The Hood has lost it's decking, and I suspect the tube line won't reach Mkeab again. Certainly all the work I did on a new tube line from Mkeab's is gone.

Merdé

EDIT: Yeah, the line between Gerekes and mkeabs is gone. I can put it back though, it's not a major problem.

The Hood...well...I think I'm going to admit defeat on that one. It's not a project I think I can do justice to, to be honest.

Anyone know if it's possible (and if so, how?) to downgrade to the 'free

It had that "something" the newer versions seem to lack. :yep:

Clever move. Makes Notch look light-hearted towards these things (which I'm
sure he is) and if Bethesda declines/ignores (which I'm sure they will) the challenge,
it makes them look like dicks in the eyes of gamers (not that they aren't bit of
a dicks already). :hmmm:

Appropriate response to such a ridiculous lawsuit I'd say. :haha:

I understand they need to defend their trademarks, but 'Scrolls' vs 'The elder scrolls'? Bit of a stretch imho. :hmmm:

Comes in at the same level of ridiculous as that Tim Langdell fellow and his suing and trademarking practices.

Etho's Light Sensor Tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVWndB7k4bQ

This tutorial demonstrates and teaches you how to build a Light Sensor. This
can be used to detect day and night cycles as a redstone signal.

The Light Sensor is built from 3 main components. A piston is used to control
killing grass during the night, and growing grass during the day. A redstone
BUD Switch is used to detect grass growing and dying. A T-FlipFlop memory
unit keeps track of the day and night cycle.

If it rains during the day, the Light Sensor will still detect it as being day,
despite the darker conditions.

Impressive. :yeah:

I must admit I've kinda lost enthusiasm now that a month's worth or work has been unravelled. I'd been very busy in that month, and with the prospect on 1.8 in another month, I'm not sure I want to spend the time just getting back to where I was for it to all end again.

Maybe we could have a new map for a month, we could focus on only making a community project near to the op-only area and just mess about for a bit.

Mmm... got bored with the SMP, now playing solely SSP for the time being.
Need to see how 1.8 is and whether I return to SMP or not.

Started with the Better than Wolves mod, which I have to say, was a disappointing.
Takes too much time and effort to make the things and on top of that, you can
run most of the machines manually with the crank, so there's really no need
for the windmill or the waterwheel.

-------------

Last week, installed the 1.0 YogBox finally and a lesser man would break down
and cry at this point looking back it's pure awesomeness. :wah: It's best described as Minecraft's The Grey Wolves. :yeah:

The adventure bit of the game has seen huge chances with the YB. Now,
you actually have proper underground ruins with staircases, corridors, halls, hidden passages etc.
And those things just go on and on for miles. (little tidying and you got yourself
an underground base. :yep:) The treasures are actual something to look for
now, the best ones I've found have contained 1-2 diamonds blocks, iron blocks
gold blocks etc.

The RPG mod balances the treasures out, as you need to level up your crafting
to be able to use the spoils (think it's lvl30 for diamond tools). Also, the RPG
system gives you perks when you hit certain levels, f.e. reaching lvl25 in
mining gives you a 2% chance to get 2 blocks when mining something.

New mobs of course, most seen are the elemental Creepers, f.e. fire creeper
lights it's surroundings on fire when it explodes.

New items and ores are very welcome and there's tons of them, all more or
less useful to something.

What else... well the game is a tad scary again, with only 5 hearts to start
with, you need to move pretty darn carefully (and jump and scream like a
little girl when you hear skeleton firing an arrow from somewhere :haha:).

Then there's this SOMETHING I encountered when returning to my mining
hub from a dungeon, on the other side of the room I saw that white sparkly
effect you see when mob dies, was a bit baffled by it, but thought it was a
bug or something. Continued to walk forward and out of nowhere this THING
came right next to me and let out a screeching scream (think witch from L4D),
killing me instantly (was down to 1 heart, tho). It was at the edge of the
screen and it happened so fast, that I couldn't get a good look at it, but it
gave me a pretty good jump. :O:

YB is probably the most kickass mod compilation on MC I've yet played. Really nice to hear you're enjoying it Dowly. Do you know how the mob killed you? Did it just bump into you like a skelly or zombie? Or did it go kaboom?

And also that's really sad to hear that Better Then Wolves isn't as good as you thought it would be. I'm kind of hoping that since the Yogscast showcased the mod on YT that they'll get permission to add it to the YogBox. That, to me, would make MC amazing.

I have no idea, I died instantly due to low health. Did some digging and the mob
was most probably a "Screamer", green armored dude that can turn invisible.

I'd welcome it too, but on it's own, it just doesn't feel necessary. I mean,
90% of the stuff you get with BtW is there just to automate something you
can do manually. And considering the work involved in building an windmill,
it just isn't worth it. I liked the light/lamp blocks, tho. :yep:

Dowly

And that'd be the part 1 of the 1.8. IIRC, Notch said in the video where he

Krauter
09-02-11, 11:48 AM
Aah ok, I was more concerned whether it was the 8th of September or October, like I said, haven't been reading the Twitter updates.

Also, I did hear that earlier Dowly. Something that the basics were going to be released in 1.8 and then the entire adventure patch thing, would be released in pt II.

One thing that is sort of starting to bother me, as some have stated in the MC forums, is that, after looking at all the amazing mind-blowing mods (f. ex.: those that Dowly posts :yeah: ), I have to wonder at how Notch and an entire team of developers has only come up with what we have to date. And mind you, I don't want to appear ungrateful to his work and everything, I love MC as it is and I'll probably keep playing this game til my computer won't run it anymore, but it's just something that I had read earlier and only really thought about til now.

Just mentioned to Crécy today that Notch and co. have a lot to do, if they want
to top what we have now with mods. The YogBox being a prime example.
It's just so darn good and already has many of the features that 1.8 is expected

to the world generator are probably my most anticipated feature. :hmmm:

Fair enough. :haha:

It's usually when the creepiness is "dispelled" though; as soon as you realise they're not that hard to kill, they don't pose as much of a threat. Amnesia doesn't have combat for that reason: since your only options are to run and hide, people react far more fearfull to the creature prowling about.

BTW, JSGME works like a charm if you want to keep your 1.7.3 and easily switch
around between it and 1.8

1. Install JSGME and have it make a shortcut to your desktop
2. Go to the properties of the shortcut and change the "start in" line to point
to the directory .minecraft is in (WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data)
3. Run JSGME once so it creates the MODS folder to the above directory
4. Make new folders to the MODS folder for the versions you want, f.e. I have "Stock 1.7.3", "1.7.3 YogBox" and "Pre-1.8" folders
5. Make a clean install of your MC
6. Copy the clean 1.7.3 .minecraft folder to the "Stock 1.7.3" one in MODS folder
7. Add whatever mod you want to the original .minecraft, then copy it to a new folder in MODS
8. Make clean install, add another mod, copy it again to a new folder in MODS
9. Repeat for as many mods you want
10. Delete the original .minecraft folder (to make sure no files are left behind that might mess something up)
11. Enable version of your choosing via JSGME and play.

I hope that was as confusing as possible. :O:

What do we want to do with the server now? There's a possible release today of 1.8, at least an update for pre-release. Let the overlap world run for a bit longer, or go with 1.8?

We'll probably need a new world again with 1.9, so any new world at this point will just be another stopgap really. :hmmmm:

If you dont like spawning you dont have to use it. you can mine just like normal. Some things (like my nether temple) would have never been completed without spawning, as i use hundreds of gold blocks, and glowstone.

Well, no, sorry. I know if I allow spawning most will use it, and that simply makes it completely uninteresting for the minority that don't use it. :-?

My idea always was to host a survival server. The whole creative thing right now is really just to give people an oportunity to experiment and just go bonkers for a bit, it was never intended as a new "standard".

Easier to build big project on water, no need to level ground. ;)

Yeah, found 2 abandoned mines so far in our SMP world. The first I kinda
fell into, big crack on the surface that dropped me all the way to lvl12, luckily
there was some water to soften the landing. The second one is right under my

It's true, there is an over abundance of forests in 1.8.1, mostly completely decked out with vines but, do what I do, travel away from the forest to the nearest biome. You then have plenty of room and enough wood to last you a loooooong time.

I do think the trees have been 'overdone' a little but, like I said, there's away around it.

BTW, for the record, what's up with the enormo-trees? You know the ones that are so huge you can't reach the last wood block without a makeshift scaffold? Annoying much?

found total of 15-18 chests, countless number of spider spawners, few small
cave systems, yet the place just keeps on going. I dig out some gravel and
uncover another shaft, follow it and it branches to 2 more which branches to
2 more and on and on.

Just a note to GenoMariner,

I am going to "board' with you if that's ok, I just need to get started and gather enough food so when I go back to my mountain, I can feedmyself long enough to get a farm of my own started.

EVerything that I use or will use I will replace (such as your seeds). Basically all I plan on gathering near your place is seeds and wheat, as well as some wood so that I may begin making my own tools.

If you want me to leave just let me know.

Rather complex compared to a boosted minecart. We've had subways on our maps before. ;)

Now with the option to enable creative mode for a specific player it should be a lot more doable at that. No need for mods and blocks break with one hit. Guess that means you don't even need tools.

No we don't, wasn't even suggesting it. Yes we are close, and there's no telling how long it will run. Considering they only spilt some features off recently to form the 1.9 update, it's fair to assume they wanted that stuff out there already, and those features will therefore be implemented sooner rather than later.

Think the more sensible aproach here is to at least wait untill we know what the deal is with 1.9; whether it will take 2 weeks or 2 months, and if yet another new map would be required for the full release (2.0?).

The chunk around Zirrans building is currently affected by the XP bug. Anyone in it will suffer crippling lag which will make MC unplayable. I do not know if the bug disappears over time, however I think someone has to be in the chunk for 15 minutes or so to make the orbs disappear. How long it will take with the crippling lag I do not know, but until then I strongly advise that people stay in their safe areas and do not venture into Zirrans chunk.

Spike88

I'm also claiming the area south of me between my fort and the river. Going to expand that way as it is the least hilly.

Right, few words: the reason I pushed 1.9 on the server, despite it being a pre-release, is that we had the XP bomb bug looming constantly. Whenever someone died it could slow the server to a crawl. Turning off mobs solves that to a degree, but it's not going to stop anyone from falling down their fancy mile-high staircase. 1.9 was needed to restore mobs and, indeed, playability.

So how do you get it to 1.9 then? It's not exactly updating on its own. Well:

Minecraft Beta 1.9 prerelease can be found here, http://assets.minecraft.net/1_9-pre/minecraft.jar (http://assets.minecraft.net/1_9-pre/minecraft.jar) (server jar also available)

So you grab that and end up with a .zip file. Java can't work with that, it uses .jar files. So what you do is simply rename the file from "minecraft.zip" to "minecraft.jar".

Then you copy/move that into "c:\Users\*User*\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\". It should overwrite the minecraft.jar that's already in there.

Note that in that path, "*User*" refers to the account name you use on your PC. Also, the AppData folder is hidden by default, so you may need to enable the showing of hidden folders. You can do this under the "view" tab of the "folder options" window in the control panel.

Depends on what browser you use. If it's already a .jar, skip a step.
