On behalf of the entire GWX Mod Team, I am pleased to announce our 'Gold' release...

GWX version 3.0!!!

The primary objective of this release has been to consolidate all official GWX files and fixes released to date for SH3.

Before this release, for a full and correct GWX installation, you had to first download GWX 2.0, then download GWX 2.1, and finally download the fixes released by bigboywooly on top of it all.

Now before getting all upset that we haven't jam-packed it with tons of new features this time... we have added a few important changes. (Watching you all speculate over the last weeks... its been hard to keep silent.)

Features:

First and foremost... something I consider to be a MAJOR breakthrough in SH3 environmental work. The environmental files for the GWX 16 kilometer atmosphere mod have been overhauled with the critical assistance of Subsim forum member "Onelifecrisis." Most of you are familiar with his previous releases adjusting the Sh3 environmental files, and his user interface modifications. OLC was the first that I am aware of to definitively remove the obnoxious horizon defect in currently available 16 km environments... In GWX 3.0 we have blended elements of our own work that we wanted to retain... with his awesome work.

In my opinion, we've gotten the best of both worlds.

HOWEVER! What you may not be aware of is that he has largely REMOVED THE POLYGON effect from the waves present in ALL other environmental mods for SH3 currently available...

AFTER OLC's modification with GWX 3.0! REDUCED POLYGON EFFECT with certain light angles... giving us water that is far closer to SH4 than any other arrangement currently available for SH3.


Additionally, (with the control-room only) when you dive or ascend, the interior angle view changes to match the angle of ascent or decent! Special thanks to Anvart and Vickers03.

I hope you will understand that our crew is very tired... and being Christmas Eve... it is time for family, friends, and a bit of quiet peace.

Please be patient with us as we upload the GWX 3.0 files to more locations and media types for further availability over the coming days. We know the website must be updated. ;) Just give us a few days to do what we know we need to do.

Guys, please do not expect rapid or consistent user support on Christmas Day.

GWX 3.0 TOTALLY replaces all previous GWX builds which are no longer supported.

GWX 3.0 MUST be installed over a fresh-clean installation of SH3 patched to version 1.4b.

GWX 3.0 MAY NOT be installed over previous versions of GWX.

GWX 2.0 Installation instructions:

1. Create a fresh/brand new installation of SH3 patched to version 1.4b
2. Go into your "My Documents" and delete the "SH3" folder you find there. Old Silent Hunter III careers will not be compatible with GWX 2.0
3. Create a new folder on your desktop and label it "GWX 2.0"
4. Download the "GWX2.exe file and all seven .bin files to the folder you just created on your desktop.
5. It is recommended that you burn these files to CD's or a DVD for safe-keeping
6. Double click the GWX2.exe file and follow the directions that appear.

Users can verify GWX 2.0 file integrity with the following MD5 hash if they so choose:

:up: I finished two patrols in a type IIA today. (DLed it yesterday - thanks Kpt.Lehmann!)
It's impressive! TGW1.1 used to CTD occasionally for me, but GWx is not CTDing at all!

The first patrol hit bad weather neer the Shetlands and I had to turn back after I ran short on fuel after 2 weeks. I saw 2 neutral ships with their lights on and a plane flew over me.

The second patrol also hit bad weather on the Essex coast, but I fired a fan of 3 Torps at a beautiful C&V Destroyer. Two hits. She exploded and sank within 20 seconds.

Everything works well and looks great. Most of the sounds are good altho the torpedo motor sound loops instead of being steady.

The Ship damage is an improvement on NYGM. Sub damage works well too.
The campaign leaves me speechless. Great work!.

I can't wait till Bdu gives me a VIIC and I can get out to the convoys and taskforces!

Just put the parts you´ve already downloaded, to the same folder where you are downloading the torrent.

Stop the torrent, copy the bin´s that you already have into the correct bittorrent download folder (overwrite the old files), then start the torrent again. That should work...

Azureus and UTorrent are good programs for torrent downloading. It's a peer-to-peer system.

I've just been testing a few different methods and it seems you need to get a torrent client if you want GWX ASAP, I'm getting 40-50kps with the filefront, megaupload links and averaging 80kps with the torrent. Just a heads up guys, this may change over a few hours...

Guys, I installed my no cd patch because my computer will not run the game with star force. This made my game crash. I guess GWX didn't like it. Any way around this?
This, (nocd), isn't something that's well tolerated in this forum, but I will say that I doubt very much if GWX has any preference as to the .exe's origin, since if it did it would be a GRAVE conflict of interest for a MOD to REQUIRE an original.exe.

The first patrol hit bad weather neer the Shetlands and I had to turn back after I ran short on fuel after 2 weeks. I saw 2 neutral ships with their lights on and a plane flew over me.

The second patrol also hit bad weather on the Essex coast, but I fired a fan of 3 Torps at a beautiful C&V Destroyer. Two hits. She exploded and sank within 20 seconds.

Everything works well and looks great. Most of the sounds are good altho the torpedo motor sound loops instead of being steady.

The Ship damage is an improvement on NYGM. Sub damage works well too.
The campaign leaves me speechless. Great work!.

I can't wait till Bdu gives me a VIIC and I can get out to the convoys and taskforces!

Guys, I installed my no cd patch because my computer will not run the game with star force. This made my game crash. I guess GWX didn't like it. Any way around this?
This, (nocd), isn't something that's well tolerated in this forum, but I will say that I doubt very much if GWX has any preference as to the .exe's origin, since if it did it would be a GRAVE conflict of interest for a MOD to REQUIRE an original.exe.
Maybe check your "read me" again?
Neither the installer or GWX cares. The installer only cares that sh3.exe is v1.4.0.1, which it is either way.

GWX is everything I was expecting and then some. I have had access to GWX since alpha and it has changed allot since then. Since then I have been removing my various SH3 installs I have had. When GWX was released I have deleted every last one of my SH3 installs. There is only ONE SH3 install that I need.:yep:

One on my crew had been hospitalized after a traffic accident, and had to be replaced! :rotfl::rotfl:Not that its anything funny about traffic accidents, the funny part was that the detailed message! Is this made especially for GWX? Cant remember that the "standard" SH3Commander (without the GWX .cfg files) had so specific messaging..

I think it has, since my crew suddenly spotted two Blenheims outside Scapa on 1024x, but they didn't attack though....

That is a stock SH3 engine/computational lag problem that cannot be effectively fixed... and has nothing to do with any mod.

The only way to fix it is to make aircraft spawning probabilities so high... that any use of LOW TC would result in being swarmed by aircraft 24/7.

Please excuse my ignorance as it concerns the Grey Wolves Mod/Expansion...but could some of you give me opinions on this vs. IUB? I've been using IUB for almost a year now and have been pretty complacent with it and have enjoyed the results of my decision to use it for some time obviously.

I've been following the development of GWX in the forums for some time and am very curious. Our group specifically uses IUB as well but we are always looking for improved methods of immersion in the game. Also, anyone have knowledge of other groups that use or will use GWX?

in this, but you can allways install it and try it,
and if you don«t like it for what reazon so uninstall it and Runn the mod you prefer...

But I was quite surprise to see three escorted french convoy in sept. 1941 off the portugese coasts...

there were small convoy with 1 small merchant and one bigger, escorted by a french flower.
There were not Free French ships but Vichy France. :-?
It's strange because the convention of the armistice, signed in june 1940, disarmed the French Navy...
Any idea ?
