Hi all !! :)
I 'm coming back here and to SH4 and i wish to use this fantastic mod, but : i'm so confused in the way to install it ...
I just use TM 1.6 and just a few mods.
I did a fresh install this morning and downloaded ROW + Row special Effects_w_Nsms ;
In which order do i install all this with JSGME ??
Confused cause in ROW, there is a folder named "Special Effects" or something .. and seem to have some sounds which are still in "Row_Special_Effects_W_Nsms"
Confused cause in TM 1.6, there is NSM but is it 3.3 ?? Do i need NSM 3.3 ?
Confused cause there are many "scene.dat" in different folder and mod ..
Well, confused and a bit lost .. But, anyway : Seems you have done great work !!

I believe you would activate TM 1.6 first. I'm not sure if the NSM version in TM is 3.3, but I would assume it is.
Just to be safe, you could activate TM 1.6, then NSM 3.3. You will get an overwrite notice, but if 3.3 is already in TM 1.6, it won't matter.
And you do not need to use the "ROW Scene install" folder, or the "Hollywood Effects" folder, as those files are in the "ROW Special Effects W/NSM" folder.
Your JSGME should be in this sequence...
TM 1.6
NSM 3.3 (might not need)
ROW Textures
ROW sub Reflections
ROW misc Reflections
ROW ship Reflections
ROW Camera mod
ROW Special Effects W/NSM zones (THis will overwrite some ROW Textures, it's ok).
I think the Acade vs 4 camera mod is the best one.
If not using TM, you definately need the NSM 3.3 to go along with the 'ROW Special Effects W/NSM'.

Hate to say it but what the hell is going on in this topic, 3 pages of confused people!!
Can I suggest that the first post in this topic is the only post updated with links to the required mods, can I also suggest the first post contains the guts of a read.me that explains what people should install, and in which order. I'm sure all this confusion could be avoided quite simply.
As for me, i've just wiped SHIV completely to start a fresh install. After 10 minutes and re-reading this topic i'm completely and utterly confused myself! :damn::damn::damn:

Big Thanks Monolith !!
I will test all this.
I'm not sure, but i think in TM, it is NSM 3.0 .. (Really not sure ..).
A "little" thing : In ROW readme, about the "ROW highend_ship_reflections" , sub and misc folder, say Vs 0.5b while i have Vs 0.1 ... So : Have I the good and last one ???

Thanks for all the nice feedback "and alot of confusion lately" We are only 4 people on this mod and to help us, I would suggest stop asking the same question again and again "Which order" shall I install this and "I am confused" doesn't speed up the process of an beta-release... We will try to answer the questions, but I am getting a little anoyed when the same question is poping up again and again.
ROW is mostly a mod for adding as much eyecandy as possible in one mod, so it works with all other mods, including TM, RFB as it doesn't change the campaign files or configs, but I suggest you add ROW as the last mod to get the full package, LeoVampire have used alot of time to make this clear on the first page.

No point getting annoyed Kriller, its a very normal reaction for people who are genuinely confused. You certainly can't blame people for asking how to install your mod if they find the documentation confusing. Its just human nature mate.
For those that are confused, like myself, here's my mod list order. It appears to be working but i've not really put it through its paces yet.

I've run Reflections on the Water for a total of about ten minutes now. Man, did it start out good, looking right into the OOD's face as he ordered "All stop!" Whoa! I'm not in Kansas any more, that's for sure. Then I noticed that I was in control room free camera mode by default. I wandered around in a trance, soaking in all the great new lighting effects.
I went to the bridge and the ocean was breathtaking as the submarine moved as part of it, not a gyrostabilized piece of bedrock that somehow could move around the surface of the ocean. I found myself in automatic free camera mode there, too, so I moved around. I could get as close to anything as I wanted, even passing through objects that got in my way. The light played on the boat as I've never seen it before. Just closely examining the deck gun was a transendental experience. This is an amazing mod, a supermod for the environment as Trigger Maru is for the human elements.
Then I looked up. The constellation Orion was high. and about 20º to the right of it was......What the hell is THAT MONSTER?
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/RockinRobbins13/Silent%20Hunter%204/Reflectionsonthewaterdealbreaker.jpg
In the sky, we measure things just like you do in Silent Hunter 4, by angular distances. And sprinkled throughout the sky are yardsticks, which help us, just like the tools on the chart table of your submarine, to measure the sky. One such yardstick is the belt or Orion, which was prominent overhead.
The first standard this yardstick measures is the celestial equator, which passes right through the belt. And the other is an angular distance yardstick. The three stars are almost exactly 1½º apart, making the whole belt 3º long.
The other celestial yardstick in the sky there is the...."moon." The moon and the sun are celestial yardsticks, as they measure hundreds of things in the sky, but their diameter is also a universal yardstick as both are almost exactly ½º in diameter. You can fit six of them between the end stars of Orion's belt.
Except in this monsterous sky, where the moon is more than six times its actual diameter! Any astronomer or mariner will take one look at Reflections on the Water's moon and sun and say, "It's Frankenmoon!" Then they will realize that any navigation is impossible. Five minutes later ROW will be uninstalled.
Why do I think that way? Let us suppose that you took any other aspect of the game and made it six times larger than real. Try the sub's propeller. Is that acceptable? You're laughing! Let's make the sub's interior six times larger than its exterior. It worked for Halo, why not here? We could just multiply all dimensions of the submarine by six while leaving all other ships realistic. That is what you have done with the sky, and it is just as laughable as these stupid examples. While we're having fun, how about just enlarging the captain's gonads by six times. Although they would be spectacular, they would be useless, making neither him, nor any of his lady friends very happy. Similarly, a sun and moon six times their actual size are just ugly, inappropriate and useless characatures of what they really are.
Please Mr Modders, treat the sky with the same respect and loyalty to realism as you treat the rest of the envronment. (Battle Hymn of the Republic or Finlandia, choose the choice of your choice, plays softly) Any uneducated farmer from 80 years ago would pick out the problem in a second. Because we are the products of light-drenched skies, where the real sky is banished, and we remain ignorant if its majesty and reality, we overlook a crime here. A crime against reality, and the beauty of reality: a monster masquerading as a hero, a serial killer as president of the PTA. Oh, the humanity!

but I am getting a little anoyed when the same question is poping up again and again.
1. The better man realizes not everyone is as savvy as some others. There's no excuse for a modder getting snippy over the questions of the users of his mod. None.
2. The information on page 1 most certainly was NOT clear. No one would have known we needed both the original NSM mod AND the ROW folder, unless we kept asking the question.
3. There's 25,000 members here, all with different configurations and blended with a few hundred other mods. Each set of questions I see, are all related to different specifics, and are all very legitimate.
Leo does a great job at handling peoples questions with a smile. if you can't handle it without getting "annoyed", than stay out of it and let him do it.
And although you will take this badly and respond with hostility, that's actually just meant as friendly advice. :smug:
Cheers.

Okay ;) I haven't seen lightnings in the game when in campaign and i know Leo has worked hard on getting it to work, but found out that it have something to do with the way SH4 uses it's cache file, but it's still a major bug he tries to solve so that we all can enjoy the thunder with real lightning.

Okay, so that creates two questions...
1. "In campaign".... so have we definatley seen lightning working in either war patrols or quick missions? I've actually been looking in the "Hunt for wounded Bear" War patrol.
2. In regards to above, has anyone actually seen lightning yet at all? I thought I did read some people had it. If not, I assume the lightning textures were tentatively placed into the game by our Romanian friends, but never actually implemented?

Another thing, when using arrows to turn my "head", I'm feeling like a drunk. Rolling and swaying... can that be fixed/changed?

First of all I did make them a bit smaller than the games original set up of them in the first place so they were a lot larger before I even touched them.
All I did was slightly set them smaller and made sure they worked the same way in size so that the ingame set up will do the Lunar and Solar Eclips and have them look right when they do accur in game.
No I did not take the time to try and get the sizing perfectly real to life because it was not a priority to the mod and there were ton's of other nightmares to work through and deal with first.
Second every time a saved game is loaded when the moon has already rissen it changes it's luner cycle so the only way to see what is happening is to go to a save before the Moon rises and then wait for it to reach the point you need to compair with the stars then shut the game off make an adjustment and watch the moon rise and cycle again to check again.
Almost every aspect of this mod work has to be done like that. Maybe when I have timeI will work on getting the sun's size and moon's size exactly the way they should be. But also keep this one thing in mind. The camera for this game try's to simulate the size distortion we see with our own eye's. So unless you look straight on at the sun and moon with the same camera view each time you will not get to see the object's actual size set up in the game. So the timing and the camera view and the direction of the camera all come into play working on this type of set up.
If you want to do this and get it done for your game or to share with others GO FOR IT!!!
Other wise you need to wait until I have some time to invest in that kind of project for the mod. Plus I to like to get a little game play in so I do not forget why I am doing this in the first place. For everyone including myself.
I will look into it for the final release of the mod but will not guarentee it will be done until that time.

Have you guys noticed that your batteries no longer fully recharge with ROW? Mine only get to 99% and stay there. Very bad for fuel economy.
Anyone know why?

@Subject; In order to make the camera allow you to free walk everywhere, the collision parameter was removed.
An unfortunate side effect of that is you can freely move through the 3D models that are incomplete by design. You can even go underneath the ocean bottom and look 'up' at the rocks and plants.
I prefer he camera the way it is though, and it's freedoms, and just have learned to use the movement responsibly (for lack of a better word).
I reall like being able to stand down on the deck by the deck gun and such and move all around the sub. Adds to the realism of the environment to me.
As for the swaying camera, I do believe that setting could be reduced/removed to make the camera stationary, but I like the way it simulates the rocking of wave motion. Just personal preference I suppose.
One thing to be careful of, is with both the deck station view, and the follow (next ship) cam, you can completely move the camera away from the sub and across the ocean. then the camera stays where you last left it. So, this means that if you hit F5 and go to the deck station, then move the camera out to sea far away, the next time you hit F5, it will be at the last 'out to sea' position, and not on the deck. And you may not find your way back with it.
I advise using the F11 to move all around the world, as that resets, and always keep the F5 on the deck somewhere.

That has anything to do with the operation of the sub it's self. None of the operation of the sub have been touched in anyway. Only the reflection part of it and how you see them from the ship's and sub's.
Check your mod's out you have installed because my batteries do not have a problem charging to 100% and I have ROW installed on my on Game.

....my batteries do not have a problem charging to 100% and I have ROW installed on my on Game.
No battery problems here either, at least not with ROW.
Also if your batteries stick at 99% and won't stop recharging just switch your engines to a normal propulsion loop and your fuel consumption should come back down to normal.

I will ask l3th4l if he will make a seperate camera mod that has the Terain Collision perameters back into the camera. But it will mean that you will not be able to walk the deck as easily on the ships in the game.
As to the movement you see when you change camera views and the constant movment you experience in high sea's it was to try and create and atmosphere you would experience in real life being on the bridge or inner compartments of the sub as it is pitching and rolling through the waves.

@kriller2
Yes I came to the same conclusion (see my previous post) although since my card has 768mb I suspect the problem isn't so much that I haven't got enough video ram but more that, for whatever reason, the sea foam textures are not kept in video ram but rather swapped in and out again as they are needed. Whether Leo can do anything about this I'm not sure but I would guess that he can't. It may be an Nvidia driver issue or it may be that the devs didn't allow for caching..
Windows dosn't always alowcate on it's own enough virtual memory to make things run as smoothly as it should so for my own PC I usualy match my virtual memory settings to the amount of Ram I have installed manualy.
Also since patch 1.3 came out the Game no longer uses the disk for the game so everything is run from your hard drive now only.
Even though the new video card's have their own internal video ram it still nedds help with both physicle ram and virtual ram to run a lot of graphics.

We could start with my lightning questions on the previous page... ;)
Yes the Dev's did have most of the work set up for the lightning to work in the game but they didn't set up all the perametors for them like matching up the Cloud and water reflections and sub reflections for them to the actual lightning working in the game for starters.
The more I worked with the lightning emmiters I realized that every thing had to match up between all the Omni settings in the Materials files as well as the Actual Particles emmiters in the Particles file. Once I did this I was able to start getting the lightning to work. But at first all we had was a test mission set up by Captain Cox to do all of this and get it set up. Once we got it to work perfectly in the Single Missions we found out it didn;t want to work in the campaign layers.
So what I ended up doing that made the lightning work for my game. I deleted the entire SHIV save file from My Documents and then added the lightning work to the game using JSGME and started the game with a new Carrier and Campaign and let the game build a new save file in My Documents again.
This fixed my problem and got the lightning to work in the Campaign layers as well as the single missions.
But there is several key triggers that seem to have to be in play for the lightning to actualy happen. The clouds have to be at a level 2 state and there has to be rain as well.
If those 2 perametors do not happen then the game just makes the thunder noise like there is a storm way in the distance that is making the wind and wave conditions. So you hear thunder like there is a storm near by just not actual in it.
But there is something missing some where in the game files that makes this all work without going to extreams and force the game to use it.
Everyday I try to read the text part of the files you can only see in HEX editing to try and find that one part which has eluded us. Unfortunatly since my stroke's I can not HEX edit so when I find anything that says lightning in the Hex read part I ask someone to look at it for me to see if it is an adjustment we canmake to fix the problem.
So the process of this is slow with my Physicle limitations.
You know Leo,I'm as happy as a pig in .... with both your wonderful mods but, there is one thing that from time to time bothers me, and it was there before these mods were even introduced into the game.
To me, the stars at night often seem like they are placed in front of the clouds when I'm looking out at the night panorama.
Am I just seeing things,or have you or anyone else noticed that anomoly?

That is why you can see the sun's halo through the sub's hull and why when the sub's hull is placed in a camera view after and before a sun set you can see the sun's halo effect through the water.
Also why the lightning appears through the sub's hull. I have a feeling there is something in the Shader files that controls this but again with no program that works with them it is up the the Hex readers to find the problem in them and try to repair it.
This is also why the crew becomes transparent as the fog starts to build something to do with either the shaders or game rendering.

I wanted to add a note regarding the sun-halo effect and the ability to shine through solid objects....
If you have a Nvidia card and enable a feature called...Gamma AA correction you willl loose the halo effect...but as a side effect... the sun will no longer seem to miraculously shine though solid objects....
Perhaps a better understanding of how Gamma AA correction works, would help. Here's a detailed description from the Nhancer website....http://www.nhancer.com/ (http://www.nhancer.com/)
"Gamma-corrected Anti-Aliasing"
"Also starting with the 7x00 line of cards, nVidia introduced another new option that can be added to all anti-aliasing modes: the Gamma corrected Anti-Aliasing.
This option only changes the selection of the in-between colors, that are used to smooth the transition at the edge of a polygon. The reasoning is that monitors are not linear in their display of colors and brightness, and the standard, linear way of selecting in-between colors is therefor not ideal.
If you enable gamma-corrected anti-aliasing, the result is that the edges are usually slightly less visible than without this option. But the effect depends on the monitor you're using and how this monitor is configured (brightness, contrast, etc.).
This option doesn't cost any performance."

First of all if you have released Mod's yourself you know you are the only one that controls what happens on the main thread page.
It is easy when you are the only guy involved and have only your content and changes to post and take care of.
Well I am in control but have other guys bringing to me new stuff and repairs that I am supose to make shure works and is set up in a way so that the download and install dosn't create a lot of problems to lator end up dealing with.
So much has been happening I haven't had time to answer all the questions timly before a new one is posted.
Also havn't had time to update the large main file so instead been just putting the add on's out there for you guys with fix's and extra's.
Right now I am trying to put together a new Main Download for new people with all the stuff posted in it. But give me some time. Even super compressing the files and havning a high speed DSL it takes over an hour and a half to get it up if there are no problems where you have to reupload it again.
Because I did not do the HTML README I can not change it just don't know how to do that. So I will make a Normal readme file and I hope get it set up where there will be a minimal of problems.
In the mean time for the install questions I hope I can count on the comunity to help because I am getting over whelmed with all of this and burning out fast.
I need someone to send me in a PM a Picture of your JSGME set up that shows an order of install With T.M. 1.6 then NSM 3.3 then this mod that I can post on the main thread page please.

Yep that's been one of the things that always annoyed me, being able to see the lens flare from the sun right thru your conning tower! Also the "see-thru" watch crew. Haven't had chance yet to see lightning but that might bother me too if it is shining thru my hull :yep:
But hey, I'll take what I can get! I cut my teeth on sub sims nearly 20 years ago with MicroProse's Silent Service II on my Amiga 2000. Looked like total crap compared to unmodded SH4 but somehow it was more addictive than crack! Now thanks to ROW the SH4 graphics are mind-boggling. I'm just waiting on a mod that will bring back that "addictive" SS2 gameplay.
Won't hold my breath though, I'm thinking that addictive quality of SS2 was a combo of my youth at the time, plus the total novelty of actually having a kick-ass computer. No "modern" game has ever recaptured the "magic" of those early, graphics-poor games for me :( God I hate getting old...
BTW, I finally got to see some ROW sea foam briefly. Actually had 14 m/s winds for nearly an hour of gametime, where before it was at constant 0 m/s! Looked fantastic, but strange happenings. I'd be looking at this gorgeous foam from the conning deck, and it would suddenly, instantly disappear :( Then a little later come back, then instantly disappear again. Anyone else seen anything like that?

As I recall the halo, lighthouse, search lights can always be seen through the people, subs and other ships. Been there since SH3. Someone had a fix in SH3 for it. But there are bigger fish to fry at the moment.

In the mean time for the install questions I hope I can count on the comunity to help because I am getting over whelmed with all of this and burning out fast.
OK men, you heard it here. Give Leo a break so he can work this out. Leo is enhancing the game. Some things he can not fix.
For example, see through people on the deck and lights you can see through the sub/ships/people have always been there. As a developer posted the crew is not part of the sub scene while on deck and the see through problem happens. This can not be repaired.
Anyone one in the community that can help answer questions for Leo, please do.

Can someone send me in a PM or something a Picture of an order of install with JSGME that I can post on the main thread post?
That includes Triger Maru and Natural Sinking Mechanics and then the correct order of install for ROW that I can post for people to see.
I can not do this with mine because I have ton's of over writen files renamed to god knows what to make all this stuff and see all the new work and adjusting other files that people have asked for.
So I am asking the community can you please get me a picture of this to post and I hope it helps with these problems.

The ROW Scene install lightning smoke was replaced by ROW Special effect's with NSM Classic so you had to allow a lot of over writing to happen to do what you did.
I am looking for a cleaned up Picture of a JSGME install to post that will stand out and show up for people to notice rather than blowing it off as oh ya more to read.

Everyone will have to wait for the downloads. One of the testers have a 9yo and we will make sure she can handle it so if that happens then no one can flood me with PM's and messages here saysing what do I do I have this and don't understand that.
Too many people are by passing the info others are posting for questions and answers. and just adding onto the confusion and problems.
I will start work on this TOMARROW for now I am going to go play my game and unwind! I will not answer more questions on ROW until I set it up for download again.
When I do post the downloads just toss out everything you have for the people that do not understand when to install what when.
The new downloads will replace everything you have. If you do not read and understand something ask before you install it.

You no longer need the ROW Scene install folder, OR the Hollywood effects folder.
All of those things are blended into, or replaced by, the (1) folder "ROW Special Effects W/NSM".
Here are the ROW folders you need, only;
ROW Textures
ROW Sub Refelctions
ROW Ship Reflections
ROW Misc Reflections
ROW Camera Mod

An observation rather then a complaint.
I notice that certain graphic details are effected by the horizon, such as a hip on fire that has capsized; the fire still burns but vanishes when the flame reaches the horizon and I mean a clean cut. Also when standing on the bridge at dusk /dawn the crew seem to be translucent when the horizon runs behind them.
Regardless, those sunsets are fantastic.

Translucent crew on the bridge is how the game came fresh out the box. It is not fixable per the developers. As far as you fire deal. Post a screenshot so we can see what you are seeing.

Speaking of observations;
Leo, was there any adjustment made to the "draw-in distance" of objects? Particulary noticable is the rocks and plants of the ocean floor.
Head for the shallows and you'll see the viewable distance is greater than the 'draw-in distance'. Meaning the plants and rocks suddenly appear before your eyes, say 20 yards out, even though you can visually see nothing there for 50 yards.
I'd love to see the draw-in distance extended a bit. I know this came up when the 30 and 60 underwater visibility mods were first released, but I don't remember the draw-in being this obvious before now.
Just a curious question. Not really a concern.

10-01-07, 05:24 PM
Monolith...there is a way to make that distance greater by adjusting the Camera parameters for the ObjectView in the Cameras.dat file using the Silent 3ditor app.
Open Node- dummy_Objectview - CameraParams- ClipDistance - change the value to 0.1 or greater.
Just remember that the larger value means that the closer you get to something the sooner it will be cut out of the scene.
It's the same technique thats applied to the Bino cam to get the shears and conning tower to not be seen.
I've applied a higher clip-distance value to the object cam and have noticed that the rocks and sea floor foliage no longer "pops" in and out of view anymore.

You worked hard last night and I hope things go well with you today!
One question - as always - what special effects version do you use if you don't use neither version of NSM, nor TM 1.6??? Not that it affects me, because I use NSM classic.
Sorry, being a programmer, I'm always on a bug hunt, even subconsciously, the result being that I instinctively try to think of all the different permutations of things that might happen given a certain situation. This is one possibility that I didn't see covered.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with the sequence of your JSGME. I hate to say it, but maybe look to a different problem.
Just tossing out ideas, but try a Defrag right after the clean install. SH4 will install all over the drive. And that will affect how it loads and performs.
Have you used the High Res foam before? That could lag your loading as well, and combined with a fragged install, might cause a crash.
Just looking for any options. I think your ROW sequence looks Ok though. You could try to activate each mod folder one at a time and try the game, until you get to the one that crashes it.

Kriller2 made a new set of under water stuff because too many people were experiencing slow down's in under water view's so they were adjusted and toned down.
And some minor stuff here and there but nothing that would absolutly require you to reinstall every thing. The main reason why I did it this way was to try and stop the confusion and problems.
All I am looking for now is another JSGME install immage to post for the people who might still have questions on order of install.
Bilko you do not absolutly have to have NSM 3.3 to go with the Zone's effect files but it is sugested for the inner workings of it is all at it's best for sinking and attacking ship's.
He reconfigured the inner compartment's of the shpis to specificly work with those zone's file's. The original zone's files did have as many compartments for ships set up as it does right now.
Once compartments are numbered and labled then they get linked to the Zone's file for flooding and effect's.

Can you keep the oil and the burning oil for a longer time on the surface? e.g. double the time?
Your mod is really great!!!!!

Especialy with effect's. When that is done oil sliks and the fire's for them will last a lot longer yes.
For the start we wanted a vs of the mod that almost anyone can run on their PC's but it is in the works with a lot more fire effect's and smoke effect's.
Just a time consuming process lot's of testing and adjustment's involved.

OK, I dumped all the original release files. Downloaded the new files. I activated in sequence as you showed. Pretty simple. I do not use TM so it did not play a factor here. I then added Oakgrooves textures and Capt Cox hat/insignia mod. No files overwritten with these.

All of this should be easy as pie for you anyways LOL!!! :rotfl:
Like I said all I need is a nice JSGME image showing the install with and around other mod's that can be posted on the main page.
I can not use the other one seeing the files were renamed to fix how it all worked so it would be less confusing.

I have recently installed the game, all its updates, as well as the Reflections mod and a couple of others. I use the JSME mod enabler.
The problems are with several textures found throughout the sub, where I see a small purple and pink checkerboard in place of the textures. It happens in different subs, in different places.
I am running an Athlon 4000, 2 gigs of ram, sata hdds, nvidia 8800 (360mgs) on win XP- sp2. I've got the latest drivers for the graphics card (163.71).
The game runs great- except for the screwed up textures.
Any thoughts?

I've got a feeling the problem's with the 8x00 series of drivers. I'm running Vista with a 8600GTS (256MB), and some of the textures like to "shimmer"... this weird effect that makes them look like they're normal one fraction of a second and sliced up into a shadow effect the next fraction. All the other textures appear decent... well, except for the missing crew eyes after a while... oh, yeah, and the blank conversion sheet that used to be the gramophone interface, now included in TM1.6 (I think).

Leo and Team,
Just one last request. You can get rid of all charts and ambiguities in the minds of those who are chart-reading challenged by changing the names of the modules slightly to reflect load order.
They would become:
1 ROW Main Load Screen
2 ROW Textures
3 ROW SUB Reflections vs1
4 ROW Ship Reflections vs1
5 ROW Object Reflections vs1
6 ROW Camera vs1
7.1 ROW Classic Zones Special Effects
7.2 ROW Light Zones Special Effects
8.1 ROW_Classic_Sea_Foam
8.2 ROW_Hi_Res_Sea_Foam
9.1 ROW Classic Clouds
9.2 ROW Slower Clouds
9.3 ROW Very Slow Clouds
10 ROW Sound Effects vs1
Then the name of the module would indicate load order. A decimal number would mean that for that ordinal number, you would have to choose one and only one of the set. Between 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 you can only use one of them. And if you chose not to install one of the modules, as long as the remaining modules were in numerical order you'd be ok. That would be the final solution to all questions, ambiguities, brain farts, confusion and other disruptive postings about "what order should I be installing these in?" THEN peace would be upon all the land. What do you think?

I am slightly upset i can't seem to run the hi-res sea foam without a stutter when moving cam around
Is this due to my pc spec ?? specs below
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Abit IP35 Pro
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz
Thermalright SI-128 CPU Cooler

LiteON DH-20A3P-12C 20x DVD±RW x12 Ram Dual Layer DVD-Writer (Black) - OEM
Western Digital WD2500KS (need new one or maybe 2 asap)
All in a great ...........
Lian-Li PC-G70 Aluminum Mid Tower - Silver
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x86
Got latest drivers and vista is up to date patch-wise
I have nice glare and run in what you would call 4x anti-alias (basicly the same settings for SH3 that are configged already in Nvidia control part)
Is this card not up to the hi res sea foam ??
If not would i be better flea-baying it and getting a gtx maybe ???

All in all some high specs on your machine. Are you also running Anisotropic Filtering? If so, what level? What resolution is your monitor running? My overall system specs are lower than yours and I have to turn FSAA and AA all the way off, but I get smooth performance with high rez sea foam (and all the other ROW stuff) as well as the in-game graphics sliders all the way to the right.
It's always better to get a faster card, but until you do maybe try knocking back the FSAA a little (or turning it off).

I use 4x AA (higher will remove the sunglare with nvidia cards) and 16x AF
I prefer AA and AF over high-res seafoam

p.s. Theres one slider that works opposite.. Left is better.

Hmm... I have an 8800GTS (EVGA 640MB - 580MHz) as well, but I'm running the hi rez foam just fine. I know it's subjective but by fine I mean 40 to 70 fps (it flits up and down between those extremes) when I'm in an outside type view in moderate to heavy weather.
I use 4x AA and AF at 1680x1050 with the 163.69 drivers.
Other important system stuff:
E6600
4GB Mushkin PC2 6400 4-4-3-10
Explosions and fire at close range are what get me though.

Can you recommend any specific drivers for the 8800 that might work? The screwed up textures are not a big thing- the game runs smooth regardless.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/RockinRobbins13/Silent%20Hunter%204/Reflectionsonthewaterdealbreaker.jpg
I just realized looking at the moon in my game time and time again since Rockin Robin's posted this and his question. One he is looking at the moon at an angle with the camera to check the size of it.
You can not do that. The camera slowly distorts size and shape as it get's more off center from what you are trying to see. The only way to compair size with the camera is looking act the object with it dead center of the screen to get an actual view of the size and shape.
Also unless he is using filters for his game I am not why is that moon not white? If it is Seeadler's moon from his mod then ya that moon is actualy a differn't size than the one we have set up and using for our work.

And seaniam81 only when it is close to the horizonal line and you have to look at it head on directly center camera view to see the actual size. As it rises the sun and moon both slowly get smaller but if you look at it center camera view it is smaller. Why is your moon yellow and mine is white?

JD
I have 35-45 frames with hi-res foam, the problem comes with explosions and fire.
I have made my own seafoam on 1024x1024 textures.. looks great, works perfect in all conditions.

And seaniam81 only when it is close to the horizonal line and you have to look at it head on directly center camera view to see the actual size. As it rises the sun and moon both slowly get smaller but if you look at it center camera view it is smaller. Why is your moon yellow and mine is white?

Hiya's,
Just posting back about the 8800 gts vidcards
I tried all vista drivers from day 1 to latest beta, Alas in 4x AA etc the hi-res-sea-foam stutters
Me thinks maybe 4gig or more of ram may help slightly but looks like the gts at x4 can't cut the mustard :(
Overclocked like no tomorrow and still slight stutters
BUT .......... The classic foam is still awesome :)
Obviously lower card settings may help
If anyone does manage hi-res-foam on the 8800 gimme a shout ;)

What the heck Leo, half the time my chin is on the keyboard in utter amazement. I can not get to the shift/F11 keys due to my chin and sometimes with the drowl on the keyboard my finger slips off these keys anyway. Every once in a while I'm able to snap out of it to take a screenshot! Really man, nice work.

My only guess is because my moon is very close to the horizon so it has alot more atmosphere to go through making the moon change colour. Trucker moon is yellowish too. But my moon was white when higher when I sent a cargo ship to visit davy Jones.

I have seen a ton of moon rises and set's in my game with and with out fog with and with out cloud's and never have gotten a yellowish or cream colored moon. So there is something up with that.
Do me a favor and add this to your game then do a picture with the moon dead center of the camera looking at it. Then snap a picture for me.

Mine is set slightly to the right side of the center. But if a picture is too dark to see what I want I always use my picture program to enhance the lighting a bit just hit the auto exposure fix and let it do it's stuff.
Other wise they come out a lot darker.
But I did realize something today AvgWarhawk with asking them to download and use those files and take a pic. I forgot to add the halo to the mod for the moon. DUH!!! Always something. But that's okay soon enough there will be anew texture file as we are working on a new halo for the sun and maybe another sky and reflex pack if the idea's actualy work well in reality.

I move the ingame gamma until the mid-day lighting looks like mid-day lighting to my eye. Usually just right of center.

I don't see the yellow in my moon, but that could be a monitor thing. I need to look at the pic on another monitor to make sure I don't have color problems. I took that one at sunrise, so that might cause a yellowish cast. too.

QX6850
4gb Crucial 4-4-4-12
8800 GTX
Vista 64bit
I run at 1920x1200 with no AA but I've tried lower resolutions which all have a similar issue (albeit slightly less).
I've already mentioned it a few pages back but the high res foam causes massive stutters. Even the lower res foam causes a stuttering issue although nowhere near as bad. At all times if I pause the game I can circle round the ship without any stuttering so I am still guessing that it is the swapping in and out of the textures that causes this issue. I've tried just about every possible setting in the Nvidia control panel. Nothing makes any real difference.
Does anyone NOT have stuttering with Vista and an 8800 card?
Does anyone NOT have stuttering with Vista and an 8800 card?
Like I said above... no stuttering under most conditions.
The only qualification is that occasionally, when I get too close to large fires or firey explosions, the frame rate will drop dramatically and stay that way in the external views until i exit and restart the game. I think it has more to do with the sound than the graphics though.
I have the following spec
Win Xp
Dual core 6700 overclocked to 3 ghz
2gb memory
8800 gtx
I run the game at 1680x1050 on full detail with no AA or AF
The game runs fine for me with the HI RES sea foam, possible could be that vista
is the problem, but I'm no expert just guessing.

Hiya's,
I know at first nvidia said they had somewhere between 10-20% less graphic performance (whatever they measure gpu's in power-wise) with vista compared to xp due to having to fix drivers (vista aint exactly a 1 day make n release OS guys you had some time to figure drives then again ms can be a bit coy with data etc lol)
They reckon they had clawed the deficit (xp driver performance to vista driver performance) down to around a mere 10% drop in performance now running vista instead of xp so maybe this vista 10% drop causes slight probs ?? I really dunno
Maybe OS but unless someone dual-booting or using soley xp with a 8800 gts we may never define a problem to the Vista OS/Vista Drivers
Heck the foam i use is fab anyways but eye-candy is good if you can have it :D lol
Anyways i am off to shoot another few hundred pics while i get killed err i mean patrol lol

Just wanted to weight in my 2-cents on the slowdowns people are experienceing. I also had them even on my 4800 X2/w 2 gigs ram & a 8800GTX on vista32 with a Azuntech XFi-Prelude.
I run All maxed settings ingame/everything enabled san V-synq @ 1920x1080 with 4x gamma corrected AA & 4xAF
And i tracked down the issue (adleast for me) to be having realistic sound travel time enabled when the hollywood effects pack screams would happen, because i got the same exact explosion using the submarin torp-training mission once with, and once without the voice effect going off.
And without the screams my fps stayed in the 60/80 range, but with the screams going off it crippled to 5/12 fps while it was playing, then stayed at 25 fps till i restarted the game.
Hope this helps the modders and community in tracking down what it might be.

Confirmed then... it's what I was thinking... the frame rate drop is related to sound, not video.

Sorry for the inconvience but I forgot 2 of the textures for the mod.
One original made for the Sun's Halo and the Halo for the Moon Kriller2 made. Plus there is just a slight adjustment to the Reflex pack for the ocean that makes it a bit easier to see the surface of it in the opposit direction of the sun set's and sun rise's. Thanks FooFighter's for doing that slight reflex adjustment.
There is more work being done in these area's that will rework a lot of the textures but that will come at a lator time after it has been fine tuned and well tested.
In the mean time I just wanted to get the mising files to you all and again sorry I missed them!
They can be added at any time to your game so there are no worries about it seeing it is just texture stuff.
Again sorry I missed this the first time. Just deactivate the first texture pack you have and activate this one instead.

I like it very much, i had a X-meridian with LM4562 op-amps custom fitted to it running on my Headroom desktop amp and AKG 701 cans before i grabbed this card, i'd say for music it isnt quite at the XM's level in terms of detail and soundstage imaging, but in any multimedia or gaming application it simply blows it away.
I would say it was well worth the price and the wait, and once they get the final drivers out and add in the full Digital functionality it will be the defacto card for the audiophile that also likes games.
So overall i think you have a real prize coming your way soon :D

Without seeing a screenshot it's hard to say, but the mod does create the real pitch/roll of the sea, and you get the effect all through the sub, as well as the bridge. It is more noticeable when your moving the camera.

The cameras file In ROW was tweeked to give a bit of angled motion when you pan the camera .Thats the slanting motion you are refering to. Movement was slowed ,as well.
It's a simple fix for both if you are familiar with the Silent 3ditor application.
If not..perhaps Leovampire could be convinced to include an optional Cameras file in the next update of ROW that does not have the slanting motion included... and speeds the movement up a bit.
Cheers!

This isn't the issue I'm getting Phase05. The problem occurs in any outside, above water, view regardless of sound when seafoam is active and the simulation is running (not paused).
On another note... I've noticed that the smoke from sinking ships switches off as the ship starts to sink and a fire goes out. Switching off as in the entire column of smoke vanishes rather than just stops being generated. I can't remember whether this happens in vanilla SH4. Can this be fixed? Or is it normal?

I wanted to address this seeing I know what is happening now after going over ton's of game file's trying to solve it.
The sub's hull's have all kind's of lighting and reflection map's DDS files made for them but none of the conning tower's or Scope tower's have these set up in the game.
All of these would have to be made just like for the sub's hull's. So far as I know none of the team know's how to do these type's of map's. So unless someone that does want's to help us with this or make a mod of their own to add them to the game we are up ****'s creak with out a paddle! Or until we learn how to do it ourselve's.
All of us are trying to learn new stuff to make this mod even better just slower to learn than work with what each of us already know.

I posted on here before about massive stuttering on a pretty High End rig with dual 8800 Ultra's and you said to reinstall SHIV and start again...
Ok, I did uninstall, delete any files left over, reboot, reinstall, patch to 1.3, install tm1.6 gfx, then tm1.6, then tm1.6.2, then your ROW stuff...
I'm getting CTD's now.
EVERY PATROL, at somepoint, will just crash out to desktop.
I don't know how to paste in an image, but I have an image of my installed mods and I wanted to double check that what I'm installing is correct and in the correct order.
I may seem a bit thick on this but you have so many options and newer versions of these alpha files I'm totally lost as to the correct installation list and sequence.
I've tried installing the earlier versions first and then OVERWRITING them by installing the newer versions on top, but that doesn't seem to work either.
Please, can you help. What was a great and reliable sim is not a huge sucky pain in the ***...

Finally Friday and getting some good time in. Just wanted to take my turn to express my thanks to the team for all this outstanding work. I cant believe the changes in gameplay form the original out of the box version. Thank you!
And your welcome Mr.Beast and Monolith.
A while back some questions were posted about strainge effect's with the reflections of the conning towers and Scope's towers at the top. Strainge gray lines and also some gray coloring instead of the actual color of those part's.
Is that whats going on here?
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/5466/picketfanceconntoweruj7.jpg http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/3977/picketfenceconntower2hj8.jpg
That is a small part of te problem yes. Only part of the sub's have the proper lighting and reflection map's not all of it. Other wise the caustic and reflection enhancment's we did for the mod would work on all of the sub part's. The game dosn't treat the conning tower the same way as the sub's main hull or it would create a shadow on the deck when the sun and moon are in the right possitions for it to happen.

I don't know how to paste in an image, but I have an image of my installed mods and I wanted to double check that what I'm installing is correct and in the correct order.
Just type out the mod names, in sequence, as activated in your JSGME, and I'll try to help.

The other camera mod's do not have the change to make the object's appear almost the same size in all outside view's. So that solves that problem right now.

:(
Thanks
Elphaba

I went over the old post's to make sure because there was only 1 person I ever told anything like that and all I said was to get rid of all of his saved games and start a new Capaign. And that was to to make sure the lightning worked in his game and I did apologize to him because it didn't happen like it did for me.
But you need to list in order what you are running for mod's right now in your JSGME set up and tell us what you have for setting's in the game and on your video card for us to try and help you out.
Never ever would I tell someone who has a game working properly would I say you have to uninstall it and reinstall the game just to make 1 mod work for them! If I was ever told that by a guy who made the mod I would tell him to stick it up you know where high enough to hang a flag on it.
Okay buddy!?

For all outside view's that give's the sun and moon very close to the same size. What we did was give the other outside view's the same setting as the bridge in Angular Angle which is 75 deg.
The other camera mod's out there do not have this set up to straighten that problem out. Serguboto was the one who put us on the track to fix that issue that drove me nut's.

what is causesing this any answers to this little prob i have?

I posted a new camera mod that stops the angle change when you are panning the camera left and right. Thanks to Canonicus for giving me the quick answer I needed to solve this problem and make the changes to get the camera back out that changes this effect.
The new camera download is at the top of the main thread just bellow the start of the downloads. If you want to use this camera over the vs_1 one deactivate the other camera mod for ROW and the activate this one so you will not have an over write that is not nessasary.

Thanks to Kriller2, l3th4l and Jaketoox as well because without all of their talent's in other area's and the time they took to learn new trick's it never would have been this big a project.
Again Ducimus this is just the Alpha release to allow the comunity to help us find thing's we missed for a start. Plus there are a lot of thing's planed and being worked on to finish the project to the point we originaly wanted.
Next is Beta with a lot of new suprises and add on's for the mod.

Last night i was droping of an agent and when i let the raft go it was flikering green. I'll post a screenshot when i get home from work.
On the subject of TBTs and limiting the angles... I thought these boat (or at least some of the later ones) had both fore and aft TBT mounts? If so, limiting the forward mount may be technically correct, but as there's no provision in the game for a second TBT aft, wouldn't it be better (ie, more accurate from an operational standpoint) to leave it as is?
Also...
Running ROW with latest textures and stuff and encountered this little bit of tree texture weirdnes around Java....

We just havn't gotten around to a work around for it yet been to busy with other things for the mod.
What we have to do for the raft is remove the reflection effect we did and it will go away. Not every object has the proper DDS file's for this and some of them the game gueses on how to create it. Once we tone it down to nothing it will go away. Another guy posted pics of it and everything.

We had originaly had this camera option for the mod and there was a lot of tossing back and forth about it as far as is it good to have not good acurate or not. All went on for a while. Then do an alt tab to let's say the internet and e-mail's the sound effect's for the inside of the sub and or the wind get caught in a loop and can be heard inside camera view's and outside. I always have to reload a save to make it stop. So I try not to run the game unless I am sure I am done with the internet. I hait that sound loop.

See if that makes a difference or not disabling the realistic sound travel in the sound options. Or maybe changing the number of 3d sound channels with the slider. The only other sound I am unsure about from our mod is the Hollywood sound effect for the screaming men it comes into play on explosions and collisions with other ships and object's.

You know what would be really cool is if we could somehow get the *stars* to reflect off the water at night! Also, what's with the dearth of stars, anyway? I see more stars than that when looking up in the night sky in Newark, NJ. ;) Is there any way someone can paint a proper picture of a dark pacific sky in the middle of nowhere? Anyone who's been on the Pacific (or any ocean, for that matter) at night, where the starilight is the brightest light source would know what I mean...

What I need to know is what this mod does to framerate. I have a pretty marginal system. Thanks.

Eek. I think this may have a lot to do with your sound stuttering. With a seperate soundcard, the hardware on the soundcard will take over some of the processing from your CPU, freeing up your CPU and allowing things to run smoother.
With onboard sound (motherboard), all the work is done by your CPU, and your sound processing abilities become very limited.
I would definately turn the 3D sound slider all the way off, and the realistic time travel should be off as well.
I have a decent sound card, and the time delay sounds still bog me down.

Every system will vary, but I can honestly ssay I have not taken any FPS hit at all with ROW. I have a marginal system as well.
Best to just give it a try and see for yourself. If it runs well for you, the mod is well worth the effort.

I ended up installing some of the ROW mods because I thought the framerate dropped to low (for me). Using ROW in conjunction with Trigger Maru slowed things down too far and the mouse cursor got very sluggish (I hate that) so I'm using Real Fleet Boat for the realism mods. This is still a work in progress...
DISCLAIMER: I'm not saying that ROW or TMARU are "frame killers". Each system performs differently. I think TMARU and ROW are awesome and I respect the time and effort that went into producing them. :)
My system: Athlon XP 3000+ 2.17Ghz 1Gb RAM nVIDIA 7600GS AGP 256M XP SP2
I ended up with this configuration so far and am quite happy with it:

Can anyone answer this? I asked the question a few pages back but I guess it got a little lost in the deluge of posts!
I've noticed that the smoke from sinking ships switches off as the ship starts to sink and a fire goes out. Switching off as in the entire column of smoke vanishes rather than just stops being generated. I can't remember whether this happens in vanilla SH4. Can this be fixed? Or is it normal?

The representation of stars is absolutely ridiculous in the game. They are way too big, way too bright and twinkle way too much.
Billko, you can not see more stars than those seen in the game. They have tried to implement stars to the fifth magnitude, and more can not be seen with the unaided eye.
Also, stars do not reflect from an ocean. Such things only happen on mill ponds.
I was a merchant sailor as well as I am a hobby astronomer, and you will only be able to see stars to the sixth mag even under the best of circumstances.

Agreed. Dangerous Waters has exactly the same problem - stars that are way too bright and reflect off the water. I had to edit the stars' datafile to tone them down to a reasonable level. If anything, SH4's stars are too bright as they are, to make them brighter or give them reflections would be way over the top.

Star's are not set up to reflect on or off of anything. Yes we did brighten and adjust the star's a little because not all of them were showing up originaly and it had to be almost totaly dark before you ever saw one. We made it so they started to show up at dusk instead of the original stock set up. near our home's now aday's there is so much lighting from the city's that it actualy obscurs what we see in the sky but if you go out in the Desert there are ton's of star's and they are very bright and easy to spot. So seeing your out in the middle of the ocean I wanted to try and recreate that effect.

If you are using your mother board to run the sounds you can expect a lot of game slow down's between graffic's and sound effect's. The mother board use's both the CPU and Physicle and virtual ram to play all sound effect's. So you should be good to go once you get and actual sound card.

We had originaly had this camera option for the mod and there was a lot of tossing back and forth about it as far as is it good to have not good acurate or not. All went on for a while. So we did away with that camera and stuck with the other. But BillNichols and a few others like the camera limitations so asked for me to post it again and I did. If you don;t like that camera then use another one and please let sleeping dog's die.
Wow. Sorry. Not looking to ruffle anyone's feathers.
We need to see those pictures of what you mean about the tree's please so we can figure out the problem you are talking about.
Then I will ask the apropriate person who did that work to take a look at it.
Look at the picture I attached. See the light outline around each of the planes that form the leaves and branches? That's what I'm talking about. Again, not looking to ruffle feathers... it's not bothering me at all, and it only shows up at close range when there's a little bit of fog in the air... just thought you might want to know.
I'll just sit down over here and be quiet now...
Sorry my bad jdkbph and when I see old argumants pop up I just kind of slap myself on the head and go OH no not again LOL!! Only human as much as I try to keep personal life out of this place in thinking reply's and attitude it dosn't always work.
Anyways the pictures you posted are showing up as a box with an X in the middle of it that is why I asked for pictures. Just don't suck your thumb in the corner or I will feel really guilty.
The problem is the fog effect that is outlining the area's of the tree's. Just like the crew start's to become transparent when the fog start's. And many other effect's start to show up as well.
I am investigating a fix for this problem and have an idea what might work but until I can get back to port in my own game can not test the theory I have because it is the type of setting that effect's the entire game so if you do it in the middle of a Patrol the game crashes. I will and should have more info about this soon I hope.

Basically, say you have a tanker with a fire going on it and a column of smoke rising from the fire. The ship starts to sink... As the fire drops beneath the waves it goes out ... which is fine but the column of smoke rising from the fire vanishes completely. It SHOULD just stop being generated and the column of smoke gradually dissipates to nothing. I should point out that the ship is still there and still sinking at this point....
Hope that makes more sense!

Being away from the game today :( and finally now having another quick few hours i am awestruck again :)
Man the waters so friggin cool and real looking i wanna weigh anchor and do a spot of fishing for the crew lmao
Anyways i am now only gettings a fraction and i mean .2 of a second (guesstimate) slowdown when mega explosions go off (like now i sunk a comp freighter and she went up finally like a bomb lol)
This is with classic zone effects + classic nsm
With me using onboard sound i have looked at a local'ish store for a soundcard
Can anyone in the "know" tell me if this will do on my rig that's running Vista x86 ???
Abit ip35 pro

Leadtek 8800 gts 640
2 gig ballistix
2 sata hd's
2 DVD Burners
etc etc
"Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card"
It's about 35 quid ($70) and it will be for sims as i don't really mess with music
Hope this will cure my very slight glitch now (deffo as explosions etc occur you see the fraction of a stutter)

I have had good luck with all of the Sound Blaster card's over the years so it sounds like a good bet for your system. It will help with the running of all your video games. Most video game's print on the box the fact that you should have a sound card as well as video card spec's.

It is contained in the Light and Classic vs of the zone's effect's down load's they now say vs_2 so grab the one you want for your game and remember it is a good idea to activate them while in port and not in the middle of a patrol.

I've had this happen a few times.
Is it possible you were damaged? Were you attacked at all during the patrol... even if nothing was ever reported damaged or everything damaged was reported - and is showing - completely repaired?
The reason I ask is that I strongly suspect that we can sometimes incur damage causing a fuel leak that doesn't show up anywhere in the game other than as reduced range.

I have changed what was needed to get all the smoke effect's for the fire's both small and large as well as the funnel smoke from ship's so they now disipate into the air instead of just ending like was mentioned a few time's in post's here.
It is contained in the Light and Classic vs of the zone's effect's down load's they now say vs_2 so grab the one you want for your game and remember it is a good idea to activate them while in port and not in the middle of a patrol.
Enjoy everyone.
hey there Leo,
Short question.. I have a slightly modified scene.dat.
Does the smoke fix have anything to do with the scene.dat ?
Or is it included in an other file in that mod.
I use the light version..

Pardon the plethora of screenies, but I couldn't help myself. This is all with Krillers wonderful new effects.
Some notes: All of these screenshots were taken on a lower end system (AMD XP3200+ Socket A 32 bit processor, 1GB memory, Evga 7800GS 256MB video card) at 1280x960 resolution, 4xAA, no AF. This gives me decent frame rates and there is no noticeable difference between stock and this mod. All of these screenshots have been reduced in quality to cut down on up and download times and my bandwidth at Photobucket.
All that having been said, here they are:

Awsome pics DT! How do you get the camera to lock on to airplanes though? In SH3 you would hit the "." next target button but that doesnt seem to work in SH4. I use TM 1.6 and ROW if that matters. :88)
