...riiiiiiight. As if dungeons aren't creepy enough. :o :haha:

I like making them more creepy! I've been playing with the realistic lighting mod and I think you're right on some of the interiors of shops and whatnot, but I absolutely love the pitch black dungeons that require you to use a torch.

For instance, a falmer scared the poopy out of me last night. Never saw him until he jumped out at me. I literally jumped in my chair and shouted. Good times.

Seriously though gonna check out those links again when I get home. :yeah:

Frostbite spiders are sexy!

Just kidding. I am just glad I can 2 hit the big ones, I don't even bother looting them. I want nothing with them, even the webs creep me out.

I am a manly man in real life, I'll give a list of my man achievments! I just have a thing about insects and specifically spiders.

I make my cats kill spiders I see in my house, the big gross ones on my huge moniter kinda turn my stomach.

At least my 2 siamese cats will eat a spider. While my full dragon/daedric armor having , dragon slaying, fire breathing, 500 hp plus having warrior shoots them from afar, then looks at the ceiling as he runs by the corpse.

Stopped using the realistic lighting this and that mods, in the end of the day,
they are just overlays which makes some scenes look silly.

Hopefully someone digs a bit deeper and makes a "real" lighting mod. :hmmm:

I learned that lesson in New Vegas. The majority of any lighting or coloration attempts is going to clash somewhere. It's like bestheda designed many of the textures and such to work specifically with whatever PPF or PPF like process they have running.

edit:
and sounds of skyrim is a pretty good mod. Ive been using it and loving it.

but have been quite pleased with ENB mods in other games. :hmmm:

ENB series? Nope, never heard of it. When you say ENB, the first thing that comes to mind is the MMO Earth and Beyond that was shut down some years ago. :haha:

The ENB series is a rather powerful post-processing thingamaling, can use custom
shaders and all that fancy pansy stuff.

Especially the one I tried briefly in DCS: Black Shark upped the GFX a lot. The
downside is of course that it can be pretty heavy to run.

Okay from what I'm reading... and the documentation, while extensive, is extremely confusing in my opinion... with this Realistic Lighting mod, I'm supposed to make whatever tweaks I want to the .ini, file, and "run" the .jar file, and that's supposed to create a "patch" .esp file that implements my tweaks into the plugin. But no such patch file is being created when I double-click on the .jar file and I don't know what I'm supposed to have in order to "run" it to make that happen.

It's bad enough trying to plod through all the technical stuff just trying to figure out whether some variable has to be increased or decreased to achieve the desired effects, without the added irritation of none of the tweaks actually working because something that should be happening isn't happening when I follow the instructions. :stare:

No, I *don't* gotta love them. :nope:

Can someone who knows these things please tell me the name of the program (.exe file) that is supposed to open this damn .jar file? Because I've now installed and uninstalled Java several times following the links provided both by Windows and by the docs referred to in the description of the mod, verify that it's working properly each time (according to the download site) and when I try to "run" this file I get an error about not finding something it needs or else the same DOS window flashes up but if there's supposed to be a "patch" file created, that's not happening.

From what I've been able to cobble together it seems the correct .exe file to select is javaw.exe. However when I do that I get an error about it not being able to find the "main class" in the file and my only option is to exit the program. That's as close as I've been able to get to making it do anything that looks like I might be on the right track.

Aaaand it gets even better. Maybe I don't understand how Nexus works, but I'm trying to ask a question about it in the Comments and it won't let me because it says I have to be logged in. I'm ALREADY logged in. :stare:

Edit: oh well was able to post something in the forums thread at least.

.jar is a Java executable, basically, or just an archive (based on .zip). You probably just need to install (or update) Java to have it execute correctly. :hmmm:

Dowly

One of the RL mods I used had .jar, the installation IIRC was like this:
1. Put all the files where they are needed to be (Data/ I guess)
2. Run the .Jar and it should make the RealLightingPatch.esp
3. Enable the RealLighting.esp and RLpatch.esp from the launcher->data files

AFAIK, the .JAR is there for if you make changes to the RL config. I didn't make
any changes but ran the .JAR just in-case.

Yeah, that's the one. And I've got all the files in the right place - they really all just need to be together in the same folder to run the .jar. I've tried it with them already in the Data folder, I've tried it after a fresh download and extraction into another location... but all I get is errors trying to run the .jar file. So something isn't working right, because Java is not doing what it's supposed to do with that file. I've verified that it's correctly installed, but Windows wanted to use 7z to unpack the file instead of running it with Java, so I have to manually tell it what program to use and I don't know if I'm selecting the wrong one, or the right one but it's still not working.

I'm getting bugged quests some have been bugged from day one from reading the replies online, the bugged quest are all side quests. NPC's I need to speak too or kill are not showing up doesn't matter if I wait 24 hrs or come back to it 2days later that elf mage is still not around! :damn: And I am suppose to talk to him well I got a better idea I am gonna kill him instead chop his elfie head off when/if he shows up. How rude of him that he makes a Nord wait! Another quest first it got me to run around in dungeons for 3hrs straight then I get to the last npc to hand in the quest and he just repeats the quest :damn:found out the only way to end it is type in a code otherwise it never ends.

Only running one mod - lockpick pro. On the plus side with the latest patch installed the game world has had touch ups everything looks 10x better and the game feels smoother (@medium/high settings)

I'm just curious to know how anyone else is getting the patcher to run properly. I've got to be doing something wrong, or don't have the program it needs, I dunno. Will keep checking the Nexus thread to see if someone there has any suggestions. Thanks for your help! :DL

In other news I finally got around to going back to the TotW with the Elder Scroll and I guess I powered myself up too much before getting there but taking Alduin down to where he gave up and ran off wasn't as hard as I expected. Granted I had Argis and Paarthurnax helping which I'm sure didn't hurt. Giving Argis that Absorb Health bow and sword was the smartest thing I've ever done. :haha:

(New strategy for encountering Imperial guards escorting Stormcloak prisoner:

1. Free prisoner
2. Get out of Argis's way
3. ?
4. Profit.

Seriously, just ran into another escort party outside Markarth. I didn't even have time to draw my weapon. Come to think of it, I probably could've dealt with Alduin by shouting him down and then hiding behind the Word Wall until Argis was done with him. You know what they say, the key to success in most endeavors is... knowing how to delegate. :O:)

And dang it, I was gonna summon a dremora to help cuz I knew there would be ham getting sliced all over the place and that's always amusing. But I plumb forgot in all the excitement.

Anyway, one Dragonrend and a couple Marked for Deaths plus some swipes with Dragonbane (plus whatever unholy damage Argis was doing) was more than enough.

Currently working on a new set of armor and weapons to commemorate the event and trying to decide what will be the best way to gear up for the final battle. I know it's gonna be harder cuz I won't have Argis to depend on and frankly, that's a little scary. :hmmm:

Yea, Alduin was pretty easy, the only deadly part with him is if you let him shout fire at you, then things get messy. Think with my legendary Deadric sword it took afiew power hits and abit of hack and slash and he died.

* bring potions of fire resistance, and some health potions. As always! your best weapons and armor.

* bring potions of fire resistance, and some health potions. As always! your best weapons and armor.

Thinking more in terms of what combo of enchantments to put on the new armor and (if I make them) weapons. Also, which weapons and whether to go in 1h with shield (which gives an extra two enchantments to play with since I'd have the shield equipped) or 2H and not equip the shield at all. Or maybe even relying on a bow... I've got two Daedric bows that I found in loot, just sitting there unused. I keep a soul trap on some of my current weapons but I won't need that for Alduin.

Altho it would still be nice for what comes before, and frankly it's getting to the portal that seems like the more daunting task. With Alduin I'll have some help, I think, but getting to the portal I'll be on my own. Except for the dremora I hope I remember to summon this time. :O: He's so much fun.

Potions are not a problem, I've got plenty of what I need and have stocked up on ingredients so can probably make some more before I go. Very powerful resist fire/frost and some resist fire/frost/shock plus a lot of restore health on hand because with fortify health enchantments on some gear I haven't had to use potions very much lately. But I may go with more "resist" enchantments for this new gear since I'm better at tabbing out to take a health potion when necessary, than I am at tabbing out to take resistance potions before I get into trouble. :hmmm:

Was finally able to get the RL patcher to run and get the "patch completed" confirmation window, but I had to open a Command Prompt Window and do it the old-fashioned way.

I completely uninstalled Java this morning, ran a registry check/clean to get rid of any leftover entries, and reinstalled it... and Windows still doesn't recognize what to use to execute the .jar file. If somebody knows the actual .exe file within Java that I can point it to, please TELL ME! I foresee a lot of tweaking to this mod and running the darn command prompt window every time is really going to be a PITA.

Ignore this:

java -jar "Realistic Lighting Patcher.jar"

That's just for me to come back and refer to in case I forget what to type. :O:

Alduin and named dragons in general gave me trouble my first run through the game. I was a 2 hander, with no sheild perk of elemental protrection, no enchantments, and no fire resistance of any kind to speak of.

I did however, have an ample supply of health potions. It felt cheap, but it worked. :O:

Just curious I download the file and installed. Do you have the Creation kit installed you can rightclick on any esp file to check it out but you probably already know that.

In Winrar - options - settings - integration: JAR should be unchecked. If checked yur get all these other folders showing with .Class files inside.

I extracted all the files in the Data folder using Winrar
doubled clicked on Relistic lighting patcher.jar - windows pops up stating patch is complete & adds a SkyProcDebug folder and Realistic lighting Patcher.esp

load up Skyrim - data files shows two extra files
Realistic lighting Patcher.esp
Realistic lighting.esp

go into game and Wow! Why didn't I try this before. My last save is in a cave Ive run through this cave 3 times last night cause I kept dieing by the Draugr Scrourge warlords  with the mod its darker in the right places so there I am running down the same path & passing scrourge's I didn't even see cause of the shadows. Splat!

Anyone recommend any other mods

I was going to try that Skyrim HD by Nebula but read it recommends a 1gig video card even for the lite version so never bothered. (9800GT 512mb card)

Their not graphics mods as such but Enhanced Dynamic Weather System with either Natural Skyrim Rain or More Rain mods,(More Rain mod seems to cancel the Natural Lighting mod at night though), are great for the atmosphere of the game ,the rain's not that little drizzle of the vanilla but actually can bucket down and you haven't fought a Dragon till you do it in a Storm at night while using the Realistic lighting Mod:D
Real Ice is a good one for making ice look alot better (not the plastic resin blobs of vanilla),and Realistic water textures and terrain will crank the water visuals and kerplunk's watery rock gives you nice wet rocks.

I don't have Winrar... if you're talking about decompression programs, I use 7zip or whatever it's called. JAR isn't even listed as a file extension in the 7zip options, checked or unchecked.

Anyway... I can use command prompt if I want to tweak any settings, but you know the funny thing, after all that... I went in and played several hours today with the RL mod enabled but no custom tweaks and so far it's been fine. Even went through a dungeon and it wasn't as bad as I expected, especially with Argis carrying a torch which he seems to do automatically if he has one. Some interiors are still a little dark but not as bad as what I remembered seeing before. So I'm going to leave it the way it is unless I see something that really bothers me.

Just saved in Whiterun on my way to Dragonsreach to summon Ohdahviing, thought I would finish up some business for the College of Winterhold while the Jarl got everything set up. Expected it to be a quick "retrieve an item and bring it back" but of course the item ended up being in a ginormous cave complex which was part Dwemer ruin and so, naturally, infested with Falmer. To be fair I could've gotten the item and turned around and headed back out but I figure I may never go back there with this character so why not clear it the heck out.

Anyway, finished that quest and now I can summon the shade of Arniel Gane altho I'm not sure what he does besides moan and groan. :O: Got my inventory pared down to the bare necessities (I hope) for the trip to Skuldafn and Sovngarde... trying to walk the line between not having enough room to completely loot everything I can on the trip, and not having enough good gear with me to make it back alive. :haha:

I got a new Daedric bow and went with a mace and shield combo for up-close encounters. Never used a mace before but it looked like it would do a little more damage than any other 1H weapon on its own. Both enchanted to absorb health and magicka. Got a buttload of potions and filled greater soul gems for recharging weapons as needed. Got Sanguine Rose to summon some major assistance, and since I'll be on my own and won't have to worry about AoE stuff taking out followers, I got my three "wall of..." staves on hand. Plus the Staff of Magnus because it ought to be good for something besides closing weird magical outbreaks in the middle of nowhere.

Now - off to take a shower and grab some dinner and then I gotta see a Jarl about a dragon. :D

^ Ok my bad I thought you couldn't get the mod installed, you want to tweak it instead. All righty.

I'm glad I install this mod it gives cave crawling a whole new meaning, I no longer take along companions just trying out different gameplay so far its been good going alone till I came across this Dragon Cult quest. My mission is to go and kill this bandit leader at Helm Hollow (side quest) I meet this camper along the way who asks me to fetch a mask (Siege on the Dragon Cult quest) in a cave nearby and not far from the side quest i am suppose to do so I thought why not shouldn't take long. Yeah right.

This Dragon cult quest would have to be the hardest quest Ive done alone in the game so far, Nimrod is at lvl 35 with Orcish armor 94, 2h glass greatsword & 2h Rueful Axe, Shield of Yssramar with iron battleaxe, no magic apart from a low heal ability not the best armor so its more smash my way through with the odd health pots to help and Ive never really had any trouble playing this way till now. Damn those Draugr Scrourge warlords or lords whatever they're called in groups of 3 or more and not much space to attack I have died often & with the realistic lighting mod every shadow is suspect. Well Im not to far from the mask going by the map, have died 3 times in the last 1hr :haha: gotten lost & gone round in circles nearly twice!

HOW I DIED COMPLETING THE MAIN QUEST

Forcing Odahviing to land and get caught in the trap?

No, although a few of the guards were not so lucky. Parts of at least one are probably still falling into that giant camp west of the city.

Working my way up to Skuldafn Temple, fighting off two dragons and Draugr DeathMasterWarOverLords in groups of three and getting shouted onto my dainty arse more times than I can count?

No, although I'm probably gonna need to forge a special Daedric Buttpillow when I get home.

Fighting the last interior boss for the Claw that was the key to the Word Wall chamber and passage to the door to the steps to the portal?

Oh, hell no. Even though Boss Draugr aren't Boss Draugr any more, I leveled up too far and now they're creepy flying Dragon Priests. Creepy flying Dragon Priests who can't eat more than two ebony arrows without disintegrating, but still.

Singlehandedly slaying not one but two dragons who were very displeased with me because I killed their boss priest and took his widdle staffy waffy?

HAH! I laugh at dragons. Even the displeased ones.

Proving to Tsun that I was worthy to enter the Hall of Valor?

Nope. Tweren't that either. Tsun was a piece of cake. Or sweetroll, if you will. A big, beefy, hunk of shirtless Nord sweetroll. With some of the clunkiest dialogue I've yet heard in Skyrim or related Aetherial realms associated thereunto. So to speak. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they brought George Lucas in to write his speeches.

But wait, fair maiden, I can hear you saying. How *did* you die completing the Main Quest? Surely if you passed all these other trivial tests unscathed, it must have been Alduin the World Eater himself who laid you low.

That's what *you* think, bub. Alduin is just an overgrown, over-hyped, flying iguana with delusions of grandeur. Me and them Sovngarde heroes of old, we took him out no problem.

No, my friends, let me tell you how *this* Dragonborn died completing the Main Quest. *This* Dragonborn lost her footing running across the dragon-bone bridge in Sovngarde, and fell to her death on the rocks below.

Yes, the final score on the first playthrough was...

Dovahkiin: 0
Slippery Skeletal Walkway: 1

:rotfl2:

But thanks to the modern miracle of Autosave and reload, round two went a little more smoothly. Alduin is now, in the words of the Dragonborn, as dead as I can make him.

Also: Sovngarde is awesome, seeing all the Dov with Paarthurnax at the TotW after is even more awesome. I almost cried.

So, to sum up... trapped a dragon, established my dominance so he would fly me to an otherwise inaccessible portal to the next world, defeated the many fearsome guardians of said portal, went to the next world, killed the Big Bad, saved this world, returned from the next world, and was duly acknowledged by those of my Dovahpeeps who are now on the friendly - or at least the "will not eat me on sight" - side of the line. And I *still* had some stupid bandit in piddly fur armor run up and threaten me with a sad little iron mace before I got halfway back to Whiterun. :haha:

I actually spent more than a few seconds looking around for the entrance before I realized I had to go *across* the skeleton to get there. And I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I think I walked across the first time and that was fine but coming back out to face Alduin I was trying to keep pace with the three heroes so: running.

Plus I'm pretty sure Kodlak saw the whole thing, by the time I get back to Whiterun he will probably have appeared to the Companions in spirit form to advise them on some, er, course corrections. "Oooookay turns out I might've jumped the gun on that whole 'next Harbinger' thing..."

Mage is once again over powered, even without spell crafting.

It is a touch harder than a sneak or warrior build, but once properly perked and armored with enchantments, you are invincible.

I am playing a no weapon mage. I dual cast everything.
And without using dual casting impact perk.

Even then I still outclass.

So I ask, is it a product of my own understanding of the game (skill), or the re-occurance of the "over-powered magic" from previous games.

I mean it is too simple, fus ro da... Then dual cast a fireball/lighting bolt until dead.

Not saying it isn't fun.:DL Just OP once you get past your level infancy.

Mages have been traditionally overpowered in TES, which is why I don't like playing them. In terms of crafting, I limit myself to one discipline. If I am a warrior, I smith. I don't enchant, I don't use potions. Keeps things from getting out of hand.

Just think of Skyrim as a land where conjoined twins are relatively commonplace. :O:

Well I think I'm gonna wrap up my current character... almost to level 63, have completed the main quest, big bosses are really not much of a challenge any more. Can't see my current PC joining up with the thieves or assassins. Don't want to visit *every* location on the map, at this point I'm actually avoiding previously undiscovered places just to save something for future playthroughs.

Altho I do have three treasure maps on hand and one quest item I found but still need to be given the quest by the proper NPC... pretty sure finishing it will involve killing another dragon, and that might be a chance to call Odahviing and see what that's like. I also was dumb enough to pick a Crimson Nirnroot in Blackreach so that quest got started and it might be worth going back there to finish it off. Also I've never pickpocketed the heart out of a Forsworn Briarheart which I think would be hilarious. Got close once but he turned around just at the last second. But I'd probably have to go back to Markarth and start accepting bounties from the steward just to find another Briarheart to pickpocket... maybe I'll save that for when I'm playing out the Thieves Guild questline. :hmmm:

Sad that I can't summon Odahviing into Blackreach to help with the dragon there, that would kill two birds with one stone.

I dunno. Will probably finish off the one quest just to get the item out of my inventory. Then maybe I'll sell off all my raw materials and unused unenchanted apparel, see how much money I end up with, and retire to a life of leisure. :O:

Also been searching around hoping to find some mods that fix a couple annoyances in the game. If anybody's found any fixes for tempered Blades swords, Orcish swords, and some of the unique staves (one of the Hagraven ones is a problem, can't remember which... Eye of Melka or Hag's Wrath, one of the two) regarding the way they display (or refuse to stay) on weapons racks, please point me in that direction. Also noticed that equipped necklaces don't show on my PC if I'm wearing clothes where the necklace should be visible, i.e. blacksmith's apron. Minor things but I would love to see them fixed for future playthroughs.

And why wouldn't a high level mage be OP? Its a freaking mage... and a high level one should be able to burn you down, control your mind, summon an undead army, tear your body to pieces particle by particle.

There should never be a point that a mage should be outmatched. They are the very conduit of magikca the world bends to the will of a mage and that is supposed to be OP.

Besides the game renders one thing perfectly an assassin can take a mage out. Which is the way I would imagine a mage dying other then a mage duel. Lets face it your not going to send the strongest warrior in the world to confront a powerful mage, chances are he won't even be able to draw his sword. An assassin though would kill a mage before he could even react.

Thats also an AI issue... they have the same 'power' as the PC, they just don't use it or do it stupidly...

Ie: A necromancer will raise up a dead minion and then proceed to blast you and his minion with a fireball explosion that kills his own minion. Duh. Then the AI loves to cast a flesh spell then hide behind a ward until it runs out of magicka and dies. The reason the PC seems OP is because we don't waste huge portions of our energy supporting Wards when we could turn them into offensive mayhem. Also the ai can't control your mind... which is a major power of any mage... I can turn a whole city against itself and nobody will touch me.

+edit: Besides I'm not sure alot of people would be cool if at random they lost control and started beating their companion to death in a magic induced rage while an NPC mage cackles evily in the corner.

Lol I don't know if it was inspired by anime altho I suspect it was... was browsing through mods and saw something called "Foxy Farkas" that said it had made him look sexier.

I don't know whose idea of "sexy" that is, "Emo Farkas" was more like it. :o

The only thing I've done with the twins is get rid of that horrible war paint around the eyes. I guess I think most of the attractive Nord men are sexy as is. Yep, pretty much right in my wheelhouse, fantasy-wise. ;)

Aaaand realized last night that the last unused quest item in my inventory is for the master spell ritual quest or whatever it is for... Alteration, I think. So if I stick around for that one, it's gonna be a while... 99% of my use of Alteration has been from casting Transmute on iron and silver ore, with a small bit coming from using Telekinesis to toss bits of transmuted ore around the room afterwards just to see how it worked. :haha:

I do have quite a bit of iron and silver ore stockpiled and the iron's cheap enough but I don't think there's enough there to get to 90 or whatever level is required. I'm only in the low 50s on Alt, IIRC. I've been trying to use one of the ***flesh spells instead of a shield in my left hand but not having concentrated on magic I forget to cast it. I suppose I could go out on an ice floe and aggro some horkers for risk-free practice.

Did get my Crimson Nirnroot, though, and explored the bulk of Blackreach in the process. And opened every single passageway to the surface, so the Falmer can now use them en masse to invade and retake Tamriel. Enjoy your new (mutated) Elven overlords, peoples of Nirn! :woot:

Also had to go back to Solitude for something and decided to check out the Thalmor Embassy... turned out there were still three of them hanging around at the front gate. Being the friendly sort who just wants to share the love, I asked them if they'd found Talos. They didn't take it too well. :O:

Picked the lock on the guard barracks and found several more in there who simply refused to turn hostile... so I had the Magigolo wait outside the gate while I went back in and killed them all. Then "jumped over the wall" to get into the Embassy proper (i.e. turned off collision, seriously, the war's over, we won, there should not be Thalmor in Skyrim, or else there should be another quest to go back and get rid of them). First thought the place was empty except for a few corpses left over from my last visit, which I got the chance to loot properly this time around. Then some Thalmor wizard pops out of a side door, surprise!! Anyway now he's also dead. And naked.

Then basically went through the place and took anything and everything of value that I didn't nick the first time, nicked things out of display cases, took all the fine apparel, I don't know how many sets of Thalmor and Elven gear, and to add insult to injury, stole all the silver and booze. Sold all the "dodgy" stuff (none of it was tagged as stolen anyway) to a Khajiit trader who was conveniently parked outside of Solitude proper when I got back.

In other words, it was a good night. :D

Well you know I hadn't quite made up my mind to go inside and loot the place given that I couldn't find the cave that gets you back in the dungeon and I wasn't sure I wanted to use the console to do it.

But then I run into these three outside the front gate, and... well, see, somewhere on the road to Solitude I killed a thief and I there was a stray dog at the scene and I don't know if the thief had killed the dog's owner or was harassing the dog or what, but suddenly after killing the thief I had a doggie follower. He was cute and fuzzy and had the puppy dog eyes and did what he was told and wasn't pushy like Barbas and I really got attached to him. HE WAS A GOOD DOGGIE and then one of those Thalmor pigs KILLED HIM and all I was trying to do was share the love of Talos with them. The bastids.

So, yeah, they killed my dog. After that, there was no going back. :x

I wasn't referring to anyone here, i was just looking through skyrim nexus and noting all the anime inspired horsecrap.

Such as,
- armor that is heavy on the feet, ankles, hips, but amazingly skimpy on the groin, and inner thighs.

- Pig tails that hang down to the freaking ground.

- Green and purple hair

- Excessive and unrealistic use of makeup

- Animal like ears on the head. Dog or fox ears, i can't figure it out.

- A sword that's dimensions are such, that you might as well be trying to swing a Ford truck bumper as a sword.

The list goes on and on. I really hate anime.

Yea, anime armor isnt terribly pratical. Never understood why so many people make armor and think. "I know what will make this more useful! a hole in it! no one will shove a sword though that."

I don't care what anyone makes! ebony IMO looks best, well except for the helmet.

I saw one retex for the dragonplate that had removed the...er... "codpiece" portion of the cuirass. Completely. And whoever did the screenshot was also using a nude mod so the guy wearing the armor was... er... let's just the package was being delivered in its entirety. :o

Who would go into battle like that? "Well, my legs and chest and arms and brain are all protected and my junk's hanging out... no, I don't see a problem here. Let's go kill some bandits!"

Also: does Odahviing just hang out at the TotW after you finish the main quest? I went back up there to say wassup to Paarthurnax (and to assure everybody that I wasn't gonna kill him) and while climbing the path saw another dragon flying circles around the mountaintop. Assumed it was the P-daddy but when I got up there he's just chillin' on the Word Wall as usual. Climbed all the way up to the top to do some mining cuz it had been a while and got a close up look at the other dragon, it looks like Odahviing. Anyway he was just flying around in circles up there roaring at me when he went by. Did a couple of very close fly-bys too, it was awesome. I got some screenies but didn't get a chance to review them because it was so late.

Also: it's very sad when you have to do "removeallitems" on your spouse to rid of him extra hidden inventory after reacquiring him as a follower, and then see him in his undies and realize that you really should've married another Nord. :wah:

"Paarthurnax says hi and next time you visit could you bring him a sweetroll from that inn over in Dragonbridge. And a dead elk if it's not too much trouble. I only just started carrying it around all the time instead of leaving it on a rack, and it hasn't been as much fun as I expected.

The crazy woman who follows you around shouting "Wabbajack wabbajack wabbajack" showed up again. It turned her into a bunny rabbit. Well, she asked for it.

Since then I've used it on 3-4 hostile human NPCs. They all turned into mudcrabs.

Later on I was about to ford a river when I saw a big mudcrab on the other side. Alrighty, I thought, let's see what happens to a mudcrab when it's Wabbajacked.

It turned into a smaller mudcrab. :shifty:

I should've used it on Deep-in-his-Cups, who keeps showing up wanting a buttload of gold as payoff on a bet we supposedly made the night I went drinking with Sanguine.

The first time I talked him down to a much more reasonable amount (despite having the full amount on me, several times over, cuz I'm ornery like that).

The second time I just paid the full amount he demanded right off, in the hopes that he'd stop bothering me. Really, bro, how can I miss you if you won't go away?

The third time I just ended the conversation and went about my business. Considering that my "business" at the moment was defending myself against a bandit ambush on some backwoods trail, it seemed like a wise move. He went hostile and I killed him. Or maybe the bandits killed him. It was kinda hard to tell. Can't remember if Argis was there, if so then it's a safe bet that Argis killed him because: Argis.

Fourth time - also killed him. Killed him dead and stripped him of everything but his stanky Fruit o' the Looms.

AND YET HE KEEPS COMING BACK. Was accosted for the fifth time last night, and killed him for the third time. Maybe if I turn him into a mudcrab he'll stay away? Or will I just be accosted by some angry mudcrab in a few days, waving its little claws at me and chittter-chattering in Mudcrabese about stealing some bandit's hat? Inquiring minds want to know, except when they don't, which would definitely be the case here. :O:

Here he is, the man, the legend, former Emperor of Tamriel, now ascended to the godhead, the big "Plus One" of the Eight Plus One... I give you... TALOS!!!

*and the crowd goes wild*

I always wondered what Argis would be like if he went to eleven. Now I know. Except it's more like eleventy-eleven.

He came standard with dragonplate armor (no shield) and a Nord Hero greatsword. All of which I promptly confiscated, improved to the best of my OPed abilities, and returned to him along with a Nord Hero bow, also improved to my own personal standards. And 300 Nord Hero arrows, which I didn't even know existed until I looked it up. Thank you console commands! No enchanted stuff though, I mean, he's a god. I was afraid he'd be insulted.

Yes it's a cheat, but since I'm only playing out this character for giggles now I might as well get as many as possible out of it.

And he's barrels of fun to watch! Not only will he kill every last enemy in the vicinity before you even have time to register their intentions, but he will leave them resting in peace in the most undignified manner possible:

But for the latest in Skyrim news, let's go to the Skyrim News Network:

This is Garth Loud-Jacket and welcome back to SNN, coming to you live from our studios here in Windhelm, Eastmarch. Now for an update on our top story tonight... Sigrun Stormblade, Thane of all nine Holds, Harbinger of the Companions, Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold, and the woman considered by many of Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak's supporters to be the foremost hero of the recent civil war here in Skyrim, reportedly went on a rampage earlier this evening in and around the city of Markarth. The Stormcloak icon - who some believe may also be the Dragonborn of legend - was apparently in Markarth to do some routine bartering in and around the city when something allegedly sparked an outburst of violence that has left the entire Reach in a state of shock. Let's go now to our reporter on the scene, Brad Helmet-Hair. What can you tell us, Brad?

"Greetings, kinsman. What I can tell you is that it's an ugly scene here in the west country tonight. No firm count so far on the number of casualties, but it does appear that almost every guard in Markarth is dead as well as those who were on patrol between here and Karthwasten and in Karthwasten itself.

"Reports are still coming in from the other holds but it seems as though Ms. Stormblade was planning to take an extended vacation from her various duties here in Skyrim. Sources say that over the past week she had been spotted in every major hold capital, paying calls on friends and visiting merchants to sell off what certainly must have been a large portion of her personal stockpile of weapons, armor, and other sundry items acquired in a career that began at an executioner's block in Helgen and may very well be over as far as Skyrim is concerned.

"We do know that the last person to speak to her on friendly terms here in Markarth, an Orc said to be the Jarl's personal blacksmith, reportedly informed authorities that she claimed she 'needed a break' and wanted to 'start over' and that things were 'just no fun any more' now that Alduin was dead, the Empire was defeated, and there were so few bandit camps left for her to annihilate. He also claimed that she was traveling with a previously unknown male follower and was overheard to refer to him several times as 'Talos'-"

Did I hear you right, Brad? Did you say "Talos"?

"Yes, Garth, it does appear that Ms. Stormblade may have been suffering from the delusion that her traveling companion was in fact the god Talos. In addition, some eye-witnesses are reporting that Ms. Stormblade appeared to have, in their words, 'snapped' when approached for what they are calling the 'umpteenth time' by a local Vigilant of Stendarr who has allegedly been monitoring an abandoned house just outside the local marketplace. Apparently he has been known to pester Ms. Stormblade on many occasions regarding alleged activities in and around the house, about which she repeatedly claimed she had no knowledge whatsoever. Sources are saying that she remarked to one of the vendors in the market that if 'that Tyranus dude' stopped her one more time, it would definitely be the last.

"Unfortunately it appears as though he did confront her again, after which she walked to the city's main entrance and, you're not going to believe this, Garth, but sources are saying she simply vanished into thin air. Moments later Vigilant Tyranus was hit by an arrow shot by an unseen assailant that authorities are assuming was indeed Ms. Stormblade, especially considering the fact that her companion - this so-called 'Talos' - immediately began the wholesale destruction of the city guards who came to investigate the incident. The two then somehow escaped the city proper and made their way towards Karthwasten where several other guards were apparently killed by them or by... hold on, what's that? Are you sure?"

Well, Brad, thanks for the update, it's certainly a sad day for the people of-

"Hold on, Garth, I'm getting some more information as we speak... my producers are telling me... is that correct? You've confirmed that?"

While Brad continues to investigate events in the Reach, let's turn to Haelga Warm-Front for the weather-

"Garth? Are you still there?"

Yes, we're here, Brad, do you have anything new for us?

"You're not going to believe this, Garth, but witnesses are now reporting that Ms. Stormblade performed what's commonly known as a 'Dragon Shout' here in the city as well as outside the walls while making her escape, certainly not an unknown sound to anyone who remembers the famous - some would say infamous - use of the Thu'um by a young Ulfric Stormcloak here in Markarth during the last native uprising. What they could not have known was that this shout was apparently designed to summon a dragon known to and in league with Ms. Stormblade. Witnesses are saying that it was in fact a dragon attack precipitated by this unique Stormblade Thu'um that allowed for her escape from the area.

"Reports are also coming in from the mining settlement in Karthwasten, stating that it was not Ms. Stormblade or her seemingly invincible companion who killed the guards there and along the road, but was in fact the same dragon who facilitated her escape from Markarth. And now I think... yes, if you'll stay with us for just a moment longer... we have an eye-witness to some of these events, one of the guards who miraculously survived what must have seemed like a veritable onslaught of destruction. What can you tell us, sir?"

"I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. For a dragon to attack Markarth... why? Why here?"

"Do you think there's any truth to the story that this dragon was actually summoned deliberately to attack the city?"

"Don't know about that, but it sure was angry, I can tell you that much. We haven't seen anything like that since someone stole the Jarl's sweetroll. Say, have you seen those warriors from Hammerfell? They've got curved swords. Curved-"

"Swords. Right. But back to the events here in Markarth this evening... can you shed any light on what might have caused Ms. Stormblade to-"

"Sigrun Stormblade? Red hair, hangs out in the smithy, wears all that fancy Daedric gear? Yeah... I seen her around. Quiet type, mostly kept to herself. You know, I used to be an adventurer like her, but then I took-"

Sorry, Brad, but I'm going to have to cut your interview short, we've just received word that a mammoth is loose in downtown Whiterun.

Stay tuned for the latest on that and our other top stories here on Skyrim News Network. And now for a word from our sponsors.

"Need a ride? Why not come on down to the Windhelm stables and talk to me, Alfarinn. I can take you to any of the hold capitals. Rain, snow, shine, snow, fog, dragon attack, or snow, I'm the guy who's sure to get you where you need to go. But you better hurry it up back there, I haven't got all day..."

*takes a bow* :D

Yep, Sigrun is probably in High Rock by now, having made a clean escape from Skyrim with nothing but the clothes and weapons on her back, a couple hundred filled soul gems, a sackful of health potions, and close to 120 million shiny gold septims. I decided she should go out with a bang and Markarth was the place to do it since being there almost always left a uniquely bad taste in my mouth.

Sadly it may also be the worst place in Skyrim to get screenshots of a dragon attacking a city. :wah:

Not enough open spaces and nowhere open and high enough that I could get to quick enough to get a really good view of the carnage. Also... Talos, being a god, tends to wipe out way too much of the opposition before Odahviing can even get there. I had to go outside the walls and wait for the guards around the stables to attack me just to give Odahviing something to do when he arrived. Really should have picked a different city with more guards and wide open spaces but... Markarth had it coming.

Then took off for Karthwarsten and called him back as soon as I was able, red dots straight ahead on the radar, guard patrol coming up the road, then a dragon roar, and he pulls up just over top of them and fries them with fire breath. By which time Talos has already plowed ahead into the fray and finishes off whatever's left. Nothing like having the wrath of the Ninth Divine descend upon you when you're already on fire. And Talos? Apparently immune to dragon breath. Not surprising, I guess, I saw a boss draugr shout a full Unrelenting Force at him from about two feet away in Valthume and all he did was take one stagger step backwards and go right on swinging. :o

Oddly enough I originally intended to take out the one Silver-Blood brother, not the new Jarl but the one that runs the family business, because I couldn't think of anyone in Markarth who deserved it more. Then I actually got there and was trying to get around and sell off the last of my unwanted gear and after being held up twice by that sanctimonious Vigilant decided that his harrassment of innocent passersby MUST. END. NOW. :x

Kinda forgot that he couldn't be killed, which sucked, but then again it did make the fight between him and Talos go on for quite a while which was pretty entertaining. :yep:

The current skse beta works fine with the new patch ,just download and install http://skse.silverlock.org/

Sadly it looks like Script Dragon has not been updated yet so it looks like I'll be staying offline for now instead of letting Steam patch the game. IIRC it's SkyUI that requires SD and I'm not giving it up.

Still have things mostly ready to start a new character, since I'll most likely be playing out the thieves and assassins storyline this time around and not going for the full on warrior type (for as long as I can stand it) I'm kind of leaning towards a Dunmer character. Just trying to think of a good name. :hmmm:

For best results try and force yourself to use the bow and daggers... clearly for snipe and backstab, but also because they tend to force you to avoid direct conflict and keep you away from full on warrior type attacks.

Taking a dagger to a warhammer fight is never fun lol.

Also even if you don't want to put perks into bow it can still be very effective late game. My mage character with level 70 bow and ZERO perks can still one shot most things with the bound bow. You know... if you want to not much of a reason when you can destroy the entire room with a snap of the wrist but still I do enjoy taking out the primitive weapon from time to time and bound ones just feel like I'm not completely out of character.

Anyways point is its the opposite for daggers, you HAVE to take perks in one handed... and sneak.. because unperked damage to your daggers is never going to cut it late game. Atleast from the messing around i've done with my various characters.

Oh, absolutely, I think I finished at 97 in Archery with this last character but IIRC I never took any of the archery perks beyond maybe the very first one or two ranks at the bottom of the tree, and maybe not even those. :hmmm: But I still had great success with the bow, typically in conjunction with Sneak which I used constantly when dungeon crawling or moving through potentially dangerous areas whenever possible right from the start.

So usually when I had the bow out it was to snipe someone or something who never saw it coming, and as the quality of my weapons and ammo got better and better I didn't really see the need to use perks on Archery. I considered it a secondary skill altho TBH I probably got most of my animal/human kills that way and certainly a whole lot of lower level draugr, even a boss here and there if I was quick enough.

The only thing that got disappointing with the bow was that I never really got to see the results of using something like Frenzy poison because by the time I got around to wanting to experiment with it, anything I used it on tended to die just from being shot the first time. :haha:

Well something I use required Script Dragon... looking at SD dude's list of plugins...

Hey, you know what, I think it may only be Toggle UI that used it and I can't use that anyway because it never got updated to work with the patch before the latest one. So I may be able to just disable it altogether and let Steam update the game. Coolness.

I still want a way to toggle the HUD off and on with a hotkey, I think Arclight mentioned some kind of trick to route the console command to a hotkey? I never did look into that but since Toggle UI seems to be dead in the water it may be my only option. Unless there's another UI mod that can be configured to do that and nothing else. :hmmm:

Dowly

Yeah, I think ToggleUI uses SD. :yep:

As for the hotkey thingy, you'll probably need a program to write a macro for that.
Did some digging when you asked about it earlier and it doesn't look like there's
a way to bind keys to console commands with just Skyrim. :hmmm:

Yeah, a macro. That's the word Arclight used. I just don't know how to make one or implement it in the game.

Edit: and BTW did you ever figure out why the Space Core stopped talking? Mine did the same a couple days after you mentioned it. I tried taking him and dropping him again, moving him around, nothing worked. I won't be starting a new game with the mod enabled but I may end up wanting the little guy around again later on just for the giggles. And TBH when he shut up, I really missed his chatter. Thought I would get tired of it, but I never did. Especially when I would walk in the door after some particularly horrendous adventure and get the "Lady hey lady hey hey lady... you don't look so good." :haha:

Kinda funny to hear him blab while I'm ditching stuff at Belethors shop.

I was using the Dovahkiin's Hideout mod which gave me a huge underground domain for crafting and storage and just general living if I wanted to use it for that. I put him on a shelf there and when I moved away from him the volume level of his chatter would go down as it should but if I went into the one part of the hideout that was a separate cell - i.e. there was a loading screen on entry and exit - his voice would be just as loud in there as it was when I was two floors up standing right next to him.

Thought it was a glitch with that mod, but I guess not... sounds like it has something to do with being in *any* small interior space within a given distance of his location or maybe within the same larger chunk of the playable world.

Granted I don't know if, say, the Breezehome cell and the store cell are somehow *inside* the larger Whiterun cell in some way so I may not be making any sense at all. But if you stay in the same cell and get closer or farther away his volume goes up and down as you would expect... then when you enter a separate interior cell within the same overall "space" (Whiterun, or the Hideout) it somehow reverts back to the same default volume you get when he's right there with you. :hmmm:

No, never found the reason he stopped blabbering. :hmmm:

I did plonk him down to a custom house, so no idea if that has something to do
with it. Might be in an area where there is no navmesh or something, might cause it... maybe.

Hmm... I enabled an upgraded version of the Hideout at some point, but I don't know if that corresponded to when he stopped talking. It's certainly a possibility that something got changed that affected him, I wonder if I had taken him out of there and then back in, if it would've made a difference.

I'm going to use customized versions of the vanilla properties and maybe add a couple in the other holds if I find anything that looks good... but I'm going to try and do without the Hideout this time. It just got too big and too full of pointless clutter. He made a compact version which looks nice, but it's not set up for followers to enter and neither were any of the other additional living spaces that I saw last time I looked. OTOH I may not be using followers much this go 'round, so who knows. :hmmm:

Edit: wait what am I thinking if I do the Dark Brotherhood thing I'll have a place in Falkreath eventually...

I think your onto something.

I've roughly mapped out how far his voice carries, obviously to the Smith shop at the gate, all the way down to the Alchemist shop. Everybody building between those points has his voice, on said street.

That includes the buildings on the opposite side of the street, the other bar across from breeze home.

However it DOES stop at the alchemist shop because his voice is not in the Inn at the end of the street, nor is it in any other building in whiterun.

Glass armour looks cool. So cool. Looks like Captain Nemo's diving suit.

I downgraded to a dwarven sword again. It's the coolest looking sword. So... straight, clear lines. Looks like a sword should look. Using a glass bow as well, and an elven dagger too. That elven dagger with 15X multiplier in sneak attack since I specialised in archery and sneaking. Lack of overpowered weapons certainly is not one of Skyrims problems.

Made friends and armed to the teeth the housecarls of Whiterun and Rifton, made Rifton my primary home, also made freinds and armed to the teeth Mjoll and that Dark Elven archer from Whiterun whose name I always forget. Lydia in steel plate with open steel helmet not to hide her cute face :), steel axe and orkish bow. Mjoll in ebeny this time, with an open steel hel,met again, no shield, but an ebny two hander and an ebony bow. Then there is that Rifton housecarl who always looks so angry. She got dressed in full drwaf armour and wepaonry, am axe and bow. And the Elven archer from Whiterun in Golden Elven armour and sword and bow - what else. All carry at least two items with noise-muffling magical effects.

I am the only man in the gang. :D

Rifton is my place. I simply love it. Always had a soft spot for birch trees, and the home may not be the biggest, but it is gemütlich, so is the town. Whiterun in close second. I just cannot make a decision to part from my money over houses in the other cities. They may be bigger, but they feel not - not right.

Stores and salesmen hate customers like me. :D

But the game, even at highest level, is too easy. I feel there is nothing out there that could pose a threat to me in a duel. Not even severla of them at the same time. How should that be once I have made a light dragon armour and upgraded it? Batman smacking a gang of chicken? Looks all nice, keeps you getting back again and again even when not being able to continue the main quest (which probably is not that interesting anyway, I assume).

And I want bigger rumbles. Want to mess with a gang of 10 or 15, not just two or three walking cadavers on the stage, using three arrows to mow all three down. I want something in Arnie-style. The Rambo show. The Skyrimian Little Big Horn. The reall bloody blood stuff, preferably from many different corpses. Or you open the door to the dungeon, and Alien 2's sentinel automatic robot MGs from three sides send you a motivating greeting.

Hm.

Think I go playing SBP a bit now. I got into the right mood.

I hope they beef up the stakes a bit in a future addon. In Skyrim, not in SBP.

I don't know about easy I play it on expert and at times its a battle to survive tho im full on melee with a pitiful heal ability, use a 1hd wep and shield with block up to max and finish them off with a 2 hander. 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 no problem but more than 2 enemies then its hit and run tactics. :dead:

Oooh, this looks like a fancy mod, Frostfall:

Frostfall is a survival-style mod that adds cold weather survival gameplay elements to Skyrim.
It uses a sophisticated system to track your location, weather, time of day, worn clothing, and more, to determine your current rate of exposure.
All of this takes place seamlessly in the background.

I'm actually a little relieved to find out you hardcore RPG vets think it's too easy at Master levels. I've been playing on Novice all this time. :haha:

Just now bumped it up to Adept for the next playthrough, now that I have a relatively decent feel for how to move around and fight with the keyboard/mouse. I still suffer from PowerStrikeitis, though, by which I mean I tend to get a little too frantic and hit M1 too hard over and over and end up burning through my stamina too quickly. Wasn't a problem at the higher lvls but starting over again I'm really having to watch that.

Sadly though I ran into some problems last night, had everything working fine with the new game and then got into the Bleak Falls Barrow quest for Farengar's Dragonstone (and what's his name who wants the claw back, I'm only going in there once this time). Going along fine and cut Arvel the Swift down and he took off but I didn't kill him right off or catch up to him quick enough because: draugr. I didn't think it mattered because IIRC he's supposed to get killed by the draugr further down the dungeon if you don't do it first? So I wasn't too worried about catching up to him right away, more worried about not getting killed myself.

However I eventually got all the way up to the puzzle door and... no Arvel. I never passed him (or his corpse) on the way. Went all the way back to the spider den and then all the forward to the puzzle door again and... nada. Can't find him anywhere, dead or alive. So, no claw, can't continue.

I figured I'd just reload a save from earlier in the dungeon before I found him in the spider's web, but because I'm an idiot I exited the game completely at some point in trying to find the appropriate save, and while I was out I disabled some mod that didn't appear to be working, which I probably shouldn't have done since I was actually going *back* to older saves that had used it. Went back in and, screw finding Arvel, my Favorites menu is completely gone... when I hit Q nothing happens. I use a customized one and it was working fine with all the other mods before, so I guess somewhere in the process of reverting to old saves and tinkering with mods it got borked. But I'm not sure why I get no response *at all* from the Q key... :hmmm:

Anyway I came completely out of the game and restored the mod list that I started out with and started a whole new game, recreated my character, went through Helgen, etc., but when the time finally comes where I should be able to access all my menus, you guessed it, I hit Q and get nothing. :wah:

So I don't know what I did. I thought at first maybe my custom Fav menu used Script Dragon, which I removed, but I'm sure that's not the case because I *know* I accessed it with this character several times before it disappeared. :hmmm:

So I may be starting over and over and over until I get this sorted out. :stare:

How is dual wield working out for you anyway? Ive thought about it a few times, but end up being bored by level 10. It just seemed like your tactical options were so limited. No block, no bash, just hit both mouse keys at once, and repeat tell out of stamina. Does it pay off later on?

Myeah, it's not very well done, imho. The big problem is that most enemies seems
to have enough reach to hit you everytime you try a hit & run attack, so it really
just boils down to what you said: dual power attacks.

On the up side, you can have total of 4 enchantments (2 per weapon) once
you get the relevant perk, so guess that gives some tactical options.

But all in all, they could've done much more with it. Ability to block would be especially handy. :-?

AAAARGH.

I disabled ALL mods and reloaded and the Q key is still not working. I have no way to access the Favorites menu, and apparently it's not a mod problem.

Any ideas? Could I somehow have disabled this by accidentally hitting a random sequence of keys while in the game? Is there someway I can "hotkey" it back so it works again?

I'm googling but most of what I find is people having trouble after trying the hotkey the Favorites functions/menu to something else which doesn't help much. Nothing about "the q key just suddenly stopped working."

Thank goodness I don't have hours of time invested in a character at this point. It's frustrating enough as it is. :stare:

Edit: to Oblivion with it, I'm just gonna reinstall and let it repatch and start over since I was only just out of Helgen anyway. I hope it works.

I was looking and hoping to find a mod that puts your shield on back, but couldn't find anything on nexus so I was wondering if there is any other websites that as anything like this.
Not sure what you think but carrying your shield around in your hand while unarmed seems a little unrealistic.

I'm pretty sure I did see one on Nexus, altho it was cosmetic only. :hmmm:

Yep here it is

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9157

But it looks like they are "special" shields and have to be purchased from one particular vendor... looks like they are modded in to replace quivers or something.

I agree, I wish there was something that would show your existing shield on your back when it's equipped but your weapons aren't drawn.

Tried Dual wield for a while and went back to shield / 1hd the dual wield in Skyrim is piss poor laziness, hell even WoW had dual wield perfected.:haha:

I would like to see a mod that shows our character & gear/wep and all stats ingame in a window press C key or rather to bring up the details, like most RPG's. Or I wonder if there is a spreadsheet with all enchants etc and what such enchant is good for what as this game I haven't even bothered to enchant my gear or anything just straight out bare bones, not even bothered with crafting.

Well I couldn't find a character stats mod so its back to the perks screen but found some cool mods to install which most of you probably already know about.

Tytanis - The Ultimate Mod - ride a bear anyone or maybe a wolf?

The creator of Tytanis bills it as The Ultimate Mod and it certainly comprehensive. The mod adds a whole bundle of crazy new items, powers, spells and perks, each more ridiculous than the last. If you've ever wanted to ride a bear, summon an undead dragon or dual wield two handed weapons then this is the mod for you. Future plans are even more ambitious, with farming, fishing and carpentry in the works.

SkyUI
was using an older UI mod that was a bit clunky, Skyui is :yeah:
Ask any PC gamer what Skyrims biggest flaw is and youll get one answer: the inventory. The default UI is inelegant, slow and features far too much scrolling. Which is why Sky UI (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863) is so essential. It doesn;t merely fix the problems with Bethesdas interface, it improves it on every level. Icons are now used to easily distinguish items while using less space. Additional information, such as if an item is stolen or poisoned, is clearly displayed. The inventory can even be sorted by value and weight, while a text search lets you find the correct item in a hurry. There is simply no reason not to install Sky UI, even those few who dont mind the original interface will find their Skyrim experience improved immeasurably as a result.

ENBSeries. Cant run Skyrim HD by Nebula. ENB gives the world a more colorful look. Very nice! :yeah:

The ENBSeries mods are famous for adding improved post processing and lighting effects to make games like GTA4 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution look amazing. Now, creator Boris Vorontsov has turned his hand to Skyrim. The result is unsual, but is nonetheless beautiful using brighter, more striking colours than previous ENB mods. Those who don;t care for the style should check out the the more muted Confident ENB settings instead.

A Quality World Map - With Roads - HD and Classic look options. :yeah:

Ever get lost trying to navigate the world map in Skyrim? Then Quality World Map is the mod for you. It not only upgrades the textures, but hand drawn roads to the map for easy navigation . It also includes the option for a classic style map for those who prefer Oblivion hand drawn look to Skyrim flashy 3D. This last feature is a work in progress, but it looks so lovely it worth trying anyway.

Val Crafting Meltdown. If I decide to waste my life crafting and mining Vals CM is a good starter ;)

Playing Skyrim inevitably results in picking up a lot of items you don;t necessarily need. Weapons or armour you aren;t properly trained with, or just useless pots and pans, every Dovahkiin ends up with a lot of clutter in their inventory. Vals Crafting Meltdown, has an ingenious solution to that problem, giving players the ability to melt down weapons, armour and junk into raw materials like iron and steel. It also provides an invaluable service for archers, letting them use smithing to create arrows, an ability inexplicably missing from the original game. Vals Crafting Meltdown is built to be compatible with other crafting mods, so if want to expand your crafting options, be sure to check out The Lost Art of the Blacksmith and More Craftables, which let you craft faction specific items like Thieves Guild armour or Skyforge Steel weapons. Alternatively Craftable Staffs lets mages get in on the smithing action too.

Deadly Dragons -well yea Dragons is one creature that is a piece of cake to take down, Ive never had problems with beating them I have more a hard time taking on mobs in a damn dungeon than a fire breathing dragon they should be the hardest creatures ingame to beat. When we spot a dragon we should be running for our lives not running after it to take it down in matter of minutes :arrgh!: Ok we are Dragonborn but still.

Dragons? Wimps I tell you! I eat em for breakfast! So goes the cry of the high level Dragonborn. Spectacular though Skyrim flying lizards are, they can sometimes be a bit of a pushover in the late game. Thankfully, there a mod for that. Deadly Dragons tweaks Skyrim biggest monsters to be even more terrifying, including adding all new Dragon types like Storm and Magma to threaten even the hardiest of adventures.

Proudspire Manor Dragonborn Edition

Proudspire Manor is the most expensive house in Skyrim, but it doesnt feel that much better than starting house Breezehome, which next door to a blacksmiths. Enter Proudspire Manor Dragonborn Edition, which expands and renovates your property, adding a built in smithy, along with extra mannequins and weapon plaques, turning your humble abode into the mansion it was meant to be.

Skyrim online - to basic for me atm from what ive read - chat to other skyrim players will wait for the day where we can run round in groups or pairs.

A work in progress, but an exciting one. Skyrim Online aims to turn Skyrim into a pseudo MMO, letting players connect to a server where they can see and interact with each other. So far it pretty simple, with other players appearing only as undressed prisoners, unable to do anything but chat with each other, but it still a great technical achievement. We cant wait to see where this mod goes once the creation kit has been released.Source with video previews http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/01/17/the-25-best-skyrim-mods/

SkyUI
was using an older UI mod that was a bit clunky, Skyui is :yeah:

Been using this since early on and love it.

A Quality World Map - With Roads- HD and Classic look options. :yeah:

I have some version of this to which the hold borders were added as fairly unobtrusive dashed lines, also got rid of all the damn clouds that were cluttering up the view. I know the "map" is not exactly like a flat drawn-on-paper map but... clouds? Really? So I can't see half of the dang country? :nope:

Deadly Dragons -well yea Dragons is one creature that is a piece of cake to take down, Ive never had problems with beating them I have more a hard time taking on mobs in a damn dungeon than a fire breathing dragon they should be the hardest creatures ingame to beat. When we spot a dragon we should be running for our lives not running after it to take it down in matter of minutes :arrgh!: Ok we are Dragonborn but still.

I might like to see something that makes the existing dragons a little more challenging at higher PC levels. :hmmm:

Proudspire Manor Dragonborn Edition

Used this for the last character but always had problems with the added mannequins moving around - at first I could activate them and add/remove items and they'd pop back into place but eventually they got "stuck" in the wrong spots somehow. Also issues with weapon/shield racks not working properly and stuff disappearing until I'd left and re-entered several times, really a pain if I only went in to get that one particular item. May have been caused by loading the mod *after* making a save inside the cell, seems to be an issue with some other custom property mods as well. At any rate will be trying out a different mod for this house this time around to see how I like it. Still not a bad upgrade to the property if you avoid the issues I mentioned.

Val Crafting Meltdown. If I decide to waste my life crafting and mining Vals CM is a good starter ;)

I would like some good crafting mods but I have a feeling it was the attempt to add them that borked up my new game, I use a combo of two of the "better sorting" mods which worked fine with Categorized Favorites and seemed to work fine with the crafting mods I added until I decided to remove one of them and switch one out for something else that was similar.

Not sure how crafting mods work, with recipes and stuff, are the items used referred to by name or by some ID code that is stable even if another mod changes the display name of the item? (Say, from "Iron Ingot" to "Ingot: Iron.") I would like craftable arrows but when I added a mod for it they never seemed to show up in the possibilities when I was at a forge, even though the vendors now sold stuff for fletching feathers. Also there's a mod that adds a bunch of extra jewelry that looks really cool although I haven't found anything that will let me craft pretty pretty circlets without revamping the entire smithing system in ways I don't want. I hate having to wait to find the circlets I like in loot or, even worse, *buy* them from that snotty beeyotch in Solitude. :stare:

No, the one I'm running doesn't have clouds. It's Hold_Borders_-_Classic_-_Main_Roads_v8-5739-8-0 which is a collaboration between the guy who adds the hold borders and the guy who does the modded map you mentioned. It's the same Quality World Map (or rather several varieties of it), but you get hold borders marked as well. My comment was directed at the fact that the clouds were ever there to begin with... it's a map, the one I'm supposed to use to get around. Doesn't work too well if half of what I'm looking at isn't visible, especially if that includes my current location. Really frustrating when I first started playing and didn't know any of the territory at all.

I also use Map_HUD_Enhanced-10093-1-1 which takes away the big dark menu bar at the bottom of the map, which you don't really need once you learn the few keystrokes you need to use it. Plus it makes the font for the time/datestamp smaller. End result - way more territory visible, don't have to scroll so much to see more of the country.

Right. You mean clouds in the default map yeah that never bothered me, I suppose it would of helped with a cloud free map for first timers as default (notice I didn't type noob:O:) so then some modder could create a 'Lots of cloud' map mod :D

Skyrim killed my fan tonight!

I have a 5870, almost two years old getting there almost time for a new card, but I'm still running most things on max settings with little issue.

Anyways has anybody tore one of these apart? What a pain and the fan is the CHEAPEST fan I've ever seen on a card in my life. You literally have to pull the fan off the motor instead of being able to grease it thru the back like ever other fan every made in history.

Anyhow I greased the fan and got everything back together and grinding and screaming seems to have stopped for now.

Anybody else had their 5870 fan die? Did you manage to save it or should I expect to start upgrade shopping before the end of the week?

Also does Skyrim only run hot on ATI. or is it running hot for everybody else? I'm generally at around 80 when everything else runs at about 65 on my pc, from Witcher 2, crysis 2, I mean everything else, Skyrim just seems to run Hot...

Sorry to hear about your fan, that's a bummer. At least you got it working again for the time being. No experience with that card so I got nothin'.

In other news, I am officially an idiot. Turns out the reason my Favorites menu "disappeared" is that I was trying to pull it up without having ever marked anything as a Favorite. :rotfl2: It didn't even occur to me! I guess I got so used to having so much stuff marked off that way that I forgot I would have to go in and do it all over again with a new character.

So, in conclusion, Me = Dumbass. :haha:

Also: I am indeed playing a Dunmer this go-round and I'm already sick of people saying "What do you need, little elf?" :stare: Especially in Whiterun where everybody was always so nice. I mean, they're still nice, but really. Will make it that much easier to clean out Bleak Falls Barrow and run straight off to Riften and join the Thieves Guild. Farengar Poopy-Fire can just wait on his dang Dragonstone until I'm ready to come back. Altho I expect the guards will say the same thing in Riften and everywhere else.

Your an elf, and Skyrim is Racist.. extremely so. Even more so your beloved Ulfric and his Stormcloaks... just wait and see.

Oh yea, already been there and done that. The fact that it wasn't directed at me didn't really make it any less unpleasant. However I had reasons for picking the side I did, mostly to do with the fact that it was the Empire who wanted to have me summarily executed simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the Thalmor. And also because I wanted Hjerim ASAP and Ulfric is, let's face it, right in my wheelhouse. There's just no getting around the fact that for me personally, the Nord men in this game are extremely attractive... and the others? With rare exceptions, not so much. The only reason I married the Magigolo was to keep him on a short unpaid leash. :haha:

But my previous character lives on in my head, where the Magigolo met a sad and untimely death :shifty: and I turned to Ulfric for comfort. One thing led to another and our secret marriage was announced just after the Moot decided he would be the next High King. Once wedded bliss softened him up a bit and his duties as King left more and more of the local business in my willing and capable hands, things in Windhelm changed. A lot. We started having Diversity Fairs and Meet Your Neighbor Weekends and I put Brunwulf Free-Winter in charge of improving conditions in the Snow Quarter - yeah, I changed the name back, cuz that's how I roll - and beginning the difficult but long overdue task of creating a fully integrated city. And given our new positions as High King and Queen, as Windhelm goes, so goes the nation.

We had some trouble with Galmar and a few others at first, but in the end Ulfric always ruled on my side because I'm soft and warm and smell like lavender and Galmar never showers and wears a stanky bear head for a hat. Also when I don't get my way I get all shouty and stuff.

Also.. that explains why q doesn't work for you anymore.. haha, duh. I bet when you figured that one out you were talking out loud to yourself.

If by "talking" you mean "cursing up a blue streak," then... yeah. :O:

Couldn't be stuff lvling an Orc so I typed in the code to change my main characters race instead and 'Grom Hellscream' is born. Everything is sweet using berserker mode is alot of fun

But then about 10min ago.... something weird happened Grom looses his head :88) I can play as normal but just headless!

I think the culprit might be Tytanis ultimate mod, will have to check it out.

Edit: ah typing in tgm can trigger your character to loose his head permanently where even an old save wont fix it from what ive read. I use tgm as I couldn't be bother going right round this high cliff I was on so jumped off, but that was like 2 days ago when I used the code. Still it triggered the orc to go headless. I had to use 'player.SetRace Orc' then Showracemenu to get his head back.

It's not a problem of the 5870's design its their standard design of the 5870 the one that's encased in plastic and the fan in it doesn't cut it.
but Nvidia has the same designs so when it comes to both brands I would avoid their standard designs and go for the ones that have a custom fan on it like the ones from Gigabyte when it comes to Nvidia and Sapphire when it comes to ATI.

I've got a 5850 from Sapphire:

Redguards also work pretty well for dual-welding. They've got the initial +10 bonus for one-handed weapons, with smaller +5 bonuses to smithing, archery, alteration, destruction and blocking. Their adrenaline rush-trait allows them to regenerate staming 10x faster for 60 seconds, though only once a day. Makes for fun gameplay where you can be a bit stealthy and take down a few guys from long range with the bow, then rush in an cut the rest in pieces with your dual swords.

Okay so far, I really really REALLY hate the whole sneaky light armor oooh let's see how much magic we can use today thieves thing.

Can't save up any money to buy a house because I spend it all trying to level up smithing to qualify for Arcane Enchanting, without which the Thieves Guild armor provides less protection than my homemade leather set and is therefore a disadvantage 99% of the time. Yeah, it may be nice for cozy inside jobs where the chances of being dismembered and/or eaten are relatively slim, but for getting from place to place? Fuhgeddaboudit. I lost track of how many times I was killed by the troll between Ivarstead and Riften whose cornflakes I apparently peed in on my last jaunt through the area.

Protip from your Auntie Frau Kaleun: trolls are not impressed with improved lockpicking skills. Trufact!

And altho I am sticking with 1H weapons only, and am learning to block a lot better than last time, it doesn't do me any good against roving bands of mercenaries and scavengers.

I guess the point is that I should be sneaking around these terrors, but then I have to go off the road and SPIDERS!!!! Which have also been the cause of my death on more than one occasion.

I have armor and decent enough weapons for my level and I still can't go five minutes without dying in some horrible fashion. I know I bumped up the difficulty level a bit but COME ON. I don't know how anyone playing a full mage with no armor or (physical) weapons ever survives long enough to become OP.

If I survive this Thieves Guild thing it better pay off with some major dividends because right now the only good thing about it is all the eye candy hanging round their HQ. Rawr. :O: Naturally, Brynjolf is not a marriage option. DAMN YOU BETHESDA!

*shakes fist, briefly, before being eaten by a randomly enountered bear*

Anyway I got as far in the Main Quest as killing the first dragon and making Thane of Whiterun, poor Lydia was a help on some travels after that but is dead now and I left her that way. Kinda starting to regret not reloading and getting her back, at least as protection on the road. Now I have to go all the way to Solitude to tough-talk some Orc, yeah, like *that's* a good idea at this point. Maybe I'll try to pick up some easier side jobs along the way for cash and XP.

Heaven forbid I meet any dragons along the way, if so... I am running in the other direction as fast as my little grey-blue Dunmer legs can take me.

Well, yeah. If you want to be good at sneaking around, stealing, picking locks and selling what you stole, you go with the Thieves Guild. If you want to be good at sneaking around and killing things, the shrouded armor from the Dark Brotherhood is what you want. Also, if you are sneaking and casting spells without Illusion to 50, you're doing it wrong. Go archery for that. Level up that sneak skill and you will be a force to be reckoned with.

Shrouded Armor = Kill Stuff I agree.

Anyways my first character is this op mage you speak of as everyone might recall. Never used ANY armor and nothing more then a dagger EVER the entire playthru, and of course all my spells and various shouts duh.

Anyways the early key for you is the bow and sneaking and when that fails RUN LIKE HELL. You should be lighter and faster then everybody else and you should be able to elude the AI jumping over things, closing doors behind you, ANYTHING. I never once had trouble vanishing into the shadows again as my assassin character or running and avoiding everything with my mage.

Infact even at op status I still tend to dodge by habit with my mage. My feet are always moving and nobody can hit me therefore I don't need armor... because I never get hit. That and I only have 200 health so getting hit generally isn't good anyways.

Try and practice 'brawling' people. Work on moving and timing your attacks. IN a one on one brawl I can knock the AI out without taking any hits.. generally every so often some ass gets behind me at the bar or something and the AI gets a cheap shot

Yeah, I am trying to use the bow as much as possible but it's a little hard when 2-3 hostiles descend on you at once and there's nowhere to go without getting half a dozen arrows in your back before you get there. I know the point is to avoid getting into situations like that, I guess by playing a character who went more melee at the start I am used to being able to fight my way out of stuff better. I don't much care for the "running away" thing and my SOP in a close fight was to stand my ground and swing away but in leather armor that doesn't work so good, lol.

I did finally manage to get through Goldenglow estate altho I think I killed everyone inside the house eventually. Used sneak and an invisibility potion to get across to the hives but of course as soon as one went up in flames they were on to me. I was able to get my quota of three before they caught up and then I just jumped over into the lake and swam like hell.

Maybe I should've gone for the DB first, since killing things has never been a problem. :O:

Really the only thing I'm using magic for at this point is to cast the Oakflesh spell (only one I've got so far) to help with armor rating in a fight, and the staff to get a familiar for some assistance. And I've used Flames or Sparks for a lone wolf here and there but that's about it. I have the Ancestor's Wrath fire cloak thing which is nice for low level draugr, especially with no follower around to get singed, but that only works once a day.

You have to unlearn your melee character skills.

You can't charge in and you REALLY can't stand your ground in a fight.

Your armor rating doesn't matter forget oakflesh. Your naked it doesn't matter you shouldn't be getting hit at all, ever, and if your in that situation get out of it.

Your character should be carefully observing her targets before each encounter and carefully picking an unfair fight. Infact EVERY fight she gets into should be on HER terms and heavily in her favor. The vast majority of enemies shouldn't even see her or know how they died.

That said things do get messy and again in those few times RUN and perhaps use the shadow stone for invisiblity once a day.

Well I wanted more of a challenge, this is definitely it. :wah:

I think I got so good at Sneak with my last character that I've forgotten the fact that it 1) took a long time and 2) mostly served as a way to take out the first round of opponents or even up the odds in an imminent boss fight with multiple opponents... and that was in conjunction with archery for the most part. But when push came to shove, I stood and fought melee style when and if I had to and eventually I usually had to. I almost always had non-summoned help as well.

Plus the Muffle enchantment. Gods, I miss my Muffle enchantment. I need to be on the lookout for something with that on it, IIRC it's a non-variable enchantment that doesn't depend on a high level soul gem or perks for maximum effectiveness. It would be a godsend to have it back.

OMG OMG OMG I just had a thought... you know what this game needs?

It needs a way to lure a bunch of Thalmor into some Dwarven ruin, and then lock them in a chamber with about three times as many boss-level Falmer. Preferably one with another chamber that overlooks it with some funky Dwemer two-way mirror that I can watch through. :yep:

Really you just need to almost always be in sneak mode. Also, you'll find routes through the wilderness where there is a lack of aggressive animals and this helps a lot when travelling from city to city.

Also, try and grind your illusion (cast muffle on yourself constantly, or courage on guards constantly) to level illusion to 50. Once you have this you can cast spells and still remain hidden.

Get used to disengaging and letting the enemy become complacent again (think subsims :O: )

Oh, and Healing. Lots and LOTS of Healing. :haha:

I'd really suggest getting the detect life shout (or spell if there is one) as that will really really help you find out of things are nearby you.

As for magic, I'd really only suggest using Illusion and Destruction (maybe conjuration too... Connjuring a flame atronach and dissapearing is fun). IMO Alteration is only truly valuable for a mage character. You're a sneaky build, the shadows should be your armor :O: . Also, if you can, finish the TG quest as soon as possible as the weapons and armor you get from it are truly awesome for sneaky builds (almost better then the DB armor IMO).

I think it was in this thread, in fact, where we were lamenting the fact that the standard Thieves Guild armor enchantments are woefully mismatched considering what work for the guild actually requires. The lockpicking bonus is nice, but with a lack of muffle and sneak enchantments you will find yourself unprepared for the questline, especially at lower levels. I always used the shrouded armor instead.

Drewcifer

I agree with everything Krauter said minus one small detail.

Also, if you can, finish the TG quest as soon as possible as the weapons and armor you get from it are truly awesome for sneaky builds (almost better then the DB armor IMO).

I have to say that its in your best interest to hold off on getting the nightingale armor set until your at higher levels... picking it up at level 10-20 gets you a nerfed set.

Managed to get safely from Riften to Hillgrund's Tomb last night and went on in because IIRC I can get Golldir as a follower if I help him take care of the nasty business inside. He got killed the last time around but I'm pretty sure he got caught in some of the Magigolo's crossfire. Oops! :shifty:

Anyway he's handling himself pretty well in the fight so far, but we got to the final chamber and I died the first three times through. Can't seem to get through all the draugr to the point where the necromancer stays put long enough to be killed. Trying my best to stay out of the way and let Golldir go mano a mano with the walking dead and I just get an arrow in when and where I can, which is hard cuz I really don't want to kill Golldir since having him around was kinda the whole point. Made the mistake of running up to the highest point in the chamber trying to find a good place to shoot from and uh-oh I think that's where the final boss draugr pops out. :dead:

Pretty sure if we kill him we can then pop the real villain but dangit he's a necromancer and keeps reanimating the dead draugr which sucks. And I suppose if I could remember to use the Familiar staff that would help a little.

Anyway my last save was just outside the final chamber, thank Talos, so I'll just have to keep trying until I get it. Or I could just... make a run for it in the other direction with all the gear and coin I've looted. Perhaps open the door and push Golldir in and then get the hell out of Dodge. :haha:

Won't get me a follower but I have to pass through Riverwood, maybe I can pick up Faendal or Sven this time through. Anything to get me to Solitude in one piece.

YAAAY! I remembered the Staff, finally. Helped a lot, if only to distract some of the draugr long enough to fight them one on one instead of three at a time.

Also remembered I had the Reverent Steel Mace. So when I finally have to switch to shield and hand-to-hand, that's what I pull out. My health is low so I'm running out of the chamber to recharge and suddenly realize that two draugr are also running out. I think oh hell no they're gonna chase me all the way back to the front door but then I realize... THEY are running away from ME. :haha:

*waves magic mace around "THAT'S RIGHT YOU UNDEAD MOFOS LOOK WHAT I GOT WHOOOOOOOOOO!!!"*

They were lower level otherwise the mace wouldn't have worked on them, so I was able to take them out in the tunnels... once I caught them. Got back to the chamber and put some poisoned arrows in the last draugr Golldir was fighting after which he was finally able to take his revenge on Vals Varen. Now him and me are best buds and he's tagging along yelling aggressive Nordie stuff at people who bother me and hacking them up real good with the Orcish axe I gave him and carrying all my heavy crap. Also found him a steel horned helmet but... seriously I don't know why I ever thought that was a cool item because he looks like a dork wearing it. Maybe it just doesn't go with his rusty old iron armor, which I'll have to see about updating after I get my property buying out of the way. Gave him a decent bow though and some arrows and he also uses those pretty well.

Headed back to Whiterun in search of work and coin and got the gig from Amren, and where do you think his father's sword is? Some bandit lair over by Rorikstead that Lydia and I already cleaned out on the quest with the Redguard mercenaries who were looking for the Redguard woman in Whiterun. Oddly enough they are still in there, even though they should be on the way back to Hammerfell. But they were still friendly and didn't seem to mind me getting Amren's sword and looting everything I wasn't able to take out in the first place.

Best part was, we headed out that way about midnight and we're only a couple minutes out of Whiterun when I hear the telltale roar that means: DRAGON. And I think holy crap, and I see it flying around, and it looks like it's gonna drop right on the city. But it doesn't, because this dragon flew in on the short bus and he decides to pay the nearby giant camp a visit instead. We were sneaking by there anyway and just keep our heads down and hope for the best because I got nothin' on me that will take down a dragon and I can't afford to risk Golldir at this point.

Anyway we are hiding on the other side of the rocky ridge that the giant camp sits up against so when the dragon drops down behind it on about the fourth pass, I can't see anything that's happening and I'm not going around there to find out but I can see two mammoths heading in that direction and no doubt the giant will defend his territory so I bite back my warrior instincts and just stay out of it. A couple minutes later I realize it's really, really quiet, no dragon roars any more, no jets of flame lighting up the night, and I never saw him fly off. Peer around the near edge of the ridge and see one mammoth calmly grazing.

Sneak around the other side of the ridge, on the far side of the camp, and there's both mammoth jus chillin and looking at me like "What?" and a dragon who is really most sincerely dead. Ding dong! Whose swag and soul I promptly stole and then got the heck out of there before the giant got curious. Awesome. :yeah:

Also cleaned out Silent Moons Camp and got the bounty for the bandits at Halted Stream Camp, hello Transmute Ore spell and tons of iron ore to use it on.

Now I'm back in Whiterun waiting for the local merchants to come up with enough coin to buy all the loot I need to sell. :arrgh!:

Yeah, Dovahkiin's Hideout. Had that with my last character. What it is, is a massive underground hideout with doors for each of the "surface" properties. So you can get there from all of them, but it's the same hideout every time. Rather immersion-breaking in that respect but I didn't mind that, it was other stuff that finally got on my nerves and made it more of a hassle than a help.

Problem for me was the constant addition of more clutter (all the books scattered around that are just shoutouts to supporters, fine, thank your supporters, but 3-4 copies each of books that are irrelevant to the actual game and have to be picked up and stored somewhere out of sight? No thanks) plus the addition of NPC after NPC who just got in the way. The whole point of the hideout for me was to have a place to store stuff and do crafting *without* some pointless NPC blocking the station I need to get to and then standing there repeating the same mindless dialogue the entire time I'm working. "You need something? You need something? You need something? You need something?"

Yeah what I need is to make potions in peace, you twit.

YMMV so give it a try. You can always disable/delete stuff you don't want, problem for me was I went through so many updates and had to keep doing that over and over again every time I loaded a new version. :nope:

Have you tried writing your own storybook for the game Fran I think you would be good at it :) from what you have to say about your adventures in skyrim I read here.

When I place stuff in the editor it doesn't show up in the game. Say if I add a chest full of good stuff go in game to where ive place it but its not there!? Anyone know what im doing wrong. Just to make sure i aint blind or something I placed a chest right next to the Riften doors go in game and there's no chest to be found. Its like the editor isn't updating do I have to do something like compile or debug before I leave the editor?

I 've been using the "compact edition"

but it seems the mod author's taken it down. I still have it on my hard drive though.

edit: Ok .. soo, it looks like the nexus deleted the mod for some reason. The author's under the hammer from skyrim nexus for some reason. Maybe it's because he's taking donations? I don't know.

edit: Nexus seems to have taken the dovakiin hideout off their site as well. He has other mods up, but im guessing its those two he was asking for money. That's my theory anyway.

I would've liked to have tried the compact version but the last time I looked it wasn't follower-friendly (they couldn't enter) and I had that with a couple other custom dwellings that I tried and it was a PITA. If I forgot to tell them to wait at a distance somewhere they would try to follow me in and end up getting "stuck" in some bizarre spot and then I'd have to mess around trying to unstick them before I could do anything else. Plus I mostly use owned properties for crafting and storage and my followers are generally carrying half or more of whatever loot and raw materials I have on hand, so not having them follow me in and hang around to give and take items gets old really fast.

I've been using the compact edition along with the retreat, mainly because ive been trying to play the game, without ever starting the main storyline. Once i got out of helgen, i just high tailed it and didn't talk to Gerder or the blacksmith in Riverwood. If you do attempt to play this way, its better to escape with Ralof, because otherwise, the blacksmith in riverwood goes into his house to talk to Hadvar, and doesn't come out again until you initiate the quest, so you lose a vendor.

Great way to play if you want to be the dragonborn and not have dragons dropping on your head every time you travel somewhere. You make your own path, not the one the main storyline lays out for you.

Yeah, kinda wished I'd done that. But I was worried that if I escaped with Ralof I wouldn't get to talk to the smith in Riverwood at all, didn't think about it working out the other way instead.

As it is I escaped with Hadvar (altho I did go with Ralof in one aborted restart) because I figured I'd probably join the Legion this time if I get around to the Civil War stuff. Want to do the truce negotiations, though, and may wait until after that's over... but then that means getting pretty far along in the Main Quest first, so I dunno.

Anyway I ended up in Whiterun talking to the Jarl, and I did head off to Riften and start the Thieves Guild quests before returning, but like an idiot I went back there and turned over the Dragonstone which jumpstarted the dragon stuff. So now I've got dragons to deal with and I'M NOT READY with this character.

Actually got killed by one trying to cross that ugly patch of Eastmarch with all the hot springs and and stuff, to get to Witchmist Grove cuz I kept getting cornered by whatshisname in the Bannered Mare since I was staying there while trying to do jobs out of Whiterun to pick up coin and loot. And I figured, why not. But trying to cross instead of going around was stupid, because there's a dragon lair or whatever right in the middle and he came out, don't know if he was going after the giant camp or just flying big circles around his territory but he spotted us pretty quick and there really is no place to hide out there and I ran out of Resist Fire and Restore Health and down I went.

Went all the way around the second time and still had to creepy crawl up to the hag's shack because I could hear the dragon roaring and actually see him flying circles around his little mountaintop off in the distance through the trees. Maybe he does that all the time until you kill him but I know I cleared that spot last time and I don't remember him being out and about beforehand. Maybe I was just lucky. Anyway I thought the commotion we caused might get his attention but fortunately, no. And I kept hoping maybe he was attacking the giants because then I could circle back around and see if they killed him which would be fantastic, but no such luck there. He just kept hollering until we were out of earshot and I was looking over my shoulder all the way to Windhelm. :haha:

I really have to get over being a nice person with this character. I only went to Whiterun because the guy in Riverwood was so kind and he asked me to and, yeah, seems harsh not to inform the dude in charge that there's a dragon on the loose. But the whole sneak thief thing really goes against the grain, what is "best" for this character is out of character for me personally and I keep forgetting that.

That's a rather broad generalization you have going there. Save for the person's name of Hentai, this has nothing to do with anime, and that's even debatable. Technically Hentai mean's sexual perversion(which is what this is), or pervert/weirdo(which is a pretty good sum of the artist in question.)

While a lot of self claimed Otaku's like, say and do some crazy stuff, you are stereotyping something.

As for the ears, I believe the person in question was trying to achieve elf ears :haha:.

Stupid bugs - I made a long journey from Riften to Windhelm to Winterhold to Solitude to Markarth and then planning to go to Whiterun. When I reached the Western watchtower of Whiterun, the guards spotted me - and attacked me. I wonder why, I had committed no crimes and no accidental killings of "false targets". I could have killed them all easily, but instead, not wanting to raise my bounty, ran away, with the guards in pursuit. After a longer while I managed to get them getting into a rumble with some magicans, who finally grilled them. I returned at whiterun, but having become cautious, I bypassed it, ran offroad, and headed for Riverwood. There everybody started yelling and attacking me again. I ran away, at Helgen and finally managed to get rid of them when dropping into the dungeon that I had left in the very beginning during the escape from Helgen. I returned to Riften, where everybody was peaceful. But when having slept in my home there (I'm married with the trader's sister from Riverwood, and live in Rifton with her now), in the morning the door bursts open and the blacksmith from Riverwood jumpom sinto the room and stars to hammer at me with a warhammer before my housecarl finally killed him. Short time later, the elve archer from Riverwood stands in the room and star´ts shooting at me, before my housecarl jkilled him. Next came the trader from Riverwood, and got finishged by my housecarl. Next three peoplke from the taverns and the mill, who all got fed by my housecarl (she's an very angry girl, you know).

The whole damn village of Riverwood seems to pursue me throughout Skyrim and tries to kill me. By now I must have buried the better part of the full population there. And it seems they still keep coming!?

Why do people have no love for me anymore?

A cursed village that one. I have exactly the same problem at the moment, and since I didn't want to eliminate everyone in the village I'm also taking shelter in Riften. We'll see when the angry mob reaches me. They're not as bad as the Thalmor patrols though. Imho the Talmor are arrogant sobs anyway, but usually peaceful. Mention Talos, and suddenly they're all coming for you with their swords out. After a few such encounters I've just started killing every Thalmor I come across.

Well I finally sent Golldir on his merry way (I let him keep his fancy enchanted Dwemer and Elven weapons what I made for him cuz I'm a nice boss, even if I do rob and kill people for a living) after several fatal (to me) attempts to kill a dragon that was harrassing the Rift. I've spent so much time running jobs for the Thieves Guild and now the Dark Brotherhood that I haven't really had time to do anything else, including find Word Walls and kill more dragons except for the one at Kyne's Grove and that's totally scripted and kind of a gimme because you've got a lot of help around like with the first one in Whiterun.

So anyway when I joined the DB I got the first word of Marked For Death but - no dragon soul to unlock it with, so I went ahead and met up with Delphine to see Alduin do his stuff and have some Dovah Soul for dinner. (HA! I see what I did there.)

Then I got a couple more words to unlock but... no souls. I've got some decent Elven armor and weapons now to wear when I'm not in pure sneak thief/assassin mode, and not doing too shabby with the melee combat when it's required. We hear word from the local guards that there's a dragon on the loose in the Rift so we go to check it out and it becomes painfully clear that I still don't have anything that can actually ground one of the beasties, nor can I hope for a melee-based fighter to do all the work if and when I do because generally it comes after me instead since I'm the one who just shouted at it or initiated the attack. I died. So. Many. Times. Finally I just gave up and reloaded the last save before we left Riften, and took Golldir's pretty pretty Orcish armor and said see ya when I see ya bro. Then I hied meself to the ol' Bee 'n' Barb and hired Marcurio for a little ranged destruction magic action.

Went back to the place of my multiple recent demises and it was still a close fight (Elder Dragon, ugh) but we got the SOB on the first try. We're partway through Dead Men's Respite now and he's crouching behind me in the Orchish armor with blood splattered all over him, surrounded by the soft glow of some protective spell with sparks flying off his fingers, complaining about having to carry my stuff. And that's when I realize just how much I've missed him. :O:

Okay - question stemming from one of the first set of contracts I filled for the DB. I had no problem with the first two hits, IIRC I've been back to both areas since with no repercussions. Both were done when the targets were out in the open, albeit in less than high-traffic areas.

However the third one was done within the "city limits" of a smaller hold capital (open city, not walled), since the target apparently never leaves there. I located and trailed the target, then left the city proper and circled back in my full DB gear and one-shot her with an arrow from a good distance away. Went back the way I had come. Crosshairs showed me as hidden for the *entire* exercise, in other words from the time I started back towards the target until I returned to my waiting follower, not a living creature that mattered detected my presence until I got back to where he was waiting for me. IIRC I also used Invisibility potions getting to and from the target.

However, when I tried to go back into the city, I was immediately attacked and pursued by the guards. I had to reload and waited that time until the target went inside her house and then I picked the lock and killed her inside her home. Haven't been back there since to see how that plays out.

So - I'm assuming that as far as the AI is concerned, it's enough that someone sees the victim attacked and/or killed. If so, I'm immediately IDed as the killer, even when no one saw me enter or leave the area, much less pull the metaphorical trigger. Which... um... is really stupid. They should only know that a murder was committed, not who did it unless they actually witnessed that end of the fatal equation. Which they did not, if the HUD is to be trusted at all. They witnessed someone being killed but they did not see me doing the killing, and apparently the game narcs on me anyway.

Also, I thought that even if you got a bounty for murder you could just talk to the guard and pay it off. Maybe that doesn't work right *after* the killing, because they never gave me that opportunity.

Does invisibility even work? I remember in past Elder Scroll games if you cast invisibility the AI wouldn't instantly start in on the "must have been nothing" routine, but in Skyrim if I cast invisibility I get ruthless beaten... the towns people if i'm walking thru still all talk and acknowledge me.

To the best of my own experience it doesn't work or only gives you a small sneak bonus.

Odd, as I just did the first three contracts for the DB killing all three with a bow & arrow, and everything was fine.

I did them all with bow and arrow, the first two that went off (so far) without a hitch were the targets outside Ivarstead and Windhelm respectively. I have been back through the Rift and in Riften and no trouble there from the guards, pretty sure I've been in and around Windhelm as well and no problems there either.

The one I got in trouble on was the miner chick in Dawnstar. I waited and waited and waited and she simply would not go in her house or leave the city proper. Finally in the wee hours she went back to the mine and was hanging around outside the entrance. I had circled back behind the town and was hidden behind the last building in that outer row and the rocks of the ridge behind it.

I can only assume there was a guard near enough to see her take the shot, but I went all the way back behind the row of buildings just below the ridge and back to where I'd left Golldir waiting on the road out of town and was never detected the whole time. Then walked back into town to test the waters and *boom* the entire local constabulary is out for my blood.

I have only used potions for Invisibility, they work fine *if* you were not already detected before taking the potion. So I go to a place where I am already hidden, take the potion, and then come back out and no one can see me. If I'm in sneak mode they generally can't hear me either, altho level of Sneak skill and perks/gear probably factor into that.

However if I have already been seen, taking the potion doesn't seem to help that much since my presence was already known. It's not like I disappear and everyone goes "huh? I guess I just imagined that person standing over there, because now I don't see anyone." Again, Sneak skill/perks and gear may factor into that if you disappear but still try to move, if you can be heard then that could give it away I suppose since they already know you're there somewhere.

With casting the spell, I don't know, but unless you have silent casting as a perk (IIRC there is such a thing) maybe they know that a spell's been cast and that gives your general position away.

I can say that the graphics at least reflect Invisibility with the potions, because I've gone into third person and I'm definitely invisible altho I can see a sort of shimmer to indicate where I am, this apparently is just a way of the game allowing you to see yourself and I don't think NPCs can see it, but maybe they can if they know you were there and are looking for it. :hmmm:

Anybody using this

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6580

or something similar/better to deal with the "friendly fire" problem when you are fighting/traveling alongside more than one ally at a time?

I can't tell from the description and comments whether the mod at that URL only works for dedicated personal followers, or also applies to temporary allies like your masses of friendlies in the Civil War battles and miscellaneous temporary hangers-on that you get on some quests. I love Marcurio, and if I go Imperial I'd love to give him a chance to participate, but never can risk it when any other ally is around because he loves the Chain Lightning just a leeeeeeeetle too much.

In my experience, using invisibility (the spell) lets me disappear even if I've been spotted.). I can attack someone, get noticed, cast invisibility, attack, rinse and repeat.

Also, there is silent casting, you need level 50 in Illusion to get it.

Drewcifer

Yes, Yes, I have a level 81 uber mage. So silent casting I have. Again in my game invisibility doesn't work.

Flat out if I cast it people still talk to me, enemies still attack and me and always know where I am no matter where I run and hide.

So I don't use stealth with mage build its best to just frenzy, let my dead thrall necromancers and their minions attack and read a book.

As far as DB jobs go I've found that ballsier works better. The first job I got was to kill the orphanage owner. I executed that by walking into her home, closing the door when just the two of us were in a room and hacking her to pieces. The kids at the orphanage were all yelling and cheering when they noticed her death, so I guess that's a job well done :)

No problems with guards or anyone else after leaving the house.

That's an anomaly, killing Grelod isn't a job you get from the DB - you get it from the runaway orphan who mistakes you for one of them and won't believe you if you try to tell him you're not. Killing Grelod is, as far as the DB is concerned, stealing one of their contracts and that's what prompts them to contact you and give you the choice of joining them or paying with your own life for interfering with their business.

Once Astrid kidnaps you, you can either join them by killing one of the three captives presented to you, or fight her instead and either kill her or be killed. If you kill one of the captives, you're in the DB. If you fight Astrid and kill her, you can then get the Destroy The Dark Brotherhood quest (which is now your only option as far as the DB stuff is concerned) by reporting it to the Penitatus Oculatus commander at Dragonbridge.

In other words the "hit" on Grelod is not, for the PC, a DB contract - it's a quest that only exists to force contact between the PC and the DB and make the PC choose either to join them or destroy them (or presumably be pursued and attacked by their agents until you do wipe them out - I noticed I was being attacked by a lot of NPCs that were IDed only as "Assassin" with the last character, until I finally got around to to finishing the Destroy quest). The Grelod killing is a plot device designed to jumpstart the DB storyline and the game does not penalize you for making use of it by giving you a bounty for the killing or IDing you to local guards as the killer.

I've killed Grelod three times now, no variation on the scenario makes any difference. Apparently she never leaves the orphanage, but I've killed her "in private" in her room with the door shut, killed her out in the open (not in sneak mode) in full view of the children and the other younger lady who works there, and one-shot her with a bow from the front rooms of the orphanage after entering in sneak mode and remaining undetected throughout. Twice I entered and left the orphanage in broad daylight in full view of guards and townspeople, once I snuck in way after midnight and snuck right back out... it all works out the same. The children are overjoyed, the assistant (if she is present) runs around screaming, and after you walk out the door - nothing. People will comment on the killing, some clearly think the old lady had it coming, some may hint that you know something about it, but as far as being treated like a punishable offense - nope.

As far as I can tell it's scripted that way no matter how you handle it - the only consequence is that it puts you in touch with the DB whether you wanted it or not. As such, the Grelod killing can't be used as a benchmark for how real DB contract killings will work or be treated by guards and other NPCs.

Have you received an anonymous note from a courier that says "We know"? Don't worry, you will. Then it's just a matter of how long you can go without taking a nap. :haha:

Anyway, point is, killing Grelod doesn't mean you're in the DB and it doesn't count as a DB hit; nor does the game handle it the same way it handles other unprovoked attacks, which will get you a bounty and/or aggro from law enforcement if there are witnesses. It's like a "free kill" with no consequences other than that it sets you up for contact with the DB, which is necessary in order to pursue that questline either with them or against them.

Werewolves don't sleep :DL

If by that you mean that you choose never to use the Sleep function in an available bed or other accommodation, then you won't come into direct contact with the DB (other than receiving the warning note mentioned above, or being attacked by unnamed assassins). You'll never be given the opportunity to join them or destroy them. That questline just won't ever be completed. There is only one way to advance it now, and never sleeping will prevent that from happening.

If however you're just referring to the fact that being a werewolf denies you the Rested and Well Rested bonuses when you do sleep, then that won't make any difference where the DB questline is involved. If you find a bed/hayroll/etc. and opt to sleep, not getting the full benefit of the snooze is irrelevant in this case.

Altho IIRC, if you never report back to the kid in Windhelm that you killed Grelod and receive payment from him, things never advance to the stage where the DB contacts you at all. But since you said the quest was marked off as complete I'm assuming you did that, in which case it's only a matter of time or of you choosing to never ever ever sleep again as your current character, werewolf or no. ;)

Also: here is a summary, in dialogue form, of my current feelings about the Thieves Guild.

Delvin: I need you to go to Windhelm and steal 500 septims' worth of merchandise.

Me: Really? That's, like, the third time this week.

Delvin: Just do it or you'll never be Guildmaster.

Me: I've got 10,000 septims on me right now. How 'bout I just give you the lousy 500 and we call it even?

Delvin: ...

Me: *rolls eyes*

Yeah, not much liking this at all. It's a lot of piddly jobs that have to be done to get anywhere. And I'm afraid to advance the main storyline any further because I don't know if that'll make it impossible for me to get any more side jobs until it's finished, and then... what? I'm back to running all over Skyrim planting junk in people's houses and stealing stuff that's worth less than what I can get by raiding one decent bandit lair? :nope:

I did not know that, but it makes sense. When waiting you are basically just loitering motionless in one spot, so why wouldn't a skilled ninja-like stalker be able to bag you and whisk you away?

Lol, I still feel bad for Vilkas from the first time it happened, I mean he's arguably the most skilled of the Companions and they stole his fair wife out of their home and their bed when he was sleeping right next to her. Served me right for taking him out of follower mode, not that it would have made any difference to the abduction part except he would've bloody been there when I went running out of the shack in a fright because of what I'd just done (killed Astrid, not knowing where I was or if there would be other DBers nearby) and it was pitch black outside and I was immediately attacked by frostbite spiders AND a dragon.

Thankfully I'd been carrying the Sanguine Rose with me and to be fair I'm pretty sure it was the dremora who killed Astrid. Anyway he was still tagging along when the dragon hit. It may have been attacking the spiders or vice versa, all I know is I saw very little of anything but when it was over everything was dead but me. :haha:

Beside making contact with the DB, I wonder if sleeping in beds has any noticable effect in the game at all? In practical reality, the theoretical claim on how it benefits the player imho is pretty much - meaningless. I almost never do sleep in beds, I only sometime accelerate time to jump to 9 a.m. to make the shops open.

Sleeping in a bed gives you the rested bonus which is a +5% to your skills progression for 8 hours.

Sleeping in a bed you own or have rented in an inn gives you the same bonus only +10%

Sleeping in the same bed as your spouse if you're married gives you a +15% bonus

And kill cams? Was I the only one who found them very annoying? Even more of them is not much of an improvement for me...

frau kaleun
03-15-12, 08:31 PM
Yeah, you will "learn" your skills faster if you are Well Rested, don't know if just Rested also counts for that or just has a lower bonus. [Edit: Mookie to the rescue!] So whatever you do successfully in the period during which the bonus applies (so many hours after you get up, I guess) advances you a little more quickly to the next level in the corresponding skill.

I never slept much in my previous character after I leveled up a lot, but I'm doing it now, generally because so many of my quests involve sneaking around at night and once I'm done bartering and crafting and making contact with any NPCs I need or want to talk to, there's nothing much to do but sleep the rest of the day away.

One nice thing about being awake and active at night, is that I can finish a job and then get to the nearest city with all my stuff before the open crafting stations are busy (smithies are closed for business, etc.) and do any work before I have to dodge shoppers and merchants or compete with artisans for their workspaces. :yeah:

Also, funny follower moment of the day: went to RatsI'mBald or whatever that Dwemer ruin is to fulfill some DB contract paid for by a conned and jilted ex-lover of one of the dudes hanging out there. Chamber where he's at is also full of other bandits and the like, including one boss bandit chief in Steel Plate (gawd I hate those guys). He was actually the second one in that ruin, too. Must've been having a convention. I nail the primary target whilst hiding on the ledge above with one arrow and they do not take kindly to it AT ALL. :haha:

Anyway I've got some space left in the ol' rucksack for extra loot and we aren't too far from Windhelm where I can sell it all off, so I figure WTH and get a second fatal hit with another arrow on one of the lesser hostiles but the rest come running and I have to switch to shield and 1H. And at one point I had to run down the stairs to get away from the bandit chief long enough to not die while I guzzled some health potions for a second round of melee. I jump down the last bit which gives me a bit of an edge, and by the time I turn around Marcurio has recovered from being downed temporarily, killed the rest of the bandits, and unleashed a devastating attack on the chief to the point where all I have to do is bash him once with the shield and smack him upside the helmet with my Elven Mace of How Does It Feel To Be Set On Fire, Not So Good, Huh? and he's down for the count.

To make a long story short way after the possibility of that has up and disappeared like the Deep Ones, it got pretty hairy but the forces of righteousness - well, okay, not so much that as your friendly neighborhood thief and assassin - eventually triumphed through a clever combination of skill, effort, and desperate flight from the field of battle while somebody else did the heavy lifting.

About the time I realize Bandit Chief Burnt To A Crisp is finally dead, I look up to see the Magigolo standing there and he just says, all cool like,

"You know, the Dwemer were well known for their use of ingenious traps. I'd be careful walking around in here."

Or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact words. But I lolled because after all of that he's just giving me a lecture on Dwemer technology and its associated perils all cool as a cucumber. :haha:

Edit: oh and I just bought the "services" of the cute widdle war doggie from the Markarth Stables so I'm off to investigate "friendly fire" mods to keep him from eating Marcurio the first time we encounter Forsworn on the way home. I'm curious to see if this guy lasts longer than the strays I've picked up, their lifespan with me can usually be counted off in New York Minutes.

Or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact words. But I lolled because after all of that he's just giving me a lecture on Dwemer technology and its associated perils all cool as a cucumber. :haha:

Lydia is another one who always cracks me up when we come across a dungeon:

[Extremely enthousiastic tone]"Oh look, a cave! I wonder what's inside..."

As if she just hasn't learned after going through tens of them and always getting beaten up and attacked while inside :DL

And kill cams? Was I the only one who found them very annoying? Even more of them is not much of an improvement for me...

While middle in combat yes I think they could become very annoying since it's distracting.

If they only happen with the last guy in combat I wouldn't mind.

So far I think I've only gotten killcams for myself when finishing off the last bad guy in the area, or when one of them kills me. I'm using the first killmove mod I ever downloaded which I don't think adds a lot of stuff but every other one I tried added killmoves in the middle of combat when there are still other enemies around, and... no thanks. I always end up taking them off after one round of gameplay and reverting to the old one again.

@Fincuan: my funniest "cave" moment with the Magigolo was on our discovery of Frostflow Lighthouse. "There's a cave here... "

Uh, thanks, Mr. Know It All. Spoiler much? :rotfl2:

Based on what I read at that link and the other article it linked to, it looked like (if it's all true) they had hired a completely different team just for the MMO project or even subcontracted the whole thing out. Not like the actual TES development team at Bethesda was going to be putting it together.

Question: if I have a scroll that says it sets "undead" on fire, does that work on vampires? I'm never sure if I should save that stuff just for draugr, not that I remember to use it then either :O:, but I've come across a couple of vampire dens where something like that would've been mighty handy. I'm assuming it will not also set my un-undead followers on fire, so long as they're not right up close to whatever it does work on. :hmmm:

And they wouldn't have to be registered as "hostile" yet, right? I mean, in theory I could sneak in and unleash the thing and they'd all go "whoomp" and be set ablaze even before they knew I was there.

Well, it's worth a try. Vampires are definitely undead.

I need to recruit these two for the Thieves Guild, cuz they're running the best scam in Skyrim:

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5246/dragonscam.jpg

What they do is, they cover themselves in soot and grime and then wander around from hold to hold telling passersby that a dragon just showed up and pwned everything they have, and poor suckers like me feel sorry for them and give them money. I must've already given them enough to buy a first class carriage ride out of the country and set themselves up for life in a less dragon-intensive part of the world.

Yeah, there are some cool things about the Civil War questline, but the actual battles for forts and cities aren't really that great in terms of obstacles to be overcome, aside from just killing enough of the enemy NPCs.

Has anyone tried the mod that creates more epic and frequent clashes between the two sides? I mean, ones that just happen as you travel around and aren't scripted for the PC to play a specific part in? I looked at it but it seemed like you'd need a monster rig to run it well. It would make the civil war angle more interesting and pervasive, though, because it would be apparent that there's really a major conflict going on even if you don't pick a side, instead of just small apparently random skirmishes between enemy patrols here and there.

In other news, it's fun to kill Thalmor. :D I hadn't really decided what to do with them as this character (aside from what was required to complete specific quests) and since I'll go Imperial this time if I do join the war, I wasn't sure about just killing them outright on sight. But early on when I was still very low level and had crap light armor and crap weapons and not much health and stamina to spare, I was trying to sneak back across the tundra at night from some place out by the Rorikstead road and into Whiterun and all of a sudden I was under attack and I could see magic happening on the other end and thought it was a necromancer or something. Turned out it was a group of Thalmor and they killed me dead.

When it reloaded at my last save I decided to take a longer way around and avoid that area and made it okay... but I have no clue why they just attacked me, I wasn't close enough to be a threat and I had avoided contact with them up to that point. I can't remember an unprovoked attack by them with my previous characters so I don't think it was just because: Dragonborn and they don't like that for some reason... if that were the case, I think more of them would have been attacking me if we crossed paths away from inhabited areas.

Anyway I kinda decided then that when I got strong enough I'd kill them whenever I got the chance, which has come around on several occasions. I don't bother provoking them by starting up a conversation any more, altho I think I did that the first time just to give my character even more of an excuse to consider them worthy targets. Since I'm playing a Dunmer I didn't even go with the "I believe in Talos" response, I just said nothing and that was enough.

Now I pass some on the road who leave me alone, but after I kill a group I'll get attacked by the next ones I see provided there are no potential witnesses around. Sometimes right after I take out a group I'll get attacked by a couple Imperial soldiers here and there as well, but I don't care, we'll sort out that issue if and when I join up with them later on. Somehow I don't think Tullius will hold it against me. :O:

What is odd is that I just got attacked by a Vigilant of Stendarr, I wonder does this start to happen if you acquire a bunch of the Daedric artifacts? As a Dunmer I decided to do as many of those quests as possible and finish them "properly" to get all the prizes, so I'd completed three or four of them and was on my way back to Markath to finish the Molog Bal one when we saw a Flame Atronach a ways off fighting someone, couldn't see who. The Atronach lost and then someone came towards us, I wasn't sure if it was an enemy or not and I was in sneak mode and undetected.

Well, about the time I realized it was someone from the Vigil and came out of sneak and sheathed my weapons, the Vigilant yells "There you are" and I think he's spotted whoever conjured the Atronach, but instead he attacks me. First time that's ever happened. :hmmm:

And I have to say, I'm not sure what happens to Marcurio if you marry him, but it seems like he loses a lot of his follower dialogue when you do that, because I've kept him as a hireling this time and his dialogue when we're out adventuring is far more varied and thus entertaining than I remember from playing the character that married him. I guess it's true what they say about marriage taking all the spark out of a relationship. :haha:

Also had one of my saddest moments ever, as I've become very fond of the Khajiit caravaners... and it's not just because they look like big kitteh kats, altho I suppose that helps. There's just something about their manner and attitude towards the PC that I liked right from the start. I know it may well be just a clever front for a bunch of criminal masterminds, but it's a very appealing front, lol. And as a Thief and Assassin I really can't take issue with it if it is.

Anyway I'm running the TG and DB questlines concurrently and I finally get the one from the Guild where I have to deliver something to the head Khajiit of all the caravans to cut a deal with him. He's on the road between Markarth and Whiterun and so I head that way but I need to report into the DB sanctuary on completed work and pick up my next jobs.

What do you think my next hit is? I have to kill one of the Khajiit that travels with the caravan leader I've got to talk to for the Thieves Guild. And they've never been anything but nice to me! Especially that group, they trade in Whiterun so I see them and talk to them all the time!

So, yeah, I did the job - actually was kinda proud of it, I cut the deal with the leader when they were camped outside the city and then waited until they were on the road again and set up a long range ambush... got him with my trusty bow, I was hiding up the side path that leads to Brittleshin Pass and after I got the confirmation on the kill I hightailed it into the Pass and came out on the Falkreath side. Poor kittehs never knew what hit them. But now I can hardly look the rest of them in the eye when I have business with them. :nope:

OTOH this did not stop me from looting his cold dead body clean when I found it still lying on the road a few days later. :arrgh!:

The prolong of this game has no limits, multiplayer is one. Bethseda could one day put out an arena option, say there were arenas in cities where we could challenge other players online. This could be done, think of that viking game Rune with the arena multiplayer option and still ther are players slashing it out with others online today and that game is like 8-10yrs old. I wish I could play Rune online more but the servers running are always somewhere on the other side of the planet Scandinavia or Germany my ping is always in the 300's so I mainly stick to lan matches.

What I would really like to see and is probably impossible without making a whole new game is in Skyrim if we could do the pvp thing in the game world - assassins waiting in the shadows while you are happily of on a quest and he/shes about to ruin your day. Archers being a pain and taking you out from a distance, mages arcaning yur ass and the plate wearer going all conan on you and taking your loot if you lose the fight, yes lose the fight then a percentage of your precious loot goes to the victor & maybe with bounty hunter quests where a player is marked for death - would be assassin heaven. Not an mmo no go collect 30 spider eggsacks ect you quest as normal but the game world is pvp enabled. Skyrims world is perfect for this.

Wishful thinking...

Checked that one, not the one I was looking for but it did mention it so I found it anyway - Warzones Civil Unrest. The guy was working on an option that would let you downscale the number of new spawned NPCs, for those who can't run the original version without problems, but it doesn't seem to be available yet. :hmmm:

I was just curious to see the system specs of anyone running the mod successfully to get an idea of whether or not it's worth trying without the downscale option.

I was thinking of a possible DLC for Skyrim, The Return to Morrowind.

Bear me out, I wager that when the Red Mountain went up it went up like Krakatoa, thus all the areas around the mountain would be vaporised, however places further out on the Azure coast and Solestheim would be primarily buried under ash with some blast damage. There would probably be a new volcano formed in the ruins of Red Mountain, just as Anak Krakatoa lies where Krakatoa exploded.

The quest line could start as an archeological dig in the ruins of...I dunno...Balmora, and go on from there, featuring the in-fighting of House Haalu and Telvanni and so forth, and perhaps feature something dark lurking in the ruins of the Red Mountain.
