Good news! The version 1.1 of PE is coming along nicely and I promise you the black sea is gone now, so forget about the old black sea, now you will see the water in a colour that match the new sun sets, this is realy a breakthrough!

Will post some pictures later
BTW Prologos and Ryan and Torps, I have a new test-version for you guys and will PM it after I take some screenshots to post about the new water colour at sun set / sun rise.

Been making a new toolbar allso you can see in a sec...

I come to you humbly asking a small favor. I know that you are very busy working on PE 1.1. And as you may know Ducimus is also wraping things up on T.M. Overhaul.
While many on the forums (myself included) are like salivating dogs waiting on your new release, I ask that you either hold off until Duci has completed the Overhaul and perhaps you couldmake P.E. compatible.
Or (the more likely alternative) make a seperate version that will be compatible. I know you are very busy on your own mod and it takes even more time to check compatibility with other mods. However, I know you would be doing the masses a great favor. As I exclusivly play with T.M. and ROW+P.E.
Thanks

Btw I have installed this version of ROW-PE with TM (First TM and then ROW for the nice graphics to show)+RSRD and all play nicely so I don't think there's gonna be a problem for all of us that we are wondering!! In fact I even loaded my last save game (done with previous version of ROW) and no CTD no nothing :D

Thanks Prologos, nice to hear you like the new enviroments for sun sets and sun rises:sunny:

I have mailed with Ducimus and this mod will be compatible with Trigger Maru and RSRD since it does'nt change any configs or campaign-files. That was one of the main goals of making this mod with my friend Dave. The only file that's not compatible is the ROW sub-reflections, will look into if there is something I can do to make it work with TM.

Hi Doolittle. It's the next logical step to take, to make the mod more appealing to newcomers, instead of you have to pick between alot of different files from page # 1 of this thread, you simply download one package and then later you can add any of the options from page #1 if you f.ex. like the camera with camera sway, (but then you wont be able to look around in the mission briefing, because it's an old camea.dat)

Can I second this sentiment please? I would love to use ROW, but I find the different components, and the instructions in page 1 confusing and it's put me off. I for one would welcome a simple all-in-one mod i could start off with and tinker with later if I wish. I like what you are doing Kriller and I plan to install your combined mod.

New screenshot of WIP of PE 1.1:

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/674/pe11sunsetsk3.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pe11sunsetsk3.jpg)

Been working on the new orders toolbar to make it match better with TM and on the colour of the sea and clouds when sun set.

PE 1.1 will work with TM and stock SH4 and it's only one download with all ROW included exept the submarine reflections, since it's not working with TM.

I have the new SH4 Uboat missions ! and it seems this mod works fine with PE 1.1, it's a nice addon btw, much better graphics for the german subs! and you have the ability to command naval and air units as you progress in the German campaign. will post some screenshots of it later..

Hi,
I finally got back to port and decided to try Pacific Environment. It seems the black chrome water is back. I also had a lock up and "fatal error". I installed this over the other Mods including some of the ROW mods. Is that incorrect? I'm using TM 1.76, and RSRD, and over everything, diverate and NSM4 light.

Download ROW Sound effects version 9
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=788194&postcount=3273

Sound mod contains new effects for all sounds in game and adds alot to the immersion, try it!

Original work on the scene.dat and enviroment data-files by Dave / LeoVampire for ROW.
New enviromental data and textures by Kriller2.

Credits goes to the ROW team and others for parts of this mod, see credits at the bottom of this text.

25/03/2008 v.2

- Now all of ROW is included in one download with optional installs.
- Modified the storm conditions to make the water more realistic.
- New grass textures, stones and rocks, included Coratios seafloor mod.
- Reworked the scene.dat to make the ocean look and feel like the real thing (Used Dave's work for ROW and made some changes)
- Included an option to install lowres underwater enviroements for those who need extra FPS.
- Removed special effects mod, because of oil leaks burning forever, blocky fire etc.
- Included swdw's Dive rate mod, so now the sub will sit deeper in ocean. ( this mod has a bug, regarding dive rate if you use it with TM)
- New better sky and reflection textures.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Copy the folder "Install_PE2" in your MODS folder besides your main SH4 directory, use JSGME to install (google it if you don't allready have it) and say yes to overwrite files.

2. Try the game and if you like it and don't have any problems with low FPS then good.

3. If you think the FPS is low try install "Options Installation folder /Install more FPS" in your mods directory and enable it in JSGME after PE2
(More FPS contains low-res textures for reflections, light shafts, under water air and sea floor.)

4. If you have a super gaming rig (dual core and a very powerfull graphics-card) try install "Options Installation folder /Install more quality" in your mods directory and enable it in JSGME after PE2
(Contains hi-res textures for wakes, torpwake, waterair, lightshafts, bow wakes etc.)

No other files are needed from ROW, start up SH4 and enjoy the new scenery :-)

FOR BEST VISUAL PERFORMANCE FOLOW THIS GUIDELINE BEFORE YOU START THE GAME:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the best experience of this mod go to your "My Documents/SH4/Data/cfg/ and open the file "main.cfg" in a texteditor.

Find this code and change Dynamic shadows under [VIDEO]
DynamicShadows=No (new value set to = Yes)

Save the file, start your game and enable all video options except the "volumetric fog" (it's known to slow down performance..)

Try turn off Enviromental effects!, it removes the unrealistic horizontal line around the sub and blends the colours better sometimes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Background for working on this mod for Reflections on the water:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My good friend Dave (LeoVampire) was working on this before he passed away at the age of 42 and I was shocked like everybody else in the subsim-community and didn't want to work with the mod anymore. :(

The team who tested Dave's work before his tragic death where posting on the subsim forums, about how they realy would want his work to be released to the public and how they would like someone to take up his work and help with finishing it, being a member of the ROW team and a good friend of Dave I thought it would be a shame that all his work never had the chance to be released.

This work is dedicated to Dave for being a good friend and a known member of the subsim community for his never-ending striving to archive perfection on everything he did and his way of allway being willing to help people out if they had a problem with this mod and allways had a joke to go with the help :)

My work on this mod was to make Dave's work look as good as possible, by making new textures for water and sky and by fine-polishing his work and examining how his allready fine work could be improved and released to the public.

Hi Kriller. I like what I see as far as your continued, and improved work on Dave's original stuff. I would love to try your version, as soon as my current patrol ends. I do have a few questions I hope you can answer. First, in your instructions on installing this mod you mention TM, but not RFB. I'm assuming it'll work with RFB? Also, just for kicks, although I don't presently have the addon (plan on getting it ASAP), I was wondering if it would work with Dave's original ROW files? Thanks, and keep up the great work:up:

Hi Fish.

Thanks. I must admit that this mod is not tested with RFB, but as long you enable this mod as the last mod you should be in a safe harbour, because there are no configuration-changes in this version "only" alot of eyecandy ;)

You don't need the old ROW files with this version, but yes I think they would work, if you f.ex. like the old clouds better, you can add them after this mod.

Very confusing....sorry.

I use "ROW Special Effects For NSM4 Light" along with "NSM 4 Light" You say do not use ROW Special Effects, I assume because you have chosen to include ROW Special Effects in your super-mod. So I'm not sure where I go from here: Do I enable your MOD, then add my preferred NSM4 and ROW for NSM4 on top of yours?

Also, you have included a new "Menu". Not sure what that will do... Do you mean the tabs across the bottom...that 'menu'? What if I prefer what I have now?

You also have spoken in the past about the various ROW camera MOD options....If I enable your super PE MOD, do I then install my preferred Camera MOD ('ROW Realistic camera with sway_Vs 2d')after that, to overwrite your choice of camera??

I really like the beauty of your PE visuals...just trying to figure out how i get them without all the rest.

Thanks for any clarification/advice you can offer.

P.S. I don't do TM. So I at least understand that I need to keep "ROW Sub Reflections and Roll Pitch Mod vs_5" enabled...on top of(after) yoursuperMOD.....right?

letterboy1
02-26-08, 12:02 AM
Doolittle,
Kriller's Special Effects is included but as a separate folder that you don't have to install as part of PE. I am using NSM with its included special effects instead of the ROW version; no problem.

As for the menu, I also prefer what I have. What I did is to uninstall my preferred mods that conflict with PE, install PE, then re-install my prefered mods over PE such as menu bar and nomograph. Just remember that when you uninstall your mods you must uninstall first what you installed last.

Camera mods, same as what I did with menu.

The ROW Sub Reflections and Roll Pitch Mod doesn't conflict with PE, so it can be intalled before or after.

Hi Doolittle,

Use this version of NSM with PE 1.1:

Check that you have the right file here:
The new cameras.dat (with date 18.01.2008) should be in this folder:
"SH4\Data\Library\"

If not then something went wrong in the installation or my guess is that you have overwrited the file with another mod.

I installed this over the other Mods including some of the ROW mods. Is that incorrect? I'm using TM 1.76, and RSRD, and over everything, diverate and NSM4 light.
Thanks
J B

Hi Lansing.
Sorry for the delay in answer on this.

It seems you have a file-conflict in your install, you cannot use ROW special effects with NSM4, but if you want to use it try Dr. Beast's NSM4 for ROW here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...highlight=NSM4

What mods do you have installed?

Hi all.

Finally after alot of work and comparing files! I think I have found what caused the jiggly water in the old ROW files :D , try enable this after PE 1_1A in JSGME and tell me if you are experiencing any jiggly water?

This file is allso recomended for those who want to have the ROW pe enviroments in there new SH4 Uboat missions.

This version works with the addon for SH4, but I need feedback if it allso works with the old SH 4 1.4:

Bugs:
- Storm at 12 o'clock. Very bright water was seen is now corrected.
- Storm bright clouds all through midnight ( ) now corrected.
- Strange ambient light when sun rise and sun sets, which looks like someone pointed a flashlight at the sub :rotfl: now corrected, sorry.
- To bright water when cloudy at 12 o'clock corrected!

Try the new scene test file from SH4 Uboat Missions here: ( You can enable this on top of PE 1.0 or PE 1.1)
http://files.filefront.com/PE+1+1+a3+new+scene+testrar/;9716987;/fileinfo.html

Thanks to all those reporting bugs about this alpha  it's a timesaver for me.

Good news! the new scene test file actually works with SH4 1.4 :) and I haven't seen any jiggly water while testing it with 1.4, you should try it!

@ Letterboy sounds good you are making a video, I'm looking forward to see it.

I enabled your P.E. 1.1....I got this Torp/TDC/etc Display.
http://members.cox.net/doolittle80/TorpDisplay.jpg

I never had this before...although i have seen it in other folks' Screencaptures. I prefer the original/default display. Am I correct in assuming that you incorporated this display in P.E.1.1 and, if so, how can I get back my preferred Default display (the one with green torp buttons, etc, and Two-Speed Torp settings instead of the new display's Three-speed torp settings, etc)??? As you can see, I did already overwrite your P.E. 1.1 with my preferred "LeoVamp HUD..." display across the bottom.

@Doolittle.

You can disable in JSGME PE 1.1 go to your MODS/Pacific Enviroments 1_1Alpha\Install PE 1_1\Data\"

Delete the "menu" folder and enable the mod again, that should remove the hud and toolbar.

Maybe, it depends of your rig? Alot of people are saying that there is no FPS hit :hmm: , but I did make the enviroment textures in a better resolution and up the detail of the sun light in the scene.dat. You can try it and if you think it's not worth 2-3 fps, you can just disable it in JSGME.

As for the warships, no FPS hits should be seen, because I didn't change resolution of the textures, I just made some new bump maps and textures for the IJPN.

@Killroy That should have been RSRD.

Hi Steel_Tomb, ROW is compatible with NSM, but you have to run a compatible version of ROW, read the faq (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=788194&postcount=3273) here.

To do:
Hopefuly ROW Camera.dat will be worked on so that you can click crewmembers in the addon.

Special effects from ROW is been worked on to make it work in the addon, we allmost have it working, but have some small bugs to correct with oilleaks burning for ever :rotfl:

here is what to expect of the beta release:

Done:
- Now all of ROW is included in one download with optional installs.
- Corrected the bug with a black line could be seen on the horizont during sun rise or sun set (see pictures!)
- Modified the scene.dat so that no more black copper sea should be seen in PE (still a little when it's dusk and storm...)
- Made 2 versions of the special effects, one for SH 1.4 and one for SH4 1.5 Uboat Missions.
- New modified ROW sounds from Torps.
- Modified the storm conditions to make the water more realistic.
- Included Coratios excelent seafloor mod.
- Included an option to install lowres underwater environments and lightshafts for those who need extra FPS :)

First you have to download this program:
GPU PerfStudio (http://ati.amd.com/developer/gpups/index.html)
Install the GPUPerfstudio 1.2 program and be sure to enable the internet in your firewall for both the program and SH4.

Check that the program "Performance server program" is running, if not start it from the start menu.

Go to your desktop find the shortcut "DirectX App Launcher", drop your SH4 icon on to the app launchers icon (be sure that the shortcut for SH4 is not a shortcut to the "gu.exe" (game updater) program, but to the sh4.exe"!

Now the game will start with GPUperfstudio running in the background, when the title screen shows, quit to desktop. Go in to GPUperfstudio 1.2 and set the options on the picture, "Force Z test enable" to true.

Press "Enable all" nr. 1 on the picture, go to your desktop find the shortcut "DirectX App Launcher", drop your SH4 icon on to the app launchers icon again and watch those sun sets the way Dave designed them :sunny:

Now the game will start with GPUperfstudio running in the background, when the title screen shows, quit to desktop. Go in to GPUperfstudio 1.2 and set the options on the picture, "Force Z test enable" to true.

Press "Enable all" nr. 1 on the picture, go to your desktop find the shortcut "DirectX App Launcher", drop your SH4 icon on to the app launchers icon again and watch those sun sets the way Dave designed them :sunny:

Yes! They finally worked out a solution? Great news! Gonna try as soon as I get home  I wonder how it will play with the Omega drivers' ATi Tool I'm using, though :hmm:
BTW kriller2, those guidelines about temporarily seeing sun halo seem remarkably familiar to the ones I posted a while ago :D Just looked funny the way you addressed it to me ;)

Kriller.... does that fix process have to be done everytime you launch the game, or just once, and then just make sure the app is running in the background?

Alright, I'm following the directions above...

I have the performance server program running.

I start GPUStudio, and at the bottom of it's screen I get the repeating "trying to connect" thing happening, and I cannot click any of the Z options yet.

Minimize to desktop.

Drag the SH4.exe on top of the Direct X Launcher, and I get this.....

?

But the SH4 game launches fine by itself. So why wouldn't I have the d3l9.dll? I just reinstalled yesterday.

Hi Monolith, Thats strange... I haven't had any problems like that :hmm: Maybe it's because you need a new directx driver or something?

MONOLITH

UPDATE.

I'm passed the d3l9 problem.

I was using the 7.9 drivers. On the install of the GPUStudio, it made a reference about "not being able to get certain hardware and driver info with this driver version, please update to a later driver version".

So I did, and I am now on the latest 8.2 drivers.

Ok, so I no longer get the screen above.

But please check the instructions as you posted them, and make sure everything is exact, cause I'm having a different problem.

Here is what I do...

Firewall off.
Start performance server...leave running.
Start GPUStudio... click ALL...minimize.

Drag my SH4.exe on top of the direct X App starter.
Little DOS window comes up, then SH4 starts.

I cannot see the ubi vid or the opening video with the poem, but I can hear them.
Once I'm past those, I see the main loading screen.
It loads, I get to the menu screen, and I quit to desktop.

Go into GPUStudio and and set the Force Z options. Minimize and keep running.

Drop the SH4 onto the Direct X app starter.

The first time, the game ran, but the sun flare was not there.

The second time, now right after the ubi video (that i can't see) the game crashes and I get "Sh4 has encountered an error" window.

Am I messing up a step in the instructions? I'm confused as to why you have to drop the exe on twice, something seems wrong about this.

during sunrise i get the red circle not the shining sun. do you guys have any idea of a setting i can change to get it back? its the only anomaly i have.

nvidia evga 8800 GTS current drivers.

Same problems for me, I think its a change made to a file in the data/shaders file folder. However if you install a older version of ROW you do not get the red sky and fancy cloud affects, but you get the good sunset. So we need to know what changes Kriller2 made in those files to correct the settings for Nvidia.

Dave optimized ROW for Nvidia and helped out ATI users on how to get the same affects except the halo which is a software issue. Someone with a nvidia card needs to work with Kriller2 to make sure we all get the same benefits.

Gonna try as soon as I get home

Please let me know if you get this working, and exactly what steps you do; because I cannot get it working.

When you fist start the GPUStudio, you cannot click on the Z setting until you connect it with the game.

Redragging the exe onto the DirectX app launcher a second time, after the Z settings are changed, is causing me to crash before the game gets to the loading window.

I'm thoroughly frustrated.

Kriller, when you say "quit to desktop", you are actually ending the SH4 program, and starting it a second time when you drag the exe the second time, yes? And at what point are you quitting the game after the first drop...It seems you can't get out of it until you see the menu screen. Correct?

Correct untill now Monolith

Go into GPUStudio and and set the Force Z options.
Now you need to push the blue button "all" (nr. 1 on the picture) and do the thing underneath this sentence
Minimize and keep running.

Drop the SH4 onto the Direct X app starter.

Try that and let me hear if it works now  One warning never press the windows button or try to go to desktop when the game runs with GPUperfstudio in the background, go to main menu and allways quit the game first or else you will get error / crash

I allso had ALOT of troubles getting this to work following a guide, but once you get it running it's worth it! ..and you do have to follow the same procedure everytime you start the game.. :(

Yes, renaming the logo and intro videos will take care of the CTD problems. I chose to rename their extension (added a .bak), and the game runs fine. And bloody hell yeah! I can see the halo! :D BUT...yes, there's a big BUT there. Well, four actually, one of which has already been covered. Here's what I mean:

1. I suffer a huge performance hit when GPUperfstudio is running on the background, no matter if I apply the fix or not. My already borderline FPS plummet from 23 to 13! And I can clearly see a fluctuation there, FPS go from 8 to 13 and back again all the time, following a pattern that clearly follows the applications' monitoring progress in the background
2. I can't Alt-Tab out of the game (already covered)
3. The sun halo shows through the submarine, when I align it with the rising/setting sun
4. The submarine's wake loses its crispness. It looks more like some white oily substance, and nothing like sea foam.

You can all understand that I'm sticking to the boring red orb, until ATi comes up with a solution in its new set of drivers, now that the problem has been pin-pointed (high hopes, I know )

MONOLITH
03-03-08, 11:54 AM
I had been looking for a way to bypass the vids, but didn't think it was possible. I was afraid renaming the vids would cause a crash as the engine would look for them but not find them.

I'll try it for sure.

I can confirm DrBeasts report, as the couple of times I did get the game running with GPU in the background, my frame rates got hammered.

it's nice that we did indeed find a fix, but if it causes too many other hassles, I might just do without the sun glare for now.

it's a real shame that between UBI and ATI, this couldn't get sorted out in the several patches and add-on we've had, not to mention several ATI driver versions since SH4s release.

Every set of ATI driver release notes, I always look for "resolved SH4 sunglare issue", but it's never there.

Quagmire

I finally got this to work. Thanks Kriller! It was your last step by step process that did the trick. However I have good news and bad news.

First the good news. My x1950 has never rendered this before!

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1574/shiv7852kn1.jpg

Now the bad news. The cost of this beauty is a HUGE frame rate hit and the pretty wakes now look like oil slicks.

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/705/shiv7846kh2.jpg

Now I did a little research and here is what I found. That Force Z Test Enable setting identifies z-order performance issues. Z-order or the layering of objects in the distance is a very sloppy area in the SHIV 3D engine. When you damage a ship in the distance you most often see the damage textures flickering in an annoying way. The same must be happening with the sun rendering. The halo layer is not being rendered around the sun for some reason.

Now the question is why Nvidia chipsets seem to be able to compensate for this and render the effect? And what is it with the x1950 chip set that can handle it? I single that chipset out since the latest ATI chipsets seem to render the sun halo just find.

Unfortunatly I fear that our niche passion for sub sims is too small to be noticed by both ATI and Ubisoft. We are too small a group for them to notice and a fix for this one issue in an other wise "servicable" 3D engine.

Oh well, this is a great find Kriller. I will surely use it when taking screenshots. However it is a bit impracticle for daily use.

It is nice to finally see the work of so many in its full glory. Thanks for that!!!

Hiya's,
Nvidia users..................

Nvidia in their wisdom fubared the last drivers (can't rem offhand which number but you could google etc)

anyways you lose the sunglare passed 4x settings

So use 4x and make sure the driver option "antialiasing gamma correction" is set to Off

Or you could drop back a few driver releases to fix the limiting 4x

I am using 169.09 but just checked as i type and there's a xp driver out 169.21

I've changed that many things on my rig i don't rem if i've tried this 169.21 lol

anyways maybe of use to some nvidia users

Ciao

Have fun

Kriller, I've been doing some more testing and I noticed something interesting...

The sonar station is not black in the U.S. subs, it appeared to only be an issue on the German version (can't remember which sub though).

This may be because I had the RSRD mod installed as well, but I am not sure. Heck, I may have uinstalled that mod while I was testing (I have been doing a lot of fidgeting with SH. hehe).

I will do some more testig tonight and report back more focused findings. :)

This may be because I had the RSRD mod installed as well, but I am not sure. Heck, I may have uinstalled that mod while I was testing (I have been doing a lot of fidgeting with SH. hehe).

I will do some more testig tonight and report back more focused findings. :)

Hi Ark, thanks for the heads up, but we have a working camera now in the sonar room. Prologos fixed it, so I will post a link to it later today.

What Pacific Environment Mod(s) and patches are needed/compatible. Are ANY ROW Mods needed or are all included in the PE mods?

Doolittle, if you go to the main page of this thread, you'll be directed to Kriller's latest work. Just install the yellow hi- lited downloads. His new work contains most, if not all of ROW, and then some. As for other 1.5 mods, RSRD was brought up to speed, but RFB and NSM are still in the works. There is also a German voice pack (the thread is on this on this first page) which uses SH3 voices in the German campaign.

Speaking of my fellow countryman, when will the new loading screens will available kriller? ;)

The loading screens are overdued as a result of my exam schedule (which btw is completely over now) so don't shout at Kriller for that. You can shout at him on everything else on ROW freely though ;)
As a sidenote I dare someone else to find me a EE country in which teachers go on a strike in the middle of the exam period. I also dare anybody to find me a country where the electrical company cuts off power for hours at a time in order to make their demands with the goverment be heard....
Anyway my schedule is ok now and I believe that you 'll have the screens pretty soon. I am currently trying to make the best possible main loading screen for ROW/SH4.
And now that I am thinking of it....A quick pole!
Would you prefer a main loading screen with a U-boat or with a Fleetboat? Be aware that if you choose a fleetboat you will forever be doomed to sail the pacific in 15m/sec winds surounded by the Jap Navy! So choose wisely :D

Hydrophone view works great now in IXD2.

Though there is still few problems.
1. In XVIII you can see the sonar guy when you go to hydrophone view.
2. If you click helmsman in both IXD2 and XVIII you get "Camera out of sectors" and the view is somewhere outside the interior 3d model.
3. If you go to radar view in IXD2 and XVIII and try manually rotate the radar antenna (Insert and Del keys) the view moves up and down.
4. If you go to Interior aft in either of the U-boats you get blank screen.

Other than that PE is working great with 1.5. :)

I need to see that!! I have a 8800GTS and when I am in a harbor or near a burning ship my fps drop instantly! Usually if I Alt-Tab to desktop and back to SH they return to allmost normal numbers (25+fps) but it would be much more enjoyable if I didn't have to do this.

Dr beast I hope you saved your samples! I have lost a PC that way in the past. As for today... I went to the TEI (TEI is the term for the technological universities here in Greece for anybody who wonders what that means), in order to declare what courses I would take for the next semester but guess what??? Power out - so I have to go again tomorrow. I returned home , ate, took a nap :D (noon siesta - Greek - Mexican previlege) I wake up and......power out again. :damn: And this situation is going to continue for about a week with black-outs of increasing duration.

Oh and I allmost forgot... Get well soon K2!!!

Hi Kriller..Thanks for keeping up the good work. One thing i have noticed is that when in external view, I instantly lose about 10 to 12 FPS when viewing the rear of the boat. I tend to believe it must be something in the seafoam or spray. If I'm looking from the side view and pan enough to take the props out of view, the FPS instantly jumps back up. This also applies to any boat with a prop. In addition, if I'm looking at the boat at peroscope depth, the FPS stays good. That's why I'm assuming it must have to do with the foam or spray. I'm currently using GE Force 8600Gt with 169.25 drivers (the most current).

Hi Soundman.
Thanks for comment about the FPS isssue. That was allso my observation, so I have been optimizing the graphics that controls those things for PE 2 and just by doing that, it gave the game a 5-10 FPS increase and by optimizing the underwater effects gave the game a FPS increase underwater as well.

Must say it's great your carrying on and improving the visuals for us all :)

I have delved trying modding a bit the passed 2 days err well nights lol (after a self taught crashdive into paintshop)

You know the new funky warning icons with 1.5 (like the one that pops up when your underwater (well i never, i go to periscope depth and heavens above i'm below water lmao)) i managed to get rid of them and kept the re-fuel/port etc as per 1.4

Hopefully gonna attempt to change some stuff on the hud visuals

Anyways, Seeing as i post here mainly, Anyone fancy sending/uploading 2 small stock files for me ?

Hi Defiance,
Thanks I have allso used HUGE amounts of time on this project and if all the testers don't find any big bugs, this mod will be released and I will take a big break from modding.

Regarding your question. I think the hud for the american camp. is in menu/gui/layout hud.dds. but bear in mind that the file allso includes an alpha layer whch controls what should be transparent. I had some funy results in the start, because I didn't realize that ;)

I don't know where the hud for the u-boats is, but it seems the devs have seperated the files for the german campaign in these folders:
SH4\Data\UPCData
SH4\Data\UPCDataGE

Good luck with you hud project.

Just checking in to see the progress, and now I'm positively drooling! Our server here at the Uni died yesterday, succumbing to the plague of multiple blackouts, and we were out of internet for the whole damn day!

Good news is, I placed the order for the new parts! Sometime next week I'll be the proud owner of:

Intel C2D E8200 CPU
ASUS P5K SE motherboard
Kingston PC6200 1GB DDR2 RAM...not very proud of that, really, but it was dirt cheap! One stick so I can add another one later on to bring the RAM to 2 GB and enable dual-channel
ATi HD3650 PCI-E graphics card (256MB DDR3 version)
WD SATA2 320GB hard disk

The rest will be salvaged from the old PC. Best config I could come up with...318 Euros, tax-free (it's good to have a professor who knows people in computer stores!)! :D

Hiya Kriller :)

I installed sh4 1.5 on another drive so i can mess with one and use other for testing

There are American/German folders in different areas now, So armed with that i'm trying my hand at modding and liking it :)

I have used paintshop etc 99% for red-eye fix on pics or sharpening pics lol, I now realise how to use p-shop with nvidia plugins etc

I was using alpha layer after i realised i needed it lol, I made mistake of trying to make alpha transparent if that makes sense, Stuff like pop-up icons were black lol, And also i wasn't saving my work correctly in the nvidia save eg: DXT1 RGB 4 bpp | no alpha

Now i know to use No mipmaps and DXT3 ARGB 8 bpp | explicit alpha

Just messed with periscopes for TMO so i'm happy

Well you deserve a rest mate after all your hard work

Hi All :)
Just a quick noob-question...
I really love this mod and i couldn't be without it now, but i would really like the old vanilla "centered u-boat" external view back (the one you get when cklicking "next unit"). The new movable bridge view is perfect, but i when i want to do a quick 360-scan i find the viewpoint in external view a bit cumbersome.

Any hints what i would have to do to get the "u-boat centered" view back?

1) it looks like with the Uboat add on the devs fixed the unlinked damage sounds that TRM fixed a few months ago. Steam, glass and other damage sounds seem to work now...

on a more related question..

is anyone here still using Leo's Roll and Pitch Mod?
it seems like with the patch the boats are riding a little bit better, the roll on the uboats still isnt enough but it seems better than the v14 stock fleet boats. The fleet boats seem to be rolling a bit more now as well. I was running Roll Pitch mod for a few days but figured since im on a Uboat campaign it wouldnt apply anyways.

is anyone using it? any comments if it would still be effective in 1.5?

The Roll Pitch Mod modifies every U-Boat. Untill yet, there is no Roll Pitch mod for the two German Boats in the Addon. For the US Boats it should still work.

Hi ATR,
If you are using the new PE 2 and think the boats roll better, it's my doing, now the sub rides on the wave and the waves act more naturally. Panther Cules send me an email with some technical stuff and thanks to him I implemented it in the mod.

BTW I haven't received any serious bugs, but I am awaiting swdw new surface and divetime mod, which will go into PE 2 allso a surprise will be included if Kapitan can make it work...

I figured as such, nice job on implimenting it into your PE, i just wanted to be sure i no longer needed R&P.

BTW, ive had no bugs or issues with any of your latest stuff at all. Just ocean goodness! I think your biggest accomplishment, by far, was getting rid of the shakey water.

thanks for the reponse and lookin forward to your new stuff

....If you are using the new PE 2 and think the boats roll better, it's my doing, now the sub rides on the wave etc...

When referring to PE2, am I correct that it is a forthcoming WIP Mod version?

Also, the last Patch I have installed (in SH4 1.5) is this one, "Patch for pe1_2Alpha". Is that correct, and is it only for SH4 1.5?

Is Patch for pe1_1Alpha the last Patch for SH4 1.4, followed only by the "PE 1_1a3_new_scene_test"?

Will the new PE2 roll changes work with the "diverate" Mod which effects the 'depth' at which the boats ride on the surface?

nice work, Kriller! couple of questions I'm repeating because I couldn't find an answer in this thread:

1. is there a way to have day/night ship-wake-halos? the day-time wake-halo is perfect, at night it's too bright. I couldn't find an answer to this. I tried a stand-alone mod and it looks better at night but worse during the day.

2. i've yet to see many clouds, is this using your old 3D clouds?

3. is the foam/spray the hi-res or lo-res version? when I try to load the "performance" ROW foam/spray mod over top, I don't see the old bump in FPS.

4. I added GREEN CROSSHAIRS over top PE 1.1a and it didn't work... any ideas?

great work!

Regarding the scene.dat changes in ROW . I always used the stock scene dat for patch 1.4 because i didnt like the sea movement in ROW , especially the wave shakes . Also my comp ran like a pig . Now that i have patch 1.5 and the scene dat is basically ROW , my comp runs like a pig again and i get the wave shakes/wobbles all the time . I reduced the sea speed from 0.08 down to 0.045 and it has helped a lot . Hope this helps someone .

That sucks kriller2, but don't give up just because of this. To be honest, I'll continue to use ROW and its PE branch cause, well, it was Dave's work. I don't care if I gain a few FPS or the colors look a bit better or whatever. Dave's spirit is here, and you're honoring it with every new release of PE, so I'll stick with it.

Kriller i don't think that you should give up on what has become one of the best mods ever.

I do know that you have offered your help to W-clear ragarding some issues that he has/had. I'm guessing that you have had no response from him which is just damn right rude IMO.

I've looked at some of his work and yes i'm quite impressed, have i downloaded any of his mods? No, i'm sticking with what i know is best.

To give up on this know becouse somebody is using some of your work (?) would be like letting somebody rob your house while watched and did nothing. Does W-clear realise he is stepping on peoples toes? Is he just innocently modding away oblivious to the fact?

It's not about giving up, but how would you feel if you spent nights trying to figure a problem out and finaly after alot of brainstorming and testing make it work, f.ex. the lightshafts to only be showed under water I made a change in the shaders and BOOM the next version of Wclears mod uses that shader change the same goes for the work on clouds speed etc etc. I have tryed to mention this to Wclear to no avail. Jaketooxs water edge mod is allso in Wclears work.

I think at least he should give the credits in his readme, that's the ONLY thing I and alot of others are working for free for in this community.

Keep going. You have a big fan base for the ROW/PE mods. Those are the people that you need to think of.

W_clear's mod has become popular among a smaller group of users because it doesn't cause the frame rate hit ROW does for those with older machines.

Take a look through the pics posted in different threads. You'll see 90% of them with environmental mods are using ROW/PE. Why would you want to quit when that many people truly enjoy your work.

Plus you can always borrow something from his mod that you like, just like he's done. Difference is this. You can, as the old saying goes- "be the better man" by acknowledging his work you borrow from. People around this forum appreciate integrity.

So- don't give up the ship.

Yes I have tried to be friendly, but when I realized that my work and others are used without no credits whatsoever it's something different.

I have nothing against wclear modding on the environments and bringing this game to a better shape, it's the "no credits" issue that anoys me, its a common rule that we allways credit modders for what they do if you use somthing you know is'nt your doing, just look in my readme, I have so many credits that it's an entire population !

Anyway hopefully Wclear will respect the unspoken rule and change his ways and we can all continue discover new aspects and ways to enhance this unslipen diamond, the developers have made.

Try not to let that other situation get to you - either (1) he's just innocently screwed up and will fix it by giving appropriate credits where due now that it's been pointed out, in which case it's not worth getting all exercised about, or (2) he's done it on purpose, in which case he's a scoundrel and beneath contempt, and everybody will know it, so again, it's not worth getting all exercised about. Bottom line - I hope you keep doing this because you enjoy it and you want to, and don't let situations like that deprive you of your enjoyment.

Nah, forget it, either a cloud shadow or a limitation of the camera angle, its very variable, I do a lot of screen shots for testing of other MODS and it drives me nuts as even a small change can really make the picture look so different.

They actually sell tapes/DVD's of fires in fireplaces for people without same to run on their TV screens for "atmosphere"....so why not simply set your Sub sailing into the sunset and let it 'play' while you and your gal snuggle, sipping a tropical drink...watching the sun set, the moon and stars appear, listening to the gentle throbbing of the diesels...while romantic music (current or from 'Yesteryear') plays on your "Grampahone"... Especially if you can run SH4 with a Large widescreen TV display, I think it would be a knockout treat/surprise for a Finale or Opening of a 'Date'. Better than Etchings. You could even set a route to take you close by an island or two, and when the seagulls appear above you, any date will Oooo and Ahhhh, and melt.

I'm actually serious. Wish I were younger. <sigh>

Hello boys and girls, I'm pretty new to mods for SH4 and I wanna say that this is awsome mod you made kriller2. I got those 4 files you are providing, instaled them in that order but I don't think I see much difference from stock game (I could be blind and stupid also).

The only files that I have instaled are:
1. ROW pacific Enviroments 1.1alpha
2. That new scene file
3. ROW sounds vs 9
4. Patch 1.2 for Pacific Enviroments 1.1alpha

This is the exact order I installed them, and if that is the corect order that means I'm doing something wrong. So, can a nvidia owner can help me twink the setings for the video card?
What I got Proc: core duo 6750, video card is 8800 GT (and I got the latest driver and that is 169.21), 2 GB ram (A-Data vitesta Kit), 22'' monitor and I'm using the higher resolution. So if somebody knows what are best twinks for nvidia users for this game can help me out a little? Or how can I enable the sun glare and all that nice visual things? I'm a little lost over here...

P.S: The guys from the watch deck don't have eyes sometimes, or if they have the eyes are rly pushed back in the head. Maybe this info can help......

Thanks

I have an Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB card.

First, download and use nHancer to set your Nvidia card.

You can set up a profile, if you wish, for SH4. I simply set my "global" settings and use them....I only run three games/simulations and the global settings work fine for all.

Here are the settings which seem to work for most people, and definitely work for me:

The Pacific Environment MODs/Patches you named seem to be the most current and you seem to have them in the correct order. Try also adding the "Install sun flair for camera" MOD after those PE MODs if you want the sun glare which I think is not included in P.E. http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Textures+with+Sun+Hal+57z/;9287382;/fileinfo.html

It's me again:

I got installed now:

1. TMO 15 (for U-Boat)
2. TMO_service Pack_1 Bravo
3. TMO_service Pack_2
4. TMO_Enable_UBoat_Ver2
5. TMO_Metric_SpeedChart_Nomo
6. Pacific Enviroments 1_1Alpha
7. Patch for pe1_2Alpha
8. PE 1_1 a3_new_scene_test

The problem is that when I dive I still see ppl on the watch deck :damn: . They look just stupid staying there underwater and watching thru binoculars....What can I do to remove that? or is something that I installed wrong?

Download ROW Sound effects version 9
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=788194&postcount=3273

Sound mod contains new effects for all sounds in game and adds alot to the immersion, try it!

Where is the link to the soundmod - this link only makes this page reload.

Can I use Trigger Maru with this mod?
Yes you can, bot be sure to enable this mod AFTER Trigger Maru.

Can I use RFB with this mod?
Yes you can, but be sure to enable this mod AFTER Trigger Maru.

Im asuming that in the part about RFB you ment AFTER RFB and not AFTER Trigger Maru - correct?

Awesome work Kriller2

Just an FYI about colors of the sky and the Pacific.......

I spent a total of 18 months deployed out there and the colors can and do get so vivid and intense that anyone who hasn't experienced it first hand would call it cartoonish.

Japan isn't called the land of the rising sun for no reason.

Sunrise and sunsets out there border on the miraculously beautiful, almost alien.

The intense colors are spot on, actually more greens would really add to it.

Another thing that is quite "Pacific" is lots of cumulous clouds, like cotton puff balls.

I've seen horizons so intense that at times you couldn't pick out the line where sky met earth and the illusion was such that the clouds looked like fanciful archipelagos stretching off into the distance.

If anything don't mute the colors, it's very realistic.
