The definition of stupidity on my part. Was streaming it to a mate while we gabbed and said too "I should probably save here and call it a night, and just stalk until night hours next time, ah screw it, lets go for a submerged attack." Absolute foolishness. I'm so very cross with myself lmao. This is two careers now (years apart, mind you) I've gotten a boat sunk in the waning months of the war.

Well gents, haste makes waste.

Patrol 6, no return: USS Tirante overdue and declared lost...The loss of CDR Lee and his experienced crew was sharply felt at COMSUBPAC. In a rarely seen six patrols across three commands, CDR Lee was responsible for what JANAC concludes was 129, 152 GRT of enemy shipping.

Thanks as always for those who read these patrol logs, and of course for the modding efforts!

Fair winds and following seas, CDR Lee. :()1:

Great writeup! It's cool to see and be a part of the thread's tiny Renaissance. I've also slowly been making my way through Taff in Exile's SH4 YT series (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4nq3Nojj9sReXfxHAx42O4vS1tiDS7_A).

Lmao

Interesting, the reasoning for the five patrol policy for submarine commanders plays out in the sim at times. I believe welcome prone to risks, having slipped away countless other times. For example, you knew it was best to wait, got for attack at night on surface, but said "ah, screw it."
Happened to me before lol.

Regardless, the risk in the mod in 1945 is far greater due to the Japanese ASW being at its peak (naval and airborne), operations are primary in coastal waters so no depth to hide in. Night surface attacks are best way, of course they have their own risks also. Plus, may not be able to regain contact with the targets, as they do duck into harbors, coves etc. along coastal areas. Always a balancing act.

Obviously no lives are at risk but when think about it, as a simulation, a lot of time and effort is invested in a proper campaign, so getting killed is aggravating and disappointing, especially if you don't do the "try" again and just consider the boat lost, start a new career as I do, unless testing.
