So, I'm on another forum which is essentially a nation simulator of sorts, a kind of global diplomacy game (although it often descends into facepalms and war). In this forum I am currently the leader of the UK in 1969 (Harold Wilson to be precise), and so I was about to write up a domestic story through the guise of a newspaper, and needed to find out if The Independent was operating in 1969...so I load up their website and what's the first thing I see?

Try to remember there's a limit on how many animals can spawn. That fancy huge herd your hoarding could keep animals from apearing for others. Please try to keep it reasonable. ;)

Hmm.. so I downgrade to 1.7.3 and have Technic Modpack installed as well as too many items.. and I go to launch the game and it hangs on updating minecraft done loading (even though I'm not connected to the internet..)

Edit.. Still hanging without TMI... Runs fine on 1.7.3 with no mods.. Fairly sure I'm installing the Technic pack correctly.. hmm

Alright, so I've got it up and running.

Will try to give somewhat of a review after a few days of playing around with it

Edit: Gentlemen, Chernobyl-1's outer casing and reactor core setup is complete. Suitable ore is being refined and purified and hopefully it will be online by tomorrow

:haha: Alright maybe the name was a little bit pretentious..

On the first full scale trial Chernobyl-1 ran without a hitch, BUT it had a nasty habit of blowing up whatever it was powering :har: After putting on HV-transformers there were no more explosions, but somehow the machines weren't receiving power. At this point I checked the wiring within the reactor and noticed a lot of smoke coming out from it so I had to scram the reactor...

Waiting now for it to cool off and such.

On another note, Quarry machines, + alot of redstone engines make for very easy Uranium finding.

Oberons farm/collective is nearly ready for business. It's your one stop shop for just about everything you need. Wheat, Cactai (or Cacti), Pumpkins, Melons, Cows, Pigs, Sheep, Chickens, Wood or Mushrooms, we aim to have it all (so long as I can catch the bloody Sheep, Chickens, and Pigs). And it's all free, take as much as you want, whenever you want. The only rule is...IF YOU TAKE IT, PUT IT BACK. If you harvest it, plant some more seeds, if you kill it, make the others reproduce, so that there will always be some for everyone. There's a limit of five animals per enclosure (due to RSPCA legislation...and not wanting to steal all the animals from the server) so if you by chance happen to put back six, then you're welcome to kill it to make it a nice five.

Anyway, here's a picture of what is where (or will be, in the case of the chickens, sheep and pigs):

In case some of you are thinking of using the Technic Pack, please note that it includes (from what I've figured out...) Better then Wolves, Industrial Craft, Buildcraft, a redstone mod which I can';t think of the name (VERY HANDY MOD), a minimap mod, Millenaire, a midieval minecraft mod, mo'creatures, equivilent exchange mod, as well as a few others I can't identify....

The casings for reactors Chernobyl-2 and Chernobyl-3 has been completed. Scram systems have been successfully integrated into the system and have been tested to function in theory.

Chernobyl-3 has just finished a short run up test producing 100,000 EUs in about 5 minutes (guesstimation..) and the SCRAM systems, as well as its surrounding coolants were adequate to the task.

I'm not sure of the Mark: designation of its internal components, so I'll edit this when I figure out what it is, but it seems more or less stable. No smoke after a short period of time like Chernobyl-1 (and no resulting crater :oops:) Also, Uranium Processing Plant-1 has been successfully build and is up and running.

Now to start trying to weaponize my Uranium and these damn Millenaire villages won't ever think of crowding my reactor space again! :arrgh!:

Somewhat, it had the odd lines, but I had about 3 layers of Reinforced Stone surrounding the reactor chambers so it was dulled down a tad.

I could try that, the only issue with using water buckets to cool your reactor is that, once your reactor goes over a certain heat level, the water is used up and it knocks down the heat something like 500points. But, you can only stack one bucket per slot in the reactor. So as soon as it's used up, you need to manually replace it. However, coolant cells and ice for example last longer and, in the case of ice, you can stack them 64 per slot.

It's all really a question of juggling things and playing a game of trade-offs. I got lucky and ran into a few fairly large uranium vains early on so I'm not too worried about building some super duper efficient reactor. All I'm really trying to do right now is make a reactor that's fairly stable, produces a decent amount of power, and won't atomize me when it gets tempermental :haha:

Well, for every open air cube within a 3x3 area gives 0.1 cooling per block, but for water (still or running) within a 3x3 block around the reactor you get 1 extra cooling (I'm currently using this system).

When I update my Technic pack I want to try something that, if I'm right will allow fully functional submarines in Minecraft!

Unless there's been some major updates to the Zeppelin mod, then no, you can't
make submarines. They just fill with water. :shifty:

Also, the water blocks wouldn't be re-placed after stopping and moving again
with your sub, so after awhile the sea would be just one big whirlpool.

Alright so it may not be possible to create and drive a submarine per se. But with a handy item from the Equivilent Exchange mod it is possible to stay under water indefinitely. Thus, though your sub may be a tad damp, you will still be able to submerge, surface and generally just sail it around the MC world.

I may have found a larger Nether Dungeon near the terminus for NetherRail. I'll build a path out to it and see what I can find. It seems that the base ingredient for potions is NetherWart so hopefully I can find some and we can start a farm somewhere in the Nether (only grows on soulsand in the nether).

That's fine, my base is on top of a massive abandoned mineshaft so I'm swimming in Iron.

It runs for 500 blocks in the Nether so it should definitely put us into new chunks in the overworld.

Access is through the portals at either my place or TF's as they both connect to the same Nether Portal.

No exit portal yet, I'm going to finish making the route safe, and tracking it before starting construction on that.

I didn't exactly Pay for it. Netherrack is pretty easy on picks and half the track came from the mineshafts anyway, plus it's given me a dump for my spare cobble.

I just need to install the boosters and light the portal and the route is done. Booster Track and Redstone torches are in the chest at the start but I forgot to take a minecart with me so I couldn't test it.

There is also a side-passage from the terminus to the nether dungeon, it's huge. I lit up two Blaze spawners in there and found a small amount of Nether Wart which is now growing in a farm by the start of the railway.

BTW if Task Force is going XP hunting again, tell him to hunt Fire Slimes, I gained 2 levels by killing one large slime.

Go to your /minecraft file, go to the bin/ file and there will be a minecraft.jar AFAIK you just save that over (so that the altered files are melded with regular 1.8.1 files and your at 1.9. From there I believe there are 2 or 3 patches that need to be applied over 1.9.

Alternatively you can come to the dark side and play 1.7.3 Technic pack v3.1 which is a mind blowing experience.

Anybody else getting massive framerate issues in PR4? It seems that after a while FPS locks onto the amount of chunk updates. Both have the same number. And it dives into the single digits, often below 5 (FPS). Pretty much unplayable for me.

Oh and if you want to decorate your house with mob spawners, the
Silk Touch enchantment allows to mine them. This will be fixed in the future, so

Memory aplenty. CPU usage has been climbing since 1.8 though, but I doubt there's anything players can do to really challenge the hardware; pretty well tested at this point.

In other news, the green stuff from THE END currently mines as cobblestone. If you happen to find yourself in THE END, then there's a little 1 square portal on the ground next to the obsidian pillar you spawn on, jump into that and it'll take you into the Nether where you can escape to the standard world.

I've managed to successfully link up to my old portal in the north, which used to be in the east.

Half way along the line is a Nether Fortress I have to explore. Even better there is another one at the end of the line. Except I have to build a bridge to it which will take some time because of the Ghasts more powerful attacks which can destroy most types of blocks now.

Vertical Water physics are different. (Not sure if bug or otherwise)
Not a clue what that means.

Anyway, had to go with pre-release to fix the XP bug. This one actually cut CPU use by a factor of 10, so I'd say it was the right choice.

BTW, you can make infinite lava pools in 1.9.5, make a 3x3 + and put lava everywhere but the center, then just pull lava from the center. :up:

End is broken. There's just the obsidian platform and no terrain... And the portalling trick sends you to a new Nether gate away from the current system, returning to the overworld through that puts you at x:1500, but there is a village you can hide in at x:1177 z:106.

Well, Jeb seems to have added a bug in PR6: unable to open doors by hand. So you require redstone. I'd say that is quite annoying for existing worlds with doors.

No wonder I always end up in some cave. :haha:Actually, I found it almost immediately. My underground wheatfarm stood out like a cat's eye in the the tunnels. I can't believe I missed it. Been running around searching there all over the place.

Between the 2 deserts to the right of Arclights tower (sunset is up on the map), it's the pit-area near the small lava patch (surface lava). In the swampy area above it there are 2 wellheads or drill-structures on either side of the river. The signs didn't say who made it.

Righto, gonna make the usual Sunday backup in a moment, and I'll let it generate a new map after that. We'll do another grace period without mobs, say 'till noon tomorrow.


And er... a few words;

I think a "problem" we are having is too much focus on building something impressive. At least, it's something I run into after a while: You start off making something out of nescesity, but once you are settled in comfortably, the focus shifts towards building for the sake of it, just to make something pleasing to the eye. Often it ends up driving someone to build bigger and bigger, inevitably getting burned out on the seemingly never-ending task.

I think that's not really what the game is about. It's part of it, certainly, but especially now there's more beyond that. I'm hoping we can stick more closely together this time around, and at least focus out initial efforts into establishing some "roots" in a town/city/stronghold/what-have-you. Perhaps even several, using nether-routes to connect them together.

It's not a directive of course, everyone is free to do as they please, but it's certainly more in the spirit of a multi-player game: to play together.

For the competitive individuals we might put up a colosseum. :hmmm:



Also, if everyone agrees, I suppose mods are doable. But I'm really not familiar with the scene for MC so you'll have to fight it out amongst yourselves. :P

Alright, the sheep field now has several sheep, it's free to use and there is wheat in a chest nearby for use.

There are some rules that I would like followed:
1. Breed the sheep before you shave them
2. As sheep do not regrow hair(1.1 will fix this), kill off the sheep after their numbers start getting past 10.
3. Try and keep 2 of each colored sheep in the field. I'm going to have to experiment more, but so far sheeps take on their parents color. If we keep 2 white sheep and 2 black sheep will be able to continue making white wool.

4. Not really a rule, but important none-the-less, after a sheep has a baby it'll follow the baby around. They wont breed if they're following a baby, to break this throw an egg or a snow ball or even just punch sheep to brake the bond.

Just a quickie from me, the five pillars of earth with torches on top (possibly four pillars if Spike has used the rest of his TNT to level the hillside) is claimed by myself, there will be a nice elevated Steampunkish railway station there, it should be high enough that people can build low down stuff underneath somehow...not quite sure how it's going to work yet. Will have to look it all over.

Also, someone should build a warehouse for the community goods. :yep:

Should be OK now. And yeah, if you base it off actual terrain coverage there should be a direct relation. World folder does contain some extra bits not related to terrain though.

Also, Mojang updated some of their database servers (or whatever it does, according to the Minecraft loader app), so the account authentication was down around GMT noon today.

It would have been possible to play if the subsim server was set to offline play allowed. But I'm sure Arc won't allow that.

Yes. The Dragond is easy as hell. As long as you wear ANY armor, it can't hurt
you. I do believe all 3 stronholds spawn 1 dragon, so I can mark and post coordinates to them when I kill more Enders (you can go thru to End via my portal). :up:

Dunno, haven't checked that. It can still knock you back and you have to destroy
all the crystals on top of the towers so the dragon can't regen health.

Ok I got this game like a couple of weeks ago. Yall are killing me here bc I have played for 2 weeks and have found all of 1 diamond square all game, not a single glowstone, and am kind of frustrated because there are some really useful mods out there - but I can't get em working.

Any of you willing to help a minecraft noob out?

I've found the best place to mine for diamonds is y=12. That way you are just
above the underground lava lakes, so there's no danger of flooding your shaft
with that stuff. Glowstone can only be found in the Nether.

As for mods, usually there is somekind of instructions on how to install them. :hmmm:

Thanks Dowly! I have seen the y=12 elsewhere - but the shaft w/ trees to the side every third block yielded no results for me every time I have tried it. I know Diamond is supposed to be between y10 and y14, but I found mine on y6. One measely block! Have tried on numerous worlds too....

The mod I wanted to use will get me past this difficulty - but I believe I found a way to install it. The one I wanted didnt work - but found "Finder Compass" and it has a video and a readme!

OK guys - I need abit more help. I got this for my son as well. I started a server for he and I to just play around on together. However, I have run into a really weird problem. He can connect fine and I see him in game and interacting with objects (he killed a zombie right at the start) but he cannot collect anything. He chops down a tree, the block disappears for a second, then returns and he doesnt get a block of wood. If he digs in dirt right below him, he falls down into the hole but gets no dirt block. If the block is now where he is standing - it comes back after a second. My player collects just fine.

I am wondering if this could be a latency issue - since I am running the server on my machine - and he is connecting wirelessly to me through my lan. Wired isn't an option for me, so I am hoping that there may be some play in the latency tolerance for Minecraft server.

Or have you guys seen this before and its just something lame I didn't set up right? Thanks!

Is he connecting to the external IP or the internal? I had a similar problem(had troubles even getting everyone to join) while hosting Terraria(different game, I know) on LAN, until I realized that everything worked fine using Internal IP's.

He is connecting through the local (192.xxx.xxx.xxx) address. Nothing is pointing outside the local network. Its also "spotty" - sometimes it works fine for him, others it doesnt (we have been trying to troubleshoot it). The more I see of it - the more I think latency.

Could be lag, but it could also be he is trying to dig in an "admin area" where players who aren't admins cannot place or destroy/collect blocks.

Might be a combination of latency, packet loss and low server tick-rate. Wired, dedicated machine would be ideal for hosting.


What are the specs of the machine your hosting on? CPU use when hosting and you're both playing? Particularly note peak use on individual cores.

Good points - will have to check later today when he is home from school.

As for the specs of the machine, its a Phenom 2 955 (3.2 Ghz) running 8Gigs of memory. OS is 7 pro x64. It should have the horsepower. Could be that Java isn't allocating itself enough memory - can fix that. Also haven't checked cores - I assumed it was taking advantage of them all, but I know what assuming does.

Let me get back to you later today with some results.
