"Fail Safe" is one hell of a movie. 5 star 10/10 etc etc. Superlative viewing.

^ It is saying video unavailable. I saw a documentary on the Red Tail Squadron on the History Channel. It was a great documentary and the Pilots of the Red Tail squadron, only in recent years, was finally given the recognition they so richly deserved. The Tuskegee Airmen saved and protected a lot of bomber crews and were widely requested by bomber crews for escort duties.

At nearly 3 hours long this 1943 movie has a lot in it. I saw it once many years ago and was impressed then, and "bumping into it" again on Youtube recently I'm impressed again. :up:

I have a movie or a serie question.

Yesterday(it's past midnight here) I saw half of an episode of North & South.

Civilians was well dressed sitting in their carriage or standing on their feet. Well as the battle went on it became chaos and they had to flee.

This sequence made me remember a similar thing in another movie or was it in a serie.

It was near some big farmhouse-People was well dressed and was eating good food it was like they was waiting the start of the Superbowl.

Even here it became very chaotic. I seem to remember a funny scene where a cannonball hit the house and a bed with someones Grandma is flying and land somewhere on the field.

I try to recall the name of this movie or serie.

"Love Letters" 1999 starring Laura Linney and Steven Weber.

This is a very powerful emotional movie about loss.

Made on a relatively small budget, for tv.

No spoilers required.......2 kids grow up and as they go through life they exchange notes, letters, etc. They have different paths. He becomes a high profile conservative politician, she becomes a famous, troubled leftist artist.

They marry ( other people - not each other ). They have an affair.......she dies.

He's saved every note and letter they exchanged and taken time off to read them.....remembering their past. And as he reads them she's there in spirit reading them together.....:wah:

Many flashbacks as they relive their love.......

For those suffering from spousal loss I highly recommend it. For those yet to go through it...I say bookmark the movie link and watch it....it will help you immensely.

I distinctly remember thinking as I was watching it for the first time.." Is this a vision of the future???"

It's a bit of a "self indulgence" but being nearly 40 years old you could say it's got historical value.

If you "know" The Clash, it's very predictable. But it's also very atmospheric and "of it's times".

In the small town where I grew up in the 50s and 60s there's were 2 cinemas, the "Empire" and the other one colloquially called "The Flea Pit":) . "The Flea Pit" was closed down by the Health Authorities....so there was only the "Empire" left. The "Empire" burnt down years later....insurance job maybe. :hmmm:

We never got any of the big budget movies, we got......:o German Westerns ( very corny and downright embarrasing :oops: ), Hong Kong Supernatural movies - very much WTH/WTF :o , and Italian Spy movies which were GREAT, very over the top and funny, and needless to say beautiful women too :yep: .

The "Phil Mato" movies are very much a tribute to those flicks.

Talented too. She lobbied sooo hard to be Catwoman in the 2nd Batman movie but the role was given to Michelle Pfeiffer, bummer. But the movie bombed and sucked big time IMHO. Serves 'em right :up:

I love "Dune" it's a very good attempt to bring Frank Herbert's Classic to the big screen. Lots of great actors, great atmospheric music, special effects.

It went over the head of a lot of people who weren't really Dune fans I guess.

Never mind......good to see Francesca Annis flashing the camera :)

Sean Young was GORGEOUS in "Bladerunner" too.

Halle Berry was purrfectly cast as the lead in this film.

John Wayne makes a fine "Foreign Devil" in this sumptuous film from not too long after WW2.

Local tradition says the love story was true and she died of a broken heart, whereas historians say "Nah BS, it never happened".

I've always found "historians" to be boring killjoys, so I'm going with the locals on this one. :)
