Maybe now STEED has got a job, this won't get filled up with endless reports on what he's having for his dinner.
Me, I'm starting work on a painting of a red rooster today.

Despite the fact my boy keeps in regular contact via email, text and phone we are going to give Face Time a try today so his mom can see what his apartment in Venice looks like

NO No! leave the rust!(ie: that old patina) getting beheaded by a rusty kukri is a fearsome concept...implying you've done it before.:O: As for Deliverance....I'll never canoe in South Carolina again! http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2292 (http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2292)

This Kukri has some protection spells on it and any degradation on the knife via rust also means a degradation of the spells.
And Deliverance... the movie is underwhelming.
Online reviews, plot summaries, everywhere I got an idea it's going to be a triller about 4 cityslickers being hunted by a hillbilly klan after killing one of their own. It started good, the omnious reactions of the locals when told they were going to cayak down the river, the tension was built before anyone even started down the river, but in the end I got 3 scenes and a 30minute documentary about rapids.

they were going to cayak down the river, the tension was built before anyone even started down the river, but in the end I got 3 scenes and a 30minute documentary about rapids. This being a naval forum, your pardon sire,:timeout: one simply does not Kayak in a canoe! The production was rougher than the film: During the filming of the canoe scene, author James Dickey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Dickey) showed up inebriated and got into a bitter argument with producer-director John Boorman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boorman), who had rewritten Dickey's script. They had a brief fistfight in which Boorman's nose was broken and four of his teeth shattered. Dickey was thrown off the set, but no charges were filed against him. The two reconciled and became good friends, and Boorman gave Dickey a cameo role as the sheriff at the end of the film. http://www.paddleplanner.com/tools/maps/bwcaqueticomap.aspx (http://www.paddleplanner.com/tools/maps/bwcaqueticomap.aspx) bring enough insect-repellant for three weeks. You'll never think kayak again. I made sure ten-year-olds survived the trips in 1966-69! You'll need the kukri to hack out occasional 5 mile portage trails....:k_confused:https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/b9/8c/4f/b98c4f310f3c2d78cba229936f888419.jpg

Still reeling from the excitement of watching Fubes win the First One To Post competition; it was better than the Olympics. His little blue icon came on at around 7.25 and we all thought "Will he make it this time? He's been so brave and tried so hard to win this".
He got off to a false start, posting at 7.29, but the spawny get just managed to pull it back, chucking another one in at 7.30... those 30 seconds between posts must have seemed like a lifetime to the little fella.
Well done, Fubes... there's a surprise party waiting for you in the Bilge :)

Just as well I put off a visit to the collection office as late as possible. At three o'clock the bedside table lamps arrived via Hermes and at quarter to four the driver (bless his cotton socks) decided to try a second time to deliver my parcel containing the beast (Vulcan) before finishing his round :yeah:

Same thing goes for our banknotes:
I remember when I came to the US in 1982 and passed round a £20 note for some guys to look at. They were amazed how big it was and one of them said "All our bills in the US are the same size, so blind folks can't be sure what they're handing out". I'd never thought of that before... why is a $100 bill the same size as a $1 bill? And do you still have dollar bills? We got rid of our £1 note and replaced it with a coin years ago.

No darkening that I've noticed but at high magnification it is adviseable to use a tripod or lean against something to maintain a steady/non shake view.
I've also noticed the need to make a slight adjustment to the focus at high magnification.

Just had a very good experience with the U.S Postal Service. Friday I stopped at my local guitar store for a new set of bass strings, six-string style, and they didn't have the ones I wanted. That night I ordered a set from Amazon. Since I have Prime they mailed them the next day with the promise that they'd be here Monday. Monday came and they weren't in my mailbox. Last night I checked the USPS website and it said they had been delivered to my mail box. Today I walked down to the local post office to complain. The manager there explained that since my apartment complex has three different sections, and each section is numbered 1-32, it was likely that the substitute carrier put it in the right box, but in the wrong section.
I went to the grocery store and then back home. I hadn't been home five minutes when my doorbell rang. It was the Post Office manager. She had driven over here, checked mail boxes and knocked on doors until she found who had my strings, and then hand-delivered them to my door.

Just got back from work a little while ago, man what a madhouse the store was today. Everyone and the grandma is freaking out over hurricane Matthew, so much so that gas stations where out of gas and all the stores where running low or where just plain out of water. We ended up getting some nine pallets of water at around eight or so and everyone had to stop what they where doing and help bring it out to the sales floor. Overall today was just crazy.

Hmm a bit sad, had to bury our latest cat yesterday. We saved her as an "emergency case", being obviously abandoned blind and deaf (some people!) some months ago, but after visiting the veterinary and a bit of care she developed well here. Then some days ago she suddenly began to snuffle badly, and to circle right all the time, and obviously suffered great pain. Found out it was a tumor in the head, probably also responsible for being deaf and blind, no chance to save her. At least she had it well in her last months. Yes i know it's only a cat.
We always had to accompany her when she went outside, but she learned to find her way everytime. That little tiger could really roar..

Yes i know it's only a cat.
No, it's a member of the family, and losing her is like losing a family member. It hurts, it hurts deep and you will mourn, it's only natural when you care for something that much, that when that something leaves you, you will miss its presence deeply.
My last cat passed away in March and I'm still deeply missing her, you have my sympathies Catfish, and I'll raise a glass to your little tiger, what was her name?
Catfish
10-08-16, 09:52 AM
Regarding pets it has been a bad year, first in march our 12-year-long companion "Igor" died (~17 years), then we had a "Toby" for four weeks dying of inflammation of the pancreas (antibiotics did not help) and now "Tanja". The vet gave her cortisone, but it did not help for long. The two later ones were "emergencies" and we only "had" them for a short time, but it hurts.
Thanks.

Half term holiday for our son next week, so we'll have to forego our usual mornings entertainment: we all wait in the car for the school bus in the same spot each weekday, and every day a young mother passes by with pushchair, small girl and brown dog on lead.
Well sometimes the dog stops to take a dump in a nearby garden, on their lawn. She has to then bag it and carry it off. Other times he doesn't want to go (maybe he went before they came out) but if he does then it's always on the same lawn.
It's sad, I know, but when they appear we settle down to watch... our son quickly wipes the fog off his window in the back and presses his face to the glass... waiting. Will he or won't he?

Trapped nerve or sciatica or both according to the the GP I had to call out two weeks ago. I can now sort of walk around but sitting is short term only. Finally after six or more weeks got a date for some physiotherapy in two weeks time.
Got a TENS machine but not much use with this due to it makes it worst so not much point using it for this latest set back.

I have an X52 with a twist rudder and that handles the Sharkie just fine, the most important thing to learn is the trim system, get that right and the Ka50 is really nice to fly, it's nice to be able to hover and analyse a situation from a constant distance, with the A10C you need to autopilot a lazy circle to do that and then fight with the camera on the TGP which keeps getting blocked by the fuselage or a Maverick...so by the time you've located that SA-8 launcher you've already accidentally blundered into his engagement circle and turned into a Wild Weasel.

A large ship thoroughfare chokepoint with Stockton Port, refinery oil tanker, jet ferries, and massive car carriers etc. MY first mate-head's on a constant 360° watch at all times in that area.:Kaleun_Binocular:
Well the 'shark' has two counterrotating rotors and thus needs no rear one, so maybe you do not need a collective grip? But you'd need one for the Huey, or other 'conventional' helicopters? :hmmm:
Sadly I don't have the Huey, but I know Schroeder and Dowly do and I don't think either of them have that fancy a control setup, and both of them can throw the Huey around quite well. Schroeder (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2205034&postcount=543) was acting as our SAR helicopter and Bubba transport back the last time we played DCS. The Huey is a lot harder to fly than the Ka50 though so I've been told because it lacks a lot of the auto-trim and gizmos that the Sharkie has.

@von Due: i always wanted to learn to fly a virtual helicopter, but failed miserably already with the FS9 and 10 ones.
I have a joystick with Twistgrip (old MS ffb) which is sufficient for Rise of Flight and WOFF, however i take it you need some kind of collective for a helicopter to properly 'fly' it ? Would be interesting to hear from your experience with the shark.. :yeah:
I've gathered quite a few helicopters for flying around in FS9 and 10, and I have a plain old 'Thrustmaster' joystick. The trick is to always keep the nose down; that way you avoid slipping backwards then skidding and spinning out of control :)

Went out for a walk and some shopping and got two plastic £5 notes back as change. Looks like and feels like toy money to me, I don't like them.
I've a block of ten AA01 serial numbers I obtained from a friend in the 'trade'
I'm going to keep them for the grandbairn I'm expecting to come along in eighteen months or so :sunny:

Vortex rings are always fun! :dead: Especially with the Ka-50 and other twin rotor helos because then one set of rotors tries to be in the same place as the other set and then gravity starts to happen in a big way.

Well the 'shark' has two counterrotating rotors and thus needs no rear one, so maybe you do not need a collective grip? But you'd need one for the Huey, or other 'conventional' helicopters? :hmmm:
I am fortunate enough to have both a nice stick with separate throttle for collective, and pedals (you might be meaning pedals or twist grip for the job, not collective) and to me the pedals make a world of difference. I have been flying sim aircrafts since the mid 80's but since around the early 00's the helis have become so high fidelity and with so advanced flight models I don't understand how anyone can fly them with keyboard (as some apparently do). Helis are tricky (only 'real' experience here is rc helis but I also take the words of the local Huey pilots here at face value, flying that old lady was like balancing an egg on the tip of a needle that you balanced on top of a broom stick while riding on a unicycle). Anyway, for the DCS helis, and prop planes, I really wouldn't want to be without a proper stick and pedals. Heck, tried that free Mustang that comes with the World, and daaayum that one is a wild one. 1 in 10 landings that doesn't end in me shouting obsceneties at the monitor :D. Falcon 4.0 was a breeze in comparison and FSX's Cessna is like no landing at all, just sleep till it's down and parked.
EDIT: Also, that pic Oberon linked up there above always crack me up. I guess I really was meant to be a heli pilot but I was too daft to notice hah!
I've heard that rudder pedals do make a world of difference, I guess it's a bit like going to TrackIR, once you've tried it you can't really go back. I've managed alright with the HOTAS twist rudder but I don't doubt for a second that a proper set of rudder pedals would be the icing on the cake.
HunterICX...I think he doesn't have a HOTAS setup, pretty sure he has something like a Cyborg Evo which has the throttle on the side of the stick and he can manage the Ka50 alright so I wouldn't say that a traditional twist stick and throttle combined joystick would be a barrier to entry, but certainly the more you specialise in equipment the better the experience will be, depending on your own tastes.
And yes, that Mustang can be a handful, especially on take-off. I find the Ka50 to be fairly docile so long as you respect it and don't throw the stick all over the place like a madman, get it trimmed nicely, use autohover when needed and take your time. The Hog...the biggest problem I have with the Hog is Windows for Warthog, trying to get all the elements to line up together in order to lob a Maverick at a target can be a bit of a pain, but once you've learned it (again) it becomes a bit easier. The Froggie is a lot of fun, but since it's an old model it's also a bit 'push key to continue', but she's a rugged bird and will get the job done. I know the other lands have the MiG-21, and they say that it's a tough crate to master but a lot of fun to try, Schroeder has a similar opinion on the Huey due to its more hands on approach.
I'd love to see a Mk I Spitfire for DCS, I wouldn't be able to do that much with it, but the A2A Accusim Spitfire for FSX is a lot of fun to fly, to the point that I was able to go into IL2 Cliffs of Dover and start-up and take off their Spitfires without any instructions because I knew the A2A Mk Is start-up procedure...and I also knew about the bloody coolant, because I tell you...that Spitfire does not like it when it comes to land and go back to bed, no it wants to stay up and play all night, you throttle back, flaps down, gear down and start coming in to land and the Merlin decides to throw all the toys out of the pram and spring a coolant leak. Every. Damn. Time.
All good fun though.

I absolutely agree that pedals are more icing on the cake, as you put it, than a general necessity and a twist grip, or like the rudder seesaw switch on the x45, will get the job done, even keyboard works for some. So bare minimum? Well, technically a keyboard and mouse but to get the most out of something you paid good money for, I say a stick, programmable or not, for cyclic. That's it really but you will find things a lot easier if you have a collective controller at least. With the Shark's auto pilot hold modes, you can, I would think, get a long way using the keyboard for anti torque pedals, a twist grip makes it a LOT easier and pedals would be the icing. Me however, seems to be the uncrowned king of cross-coupling inputs and I just found that the only way I could avoid unwanted inputs was to invest in those pedals.
Well my Back problem has been nailed down to a damaged sarcastic nerve which is still giving me a bad time five or six weeks on. Went for my first physiotherapy treatment today and got to go back next week, in the mean time was given some exercises to do.

Unable to sleep. My great-aunt, aged 96, had stroke in early October but she survived that with speech impairment. Unfortunately as parting gift from hospital she got infection into leg which led to necrosis. She survived amputation surgery and was recovering relatively well.
Now she has got necrosis in remaining leg and is not strong enough for another amputaation surgery. Even though she is of advanced age it is still hard to accept that she is now in hospice care and nothing else can be done. :wah:

What the hell are you talking about Mr Squirrel, I thought I was the most helpful person on the forum.
Who else on here gave you a recipe to soothe your sore little problem eh, none other than me Mr Squirrel, and I got that from that wonderful hottie of hotties Mary Poppins.
The least you could have done is watch the video and perv over her like I do, but oh no, all you do is tell me to, and I quote
Its no bloody wonder that you're still a bit sore old boy, and if I decided to pay you a visit you ungrateful bleedin squirrel you'd have some sore nuts to go with it as well.:yep:
JEEZE! Moonlight is forgetting the post that got him swiftly nominated (by me:yeah:) into the Bilge :salute:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2337362#post2337362 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2337362#post2337362) Get past this and Dyno-Rod is the least of your problems!

I got shafted last week too: our car got totalled on Friday (my wife was driving and she's fine) so I was crawling around under a used Vauxhall Astra this morning.
As if I ain't got enough on my plate already: viewing our son's new school this afternoon, bum doctor tomorrow and 'The Man From The Pru' coming on Wednesday. So no time for Whac-A-Squirrel this week, unfortunately...

That's a pretty " full plate " . It's good to hear your wife is doing well after the accident and was unharmed.
Best wishes on getting everything resolved.

The Frau is leaving me. She has her mind made up this time.
But she will come back, she always does.
:D
She knows that she goes to visit Germany for my vacation. Just me and the dogs... oh and the stupid cat. For some reason she won't take the cat with her.
Me and the mutts. Watching stupid old movies and eatin bad stuff. It really does not get better than that.

My wife's had a lot of trouble with earwax in one ear. She bought this electrical gadget that's supposed to suck it out (two AA batteries). Last night I told her not to push it in too far or she might suck her brains out, and when she eventually declared it wasn't working I said "Well that was a waste of money, wasn't it?"
"What??" she said
