Sorted
I hear napalm solves those kinds of problems.
Maybe but...
I love the smell of mowed lawn in the morning.

I have a gardener who cuts my grass, I'm an idle sod. I wish my 'sod was idle'; but have a crabgrass and Bermuda affliction that reeks havoc with the front yard which I had sodded ten years ago or so...thinking of switching to a low-maintenance rock, wood chip, and low water succulents. Everyone else's lawn on the street is iffy as well(cat toilet issues) and technically we're still in a drought; No one else on my street puts any great effort toward golfcourse standard either!:03: With the temps hittin' 95-100 all week, they'll be calling for water conservation before the summer's over I expect. http://cdn.freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/8.png<Kinda what I've got in mind:hmmm: with this for the already existing rock trim aprons at the front street and neighbor boarder. >http://cdn.freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/7.png

I used to be able to boast that but the garner (wife) got sick of the chore so I spent a tidy packet (admittedly) but well worth it to make said chore go away permanently.

Just got home from another gig. We were scheduled to play at the Barbary Coast, technically a biker bar, but with great people, great food and great entertainment. A couple of years ago I went there for an Open Mic night, and they hadn't really organized anything, so I ended up playing there by myself for a couple of hours, just me and my 12-string.
Then we were helped out by a band who know our lead guitarist, and to do us a favor we opened for them. The bar owners like us and had us back to headline. A band who we've played with before opened for us, and I was surprised to find that they've improved a lot since the last time we played together. They actually put on a very good show. They also ran long, which cut into our time, so we started half-an-hour late, at 2330.
We played an hour-and-a-half straight through, and the night went quite well. They want us back again in September, and by then we hope to carry a full show by ourselves.
Now it's 0330 and I wish there was someplace open with all-night jams. I'm not done playing yet!!!

Classic car rallye 2017, was asked to accompany a friend in a car we both restored, the (in)famous Citroen SM with Maserati engine.
We were late for registering and got the penultimate starting number of 121, so we were just there for the fun. But got the highest award for speed and least penalty points, even beating the Ferrari GTO :haha:
Guess we really p.. a few off, but was great. Lots of great cars like Jaguar Es, a pre-war Tatra, Fiats and so on. Prettiest cars (for me) still being the TR 4 and Spitfire '4' ("Mk 1")
Lots of fun!

The Sunderland Air Show finished last night and was marred only by a few display cancellations due to low visibility last night.
I felt honoured a privileged to see the Red Arrows practicing on Friday night during which they staged a wonderful tribute to Bradley Lowery.
The pilots used their blue smoke trails to create a blue heart in the sky, in memory of the six-year-old Sunderland football fan who lost his battle with cancer earlier this month.
God Bless you little fighter.
Sorry mates, after a five year absence, I am back. Long story but life is wonderful. I will have my new rig Tuesday and will be a gray wolf and maru killer in no time. Just finished ep 2 of GoT and finishing a pint with a brown chaser.

Went on a call last night and wound up changing my flat tire, recently installed new a month ago. Fortunately I had cleared the Oakville Grade with no cell-phone service and was back on level ground; so no need to call AAA roadside assist with a technician still awaiting my arrival. So doffing half my gear; half emptying the trunk; ...on went the new donut-tyre-in 10 minutes!:yeah:;I stopped to inflate the spare that had been sitting 5 years at least...and the evening proceeded as planned! I opted to take the long level roundabout route home (hey I get mileage too:up:) as my spare-tire options worst-case scenario-wise were now zilch. I made it home judiciously maintaining under 50 mph as recommended on a donut-spare. This AM off to the tire shop: Americas' Tire to replace my cheap Korean Sentury Touring tire as it was beyond repair. Apparently in a fit of foresight I no longer recall, I had opted for the warranty...which normally I never do. So a new tire for nothing; a minor warranty reuppance fee:salute: and a 'state required' environmental fee....$7.75 total to restore a harmonious friction-coefficient with roadway asphalt for the work-car.

Played an interesting show this afternoon. We have a park downtown with a stage and some other buildings, called the Gallivan Plaza. During the summer they have frequent noontime shows called the "Lunch Bunch". We were under the impression that large crowds of people showed up to eat and enjoy the entertainment. This is probably true on Thursdays, when there are several vendors selling all kinds of food there, but this particular Monday we played for a crowd of maybe six people. There were folks in other parts of the park, and I'm sure we could be heard in the nearby office buildings.
Still, we put on our best performance and had a great time, as did the people who were there. We're scheduled back there on August 28, another Monday. The woman who runs the thing liked us enough that she said she'll write us in for a lot more of them next summer.

Looking at images of the real DHC-2 Beaver reg. C-FJOF to figure out a working scale look for the model. The decals/paint job out of the box need some fixing. Not simple as C-FJOF seems to be either 2 different aircrafts or one and the same that underwent heavy modifications.

[COLOR=orange]^Indeed!
Not only did it have both wheels and floats, but one of the floats versions have square rearmost windows where these two have round windows. The model has round windows and I opted for wheels (first plane, floats = bad idea!). Beside, I kind of like the paint/decals on the Gateway Aviation version. Looking around for more documentation on that. One thing about the wheelie though is, it doesn't have the small stabilizers on the elevator found on the floater. I'm not sure how the model flies without them.

Paul Hansen, our lead guitarist, set up a camera to record our gig at the Gallivan Plaza Monday. The bad news: Part of the way into our fifth song a couple of little kids grabbed the tripod. Nothing was broken, but the rest of the show didn't get recorded. The good news: What did get recorded came out very well, both video and audio.
This is a clip from our first number, 'Oh Mama', an original by Tally (lead vocals) and Paul.

Ha! Yeah, they get a bad rep but I don't have any major complaints so far. My store's management is somewhat toxic so there's that. I'm a truck unloader/evening stocker and yeah, I don't get full time and yeah, the job is somewhat mind numbing and yeah, just part time and whatever extra shifts I can find. But I really can't complain too much. I'm making way more money doing the same job I did before at a small grocer. There's other positions in the store I'm hoping to move into. My original application was for an Oil Change tech but their unloading crew was basically a skeleton crew and they needed people and I needed a job.
They pay 3$ better than minimum wage here and they're very college/military friendly so that works out very well for me. Summers, christmas and breaks in between I can pick up some extra money pretty easily.

Been hit by a few computer problems the past couple of days but my IT guy appears to have sorted them out (famous last words).

I just stayed up until 0430 waiting from some bitch I did not know decide to goin to labor.
The Frau was running a transport for the Dog Rescue organization. We knew we had a pregnant dog but we did not know how pregnant she really was.
We were supposed to keep the dog for an hour or two until the foster could pick her up, but she seemed ready.... too ready.
First puppy was out at about 2300 19Aug and the last of nine was delivered at 0430 20 Aug. All puppies and mother are doing well. As soon as they are stable the foster will pick them up.
It was pretty exciting as we are not set up in my house for whelping. But the mom's instincts came through like a champ. It was The Frau's first time seeing puppies being born so it was extra exciting for her.
Crikey we are tired. :)

[When the sight is dazed, and the moon is buried in darkness, and the sun and moon are joined together: Man will say on that day, ‘Where is the refuge?’] http://www.salafitalk.com/threads/1973-Salaatul-Kusoof-The-Eclipse-Prayer (http://www.salafitalk.com/threads/1973-Salaatul-Kusoof-The-Eclipse-Prayer) ....Anything to cover my relatively Christian ass in this time of travail:yeah: as my daughter and her swain have gone(by car) to Oregon to view it firsthand and it's getting crazy up that way: About 1 million people are expected to visit Oregon in the coming days – and up to 200,000 to Central Oregon – in the coming days to see the rare celestial event. It’s the first total, coast-to-coast solar eclipse in the U.S. in 99 years and totality – when the moon’s shadow blocks the sun and casts a shadow on Earth – first makes landfall in Oregon, making the state a top destination for eclipse watchers. :k_confused:

Just got back from the hospital, things are not as good as they could be, but at least everything is under control at the moment.
The enormous temperature rises are due to small pockets of infection around the original operation and now the bowel. Too small to operate on, so this is being treated with anti biotics for the moment.
On the plus side she is last being allowed to drink fluids, rather than having a drip, we are keeping our fingers crossed she may be allowed on a soft diet from tomorrow.
She is understandably very tearfull atm, and it breaks my heart each time I have to leave, but at least there is some light at the end of the tunnel at last.

Much harvesting is at night to avoid the heat on the workers. The smoke from numerous California and Oregon fires has descended on the Napa Valley and the haze is very thick. This is not without effect on the #1 industry:
...also mentioned that a majority of red grapes are in a hardened state at the moment, but as they begin to soften toward the end of the month, this will make them more susceptible to smoke.
As it happens, Australia’s Department of Agriculture has already had the chance to investigate the effect smoke has on grape and wine production, after the country was hit with large wildfires in 2003 near Canberra. And it wasn’t good.
“Wines made from grapes exposed to smoke during sensitive growth stages can exhibit aromas and flavors resembling smoked meat, disinfectant, leather, salami and ashtrays,” said a report. It noted that when “unfavorable smoke characteristics are detected by consumers at high concentrations”, the wines could be “unpalatable”.
“Unsalable wines result in financial losses for producers with costs flowing on to wine brands, market presence and future sales,” the report said
In California, those invested in winemaking all across the state are watching the daily efforts to extinguish or contain the blazes that have already come dangerously close to their grapes. https://sfbay.ca/home/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/17442532079_508a49bf52_k-845x563.jpgSpare the Air is in legal effect till after the weekend; so no holiday BBQ's; spending day indoors watching "Up Periscope' ''the Enemy Below'' and ''Destination Tokyo'' on TCM! with a classic 2009 Napa Cabernet (as yet smoke free) in hand of course.:Kaleun_Applaud:

Sacramento delta....Old Smokey Chateu la Brand The Delta area wine appellation consists of Koolaide with rubbing-alcohol and red dye #2 or excess maraschino cherry juice added for effect...generally causing blindness. That's Chateau by the way;:know: although the spelling their runs toward 'Quonset Hooch'! Gallo a major wine middle grade bottler in the Lodi-delta area famously made 'fortified wines such as Thunderbird; 'Wild Irish Rose' http://drinks.seriouseats.com/images/2011/08/20110802wildirishrose.jpg a favorite of the down and out. :()1: https://www.thrillist.com/drink/nation/bum-wine-comparing-wild-irish-rose-thunderbird-cisco-wine-and-others (https://www.thrillist.com/drink/nation/bum-wine-comparing-wild-irish-rose-thunderbird-cisco-wine-and-others) I myself stick to Trader Joe's $3 buck chuck chardonnay (used 2 B Two buck Chuck) which is actually quite good but on occasions of state go with classy Mondovi's lesser brand of Woodbridge, also from the delta appellation.....No screw-top vino only corks in my hooch BBY...at 66, I have some standards left!:Kaleun_Cheers:

Well there won't be any internet for my son for the next 7 days; he came home and smashed his Lego Dimensions set on his bedroom floor because something had upset him on the school bus. After I told him he wasn't now getting his pocket-money visit to ASDA this week, he went and smashed a wine glass in the washing-up bowl.
His autism means he doesn't see consequences... he can't think in a linear way or understand narrative; a movie to him is just a series of exciting scenes, not a story. I asked him what he thought might happen if one of us had swallowed some of the glass and he said "Go to tip".

We have talked a little bit about this and you and Moira do well for what you have been handed. I'm not sure if this is the way to go this time. You said something upset him on the school bus and it may well be that others are bullying him on the bus and Lawrence is dealing with issues he is ill equipped to handle. Kids at that age can have a " pack mentality " and be really nasty and cruel to anyone they perceive as different.
His destruction of his Lego Dimension set shows he is dealing with some frustrating and traumatic issues. If this is the case, he needs to know that his home is a safe haven and that you have his back and understand him. Perhaps speak with the school and bus driver and ascertain what if anything has happened or continues to happen on the bus and go from there.
Dealing with Autism as long as you have, you know far more than most about this condition. If Autism in your case means Lawrence can't think in a linear fashion or understand consequences, then it may be better to deal with issues on his level. Just something to consider and help you put things in perspective. I'm sure Lawrence is doing the best he can under the circumstances.
Lawrence is the center of You and Moira's universe and I'm sure you will make the rights decisions regarding Lawrence as you and Moira always do. You are all dealing with issues most of us can't even imagine. Keep your head up.
Good luck my friend. We have your back too.

Thanks, CW. No it's not bullying... fortunately; these kids are so closely monitored that bullying just can't happen. One of the other kids had a meltdown and had to be carried off the bus. One of his problems... like a lot of these kids... is that if his routine is disrupted to any great degree (and the incident caused a half-hour delay) then he goes off on one. Maybe not right there and then either... Lawrence saves it all up for us when he gets home! But he has to know, like any naughty child, that really bad behaviour will result in loss of privileges (no beatings around here). He does know what he should and shouldn't do, though, and he knows that destructiveness will upset us, so he is making a choice when he breaks things. Believe me, I've already told Moira I feel bad for suspending his computer time for so long, but he's never done anything so potentially dangerous before now; breaking his own toys is only going to be a matter of stopped pocket-money for one weekend, but the wine glass thing... well...
Thanks for your kind words anyway, buddy :)

PS: He's always gone to 'special' schools... infants, juniors and now seniors, but by his age a lot of the more able pupils have moved to more mainstream placements, leaving only the more severely affected ones. As a result, some of the kids at his school now are very severely disabled and it would have been one of these poor souls was the cause of all the fuss yesterday.

Ok. I was thinking he was on a regular bus. Years ago, Autism was really not known, identified or even talked about and a lot of these poor souls so afflicted were just drugged. These kids were harassed and bullied at school to a point that some never recovered. If Lawrence is on a bus with kids like himself, it doesn't rule out bullying but makes it perhaps less likely. All kids need discipline but wouldn't even have a guess as to how to approach your situation other than how you are already coping.
Knowing Lawrence as you do, I'm sure you're doing the right thing although I know you feel bad. Trust your instincts as to how to approach and resolve the issue. I'm guessing this is just a relatively minor hiccup regarding Lawrence. Lawrence trusts you as he should and you and your family will work it out. Keep your head up. It will all come together.

Thanks, mate. He is safe on the bus: it's just a minibus with a driver and a chaperone sitting with the kids, so no bullying possible. That is an issue if they get sent to mainstream schools, however, and well-meaning plans to send them to ordinary schools to help get them integrated and accepted can lead to absolute misery for some. We were given that choice at the start and nearly took it, except we couldn't get funding for full 1-to-1 care (and we were advised that's what he needed).

Thank you for this opportunity to know you and your family better Eichhörnchen :yep:
It must be hard to deal with this problem and have all of the normal everyday problems the rest of us have to deal with too. Are you able to fellowship with other parents that have children with Autism? So you can network and share each others burdens.
May you have the strength to deal with this problem of Autism which I hear is growing, growing so much that prenatal testing has developed to be able to tell if the baby will have this problem and the parents are having abortions to prevent it's occurring ... over 98% chose this method in Iceland.

Thanks, buddy. Yes there are plenty of networking groups to be found as you progress through the schools, and the great thing is you get to relax at events and places where no-one is staring at your kid's odd behaviour... because they're all in the same situation.
It does all mean that our future is pretty much a black hole, though. What will happen to him we don't know... we try not to think about it and take things one stage at a time.
Full house at work tonight, just hope it stops raining when I set off later.

My newest research book came today - The Jasta Pilots, by Norman Franks, Frank Bailey and Rick Duiven. It includes a brief listing of ever single pilot who flew for Germany from August 1916 to November 1918, including victory lists. Not the aces, though, since these authors already did a book dedicated just to them. It's a welcome addition, and at $56 well worth the price.

You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that gave utterance to a threat. At length I would be avenged; this was a point definitely, settled --but the very definitiveness with which it was resolved precluded the idea of risk. I must not only punish but punish with impunity. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong....We continued our route in search of the Amontillado. :Kaleun_Cheers:

Recuperating from a rough couple of days. Wednesday night I was up late with intestinal problems. Thursday was game night, so I didn't get to bed until around 0200. Then the problems hit again, and I was up until 0500. At 1000 the doorbell rang. Apartment maintenance wanted to change all the filters and batteries. I ended up going to rehearsal with only five hours' sleep. Then they reminded me that another band had invited us to sit in on their gig. We went, and they let us play a full set. Again I didn't get to bed until 0200. I woke up around 0900, so I'm still short of sleep, but at least I don't have to be anywhere today.
