Playing the eastern british coastal mission with not a single ctd . Game loads fine . I have no problems playing .
Got two hits on First Polish freighter both duds, a cobbled together "plan B" got me a miss. I monitored the long distance warship contact while I leisurely
surfaced and shelled the freighter until it sank. I can't help but wonder as the campaign goes on "Will they all be duds" At what point do I decide I have a buggy game, or is the Fatherland letting me down.

Can be 50% of fired torp, depending speed (the slowest the better chance) and what kind of impact choosen.
Impact should be closest to 90° AOB, while magnetic is mainly depending of sea roughness.
But sometime even in calm sea magnetics are defecting.
Usually i fire one magnetic and one impact setted, both on different speed to increase the chances.
So far, not that bad results.
Nevertheless, i noticed more impact setting defecting...
So happy to hear game not working is normal. I just attacked again , 4000 meters rough sea acute bow angle, I swear they were gonna hit..... three preemies all blew up at about 2000 m . The sea was choppy and I had them all set on high speed with magnetic detonators (due to the angle). Is there a tactics thread to go along with the new realistic torpedoes? Is there a way to get one tangled up in their propeller, or can we ram em, Deck gun works. I'm gonna take your advice and get up close on a calm day
Anyway, if all patches torpedoes in generic patcher are activated, and you picked up the FX Update torpedoes (modified for torpedoes patches) in MODS folder of generic patcher (and activated last in your list), all should be fine.
Try torpedo slow speed, and see result!

Just fired another eight or nine, none exploded, one bounced off the target as a dud and then exploded, and another bounced off the target then went around and hit it again, no boom. I see now I made an error. the fx update torpedoes download link was dead and read something like update is included in patcher, That means its this one right here.. and is not as I understood it to be included in one of the many patches. Thank you for your help Im off to fix this thing again.

disable all torpedo patches and see if work ....

OK so I uninstalled everything then put it all back together. Same issue occurs. If I sink a ship and check my captain's log it will freeze. I have read around for a good couple of hours and have not found an answer. I have seen others with a similar problem but it didn't seem like their problems were solved. Any help would be appreciated. And if I need to deactivate any mods to get this thing working could someone give me an idea of which one could be causing the issue so I could deactivate only that one? Thanks again guys.
The last thing the Debug thing says is "SH_ServerOrbitProtocol.cpp (111) :failed to read packet from client".

If you desable all torpedoes patches, all torpedoes will work for sure :haha:
The historical point of this stuff, is to get many torpedoes failure, as it was in RL...getting 50% failure seems accurate.
Perso, i get less (around 30%) but will not complain :D

The game process can tend to use up to 2 GB
With certain mods the game texture memory can exceed 1.7 GB
Ofcourse caching ontop of this from real OS's like windows 7 and 8 (xp doesnt support smart caching) means you can effectively end up with all the files in ram as cache my system currently has 13 GB cached with SH5 running

I would suggest usinf a smaller mod list until you get your game working:yep:

Did you unzip a NEW copy of the mod enabler, that can make a big difference. Don't worry too much about the mods, That's the point of the mod list, to give you a list that will be stable. Focus on the install, that was/is the source of all my problems. It took me a million years to get the install good enough to see a stable game and realize how well this game can be made to work. someone needs to create an "order of operations". I don't feel qualified yet but I'm working on it.

As you see the pictures, the rectangle trail has been there with idling ships and our sub. Is there a way to fix or disable the trail mod?
Second:
The ship markers doesn't show up on the map when in visual contact and I believed that it caused by the generic patcher.

I can't even intercept the convoy from the radio report because it doesn't show me the convoy's course. It just showed the direction where they are heading, like "course: ENE" or "course: NW"
Does it only work with Real Navigation mod?

I started the game after spending a multiple hours of installing Sober's Mega mod, and setting it up. I launched the game and everything was perfect, and beautiful; however, for some reason it froze up and I had to quit. I try to play the game again and i get a CTD every time I go to get the mission briefing. I tried to start a new campaign to remedy the problem to no luck.
Computer specs if they are relevant:
ASUS G55VW
Intel Core i7
NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 660M * 2gb
8GB RAM
Windows 7
Any help to solve this would be wonderful. I love the game, and love the mega mod so far.

It has someting to do with the Mega Mod which I apply using the sobers mep file on a fully patched fresh install of SH5.
In vanilla the game runs just fine.
I'm trying to figure out which mod is causing this. Perhaps the 'Dbgview report' is an easyer way to figure this out?
I used the latest mod pack which I downloaded from the SUBSIM BONUS MODS section. (yes I'm a SUBscriber)

If you have Render Patches enabled in the Patcher, disable them and see what's happen..

Sober's best ever waves is old mod.. this mod is already removed/deleted..

I do not follow that thread, "mega mod pack which I downloaded from the SUBSIM BONUS MODS section", it may be very outdated from Jan 2013. I am not going to download this very old mod collection. Is there a Multiple UIs with TDC or something like NewUIs_TDC listed in the folders once uncompressed? If so, look under the applications folder for dbgview?
The latest dbgview executable can be found in the download for NewUIs_TDC_Version X.X.X_ByTheDarkWraith thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166093). The download link is on post #1 about 1/3 down the page. After uncompressing the NewUIs_TDC_X.X.X._ByTheDarkWraith file, the dbgview program is in the applications folder.
Create a dbgview shortcut on your desktop? Run the dbgview program first, then start SH5 after.

I discovered SH5 few days ago and after spending 20h playing it I was disappointed and started searching on web how come game is so full of lags and discovered that true spirit of this game is in mods and dedicated guys I found on this forum. And last few days I was reading and searching for right set of mods and stuff needed to be done to game and I realized that tard like me (concerning pc) probably will never get this right and working and get it ready to play. I know that simply isn't fear to all you guys who spent so much there time doing all this mods, edits and tutorials. But I would love very much to be able to get one big file which will include everything I need and in much simpler way to implement it. I'm kind a disappointed that I just cant install game and play like rest of the games. I know I ask for too much and if this post is in wrong place remove it I just wonted to tell I would like to see that combo of mods.

I downloaded every mod by itself and import it using the MEP files. It works splendid.
De mod-pack in the Bonus mods Section is very outdated. Don't use that one. It will cause CTD.

Well I removed OH V2.2 and it works great now. So I think its safe to say the problem has something to do with OH and certain people's computers. I just thought Id share that with you guys so when you see another guy asking around for help about this like I have, you can at least tell him try removing OH.

Well I removed OH V2.2 and it works great now. So I think its safe to say the problem has something to do with OH and certain people's computers. I just thought Id share that with you guys so when you see another guy asking around for help about this like I have, you can at least tell him try removing OH.

Sink ships = freeze
open logbook = freeze
When the game freezes - press esc to comtinue
or Alt+Tab to desktop and see the error box (enable modding in docs cfg)
What UI are you using - it sounds like the issue is with clicking buttons

i don't have any problem with OH II v2.2 works fine only that missing texture for hospital ship in Memel port ...no crash no freez i use Sober mega mod list when i play with TDW's interface and my mod list when i play with magui interface .....
:hmmm: Yesterday fo first time was able to finish first 2.2 mission without any CTD...
My CTDs were happening always on nav map, TC or not TC, without cliking buttons...just pofff...back to desk top.
But again, running 1920X1080 was almost CTD free, while 2560X1440 is 80% crashing.
Running debug doesn't give any soluce. Nothing reported...
Decided to shut my AVG while running SH5, and lighten my mod list to essentials ---> no more CTD on high reso :up:
So i suppose it's coming from my end...PC not enough powerful for native reso + long mod list.
PS: thinking about it, anyway OHII Full either 2.1 or 2.2 is the mod i couldn't play SH5 without.
We always can skip some sounds mods, graphicals, or interface one...but not OH!
OH is the base for immersion, the heart of SH5! Without OH, SH5 is dead (at least for me)...
Trevally did a fantastic job with all those planes added attacking Polish boats, AI submarines surfaced AND underwater too in first mission!
Never saw heavy German cruiser attacking Polish destroyers before! Just stunning.
But nevertheless, i'm sure it takes a lot of computer ressource...

Thank you Sober for taking the time to put this mod list together.
I have played SH5 since its release and played SH3 and SH4 previously.
I run Sobers list as written and have to say it has been very stable and have had no CTD's.
My computer is a Sager 9280 laptop:
160GB SSD
12 GB ram
I7 960 Processor
GTX 285M 1G Ram
ASUS external 27" monitor

Im just posting this so others can see a glimmer of hope. I installed the light version of OH 2, now my game never freezes after sinking a ship. So if you find yourself playing and your game freeze after sinking a ship.... try using the light version.

I experienced that sometimes the game will crash after sinking a ship if you have a lifeboat mod installed.

Please try OHII full v2.2 as the only mod installed and then see if it freezes.
OHII light is not a mod I would suggest.

the same with me. I found that it has something to do with the IRAI 0.0.93 and OHII 2.2 Mod. One Mod from the two works- both crash

Ok , its not a single download .
What it is , is a list of mods i use and how i adjust settings and how things are installed and where things go and everything you need to know to get you started and start playing with my list . cheers sober out .
If you use a mod list / order other than sobers MEP file list then you will have to start a new campaign.
or played previously with a mod list other than sobers MEP file then you will have to start a new campaign.
or used an older sobers MEP file list that is diffrent to the current list then you will have to start a new campaign.
Make sure your game is patched to the official patch 1.2
If you want german language then choose custom install when installing the game and tick german language .
Only ever install the mods list on a new SH5 game installation.
In other words if you played previously then uninstall the game and the save games.
Delete any left over files in the SH5 game folder and then reinstall Sh5 .

How to start the campaign using sobers mega mod list .
Make sure you are patched to the official 1.2 version
You will have to be connected to the internets so that the UbiLauncher can update itself and have the offline mode .
Delete the save game folder from My Documents if you have a previous install .
Extract a new copy of the mod enabler to your main game folder http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3951
Double click on the jsgme_setup .
This will create the yellow jsgme emblem in your main game folder . Double click on the yellow emblem. (dont worry about a desktop shortcut) .
Place all your mods in the folder called "MODS" that was just created.
Only enable snorkels while in the Bunker (Bunker save).
Set the Uplay game launcher to play offline .
When starting a new campaign using OHII - DO NOT PLAY THE TUTORIAL - you will get a ctd . Select "Skip Tutorial" when starting.
Start the game and click on new career and then once on the campaign selection screen type in silentotto , then click on start
Choose skip the tutorial.
If you are not getting an option to skip the tutorial when starting a new career, exit the game and go to Documents\SH5\data\cfg\CareerHistory.cfg and edit the file with Notepad. Change the following line:
HasCompletedTutorial=false
with
HasCompletedTutorial=true
Start the game and click on new career and then once on the campaign selection screen type in silentotto , then click on start
Choose skip the tutorial.
While in the bunker Go back to the main screen and select Options and change your Difficulty/Graphics/Sound options.
Once in the bunker again click on the technical officer (he is standing against the wall) to enter the upgrade screen .
Choose any upgrades you can afford then exit the upgrade screen .
Click on the flotilla commander (he is standing to the right of the technical officer) and when on the briefing map click on Skip to stop the animation then choose a mission by clicking on an iron cross then click on request mission.
The Baltic Operations objective on the top left will turn orange (if chosen coastal Waters as the campaign start) .
Click on the X on the mission briefing map top right of the screen to exit out of the mission briefing map .
Click on the flotilla commander again and choose Lets start the new patrol.

When the mod enabler is installed correctly and it has created a folder in your main game folder ,
go to the mod enabler and click on Tasks\Load mod profile .
Search and click on the MEP file you just extracted . This will be a copy of this mod list that the mod
enabler is trying to find . Keep downloading and placing the mods into your mod enabler that it says it is missing
until all the mods are in the mod enabler (do not extract the mods directly to the mod enabler , instead extract them to a safe place in my documents etc . Then look for the folder before the data folder and place that in the mod enabler folder called MODS). Then click on Tasks\Load mod profile and click on the MEP file and the mod
enabler will auto load all the mods in the correct order for you .

OK I did as you asked and it does work. I wonder what else could be doing it? Ill keep at it and let you guys know if I find anything. And any suggestions would be great. Also just so I'm clear, how do you enable modding in docs cfg?
I just re-installed SH5 last night (From the CD) and patched to 1.2. I dl'd each one of themods individually so I could get their respective updated files and loaded them all up (via the mod enabler). Not sure what to say other than........something must be wrong because it looks horrible.
Here are a few issues I've noticed:
1. All of the colors look super bright and over saturated.
2. Viewing the sub underwater shows a constant blurred texture (sort of like the effect when you pass from underwater to above the water....that blurry look).
3. While underwater, the conning tower seems to leave a blocky looking wake with no texture effect other than a solid lighter shade of blue.
4. Viewing the sub from above the surface while the sub is underwater yields a jittery/jumpy look to the underwater submarine.
5. Shadows flickering on the conning tower crew.
6. The bow wake seems to shoot up at a sharp angle occasionally.
I'm not sure what is going on. I followed the installed guide very miticulously. I double checked each file before using the mod enabler to make sure the data folder structure was intact as well. I really have no idea what is going on, but it doesn't really look anything like the screenshots people are posting.
Any ideas here, folks?

Guys, I have a couple of questions regarding to Equipment_Upgrades_Fix_v1_4_byTheBeast:
1. Manual edit Menu.txt for 10.5 cm Deck Gun - as far as I understand it will remove 8.8 cm gun with 10.5 cm?
2. If the answer on Q1 is Yes, when should I change menu.txt file - before installing this mod or just before the date when the 10.5 cm gun will be available?

I do not agree
Starting in Kiel (v2.0) used much more than it does now with v2.2
Sink ships = freeze
open logbook = freeze
When the game freezes - press esc to comtinue
or Alt+Tab to desktop and see the error box (enable modding in docs cfg)
What UI are you using - it sounds like the issue is with clicking buttons
Hey Trevally, I was hoping I could get some advice here. So as you know I have been having a freezing problem after I sink a ship in the very first mission. Now I removed all mods besides oh 2.2 full like you asked and it worked fine by itself. So now I'm enabling mod by mod trying to see which one causes the error. Once I find it ill post it here so others who have the same problem can find a quick answer. While I'm doing this can you think of anything else that could be causing this issue. Thanks for your time.

I removed the wake mod from the list .
The realistic underwater mod now has no visibility thru the scopes underwarer , no more cheating to see depth or where ships are on the surface .

Well Gentlemen, I have finally found the issue. At least I think. I have been testing all the mods one by one and after numerous tries I have found that SH5 Longer Repairs seems to be the issue. I don't know why, its seems odd that such a small mod would cause this problem but for me it seems to be the case. So now I disabled it and it runs fine.
I was hoping to get your thoughts on that and do you think there might be any way to fix that issue with that mod so that I can re enable it? Thanks again for your time, its been a frustrating experience getting this thing working but at least now I have learned a great deal about the modding world.

I feel like a jackass, It was never the mods... I was attacking the polish too soon. They were considered neutral at the time... stupid mistake on my part sorry for wasting your guy's time. So to end this story, If you find yourself sinking polish ships from the first mission and your game freezes, make sure their ports are not neutral green...

What is your GPU? How much memory it has? What is your CPU? How much RAM on-board?.. etc.. etc..
All of us have different game settings.. and different antilag.cfg settings.. :yep:

Hey guys, having a bit of an issue and I can't seem to find anyone else who has had it. But then again, I'm not really sure what you would search for other than something generic like underwater visual glitch (which yielded no results).
That being said, I am using the full version of Sober's most up to date mega mod. Just did a clean installation yesterday and I am using all but a couple of the mods since I am noobish. I've had the game for years, just haven't played it enough to feel comfortable using realnav and such. The other mod I'm not using is the realistic underwater FX. I figured why bother having dyn env with its cool high res stuff if I can't see it through the blurry water.
Now, when I take my free camera underwater, regardless of location, instead of seeing underwater and seeing the floor, there are yellowish white boxes, clearly glitches, everywhere on my screen until I get out from under water. It is the same situation when I look through my periscope while it's under water. I was hoping that someone might have an idea of which mod it is that is causing this glitching. I have so far tried removing the primary suspects one at a time to see if that fixes it, but no luck. As of right now, everything I have enabled for water FX kind of stuff I have used before with no issue.
I should also point out that I was having this issue before I altered the mod configuration from exactly what Sober has in his mod list. I'm just not sure if it is an individual mod or 2 or more mods conflicting with one another.
My ultimate goal was to have Sober minus the realnav and realistic underwater plus all of the goodies that dynenv brings to the table if anyone has successfully used a similar setup.
Not sure if it will help in any way but my PC specs are as follows:
G1.Guerrilla MB with an Intel i7 960 OC'd to 3.8Ghz
12 GB RAM
2 GeForce GTX 570's SLI with a GTX 460 as dedicated physx

Windowed mode off
Use the mod Shadow Improvement ModLR (use the light version and put your shadows slider in the ingame graphics option to halfway ).

I've got to say, i play sub sims since Aces of the Deep.
With this "Megamod" by Sober's the game is well enhanced. GOOD JOB :up:
But i have some suggestions:
The medals award system in Sh5 is dissapointing and a shame...
how it's possible to be awarded with 4 or 5 times with iron cross 1st class?? :rock:
And no Knight's Cross "progressions"... like get Oak leaves, then oak leaves and crossed swords, etc...
It's possible to correct this issues??
Other suggestion is to add life boats.
And it's possible to correct the type VIIB Conning tower...?
In Sh3 subs models were more accurate!

OK, thanks, I've done that. The MEP lists both files which leaves me not knowing where to find Equipment_Upgrades_Fix_v1_4_Patch_1. I can only find the (available by date) V9 file, if anyone can help.
My first missing file from the MEP list though, is sobers game loading tips V6 SH5. Searching this version yields no result, V5 appears to be the latest version.
Edit: Sjizzles chart listed on MEP is also unavailable, it has been superseded by 3 newer files.

More I found is FX update torpedoes (modified for torpedoes failure patches) is no longer available, being incorporated in the newer generic patcher- http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2060599&postcount=832

I've tinkered with and played SH5 for long enough now that I want to toy with it. What I had in mind would be experimenting with the equipment upgrades, but being an amateur as I am I can't wrestle the unlock packs to work with Sobers modlist. And I've grown so fond of how the game plays with all these mods that I can't bring myself to revert back to vanilla, this is too comfortable (and the vanilla crew is ugly).
If there is a mod compatible with this modslist that unlocks all equipment on day 1, and/or for for zero renown, I'm missing it. But if there is, please tell, I'd really appreciate it.

Just disable Equipment_Upgrades_Fix_v1_4_Patch_1 (available by date) V9 by sober and start a new campaign..
As for renown, you should/can manually edit the file Ammunition.upc and UpgradePacks.upc.. just open them using Notepad and further all is simply..

Just donated and downloaded the "complete" zip file a few days ago from the bonus mods area. when compared to the list on page 1, seems a few of the items in the zip are out of date? manually downloading a few now.
also note, i'm on fresh install, and the game did not autoupdate for some reason. had to manually find the updater in the subfolder. found this out after trying to apply patch via the generic patcher.
edit: also, does the generic patcher automatically "apply" the patches, or do i need to enable it like a mod via JSGME?
applied patch (i think, just ran the generic patcher on the exe and applied snapshot)
tried running, get 2 errors.
#open error:#data/menu/skins/german/gui/upgrade/periscope.dds
got that when first loading, gets stuck at about 33% loading, have to alt-tab to see error box then hit OK.
after some extreme loading times (on a vertex4 SSD btw). finally get into menu, start my campaign, again very long loading times (like 5+ minutes), and get another error.

I'm completely new to SH5 modding (and SH5 in general, but I have played SH3 quite extensively). Anyway, I was told that SH5 was just great with Sober's mod compilation so I figured I give it a try. However, I'm confused now. I couldn't really figure out the sequence of installing things from the first few posts. I found Singed's post on page 102 which already helped, but there's still a few things left I do not understand. Any help would be highly appreciated :)
Here's what I did so far:
- I downloaded the mod compilation from the bonus mods section
- I downloaded the Generic Patcher and Sober's .gps snapshot file
- I used JSGME and Sober's .med file to identify missing mods, downloaded them and put them into the MODS folder
Now, I have a few specific questions:
1) Do I have to unzip the mods contained within the Generic Patcher download into my MODS folder? I guess so, since the torpedo patches listed in Sober's mod list have to be present for activation with JSGME, right? I found several tutorials on the Generic Patcher, but they seemed to apply to different versions (some had to be activated using JSGME, the newer ones apparently not), and I am not quite sure I understand how the current version has to be used.
2) When exactly do I activate the mods in JSGME using Sober's .med file? Do I have to skip the tutorial and create a save game in the bunker first for this snorkel mod to work?
3) When do I use the generic patcher? Prior to mod activation in JSGME?
4) The mod "Sjizzle's - Charts for NewUIs TDC ByTheDarkWraith 27.05.2013" as per the OP does not exist anymore. Can I just use the newer version (part 1 through 3) from the respective thread and insert the new version's folder names into the .med file using notepad?

I'm noticing the game crashing a lot while in the ship museum, seemingly at random.
It crashed once while browsing through the German ships, and I reached the TypeII sub, after the hospital ship. After that, when I went straight for the TypeII, it loaded it just fine.
Following this, after I had completed the mission outside Poland, and had headed to Kiel, it keeps crashing when I get close to the canal opening. I've tried approaching at different time scales, as low as x8, but it keeps crashing once I get just close enough to find a gathering of ships.
Could this be a ship that's failing to load, and if so, which mod is responsible?

I had issues with using your premade load order, as removing some mods after it was finished caused problems with the game. But otherwise I have followed the load order in the first post to the letter.
EDIT: Oh dear, a snippet of the processor line gt cut off in my haste. It says 1900 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s), where it cut off.

I'm using 4-core 2.4 GHz overclocked to 2.8 GHz.. but it's really minimum that game needed :hmmm:

I can't help that, though. Changing the processor on a laptop is pretty difficult, moreso on one where the graphics card and processor are joined together.
To work around that, which mods would you suggest I skip, to lighten the load?
EDIT: Maybe I should mention, I'm using the Steam version, so I haven't fiddled with the patches any.

I use OPEN hoRIZONS II_Full v2.2, I've followed the list in the first post fairly closely, only skipping a scant few mods that I couldn't find, or decided against because of reasons.
I'll try skipping AI_Sub_Crew this time and see if it helps, thank you.

Don't know about Sjizzle's mods but my game load hangs when using both Sober's generic patcher restore list v127 with the v128 patcher, and the modification of his MEP below. The MEP list loads ok alone, as do the generic patcher modified files but together, they hang. There is a conflict here with periscope.dds from the beast's upgrades 1.4 attached.

Maybe I'll have to re-boot for that to have an effect. What did make a slight visual difference without doing so, is disenabling the two rendering patches (haven't yet narrowed it down to 1 or the other). That allowed the red loading bar to continue from where it had stuck at about 1/3, right to the end before hanging. In both cases, I found I could continue the load by pressing Esc. Other error messages also appeared and I got past them the same way.

Sorry about the pic. It's just a quick one.
My nav map now has this big circular compass on it, and I have lost all TDW s map functions. The briefing map is also whacked. I can't skip the briefing or move the map, or select missions.
What did I do wrong. Everything was fine a day ago, I just switched to your new mep and this happened.

1. My WO reports me visual contact at a distance of 16 km. It seems ok for me in day time, but yesterday he reported contact when it was night. Is it me or you also have the same?
2. Can we modify values for distance in daytime and in the night separately? I mean can we set different numbers to reflect better ability of my crew to spot ships when it's sunny rather when it's dark night?

Checked these figures and they totally match those in your post...well except fog factor. I have 0.75 which is even smaller than in your post, so I assume that my WO should be able to spot contacts in fog weather on shorter distances than in your example.
Anyway in my situation there was no fog. It was night and dark...and my crew spotted ship at 16 km. Have you ever had smth like this in your patrols during nighttime? As for the daytime I have no issues 'cos I think it's normal to spot ships at distances up to 20 km. But it's night and I don't think it's normal:/\\!!
P.S. I loaded historical mission where you should pass through Gibraltar (default settings:mission starts at 21.00 p.m., no fog, crew veterancy is high).

What to do now??Read the first post of OH2 thread . The problem with using silentotto is that you start off later in the war with the enemy having advanced weapons and they are better trained . You have a green crew with basic weapons .

Quit the game.. open up Documents\SH5\data\cfg\GameplaySettings.cfg using notepad..
Change line LimitedFuel= from False to True.. enjoy the rout home..
Save the game before entering bunker.. quit the game.. bring back all the changes you've done..

What is your game date?
This ship was in Vigo for some time, but was only supplying uboats for part of it. The supply is date related.
If you are within the correct date zone - the ship will act like a port and offer you the option to resupply(not repair) just as if you sailed into Kiel

It doesn't look like Bessel's spawn dates is the cause of mendesjpcrs' problem. The supply ship is where supposed, he is side by side with her, but he doesn't get the option to refit. Maybe he is too close? :hmm2:

Bessel will also have a port icon set to her. This port setting will control when refits will be allowed. (this is linked to the spawn gen as naval base type) (it is also the part the given the name Bessel in the map)

You should disable Enables game messages to be displayed in-game (FOR ADVANCED USERS!) patch in Generic Patcher..

So I just went thru and installed the mod as per the instructions on the first post minus the gamepatcher tweaks (I'm a steam heathen) and I am unable to start a game, I can reach main menu but I cannot start either the campaign nor a historical mission I get a no message CTD. My computer is more than capable of handling SH5 so I'm certain thats not the issue. Any help is greatly apprectiated

Mods don't need Generic Patcher to work.. any mods should work with or without any patches enabled.. the game itself won't work properly without Generic Patcher..

Well I was able to load and play with the all in one pack and it's included MEP file , so somewhere between then and now one of the mods is borked
got to mucking about with it, got it work after a full reinstall, cheers folks

I am using patcher version 1.0.47 and New UIs 7.5, test version 10. I have no problem stopping all engines when using the independent engine control. Be it both engines, left or right, surfaced or submerged.

I'm using the same New UIs and patcher 1.0.128. Disabling the engine controls worked. I then tracked a ship using, for the first time, the four bearings method, was intercepting for a 90 degree attack and clicked on the ship type in the scope, to identify the tanker. Instant CTD. This game is still a pig after so much unpaid work.

The latest bugs I'm getting with this mod combo-
Deck watch don't always return when ship surfaces.
Hydrophone works intermittently. When it works it also shows 'unknown' contact at 180 degrees even when all sub engines are stopped and boat is still (thanks for enabling the latter Sjizzle). When it doesn't work, sub's own motors don't register at any speed.
Any more patches need deactivating to sort these problems?

Thanks as always for your modlist. :yeah:I use quite a few of your own created mods, too. Just tried multi color mod for the first time within the last few weeks. Wow, multi color made everything pop beautifully.

So I end up with the save before base , the base save . Then I save often until I return to base again and delete as before . I also believe ctds are mostly due to not enough ram :IE you need 64 bit os , you need a powerful cpu over 3ghz , wrong mods that are not compatible with each other . I do not play over 256 TC . I have the message box drop to 1TC on any message box message .

Not sure what mine was as I lost all saves when my PC and I had a falling out.
I do think that the larger the save game = the more common the ctd.
Getting a very large save file is when your patrol is very long and/or an over use of resupply rather than end patrol.
When you end patrol (dock) your save file (patrol) goes back to standard size for the campaign and gets bigger with everything that happens in the campaign/mission.
Captain, crew and campaign info etc does also increase the save size as each campaign and then career advances

Did you experience any airplane attack in the campaign Sober? I completed Total Germany campaign in the last few days and i didn't have not an single airplane attack even when they were very close...Strange

A few AAR's from the early war have uboat commanders reporting being able to sneak literally into the midst of a convoy to hit the juicy targets, and some report having remained on the surface for a reload without detection.
I doubt it's to that point, but you never know until you try :-)

If using IRAI the AI ships have a fatigue roster so anything can happen . The best thing about SH5 is the detection circles , you can adjust the peramaters and look at the detection circles to see what is happening detection wise .

I'm getting a CTD near Danzig. Using Sobers 0800 15082013 list of mods.
I get the CTD anytime (i.e. not related to a specific action. It is not when changing TC or changing position on the boat). It might be related to when enemy ships appear. Like Santini mentioned above. I have a patched EXE using the GenPatcher.
The only strange looking row in the log is related to "G:\SH5\data\Sea\JPGunBoat01\JPGunBoat01.ait not found. Additional info disabled for unit"
I have the debug log attached.
Computer is a Windows 8 (Running sh5.exe as admin and compat with XP sp3). i7 950, 6 GB RAM etc etc.
Will try previous version of NewUI.
PS I have disabled real navigation and not using scopes (whatever that is).
PS2. No luck with 7.4.2 of NewUI either. Same crash.

Hey Matnor, my issue has persisted as well. I think there is a unit or something crashing it, that just happened to not be there for one game.
Edit: Making the approach to Danzig submerged, picked up something on the hydro
jumped to that unit on the unit cam, and it was a german destroyer and what I think was the hipper, however game CTD'd only moments after hoping the camera.
So yeah, there is something in or around the port that crashes

I everyone
I'm using sober's list mods and now i'm in Black pit Campaign.
How can i form wolfpacks?
I've got to use the TDW generic patcher?
Can't form wolfpacks without the generic Patcher?
If i do something wrong patching the game, can i broke the game?
I don't like the idea to start the game again if something fails:/\\!!
And setting the patcher, i have to enable it with JGSME?
If so, can i enable it at the bottom of sobers list?
I already read the topics that explain how use the patcher, but i don't understand what to do because i've see some variations.....:hmm2:

I'm getting a CTD near Danzig. Using Sobers 0800 15082013 list of mods.
I get the CTD anytime (i.e. not related to a specific action. It is not when changing TC or changing position on the boat). It might be related to when enemy ships appear. Like Santini mentioned above. I have a patched EXE using the GenPatcher.
The only strange looking row in the log is related to "G:\SH5\data\Sea\JPGunBoat01\JPGunBoat01.ait not found. Additional info disabled for unit"
I have the debug log attached.
Computer is a Windows 8 (Running sh5.exe as admin and compat with XP sp3). i7 950, 6 GB RAM etc etc.
Will try previous version of NewUI.
PS I have disabled real navigation and not using scopes (whatever that is).
PS2. No luck with 7.4.2 of NewUI either. Same crash.

Yeah, that ain't it for me.
On my rig, I can run the game up to 4096 tc with nary a hitch.
8 gb ram, 2500k cpu, 7850 2gb card.

Hello guys, appreciate all help from you.
But, I'm starting over. I want to play this sim - now :)
So, what is the minimum mods/patches I need to install to have SOME realism and "playability".
Should I start with TDW Generic Patcher? What mods do I need to apply for that patcher? I can live with the minimum amount for the Generic Patcher to work.
Maybe I don't need all of Sobers mega mod. I would like the Open Horizon stuff and the new UI (I guess). But everything else I can possbly live without. Since I don't have time to learn everything in detail I can live with simplied aiming... but I want torpedoes to be correct.
Also wolfpacks and supply etc would be nice to have. And correct updates/mods for the subs.
Advices are welcome!

I've tried Danzig bay at TC 1. Doesn't work. Also I have saved just before the crash happens and still it crashes. I'm not using bridge or scopes, just the map.
And I wouldn't say i7 950 with 6 GB ram is a low spec.
Can Crossfire (dual GPU:s) be a problem?

Okay, here is the exact order of events:
Start game using latest mod list. Exit harbor, get out to the deeper water, save game, play around a bit making sure that I have the feel down. Head towards Danzig, TC x64
Smoke on horizon, take a peek, looks like some fellow Kraut boats.
Bit later, more smoke!
Take a peek, ooooh that's gotta be some Pollack shipping. Plot intercept!

Crawl along a bit. Okay, periscope depth. Go from Map -> scope, insta CTD

Try it x3 times more, same result. Regardless of CTD, there is a point at which going from map to 3d causes insta CTD.
SO, troubleshooting: Disable realnav, any of my extra radio mods, etc, turn on external camera. Start new campaign.
Sitting well outside the bay, about 20 km out, watching some German battlecruiser dance about, from map and 3d without issue.
Move camera to that unit, insta CTD. Never broke TC 1. Repeat process twice to confirm
Go from newui 7.5 to 7.4.2, start new campaign, no real nav, external cam, etc
For whatever reason, no CTD. Save about 20 km from danzig, go running around the bay on map and in 3d with no issue, close enough to see the faces of the Polish destroyer crew, crank the TC up and down, from 1 to 2048, without issue, while german bombers come and go, etc.
Okay, so it was 7.5, right? Turn on real nav, turn off external cam, start new campaign... CTD
:wah: *PRIMAL SCREAM*
Anyhow, currently using OHII Light, which skips past Danzig. I just wanna sink ships at this point. No issues.

I see.. so, why don't you use NewUIs 7.4.2? is there any reason? NewUIs 7.5.0 is a test version and is still in testing mode..

I am using 7.4.2 currently, the thing is that the next campaign I started had the same CTD, meaning the cause of the crash is not 7.5.0, but instead some object that just happened to not be in Danzig for that one particular campaign I began

I've gone "back to basics". Last night I started a new campaign with the following mod package (Fifi basic list of mods (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=203711)).

I will start from there and and mods when the game feels stable. I will report back when I have the task force in sight and if the game loads and runs stable after that.

Taken out some mods . Trying to stop peoples ctds . Too much memory perhaps . Carry on with your current campaign using the new list . Either in port or on patrol .

I doubt it unless you have an older card. See my thread which mentions crossfire (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2099832&postcount=10662)

I noticed in the last few days, lots of people are having CTDs with Danzig again on this thread. Sometimes others are mentioning FX update v22 CTDs. The FX update thread is mentioning CTDs alone with the new version 22 or a combination when certain radio patches are enabled.

For now I am not going to update to FX Update 22 until I complete this mission since it is May 15, 1940. I am playing Open Horizons and soon will be playing Happy times in June.
Sometimes I change mods after starting a new campaign, sometimes I change mods when I return to the bunker. Many subsimmers were reporting CTDs with OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2.1. I was using NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2 at the time. During debug testing of OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2.1, the two lifeboat mods in my modlist solved CTDs with Open Horizons. Volodya61 and Trevally agreed.
Thanks volodya61. I corrected version #s after time to reflect on this. OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2.2 came out so fast, with lifeboat CTD fix and the new Memel port, after OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2.1.

As I remember this issue (lifeboats) was with OHII v2.1.. not with OHII v2.2.. but I may be wrong :hmmm:..

Trevally had mistakenly left some lifeboat files in the OHIIv2.1.. I don't remember exactly in which folders.. so OHIIv2.1 could work without mistakes only with lifeboat mods installed also.. something like that, if I remember correctly..
EDIT: on the other hand, I saw these mistakes only using SH Validator by TDW and I don't remember any troubles in my game for this reason..

Do sinking ships not show up on the hydro?
I broke the back of a freighter (single shot, G7E, the only one I've had work of 7 shots so far), and was hanging out at about 50 meters repairing a bit of damage and reloading my torps when I heard a contact at about 30, growing louder.
Did a quick spin of the wheel trying to figure out where the sinking boat was, heard nothing, shrugged and went 1/3rd ahead, diving towards 70.
Ended up half pinned and pretty seriously damaged under the ship I had just sunk, at about 60 meters, almost lost my boat!
Full reverse and diving to 100 meters got me out somehow, just short of the bottom, and limped on home for repairs, but was kind of puzzled that I couldn't hear the wreck on the hydro
Edit: Also, is it possible to adjust the time it takes to switch from standard to recharge propulsion? 20 minutes seems a bit long

Just wanted to leave a token of gratitude for compiling the list and keeping it up to date. Last time I seriously engulfed on a Feindfahrt was during the SH3/GWX days but recently I felt the itch again.

I definitely had CTDs when I updated my modlist with OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2.1 after returning to the bunker, not a campaign. At the same time, fellow subsimmers were talking about CTDs after the new v2.1 came out. Troubleshooting began!
I ran the SH validator and told me some LifeBoat*.cfg files were missing or referencing other data not to be found from somewhere else. I actually had the lifeboat mods in my available mods list that solved the problem. I never used them, AND were never enabled during the CTDs. So I had a vague memory about their file structure.
Config files were calling for the files either in the data\Sea\NLifeBoat_02 or data\Sea\NLifeBoat_01 folders that were not there. Duplicated the necessary files for the folders needed. Problem solved and reported back to Trevally and reverified.

I've spent hours updating, run the latest .mep file but it says 182 mods found (69 active).
For example it says OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2.2 is NOT active yet, the game boost as OH II.
Any ideas? :(.
