My wife's had a lot of trouble with earwax in one ear. She bought this electrical gadget that's supposed to suck it out (two AA batteries). Last night I told her not to push it in too far or she might suck her brains out, and when she eventually declared it wasn't working I said "Well that was a waste of money, wasn't it?"
"What??" she said
Tell her to try something with a bit more oomph, like Henry or Dyson. That should get the lumps out!

If I were you I'd be adding another 'experienced' driver to the policy. My kids have added me since they both passed their tests and I estimate they save 50% off the original quotes each time.

Had to call my credit union today as there were some fraud charges totaling up to some $573. Sometimes I wish there was an international law that dealt with hacking and ID theft where the punishment was either life imprisonment without chance of parole or death.

Suicide starts at 10 :o That's pretty young. :nope:
But then in the US, we kill ourselves more than we kill others.
Homicide in 2014 is at an all time low of 4.5 per 100,000 but suicide is still high at 12 per 100,000. And those are only for successful. Attempted numbers get a bit more complicated.
About 117 people are successful in suicide every day and about 44 people die of homicide every day.
So, yes, it can be said the the US is a violent society, but we are violent more to ourselves than to others.

Rotten Tuesday morning with this and that, just made my appointment to see my GP which ended on being told I may have a burst sciatica so a need a X-Ray and a possible steroid injection. Got stuffed with a £28 subscription for strong pain killers and anti inflammatory pills and the bus home was a nightmare.

Yes that's them... Andy (drummer) is on the left in both pictures. Been uploading some photos he's never seen this afternoon, so he can post them on his blog. He well remembers the night we narrowly escaped a lynching by an angry crowd in Cranbrook.
Just noticed a typo: Phil's name was "Alamo"... a cool name to have, I always thought. But I was very sad indeed to learn yesterday that he's no longer around; he was a lovely, gentle chap, and the last time I think I spoke to him at any length was when he came bowling up in his soccer kit as my wife-to-be and I passed a match being played at the Sports Ground in Tonbridge, just before I left the town for good. He bought me an ancient copy of "Flight" magazine once (I still have it) and was also the only one ever to return a borrowed LP to me.
Here's a photo I took at one of their first gigs (at "The Rose & Crown" Tonbridge) and before Phil joined:

Same here, but in a good way. Last winter was relatively mild, but this month we've had several nice snowfalls. There's about six inches (150 cm) on the ground right now, and skies are overcast looking for more. I'm not complaining. I grew up in southern California, and the snow is one of reasons I've stayed here my whole life.

Discovering how to use "Facebook"
Trying to do the same since a few days (not only of course).
Please tell me if you find out how this mess works without F...book selling all i write or like/dislike, or what i bought, or not bought, to companies, and the NSA. Then I get "tailored" advertisements of what whoever thinks i'd like to buy or need. Screw you F'book and Google!
Also i do not really want all FB-friends to read what another FB-friend writes, but it is virtually impossible to turn that off, because as soon someone "likes" the article or text, the others are able to read it and the whole thread even if the original person was blocked out.
And there is not even a real (!) dislike button, ridiculous!
This is an asocial network. Back then an idiot on a soapbox in the park could just be passed by and did not have a real audience. Now every weirdo is able to access millions with no problem. And i am not interested in what every dummy ate and have a photo of it.
I remember i had wished to read other people's minds a long time ago, but not after after Facebook happening. You can certainly suppress all the Nazi or AfD or other stuff you do not like, but then it only echoes your own opinion.

I started using it shamelessly to boost my online profile for business; true, you have to consider what you do and don't want people to know, but the privacy settings are there for this, as well as your own discretion. I've set my profile so that anyone, friends or otherwise, can see my pictures, but these are all photos of my paintings and my neighbourhood, so nothing sensitive on there.
But it's amazing how many old friends have been in touch, and I'm now busy exposing all their secrets from their youth which they've largely forgotten but which I remember with razor sharp precision.

Third book in his four part series, started months ago then put it down for some time. Picking up where I left off.
Fireworks have been going off around here and its not midnight yet!

Really camping out now: kitchen remod has us camped out! Now the inducer motor on my Bryant house-furnace has utterly died: motor bearing shrieking and too hot to touch!.. the 3'' plastic cooling fan (spinning black wheel-rim in video) melted and flew off right in front of me! No part is immediately available and the local furnace man not able until Monday! Damn motor was replaced three years ago on the furnace which was itself replaced 20 years ago.... built in obsolescence right on schedule!:k_confused:I'm opting for a new furnace in lieu of motor re-repair! I note the video guy is replacing his motor after only a year- hey! mine lasted three! The ironic upside is, this AM I had routinely called for a half-cord of firewood 2 B delivered tomorrow !!! Said wood-stove replaced original brick fireplace/chimney (to code) destroyed in earthquake epicentered 500 yards NW of the house twelve years ago!:wah: Now that I've no other heat source, I can burn even on "Spare the Air" days!:yeah: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8wjXgWQAfo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8wjXgWQAfo)

Their low life riff raff jim, last time I went round and told them to give it a rest I got a visit from the police receiving a complaint I threaten to kill them. If telling some one to stop slamming doors and screaming at each other is a death threat then there is no hope.
Just to add that happen a few years ago, as I understand it now the police do not come out for that sort of thing any more now handled by the council and my council is useless.

Your going at it wrong: I assume your a renter and the offenders may be also? One term of a rent implied or otherwise is:' U have the right to the 'peaceful use of the premises'. These people have denied U this. If you have the same land lord Withhold the rent till he solves the problem. Make sure the landlord knows the money's available upon his timely action. If not SUE 'EM! That's hardly a 'threat to kill them' all nice and legal too! I'm sure English procedures must B similar Can I sue a noisy neighbor?
If your neighbor keeps disturbing you, you can sue, and ask the court for money damages or to order the neighbor to stop the noise ("abate the nuisance," in legal terms). For money damages alone, you can use small claims court. For a court order telling somebody to stop doing something, you'll probably have to sue in regular court.
Of course, what you really want is for the nuisance to stop. But getting a small claims court to order your neighbor to pay you money can be amazingly effective. And suing in small claims court is easy, inexpensive, and doesn't require a lawyer.
To win, you'll need to show:
There is excessive and disturbing noise.
The person you are suing is either creating the noise or is the landlord and therefore responsible.
Your enjoyment of your home is affected.
You have asked the person to stop the noise.
To prove your case, use police reports, witnesses, your own testimony, or even a recording.
How much money should you sue for? In most states, small claims courts limit judgments to between £ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_sign)2,500 and £ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_sign)7,500. (For the amount in your state, see How Much Can I Sue for in Small Claims Court? (http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/small-claims-suits-how-much-30031.html)) Requesting £ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_sign)20 a day for your trouble would probably be considered reasonable. If the noise problem is really severe -- keeping you from sleeping or working and making you completely frazzled -- make it £ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_sign)100 a day.
Quite naturally With your back being the more aggravated etc:D I'd throw in 'pain and suffering' as well. When U win possibly by default for not contesting, B sure to garnish their waqes from their employer, They'll really hate that! Bottom line; you're yankin' their chain they're not yankin' yours!:arrgh!: Word of caution : never approach a domestic squabble while ongoing; I've done so in uniform and they can be extremely dangerous-fingernails and kitchen implements at close-quarters. ..and they'll both turn on you:oops:

The other element of this which the offenders wouldn't wish to invite is that it would leave them with a besmirched record, which might go against them in all kinds of ways in the future.

I know what you mean and I appreciate the dilemma you potentially face but if I had reached the end of my tether I would be seeking the assistance of those 'local chaps' who had the ability to convince them that going to the police was the far more dangerous course of action.
If they are the 'riff raff' you say they are, they will fully understand the possible implications of non-compliance. Of course, all that depends on whom you choose to pass the message on :03:

Anyone near Friday Harbor, Washington? What's up with your winter weather, guys?
Big storm taking aim at Napa County
Napa County is amid the calm before a big weekend storm, raising questions of whether the area will experience flooding and enough runoff to trigger the Napa flood control bypass for the first time. The quarter-mile-long bypass completed in summer 2015 (Army Corps of Engineeers $18 million$) has yet to do more than serve as a park.
“We have seen and heard reports of anything from an event like the one we had a day or two ago to the storm of the century or something akin to that,” said Richard Thomasser, who keeps an eye on the bypass for the Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District.
He and other flood control officials keep a watch on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration postings of Napa River levels at Oak Knoll Avenue between Yountville and Napa. When the level there hits 22 feet, they think the bypass about five miles downriver will carry storm waters..levels expected at 1/2 in. every hour for twelve hours. Get out the shovels! Landslides and road closures expected. A highly amplified upper-air pattern in the Pacific Ocean, featuring blocking high pressure near the Bering Sea and Alaska, and a downstream plunge of the jet stream off the Pacific Northwest coast, will likely park an AR over the state for what could be two to three days starting Saturday.
When these ARs stall over land and are lifted by mountain terrain, significant flooding often results. About 80 percent of California's major flood events can be traced to ARs (http://climate.nasa.gov/news/2409/), according to NASA.
The bottom line is: the threat for more widespread river, urban flooding and landslides will rise substantially this weekend, particularly over northern and central California. https://dsx.weather.com//util/image/w/calif-wet-pattern-jan2017.jpg?v=ap&w=980&h=551&api=7db9fe61-7414-47b5-9871-e17d87b8b6a0<This is aimed at me??! Twelve pounds. A bit on the heavy side, but you get used to it.
That's a nice instrument Steve ... why do guitar's have a hole in the middle and bass guitar's don't?
Acoustic guitars have a hole because they are designed to be used without electricity. The guitar is hollow, which amplifies the sound naturally, and the hole projects the sound outward. Electric guitars also don't have holes, and you can't hear them unless they're plugged in. There are also acoustic basses, and these days acoustic guitars may also come with electronics. Even when plugged in the sound is different from that of a regular electric.
So your neighbors mind you playing that thing?

Two words mate, "Dynamic Campaign", yes I know you've heard that phrase before. In Falcons case it truly is dynamic, and BMS is built around the original. BMS takes the original to new heights, realistic flight dynamics, weaponry etc. Plus a ton of aircraft now available to fly. The best thing of all ? It's free !
Take a look on youtube some time.
Best regards.

Just got back home from my folks house in Napa. What a mess! No structural damage but the furniture moved 1-3 feet and toppled just about anything that wasn’t low. Books, knick-knacks, pictures, mirrors, etc. all busted and all over the floor. A couple of water pipes broke and I had to bypass the water softener to get water pressure again. Still no hot water as the pipe broke that feeds water to it and I couldn't fix that one. The pool lost about a good foot of water and the cover tore loose. Power was restored about 3PM and PGE will come out sometime tomorrow to check the gas lines.

The new band played out for the first time last night. A local club hosts an Open Mic Night for whole bands. You show up with your instruments, use their amps and drums, play three songs and you're done. Adjusting the sound was a pain, and doing all that on the fly is not easy. That said, it went fairly well.
I also ran into a couple of musical acquaintances there and got caught up on some old business, so it was a worthwhile experience.
Popped down to the fish shop for some fish only and asked for a large cod no chips which was met by a strange look as to say...WHAT NO CHIPS ARE YOU MAD?
Point one I am on a diet.
Point two I have gone off chips, all that starch in my stomach no thank you.
Point three my fish shop has no small portion.
Point four regular portion is king size which is enough for four to five people.
Point five I hear point four from my mates about other fish shops.
Anyway after the strange look I was asked twice are you sure you want no chips to which I said no chips and finally I got my cod. :arrgh!:

I don't know what the 7 string bass weighs but i have a pair of Les paul's that tip the scales at 14 pounds a piece. 14 pounds may not sound like a lot but you feel it after having a strap over your shoulder connected to either of them and play for 2 hours or more.
I had a Luthier put together a solid ash bodied custom Stratocaster copy with a floyd rose Trem / bridge. It weighs in at 4 pounds. :D It uses a Jackson neck with medium jumbo frets with an Ebony fingerboard and the scale is a 25.5 instead of the regular Stratocastor 22.5 .

Fourteen pounds?! :o
I can't imagine that. The seven-string Wolf bass weighs just over 12 pounds. My Peavey sixes weigh around 10 pounds each, and they're considered heavy.

That's more like it. I'm not sure what my Giannini 12-stirng weighs, but it's not much. It's funny comparing guitars and basses. Most 5-and-6-stings have a 35" scale to get maximum effect out of the low B-string, but even a "short scale" bass is 30". One of the things I like about the Peaveys is that not only to they have 24 frets but I can easily reach the top fret without being a contortionist.

I hear you. I used to have a Les Paul and it was a hernia maker if I ever saw one. Never weighted it but it was not a favourite of mine to play for the weight alone. Much happier with the Strat I got later. Only issue is, that one couldn't cope well with 0.13 gauge normal tuning. Broke the nut it did. Was a bit amusing though to buy 2 more springs for the bridge just to hold it down and not pop up to right angle :D

I didn't weight it but the specialty shop did when they fitted it with a different neck. There was nothing wrong with the old one but i didn't want to ruin the value of the guitar and neck as I wanted to make some modifications, to the frets for one. I wanted meaty Jumbo frets in it which facilitates easier string bending if you are doing bluesey songs. I don't envy you with the weight penalty of your wolf bass guitar. Our guys always take their older 4 string Fender p and jazz bases and they still sound great, especially through a Fender Bassman amp although they sound great through most anything.

Fender makes what's known as an LSR roller nut. It's made of metal and is essentially a cage with which the string goes through. It has ball bearings and the strings go through them individually. It's usually used in conjunction with Fender / Schaller locking tuners. They are about $ 30.00 dollars so they are reasonable. Check them out if you get a chance.

As far as the bridge, I retrofitted a number of Floyd Rose Tremolos to my playing guitars that really were of marginal value. I used to break strings a lot during string bending with standard Stratocastor bridges / trems but haven't that I can remember since using the Floyd Rose. It's incredibly responsive as well. Prices vary from $ 83.00 to almost $ 200.00. The floyd rose is used in conjunction with a claw type locking nut and you tune guitars so equipped at the bridge, the opposite of Fender and Gibson setups.

I never liked solid state or hybrid amps. I always preferred the older tube amps and had my techie guys do surgery on them to modify them a bit. Lots of heavy metal guys would hunt for tube amps and then use all sorts of distortion units with them. I never understood that. For a while, it was difficult to find replacement tubes. Today, they are much easier to find although in some cases, the quality has suffered. Joe Satriani and Stevie Vai cranked it up like you said at a concert and I couldn't hear for a week. It was a great show what I remember hearing of it though. :)
Keep in mind the LSR roller nut. I'm sure you will like it. It may help bring your old rig back to life. I have used the LSR roller nut instead of the claw type locking nut and Locking Schaller tuners with the Floyd Rose trem. The claw type nut has drilled holes going throughthe head stock which weakens and compromises the structural integrity of the neck and headstock and on occasion, i have had headstocks crack.
* The LSR roller nut is not to be confused with the nuts Eichhörnchen is talking about * :haha:

If I ever get back to playing, which I doubt, I'll keep the LRS in mind for that. As for distortion or other effects, I never liked the heavy metal kind of distortion. Neil Young on the other hand, he has the right idea and it is that sound I have attempted to achieve without ever succeeding. This combo is disturbingly close though. Only time it was more surreal was the time I managed to mix pre-gig drinking with soldering and got the polarity wrong resulting in the most astonishing recorder (flute) sound! The fact that a non-grounded guitar is not particularily healthy is another matter entirely but the SOUND...! Apart from the turbo rat, I don't think I ever had greater distortion than the one I got from a Radionette cassette/radio ghettoblaster between the guitar and the amp. I kid you not (really) but I had to sit on the amp while playing or the bastard would trundle across the floor from the vibrations!
EDIT: As for the topic: Having a taste of my bro's home brew, a belgian double. Decent! Then there is the DIY label on the bottle. The clever but not so wise sod asked his 5 y.o. girl what to call the brew and it is a given: For a 5 y.o. the most amusing thing in the world is poo, fart etc so the beer will forever be known as "double poo". So, belgian double waste and looking forward to a frustrating weekend with the game TIE Fighter.

I Our guys always take their older 4 string Fender p and jazz bases and they still sound great, especially through a Fender Bassman amp although they sound great through most anything.
Nothing sounds like a Fender Jazz Bass. Unfortunately I've gotten used to having six strings. I could get by of five, the Jazz 5 costs a small fortune. The Peaveys sound good...just not the same.

I was just sat waiting at a roundabout in the car when I suddenly heard the sound of breaking glass to the nearside. I looked in the wing mirror... no mirror in it... it seemed to have just fallen out. So there I was for the next 20-25 minutes picking up bits of glass, bleeding onto the road. Has this ever happened to anyone else? The mirror was just glued onto a backplate (they are the electrically adjustable type).

I know a number of musicians and I come across people now and then who try out equipment like guitars, lead and bass, drums, etc... and now and again, they sell them off, most usually, un-played. I'll keep you in mind if I hear of anything close to what you are looking for and you can contact them directly.

No, but I had a girlfriend once build a snowman on the hood of my car because I kept her waiting. The weight distorted the hood a bit and I replaced it.
As far as your situation, the glue holding the mirror in place was probably affected by the cold or maybe just broke cause you were looking into it too much. :haha:
Seriously, I hope you weren't hurt or cut too bad.

Just installed SH3, downloaded NYGM, dug out my GWX download from a couple of years ago, LSH and WAC to go. Then 5, and mods (previous excursions were unmodded so it's all new in 5).
Also just started watching the Westworld series. Loved the original film, this is looking sleek and the potential is good. Drinking Cobra. Skål :Kaleun_Cheers:

Popped down to the fish shop for some fish only and asked for a large cod no chips which was met by a strange look as to say...WHAT NO CHIPS ARE YOU MAD?
Point one I am on a diet.
Point two I have gone off chips, all that starch in my stomach no thank you.
Point three my fish shop has no small portion.
Point four regular portion is king size which is enough for four to five people.
Point five I hear point four from my mates about other fish shops.
Anyway after the strange look I was asked twice are you sure you want no chips to which I said no chips and finally I got my cod. :arrgh!:
Being from a fishing town you'd get that look by asking for cod. Haddock is the fish of choice around here, and my village does the best fish and chips I've ever had (and at a bargain price, too). If you ever get this far I'll treat you.

Rain on Wednesday meant sailing today. Great winds but heavy overcast and cold put a damper on an outing plus my own ignorance: In pretrip-tinkering with a stodgy recently overhauled Nissan outboard that sat too long during the recent rains, We cleaned the dual spark plugs and lubricated the control cables. In checking the short plug wire caps on the plugs while the engine was turning; I held the engine casing with my left, wearing sailing gloves, and pushed down on the rubber spark cap with my right finger....thinking the thing safely insulated: upper plug ok.... lower plug.....::oops: I completed a serious 800+ voltage-circuit through both arms, my back and....strangely felt good the rest of the afternoon...having effectively defibrillated myself:timeout: Fortunately my writing hand is still operational; the contractor to arrive at 'high noon' later today to resolve final upgrade/alteration costs on the kitchen remodel and the final check#12 (signed:O:) is due.

^ the ignition coil tension is really something different to the "normal" 12/24 V circuits, the extreme high tension coils in modern cars can even kill you :timeout:
Also funny with one Triumph Spitf. 1500 back then, as an improvement Triumph had located the Overdrive switch from a lever at the steering wheel, to the head of the gear lever. Starting the engine on a misty morning would instantly wake you up when engaging O/D in damp conditions .. :yep:
(full engaging tension for the solenoid going through the knob, no relais back then..)

Hopin' for a speedy recovery  I Had a near disaster myself. I got summoned forth to San Francisco at 9PM-50 miles- with rain to-beat-the-band and 30+mph cross-winds to match across three major toll-bridges and Corolla's front-drive wheels slipping, even in low torque. For the toll-free return direction, I first called my boat captain who monitors road and weather to inquire about returning the toll free direction across the Golden Gate Bridge, and avoiding the windy Bay Bridge I'd arrived on. The route has been closed for flooding this month for several days. I finally get to a one-lane route at Sonoma around midnight approx 15 mile from my home and am following the vehicle in front, when the road disappears...70 yards of six-inch very brown deep water from a nearby creek and I'm in it! Real sudden-like (Flash really means Flash BBY!) with utterly no chance to turn around; and I can't see the deep ditches on both sides anyhow. (note: flood water/sewage does not smell good at all)With no options: I managed to punch through, creeping in second gear w/o stopping(fatal) and got back onto the dry road. I called the road condition into to 911 and made it home by 00:45. It's till pouring rain as I post and 31 road closures R in effect in Sonoma County today. It's gonna rain all week...there goes my golf game!:wah: A break for sailing on Saturday is predicted.
