Thanks RDP.
It's been a while since my last post, but I have been busy building a new computer and when I thought all was put together the right way, the LAN suddenly was'nt working:damn: after alot of frustration swithing drivers in Windows and trying alot of stuff I gave up and bought a new LAN card. New rig AMD X2 5200 and 800 mhz dualram, nice now SH4 is loading abit faster and with the gained knowledge from the addon about how the different files work in SH4, it's hard to stay away from modding ;)

Just a heads-up for users of ROW Sound Effects and RSRDC. RSRDC Phase III now ships with its own sh.sdl file to support the sounds of some aricraft added. It's ok to let it overwrite ROW's file, but if you want the tweaks that come with ROW (basically it's just modified behavior of how far the sound travels etc), uhm...I made a ROW Sounds+RSRDC Phase III-compatible file, but I forgot to bring it along to work and upload it! :damn: It will be up tomorrow, so the moderators can add it to the first ROW page, if they desire.

Meanwhile, this has been bugging me ever since I got the latest ROW updates:

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/438/sh4img20080203025844968zh1.jpg

Notice that the smoke isn't coming out of the funnel, but a bit to the front of it? I've only seen this in this ship (Large Modern Composite Freighter).

@ Dr. Beast here is a shot of the new moonlight without no clouds:

Ai caramba, that looks even darker! :D But I guess it looks brighter in-game, with gamma correction in place. I just processed a batch of pics I had taken the last couple of days, and I had to photoshop them to tune the brightness up! The pic below looked so dark unprocessed, I couldn't make heads or tails of it:

Ok...permission granted, ROW Special Effects for NSM4 is up!

ROW Special Effects For NSM4 Classic (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Special+Effects+For+Nczip/;9574925;/fileinfo.html)

ROW Special Effects For NSM4 Light (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Special+Effects+For+Ntzip/;9574927;/fileinfo.html)

-> If you're using ROW Special Effects for stock zones, REMOVE IT.

-> If you're using NSM4 Classic, download ROW Special Effects for NSM4 Classic

-> If you're using NSM4 Light, download ROW Special Effects for NSM4 Light

Installation instructions:

ONLY INSTALL WHEN IN PORT!

NSM4 FIRST
THEN ROW Special Effects!

WernerSobe states in his thread that NSM should be installed last, and he is correct in general. BUT ROW Special Effects is an exception to this rule. It already contains all the changes he has made to the Zones.cfg file, plus the effects of ROW.
So, when JSGME warns you that Zones.cfg has already been altered by NSM, it's perfectly safe to let it overwrite.

I hope this is clear enough. Instructions are also included in the Readme (which I advise you to read...it's called "readme" just for this reason ;))

Moderators, feel free to move this to the first ROW post, if you like. I don't want any credit whatsoever for this work...I feel it's the least I could do for this community.

hi all, i'm a newb at silent hunter 4 right now and i really want to download ROW but i'm not sure what files to get only because i do not want everything that row offers. what i'm primarily looking for are the fixes in light, ocean movement, environment, reflections - pretty much all the graphical fixes but not so much the new special effects (smoke, fire, oil).. i'd rather stick with the stock game special effects for now.

My thoughts exactly but, that is up to Kriller as he is taking it on from here. The thread for ROW will be Krillers to work and answer questions etc.

Let me know Kriller. What I will do is combine the original ROW with this thread so you can still edit the original post as you keep working on this.

1_TMaru_Trigger_Maru_1.7.6
2_TMaru_Sound
3_TMaru_GFX-ROW_Version_5
RSRDC TM version
Final Addon for Reflections On The Water
ROW Sound Effects vs_8
ROW NEW SeaFoam from Jaketoox
ROW NEW Clouds from Kriller2
ROW Main Load Screen

Trigger incorporates much of ROW, so I just added five files from it + RSRDC between the two as required.

Thanks to RDP from another thread (I couldnt be bothered retyping it, sorry)

:arrgh!:

I'm trying to get my game set up to run ROW and TM. I was using Archie's list above as a guide but when I try to add the following ROW components, I get a warning from JSGME that the TM mod has already modified files:

Addon for Reflections On The Water
ROW Sound Effects vs_8
ROW NEW Clouds from Kriller2

Should I go ahead and add the ROW components (ignore the warning and overwrite), delete the files within the ROW components that have already been modifed by TM, or just leave out the above ROW components?

BTW, I am not running RSRDC.

Thanks Archie. Yes you can disable this mod in JSGME and go to "SH4/MODS/Pacific Enviroments for ROW/Data/Shaders/Water/" and delete this file "waterTranspPS.fx" and enable the mod again, then the water edge mod will not be installed when you enable this mod again.

Great MOD...

Question: In the Readme, you say: "To make the scenery look as good as possible go to your "my documents/SH4/config/" and modify the file "main.cfg", find this line of code under "VIDEO" "dynamic shadows = false" and set it to "dynamic shadows=true".

The cfg file actually says "dynamicshadows=NO" I assume you meant that we should change the "NO" to "YES"......correct??

Well, the pics sure look stunning, and lower-end users say this mod doesn't brutally murder their PCs, so that's encouraging. Me, I never got the chance to see it in action yet. I was planning on finishing off my second patrol in a breeze, but RSRDC had other plans: after two fruitless 96-hour legs, I'm sent to an area just east of Singapore, where I ran into the Mother Of All Convoys: a dozen or so merchants, two Naka LCs, and only TWO DD escorts! Bagged me a handful, but the battle dragged on for so long, I limped to bed at 7:30...couldn't even stay up the extra 10 minutes it'd take my tub to reach Pearl Harbor :dead:

I have to get creative with graphics mods sometimes since my system in some respects doesn't meet "minimums" (i.e. 512 ram vice gig; poor ol' ATI x1300, etc.), but i get 25-30 FPS most times and boy it looks great! I had to use the reflex_pac.tga file from your previous version (2049 KB vice 8389 KB) because your fine work as released reduced me to a 2FPS slideshow. But with that switch it runs fine; hope i'm not missing out on too much. Anyway, thanx for your and everyone's hard work to keep this sim cutting edge! My mod list:

TMaru 1-2-3
Pacific Environment for ROW (modded as mentioned above)
RSRDC_P3_TM_v320
NSM4 Light
swdw's latest draft/diverate mod
roll-my-own radar/ppi fixes from Redwine/Mrrah/Anvart (classic stuff; still works with 1.4)

Respect, Sneeky

I've not installed yet...still out on patrol. Question: Your installation instructions on Page 1 of this thread says:
Installation:
Enable this mod on top of ROW or Trigger Maru using JSGME and read the incuded readme file.
This mod replaces the same files as the ROW addon + some extra files.

Does this mean that i should disable/uninstall "Addon for Reflections on Water" and replace it with this "Pacific Environment for ROW"? Or should i install this MOD on top of/after the "Addon..." MOD?

...meaning that "Addon for Reflections on the Water" is still needed?

Also, have you done any work on the torpedo wakes? Compared to the ship wakes, they don't blend in very well with the surface of the water.

No just the colour of the water and reflections, but because the water is darker now the torpedo wakes migh need an overhaul, I allso noticed this and will look into it later.

hi kriller, ROW Team!

i discovered the following:

Harbor_kit.dat --> all objects are set to MinRenderDim=500
this means they will only be rendered if
they are at least 500 pixels in dimension.
should be set to 5.

particles.dat --> Node -#funnel smoke: FastParticleGenerator;
SphereRadius=5, this results in disappearing
funnel smoke if the emitting object is not in sight.
should be set to 50.

I'm anxiously awaiting a response to your request....I also lost my Glare sometime during a recent MOD manipulation.... I also remember that Gamma was mentioned in the past as being a possible culprit....Also, I was told that having AA set above 4X would eliminate Glare. In one case, dropping from 16X AA to 4x AA immediately returned my Glare...Not this time though.

I have an 8800GTX, and I use nHancer for settings.

It's looking good, but it still looks like the torpedo is leaving streaks of a white chalky substance on the water instead of churning it up, (compare it to what the ship wakes currently render with ROW).

Here's some references:

Clearly visible wake of a torpedo fired by a German submarine (http://www.firstworldwar.com/photos/graphics/ww_torpedo_wake_01.jpg)

A torpedo striking a British steamer (http://www.arkady.cz/history/gallery/image007.jpg)

I'm sure there's more photos out there (and that they're not the best); that's just what I could find with a quick Google search.

I played for about an hour last night with the new Plankton (just kidding) mod as well as as swdw's surface draft mod.

Wow. Just when you you've got a beautiful, working install, you guys come up with something even better. Outstanding job, kriller!

The colours to me seem to be just about perfect in this release. Even better, colour banding is finally cut to just about nothing. And I love the plankton. I've got about the same breadth of ken regarding marine biology as George Costanzo, so I couldn't comment on how real it is, but it seems to be much more noticeable at night or dusk, thus making the water seem more murky and atmospheric.

I usually slow down the time to watch sunrises and sunsets in ROW every few game days, but last night I watched them all. Again, great job.

Unless I am mistaken, the "ROW sky and ocean controls" MOD has been overtaken and replaced by the "Addon for ROW MOD" and most recently by Kriller's great encompassing "Pacific Environment for ROW" MOD. You really ain't seen nothing, yet, until you've downloaded and installed this latest MOD.

Just wanted to second the nub who said the shell explosions look nasty. Just like a single sprite that expands then shrinks. Kinda like an explosion you'd expect to see in Duke Nukem 3D  ...and looks odd in comparison to the rest of the graphics.

Also, is anyone running ROW with NSM4, TM & RSRD? Not sure my installation orders right as early on in the night my water is jet black, I TC into the early hours and it seems to be ok again. So many great mods, but with all the updates and possible combinations it feels like your forever jiggling them around. If someone whos running these four could post their JSGME snapshot I'd be very grateful.

I hope well aimed critisism won't cause offence here. I just had a quick look with all the new stuff, and I really think ROWs taken a step backwards at some point. It might just be the pacific environment that needs work but it all just looks very gaudy, like a cartoon or as if I'm on acid. In particular the sunsets & sunrises. I saw a hell of a lot of bright pink at one point and it was reaaally heavy on the eyes.

It may be because I've been playing GWX2.0 in SH3 but if you take a look at GWX2.0 the ocean looks far better, the only downside being that the water isn't transparent. The water is just (hard to describe) more fluid and less ragged looking. I have 4xAA in SH3 and I realise this may help a lot but I turned it on in SH4 and it still dosn't come close. SH3's an old game now, SH4 should be beating it to a pulp!

One last gripe I have with the SH4 ocean is that the wave motion is affected by camera movement, as if the two are intertwined. If you look off the port side and move shake your head slowly from left to right, you'll see the wobble effect.

On the plus side (seems my mods are installed better now) the night time scenery is still stunning, ie the ripples and light reflecting off the surface. And of course the underwater graphics are far superior to SH3.

Hi ryanwigginton,

Yes the colours are pink and purple and cyan, but if you look on picture from Japan, Hawai, Fiji I think the colours are very near what yo would see at those places.

You are being harsh when you are saying this mod has taken a step backward :nope: , because you can't compare the atlantic to the pacific it's 2 different locations with it's own unique enviroments / colours...

I have used alot of time studying the colours before deciding on the colours for the new edition of ROW and I am not on any kind of drug ;) The same thing applies to the underwater scenery using real scubba diving pictures to make it look as close to reality as I could given the limits of the SH4-render engine.

About the wave motion that is affected by camera movement: This is something that lies deep in the way the SH4-engine works and unfortunately can't be modded.

Anyway you are the first to post about that so I must have done something right :|\\

It's good you like the night-colours and reflections that was one of things I tried to improve in the new version.

Hmmm... I can't understand what's going on then Kriller. Just seems like too much saturation but I'm all for accuracy and I can't fault you taking colours from actual images. I would 've thought it fool proof. Maybe something is lost in translation from reality to camera image, camera image to pixels. We know a camera doesn't always show what the eye sees.

I'm just the critic though and can't even begin to understand the complex work your doing. Just my way of trying to contribute. :)

The night shots DO look photo realistic but (for me) reality is shattered when the sun comes up. I went through a thick storm on my travels also, and that looked (and sounded) excellent.

EDIT: PS Can I just clarify, I don't need the ROW add-on with the Pacific Environment installed?

Yes you don't need the addon it's included in the new pacific enviroment. BTW how is your video-settings? The mod is best used with all the video options set to max, maybe thats why.

Thanks for contributing Ryan, I hope you get the pacific enviroments up and runing. Allso look inside the readme there is tip to enable the dynamic shadows :)

All options ticked, apart from full screen glare and ppf. Most sliders are set mid-way... apart from crew detail. And it's running at 1440x900, no AA or AF. I'm going to take a look at the dynamic shadows now...

Also, I'm still not dead certain on the install order... this is what I have right now:

TM (parts 1,2,3)
ROW camera
ROW ship reflections
ROW object reflections
ROW textures with sun halo v5
Pacific environment for ROW
RSRD
NSM4 classic
NSM4 torp malfunction
ROW depth charge shake
ROW sound effects v8
ROW special effects for NSM4 classic
Realistic torpedo wake

Please let me know if you can see any obvious mistakes. :88)
Thanks!

....on topic with the sunrises and sunsets it pays to visit you Video Cards Control Panel and make adjustments there. You will be amazed what you can accomplish to suit your taste. I am familiar with Nvidia only; so for those users I use Nhancer which controls all the settings plus more that the new Nvidia CP does not offer. You can make custom profiles with your preferred settings linked directly the the SH4 executable. Nhancer is daunting at first but it will not break anything and if you just dont like it at all just uninstall.

I have two seperate profiles for SH3 and SH4 which load when the game starts. You kind of tweak the visual look to suit your taste.

For me the new Pacific Environment is the right step in reproducing the Pacific and especially the Pacific Rim area of where we patrol. The lighting in that part of world during sunrise and sunset are just astonishing and breath taking.

Okay here's two pictures, one from an old version of ROW, months back and one from the ROW I have now. Can you see what I mean when I say cartoony? It might be something to do with the clouds... maybe they're not the correct colours in relation to the sky backdrop.

@Ryan what do you think better - are you interested in testing this for me?

Hi Alex and Defiance,

Thanks  I am just trying to finish what me and Dave started one year ago and learning new stuff along the way.

It realy is a shame that he aint around, it would be nice to chat with him and share his excitement for what can be archived with the amazing engine the romanian developers has created for silent hunter 4, if they had more time the final product could have been like ROW (or better), but unfortunately game-developers are on a time-schedule and have to hurry things.. They havent got one year to learn there own engine ;)

@ Kriller : About Dave, yes, it's a shame not to have him around us on here any more, and you probably feel his absence more than anybody else yourself... But I think the greatest thing we can do is keeping a place for him in our hearts, and keeping thinking about him... Dave's spirit keeps living on this game.

And yes, I agree, the devs don't have enough time to polish their own creations while developing the game itself... The greatest thing being that they have made it editable for you all non-stopping modders ! ;)

Unlees you actually took the picture you have to be a bit subjective as you don't know if the original photograper used a filter of some kind over the lens to enhance or saturate the colors.

Having said that I much prefer the second set of screenshots you posted. They look a lot better.

Hello all!
I've just want to report a possible bug.
I've downloaded and installed the mod from http://hosted.filefront.com/kriller2/
I've got patch ver 1.3.

With that mod installed, i'm experiencing random CTDs*. To test this, click a lesson in "Submarine School", quit the lesson and go back to the main menu. Try to repeat that lesson, play a mission or start a career and boom!CTD after the loading completes (atleast in my pc).

The CTDs go away if i unistall that mod.
I haven't checked yet if it runs without problems using 1.4 patch.

With your install of TM you do not need any ROW stuff much of it was incorporated into TM by Ducimus you can just add Kriller2 Pacific Env Mod.

Also, NSM4 is not playing well with RSRDC.

Hi all.

Thanks alot for all the good screenshots  and the great feedback you have given this mod.

About the menu mod: As you have seen in this thread, I couldn't help myself working some more on the sun sets and sun rises lately to make them as good as possible so this means the menu-mod will be included in the new version of Pacific Enviroments for ROW.

These 2 guys loadscreens wil be included in the upcoming mod. Prologos (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=776697&postcount=15) and Gunfighter (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=775798&postcount=7) did some great work which I will use in ROW.

Features in new version of PE for ROW 1.1:

- New allmost realistic sun set and sun rise.
- Better clouds rendering.
Now the clouds will reflect the sun and sky more.

- Improved torpedo wakes.

- New menu and loading screens.

PE 1.1 will contain all these ROW mods in one package for easy install:
- ROW Object Reflections and Search Lights vs_5b
- ROW textures without Sun Halo camera flair vs_5
- ROW Camera vs_2b (with Ducimus fix for movement on the mission screen)
- ROW ROW Special Effects with stock zones vs_6b
- ROW_New_Seafoam_from_Jaketoox
- ROW_New_3D_Cloud's_by_Kriller2 vers 2
- Warships retextured_install1_3 (better textures for alot of the Japanese warships by kriller2)

- (Optional installs (included in PE 1.1)
- If you don't like the plankton from the stock SH4 which is included in PE ROW, you can install the plankton/reduced floaters from ROW.
- If you like to have the camera flair around the sun, the sun flair can be installed and is included,

These mods are NOT included and needs to be installed after install of PE 1.1, to insure compatibility with TM and NSM:

- ROW Sound Effects
- Row Sub Reflections and Roll Pitch Mod vs_5

PE 1.1 is in the testing pipes from today off and probaly needs some more tweaking, but hopefully it will be ready in 2-3 weeks.
Hope thats okay with you? :arrgh!:

You are doing wonderful work, K2...much appreciated. BUT, please do not attempt a SuperMod as you seem to be planning. Why? For example, I use/prefer the "ROW texture WITH flair...".....I prefer the "ROW_Realistic_Camera_WITH_TURN_SWAY_2d"...

Also, there is a "ROW Special Effects for NSM4" which (once some bugs are fixed) would be preferable for me to "ROW Special Effects for Stock Zones"

I also have my own preferred LOAD Screens recently created by someone else (including a "Memorial to Dave" Intro-Load screen which I'd like to keep). Including your set of new Load Screens as an integral part of a single (super) Pacific Environment MOD seems to be going adrift from the heart of the MOD, graphic/visual improvements.

I also thought you had said previously that "ROW Sky and Ocean controls" would not be required, but incorporated into Pacific Environments...(??)

Are you planning to have a Zipped "package" of several Optional Mods to be selected from...and a Readme? Or will one have to accept a Single PE MOD 1.1 for JSGME enabling which will inlcude all the features you mentioned, such as your new Loading Screens, camera selection, Special FX, etc??? I do see that you mention that one will be able to select "ROW...with Flair" versus without flair"

Hi Doolittle. It's the next logical step to take, to make the mod more appealing to newcomers, instead of you have to pick between alot of different files from page # 1 of this thread, you simply download one package and then later you can add any of the options from page #1 if you f.ex. like the camera with camera sway, (but then you wont be able to look around in the mission briefing, because it's an old camea.dat)

This allso makes me and the users job at helping people to setup ROW easier.

BTW the camera flair is included as a seperate mod in the package and you can simply install it after PE 1.1 if you like it, (it's just one texture)

Also, there is a "ROW Special Effects for NSM4" which (once some bugs are fixed) would be preferable for me to "ROW Special Effects for Stock Zones"
You can add NSM after PE 1.1 and NSM for ROW last to make it work, guidelines will be included in the readme.

I also have my own preferred LOAD Screens recently created by someone else (including a "Memorial to Dave" Intro-Load screen which I'd like to keep).

Simple, install it after PE 1.1, see it's getting easier to guide users ;)

I also thought you had said previously that "ROW Sky and Ocean controls" would not be required, but incorporated into Pacific Environments...(??)

 That shouldn't have been on the list... (it's removed)

Yes one download which contains it all and the "ROW Special Effects for Stock Zones" included as a seperate mod in a version compatible with all the other stuff and 2 optional installations for camera flair and stock ROW plankton / floaters

I hope you will see that it's not that complicated and it realy makes my life and the moderators life easier to help people.

Hey, I wanted to let you know the colors seem way off. I was watching Victory At Sea and the ocean and sky are supposed to be black, whie, and shades of gray :p:lol:

You forgot the grainy effect as well. Can we have that back. Also add a scratch or two that runs about 60 frames:rotfl:

Hi Doolittle. It's the next logical step to take, to make the mod more appealing to newcomers...

Thanks for the detailed response.... and Thanks for your continued efforts on behalf of all SH4 Subsimmers!!!

Kriller2 is very elaborate in this post and maybe it's a good idea to make it a "general" readme for installing mods. Because if you do not know the principles or if you have no prior programming experiences you will loose track. Which comes first, second and last is guided by these principles and you're own preferences. The modders are so brilliant and active that it might help to link to a readme about the effects of loading order. In fact it's quit simple to understand if you know what's going on. Unfortunatly I'm not a modder, just a player and can not find the time. Perhaps it's a suggestion to post a general link or a seperate thread. There are in fact a lot of posts that explain what to do in a specific case, but perhaps there is a thread for everybody about loading mods and sequence effects. And the FAQ's (Ducimus made a great one, easy to read) from some modders are a MUST and in fact give a lot of general info.

Got to dive, planes sighted!

kind regards and thanks for the brilliant mod, kriller 2!

Hi freaks,

I got a little confused and need your help (SH4 1v4 eng).

I wan't to run the following mods:

* NSM4
* TMaru 1.7.6

What mods do I need to get best out of the graphics and sounds? Which parts of ROW / ROW/Addon are needed?

Currently I have on a clean install
1) TM 1.7.6
2) TM Sound
3) TM GFX_ROW v5
4) Pacific Environment 4ROW
5) ROW Sound Effects v8
6) NSM4
7) NSM4 Realistic Torpedos
8) CBS News
9) Sub interior fixes
10) Warships retextured 1v3

Any ideas or any master-list, what to install, which versions and ...??

Please help me out!

I know, everything will change, when the new Ubi Addon is released :-)

Thanks in advance

I think, this help :-)

I NSM4 light required, or may I take the normal NSM4?

Whatever floats your boat...eeer...unfloats the enemy's boat...uhm...d-oh!

You can choose whichever version of NSM4 you'd like, there are ROW Special Effects versions for both. The difference between Light and Classic is that boats flood and sink a little faster in Light. Make sure you install the correct version of ROW Special Effects AFTER the version of NSM4 you want.

Ok, now I totally confused. Can anybody post a linklist for the combination
TM
NSM4 full
ROW addons

PMs accepted also :-)

PS: Thanks! I'm not a newbie, but the combination is a bit to complicated for me :-)
