I'm still downloading and configuring all the mods, after a week.
Maybe one day I'll be able to start my first patrol.
That IF after enabling all the mods and following the biggest instruction manual of all time, the game runs without crashing.

One thing I noticed while enabling your mod soup, Sober:
Most of your mods (I mean YOURS, Sober Mods in the list) have a wrong folder setup:
inside of the folder, you have another MOD folder, and inside another folder with the
name of the mod, and then inside finally the "data" folder.
I normally carefully check these things before enabling, but new players might
forget/not know about it and just put the folder in the MODS folder and enable as is,
resulting in the mod not working and possibly the game crashing since some mods will be enabled without their counterparts.

No worries, it was just tongue in cheek... I know a lot of players appreciate having a 'mega mod' guide and as such it provides a lot of value to the community.
Besides, I mostly meant folks who spend a lot of time in mod forums tend to enjoy customizing just as much as, (if not more than), actually playing. So the comment, (i.e. wrong place) was intended across the board, and not just your thread. :yep:

I was using this one, but i had a small graphical glitch, with the watch officer beard.
Looking at him with the sea in background, his beard had a kind of white halo around.
So i chose back the regular alt faces, and problem was gone :yep:
Might be coming from my video card, or drivers though (if am alone experiencing this)

what are your computer specs ?
I've a G73JH-A1 Asus Laptop.
It's basically a:
i7 1.6ghz
8gb ram
5870 HD
1tb HD
17" Led 1080p
For a 3 year old laptop, still runs great. I can run SH5 on the highest settings without mods.
With mods, I can get a stable 30fps with medium-high settings and no AA.

hey all, couple questions. If I wanted to substitute dynamic enviro. in the mod list instead of real enviro. would it work without bugs? and if so, what order should i install it in? (should i uninstall everything down to real enviro. swap it for dynamic, then reinstall all other mods on top?)

I'm currently using the MMM mod but thinking of giving your mod a try in the next campaign I do.
One of the things that I do like about the MMM mod is it incorporates stormy's das boot sound mod however I've been updating the MMM mod and it's getting a bit unstable with the odd CTD.
One question for you.....how come you haven't included stormy's mod in your list? any particular reason?

Neither do I :dead: but it adds sooo much immersion I think. Lots of sound clips from das boot.
As for the movement key's I'm not sure on that one. I've been using the arrow keys for so long now it's second nature! I take it you prefer the wasd keys?

Only voice is in german, text is displayed in english (subtitle).
Also, with time you start learning what they are saying, as it's a limited amount of text/content.

As suggested by Bart you can make a small donation for increasing your download limit. This is a community of sub history and simulations' lovers. They are putting their effort and time in it absolutely for free.
But, as uou might be aware, Internet band is not for free. The more downloads from members like you and me, the more band used, the bigger the expenses for the forum owners.
The money collected through donations pays the fees required for keeping subsim alive, and for providing FREE downloads to us members. :yep:

Goes to NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0 Older version then the stuff i linked above.They are all included in that 1 file . So dont enable the whole file with the mod enabler . Look for the individual file folders . Some folders you have to read the instructions first before enabling .

OKay thanks for info.
I'll call it a night now, been doing this for over 2 hours now fooling around with download limits, changing VPN's, junk accs, shady filehosts and other time stealing things.
I still have half list left to do.
If you came here to download this, Don't do it unless you really have 3-4 hours to dedicate to torture yourself. It's a pain in the @$$, trust me. I'm seriously both physically and psychologically exhausted.
I don't want any other human being to go through this inhumane process of pure suffering again.:wah:
There is only 2 options here if you still want to keep your sanity, pay them what ever ransom want for the filepack or press ctrl+W.
:dead:We would like you to experience all the frustrations a uboat captain had , and thats just installing the game and mods .

This way people can download the whole pack at once without a sweat.
Enabling all the mods and configuring the game is already hard enough.
And Sober, if there is anything you need to change in commands.txt file to make compatible,
you can always download the program SetKeys 1.3 and easy set any command to any key.
Easy as pie.

Many problems with the DBSM compatability with sobers mega mod . CTDs , sub not responding , sounds looping :timeout:

P.S. Good work Mr.Sober, I was running MMM with other mods until it became unstable then took the plunge and adopted your list (minus a couple of minor mods) and I must say it is rock solid, Good job.

Another advantage by doing such a pack would be fully funcional, CLEAN and TESTED version of the mod. I must say I started downloading them one by one yesterday prioritising the ones available through other 3rd paries sites first and after few minutes I got a pretty nasty alerts coming from my antivirus software.
So in respect for newbies and mod makers the best solution would be just to group them in one downloadable pack (if its possible as an installer, if not just like there are), get them tested and if you dont want to stress your bandwitch too much what may be unerstandable just apply small fee.
From my own experience the best way to get them quick, CLEAN and without any additional hassle is to compile them in one exe file.
After initial "return to harbor" CTD's I've switched to Dynamic Environment. Now I am getting a CTD upon exiting Kiel. Every single time.
Just did a clean install, everything from scratch. No luck. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Go to the mod enabler and click on Tasks/Load mod profile.
Click on the new MEP file.
Download the new mods needed.

I've managed to successfully download all of the required MODs for Sober's Mega MOD with only one exception, that being;

After trying both our site's download page and Google I find that it is only available on Game Front which is not available to me as I live in one of the blocked countries.
Would it be possible to make it available on Media Fire or one of the other more enlightend download sites. It would be most appreciated.

There's a slight discrepancy in mods order between posts 1 and 2 especially at the end of the list. Which one of them is correct as I've
noticed some files may be overwritten?

Yes and the contrast is high maybe the colors are just too rich. I've tried options adjustments, but the effect is still strong

my game always crashed so I never gave silent hunter 5 a serious shot! (now upgraded system)
I find it ridiculous however to pay 10-20 dollars and then find out this game is still unplayable for me! I only come on subsim for silent hunter 5. (not enough time to come on here more)
anyway PM if someone is willing! otherwise I will have to use the MMM mod.

I hear you, we are adding a combo pack to the Bonus Mods for donors, so you will be able to download them all without restriction. Check the Bonus Mods forum for news.
It's not $10, it's $5. And the donations keep the website running, pay for the server, and allow for safe hosting. Subsim has been managing this for 16 years and with the traffic the site and forum gets, the server costs are a little over $570 a month. As you probably can guess, I am responsible for managing this and keeping it going, so any support from the users is essential.
There is no law against that so no one will blame you if you do that and start new thread like " Sober's megamod torrent". Just give appropriate credits and links to all the guys that work hard to make the game that is now. :up:

Fine by me, torrents are actually very good, my ASUS downloads are all on torrent program made by ASUS. I believe that piracy is the main reason, it became internet cancer these days :/\\!!

@Navuhodonosor: Yes, I agree. Torrents are not a bad thing, but they can be used for illegal things. Mostly they can get a website like this in trouble. With the downloads section, I can manage what is uploaded into the file bank. With torrents, I cannot check and make sure all torrents posted are legal, safe, or active. I learned the hard way that when someone posts a torrent link on the site, I get could get a call from a lawyer. Replying with my own attorney cost me several hundred dollars. :wah:
The amazing thing with a community like you guys is, you will step up and support the site. I was discussing this with my father a few days ago, around Christmas. I told him how much it cost to run the site and he said I was crazy; I also told him that almost every month, the costs are covered by purely volunteer donations from the members. Sometimes there is some left over! He found it hard to believe, but that's the magic of Subsim and its members-- we really are a collection of sub fanatics who each pull our weight aboard the sub. :salute:

Maybe JSGME did something wrong for you, it happens sometimes (rarely but yes) ,once I had a problem with overlapping dock icons at the upper right corner,and be sure to install all mods to a clean SHV installation:salute:

Be sure to install mods at right order and that you do not mess with JSGME when installing mods, ( for example to move its window and make it non responsive). It may sound stupid but that may help you to completely reinstal game (Did it myself once or twice). Let it do its job without interference and if you are on slower rig than that means "keep your hands off the keyboard and mouse".

I got some more questions that I can't seem to locate:
1A) Snorkel depth is working fine (no shortcut to lower and raise it?)
1B) does decks awash have a button on the left next to snorkel/periscope depths? ( I have it set to true with the Generic File Patcher, AND I patched it with that patch.
2) where do I change back the feet to meter since its an german boat so I reckon it should have meters and I am also used to the metric system.
3) where can I remove the real navigation? thats just to much of a hassle!

If you're asking as to whether there are shortcuts to raise/lower the snorkel there is (since he based this off of my NewUIs mod). I don't remember if I gave you the ability to assign key shortcuts to them, check the options editor/viewer. You can raise/lower via the officer icons though :up:

You mean about button on the lower left side? It should be there and you can set depth with the patcher. I think that the default is at 7.00 meters. I do not know about UI but I guess It must be SHV Extended.

Yes it is. The observation periscope didn't rise as high as the attack periscope. This is modeled with my UIs mod and other mods.

Usually I do but even when surfaced for a while sometimes there's no other way just to use a teleport. I'll try to give it a clean install as I've messed with all that modes quite a lot recently.

I had the exact same problem! besides the hatch no longer opening the longer this bug persisted the more thing I could no longer do! say dive or change course/speed!
anyway this happened once!
I love the mod! I have been playing with all of the recommended mods and I love it! it's such a challenge just to get to the open seas! then find a target and finally shoot it!
sometimes the tutorial crashes! is there anything I can do to stop that or just have luck and not crash

Nope, got rid Crew Morale a while ago along with couple others and the problem still exists. Like I said I'll try to reinstall the game later. EDIT: Forgot to add that when on rough sea when the sub is bouncig off the waves sometimes the game cannot decide weather the boat is submeged or surfaced. What I mean is the submerged icon on the right upper corner is popping up as I'm trowling throug the waves and than disappears when the boat moves up a bit. The same happens with a radar. It is switching itself constantly between on and off mode. Maybe that's got to do something with it?
EDIT 2: Is it normal for destroyers to blow themselves up ocassionally while deploying depth charges?

it most likely comes from TDW UI. Take screenshots of the messages and post them in his UI thread so he could look into them and solve in the future.

Well, I'm coming back to SH5 and Subsim after a long pause and gonna give a try to your mod soup Sobers! Seems to be a good place to start over again!
Since the last couple of days I've nearly downloaded all of the required mods from either the forum downloads section or via other sharing sites.
However, I've tried anyway to load you MEP file to see what mods I still have to get but noticed that some that I have already downloaded are not "recognized" by your mep file.
I just want to check that out with you:
- I've downloaded (from another source) "KZS Hull Wetness for U-Boats + co tower and deck" but the name from you mep file is "KZS Hull Wetness for U-Boats + co tower and deck_revided_by_thedarkwraith". Is that a different version? I just might redownload the file from this forum instead to be sure...
- I've downloaded here "OH II minefield map" but the name from you mep file is "OH II minefiled map for TDWs UI". Is that a different version or do I just have to rename it?
- You mep file looks for V1 of your "Sobers bad weather deck gun" but the download here points to the V3 version. Is there a reason for that?

Hmmm, how can I keep the Stormys DBSM mod and stock key mapping?
I know that I can just delete Commands.cfg from Stormys mod and that way will DW UI-s command.cfg would not be overwritten. But does someone know will that affect or brake something?
And is it the right place for the mod after MCCD or before TDW UI?

I4ve reinstalled my SH5 game on version 1.2, deleted my save games, activated the Oen orizon 2 mod and did the tutorial. Once done i leave the game and load sober's mod list, and restart the game. But when i try starting a new campaign, the game CTD.... i really don't know what i did wrong.
Would someone nice be able to help me? :p

When you are on that screen where you can choose which to play (only first is available and all other are grayed out), type " silentotto " without the quotes and hit Enter.

Actually I do not know what really happened.:o I know that winrar that i used to extract the files sometimes do a lousy work when extracting files compressed with other archivers, and the real problem is that it does not report the error so you can think that files are properly extracted and in fact they are not. So try with another archiver to extract .7z archives. For now the problem is gone but we shall see, if more people has the same problem than something is wrong with deleting the nav fixes:06:

Great! I bought SH5 on release and had a really annoying time with it. Gonna mod the game up on the weekend and enjoy it for what it should have been. Thanks all you great modders.

I don't recall the nav fix , time compression and teleport, yes. I noticed that my nav fixes were turning up on land if I was at the coast. and all the problems you had plus one of my targets generated no wep . I use the function the file is packed in so never used win to unpack a 7 zip:hmmm:
I think Ill just wait untill I reinstall to see if their is any more information available, I have thought of downloading the entire list again using the new all in one download, but their have been no reports on functionality to far out of port yet. and it seems a waste to throw out all my saved mods and redown the whole lot.

Keep me posted, since we had the same problem I am interested to see how it worked for you. Maybe some of the alpha mods or inertia is messing your game.

I got an other question, does the celestial fix works only at night? Because when i ask for a celstia fix report, the officer gives me the weather, and then i do'nt have any information on my position. Is it a bug?

I might point out the obvious, so excuse me, but some of the mods in Sober's
list should not be extracted directly to the MODS folder in SH5, because they
have several subdirectories (say: mods) inside and the mods have to be activated
by copying to the MODS folder in SH5. You can see the difference if the extracted
mod has a folder named 'data', 'MODS' or, for example 'OPTIONAL MODS'.
And, please read the 'readme.txt' files before applying any mods.

Nav marks on land, This is due to the random error that is built into the nav fix when it is worked out (no sat nav). This error can be adjusted in TDWs options.py
So if you are close to land - then you may see this happening
Celestial fixes can be taken at any time. If you use my auto script - it will be 5 times a day :-
Real Nav Auto Fix Patrol - This will auto report Celestial postion 5 times per day & Dead Reckoning every 2 hours.
This can be run from your automation button (Real Navigation - Position on Patrol - Real Nav Auto Fix).
As these scripts use a "wait for time" command, choose the script that matches your local time. (i.e. 04-08 = start script between 0400 and 0800 local time)
When it starts the Navigator will carry out a celestial fix (weather permitting) and plot on your map. Then each 2 hours he will carry out a dead reckoning fix and mark your map giving you a total of 12 position fixes per day.
The 5 celestial check per day are:-
1) Pre-dawn twilight
2) Ante Meridian (AM) Sun.
3) Noon Sun
4) Post Meridian (PM) Sun
5) Post Sunset twilight
The fix can't be taken it the weather is bad - dam fog:arrgh!:

Anyone help me with this please?
I have sobers mod loaded and the generic patches installed. I made a couple of changes to the MEP and various folders to make them agree. The only one I can think that might indicate a bad install, is the hull wetness mod. I could not find any to download named "...revised_by_TDW" so I renamed my folder.
I'm embarking on my third mission. The first, I had trouble getting out of Kiel, with several CTDs, but I got there in the end. The worst part was not in the estuary but as I enterred the sea. Once in the Baltic and returning to base at night, I had no problems except navigating in pitch black. That was fun :cool:
Second mission to Scapa Flow, leaving Wilhelmshaven, passed without a single CTD.
In between that mission and this third one, I installed the anti-lag mod to SH5 directory. I sailed to Cuxhaven, the navigator took me up the Kiel canal and then I encounterred the same CTDs trying to enter open sea again. Every time I CTDed I reopened and saved every few minutes until the next crash. The last save was so close to the CTD spot I can no longer open the file, it just won't load.
Any ideas?

Hi. The mod order is sobers' MEP, with the generic patcher added at top, a folder added for silentmichals' mod, speech fixes changed to german version and "_revised_by-TheDarkWraith" added to the hull wetness mod.
The CTD seems to be dependant on the location, not state of the sub. It happens with or without time compression, while on deck or in captains bed or looking at the nav map or anywhere else inside. I probably had the real navigation script running in all cases as it's one of the first things I do on launching the game. Hope that helps and thanks for your time.
Edit: I just loaded an auto save and, submerged, got 3k out to sea. Surfacing out of sight of land, I headed east. CTD! Another thing that could be a constant though I'm not absolutely sure, is that the CTDs seem to occur after a direction change which has always been 80-85 degrees.
Edit 2: OK, it's not the direction change.
Edit 3: Looks like its to do with TC. Although it sometimes happens without, rising to X32 or more causes a fairly instant CTD, even if I'm in the sub and looking at the nav map.
Strange it doesn't happen in port where I would have thought there's be more memory in use.

Don't worry floyd, it'll be alright we won't have any documents folders and all the sub directories and whatnot will be properly handeled. You can rest assured.

O k new install same problem I think the first sign is the shallow water indicator overlapping the tdc options controlls. I think It has to do with the order the installation steps are carried out. For instance when do yu use the options editor, when do you make the changes to the save games main, when do you run the tutorial.

You can fix the icon problem ,there is small cross from the right side to drag it to the right place, it is little tricky but manageable.
Second when you do the tutorial other changes does not matter because other mods do not work. Only important thing is to enable mods in bunker and not to add them later on sea (some can but...) and every time to save to different save. check if you did enable some patches and did not make changes in your options file that depend on them. For example the patch for independent props has two patches to enable in .exe and deck awash must be enabled in .exe and in options file.:salute:

I downloaded sobers mega-mod (the all-in-one download); I followed the instructions to my best but I have a CTD ("SH5 stopped responding...") every time I try to load or continue a campaign.
I started with a fresh install; I installed the OHII mod, started a campaign, exited to windows and edited the campaign cfg file so that I could skip the tutorial. Then I disabled OHII, edited sobers.mep to add the Generic Patcher and Speech Recognition then added the new mep file via JSGME. On the next savegame load: CTD.
Without the mods I can start a new campaign, skip the tutorial and get to the docks; I then save, re-enable the mod list but I get a CTD on the next load.

It always looks the same at every CTD; the TDWDestroyedMarks sections is always what seems to cause the crash.

How to start the campaign if using sobers mega mod list
Delete the SH5 folder from my documents.
Enable the mod OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2 with the mod enabler.
Start a new campaign with only OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2 enabled.
Do the tutorial mission with only OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2 enabled.
Once captain rahn has talked to you and you have recieved the green tick in the bunker exit the game.
Load all the mods with the mod enabler using the MEP file.
Start the game and load the latest save game which will be the bunker save game.
Go to the technical officer and enter the upgrade screen and choose the rotating hydrophone.
Before clicking on the flotilla comander hit esc and go to the ingame options screen and choose your difficulty options .
Exit out of the upgrade screen and go talk to the flotilla commander and choose a mission .
You must get a loading screen before being placed on the submarine.

You can with TDWs UI if you select "strategic icons" from the map and TAI menu in game:hmm2:Its when people use real navigation . Its just simpler to install OH2 and play the tutorial , which takes 5 minutes and then exit the game and load the rest .
I also had problems like fraforno with the all in one down load. The only way I found to avoid the CTD was to remove TDW Ship Inertia mod - no problems since then :cool:.

One problem I've got with the list is I can't hear anything through the hydrophone other than my own sub noise. Hydrophone guy works ok and picks up contacts as he should, but if I take over station......silence! no ship noises at all :dead:

Maybe this is foolish answer but try to rig for silent and stop all engines, wait for sub to stop then do a sweep:hmmm:

I checked little my game files, I use real nav. you said that you have lines to contacts. So maybe the lines are longer than hydro can reach so that is the reason and another thing may be the volume. I followed long range contact and I had to raise the volume on my PC because it was pretty hard to hear it. And check the angles your hydro can hear. :hmmm:

I tried re-installing all over again and following these exact instructions, but the outcome was the same: CTD at game load. Hoewever, disabling TDW Ship Inertia mod did the trick for me too, now it works like a charm!

I noticed that on two identical computers with the exact same specs and mod-lists, it can work on one and don't work on another :hmmm:
We have been discussing this issue on sukhoi.ru in August when I made the first version of my mod-pack..

Dosnt work... did everything in the manual. Watched out that every Mod has "data" folder behind and is correctly activated. Used 1600 release... After mission 1 in bunker everything activated and ctd while load. Clean install of Sh5 with 1.2 update. Any Ideas? Where can i find the crashlog?

I just began a new game with the new instructions for loading, (deleting the saved games folder) and added the new Page default hud, At first load I got a stuttering mess. I posted my doubts, I had gone ahead and made the changes to my new saved games folder. In any event I tried to load it again and It worked! I seem to have a noticeably.. working game. I saved in the baltic patroll area, and will keep playing until I am proved wrong.

If I load the mods list using the mep file it CTD on load up, however if I do it the long way and enable them individually it works, but I get no hydrophone as I reported in an earlier post. Wonder if this has something to do with the inertia mod :hmmm:

These days that would be suicide, 32 bit system can address only up to 4 gigs of memory including your graphic card memory, so that means that if you have graphic card with 1 gig memory of its own ( not shared ) your system will address it and additional 2.5 -3.0 gigs of RAM. Everything else is a waste of memory and money.
Definitely not for this game modded to run well :know::salute:

Only CTD that left on my game was that on exit and now is gone when i deleted library folder from Silentmichal mod. I use external camera so i just added some graphic goodies from dynamic enviroment to your mod. And game runs like never before, thanks for your hard work for making this soup:up:

Hardware cant be my problem. I7 2600K @3,9Ghz 16GB Ram Corsair 2x Asus HD7970 3072MB in x-fire mode so 6142MB of vid memory...still ctd when loading after all mods put in.

...well, time for switching to the sky color + darker nights + murky waters patch, for the ones who like the "Das boot effect" ;)
The advantages of DynEnv's murky waters over North Atlantic Green are two:
- DynEnv's murky water color is of a greish-greenish shade. In my opinion this is much more realistic than the green color seen in Das Boot, which seems to me more appropriate for a swamp than for open sea.
- DynEnv's murky water color is restricted to the Baltic, British coastal waters, and other limited coastal areas around the globe where upwelling and algal booms are happening in RL. Elsewhere, you will enjoy the usual blue water color :yep:

First, thx for your hard work! Decided to give Sh5 another go when i saw this...
But I'm experience some problems. First of all, what is the diffrence between mods.mep, sobers DBSM.mep and sobers.mep? It seems that it's only sobers.mep that work with the download.
Second, i can't get it to work. I install the game fresh, delete the SH5 folder in my documents, start the game with only open horizons II full v2. Do the tutorial and docks in Kiel. After the talk I quit the game and load sobers.mep. But when I try to load the autosave in base it CTDs. I've also tried to to a save after walking around in the bunker, but still CTD.
Funny thing thou, I tried to load an old save from may, and it worked. Didn't check if it was all working, just loaded to the base and quit. Do anyone have any ides?
