Leo I certainly hope you are getting your rest....People can wait to have the stuff fixed..
are wonderfull! I have just been in the pacific and the airplanes don't sound like vacum-cleaners anymore! :rotfl: Good work LukeFF and Leo.
Only critism is the engine not turning off when standing still.
Kriller:
I think someone down the line somewhere said they kept the idle engine sound on because usually subs were running thier diesel engines to power lights and stuff.
Dave:
I am staying at version 1.3 because it's just not worth being forced to play a game without your effects! Hang in there and just go at your own pace. :)

...Tonight a programmer buddy of mine, who is in the Army Reserve, was hammering out some code next to me when we started talking and something in our conversation got him to quote the old "our colors never run" slogan, then he paused and quipped, "come to think of it, our programs never run, either." :rotfl: :damn:

Same here! I'd much rather wait until everything is complete, and then install everything at once, instead of bit by bit:yep:

HAHAHHAHAAAAAA, Gold .... :rotfl:
Only critism is the engine not turning off when standing still.
Keeping the engines running when at All Stop had a two-fold purpose: (1) being able to move quickly again when need be, and (2) the diesels were needed to run the machinery inside the boat without running down the batteries. After all, they were diesel generators, not just diesel engines.
Just to elaborate a little, the main diesels drove generators which in turn supplied electrical power to motors which, through reduction gears (kind of like an automobile transmission) drove the propeller shafts. The generators also supplied the boat's electical power. Some boats had an auxiliary diesel genreator (called a dinky) that could supply the boat's electical loads if needed. Botton Line: Unless the boat was connected to shore power or running on the battery (rarely happened on the surface) there was a diesel running

Okay. Thanks for the explanation all I will take it back
On to topic: Leo how is it going? - I think we all are waiting on a new scene.dat to use with ROW, so it would be abosutely wonderfull if you can take a look at that as a first priority.
Keep up the good work and take it easy if it's possible to do both :hmm: :rotfl:

this was a great addition Luke. I dont use your entire sound profile. I only use most of it. which files enable the engines to be heard running while at a stop?

Using TM 1.7.2, RSRDC TM Compatible, and Leo's ROW 1.4 compat mods, getting an eerie 'glow' on the water that is in contact with the sub, not so noticeable during a clear day, but at dawn/evening and nightime it is very noticeable as an almost phosphorescent glow around all edges of the sub that connect with the water, I know its a long shot, but has anybody seen something similar in game? I like the rest of the effects too much to remove the mods, as you can understand, just hoping that someone has experienced the same and been able to identify it. :arrgh!:

Cap'n Dave,
When submerged the USS Seadragon uses it's batteries for propulsion
When up top aloft it uses it's diesels to replenish these batteries
The rate of charge is fairly low as most know
To ultimately charge better without wasting diesel or more efficiently you have to lower the diesels rpm
The moral is, Cap'n Dave you must allow your own Seadragons batteries to recharge to the max thus allowing a full charge if required/when required in the future, And at the moment your batteries are stationed at the most apt place being the hospital
Ohh and any nurses glancing across reading this on his laptop, If he gives you some plastic wiring with a plug on the end DO NOT try to find a socket for said wiring somewhere's along the telecom lines outside hospital boundries !!!
Also if he mentions WIFI and talks you into thinking it's somert to do with star wars trilogy just be informed it's nowt to do with sci-fi films but another of his cunning ideas lol
You just GOTTA try n REST up Sir and let yourself recover to the best you can
Please Take Care of YOUR HEALTH FIRST
With Kindest Regards

I would assume the creator of the bubble-mod is working on it for this latest 1.4 patch
Give it a week or so and if not posted ask on the main forum
If it was included into ROW, Well you'll have to wait til Cap'n Dave gets back to sea and his crew mates (other modders working on row) sort everything for this latest patch
Have Fun

I used to until the last time I "visited" the VA for a few days. Wake you out of a sound sleep at 2 (after a wonderful 3 hours sleep since their last visit) to give you a shot of blood thinner in the stomach and take your temperature and blood pressure, then tell you to have a good sleep (for 3 hours until they come back again).:damn: And then they wonder why you get cranky and your BP goes up:rotfl:

In dutch we have a saying: geen nieuws is goed nieuws. (no news is good news). But the message: LV is going home is great news. I do not know Dave (Leovampire) and probably never will. But there is something funny going on here. When i come home after a long days work, there is the daily routine: walking the dog, watching news, spending time with my family and checking the e-mail. AND now since I play SHIV checking the SUBSIM radio room forums, to see how the mods are doing. And suddenly LV is not there anymore (again). not for a day but for many days, and strangely: i get worried. What's going on? So glad he is home, but I cannot wait to get into port to install the new version. Because then i'll know. He is not only home, but alive and kicking!! For all you out there. Have a nice christmas and a very good 2008 for you and your loved ones. Now going down to kill a few more merchants! Aniuk

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes that I heard about from Francisco while I was in the hospital. Torps sent an e-mail to my address that posted all the things you guys were saying and he printed them and gave it to me.
So thanks Torps for that it was nice of you and you all helped to chear me up!
I figured you would have moved on by now and forgoten about me ;) .
Just kidding of course! :D I know you guys and this comunity better than that.
For Christmas Francisco got me a lap top for the times I am in the hospital if he didn't tell you about it. A Dell XPS Extream Gamer lap top so I could play the game and work on it.
So I have been hard at work on the mod to say the least and getting a lot done on it.
I will be uploading some of it and posting it soon.
You will find a lot of new work as well as making the mod not only 1.4 compatable but also 1.4 capable seeing there is a new graffics engine that can do more.
I will explain what has changed and what is new with each of the downloads when I post them.
Anyways it is good to be home to say the least! Had a hard to find blood clot in my heart and because the pain got to bad for me they decided to do a catherization on short notice. This is when they go into the Femeral Artery in the crotch area and thread a wire up into your heart with a full time xray running so they can see it all as it happens. Because I was not off my blood thinners recovery time is very long to make sure I do not bleed out interneraly and or externaly.
Oh well I came through it and here I am anyways!
You and this comunity are the best friends a man can have and your thoughts helped me out a lot!

I took stock game files while I was in the hospital and worked with them.
So for the time being there will only be a stock special effects folder for ROW.
I am for the time being leaving the ship reflections out of the mod. I could not find a reason for the reflection problems with them so instead what I did was gave the ocean a better capability to show the reflections of objects.
The same goes for land based objects but what I did do is reworked and enhanced the search light work for the ships and land based objects. But left the signal reflector alone to advoid the problem that was around before. Also due to the new game engine that shows land masses and their color changes sooner distance to sub and camera wise I have increased the min visable distance settings of all land based objects to work with the new game capabilities. Originaly almost every object in the game was set to 1 to 10 in minvisdim now they are all at 500 every tree and building in the game now become visable close to when the ground colors are visable in the game.
Due to an old promise I made about working with the sub's wakes and foam effects I have encorporated new work in the sub reflection and roll pitch part of the mod. Only the subs are done working on the conning towers now as well. All subs will now have duel kick up from the props if they have duel props. The subs wake will now look and work much better in the game with smoother transitions.
I have worked on the ocean more to give the subs and ships in the game more stormyier effects and get more reaction out of them but to do this I had to lower all of the subs surface running height by a foot to keep them from doing the occastional flying sub routine.
So in the sub reflection work you will find 2 new files in there a val file and a cfg file.
The cfg file has the fallowing changes:
All the subs sit 1 foot lower in the water on the surface.
I added my telegraph speed mod to the cfg's as well so ahead 2/3rd's will be a good fuel conservation setting in your game. And Ahead 1/3rd and back 1/3rd will be silent running speeds when submerged. Also changed snorkel depth to 30 feet for a good radar depth.
I hope the changes will be acceptable to everyone it was the best way for me to create new and better ocean effects people seemed to want according to the poll Pantherclies did with what he was working on before the patch.
So in conclusion this is what you will have:
A new sub reflection download
A new sky and ocean control download
New texture download due to some new smoke textures and all textures will be in TLowRes and TNormal to make sure no one has any problems what so ever.
A new special effects download for stock only
A new Object reflection / search light download.
For now while I work on the rest of it.
Uploading stuff today and then will post them.
Welcome back Dave! Glad to see you're still in one piece my friend. Be well:up:

#3. ROW Reflections for All game object's: Sub's ships and a lot more can be added to game at any time without problems.
#3a ROW_Sub_Reflections_and_Roll_Pitch_vs_5 (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Sub+Reflections+and+R5rar/;9287298;/fileinfo.html) This is new work with more file than before in the download as well. Now all sub's with duel props have duel water kick up. Reworked sub wave and foam effects. New work done with Roll and pitch to work with new ocean effects. So you will find a new .val file and a new cfg file for all the sub's. Contains my Sub telegraph speed mod for a start. Snorkel depth changed to a good radar depth 30 feet and ahead and back 1/3rd is now silent running when submerged and runnng at ahead 2/3rd's will give you a good fuel conservation speed. All sub's surface running depth lowered by 1 foot. Posted on 12/19/07 1.4 Compatable
#3b ROW_Object_Distance_Reflection_And_Searchlights_vs _5 (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Object+Reflections+an5rar/;9287218;/fileinfo.html) This file has the distance of view enhanced for all shore based objects in the game to work with the new game engine capabilities and set up. Originaly all objects were set to 1 - 10 in min view distance now they are all at 500 so they can be seen about the same time land comes into full color view or close to it anyways. Also contains new work with search lights both ship and land based as well as light house lighting. Problems with the DC drops have been eliminated. Posted on 12/19/07
1.4 Compatable
You will find some changes in the sub reflection mod.
For starters 2 new files. A CFG file and a VAL file for the subs.
The cfg file I had to do because of new ocean work for the meaner sea states at 15 mps winds. I needed to lower the subs surface ridding height by 1 foot on all the subs.
Here are the changes highlighted in the cfg files:
[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=18.3;meters
SnorkelDepth=9.144;meters this is set to 30 feet for a good radar submerged depth
CrashDepth=40;meters
MaxDepth=100;meters
SurfaceDepth=4.805;meters what ever this was originaly is now 1 foot lower
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=30;meters
StormConditions=9,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]
[EngineProperties]
AllStop=0.00
AheadSlow=0.20 silent running submerged ahead 1/3
AheadOneThird=0.40 good fuel consumption speed ahead 2/3
AheadStandard=0.60
AheadFull=0.80
AheadFlank=1.00
BackSlow=-0.20 silent running submerged back 1/3
BackStandard=-0.30
BackFull=-0.50
BackEmergency=-0.70
The new val files are for reworked bow and stern wave and foam effect work and also all duel prop subs now have duel prop water foam kick up. Work being done on conning towers now will be ready soon. Matched up the 3 wave effects for the subs to look and act much better in game with calm waters and ruff sea's with more water kick up from the bow and props.
In the object and search light work all problems solved and new work done to lights to create a more realistic effect with better lighting work as well.
All DC drop problems solved as I left the ship to ship lights alone and did not include these files so there would be no compatability issues. New vegitation files so I could extend the min visability of all land based objects to work with new game capabilities. The original values were set at 1 - 10 I have uped them all and tested them at 500 now so they become visable a lot sooner than in the past to match the land view better.
I was much calmer and quieter and a more pleasent person to deal with! :rotfl: :rotfl:
:rotfl: :arrgh!: !
Good news are always welcome, Leo, we all are glad to know that you had the possibility to work on this great game, and not to get bored !

#6. ROW Zone's and Special effect's: If the textures are the Heart of the mod then which ever one of these you use is the fun part of the ROW Mod. Only 1 can be used in your game at a time. Only the Sea Folder from NSM is needed to make it work correctly. YOU Should be in port to add one of these.
#6a ROW_Special_Effects_with_Stock_Zones_file_vs_5 (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Special+Effects+with+5rar/;9287250;/fileinfo.html) Nothing other than ROW textures is needed with this due to fire, smoke and oil slik texture dependancy.
This has been made 1.4 compatable due to changes in the zone's file with patch 1.4 changes. New Smoke effects also included. You can not use the NSM ship's with this! NSM changes the internal compartments of the ships and change the zone's file! 1.4 Compatable Posted on 12/19/07
Okay for now all I did was work with a stock game zones file for this part of the mod till I can see who else has a zones file that I need to make changes to.
There was a new game zones file in the 1.4 patch so I had to redo the work for this from scratch.
Also the particles and materials files are now totaly 1.4 compatable with new smoke fire and lighting and reflection work.
Again this is for stock game ships and any mod that used original zon files for any new ships.

#7. ROW Sky and Water Controls: This contains all my Living Breathing ocean work and all of the work on the water reflections and sky controls and how the sun works in game. Due to popular demand star's sun and moon have been resized. I have incorporated as much work from other modders as possable in the scene file. Not all of the weather change's I made to the scene file work right until you get to port and start a new patrol also if you have your Time Compression higher than 256 then weather wind and wave state's take longer to change. I made changes for the weather to change in game more often but do not take effect until you are in port.
#7a ROW_SKY_and_Water_Controls_vs_5 (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+SKY+and+Ocean+Control5rar/;9287240;/fileinfo.html) This include's My work with reflections and sun halo and Living Breathing Ocean and the rain mod and the visability mod and the under water visability mod also reworked fog effects to work with new game engine and distance visability. This is brand new work and. posted on 12/19/07
1.4 Compatable
Totaly reworked 1.4 compatable scene file and environment files.
All ocean and reflection work is revamped to work with the new game engine and to give more storm effects for the 15 mps wind states hence the rework of the subs part of the mod.
The game now uses fog totaly differntly in game. So I reworked the fog effects distance viewing in a way where it actualy creates a fog bank when looking at ships and land mases during in game fog use and appearance. Fog effects are now a true effect not just a way to keep us from seeing further than the game could handle.
I am still working on this though due to new issues with horizonal distance fine tunning.
Now ships become visable when the smoke from the funnels become visable with new work done there. You will see the ships on the horizon just before your crew can. But I made it so the crew can spot ships before they can see you so you can make convoy and task force contact radio reports to enhance game play. BTW the crew uses this ability when on deck if using scopes at radar or pariscope depth the limits of the crew are the limits of the scope view settings. Crew on deck will see further. But you can still see the ships before the crew does.
Gave the ocean the ability to show in game reflections of objects and ships an enhancment adjustment.

#5. ROW Textures: This is the Heart of the ROW Mod. Can be added to game any time without problems. You have a choice one with the sun halo having a camera flair and one without the camera flair. Can only use one texture pack at a time.
New fire, oil slik, Sky, Ocean, lightning, Color's, Land, Sun halo, moon halo and a lot more.
#5a ROW_Textures_With_Sun_Camera_Flair_vs_5 (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Textures+with+Sun+Hal+57z/;9287382;/fileinfo.html) This is the newest work for the mod. New smoke textures are in the download. Also to advoid past problems with fire and oil sliks not working right for some all textures are now in both TLowRes and TNormal files. Also has a new moon halo I did not get a chance to add before. Posted on 11/08/07 1.4 compatable
#5b ROW_Textures_without_Sun_Camera_flair_vs_5 (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Textures+without+Sun+57z/;9287427;/fileinfo.html) This is the newest work for the mod. NEW smoke textures are in the download. Also to advoid past problems for some all textures are in both TLowRes and TNormal files. Also contains a new moon halo I did not get a chance to add before. Posted on 11/08/07 1.4 compatable
You will find some new textures in here for the Moon halo and smoke effects and fire effects.
All textures now in all parts of texture files to stop all problems with people running lower end textures in game to advoid the pixel fire and oil slik problems.
Contains Jaketoox repair file for the object on the water screwed up effect. I saw his post on it and added it to the files before uploading them so his repair is in this part of the mod. I hope you don;t mind jake!?

This is how you do it.
Find the file Commands.cfg
Data/Cfg/Commands.cfg
Open it with word pad
at the top under edit click on find.
Type in the line Snorkel_depth then click on find next
You will see this:
[Cmd195]
Name=Snorkel_depth
Ctxt=1
Str=1033
;Key0=0xBA,C,"Comma"
Delete the ; I highlited in yellow then save the file and close it.
Now when you want to go to radar depth just hit the ";" key on the key board and you will go to 30 feet.
If you want it to say this in your message's from the crew you need to do this.
Find the MENU.text file.
Data/Menu/Menu.text
Open it with word pad.
under edit do a find 1033=Snorkel depth
Change it to 1033=Radar Depth 30 Feet Sir.
then do a save.
Now you will see this in your message center when the crew calls the order out. All you will hear is yes sir but you will at least see this. Radar Depth 30 Feet Sir.
Welcome Back Dave!!
I haven't downloaded a thing but dang dude, talk about dedication!

BTW the internal ammo compartment on the big ships can now cause a cascading explosion effect if they are breached. The explosion is intense enough to go from compatment to compartment and sink a ship and anything close to it from life boats to other ships and YOU!
So keep your distance do not get too close to a big ship as you might be in for a rude awakining very quickly!
I gave an increasd sphear of influance to some explosions to make them more devistating. So all fuel oil and ammo has a big bada boom! Both above and below water.

I can now see trees on land clearly at over 4000 yards with a nice fade in effect as they show up Kriller2. Before you almost had to be on top of the land with a camera to see them under no fog conditions.
Now you can see tree's ports and buildings much much further away.
I did this to accomidate the new game graffics engine capabilities and the row camera capabilities. So ground based objects can be seen at much greater altitudes.
Original game values for this was any where from 1 - 10 minimum

I worked with the Atneuation factors as well to create a more realistic effect vs position of the camera and how you are looking at the light comming from the ships.
So you can get that search light effect we see in real life.
This is what I used for info on how to do it.
The Searchlight Effect was reported, unwittingly as usual, on the front page of the Sunday Times for 2 January 2000: describing a powerful green laser beam, Bryan Appleyard wrote "Its beam followed the meridian north out of the park, passing well to the left of the dome and then across the Thames where, to our eyes, it vanished although apparently it went on for another seven miles." Sometimes called the Searchlight Illusion, this is not an optical illusion but simply a misinterpretation of what is quite correctly seen.
http://mysite.du.edu/~jcalvert/optics/srchlite.gif When gazing at the 'end' of the beam, Mr Appleyard was looking in the exact direction of the beam, seeing it at a very small angle so that the intensity of the beam appeared great, though it was actually being attenuated by atmospheric absorption as it went. The weaker the beam became, the longer the length of his line of sight along it. This effect keeps the beam bright right up to its apparent end, which makes the effect quite striking. When a number of strong searchlights are directed upwards, each shaft of light appears to end in a point whose location depends on the direction of the beam. Stars can be pointed out by a lecturer to her audience using a strong laser, and the beam will seem to end near the same star for any observer.
The figure illustrates the origin of the effect. A is seen behind the beam, the beam seems to pass behind B, and ends just before reaching C, with regard to the observer. The effect persists for an observer a considerable distance from the source of the beam, but when this seems to happen with a distant searchlight, the reason for the termination of the beam is more likely to be the limit of dust or haze in the atmosphere. The difference can easily be identified if the beam is moved about, however. If what is observed is attenuation of the beam, it will also be obvious at a distance from the weakening of the beam, in contrast to its rough constancy in the true Searchlight Effect.
Unfortunatly the game only has an A and B setting for them no c setting.

Glad you like the new work I did AVGWarhawk!
Paid a lot of attention to detail this time in the rework of the scene file.
I love the new game abilities and how it all works and comes into play!
And now that we can refit at any and all alied ports it is awsome!
The Dev's did a good job in the new patch I am having a ball working on the mod stuff no more fights to get the effects I want.
Just had to learn how it all works now.
Fog is no longer just a visual control to keep the game from going beyond limits of the engine. Now it is a living entity and effect in game so new ways of adjusting things and thinking had to be done.
Great to see you feeling better and back with us!:D Thanks for all the new updates...I'm looking forward to trying them out. Merry Christmas Dave!

For the moment I am finishing up the conning tower foam and wake work for the subs that I started to to to match the new work on the subs.
And I have started to work on the missing phrases and sounds for the game again seeing it was not done in the 1.4 patch.
So until I have one or the other done it will be a while for any new releases.
Also Duci has some of the same files in his mod work that the sub reflection part of the mod does.
If you want both to play half way well together I would add TM first then the row Sub part of the mod.
You will keep the new wave and foam work but the sub might ride funny in the higher wave states.

Always willing to look at and double check things about this mod.
As far as I know there is no problems at the moment but there are always things you miss seeing in game that others might catch.
So please keep me informed so I can look for these things.
Just like when I get back to base I will be looking at the light houses per the Kriller2 post.
Well off to bed good night everyone.
Leo, a couple of things still nag me about the trees. For one one thing, they are too hard-edged and don't blend in well with the surrounding environment:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/LukeFF/SH4/SH4Img2007-12-19_230459_625.jpg
Secondly, when viewed from the bridge, there is still some ugly artifacting going on right above the treeline, as seen here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/LukeFF/SH4/SH4Img2007-12-19_225710_875.jpg
Lastly, when zoomed in with the binoculars, there are some little gray lines that rise and fall from the trees. I've circled them below:

And, there's also the issue of the halo/glow from the moon being hard-edged as well and not blending in with the sky. Those are the biggest things that stand out for me at this moment.

Hi Leo love your mods, I wanted to report that i have the same issue with the light houses and trees as Kriller2 posted, my starting port is perth.
Also im getting alot of danceing, jittery, jello.. water when looking through the binoculars or moveing the external cam.
Thanks for all your hard work on ROW and get well soon.

Hi LukeFF.
I better answer this ;) The reason why the trees have those artifacts is because I resized the trees textures to half the size of the stock trees (before the trees where double the size of the houses!), untill we get the posibility to resize the object holding the textures for the trees we are stuck with these artifacts, but when the new 3editor is coming out with support for 3d-objects I will take a look at it again or if anyone knows how to resize those trees without resizing the texture they are more than welcome to take a look at it :ping:
About the colour: Yes you are right they do stick out a little, this is because the trees is made of one texture in f.ex. green which then have to stand on a background which changes as the time goes by.
#Leo I unstalled the previous ROW files and added your latest files without doing a reinstall of SH4, so maybe that have something to do with it? - I will try doing a reinstall of SH4 and see if the strange lights disappears when near a harbour and if the trees appears naturaly on the landscape.
BTW Super work you did on the new release!!, the ocean reflects more naturaly now:sunny:
Thanks for the explanation, kriller. Hopefully one day we can get this fixed.

Glad you're back safe and sound, Leo! And a very nice christmas present you've brought to all of us! I'll be enjoying it after the holidays though, I'm off to my parents' home on Saturday and I won't have access to a computer until I return in a couple of weeks. I don't know if I'll be able to log on tomorrow, it's a mad dash to finish some projects here at work and I hardly have time for forum browsing! So I wish you happy holidays and take good care of yourself, skipper (where is that "salute!" emoticon when you need one...)!

Well, for the first time in a thunderstorm I saw evidence of lightning. I saw flashing, but I never did see the actual lightning bolts. But then, the fog was quite heavy and visibility was limited to approximately 30 yards (if that much). But it was great to have that flashing effect finally.:)

When I redid the particles and Materials files to make them 1.4 compatable I applied the same wind coef values as before. But I did notice that before I did this when looking at the old files something wasn't done on one of the old Funnel smoke effects.
Maybe the new additions made the difference.
I will work on it again for the funnel smoke wind coef and get a new special effects file out soon.
BTW your the second one that mentioned it Torps did as well in a PM to me. I think applying the coef to all of the nodes is what changed the set up where as before I only did it to the primary wind coef node.
I will post a message as soon as I change things and double check it.

Can the ROW Sky and Ocean Controls be added on top of other ROW mods ?
I've been playing with (and install order I've been using is) -
ROW Object Reflections
ROW Sub Reflections
ROW Textures without the Sun Flare
ROW Classic Seafoam
Trigger Maru-1.7.2
RSRDC for TM v118
I'd like to add -
ROW Camera
ROW Special Effects
ROW Sky & Ocean Controls
I'm assuming I'd add after the other ROW stuff, but before TM & RSRDC (?). In the description for Sky & Ocean Controls; it reads as if there's stuff incorporated from other ROW files. So, is it ok to install this over the other ROW stuff ? Is there a particular install order I should follow ?
Thanks,

The only thing that is totaly dependent on anything else is the Special effects download. That needs the ROW texture file because there are some special visual files it is dependent on.

I do know there is color controls for the sun and the sun halo as it is a fix we were working on for the halo color due to the new blue skys in the mod.
As to some changes in the scene file the game will not accept some of them. Like changing the amount of light the sun and moon produces and changing the influance of the fog the game just will not load with them.

As to the brightness of the sun and what not they are in the Scene file.

But the after math is what s*cks having to stay still for so long without moving to make sure it seals up where they went in.
As to what AVGWarhawk went through well I can't say ya or ney to it. Personaly after all I have gone through it dosn't bther me the idea of it. Rather go through that than have my chest cut open again and have my ribs moving around and grinding together again.

#3b ROW_Object_Distance_and_Reflections_Plus_Searchlig hts_vs_5B (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Object+Reflections+anbrar/;9293487;/fileinfo.html) This file has the distance of view enhanced for all shore based objects in the game to work with the new game engine capabilities and set up. Originaly all objects were set to 1 - 10 in min view distance now they are all at 500 so they can be seen about the same time land comes into full color view or close to it anyways. Also contains new work with search lights both ship and land based as well as light house lighting. Problems with the DC drops have been eliminated. Posted on 12/20/07

Now to fix the funnel smoke problem with the wind.
I wish they had the same settings as the search lights for ships so I could actualy create the beam effect for night time and the fog layers. Would have to make a sim file just for the light houses alone to make it happen I guess.
But at least the light house light beam now shows up at 4500 yards away where as before it was about 1500 to 2000

Leovampire, just wanted to report that I'm getting a real bad flashing of the sea. The conditions are 15 mps winds but no precipitation. The sky is starting to clear after several days of thunder storms. There is no thunder and when I pan my view up at the sky I don't see the flashing, only when I look at the sea. I'm using all of ROW that is 1.4 compatible including high-rez sea foam, but no camera mods. It's constant and somewhat fast like a strobe light.

#6a ROW_Special_Effects_with_Stock_zonesfile_vs_5a (http://files.filefront.com/ROW+Special+Effects+with+arar/;9293730;/fileinfo.html) Nothing other than ROW textures is needed with this due to fire, smoke and oil slik texture dependancy.
This has been made 1.4 compatable due to changes in the zone's file with patch 1.4 changes. New Smoke effects also included. You can not use the NSM ship's with this! NSM changes the internal compartments of the ships and change the zone's file! 1.4 Compatable Posted on 12/20/07 This includes all slow smoke adjustments from much earlier mod's created.
I know it is a pain but again sugest your in port to add this to your game.

Oh, I also switched to Jaketoox sea foam because the high-rez is pretty tough on my PC. Might be something I did to the scene file. That file can be very touchy at times. If you go beyond a numericle value the file accepts you can screw it up permanantly with the mini tweeker program.
I might have to make a new one from scratch again. Not sure have to investigate further.

Yeah, those HUGE elecromagnets in those MRI machines would have ruined your day. You would have looked like that guy in Aliens when the alien larve hatched!
.
Yeah, when I was in med school we had a patient die in the MRI after some numb nuts brought an oxygen tank (not the MRI-okay aluminum type) into there. Gotta be really careful in there =)
Good to see you back on the boards, Dave. Hope the ticker is doing alright.

I would not want to be that guy that made that Boo Boo!
It is quiet and not bothering me so far so that is cool but thanks for asking anyways. And it is good to be back as well.
I told the Doc's to stop telling me how bad it is as I just don't want to know anymore. So as long as I wake up I am happy and feel fine.
Besides I seem to know when something is wrong before they do anyways so I would rather go by my own experience with all of this now. I just do what they say and take what they give me and deal with it all from there.
is anyone having an issue with the smoke from the ships drifting down towards the ocean instead of the sky using the ROW special effects. in the first 1.4 version, the smoke from the ships rose high in the sky making it easier to spot ships from a far distance, now it blows or kind of arcs down towards the ocean, even with no wind speed.
thanks.

I'm using a Radeon x1950 Pro card with 7.11 drivers. I'm using 2xFSAA but no AF. No overclocking. If you need any further info, just let me know.
I do not use radeon cards so I might be at a loss to help you out. But a pic may help in tracking down a fix.
Hi' Leovampire hope you are feeling better, My queston is since i have a ati HD 2900xt ...Will i not be able to injoy your beautiful mods like i should?
Because im getting weird water stuff.... But no worries i will just start uninstalling one at a time till i find what is causesing this.
Just so you know, I realy do like what you have done with row.. and wish you all the best in your recovery.
Thanks again and merry christmas.
The ocean problem is either the scene file it's self or a new 1.4 shader file that is affecting my new work. I just have to figure out which is the culprit.
"Oh man how cool is that!!, Thank you for replying to my post,.. "Awesome!!"..

That people reported and didn't like. I lowered the wind coef close to the original work I did for them. Should be just fine now.
Both FooFighters and Torps told me about it and here is the repaired file.

Wells guys I am going off for 9 days, heading to WI to visit the inlaws and I think I'll stop by and visit the USS COBIA (Gato Class) up there and take some pics of her and post a few pics. Merry Christmas everyone, its good to have ya back, see what we mean by not the same around here?! Dave aka Leo !
Good morning Leo, I hope you had a good nights sleep my friend!
D/L the latest 'smoke fix' file but no luck, smoke still doing a curve straight into the water outta the stacks..... Here is what im running just in case I have missed something!

Thanks Dave, and I hope you are back to full seaworthiness mate!:arrgh!:
EDIT EDIT EDIT : I just noticed that I am still running ROW Textures with Sun Glare v 4, not 5, I must have deleted the new file and kept the old one in my rush to get it all up to speed..... I'll re d/l the v5 file, put it in and see what happens, be right back.....
Ok, redid my JSGME loadout after I d/l the newer v5 texture file, so JSGME looks as above but with the v5 file instead of 4, but no change, still get the bending smoke, and here's a screenie to prove it....

Dang, looks like material for a Viagra commercial.
Hello Leo, my smoke is also bending downward towards the sea. I have all the latest ROW installed as well and still get it. One question on order, i use T.M. latest one and RSRDC for T.M. My order is ROW, T.M, RSRDC for T.M., is this correct or should i have T.M first, thanks mate and take care.

Doesn't TM use part of ROW? If so, you would want to install TM first and then ROW so that any of Leo's latest changes will overwrite the files that TM uses.

Maybe the weight of blacksmoke1 and blacksmoke2 in the FastParticleGenerator of the node #funnel_smoke in the particles.dat is set too high ?

BTW due to over whelming requests in the past for it I found a way to extend the distance push for the exhaust of the big gun's shooting on the ships. For all medium and Large gun's. The fire blast will extend outward from the guns much further. And in the higher speed wind states the wind will carry it a bit more.
And trying to get the smoke to react differntly for the mod to work with the new textures. So far the results are good in the Midway testing mission.

I gave the wind much more influance over the ocean's surface in the new work.
What we are seeing is the density changes in the waves as the wind is blowing accross it now. Here is a high airial shot of the effect.

http://static3.filefront.com/images/personal/r/reflections/112772/vvkgfqfefy.jpg
It just looks funny to us right now because I had never done this in my work before with the ocean. I always kept the wind influance lower than it is now. Went from very low values like 1 and lower to 5 and higher now for the higher wind speeds. But I do think I am going to turn down the reflection effect for wave state 4 wich is between 12.5 to 15 mps winds.

Some say the water has a metallic look to in some weather, looks good to me. In fact you big lug, last night I decided to keep my rig that runs XP as I do not want Vista until a service pack is out for it. To much talk of problems with Vista. But, I want sun glare and halos found in ROW!! Better FPS. That said, I purchased a GForce 7800 GS CO overclocked card. I have the AGP set up and after many days of looking and comparing what is available in AGP, this is the card I purchased. Got a great deal for it also. So, if you are wondering if your work is any good, use my testimony of purchasing more hardware for better viewing of what you have going! Dave,
I really have enjoyed the new ROW work - ended up staying away from mods when I went 1.4 for a bit - then added back in TM, ROW, RSRD and NSM. I have stayed away from the special effects pack since it isnt NSM compatible - and I know that takes time. But what I am using is the best - really makes me be more "there" - without ROW sh4 lacks a whole lot! Thanks for the efforts mate!

Yep you have to love NVidia cards just can not beat them for thier ability to show some great effects with minimal problems.
But a good CPU is just as important so there is no slow downs in the game.
The new explosion effects can cause a slowdown as well as the new smoke work.
When I baug down my system to test it like my PC is a lower end one there can be a large slow down if you are too close to the effects camera wise.

Sorry at the moment I can not tell you ya or ney on compatability issues with other mods except for the subs part of this download.
Duci and I talked about it and have determind for now until I make one that works with his TM mod the sub reflections I would add to your game from ROW first then TM. You will lose some of ROW effects but get all the work he did for TM.
Once I have a chance I will download the latest mods and pull them apart and make seperate downloads that are compatable with other mods.
But this is not anytime too soon as I have to finish main work first then go from there.
Plus I truly would like to do new work and mod release before then as well. Like the phrases work and what not.

When 1.4 first came out I did a patrol without ROW and I realized how spoiled I've become!:o What you've added to this game has become so much a part of what I expect that I don't want to play without it. Take your time on everything, something this good is well worth waiting for.

When I was in the Hospital and played the game for 2 days with just 1.4 installed. It did not take me long to want to start to change things to how I had them or make it better.
I quickly asked Francisco to bring me a disc that had all the files on my Desk top for the game. :rotfl:
Another words I am just as spoiled as you are indicating. Don;t get me wrong the Dev's did an okay job reproducing some of the effects from the ocean and what not but it just wasnt right to me so I had to get all of the work back into the game.
So I totaly understand and relate.
BTW when I release the new Ocean controls and sky controls work there will be more sea foam effects that what you see in those pictures. I am working on making the older sea foam that appears last longer with new sea foam appearing as the old ones fade out in the higher wind speed states.
And I am lowering the effect a bit on the wind due to the high shadow issues most do not seem to like with the new work.
The explosions when a shell hits my sub or another boat looks quite ugly (in my opinion) and doesn't seem to look anything like the effect in the youtube video. Have I messed up somewhere?

Thanks for pointing me to it and I will take a look. Havn't had a chance to use the deck gun or get hit by one since I started the new work.

I feel the same way when I first ran the game with stock patch 1.4 it didn't took long before I added all our ROW textures to the game! :rotfl: and was waiting for you to take a look at the new sh4-engine and the way it has turned out is amazing, but I haven't seen lightnings in the game?

I am kind of new here, but I have noticed that after the last few ROW revisions I have water that looks like black chrome under some windy conditions. I am using an ATI based card and that may have something to do with it. Unfortunately I cannot just go out and buy a new card. I noticed some earlier posts that also mention this but did not see a reply. Am I alone in this problem?
Thanks for all the great work. I am really enjoying the sim now.

No, a few others said it has a metalic look to it. Leo is still making changes etc.

I have done some new work and fixed that problem in the new work. Just waiting to hear if it is all good to go.
The metalic look is gone in the test stuff being checked out now.
What it was is I increased the amount of smaller waves in the game which created a large number of multiple shadow effects come sun down and sun rise effects due to the angle of lighting vs the camera and where it was looking vs where the light was comming from. I greatly reduced the amount of smaller waves in the new work being tested now. So this ill effect is gone that you are reporting.
That is what i get for trying to create more of the oceans details in the game.

I will give a short run down on changes and why I needed the testers.
#1. Removed the metalic reflection effect when sun rise and sun down is happening in the higher wind and wave state's.
#2. Gave the wind much more influance over the ocean's surface effect.
#3. There is an increased reflection effect for lower wind and wave states with it dieing down to a very low level as the wind and waves increase.
#4. Sun Halo and sun it's self reflections on the ocean have changed so that they now point downward onto the ocean more.
#5. Higher wind and waves state's are much meaner and more aggrssive in nature and power.
#6. Fog bank created for game with changed fog effects and viewing distances for same.
#7. Changed sea foam effects to get more new sea foam to appear before old created is totaly gone in higher wind states.
Another words can we say overhaul in effect's?
The reason for the changes and rework is my quest to always try and create a more realistic world environment for the game with as much graffics enhancments as it is capable of handling and or creating.

Thanks for the reply. I have another question/observation. This may not have anything to do with the ROW mods, but I noticed that the subs tend to bob up and down in moderately rough water. It seems to me I remember sub being pretty heavy for their size and films I have seen shows them just sort of cutting through the waves without much vertical movement. Maybe the comes down to just opinion. But is the vertical movement something that is hardwired in or can it be changed?

The German's later in the war came up with some new method's for better Sea keeping but the U.S. sub's didn't have this. Unlike a ship which had much better sea keeping abilities it was not unusual for a sub to get tossed around a lot.
The amount of movment depends on the ocean state and the amount of force used with the engine's to counter it.
Just hard to get use to after playing with out much sub movment for so long in the game.
Most reports from people here that have been out in the ocean on war ships say the movment is much better for the sub's now than stock game. I quote, " Feel's like a round belly sub out in the middle of the ocean now and at it's mercy. ".
Most sub's use to dive in really ruff weather and wave's for long period's of time to advoid the effect's and sea sikness LOL!!
A sub's true design is for under water manuvering even to this day. No ocean going vehicle with a rounded hull on the underside handle's the ocean surface well. And seeing the sub's back then depended on the Diesel Engine fuel is always a consideration in long travling time's so unlike sub's of today they could not risk taking on extra water IE Weight to keep them more stable which is what they do now a day's for surface manuvering in ruff weather if they have to travel on the surface.

rocking and rolling, you should see the pictures in the book Iron Coffins of that U-boat getting tossed like a top. US subs were no exception. :)
Leo, i'm finally home from work (three months of training and living in a hotel!) aside from catching up on life i was able to make a full patrol and i just wanted to add what a spectacular job you have done.
The ship wakes' look so much more real, sunsets and moons are stunning, the sea looks great, explosions, smoke are very sharp, and i simply cant live without your roll and pitch, makes me feel like im back out on the boat!
You did a tremendous job Dave.

Before I am ready to get some testers together for the special effects changes I would like to know some opinions of the new funnel smoke effects you are all using right now.
Does the wind have too much influance over it for a start?
Is the trail of smoke okay or is it too long from the funnels?
Do you like the new density to it or should I say darkness of it?
Would like some input about it seeing you all have it right now.
Thanks ahead of time and again Merry Christmas everyone!
Dave
P.S. from the looks of it aside from a couple of minor adjustments the testing of the new ocean and sky work is a good to go thing so there should be a new download for it in a day or so.
Be ready for some ruffer sea's in the higher wind state's and some better reflection effect's.
my two cents...
Leo, i think they're perfect. You see the smoke just on the horizon, just at the right height and at the right time with good thickness the way it is now. It looks even better up close. From reading WWII books, I get the impression from the authors that you have really recreated what they saw with their own eyes.
It is constantly mentioned about the watchmen 'spotting smoke' first. And the way engines ran in the 40s im sure it was thick. :)
i think youve got it just right.

No, looks pretty good, meaning the quick fix you made for the smoke curling over to the water.
Is the trail of smoke okay or is it too long from the funnels?
The length is just fine.
Do you like the new density to it or should I say darkness of it?
A bit darker.
Would like some input about it seeing you all have it right now.

Merry Christmas to you! Glad you could spend it at home! I'm busy rigging up Wii for the kids and loading up the MP3 players I got them;)
Quick question...
Do the files alter the fire effects on ships? My fire is grossly pixelated and very blocky. :(

Hey Leo, glad to see your back and you seem much more like your old self than your first time out, I'm very happy to see.
Anyways, I'm having fun with the updated files and looks good in stock, even if it is a turkey shoot I can hang until things settle down.
But I do have a question on Nvidia CP settings. I have noticed that when Transparency AA And Gamma correction AA are set ROW will lose the Sun Halo and flair. I thought this was pretty strange, any thoughts? No big deal, just curious.

I believe this happens if you use low-res textures in your game settings. ROW wasn't set up for this.
