Not sure if this has been posted yet. But ( if you don't put your psychoanalyst hat on )* it's a great film. Quite exciting in the battle sequences. Good, fun characters.

This is a question about a movie from the 80's or somewhere around that time.

My sister asked me if I could remember a film from that time era.

It have been a nuclear war, you don't see any nuke explode(that is what she think). The movie follow people in a little town who start to get ill/sick from the radiation and a woman had to buried her children.

She says or think it is an American movie.

Nothing comes to my mind, there came lots of anti-war/nuclear war movie during the 80's.

Edit: She found the movie herself it was The Testament from 1983.

I just finished watching a Russian movie from 2017 called Salyut 7, kind of a cross between Gravity and Apollo 13. It's pretty decent, and has some really well executed space sequences, although there's some pretty obvious made up BS near the end that kinds of drags it down a little bit.

The first "Perry Rhodan" movie. Made in the mid 1960s it's quite dated now and diverges quite a bit from the first Perry Rhodan novel on which it's based. But given it's age it's not bad. It helps if you're a fan of the books - over 3000 volumes ( a new one every week since the 1960s ).:)

Saw the latest Star Wars (The Last Jedi) on disc now. Terrible. Story-telling and narration never was a strength of the Star Wars franchise, but here the bad reaches new heights. The general standardised infantility scale also has been added a new value for defining the upper limit.

The Frau dragged me to the Avengers: Infinite Move Length today. Over 2.5 hours of CGI so it that's your thing you will love the movie.

Fortunately we were able to see it in a theater with reclining seats. Unfortunately, once again, the theater had the sound cranked up so high that sleeping was not easy.

Just like with that Comic Civil War movie, I don't understand how a director can make fight scenes boring. But I guess when most of your budget is spent on CGI and paying famous actors their fees, there is not a lot left over.

But because of the CGI, it will be a blockbuster.

I too have just seen The Last Jedi and after the mess of the last one i had no high hopes what so ever. So the nose dive was not as bad knowing this would be CGI and little on the story line.

Why they had to make it another 30 minutes longer so they could drag out please Luke we need you crap was a wast of time. After he tosses away the light saber whats her name should had said..Screw you I'm out of here.

Disney has done what i never believed possible after parts 1-3 wrecked the saga. They clearly felt fit to take a sledge hammer to the wreck and smash it up more.

And all the time I had the overwhelming feeling they were just recylcing the storyline and details from part V and VI. Like Scott's Prometheus was just a remake of the first Alien from 79.

Screenplay writers seem to have run out of own new ideas. Is this now Francis Fukuyama's "end of story"?

Saw Beirut a few days back and quite like it. Good story, good acting, nice plot with the normal situations of "ah, that guy is the b..." and a good photography also. Only nick pick for me was during the early 70s, the ray bans aviators didn't had the name in the lens.

First trailer for submarine thriller Kursk starring Matthias Schoenaerts and Colin Firth

“It is the first major Russian Navy exercise since the end of the Soviet Union, but the K-141 Kursk is deemed unsinkable and its crew recognized as the best in the Northern Fleet. Among that crew is Captain-Lieutenant Mikhail Kalekov (Schoenaerts), a devoted naval officer with a loving wife (Seydoux), a child, and another on the way. He and his crew board the Kursk and descend into the Barents Sea with a sense of optimism and fraternity. Then come the explosions. Many lives are lost instantly, but Mikhail and others are safe in one of the sealed rear compartments. They have air and food to last until they are rescued, but when will help arrive? Once the sub’s seismic activity is detected, Britain, France, and Norway offer their assistance, but Russia insists it has the situation under control. Time is of the essence, but time keeps passing.”

Saw First Man tonight. It was decent, but I would have liked it a lot better if the cinematography, lighting, and editing weren't so obnoxious for most of the movie. Great performances, but the superhypercharged-electrific space sequences drove me up a wall. Was relieved when they landed on the Moon, and we finally got a scene that was properly lit and didn't look like it was being shot by someone having a seizure.

W.C.Fields plays a corrupt President of a backward country who comes up with a scheme to replenish his....er ...his country's coffers.

It was made in 1932 but the humour's still there, and you can see where a lot of modern filmakers got their ideas from.

Aliens- Combat Drop Alternate Version

Published on 23 Jan 2012
This is a re-edited version of the combat drop sequence from Aliens, using an unused track from composer James Horner's score for the film. The alternate music begins around 2:30. In order to make the music fit, I had to cut out Hudson's rant about superior firepower, but everything else is the same.

It's a clever reworking of the Pizarro "story". I won't give too much away, but Pizarro has a lot of doubts and strongly identifies with his prisoner.

Mortal Engines is being considered as possibly the biggest box office flop of the year by the biz here in Hollywood; the usual rule of thumb is a film has to sell at least twice its cost in the box office just to break even; hovering at an estimated total cost (production, marketing, etc.) of about USD $125,000,000, the film would have to generate at least USD $250,000,000 to be profitable by Hollywood accounting standards. with only USD $7,559,850 in US box office and $34,700,000 in foreign sales, it has a very long way to go to be solvent. To be honest, I don't see why the film did so poorly, other than an insufficient and/or unfocused marketing effort...

This bloke's name came up when I was talking to a facebook pal earlier... he was actually a Cypriot, which I never knew. I always assumed he was Egyptian

He was in loads of movies and TV shows when I was a kid, usually playing the villain. Here he is baddie priest Mehemet Bey in Hammer's "The Mummy"

Star Trek 4 cancelled. Always been a big fan of the original and follow on series but the Abram's reboot in 2009 was done in such a stupid way that I had zero interest in watching any more of his renditions. I liked the cast selections well enough that at first I thought it would be great but for the most part it was ruined with some really ridiculous scenes. I never watched the 2nd or 3rd ones until this weekend and they just confirmed my bad feelings so I wasn't surprised to see the next one effectively cancelled.

I watched IO in its entirety the day it released. I was not impressed. Definitely one of those films who's trailer is better than the finished product.

I found the story to be very uninteresting and not captivating. Dialogue was drawn out and lacked depth. Characters were underdeveloped.

As solitary post cataclysmic films go, this one fails to solidify its place in the genre IMHO

This fan made film is excellent! Disney should take notes and drop all the SJW nonsense in their films and get back to the real story! Disney tried to steal this fan made film and claim it as their own on YouTube. After a HUGE outcry from supporters Disney gave the film back to the community in like a day of having it banned for a copyright claim. But this is truly awesome! Not sure if you've seen it yet? It's short (16 min. Well, 13mins of actual movie) but worth the watch.

(I use this ´cause it's movie related)

Some thoughts about historical movies.

As mentioned earlier in this thread I have seen the movie The Darkest hour.

I saw it a second time this afternoon.

In almost every scene I get, what I call, memory pop-ups from all that I have read about WWII, England and W. Churchill
(I know for the sake of the dramatization they have added little extra to the story)

Will a person with no knowledge or interest in history/military history see the movie like those who has ?

Or for the drama itself ?

(please erase if not fitted)

A Japanese film from 1973. Available on DVD with English subtitles. But try as I could I couldn't find a trailer with subtitles. Never mind. The story's pretty easy to follow.

A young guy gets conscripted into the navy. He's not happy. He doesn't fit in and has trouble with discipline. He rebels against authority, gets into trouble, and gets sent to the punishment unit.

I can not say I'm surprised as Ridley has hashed up big time, I will just let 'Prometheus' slip by on the grounds that 'Alien Covenant' was bloody awful film and I rather the whole thing now die. Only ALIEN and ALIENS remain great films and even 'ALIEN 3' Directors cut version a modest film should have ended the story there if you want a sad ending, good ending end on 'ALIENS'.

This is a great film to watch and escape the world for 90mins. Great actors/casting, subtle humour, and a real feel good vibe throughout.

OooooooOoooooo! I'll take pretty much anything at this point. I love older movies anyways. I'll watch any sub movie that doesn't have a pink or yellow submarine in it!

Speaking of "Hunter Killer" I felt old realizing the "hero" boat was not a 688i. When did the fugly duckling Seawolf get the push? LOL! God what an ugly boat!

Speaking of sub movies, I must have been almost 20 before I realized every sub on Earth doesn't have a man named "Cob", it's short hand for Chief of the Boat. Not my proudest moment.....

This is one fine movie, funny with a great cast.

A local celebrity down here died from cancer a few years ago ( refused chemo , and accepted his lot ), and when he was asked by the press how he was spending his last days here on earth, he said " staying up late, drinking cups of tea, eating lots of chocolate biscuits and watching Doris Day movies, and loving it ".

I'm sure if she'd known she would've been very happy that someone ( a fellow thespian ) would spend their last days watching her films.

:yep:

"Wafner, now mutated and possessing superhuman strength and resilience, overpowers Ford and impales him on a meat hook. Wafner reveals that the serum was made by using the villagers' bodies to distill the ancient power of the black tar, which had been running under the village for centuries. The aim was to create immortal and invincible soldiers to serve the Reich."

Would be interesting to see this.. not for the Hollywood style propaganda copied and doubtlessly turned around by 180 degrees, but for the flying scenes. All CGI and overblown, but.. :hmmm:

At a minimum, there are three sides to every war

What our side believes

What their side believes

What really happens.

Cool! I need to see that one, and so do my friends. A few years ago I read a book by an author who had been a North Vietnamese soldier, and was surprised to see that his experiences weren't so different from ours. They even had their own anti-war movement.
