If Leeds will buy Zlatan he makes easily 50 goals...

TOON lead 1-0 at half time against WestHam

Well done to Newcastle, a 3-0 win against West Ham, I wouldn't say it was a good win against a good team because the Hammers are playing as though its the first time they've ever played football.

Another 12 results like that will help keep you away from the relegation scrap, add an extra 10 points for the draws you could get and it might not be such a calamity season after all.

I can't say that for the Hammers though, I thought Bilic had finally turned it around at the end of last season but unfortunately he hasn't, these 4 away games were vital and his players are letting him down badly.
I don't expect them to be relegated this year but if these results keep coming up week on week its going to be a question of when he's fired and not if he's fired, Gold, Sullivan and Brady, those 3 would give the devil himself the creeps.

Should be relatively easy game today. Now that I wrote it after seven o'clock I'm here like this:k_confused:

Anyhow new owner has been busy. Over dozen new contracts and almost same amount of extensions. Most importantly he bought back Elland Road. Perhaps some good times lay ahead...

Some managers adapt a system to fit the players they have.

Some try to fit their players in to the system they have.

de Boer is in the second category. It rarely works, unless the players you have are oozing class and can do a job regardless of role.

Palace is hardly oozing class. de Boer tried to shoehorn the players he had in to what he felt was a successful system. But Townsend isn't a wingback. Zaha is no center attacking mid, he's a winger. Three across the back was a reach as well, considering the personnel. And so on and so on.

While I feel he wasn't given enough time (nor a good squad), it was still obvious, I think, that he wasn't going to adapt, and I think he would have stuck with what wasn't working regardless of results, because in his mind the system was sound. And maybe it is. But a system without the proper players to implement it is always going to show in the results.

Threadfin
09-11-17, 12:46 PM
And I heard that they're thinking of Uncle Roy.

You can't follow a mistake with another. Palace has to get this appointment right. I don't think that would be getting it right.

Hi Jimbuna Leeds have had 13 years of hurt three different owners Pappa Smurf (AKA Ken Bates) who only bought Leeds Utd not for footballing reasons but hoping he would get the go ahead for a casino hotel and restaurant akin to the Chelsea Village when he was knocked back he sold Leeds to the next Group of chancers G.F.H. Capital aka the bank of sand hoping Leeds would get promoted with out any squad strengthening they sold 75% of Leeds to Cazy Italian Massimo Massive Ego Cellino the manager eater he gets through em quicker than me and you necking a 12 pack of the nectar of the Northern Gods
Newkie Browns now we have a new owner Andrea Radrizzani is like a tin of ronseal he does what says he's he's going to do he's bought Elland Road Back
given the ground a face lift our new manager Thomas Christiansen was unheard of but he's doing a good job Leeds Fans are Like Newcastle fans very passionate about there team and they are coming back in droves Gary Monk and Chris Wood were big loses but goals are being scored by defenders midfields and strikers now last season we depended on Chris Wood to much
but its still early days we will get a better idea by Christmas

Once the Mackems drop one more position and Bernard ajusts the trim and they level off and settle on the silt wont they be on solid foundations in a strong position propping up the rest of the championship

but it'll soon be January and when the transfer window reopens Leeds may buy Crinkly Bottoms keeper

TOON went down 1-0 at Burnley last night and having watched the game it simply reinforced my belief that the club must be sold and funds given to Rafa to strengthen the squad.

I pop in every couple of months, and this time to say I have to eat my words about Uncle Woy. Still can't believe it, but he's righted the ship. Fair play to him.

Same with Moyes, though I didn't run my mouth about his hire. He's also done the job. Publicly, West Ham are saying Carroll's not for sale, but if I were them I would take the money and run. Fast. Same with Chicarito if anyone is interested. Of course this would leave them with Arnautovic as the only senior striker, but there's still time. Hernandez doesn't fit the bug-eyed Scot's system, and Carroll is a perpetual knee injury in waiting. Cut your losses while other clubs are still willing to buy him. That window won't be open long.

Liverpool still an exciting train-wreck. Though lately they've seemed to keep it under control. I like the van Dijk acquisition, it addresses the biggest need, and with a quality player who should anchor the line for years to come. Exhorbitant fee, but should he still be there 5 years from now it will prove shrewd business. The win over City was massive, and I'm hoping they can continue to push on. No reason not to, and maybe they'll splash a little more of that Coutinho cash, hopefully on a good left back or maybe a new center forward as well. If Can isn't going to resign, they should be looking for a holding mid now.And for God's sake, get a good keeper! Arrghh.

Lastly, the Real Madrid slow-motion crash is sort of fun to watch in a morbid way. Somehow it's satisfying when the most smug and arrogant get their comeuppance, innit? A year ago Zidane was a genius, now he is clueless. I think it's more a matter of he looked to be a great manager, and we just misread the signs. He seems completely unable to right things. The fact that he sees his under-performing stars as undroppable is a situation that Madrid have no one to blame for but themselves. They may even miss out on a Champion's League place, and what a hoot that would be.

Well it's been a particularly disappointing window I must say. I'm not one for gossip nor rumors, unless they concern football transfers, in which case I can not get enough. So this window has left me feeling a bit depressed. Not enough action, nor has there been enough rumors of action.

But there is still time, though not much.

As for the TOON striker search.... they desperately need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net. Someone who can come in and grab eight or ten goals in the second half of the season. Not so easy to find though. I had thought they should make a run at Chicharito. Now I hear it's Sturridge, expected by lunch, but a no show? Rumors, yeah. What about Giroud? Haven't seen enough of Newcastle this year to know if they'd be better off with a target man or a poacher. Probably doesn't matter much as long as they find the net. Takeover talks spanning transfer windows should be outlawed. as the real losers are the Newcastle supporters.

Years ago I recall playing a long save on one of the Football Manager games as Newcastle. FM 2009 maybe? Not sure, probably later as I had Demba Ba and Cisse. FM 2011 probably. Anyway, Adam Campbell was in the reserves, and I groomed him and brought him up. He ended his career a Legend, with over 600 goals in all competitions. A poacher of the highest calber. Money. Oh, what could have been :D

Actually, I see he's at Morecambe now and has amassed 13 goals in his career. What's Shearer up to? Sign him up.

There are now claimed to be 2 in and 4 out for Newcastle on deadline day, with the possibility of another 2 moves making it 8 deals in total.

Henri Saivet’s loan move to Sivasspor in Turkey has now gone through, the player flying in last night and after passing his medical, was confirmed as a loan signing today with possibility of it being made permanent in the summer.

More importantly, two incoming deals are said to have been agreed by Newcastle.

Islam Slimani is reported to be expected on Tyneside this afternoon to take a medical and finalise his loan move, though a thigh injury is said to be set to keep him out for a fortnight. No confirmation as yet in terms of whether it will include an option/clause to be made permanent.

Newcastle are also awaiting the arrival of Martin Dubravka. The 29 year old goalkeeper flying into Newcastle after finally being allowed to leave Sparta Prague after they agreed a deal for a replacement. His loan deal is said to have a permanent option attached. Rob Elliot has a back injury and this helps explains Rafa making a keeper deal a priority, which confused many fans.

In terms of outgoing, the arrival of Dubravka now means that according to Sky Sports, after appearing on the bench tonight against Burnley, Freddie Woodman will then quickly conclude a loan move to Aberdeen which will allow him to get some first team football.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is joining Anderlecht on loan until the end of the season, whilst Rolando Aarons has turned down Hull and Sky Sports report that instead he is joining Hellas Verona on loan until the summer. The Serie A club is managed by Rafa’s former assistant Fabio Pecchia.

Meanwhile, the Shields Gazette claim that Jack Colback is in talks with Nottingham Forest over a move, with no details on whether that would be loan or permanent, or bit of both…

There have also been claims that Newcastle could bring in another mystery player on loan…

So on the face of it, two in and four out today look very likely, with Colback out and another loan in, maybe also on the cards.

Obviously pleased that at last Rafa Benitez is getting some kind of freedom in trading players in and out but what a mess leaving it all until the last day, apart from the Kenedy loan deal.

He could be a good fit. He wasn't at Leicester, he isn't going to be chasing down balls over the top like Vardy. But at Newcastle, he can get on the end of balls whipped in to the box from out wide. If he can get good service, I think he will come good. Six goals between now and May isn't a stretch.

As for saving them from the drop? I probably agree with you. He alone won't be enough. But I can see this working well for player and club.

A bit of action today, Aboomerang for Michy Batsh!tcrazy for le Lamp Post. Everyone's happy. Well, aside from BvB supporters, but their season ended 3 months ago. They're in trouble until they can hire a real manager.

What a weekend. A few of my random observations...

Harry Kane should be ashamed of himself. Until diving can be reviewed and more importantly, disciplined, post-match, this stuff will continue. I think the level of the con is directly proportional to the size of the grimace. Robben has grimace-face down to an art. When the grimace is turned toward the referee so he can see it better, it's an extra 2 games on the suspension. Make me the diving czar and I will stamp it out right quick.

Simulation is the single worst thing about the game (aside from clubs paying agents' fees and Sam Allardyce blaming his players)., but it will never stop unless it is punished. As it stands, all you need to do is deceive the ref. Job done. No fear of being penalized after the match. This needs to change.

Like Mapuc, this was my first chance to see a full Newcastle match. They showed heart and desire, seemed athletic and fit. But they lack quality, all over the pitch. Heart and desire can only take you so far. They needed to bring in a match winner or two. Should they go down, the lack of impact signings in this window will surely be a big part of the reason. If Shelvey is your best player, you lack quality. This isn't exactly news to TOON fans, but clearly evident even to neutrals like me. They need a proven finisher.

Breaking news: Harry Kane qualifies for England Olympic team. Will compete in 10-meter springboard. Says England coach Rip Sprinkle-Waters "You saw the tiny make believe bicycle Harry was riding as he fell? Judges love that. Worth an extra five-tenths easy"

Mo Salah is a magician. Never imagined the impact he would have on his return to England. What a great story, and he's easy to root for. Was he offside for 'Pool's second? Awesome goal. Too bad Lamela went to Robben's School of Grimacing. Ol' Arjen himself must be quite proud.

http://cdn3-i.hitc-s.com/862/tottenham_hotspurs_argentinian_midfielder_erik_lam ela_l_goes_dow_695347.jpg

It must have been a penalty because afterwards, Lamela said, it hurt. This shot is what, a half second after contact? That's a mighty quick grab of the old hammy and the grimace is timed perfectly, although he's failed to spin it around so Moss could have a better look. Gotta work on that Erik, otherwise, brilliant work.

Le Professor is clearly out of it. He got himself a fine win, yes. All is OK again, right? I'm sure Ramsey will be banging them in for fun the rest of the season. I couldn't re-find the quote for this post, but I saw how he was saying how he needs more defensive depth, and was lamenting how he would have to soldier on with youth teamers and reserves. He said this the day after the window closed! If I were a Gunner, I'd be stoopid drunk until Wenger is gone. And then for a while after just in case.

This was a happy surprise TOON served their supporters.

I was not expecting the TOON would win to be honest, maybe a draw or on goal up(like 0-1) if they were lucky.

I guess it has to do with two things.

1. Man U played like they already had won the match-I got the feeling like they weren't really up to it.

2. TOON played very well, they had some misses but the goalkeeper kept them above the surface.

As I see it the TOON need to work on two major things and one smaller thing.
Their defense and their offense need improvement-
Their Midfield need little improvement.

POOL got a fine win, with two exquisite goals from Firmino and Salah. They sit third, two points behind United, two ahead of Spurs and four ahead of Chelsea. I want to believe they'll see it through, would be great to get automatic qualification for the CL. If they continue to play this way then it's possible. But we all know they can flatter to deceive.

I watched that match, and have seen most of Liverpool's matches this season. The interplay between the forwards is so impressive, fantastic teamwork, selflessness, spirit. Of course they are not an elite team, because they have issues at the back, and certainly in goal. Perhaps Allisson will be the answer should Klopp be able to bring him in. Keita should be an instant upgrade in the center of the park, but that's all for the future.

The point I was eventually going to come to is... having watched Liverppol's match, and the PSG-Madrid match, it was striking how different things are. Teamwork, especially among the attacking tridents at Real and PSG, is non-existent.

You'd think Neymar and Cavani are on different teams, for the amount of interplay between them, as Neymar attempts to dribble past every opponent. And Ronaldo didn't pass to Benzema once. Not one time! How is that even possible?

Liverpool have a strong team collective, and though I fear the holes in the side may prove fatal, there may not be another team left in the competition playing as well at the moment. Could Liverpool win it?

After fifteen minutes against Bristol C and I began to think is my 5£ for Strachan still eligible. However Leeds managed to pull off a quite remarkable come back. Too bad Lasogga hit the bar during last minutes...

Hopefully problems are gone and playoffs are still achievable...

Eight points away from a playoff place is no small ask but there are still a considerable number of points to be played for.

Meanwhile.....mackems go down 0-2 at home to Brentford :)

Mackems went down 0-1 at Bolton on Tuesday so now firmly anchored at foot of the table and the owner has offered the club to anyone for free so laong as they are prepared to underwrite what is possibly £170 million of debt.

Obltn Strand
02-23-18, 08:21 AM
Last time I checked asking price had dropped from 100 million to 50. Now it's free...besides the debt...confusing...

I remember Leyton Orient being on sale för 5£....

Two of Sunderlands biggest problems are declining attendances (insufficient income to service the debt interest) and too many mediocre players on Premiership wages (Rodwell for example is on £70,000 per week and is just about refusing to play).

Well, lucky for the TOON, you have Uncle Woy down below, and the shine has dulled on his project as of late, hasn't it.

And Alan "You feel vulnerable when hearing things not being said" Pardew is still running things at West Brom, though not for long I'd reckon, so you've got that going for you as well.

So you only need one of Swansea, Stoke, or Southampton to maintain form and you'll stay up. Moyes is likely to botch things as well. TOON will probably survive by being less bad than the others :) You've got the best goal difference of the bottom clubs too.

POOL won, 4-1 over West Ham. TOON visit Anfield next weekend.

I'd agree except for Albion, they're well and truly out of it I reckon, though stranger things have happened.

Traditionally, 38 points is enough to ensure safety, and coincidentally perhaps, is the exact number of points that a team would claim having drawn every match.

Three wins from their final 10 would hit exactly 38, if they lost the other 7. Seems a safe bet. Huddersfield and West Brom at home, and Watford away are must-wins I'd say.

No reason they can't nick a few more points from Southampton and Everton. The rest of their matches look difficult, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and the Gunners, who look short of everything at the moment, so you never know. Leicester too, another opportunity there.

I have faith in the Rafalution.

You have to admire Rafa. Well, you don't HAVE to, but you know what I mean. He really is a master tactician. He has an extraordinary ability to set his team up to counter the opposition, to nullify their strengths.

I'm not a TOON supporter, but honestly I hope they can be rid of Ashley soon, so that Rafa might get in the players he needs. A club like Newcastle shouldn't be yo-yo'ing every other season.

I always mock the phrase 'too big to fail', as anything can happen in football. But Newcastle are too big to face this sort of uncertainty every season. The fans deserve better. I can only imagine the frustration you Geordies must feel when you realize what could be, then have to look at that smug face and know your great club is little more than an investment and marketing vehicle.

Ashley Out!

Liverpool difficult to beat at home especially against teams aiming for a draw the Scousers weakness has been away results for many seasons

If there was a league for £££ spent per goal Newcastle would probably be in the top third

If I was a Toons supporter I would be more than frustrated by this and what seems to me unconsistantant strategies. Fitness and a lack of of quality on the subs bench obviously not helping

I watched 3 Toon games last season, everyone was like they gave up after 40 mins had no drive or self belief but when up against some quality opposition in other matches they show serious talent

Maybe the Players priority is to shine only against top teams so they can get a good transfer deal ££££££££££££££££££

MUFC drop down to 3rd spot will obviously be only temporary setback . Trust Me !

So the Staveley takeover is over? Are there any other offers?

It's one thing to have a self-imposed transfer embargo due to takeover talks, if the sale goes through. But it's another thing entirely to do so and then have the sale fall through. It's the opposite of have your cake and eat it too, it's like burn your cake and throw it out with the trash. Bah, I couldn't think of a good one.

TOON will stay up I think, and there's another year to rid yourselves of Ashley.

I've heard various things like she insisted on relegation clauses, or that she can't come up with the funds, and it was all a big waste of time. Some say she might come back in with a bid if Newcastle can confirm their Premier League place for next season. Any insight in to this Jimbuna?

Heard yesterday the English Foreign Minister Boris Johnson Saying there is a possibility that England would not be a part of the World Cup in Russia this summer.

It makes me sad when politicians mix sports and politics.

I wonder what the sports and football-loving people in England have said to this statement.

Only FIFA is permitted to mix politics with football. They come down hard on any nation that exerts political influence on the sport. But they have no problem doing it themselves. I have made anti-FIFA rants earlier in this thread, so I will try and keep it civil.

I don't know enough about England's position here to comment one way or the other. And I agree politics has no business here. But it is the modern sportscape. FIFA is going to award the World Cup to Morocco instead of the North American bid, simply because they don't like Trump, nor do they like their corruption exposed. Just watch.

So they will ignore the fact that a North American World Cup would require no new infrastructure, no new transportation networks and be the most well-attended tournament in history. And instead give it to Morocco, so they can spend billions and do to their country what the World Cup did to South Africa and to Brazil, just to name two. Madness. But FIFA will get their money. And the Moroccan people can pay for it, in ways that cannot just be measured in monetary terms.

FIFA is a joke.

It took me a few minutes to catch up. So this boycott is in 'potential' retaliation for Russia 'allegedly' attempting to poison one of it's former spies on a London park bench?

That'll teach 'em. Politicians are so lame. Boycott the World Cup? If it weren't so absurd it would be funny. How does that affect anything at all?

Answer: It doesn't. But the politicians can say they did something. Doesn't matter if it was actually effective or not. And I guess England can spend the next four years saying, well we could have won the World Cup, probably would have actually, if it weren't for nerve agents and double spies.

What a world we live in.

This comment is more about being a fan and a discussion I had with my nephew

Many years ago my nephew asked me if I was a fan of any team

I said yes I have a team in England, Newcastle I follow and a ice hockey team in Sweden, Roegle(Rögle) who I also follow.

Are you a big fan of these teams

Had to admit I wasn't married to these two teams, it is more a friendly relationship I have with these two teams.

Well then you aren't a real fan. A fan is married with their teams they follow.
I'm married to my Ice hockey team(Luleå) and Barcelona(Barca) too, he said to me.

We jump ahead about a year
I was visiting him and his girlfriend
I asked my nephew if he was planning on taking a trip to Malmo
Here is replied - Why
Because you team Luleå is playing
Who wants to see these losers playing

Said to him

So you dropped you team og divorced from them because they are almost last in this years series.

And you said , that I wasn't a real fan, maybe you are right.
I have since the end of the 80's, been following Newcastle and they are my team and will be so, whether they win the league or drop all the way down to league 2 or 3.
