Some pages back I gave an update on a movie I just seen then it was
Everything Everywhere All at Once
I gave it 1 out of 5/6 submarines for its originality
To my great surprise this movie won 7 Oscars yesterday.

I haven't seen this yet, so it's a bit hard to give an honest opinion.
It's a 2005 remake of "GI Samurai" from 1979. Looks like it's heavy on the CGI, and a bit woke..... I gather there's some headgames going on with the plot....."Should we change History to ensure a better Future????"
Early Opinion.....1979 movie had a better feel to it. I don't like the "Dark Print" of the 2005 version....:hmmm:

Old People.
Jesus ******* christ, I couldn't write a review of this film without using a huge number of profanities, so as it is I'll just give it a rating out of 10 and leave you some one else's thoughts on this pile of ******* horse manure.
Movie Rating 2\10.

Someone Else's Review
The setup is relatively novel, but this violent gorefest jumps on the silly train halfway in. The beginning of Old People sets it up to be quite promising, but too many frustrating elements keep this movie from being something worth watching. First, the film never articulates or says something beyond "society has forgotten its older population, thus this is their wrath." But this still formula doesn't give any humanity, agency, or power to older people, individually or as a group, and even further, dangerously demonizes them: "If you don't treat older people better, they'll kill you!" What's odd is that the sentiment is meant to be a lesson, but what kind of lesson is it exactly? What if the group of people in question were an ethnic group or a particular race of people? Then the message would be, "Please, treat this group of people better, or else they'll kill you!"
The film is also shot in such bad lighting that in 80% of the scenes it's literally too difficult to see what's going on. Also, the plot is formulaic, and nothing that happens is surprising or all that creative. But while the acting is commendable and earnestly given, the worst offense is the writing, which has characters often doing stupid things or making dumb decisions, which completely dissolves any suspension of disbelief. For instance, when Ella, safe inside a house and with others for protection, can't find her son, she thinks it smart to go outside (where all the murderous zombies are, and who have shown no ability to talk or understand anything) and scream, "Where is my son?" instead of simply staying in the house. Too many equally stupid decisions like this kill any connection to the characters one might still have by the end of the film.

I have watched this movie several times now, seven or eight times, and every time I watched it I was more impressed by it and understood more nuances in it. Its a masterpiece, and, as the author of this video says at the end, one of the best and most subtle SciFi movies ever made. Brilliance acchieved by applying simple tools but in perfect subtelty.

This is an interesting movie and there's not many of them about these days, no CGI, no Super Heroes and definitely no stepping over dead bodies in their thousands with this film. I did find some of the scenarios a bit simple and some probably unrealistic too but as I've never been to the USA I cannot say with certainty if these events would happen or not. It was an enjoyable watch and I didn't think once of fast forwarding some parts or even turning it off as I watched events unfold, pretty remarkable for a movie with such a low budget.

With much anticipation, I finally got to see the movie " Greyhound " with Tom Hanks. It came out during Covid and was never at the movie theaters. The movie was just about 90 minutes long and overall, I was a bit disappointed. The movie is about Destroyers in WW2 protecting the Convoy system and battling wolf pack U-Boats.
The movie showed U-boats on the surface engaging Destroyers. The Destroyer Tom Hanks was commanding appeared to me to be a Fletcher Class. The Fletcher class was between 2000-2500 tons with a full load and had a top speed of about 35 knots. U-boats were rather fragile vessels and would never take the punishment well armed Destroyers could bring. Not for long, anyhow.
As Destroyers go, the Fletcher class was bigger than most and approaching the size of cruisers. No U-boat Captain would take on a Destroyer like that unless it was a case of desperation and not being able to dive. The movie made for good cinema but sorely need a reality check.

I did read the book and I'm betting you have as well. :yep: As with all movies that have been adapted from books, like Red October among many others, there is a lot of material that doesn't carry over to the movies.
Even so, there is no documented evidence of U-boats engaging destroyers in running gun battles, especially at close quarters like the 50ft or 15.25 meters depicted in the movie. By all accounts, the U-boat commanders in the war of the Atlantic were very skilled and all too effective in causing a great deal of destruction to the merchant ships in transit to England and other places. These U-boat Commanders would never have acted so recklessly.

Zombieland
Columbus has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee doesn't have fears. If he did, he'd kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they're about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m9EVP8X7N8
Cast: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin.
What a fun watch this was, its a comedy horror Movie that focuses more on the comedy than the horror, whoever did the casting for it should have been paid out in gold bars with a handful of diamonds as well. Woody Harrelson was a great choice for his role in this film and, that hottie Emma Stone, was snapping away like a crocodile on his heels to take second place. I'm not gonna say what happens in this film as it would spoil the entertainment for you, suffice to say that its a comedy movie done in the American style and it might not be up to most countries idea of what makes a good comedy movie. Anyway, the movie didn't need to have too much comedy in it as the crazy gang provided most of the fun, just for once the characters were all likeable for a change.
Rating for Zombieland 7.3\10
Zombieland: Double Tap
The group will face a new zombie threat as a new breed of zombie has developed. This new super-zombie type is faster, bigger, and stronger than the previous strain of zombies and harder to kill. These super-zombies have started grouping up into a horde going from city to city leaving a path of destruction behind them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlW9yhUKlkQ
Much the same comedy horror as the first film with two more characters added to the crazy gang, I must say that the addition of Madison was just what this movie needed.
Rating for Zombieland Double Tap 7.1\10
Special mention For Tallahasse and Madison who were bleeding awesome characters.

I'm not sure if this film is supposed to be a scary Movie or a comedy Movie, well, which ever it was designed to be it failed on both counts, was it a good movie?, if you liked the "Jaws" Movies you should enjoy this one as well, Its a lot faster paced than "Jaws", but as usual with these creature movies it barely gets any close up action and, when it does its still a huge let down.
A piss ant little human diving into the Pacific Ocean with an harpoon gun to take out the sea monster is a scenario only Hollywood and the original author could come up with, me thinks they should have put 3 or 4 Piranhas in a swimming pool and given the Movie Director a knitting needle to kill them with, I'm sure he would have started to fill his underwear at the thought of that and, most probably he would have come up with something a lot better than that load of bollocks that was offered up.
The actors and actresses played their parts alright but it still wasn't enough to give this film any more of my time ever again.

I didn't think this film was that great, far from it, it would pass a couple of hours babysitting a couple of very young rowdy kiddies, but that's it. For an adult to pay money at the cinema to watch this mediocre comedy fantasy film you'd have to be as thick as a brick with an IQ of less than 60 to enjoy this film.
The cliches were strong with this film and, to top that off, the baddies, those same old baddies that had come before this film could have been picked from any celluloid film of 40 years ago and just dumped into this one to make the numbers up.
With that in mind, I'm going to give it a Parent Rating instead of a movie rating, it'll keep the kids glued to the TV screen for a couple of hours and that's probably what this film will be bought for, sleep tight Mom zzzzzzzzzz.
Parent Rating 6.5\10.

We were blown away by this 2018 movie. There was some complaint about the inaccurate inclusion of black GI's in a combat unit at this time but back up the bus:- there were probably no zombies around in occupied Europe either! This was how they justified it in the Special Features and it's fine by me - what a mind boggling feast it was (and I don't just mean for the zombies). The opening Airborne drop was the best thing I've ever seen - and that includes Private Ryan

A masterpiece, surprisingly not many seem to know it. Visuals and colours, the scenery, camera work, Monica Bellucci's and the young boy's acting, and the magic done by Ennio Morricone all together form a dream: sweet, bitter, lovely, cruel - and very true.

L'été meurtrier / One Deadly Summer / Ein mörderischer Sommer
Very French in its atmosphere, mediterranean mixture of relaxation, erotic tension and melancholy. The story is wicked and has a shocking dramatic twist like only few films have. This is not a teenager's wet dream movie of a hottie with no textiles on - its a psychothriller, and you can discover a depth in this term that before maybe had escaped your attention. And it ends brutally and nasty and tragic. Its title is no error.
I saw it in a big movie hall that no more exists, the very big Royal Palast Kino 1 in (West-) Berlin (cant tell you how much I miss that one), it had for many years the biggest screen in the world which was build just for the panoramic picture size they shot Lawrence of Arabia in. And I was the only one in the whole huge hall on that day! That was so cool. In mid-week, and first show, so very early afternoon.
Superb movie, very atmospheric. Not for overly prude viewers, though. :03:

The trailer for this movie I cannot post in this forum since it shows quite some skin, you cna find it on youtube under "Un amour de jeunesse " or "Goodby First Love" or "Eine Jugendliebe".
Its a French movie and its quite artificially composed - and composed it is to the extreme. Every sentence spoken, every word used, every gesture, every event, the whole flow of scenes is relevant just liked they are set and used. Heck, even the words not spoken, what is not said, is relevant. I watched this film three times in a row, and later two more times before I felt I found no more new perceptions in it.
The film tells how we find our first love in life, the excitement and arousal and the confusion, the ups and downs, and I am sure that most of us have experienced what then happens: over time we find that this first in tense love and yearning still is not what has the substance to last for a life, has not what it needs to survive the challenges of practical life, the differences between us and the other. We change, we move out, life changes around us. And still, many years later, like in this film, we may meet the other again - and all of a sudden we may bee helpless again as if we were on the first day again, a power of memories and hidden promises that keep power over us and render us helpless. How can something to which we are so helpless even years later nevertheless not be what lasts for a life? And so we inevitably grow a bit older again, anmd change again, slide into a new chapter of our life, a new love, and then, if we are lucky, the old fate that bound us na dhad us so helpless in it sface suddnely slides off our skin all naturally and by itself and gently, and we leave it behind and do not even realise it is not there anymore, like this film fantastically puts right this in pictures in the very end. I would not call this film the most entertaining one, its quite intellectual - but still it hits you right in the bottom of your heart if you allow yourself to be open, and you know that what this film says simply is the truth and a basic truth of our life it is. I recognised somehting in this film that is hard to put in words. I was very shaken at the end, but in a positive way, although that sounds absurd. I saw he endscreens and listend to the music and thoght: yes, this is true, andn right this way it is meant.
The ending went deeply under my skin. So natural. So elegant. So smooth. So unnoticed. And like so much in life: so unexpected.
This is how a film about adolescence and coming of age should be.
Skin warning for the prude ones amongst you! I do not mind nakedness if it serves a natural or necessary purpose for the story in a film. What I do not like is nakedness that is just added to boost the ticket sales and merely puts its actors on display. The film has quite some scenes, but be honest: at 16, 18, 20 years sex was one of the things most of us have thouzht most about, right? Nakedness or not, I storngly recommend this movie, I think its really great. Cannes and Sundance festivals seemed to agree: they had it on their lists.

These two movies belong together, in the posted sequence. They are true gems of film making.
Pure beauty, rapture.
The end of the second though sends tears to my eyes and a lumb to my throat, still so after all these years. But that is a good: it seems there is still sensitivity in my angry Self.
Only rarely gets literature transformed into film this artistically and fantastically. I know both books, too.
You want to see these movies in French and with subtitles. Really, you want that. Usually I prefer German dub, but not here. In this case, the sound of the French language complements the beauty of the images.

Well, Well, Well, where the hell do I start with this movie, I know, we'll start with the cliche moments, yeah, yeah, I know, they're in all movies these days, but this movie had them coming out of the bleeding woodwork. I actually thought that the cliches were going to kill the Heroine at one point but she survived them all, well, right until the last one smacked her in the kisser with a little pink wave to boot, aaaaaw, what a great cliche ending scene, it must have taken them a billionth of a second to come up with that bollocks.
As for the rest of the film, the choreography was akin to a six week induction course into how not to do realistic movie fight scenes, it was a bleeding shambolic performance by all of those involved and this movie deserved much better than the $50 they must have spent on it.
I'm not blaming the actors for it, that's the job of the choreographer to make the actors look as if they'd done this a thousand times or more, oh well, maybe next time eh.
This movie could have been done much better but, for all that was wrong with it, it was still a decent movie to watch, if only some creativity had been exercised it would have been given a far higher rating than I gave it, it was such a shame that this version was released instead of a more creative version, damn.

If you're going to do a movie that includes death, violence and a bit of comedy then this film is how you do it, Bruce Willis exiting that police vehicle scene was a touch of class camera work, would I watch it again?, you betcha I would and that's why its going to get an above average rating.

Well, well, well, what can I say about this load of bleeding junk, an overdose of CGI does not turn a pigs ear into a silk purse James Cameron, it might look great to start with but, and that's a big But, after half an hour of watching this garbage I became immune to what I was seeing. Once again a blockbuster movie had a rubbish plot and it didn't have an original idea throughout the whole movie either. It had almost half a billion dollars spent on it and had less than ten bucks spent on the actual plot, in fact there wasn't even a plot worth talking about, it was kill Jake Tully from start to finish with a load of bollocks in between. How many times have I seen that plot line?.
What!, who's Jake Tully you ask?, Oh, come on guys you know who he bleeding was right?, for those who have forgotten, he was the crippled marine who ended up bedding Zoe Saldana in the first movie, got it, great let's move on quickly.
Yes, Avatar the first film got an impressive 6.5 out of 10, not because it was a good film but, because the idea of the film had an half decent plot about it. That could also have been because I had the Flu that weekend so I probably was mentally incapacitated at the time. I haven't said much about this film because it was boring me to death and there wasn't anything innovative to talk about, but as I was going to do a review of it later I had to see it all the way to the end, bloody hell, if I had to go through the most painful death that anyone has ever had it would have been more entertaining than this load of bollocks I've just seen.
I have to give it a rating and it's a bang average one too,
Film Rating 4.5 out of 10.
Have you been living under a rock Markus?

The plot's got a lot of holes, but it's a movie you can get your teeth into.

From the director who made "Malena". The directors cut (almost 3 instead of 1.5 hours). Italian original sound with English subtitles. Full movie. Winner of 1990's Oscar "Foreign language film".
Back then the Oscars at least sometimes had some relevance. Today I would feel offended if getting an Oscar, and would throw it back at them, yelling rude words.

I red the book, not as great as the original triology, but interesting and good enough to connect it to the brand. On this fifth (!) movie however, I am not certain, too many things in the first movies were done too good and the cast was too great as if that can easily be repeated. Here is hope it is at least like with the book: at least good enough to connect to the brand.

From he trailer I must say I cannot connect the shown cast to the figures I imagined when reading the book. What a great difference to the first movie where every role, even small ones, was casted perfectly, not to mention the main figures. They had a dream cast, and the actors enjoyed their time on the set and played with bravour.

I recently watched the first part of Dune again, and this time liked it better. What I see as weaknesses in the film indeed are caused by the super-pedantic detail-obsessed translation of the book into the film and thus the inclusion of the weaknesses of the book as well. Frank Herbert may have had stories to tell, but a great literary man he was not, his style was adequate in most of his later novels, economic and unoriginal, no verbal art. I know all six Dune novels (like practically all of his novels, some are good, some are not so much good), red them all six at least twice, the first three books even four and five times (and the first even in English). My favourite novel by him ironically is one of his most unknown: The Santaroga Barrier, it is so wonderfully nostalgic. I love the mood in that, and its modest story.

Eradication.
When an unknown disease wipes out most of the world’s population, a man with unique blood is isolated for study. Fearing for his wife’s safety, he breaks his quarantine – into a world overrun by monstrous Infected and a shadowy agency hunting them down.

What a load of bleeding junk this film is, the lighting was as bad inside the house as well as the outside, it never showed any proper daylight as it was just showing the same light 10 to 20 minutes before the sun went down, poor, poor, bleeding poor. As for answers, there was virtually none, 42 minutes in and I knew as much now as I did in the first two minutes, WTF, I'd had enough of this bollocks, good riddance and **** off.
Someone Else's Review
“Eradication” is another of those post-apocalyptic movies in which an unknown virus has wiped out most of humanity and society has collapsed.
The film, shot in the scenic Adirondack Mountains, centers on David (Henry Aspinwall, who cowrote the movie with director Daniel Byers). David, an asymptomatic carrier of the disease, has lived in isolation for two years. His only contact is with his wife, Sam (Anita Abdinezhad), a scientist studying his blood in search of a cure.
David’s life is one of routine and tedium. He is told never to venture outside after dark. He must deliver blood samples every day to a specific site where he finds food cans.
He also seems to be constantly under surveillance by drones.
The monotony of his life causes him to hallucinate at times. He has several timers that dictate when he performs his daily functions, including communicating with Sam via computer. (One aspect that is never explained is how his computer continues to work when electricity is no longer available.)
Like many movies in this growing genre, the cause of the outbreak is never explained. But we have seen the symptoms before; Those infected turn zombie-like, crave blood and attack uninfected people.
After a while, David — having not heard from Sam for a while — breaks protocol and ventures outside.
What he finds upends his tightly-controlled world.
Much of “Eradication” is left unexplained. Who are the people — and what government agency do they work for? who is controlling the drones? Why does David seem to be the only asymptomatic individual?
Answers for these questions are not forthcoming, which dilutes the movie’s impact.
Byers does create tension and builds suspense, but “Eradication” needed to be fleshed out a little more. We are left with too many questions to ponder and no real satisfactory conclusion.
“Eradication” is no better nor worse than any of the other pandemic-related features shot and released since COVID-19 changed our lives.
At 87 minutes, it at least holds your attention.
