I'm wondering, why are we using a outdated version of the mods? Is this the most updated version of the pack, or are we just using a older version for a particular reason?

I believe we're using 6.3, and the latest version of the mudpack is 6.4, I think Arc preferred to go for the more-likely-to-be-stable version.

Well if we can find out if 6.4 is stable I'd like to update since the newer version of Thermal expansion (if it has the most up to date version) has no energy loss in conduits, and since Endermen who drop ender pearls are a rarity! I'm going to have to move power to my bee building by conduits.

Not sure, the Endermen were spazzing out a bit while we were in there, constantly teleporting, not actually staying in one spot for longer than a split second. So, not sure if the End actually works properly or whether something has broken somewhere. Zirran has some Pearls for your turtle though IIRC.

Yep, already started a mining colony in the nearby mountains.
But the lodge and workshop will be close to the town. On the coast


The plot of land next to the ocean, rough coordinates 400, 250, next to the town.
Anyone claimed it or I can build my house there ???

Considering there's an ender pearl shortage, obtaining lava from the nether to power my (planned) power plant might be a problem :-?

Here is the depot at the main city, Electricfox has done a fairly good job at it, he's got two locomotives, called them Percy and Edward, the green one is Percy, and the blue one is Edward...although why he had to paint it in SDJR blue I do not know. Still, no-one's perfect, at least he managed the GWR green right.

And this is 'Lord of the Isles', one of Gooch's children, broad gauge, of course, as it should be, none of this four foot eight and a half inches nonsense. You can see the comparisons between the two, although you have to sit in a seperate wagon for the footplate on 'Percy', poor design and workmanship, very sloppy. Now, in the tender or bunker is water and coal, in 'Percy's case coal, charcoal, coal coke and about seven or eight buckets of water.

A steam locomotive needs water and fuel to exist, deprive it of one or the other and bad things happen. In this 'Minecraft' if you run out of water, and then put cold water in a hot boiler, the bad thing that happens is a large crater and no locomotive. In real life, the bad thing that would happen if you ran out of water is the total embarrasment of having 'dropped a plug', or if you were driving a locomotive created before the invention of fusible plugs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusible_plug), then a large explosion and death. So, don't do it.

To help you avoid running out of water, Electricfox has provided 'water columns' along the railway for you to use alongside the water buckets inside your tender.

This is the water column at the central station where the End portal is located. To refill your water tank, stop your locomotive underneath it.

Like so, and then water will drop into the tank and your locomotive will be safe from exploding until next time.

Be grateful that whoever designed these locomotives saw it fit to handwave away steam pressure, or fitted some sort of safety valve to it, because boiler explosions are bad things, alright?

Curiously this boiler explosion was not what inspired the idea for double decker trains.

Anyway, so remember chaps, keep the boiler filled up with water, keep the firebox filled up with fuel and you'll be happy. Shut down the locomotive in between use and it'll stop using fuel and water and you'll be good.

The GEO-core powerplant is operational.

Taping the power potential of hell itself, the first Nether pump station (one in four planned) began it's work today filling the first of the two lava storage tanks of the plant, which will feed 5 geothermal generators all conected to an MFSU unit.


Once in full operation, it will be able to power Magrathean operations

Haven't the foggiest to be honest. It's still a dev build, not stable, but in light of the errors it kept throwing it can't be worse than 6.3.

Hmmm, this is a problem.

We have basically two choices:

1) Continue with the server as it is, and deal with the frequent crashes and loss of work (not ideal)

or

2) Find a new more stable modpack and try again

Annoying because we're quite settled into this world, the city is nice, and we've all got projects on the go, but it's not much fun spending two hours working on something and then losing it all the time.

Yay!, I've been wanting to play with thaumcraft for a while now. Any idea when the new server will be up?

* I don't see the issue with mystcraft or Twilight forest, mystcraft would be useful just in case one of the mods adds a new ore, or something is bugged in the main world (EX our first try with the copper). Make a mystcraft world with the new config and there ya go its all there. Shouldn't cause any more issues than the nether.

I think so. Seems pretty stable in SSP.

There is an additional Biomes mode, Biome's O' Plenty, but the pack has it disabled by default. So I think we just go with the default config.

Instead of reading this first, I went on a scouting mission. Did a circuit of around 600-700 blocks away from the spawn outpost / City location.

My basic criteria were, flat land that wasn't snow or desert.

I did find a nice plains Biome next to some extreme hills, but I do think the lakeside location near the spawn is nicer, and this one is quite a distance from the spawn.

Anyway the coordinates were: X: -759 Z: -301

Personally I think I'll relocate back to the spawn lake.

IMPORTANT

Today I created a Nether portal...or, well I tried to.
The flint and steel is a bit bugged at the moment and decides that it doesn't want to light on occasion. To get around this I hax'd a portal in, however on doing a spot of reading I've found a possible solution. It is thus:

To fix this go into railcraft config and find block.rchidden (default id 473) and change it to 0

So I recommend that Arclight and everyone joining the server do the same.

I have no idea if the more recent version of the Direwolf pack has fixed this.

If Arc could post on here when he's done the switcheroo, so I know when to do so.

Just a heads up, the DW20 1.5 pack has gone public. It takes out one mod (OpenCC sensors),
so unless you guys are planning to stick to the beta pack, it might be a good idea
to update to the public pack before anyone starts using OpenCC.

Ah yes, I should have warned you about that...yes, the Nether has been 'upgraded' too. There are 'Nitro Creepers', some random sort of spider, and a pig that walks but isn't a zombie pigman...oh, and bats that attack you...whilst on fire.

There are also new trees in there, and some sort of 'sulphur cloud' which contrary to all expectations, doesn't kill you on contact.

I'll pop on and fire the gate up again.

EDIT: Huh, odd, it's created another gate, right next to the already active gate...random. Anyway, should be up now. Oh, just watch out, one of those angry zombies went through it, so he might be wandering around the other side looking a bit confused...and angry.

There was some upheaval about mismatching configs, basically they screwed up the upload. I'd really advice getting 1.1.1; we've had some issues with configs on clients being different from what's on the server.

Read yesterday that pumping lava from the nether causes lag and is banned on some servers.
Probably more populated but still, if things get too bad let me know and I'll stop the pumps if I'm not alone on the server.

Btw, Oberon, here's the MFR treefarm setup:

Harvester outputs saplings (I route logs and apples to a voidpipe), once they hit
the RR pipe, they are sorted equally to the BioReactor and to the Planter down the line.

The insertion pipe looks for the nearest inventory (Planter) and if there is space,
sends the item there. If there is no space in the Planter, the saplings will continue
and end up in the BioReactor.

Zirran and I made a random Mystcraft age to explore.

It's got long days, massive trees and a lot of mobs. The skies are black in the day and blue at night. There are tendrils of netherrack everywhere.

But you might like to explore it. Because it only has two biome types. The trees and Desert Oil Fields. So basically a tonne of free Oil.

The book is on a stand in my base. Which is now quite easy to get to.

Feel free to use the Mystcraft blocks in the far corner to make yourself some linking books to get home again. Or indeed to use the pages we found to make your own descriptive books. All I ask in return is that you let me copy any pages you find while on your travels.

In the end I hope to amass a good library so that I can make custom ages for people. I'm sure Betenov would like an age with lava oceans and no Ghasts.

Build yourself a Mining Turtle
Build yourself 2 chests
Visit Keab Turtle Mining Inc's magnificent base
Place your turtle beside the Disk Drive
Right click on the turtle and type the following commands

cp disk/setupQuarry setupQuarry
cp disk/Quarry Quarry
mkdir quarryFiles

Take your turtle and chests to your quarry site
Place a chest on the ground
Fill this chest with coal or charcoal
Place the turtle on top of the chest (shift click)
Place a chest on top of the turtle (shift click)
Right click on the turtle and type: setupQuarry <width> <length>
Make sure you completed step 11
You are now ready to set the turtle running there are two options for this:

Attended Operation. The chunk that the turtle is in must be loaded at all times. If the chunk becomes unloaded the turtle will stop mid program and will require rescue. Run this command by typing Quarry
Auto-Resume mode. If the chunk the turtle is in becomes unloaded, the next time the chunk loads the turtle should pick up exactly where it left off. Caution this functionality has not been tested thoroughly. Keab Turtle Mining Inc is not responsible for any turtles lost due to shoddy coding. You need to follow these steps to activate this mode:

Type: edit startup
Type shell.run("Quarry")
Press control
Use the arrow keys to select Save and press Enter
Press control
Use the arrow keys to select exit and press enter
Hold Ctrl + R to reboot the turtle


Sit back and enjoy the environmental destruction*

Notes: The range of the turtle will depend on the area that is chunk loaded. A person standing by the chests should be loading at least 64 blocks in each direction. As such the maximum dimensions for the quarry are potentially 128 64 (the turtle is set to mine equal numbers either side of the starting chest)

As the turtle runs it will return to the chest to deposit it's load and refuel if necessary. Please ensure that the upper chest always has room for the turtle to deposit into and that the lower chest has a constant supply of fuel. Ender chests might make your life easier here.

If you need to stop the turtle before it has finished the quarrying run (especially useful if you've set it to auto-resume) wait until the turtle is unloading, right click on the interface and hold Ctrl + T to terminate the program.

If you do terminate the turtle and want it to resume where it left off, simply run the command again and it will resume the quarrying in the right place.

If you have moved the turtle and want to start again, run the setupQuarry command again to reset the Turtle's progress.

If you have to rescue a turtle you have two options. You can run the Quarry command again from it's current location and as with the auto-resume option it should continue mining from it's current position. If you choose to rescue it and return it to the starting chests, you'll need to re-run setupQuarry as the turtle will no longer know where it is.

I do plan to release a version of this that uses GPS once I've had chance to build a GPS array and test it. For now this uses relative coordinates to it's starting position. This is why you need to make sure you use setupQuarry if you've moved the turtle.

Zirran, the copy of code I gave to you contains some bugs. You should grab the latest version. You'll need to run rm Quarry and rm setupQuarry to delete the current versions before copying the new code across.

I'm there. You'll need to get a link book to the overworld, and a stand to put the book on. Head to Keabs place and find the stand without a sign above it and go to that world. It should be a snowy biome with a frozen sea all around you, deploy the stand and put the book on it.

MAKE SURE THE BOOK IS LINKED TO THE OVERWORLD BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!

Or you'll get stuck there too...

Also for folks making new worlds. It's a nice courtesy to take a spare book and set it up on a stand at the spawn point. That way anybody who does what Fox did has a guaranteed route back.

Also when you warp in I do recommend making a waypoint to the book.

It was the cobble generators pipe to the recycler, pipe got too much cobble in it and exploded. No real damage, I'll get around to fixing it up and building another couple of recyclers soon.:yep:

Indeed you can. Make two unlinked linking books. Right click one in your base and one at your pumping station. Then just put them on stands in the right places. Over world book in the lava world, lava world book in the overworld.

I've put one in each component, but it depends on how long you want the charge to last for, it's cumulative so the more batteries in your suit the more charge you'll have, which is useful when you have things like shields and jetpacks draining it.

Also if you want Blaze Rods in a slightly safer environment just go to my mining world. It has Nether Fortresses. Just be careful it has a really short day/night cycle so you can get ganged up on by other mobs, but the plus side is there's no Ghasts or Lava.

I suggest using Unleashed pack.
Enable the Biomes o'plenty because they're cool.

Unleashed has stuff like advanced solar panels, dartcraft, gravi suite, apm...
If you decide to use Unleashed pack, enable all mods but

Death timer(annoying, i've lost some good stuff because it left the chunk loaded)
Vending(up to you, but i've heard it's bugged. Could be cool for trading though(
Nether ores(bugged i think + noone really needs those + they're potentially explosive and Pigmen don't like you mining them)

Not sure if you've already made changes to mystcraft config, but it's probably good to disable cave worlds, meteorites and any other bad effects that cause massive lag.

EDIT: it also doesn't have Gregtech.

Aaah, right. As far as I'm aware the server is fairly deserted, TF might be on it and Keab might be, but I haven't MC'd in a while, kind of ran out of things to do and moved on to other games, Kerbal Space Program mainly at the moment.
In regards to packs, again, nothing has happened as far as I'm aware. I haven't been up to date with what's been happening in the Minecraft world so I don't know what's been released and what it is.

You might need to update the actual minecraft launcher file, up to 1.3.7, and make sure Minecraft itself is running 1.7.4.

I managed to connect just now just fine. :hmmm:

Sort of, usage was basically 0 and a patch broke it. Haven't put it back up since, haven't heard any complaints, so...

There's 2 things I'm keeping an eye on at the moment: Space Engineers and Project Zomboid. Both feature multiplayer open-world survival stuff, but in both cases we're talking early access. Functional, but a little wonky in places and not complete. Not much different from when we picked up Minecraft.

Didn't think interest for MC would pick up again anytime soon, so was hoping to run a server for one of those. Not sure there's really much interest for either though. :hmmm:

Hello!

Yeah i've been waiting for SubSim FTB server since the 1.6.4 modpack started coming out. I hoped there would be more interest for this than this :P

Most of the new modpacks are now in stable versions and even though DW20 is a decent modpack i strongly suggest going with Monster this time - i've tried it out and i absolutely love it. The only downside for some people(*cough* Betonov *Cough*) is that mobs are harder but that can be countered by altering the difficulty to normal or even easy if neccessary. Otherwise there is a ton of fun new mods along with some familiar ones that have also been changed a little bit, some for the better some for the worse(IC2).



So if you do decide to start FTB again, my suggestion is

Monster v1.1.0
Disabled mods: MeteorCraft and possibly EnderNet(i've heard it has some issues)

server.properties:
- level-type=ATG (it works quite well with BoP, there are some rough edges sometimes but otherwise it's an awesome terrain generation)
- allow-flight=true (i usually forget to change this one and then crash when flying with my first jetpack)
- difficulty=2 ("normal" difficulty, can be changed to 1 for easy or 3 for hard, depends on how challenging we find it)

config changes:
Reika/Geostrata.cfg;
- B:"Generate Rock in Other Dimensions"=false (the alternate cobblestone types can be cool, but they get annoying so this prevents them from spawning in ages/deep dark)
- B:"Lamp Noises"=false (if you play with sound on, this is quite important :P)
- B:"Alternate Brick Recipes"=true (this makes all the new stone types a bit more useful)

mystcraft/instabilities.cfg
- B:meteors.enabled=false (lots of lag, lots of crashes)
(there are other possible disables to reduce lag)


I really hope this idea gets through because i've been trying to make a server for me and Betonov for quite a while now and everytime he tries to connect he gets Can't reach server(yes i've enabled mc/server/java/port on the firewall, i've opened the 25565 port and i'm using no-ip for easier ip.

So...there has been some conversations about bringing this back.

Modpack thoughts?

Also, I think that we should consider assigning specific titles to people, for example, one person does transport, another does power supply, another does infrastructure.

So, say Betonov makes an oil fired power station to supply electricity to a factory that Keab42 has made, he needs oil, so I build a railway out to the nearest oil well and transport oil back from it to the oil refinery that Task Force has made which then pumps the fuel over to Betonovs power station.

How does that sound? Obviously there can be overlaps since, for example, if Betonov isn't on and something has gone wrong with his power station then Task Force can fix it so that power can be achieved, or if I'm not on and more oil is needed then Keab can take the train out to bring some more back, and so on.

That way there's less overlap in what we're building (so we don't wind up with about four power stations) and we need to work together to make things happen.


Just one slight condition...bags me the train stuff. :yeah:

So something with Industrialcraft, Buildcraft and Railcraft as a basis perhaps?

A furniture mod would be nice, and I recommend that we turn mystcraft off, since it made getting resources a bit too easy, likewise things like the ender-tanks. They were nice, but again, a bit too easy.

I'd like traincraft, but with the new ores disabled (so that the diesels run from BC material) however I'm not sure if they've fixed the crash problem that they've had with railcraft, so I'm not too fussed.

Feed the Beast is probably the best option again, I'm looking at the Tech World modpack, going to boot it up and have a see what it has.

That is the tricky bit, since by nature we tend to automate a lot of the production, obviously in power generation you have an advantage since you'll be working towards a nuclear goal, and with railways I'll be building constantly as we move around various oil wells, and I'll be shuttling resources back and forth with some shunting (something I really do enjoy).

But what can we do to keep the other stuff challenging? :hmmm:

Actually, I was pondering if we could make our own modpack via technic, and whether it would work on MP...I remember trying to make myself a modpack a while ago and it failed miserably on MP but that was without using technic... :hmmm:

1. I'd prefer to keep the mods to the essentials. Server is getting on a bit and MC/java aren't particularly efficient with resources. Rather avoid the kind of HD-crashing CPU-melting nervous breakdown full packs tend to induce.

2. Might want to set up some form of project list. Just something so we can keep track of what's needed and what is being done. Should allow some flexibility, considering people have different amounts of time to invest.

Might be able to set up a basic website. Rather ridiculously easy nowadays with Wordpress and whatnot.

So, jobs...how does this sound?

Betonov: Power generation
Task Force: Mining and resource gathering
Oberon: Railway and resource transportation (getting fuel to the power generation)

Obviously we can all chip in with resource gathering to begin with, and all work on infrastructure, and if Zirran joins us then he can perhaps work with TF for resource gathering.

The first job will be creating a community house, then Betonov can set to work making a power station to power the house, then we'll get a factory up and running and from that we can get the rest of the stuff going.

Updated Java, have the same username as subsim, played with disabling/enabling mods and nothing.

The colony is, shall we say, self sustaining. Even made 3 beds inside the ''bunker''.

The mountains are rich with ore, further east there are flatlands, the chests are filled with resources.

Well, the plan as it stands is to build a workshop in the side of the mountain, this will be where I'll build, store and service the trains. At the moment there's not a great need for transportation so there's no major hurry, however soon you will probably need oil, so I will need to build a railway line from our mountain base to the oil well.
Likewise when we have exhausted the resources below us, a new mine can be built a bit further away, and a railway line can be built to it, and resources carried by train from the mine back to the mountain base.

Basically, you build it and I will come along with tracks. :03:

Of course, first I've got to set up the workshop so I can build the tracks and trains... :yep:

Oh fer crying out loud, made a semifluid generator to burn the creosote oil (I've been coking the coal because coke has four times the amount of EU), but semifluid generators wont accept creosote unless it's gregtech :/\\!! :/\\!!

Oh, there's also a metal former near the coke oven, no more need for hammers and cutters :03:

I was trying to make a Tinkers Construct hammer but when I put the materials into the Tool Forge it will not make the product. The recipe is correct, I think it is a bug with the current version.

EDIT: Locomotive number 1 'Ivor' has been created, and I've began tunnelling eastwards to head for the oil.

Sounds like a plan. :yeah: So long as we have a power source for EU and MJ then we should be good. Once we have a stable(ish) Oil power source then you can start working on the nuclear project if you wish.

Meanwhile, Task Force, if you would like to head east and set up the oil well, make it look pretty, I know you're good at that, I remember your oil rig from a few maps ago. Something like this perhaps:

I'll push the railway out to meet it, if you link all the oil derricks up to a central tank of oil and I'll put the railway up to it, from there I can load up the tank wagons en masse and transport them back to the oil refinary that Betonov will be creating for his power station.

Zirran, if you could be in charge of mining and ingot creation that would be excellent, saves us all crowding around the staring wall. :haha: If Keab joins us I'll assign him to join you. If you need to set up another mine a distance away from the main base, let me know and I'll lay out a railway line to help with transportation.

Our main goal right now though is power, so in that respect Zirran has one of the big jobs since he'll be grabbing coal to turn into coke and then putting it in the generator to supplement our solar power.

The windmill should provide a steady 30 EU/t when connected down, but the rotor will need to be replaced regulary.
