 bins plus 1 exe or the full single file install) links to them as well as torrent links are available from my FF account (link above my sig).

BtS has a download link to the full single file install (in 2 parts):

Added to all the above it is very gratifying yet not suprising when you consider the calibre and generosity of the fine people of this SS community that people are kind enough to offer their help.

French voices have never been part of SH3 nor GWX.
But you can get em via some site called MilleSabords or something like that if I remember correctly, just google it. ;)

That mod was never intended to be part of GWX. We french people are just a few compared to our english speaking mates. So let's say making GWX3.0 install files 150MB larger than they got to be was really not worth the cost.
Want more informations regarding GWX3.0's french fix ?

GWX preserves the game's native 4:3 aspect ratio. Creating one mod that would provide an honest-to-goodness, functional WS "experience" for everyone who wants it doesn't seem to be within the realm of possibilty, primarily because of the wide variety of monitors/systems out there and the fact that there is no one "standard" WS ratio/resolution that works for all of them.

There are some widescreen mods available or in process, threads on them can be found by searching this forum... altho' I believe one of them may be stickied at the top of it.

If you got the file from Filefront it's possible it did not download with the full filename, including the .exe extension; this has been a lingering problem with the Filefront downloads.

Right click on the filename to rename it and add the .exe extension. Then double (left) click as usual to open the file and it should begin the installation process.

Assuming that what you have now is "GWX3" with no file extension, then yes.

Whatever it's currently called, add ".exe" to the end of that. That's what tells Windows what kind of file it is - without that, the OS doesn't know what to do with it, which is why you get the message asking what program you'd like to use to open it.

Who plays all in Silent Hunter 3 with modom «GWX 3»! Setting this remarkable fashions, I ran into erroneous position in Areas of ships and airplanes, and also some inaccuracies of weapon, descriptions of ships and other, that from the first time does not strike the eyes.
This the fashions of «Corrections GWX 3» called to remove found out all by me «errors» in a fashion. Maude is contained by two folders and description of corrections on the English and Russian languages. Now you will be able to scupper a ship and by one torpedo, if will get in a vulnerable place, but I did not change speed of submergence of compartments, that ships sank realistically.
Also to the game the «Polish campaign is added 1939 years».

I am not 100% certain what you are referring to but if my suspicions are correct and you are claiming to have found errors in GWX then have made 'corrections' to files then common courtesy dictates you could/should have contacted a member of the team and discussed prior to working on what is quite clearly GWX files.

Many of the "inaccuracies" if in fact that is what they are were put in for a reason....often realised after many hundreds of hours game testing by a hard working group of testers.

I have downloaded your files and your readme refers to changes in files that may and I repeat the word 'may' have a detrimental effect on other existing GWX files which could possibly create instability in the GWX supermod.

1. Errors are corrected in areas 81 transport and some battle ships;
2. Errors are corrected in the areas of airplanes
3. Corrections are brought in on artileriyskim and zenithal facilities of submarine boat of player;
4. Start of campaign of nachinaet'sya from September, 1939;
5. Power of torpedoes is corrected;
6. Power of some live ammunitions is corrected;
7. Durability of airplanes is mionectic;
8. Firmness of corps of boat is megascopic before small-bore zenithal shells;
9. Distance of surface motion of submarines is megascopic +25% from the plane of the playing world;
10. Surface and submarine speed of motion of submarines is corrected to the historical values;
11. Added to the game and corrected in the file of ZON ironclad "Schleswig-Holshtein";
12. The Polish campaign is added to the game 1939 years.

This thread to the best of my understanding is for community support re GWX3.0 and not for unauthorised releases of what is primarily GWX files.

Would it not be better you commence a new thread and explain more fully what the incorporated changes are and preferably an assurance your files are compatable with those of GWX3.0?

Respectfully

A quick look tells me that changes to the .zon files of the
K-Ship, V-1, NTRW, and Drache are NOT improvements.
They are personnal preferences of the releaseing poster.
Those Units were designed as they are for many reasons.
If you don't like them, Fine, change them.
But don't call them improvements!
You've missed the whole point of those Units in GWX.

Dear Jimbuna!
This the fashions from the beginning not planned, as a new release, but created in support already existent GWX 3.
To begin a new theme I think does not stand.
In fashions mainly brought in change on the areas of transport ships and airplanes. Corrections touched only those yunitov, where position of areas was located not quite in those places where it followed them to be. It is special to touch fuel bunkers and machine engines.
Some areas for example different sizes have port and right sides of ship and set not mirror, but some areas absent. Durability of transports is overpriced so that it is a more cruiser and battleships. And when it is necessary to destroy a transport, and he does not sink and after 4 torpedo hits – it a few irritates.
Changes do not influence on the general atmosphere of game and they are fully consonant with GWX 3. If you need detailer information, write me personally. I will endeavour to answer all Your questions.
Excuse me, but the my English is very bad.
With kind regards, Mariman.

I did not talk that these are improvements, and only corrections are directed on the removals of not correct position of Boxings and Spheres in the file of Areas.

I think you have to activate the merged campaign if you are using the Atlantic or Med.

Hi, kaleuns: I like to use the merged campaign GWX submod, but I use the FM 30 UpDown Final; this mod replace the campaign files as I can see in JSGME. If I put the Merged Campaign after FM30UD, it is possible or I modify this mod (blow the mod...)?

Thanks and regards.

Nope. The Kriegsmarine used the grid system shown on the map, although it was broken down into smaller grids than the game's Navmap will display. You can see an example of this on the pulldown map showing shipping lanes in GWX or here at uboat.net:

You were way too deep, 20M at the most, and way too fast, no more than 2kt. At 4kt they can hear you from a long ways away. Position yourself ahead of the convoy to one side of the lead escort and wait for it to pass by you. Once it has passed you, and gotten more than 1000M away, you can then start moving at no more than 2kts towards your attack position, and come up to periscope depth.

I'm still in my first patrol of only my second career, but I already want to start over with GWX :) There's one thing I'd like to know, though; the manual says that ships appear as grey icons on the map, so you have to find out if the ship is friendly, neutral or enemy. But how does this work?

Does the icon turn blue/green/red automatically when in certain range? Or will the icon stay grey, and I have to check the flag myself? But isn't that impossible, unless you're really, really close??

frau kaleun
01-09-11, 09:19 PM
If you install the GWX supermod over your game, you will no longer see colored icons on the map at all, no matter how close to a ship you get. The icons on the map will all be (and stay) the same color no matter where a ship is from. You'll need to ID every ship yourself by getting close enough to see its flags/markings/etc. from the bridge or the periscope.

But you can get the color-coding back after installing GWX by downloading and enabling the Contact Color mod. You can find it here at Subsim:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=33

or at Jimbuna's Filefront page, there's a link to that in his sig. :DL

I would suggest staying away from all US ships, planes, bases, and coastlines for the next 24 hours. For that length of time after the sinking, Uncle Sam considers you his sworn enemy. Enjoy your private one-day war with the US Armed Forces! :O:

Other than that, I dunno, have you edited the renown penalty for sinking neutrals? If not, IIRC you'll lose the same amount you would've gained had the ship been from an enemy nation (at least in GWX).

ummm
I'm sure this has been addressed SOMEWHERE in here, but I ain't wading thru almost 400 pages to find the answer, sorry :timeout:
I thought that with GWX I was supposed to start a career with the full 1500 reknown (from completing the training missions) without actually doing the training missions ... I'm clearly wrong, as I started with only 500 reknown .... is that correct?
...
also, i may have to drop back to non-manual targeting for awhile until I get used to this sim again ... using MaGUI as well, 'cause it's cool and awesome ... but DAMN is it hard to do!! LOLz :arrgh!:
