Went to the eye doctor again this morning. The eye that was supposed to heal in two or three days is only marginally better after two weeks. He told me that it was one of the densest cataracts he's ever seen. If the medication they have me on don't do the job in two or three months they will consider a cornea transplant. Even then he told me to be prepared for the eventuality that I may never have full use of that eye again. Meanwhile of course the operation for the left eye in indefinitely postponed.
I hope it works out for you and they figure a way to restore your eyesight other than the cornea transplant.

Just back from the madness being committed within the cofines of one of the local supermarkets.
The only items needed were the veg because of the short dates so I've suggested getting frozen veg next year and typically she/the wife will have nothing to do with that idea.

Had a surprisingly quiet Christmas this year. Very pleasantly surprised.
Normally when there's any sort of "Big Event" to be celebrated, around here it's usually a cross between a riot and an orgy. Not this year. Even managed to have a bit of a nap in the daytime.
Very nice. Thanks J and S.

Great clos/immediate family day in, the first in a while my son in particular has been home.
Today we entertain other family members (brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.) so no doubt my beer and spirits stocks will take a bit of a bashing.
Was at the local ASDA earlier and was quite surprised to see most of the veg (mountains of it) being offered for free.

Probably has to be eaten in the next 24/48 hours. Veg costs more than choc bars and if the NHS and govenment want us more healthy put the cost up on choc and lower the cost on veg its not rocket science you know.
Happy Boxing Day Jim. :)

Reminds me of an incidence a few years back. We were visiting friends in Toronto and were out on the Toronto Islands. We rented bicycles and toured around. My friend Gord heard that there was a nude beach and when we went by it he wanted to check it out. My wife and I and Gord's wife declined and relaxed on a bench. Shortly Gord comes walking back shaking his head. "What's wrong" I asked? "My eyes, my eyes" he yelled.

It is stressful. We both worked hard to get to the point where we can finally have a decent living and now we are back to worrying about when bills are due.
We are OK for a month or two, but if this tantrum goes on any further it will be tight.
Worst of all, we are still supporting her 30 year old daughter and her family. I told The Frau that we can, by scraping, survive on just my salary, but we can't handle two mortgages.
Unfortunately, the loser daughter is very good at the emotional extortion and has her mother over a barrel.

Commander Wallace

^ Sorry this Impasse in Washington has hurt your family. The daughter is only making a bad situation worse. If it helps, Eichhörnchen (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=329818) says that the daughter can live under his back porch with the squirrels, rabbits and prairie dog but the squirrels, according to E, won't share their nuts. Hospitality has it's limits.

:03:Indeed! Newly installed with the kitchen/bath and roof renovations, our front yard and the foundation may have settled slightly following two minor 'quakes and the the flooding gutter section may no longer properly level. The recent severe rains caused flooding and five deaths this week; I twice climbed in the torrential rains to the roof to clear the afflicted gutters and downspouts of leaves and soot from the major fires, getting thoroughly drenched. I'm contemplating gutter screens which were on the old gutters...the ceaseless duties of a soggy 68 year old 'Lord of the manor' are myriad!!:k_confused:

https://www.sfgate.com/weather/article/wind-strongest-Bay-Area-San-Francisco-storm-13580951.php
Lashing winds with isolated gusts up to 80 mph will accompany a powerful winter storm poised to barrel across the Bay Area Friday night.
On Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service upgraded a high wind watch to a more severe warning in effect 3 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday for the entire region.
"Trees and power lines will go down with near-certainty," says Ryan Walbrun, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Bay Area. "Stuff will be flying around the city. Scaffolding will be coming off buildings. Trees falling on cars and houses and everything."
I did a little 'heat exchanging' of my own: my 98.6F for the Bay's brisk 58F with water temps also in the 50's(according to the new sonar depth gear) 'winter sailing' for a Minnesota boy....just ain't!...as long as you've got your hood on for the ears!:03: Winds were from the East though all day, which disoriented our usual tacking and maneuvers in the tide's strong current. http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx22/aktungbby/WINTER%20SAIL_zpsfqvshpgo.jpeg?t=1548605316

/\Alas! Too late; I spent 8 hours on the mean wet streets of downtown financial district 'Frisco' in full gear escorting my tech from bank to bank; topped off by a grueling two hour commute in the heavy rain back to the home and dinner...and the night is
still young:k_confused:
Was not using the car for the last three weeks, due to repair. Could only work at it an hour per day during the week because the garage closed at 6:30 p.m, but then full time on saturdays.
I really never want to change a heat exchanger on a Xantia V6 with air conditioning again. What a !"§$%/(!! construction

Looks time consuming task.:Kaleun_Salute:
Citroens are not known to be easiest DIY cars.
Im soon about to change the timing belt of my Xantia. Its only <20 000 driven with that belt but its also about 8 years old. Haynes owner manual recommends changing the belt at 90 000 km/8 years. The original belt was changed at 90 000/14 years. So Idon't think the existing belt is not neccesarily about to break any time soon, but better not take any risks considering the catastrophal damage to the engine if the belt breaks.

^^ Yes lol, i am happy that it's over. Though now it loses a bit of coolant, due to a new(!) steam bubble seperator that proved to be leaky. Oh the joy.. But it is quite easy to exchange, for a change :03:
Will wait for better weather.. for now i just top it up.
For changing the timing belt, make sure to put the engine in first-piston top dead center and ignition, arrest the cam- and crankshaft and so on.. always renew the tensioner and diverter pulley(ies). And after fitting the new belt, turn the engine at least two times in running direction, then again check the positions.. sometimes it is then one cleat (right expression?) advanced or retarded, leading to less performance. Well i guess you know all that..
I found the Haynes manual to be utterly useless.. the heater exchange is not described properly, and the V6 version is not even mentioned.
Good luck :):salute:

Well for a failed artist I didn't do so bad... 37 years in the business and my paintings bought me a pension fund which paid off the mortgage and left a fairly good residue. But I can't justify drawing upon and depleting that when I've not yet reached pensionable age
Being an artist is all about getting the breaks: I've been lucky in having patrons who've paid me to paint continually, as well as much publishing work (greetings cards and collectors plates etc) but my last patron died just over a year ago and the publishing world has largely turned its back on the way things were done before... paying an artist to license his work... they think they can do it all on computers now
I just got home and I've got my 3 days off now, so watch out

I can't blame you for being an American and unfamiliar with our iconic Lancaster, but it did have a very short fuselage-to-wing ratio (wingspan about 1.5 times the length of the fuselage when I measure my model). You can notice this most when you look at the short distance between the wings and tailplanes (this photo foreshortens the starboard wing rather grossly because of lens effect)
https://i.imgur.com/GBvIrKP.jpg
Furthermore, the Lanc did actually start out as a twin-engined design named the Avro Manchester... yet whilst its span was only 10 feet more than that of the Manchester, its fuselage was actually just about the same length... leading to its 'short' appearance

You just couldn't make this up, Davey (the decorator) turned up earlier and announced he's been off work for the past month suffering from sciatica and was clearly hobbling as he entered the hose.
My decorating job is his first since returning to work and the moans and groans I can hear upstairs as he hangs the wallpaper are slightly concerning yet funny at the same time :)

Sounds like he went back to work to soon, I suspect he's his own boss so to him time is money. Once you damage your sciatica nerve you are never the same again. I should know I suffer it and its worst that normal back pain.

Today, I'm recovering, since yesterday I had an extraordinarily beautiful and exhausting bicycle tour, amongst other highlights the so-called "Cherry-Blossoming Tour" at the small town of Hagen a.T.W. (not the bigger city of the same name in the Ruhr area). Extremely harsh climbings could not make you failing to be stunned by the beautiful sights and most idyllic places and romantic routes you stumble over time and again if you explore the area. Today, my legs are heavy and I am done, but it was worth it. Ten hours on the saddle, no longer breaks, just short stops to do some video shooting here or there, additional to the bike cam. Did I mention the steep climbs? Unfortunately, this secondary footage for the most went wrong. Too bad. Oh, the many steep climbs everywhwere. without an ebike I would feel lost, and even with engine it was very tiring because it was so long a tour. I drank like a horse, almost five litres.
Hagen is a centre of cherry seed preservation, a so-called gene ark. They have almost 300 different cherry types in the area and a storage base for the genetic material and seeds. Every second house in the town at least seems to have cherry trees. Unfortunately they all have white blossoms only - I saw not a single rose-coloured, not one. That was a bit dissapointing, I had expected some more sensation, I admit, since they acively advertise with their cherry thing. Also, most trees are very small only. So, while they are nice, the cherry trees alone are no reason to tour there, but the general sights of the area, the idyllic landscape in general is absolutely worth it. But you need to know the small, hidden routes for getting the best of it. Then it is like vacation in the deepest rural area of Bavaria. Beautiful.
A certain part of the most idyllic place already is named like it: "Himmelreich", Kingdom of Heaven. :D
It was my 30th or more tour into that place since last year, and although it is a relatively small area, I still am able to discover some routes and places I have not seen before although i spend hours and hours there.:yeah:
150 km, climbs of over 15%. The joy came at a price. :)
First time ever I killed both batteries down to zero not for calibration, but in normal operation. The last 4 kilometer home I drove totally dry. Of course, the wind had changed and I had it in my face (again). On a bike weighing 33kg with all stuff loaded. I do not recommend you to repeat that.

Actually the Holperdorptal is part of he area I speak of, and that includes also the street between Bad Iburg and Lienen. The socalled Lienen serpentines are a motorcyclist meeting point, I see columns of bikes there quite often, also race bicycles and mountain bicycler whose drivers train there heavy breathing :), but no ordinary cyclists. The serpentines cross the hills of the Teutoburger forust in North-Wetsern direction, and dping that trip on bike in southern direction equals attempted slaughter. I have an speed advanatge over motorbikes, since they drive 50-70 km/h and I just 20-25, I can enjoy the journey three times as long as they can only. :) The serpentines are in a forest area with little outlooks over the countryside, however.

And this trecking video shows some of the outlooks into the landscape. Quick-click the video for finding the sequences interesting if you do not want to watch the whole video, he ahs some good material. Its also in the area, and representative for what I talked of earlier.

The place he is walking in is on the southern rim of the area talked about. "Malepartus" that he also mentions, is an original Bavarian style restaurant whrre you get only typical Bavarian "Brotzeiten" and typical Bavarian food, nothing else. And very big and very good cream puffs with ice fillings. "Malepartus" is a Bavarian word, or name, for "fox".

How much do you pay for lemons and limes in your area?
To go with your fish ... I'm paying one dollar each for lemons and 50 cents each for small limes.

Up and on my computer for the first time in three days. Friday night I went to bed as usual, and as usual had to get up a couple of times to hit the head. Nothing unusual there, until I got up again Saturday morning, went to the head again and then back to bed. And then again. And again Saturday afternoon. And Saturday evening. Saturday night I was up just long enough to post a place-holder in the '100 Years' thread. Sunday morning was more of the same. And Sunday afternoon. And Sunday night.
I don't mean to be repetitive, but I needed to give an idea of what this was like. I slept for more than forty-eight hours. Didn't eat anything. Didn't drink anything for more that twenty-four hours, and then only because I forced myself to.
Woke up this morning with a mild headache. My eyes have gone blurry so I can't drive to the hospital. No money for a cab, or even the bus. I really don't want to tie up the services it would waste to call an ambulance. I found out that my HUD-funded apartment is part of a network of transportation services, so I can get a ride with them. If I'm not well tomorrow I intend to do just that. Meanwhile I'm feeling well enough to type again, and I don't feel like going back to bed.

Was your appointment with a VA outlet? I ask because I can walk into the Emergency Room (which also functions as General Admissions) any time I want. If it was the VA, are you aware that they have an Outreach Program that lets you get treatment at a local facility and they will still pay for it? This link should help you find your way to the right place.

Thank you for the link ... I am on VA choice with a local clinic, but all they want is your money or I should say the government's money. No, I was talking about something serious like my eyes which needed a 3 month wait for the doctor to see me at a VA hospital, but they finally did and fixed me up good even free meds etc.
As for prayer you don't have to be a believer just a receiver ... your problem is probably connected to your cataract surgery that didn't work out, but the going to the bathroom might be your prostrate health. Your body is definitely trying to tell you something that's for sure.
Kathryn Kuhlman was a famous faith healer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathryn_Kuhlman)
back in the 1970's and she was healing non believers so her followers said to her, "Kathryn, this is not right that you are healing non-believers" and she said, "Oh honey I don't have anything to do with it God does all of that"
Back to work but hey I'm off again on the bank holiday May. :)

I don't think so. Part of the bathroom problem is likely connected with the diabetes. The other part is the ongoing intestinal problem I've been having. This actually felt similar to something I had several years ago, which the doctors said was not Mononucleosis but was related. Right now I'm feeling pretty good. If it comes back I know how to get a ride to the VA now.

Not to get TMI, and ugh, I know we don't like talking about it, but a life long friend of my father was diagnosed yesterday with Prostate Cancer. Get that mess checked if you even suspect something might be up. It's apparently going to be up to us men to take care of each other.

Fortunately not much chance at all. Everything's electric - no gas anywhere.
Whatever it was seems to have passed. After trying to catch up past work I suddenly found myself going to bed at 0200. And then - as often happens - I couldn't sleep. Now it's 0313 and I've decided to go ahead and catch up the other missing stuff - like my WOFF playing. The store opens in less than three hours and my eyes are normal again, so I can drive, and I need some milk.
Or I might fall asleep before then. We'll see.

Call me otherwise as I'll be on tap and I still have a lot of salt water fishing gear to find a home for. Reels and lures as the big rods are gone. Some abalone stuff as well if you know somebody.
This goes for anybody else who might be interested. There is also a large collection of small shells all identified by genies and species I need to find a home for. Some large nice shells as well.
Taking a break from work and chilling out. Need a break from those silly work hours that get too me after a while.

Waiting to see the handiwork of my new buddy (left, an ex Welsh Guardsman). He's from my dad's home town of Pwllheli in Wales and he colourises old black & white photos as a hobby... mostly military subjects. He says he'd like to have a go at an old photo of me standing with my brother in our Army Cadet days in the 1970s
I'm not sure, but I think he's given this photo a bit of colour-enhancement too... he uses a special software for this but I'm never sure that I like the results
It will be interesting to see what he makes of it and I'll post it when he's done

Received my renewal quotes for building and contents from the bank so I decided to perform a search of a well known compare the market site and there are plenty of companies offering like for like policies about 40% cheaper.
Today is a bank holiday here in the UK so I'll be ringing the bank in the morning and declining their renewal quote.

^ CONSIDERING WHAT THEY'LL GOUGE U FOR ON LIFE INSURANCE IN YOUR 60'S.... YOU'VE GOT TO CUT CORNER$ $OMEWHERE:shucks: I'M OFF TO THE MECHANIC TO ASSIST DAUGHTER WITH HER CAR- NEEDING A NEW FAN MOTOR FOR HEATER/AC; THEN DRIVING HER TO WORK. I USED TO DO IT BUT THE NEWER MACHINES AND THE POSTURE TO GET UNDER THE DASH PRECLUDE MY INVOLVMENT.

I don't bother with life insurance these days. No mortgage or debt etc. and sufficient investments/savings to see me through retirement.
Besides, if I die, I don't get the benefits of the insurance payout so sod that :03:

Is that like for fire and theft?
I think they call it indemnity insurance over here.
Make sure you get replacement value insurance. My house got robbed one time and my mother was in insurance for twenty years and she had the replacemnt value insurance policy for me.
So the stuff got replaced at the current rates not what the used rate would've been.

Well, yet another birthday has come and gone. This year, my doctor asked me to stop eating and to drink something called a "Prep". He said he wanted to "take a look at me". Nothing unusual in that. Doctors look at me all the time.
This time, I had to wear that backwards gown and lay on my left side. But what's the worst that can happen? :o:o:o
Preliminary reconnaissance imagery indicates no issues. The doctor took some souvenirs to send to one of his buddies. Doctors do some strange things sometimes.
:D
Looks like I am good for another 3 years, 3,000 miles.
