meantime nothin to do and Im freezing my backsides off.I can relate: I went sailing Friday as usual and 30 mph winds, overcast skies, adverse tides, temps in the low 50's, with 4' swells put 'paid' to the effort. My captain opted for an early return to port. The westerly winds with whitecaps were such that we had to crab aircraft style to negotiate the extremely narrow marina entrance on a 9 hp Nissan outboard! For on old Minnesota boy from the 'frigid wasteland', even I had goosebumps all afternoon.

I'm Enoy'd alright! :D After five years as a Federal SSA Appeals bailiff(incl. finding a used choir-robe sales for them to wear on the bench:yep:); and 9th Circuit Justice's en banc security on execution occasions till 0200AM-then round up 'their Grace's' taxi rides home!!!....  :Kaleun_Sleep:  :nope: plus sitting in jury chair all day long hurts my extrucker's back! And I'm hardly judicially impartial toward creeps, neer-do-wells and white-trash generally!:O: My wife's D.A. career used to get me out of serving, but she's retired now.

First, allow me to correct your mistake. Preppers had all the supplies they needed ready and on hand in January. The shortage of TP is not caused by preppers, it is caused by non-preppers, who always laugh at preppers, wait until the last minute to get the stuff they need for a quarantine, then PANIC, then they blame the preppers. See how that works? Us preppers sleep just fine.
Success! After a day of hard sailing terminated by big waves, high winds and near misses, I managed to go shopping at the local Lucky's supermarket at 11:30PM tonight and got the only three packs of toilette paper on the shelf!! Cosco was empty and so was the Lucky's earlier in the evening, when my wife had gone to shop, getting a tip from her favorite clerk "that the truck would be in this evening"...so rather than awaiting a morning Saturday consumer rush...OF NON-PREPPERS, I opted for the late night sortie....TAA DAA.... NOT: my wife- "But Honey! That's single ply!!":wah::dead:

I got put on notice today and told to pack my stuff. Looks like they are going to activate our BCP plan due to the Corona virus. if so, I'll be living in a locked data center for three weeks with three other team members. Nobody comes in, and nobody leaves. Starting to get that horror movie vibe about all this.

^ Some people have all the luck.
My place of work has now implemented guidelines, my hours are now cut to two hours as on my watch all the stuff in the evening has now all been cancelled. I feel sorry for some of the staff in other areas on zero hour contracts. And I have noticed face masks being worn.
Oh well on the upside classic TV like classic Dr Who Tom Baker for me. :)

What I'm doing it trying to install my sub sims on my new PC and finding I've misplaced discs somewhere and it all sucks! I can't find my SH4 1.5 update although I do have the key if I ever find it! Grrr...
Moved on to Asetto Corsa and that's all good save for control tweaks etc. Saved myself some time and just copied the contents folder from the old PC over so all the add-on tracks are good. :D
Back to work at my California hospitals tomorrow. Can't wait to see what new developments there are because today the OR's were shut down save for emergencies. One hospital has replaced several windows in the ICU to vent large hepa filter through as improvised negative pressure rooms. Not bad thinking but I'll stay away from that area anyway.

Another week of Teleworking in a job where I can't telework. :(
That means 8 hours of taking online training classes and that got real old last week.
At least I am still getting paid which is more than what is happening to too many other people around the country.
Boss rang not needed tonight as the one thing that was on now cancelled and a press release tomorrow will state we are closed. Off up the town for the last time later, be interesting what it is like up there. :hmmm:

When you're fortunate enough to know a few well place people in each establishment, tip offs regarding what stock has arrived and what delivery slots are being opened up is always beneficial.
Well I am back home and wow just so strange, well in the morning I rang my GP's to ask them about my subscription and they took my name and D.O.B and told to come up and knock on the door! Greeted by aprons and face masks and asked my reason being there any how got the paper work then had to stand in line outside the pharmacy only one person allowed in at a time and after 15 odd minutes got subscription.
The town looked like early Sunday morning half the shops open my local Tesco Metro had re-stocked there fresh goods and about half the shop but no toilet rolls go figure. They along with Boot's had community police officer in them. Another shop put black tape down on the floor to space out the checkout area. Oh the police were patrolling around in there cars and vans big time.
Most people kept their distance apart from teenagers and 20's age group, they looked like they did not give a toss. And now the weird stuff, smokers are back on cigarettes big time yes big time! And now the weird freaky thing car drivers were spacing themselves out, I noticed if they got bit close one car would stop and back off! :o

At the local ASDA and Tesco stores here they have learned a lesson. They close to the public at 10pm and a night shift load the vans for delivery before the store opens again at 6am.
The night shift were surprised the other day when they went to unpack the pallets of foodstuffs onto the shelves. Said pallets were put out on the ends of the aisles in preparation and when night shift went to them, most had been emptied by the public prior to the stores closure.
That won't happen anymore :)

Heard a whisper from a friend informing me ASDA had just restocked their shelves so off I popped, the wife declining to accompany me.
Still no eggs or TP on the shelves but plenty of rum, beer, wine, kitchen rolls, packed meats and various tinned items.
Spent £180 and upon returning the wife is helping me unload the car on the drive, grinning like a cheshire cat. I ask her what she finds so funny/amusing and she replies " It's rather quaint to see you paying for the shopping instead of me all the time"
Looks like I needn't bother asking her to contribute then :/\\!!

Three 1ltr bottles dark rum
Three 1ltr bottles peppermint cordial
Pack of six kitchen rolls (store limits everything to three apart from kitchen roll and TP)
Three packets of fruit pastilles
Three large bags of Mccain oven chips
Three packets of Kleenex large size tissues
Three bottles Wolf Blass chardonnay
Three packets of wafer thin ham
Three cases Carlsberg
Three cases of Strongbow
Three bags of treats for the hound
Three packs of fish fingers
Three packs of cod fillets
A birthday cake for my daughters birthday on 29th (we will have to tell her a friend went for that because she'd go crazy if she knew I'd been out shopping)
Not sure if I've missed anything but some TP and eggs (we are presently comfortable for both) would have been the cherry on the icing on the cake.

SHOPPING REPORT
I got a report from the folks there was a massive line to get into the big supermarket and spit guards placed on the tills and all marked out on the floor by the tills. Two thirds of the shop empty restriction to two item, sounds a bit of a joke that.
Now my report from a small supermarket had to stand in line but lucky only five of us, one person in one person out system and the whole shop floor was marked out where to stand which of course some ignored thinking they were Superman. :nope:

I phoned my local tyre supplier yesterday to enquire if they were open today and was informed they would be at 8.30am and were allowing one car only into the garage at any time, driver was to stay within the car and have locking wheel nut at hand.
Arrives 8.25 am this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see I was the first arrival (the queuing started about fifteen minutes later).
Everything went to plan apart from the fact the tyre prices had increased by a fiver.
The car is due her first MOT 25th of next month but under recently introduce emergency legislation, any vehicle with a test date post 30th March has a six month extension. The vehicle owner is obviously still required to maintain the vehicle in a roadworthy condition.
A couple of well needed results me thinks.

I was referring to those supermarkets in your area. Up here there are queues but the stocking levels are pretty good because of the limits put on how many of each item may be purchased.

STEED's shopping trip news....
Good/Bad news...
OK the bad news, I went early the standing in line in the car park was spaced out but inside the store some 20 to 30 people some just ignored or failed to keep their distance. I hate to think what it will be like later in the day, told the guard on the door and advised the shop needs to stop playing pop music and play the government message about distancing.
Now the good news my local supermarket is now back to two thirds full, shortage of pain killers and toilet rolls but there were some now on the shelf's. Tins and Frozen looking a bit better. Hope this is the case in all of the UK which will help to calm the situation.

Just been to the local supermarkets (Tesco and ASDA).
Ten minute wait at Tesco but well worth it as the shop is practically fully stocked and no waiting at ASDA and stocking levels also practically fully stocked.
Couldn't believe my eyes in ASDA to see the TP aisle probably fully stocked and some makes actually on special offer.
Very few people in as well which was a bonus.

Where do you get the yeast? Is it in those little yeast packs I see for sale?
Sounds messy to make though ... I like Aktungbby"s idea too I've seen that brand in the frozen section, but never purchased it, even thinking of a cheap bread machine. :yep:
Catfish
04-01-20, 11:40 AM
^ @Quatro:
Yes, you can get yeast in those small packs, as dry yeast - here there are usually sold with three paper packages in one plastic pack, in every market.
You can also get fresh yeast (cooled, but not frozen) which comes in cube-like packages mostly in aluminium foil, works both w/o problem.
(edit: you need one package for one bread, dry or fresh)
You can store dry yeast longer, I just used a pack that had an expiry date of 2006, still works. You can store dry yeast almost forever if you keep it dry.
If you once make leaven/sourdough(?) you can store away 100 gramms or so in the fridge for one-two weeks, if you add this to fresh dough you need no other yeast anymore (you can make your own yeast with this).
A bit of oil, salt, sugar, maybe some seeds or crushed nuts for a special taste, but i assure you it already tastes very well just pure. Really spoils you for bought bread :03:

Jim did they keep their distance?
In my post I went early on Tuesday and waiting outside people kept their distance but once in the store oh man it was a pain. Some stood near me or walked near by near me! Some of these joker's clearly had no interest keeping their distance! Only 20 to 30 odd people in the supermarket at that time, I fear to think what it would have been later in the day.

And rightly so but my two visits since the lockdown have given me the impression people are polite to one another especially since the panic buying has stopped, due mainly to rationing.
I must admit I got told off by the wife on my return because despite having about thirty toilet rolls in one of the garages I couldn't resist picking up a twenty four pack when I saw the aisle fully stocked.
The only item I can't source atm is peppermint cordial for my rum so last night I tried it with coke (as was my only option in Mexico) and was pleasantly surprised.
Jim, rationing is almost over apart from a very very few items, I placed the news story in the virus thread. Too sum up all the major Supermarkets are now operating as normal, I raised the point is that wise. After all what happened and this situation is going to last a very long time.

Well, since I am still in school, Monday, Tuesday’s, and Wednesday’s are for school. It’s online learning. I’m mostly playing my Xbox and watching Criminal Minds and playing my computer.
I’m reading a lot of books too. I bought a bunch on WW2 around maybe the 14th of January. Like 5 college level reads, and I’m only an 8th grader!
Playing with my dog is what I also do. Or I take a mile run in our neighborhood. My best time is 6:58. We have a bunch of hills in our neighborhood that i gets really tiring after a while. But my legs just go numb and I don’t feel any pain, I’m just tired.

Great Camera E. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: I have a Canon S2 IS. It is a 5.0 Mega pixel camera and features image stabilization and 12x zoom. Although it has a relatively low mega pixel rate, the sensor suite is great. I also have a Olympus E 300 Evolt in 8.0 Mega Pixel trim with 14-45 mm and 40-150mm lenses.

The Canon is great if you want to take great pictures in an uncomplicated way or format and on the run. The Olympus is great if you want to interchange lenses with zoom. It uses manual zoom but auto focus. It features a built in flash but docking for an external flash as well. The sensor suite on the Olympus is excellent as well. Both camera's can be purchased fairly inexpensively now relative to their cost when new. The Olympus can also use higher end Sigma lenses. Both camera's capture enough detail to take portraits as well to blow up. After seeing the images Moira's camera took, I will look into one but mine still do a great job.

Remember that optical zoom is better than digital zoom
https://www.bing.com/search?q=optical+vs+digital+zoom&qs=AS&pq=optical+vs+dig&sc=8-14&cvid=4A6C0C68510342C39DB597E53A2030CD&FORM=QBLH&sp=1
What is the difference between optical and digital zoom?
Digital zoom uses the processor to magnify the image after the sensor captures it. 3. Optical zoom preserves the crispness and detail of the image while digital zoom tends to interpolate a lot of the data.
Can digital zoom be better than optical zoom?
In absolute terms, optical zoom will almost certainly be better than digital zoom. In a perfect world, you would use only top-notch optical-zoom lenses — preferably shooting RAW on a professional DSLR or cinema-grade video camera.

My son and I now spend a lot of time waiting by the car while Moira's shopping. We were getting bored in the heat of the car park a couple of hours ago, so I showed him how to make bird shadows with his hands. Then we tried the rabbit with wiggling ears, and he raised his two fingers up into the air just as a car load of yobs pulled in... I don't reckon they thought he was giving a 'V for Victory' sign either
I don't know why I didn't get beaten up at this point... could be either because he is over six feet tall, or they were afraid of catching the coronavirus

FRIDAY NIGHT AFTER DELIVERING GROCERIES TO HER MOM AND ME, MY DAUGHTER WAS RETURNING HOME TO SANTA ROSA 40 MILES AWAY AT AROUND 6 PM. AN ELDERLY GENT(70) DID A U TURN AND, BLINDED BY THE SETTING SUN, PULLED DIRECTLY INTO A WELL TRAVELLED THOROUGHFARE LESS THAN A MILE FROM MY HOME ....DIRECTLY IN FRONT MY DAUGHTER WHO MANAGED TO SWERVE SLIGHTLY TO AVOID A DEAD-ON T-BONE COLLISION. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED FRACTURING HER WRIST BONES AND CAUSING ADDITIONAL LIGHT FRACTURES TO HER ARM. THE BRUISES ACROSS HER CHEST FROM THE SEATBELT WERE SEVERE. SHE MANAGED TO CALL US, SO WE RUSHED TO THE SCENE , DIRECTING TRAFFIC ETC TILL FIRE AND MEDICS ARRIVED. BOTH THE GENT AND MY DAUGHTER RODE THE SAME AMBULANCE: HIS BLOOD PRESSURE WAS VERY HIGH. HE MANFULLY TOOK FULL BLAME FOR THE ACCIDENT. SINCE THIS IS THE THIRD ACCIDENT IN THE 2007 SUBARU, IT HAS DONE ITS WORK WELL. MY DAUGHTER (MY ONLY!)IS STILL WITH US. SHE WAS MORE UPSET ABOUT HER BELOVED CAR BEING TOTALLED, AND HAD NAMED IT 'LILLY'...??!!. 100% OF BLAME IS ON THE U-TURN VEHICLE PER THE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR. I HAD TOLD MY WIFE TO TAKE LOTS OF GOOD CELL-PHONE PHOTOS (LEARNED IN MY TRUKKIN' DAYS) WHICH SHE DID WHILE I CLEANED OUT THE POSSESSIONS FROM MY BABY'S WHEELS; AND THOSE PICS SETTLED EVERYTHING WITH OUR INSURANCE CARRIER. WE WERE NOT ALLOWED AT THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE OF CORONA ISSUES BUT MY DAUGHTER ALLEGEDLY TOLD THE E.R NUSE: "DAMN! MY DAD ALWAYS SAYS THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IS OTHER PEOPLE...." GIRLS GET THEIR SENSE OF HUMOR FROM DADDY! https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=11105< I HAD JUST BOUGHT THOSE TYRES!:wah: FOR WHAT ITS WORTH, BOTH MY LADIES HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED IN SUBARUS AND THE OFFENDING VEHICLES WERE TOTALLED WHILE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER DROVE AWAY UNHARMED....WE'RE ALREADY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE. AMAZINGLY, I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND GET IT TO THE ROADSIDE AFTER THE OFFICER FINISHED HIS REPORT, AND DIRECTED ME TO DO SO; THE STEERING WAS VERY BAD.. no apology needed; my daughter's pretty mad at the guy she hit. I had to explain the automotive facts to her. No sense getting mad...and the insurance is settling $6500 on the car ,an '07 bought used, with 140k miles and two previous accidents. That goes to her new wheels. Considering the hard lesson learned, she'll probably drive more defensively from here on out.

Gotcha! same here as I drove a Navy Police emblazoned patrol vehicle with redlights on the air base police detail graveshift. If I spotted a tailight out, I'd pull them over on a weekend evening where young 20's something(kids with kids!:hmmm:) enlisted Coast Guard were based; headed offbase for a social evening out. It would not do to get pulled over for a taillight fixit violation by municipal police or CHP and then get caught with too much alcohol. One should become the designated driver for the evening...and carry spare bulbs! I never heard anything but thankyou. A conviction could've cost them their military job, alot of money, and their free housing. The daughter's surgery is today. She'll recuperate at our place; Mom is quite delighted to have her baby home for awhile. Apparently they only sedate lightly, remaining conscious, for the procedure pinning the wrist bones. Baby did not appreciate my humor: "You are at 'wrist' everytime you get behind the wheel:yep:" We're checking out 2019 fleet Subarus with less than 10k miles on them to rehorse the lass; the customary Memorial Day auto sale and my timely Federal stimulus check should help pare down the tab...:shucks:

Gave the wife free reign to go with my son and pick a new three piece suite back in January, telling her not to inform me of her choice so I might hopefully get a pleasant surprise.
She was told it would take up to thirteen weeks to manufacture but that unfortunately coincided with the lockdown.
The suite (one three seater and one two seater) arrived Friday.
The picture below is of the two seater and the head and leg reclining functions are individually controlled for each seat.
I asked her why she felt the need for all the bells and whistles and she replied "I was thinking of you as you approach old age and besides, each unit has two USB phone charging points.
