I've made some enquiries on another forum regarding the film title you're seeking. So far they've returned one good answer: Bend of the River (1952). There's a quote that goes like this:

Thanks for posting this. I'm a big fan of the early Dune books and "the" 1984 movie. The reworked/redux version is great too.

The Cover Artwork by Bruce Pennington? of the early Dune books is just gorgeous. But apparently "The Dune Encylopedia" is considered "heresy" by the later "purists" that have just discovered "Dune". Long live the Heresy.

The Covid pandemic may be making the movie theater experience go the way of the bookstores and record stores; now that the film studios and media conglomerates have decided to cut out the middleman and turn to their proprietary, paid streaming services as the principal means of releasing films going forward, the ability of even the major theater chains, much less the small, independent "mom & pop" venues are feeling the pinch and are beginning to fall by the wayside; it was announced today in Los Angeles that Pacific Theaters, a chain of over 300 screens, has decide not to reopen after the pandemic and will permanently close all their theaters; mind you, this is very major since Los Angeles is the central hub of the US motion picture business and the closure of such a major chain is a bellwether of probable similar actions by other large chains...

One of the casualties of Pacific's decision may be the loss of a true landmark Hollywood theater, the Cinerama Dome, a few block from here; it is a distinctive, huge concrete geodesic dome, the only one of its kind in the world, built in the early 60s and originally designed for the exhibition of Cinerama movies, a three-projectors-at-the same-time (with each projector covering a third of the area a huge screen) forerunner to formats like IMAX; it has state of the art sound systems (upgraded over the decades to keep pace with new audio tech) and a very, very wide 86 foot (approx. 26.22 meters) curved screen...

The best single memory I have of the Dome have been seeing that great epic classic Lawrence of Arabia on that monster screen with crystal clear full stereo sound in a fully restored 70mm print; you have seen that film until you've seen it on a really big screen with really great sound...

I still fondly remember the childhood Saturday double features at the neighborhood cine in San Francisco, but that theater is long, long gone, as are many others in the US; I also remember family movie theater double feature nights as a later youth, but home video spelled the demise of a great may of those old theaters, too, as well as drive-in theaters (although, I seem to recall we teenagers didn't really look at the movies...); now, streaming services run by giant media conglomerates eager to maximize monetization are on th cusp of sending what remains of the movie-going experice to the land of "Rememner When...?..."...

Hm. Somehow I am not turned on. Cant say why. Maybe the looks of the protagonists shown, and their weak voices. Just do not link up to how I imagine them by the book (which I have red several times, all six). Also the soundtrack, Pink Floyd, irritates me.

I will watch it, of course, though not necessarily in a cinema these times.

I have respect for the director, his second Blade Runner movie passed my extremely critical and pedantic judgement easily, and two of his earlier movies I also hold in high respect, went under my skin. But this trailer - it just does not catch me.

BTW, Avatar planned for release in Decembre 2022. Spectacle time, nothing less I expect!

And Bernhard Wicki was of course one of the best directors of the 20ieth century..

Two boats is sailing towards each other both captain is standing on the bridge giving honour to each other..then these two ships collide and these two captains keep on giving honour until the both ships have sunk and only their hats can be seen floating.

I know the movie was in colour I guess it must be from the 60's.

It was an American movie and the ships were civilians I think they were Yachts of some kind. Remember these two captain standing on outside the bridge giving honour while their yacht is sinking. They do not move.

I believe it was a kind of comedy.
