Anybody experiencing flickering oreblocks? Not all ores, just the new ones. Xy-craft stuf. Etho has it too in his Mindcraft FTB episodes.

[EDIT]With or without using OptiFine_1.4.6_HD_U_B4.

Any solution?

I suspect that it's Mystcraft, I have two worlds running, and it tends to crash when I'm in them.

Might suggest that a new server is put up with the mod pack we intend to run (presuming there is no objections) with creative mode for a few days and then a restart with normal mode, providing it doesn't all fall over.

Make sure you match that in the launcher, fails to connect otherwise.

I'll crank the CPU to 11 soonish to help cope with strain, hopefully Friday/weekend.

Plan is to run it for a week or so like that. Kinda need people to go nuts with machines and redstone, stuff like that. Nuking it really doesn't put a dent in anything apart from lag from flowing water.

Well, I have a little industrial facility set up on a nearby island which is geared towards harvesting the oil from a nearby oil rig and converting it into fuel.
Using a steam boiler to attempt to power some steam engines to power the refinery but the damn steam engines keep exploding. Railcraft needs to invent the safety valve and fast! :nope:

You did check how expensive the stuff is to make, right? I mean, by the time

I've managed to settle in alright since I ended up here. I still don't know how, but it doesn't seem like there's an easy way back home. My primitive shelter keeps growing and it's feeling pretty homey now. There certainly doesn't seem to be a shortage of resources in these strange lands.

But something's changed... The villagers seem more nervous, keeping close track of the time of day and seemingly hiding at night. As soon as the sun sets, the villages go dark and silent.

Last night I heard noises at the door and on the roof. When I went to check this morning I found scorch marks all around my shelter, and there was a giant spider on the roof. It was rather docile though; seems hard to believe the chittering on the roof was coming from this creature.

You will need the Crescent Hammer (http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Crescent_Hammer), which allows you to shift+click break

I called dibs on the oilwell on the mainland near my place. But Spike settled near there also. So we might need to come to an arrangement of mutual use. But I am nowhere near ready to start using it. Mostly to take load of the server. This isn't a $2000,- blade neatly tucked in an air conditioned datacenter plugged into fiber optic.

Particularly Thaumcraft seems rather intensive, since it affects the whole world by default. We also kinda decided against the more "magical" mods, sticking with a more industrial theme.

Before I can get an enderfarm going, you can use the EnderStarer 2000.

Just stand on the cobblestone and stare away.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/enderstarer.jpg

Also, I start updating the first post with Enderchest colors for different players.
Best way to keep track of them is for every player to use a different color
as the first of the three colors you can mark your Enderchest with, so let me
know when you make a chest and I'll update the post.

For example, I chose the color red, so my chests will be RED, white, white
or RED, orange, green and so on.

Also, about the Thermal Expansion Tesseracts:

!!WARNING!!

Right now there is a Bug in Buildcraft which causes Minecraft to crash if 2 Item Tesseracts that are linked feed into each other with one buildcraft pipe inbetween. This will corrupt your save until you change the Tesseract ID and therefore delete the block.

Made a tweak; you can add more sounds to the IC2 Nuclear Control howler alarm, but it requires some tinkering with its .cfg. Aparently if the server list doesn't match the client list nothing will show in the alarm window at all* (see edit on the bottom). No other issues aparently, but there's that.

So, I'd ask people do a little tinker in IC2 NC .cfg...

Default line:
S:allowedAlarms=default,sci-fi

Add:
,beep,bell,default2,klaxon,klaxon2,MWAlarm,nuclear-alarm,OVER9000,sweep,CustomAlarm

which makes:

The sounds used are on the IC2 NC thread, near the bottom: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=5915

Note that "CustomAlarm" needs to be renamed to "alarm-CustomAlarm" or it will crash the client; any soundbite for that needs to start with "alarm-".

I'm open to adding more if people desire.

*EDIT: actually in my infinite wisdom I didn't do it properly server-side. Tl;dr this is entirely optional. It will work fine if you don't, but you need those changes to use other sounds than the stock ones.
Currently the server allows the following:

default,sci-fi,beep,bell,default2,klaxon,klaxon2,MWAlarm,nucle ar,OVER9000,sweep,CustomAlarm

Name of the sound should match the one in the list with "alarm-" appended to the front.

S:allowedAlarms=default,sci-fiAdd:
,beep,bell,default2,klaxon,klaxon2,MWAlarm,nuclear-alarm,OVER9000,sweep,CustomAlarm

which makes:
S:allowedAlarms=default,sci-fi,beep,bell,default2,klaxon,klaxon2,MWAlarm,nucle ar-alarm,OVER9000,sweep,CustomAlarmThe sounds used are on the IC2 NC thread, near the bottom: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=5915

Note that "CustomAlarm" needs to be renamed to "alarm-CustomAlarm" or it will crash the client; any soundbite for that needs to start with "alarm-".

As usual.

It corrupted a core file in either .Net Framework or Visual C++ which effectively knocked out every 32-bit program on the computer.

The solution was to uninstall both of those and then reinstall, but the windows installer was also corrupted.

18 hours later I finish an "in-place upgrade" effectively a repair install by upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 7. And I get a BSOD on launch.

Some Googling and one Ultimate Boot CD for Windows session later and I might have rescued it. Just as I was starting to price up new Hard Drives.

My Room digging program Mk3

This doesn't use the Lua interface. Write it by doing edit <programName>

Place the Turtle in the Front Left Bottom Corner of the room you want it to dig

Call the program by <programName> length width height

Known bugs:

It will refuel on first call of the program, it will consume all fuel given and complain it's out of fuel, run it again and it should work.

Returns are potentially blocked by Gravel

Only digs up not down.

local tArgs = {...}
if #tArgs ~= 3 then

I'll follow suit with RC1.1.

Pair of programs, one for a turtle to be controlled remotely, one for the computer controlling it.

1. Plonk the turtle down and run the program for it. Note the ID it gives you.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj2/EZatHome/2013-02-10_025003_zps0852b3cc.jpg

2. Run the program for the terminal and type in the ID.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj2/EZatHome/2013-02-10_025032_zps5214c8dc.jpg

I'm still tinkering with it, adding more functionality. For now there's the shown options for direct control and the option to run programs like you would normally, when typing directly on the turtle (like "tunnel 25" of "refuel").

The 'Serum?' tab is basically the "Ok, I got that bee" tab, but I'm using serums
so that's why I put it that way.

The 'Trait Serum' tab is for when you start playing around with isolating
different traits from the bees.

Right, here's the automated pure-bred bee system I'm using:
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/automated_bees.jpg

How it works:
1. Queen poops out drones and combs
2. Autarchic gate pulls them out from the apiary, AP sorts them
3. Pure-bred bees will try to go back to the Apiary, which only allows 1 drone and 1 princess. The drones that can't fit in, go to the yellow route.
*Make sure you tell the pure-bred route which species of bee the apiary breeds. This is done in the AP GUI.*

It's a good and compact system for mass producing bees for liquid DNA/combs.
Also, easily expanded:
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/automated_bees_2.jpg

Why the heck is Photobucket resizing them?

So far I've charted great frozen wastelands to the north, and the Dead Marshes to the North-west. A new Black Mesa for Keab in the +88 -600 region, near a jungle with a village perched in the middle of it. I say perched because it's on about three different levels, the Testificates have outdone themselves with this one. I found a village that seems to be inhabited mainly by Ocelots who seem to keep damaging themselves on something....ah, it's Quicksand, watch out for that.

Ok, I stand corrected, the Testificates have outdone themselves at -835 +108. They've attempted to recreate Atlantis...

Mk 4 Turtle code. Coming to a disc near you:

Still has the fuel bug, but I think I've sorted the gravel-return bug.

local tArgs = {...}

end
if x < 0 or y < 0 or z < 0 then
print("Invalid (negative) dimensions")
return end

local fuel = turtle.getFuelLevel()
local roomSize = x * y * z
while fuel < roomSize do
if not turtle.refuel(1) then
print("Not enough fuel")
return
end
end
local direction = true
for i = 1, z do
for j = 1, y do

So, Arclight, Task Force and I were talking last night about how to spark some life back into the minecraft world. I think we agreed that the problem was running out of inspiration, and not even mods can help that. So how do we address this? Here were some of the ideas put forward last night:

1) A challenge
Arclight suggested a series of challenges. For example, the first challenge might be to build a castle, and the best one wins the round, and then another challenge might be to build a skyscraper. Of course, it would need to be fleshed out a little bit more before implementing, for example who decides the challenges, who judges the winners, etc.

2) A communal build
I suggested a communal build, similar to City 19 but with a few key differences. For example, everything would go into a communal warehouse, there would be a mine nearby which everyone would use, a farm which would be used to send stuff to a bakery which people could get free food from, etc. A theme would be decided on (like City 19s was a Japanese theme) and the players houses built to this theme and then other buildings made to a similar theme.

3) Migration
There's always the option of the group of us migrating to another already populated server and setting up our own little town there. I would suggest Rock, Paper, Shotguns server, primarily because a) it has a realtime map (http://urps-minecraft.co.uk/map/), b) it has a lot of original infrastructure in place and c) I've already got the beginnings of a village/town in place with a mine and some crops (North-west of Nyan Cat Bay, -2387, 65, 1314) which we could start in. Obviously though this is a last case sort of thing, I don't want to move but it's an idea so I shall put it out there.

4) Different mods
This is a bit of a bandaid solution really, because even with a different mod setup we're still going to suffer from inspiration burnout, although one could combine a different mod setup with a challenge or with a communal project perhaps. Again, another idea to throw out there.

Anyone else got any ideas they want to throw out, please do.

Arclight
06-16-13, 11:06 AM
I'm taking the server down for a bit, partly from lack of use but also since I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with the Arma server. Java tends to take up a large portion of CPU time which might be causing trouble with scripts.

It's by no means the end of it, just a pause while we figure out where to take it.

Also, to clarify, a community challenge doesn't have to be a contest. The idea is simply to set a common goal. I figured it might help people that don't know what to do anymore (like me) focus their thoughts on something specific, rather than trying to come up with something from practically limitless possibilities.

Task Force
06-20-13, 10:07 PM
I kinda lost the want to play after the great peat disappearance of 2013 which destroyed my power making ability. I would like to keep some of the current mods, and add new ones, maybe one of the different FTB packs? With more in it (applied energistics maybe) or some of the magic mods (Thaumcraft for instance).

I think a big issue with MC now is distance between players, I personally cant play stock or single player MC, as I get board of it quick, since there's no one else nearby to try to out build, or get ideas off of.

Nagy
06-22-13, 12:07 PM
I built far too far out last time.

I've definitely got some ideas I want to try out with Applied Energistics, and I think I've got a good plan for a turtle-based quarrying system that I might try out in Single Player.

I do miss the days of City 19 and the community build.

Oberon
06-22-13, 01:22 PM
Arclight put forward the proposition that we construct our own modpack, and then I recommend we set to on a communical city.

So, three things need to be decided forthwith!

1) What mods to use?

2) What style to build the city in?

3) What name for the city?

Oberon
06-22-13, 01:51 PM
Here's my thoughts to the above questions:

1)

IC2
BC
Railcraft
Jammys Furniture Mod
Mo' Creatures (with hostile mobs such as Ogres off and the mob spawn rate decreased [in testing I've found it a tad high])
Dynamic Lights
Computercraft
Applied Energistics
InvTweaks
Treecapitator
Balkons weaponmod
Bibliocraft
Botanymod
Reis minimap
Growthcraft
Jaffas and more!
Mob amputation
NotEnoughItems

(links on this list - http://modlist.mcf.li/list/1.5/1.5.2.php)

Most of these mods add things like flowers, and food and the such, so that things like bakeries and that can be made and be useful rather than just eye-candy. The furniture mod is just lovely and what minecraft has been needing for ages.

2) A tough choice, part of me wants to say Industrial, but another part quite likes the idea of Steampunk Japanese.

3) I think it has to be City 20 or if we're going Steampunk Japanese then perhaps Hatachi Edo.

Nagy
06-22-13, 03:07 PM
I'd add Misc Peripherals to that list as it adds some useful stuff for Turtles, but I notice it doesn't seem to be available for 1.5 :(

I still like Forestry because with Tree Farms we can set up a nice renewable power supply once we've bred walnuts or chestnuts which should take Dowly about 2 hours.

I would definitely add Thermal Expansion. Some of the stuff it adds is very useful.

I also like extra biomes mods (Extra Biomes XL is nice). Unless they add too much strain on the server.

Hopefully Red Power will be out for 1.5 soon, as will Xycraft (I really like some of the blocks and machines that it adds).

Oberon
06-22-13, 05:54 PM
The only reason I didn't put extra biomes in the list was that I figured we wouldn't be moving out that far from our city limits to warrant that much in the way of biome creation.

For the city style, why don't we break it into regions? industrial, residential, and maybe some stores.

I agree with Keab about TE and Forestry, XYcraft would be nice too for its tanks and stuff.

Oberon
06-23-13, 06:59 AM
That's a good idea TF. I'll also back the idea of XYcraft, but it's a case of waiting for the update.

As it stands, I have a 'pack' of sorts put together, using MultiMC, there's a few clashes within it though, for example the crops for Growthcraft and Jaffamod don't seem to be appearing on the map, and I think that I might drop Botanymod because it goes a bit overkill with the flowers, as nice as it would be to be able to get glowstone without having to venture into the Nether and dance with Ghasts.

So I'll do some tweaking today and see if I can get them to merge together a bit.

EDIT: Okies, I've pulled Jaffamod, Botany and XtraBiomes, Botany spammed the landscape with flowers, which whilst pretty, was not particularly neat, Jaffamod didn't seem to work properly and XtraBiomes, while nice, seem a bit superfluous to our needs for this map. I'm packing it together and sending it to Arc to do a test server, I will also PM the link to TF and Nagy and if anyone else wants a link then please PM me.
It's strongly recommended to use MultiMC to use this collection (http://forkk.net/MultiMC4.html) as it makes installation, usage and modification much easier without constantly having to reinstall MC and do other messy things with the coding.

Oberon
06-23-13, 01:04 PM

That's an impressive mod selection.

I might be tempted to turn off MineFactory Reloaded. Its machines duplicate a lot of what is available in other mods. It has some cool stuff, but not sure it adds anything to the IC/BC/TE/Forestry combo.

Unless you really want to move things by conveyor belt...

Metallurgy seems to add far more ores that I would know what to do with.

Oberon

I'm not fussed to see those go, I'm really there for the railcraft and furniture mods, those are good.

Been bashing it a bit on SSP, it's quite nice so far. Been using Matmos too, recommend it, adds quite a lot to the audio background.

Arc said he's going to put a server up at some point soon, so the first job will be to locate good ground for the city, somewhere flat preferably. Then it'll be building the workers lodge, then creating a mine and so on.

We need to check if Dynamic Lighting is client or server-side. Could be a resource hog if it's server-side.

Also Arc, you might want to turn off Immibi's Dimensional Anchors, as they're just chunk loaders.

Arclight
06-26-13, 05:44 AM
Right, sorted. Maybe. My launcher is borked so I can't check it.

Oh, had to toss Tubestuff since that relies on some Immibi thing. And I'm assuming dynamic lighting stuff doesn't affect the server on account of it not rendering anything. It affecting the server would be... retarded, frankly.

2: Right of the download server button, pull down the list and select 6.3 modpack version.

3: launch the game once to download the modpack and do initial configuration

4: close the game

5: Click the edit Modpack button

6: On the Mods tab disable:
Metallurgy 3.0.0.0.10.7
Meteors Mod V2.10.2
millenaire5.0.0
MineFactoryReloaded-2.6.2-924
traincraft-4.0.0_035

[EDIT]Important. To be able to connect to the MP server, and have tin and copper ore generated in SP worlds, do this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2076728&postcount=4488)

7: launch the game

8: Yawn.

9: Yawn some more.

10: Fall asleep... might as wel be starting up SH3 GWX3 for these loading times.

11: Punch wood.

Note that these are different versions than previously mentioned. But it seems to have worked.

Also the Immibis-mods or whatever can stay in the client. Not sure it Arc was talking only about server side mods needing to be disabled.

As it works, it works!

If you're joining in the city project, there is something in the bunkhouse that will help you build things quickly.

I've coded up a building Turtle.

Just place it on the bottom left hand corner of the structure you want to build.

Put coal in the first slot and enough materials in the remaining 15 slots.

If your building requires more than 960 blocks you'll need to do it in stages.

It will build the walls, and then place a flat roof on the final layer.

Run the command buildRoom length width height

So for instance to make a hut that has a 7 x 7 x 4 internal space I would run the command buildRoom 9 9 5

I will also put the program on a disc in case anybody wants to copy it to more turtles, but for now please return the turtle to where you found it before you log off so that others can use it.

Anyone else find apatite? Is it even spawning.

According to forestry's config it should be spawning, but haven't seen any either. :hmmm:

We can spawn it in manually, I'd rather not start another world again because of one ore.

Anyway, Day two/three and here's how the city looks so far:

Visible is the Bunkhouse, Nether-gate, Keabs turtle-test-house, my factory and Task Forces work of modern art.

Oh, and Dowly, I stumbled across your place whilst hunting squid, went through your gate and promptly got stuck because a Ghast decided to blow out the portal. So, I dug a route through the Nether to our portal, got a flint and steel, and came back to re-light it. So there's now a safe route from your portal to ours in the Nether. Well...safe-ish...

Love the epic tree by the way. :yep:

Hehe, yeah the tree is pretty cool. For the longest time I thought it was one of
the redpower2 rubber trees, but then I remembered we dont have RP2.
It's just a huge oak, never seen one of those.

Apparently apatite only spawns above level 60..
