4 Gb of RAM on a Windows 7 64-bit OS. OS seems to use 1.3-1.5Gb while Idle (hatching plans to conquer the universe more like), yet it still leaves it with more than 2Gb of RAM, which I would have thought it to be more than enough. Indeed while observing the game's memory usage, it only uses up to about 1.5Gb of memory right before it crashes. So unless the OS is limited to 3Gb, it shouldn't be the problem I reckon.
For Sober's mod list 4 gig is a little low, I had the same issue at five gigs, I got some more ram and now I have 7 gigs with no problems of crashing at load up. If you look at the properties of your Mod folder you will see there is a lot data there and that just the Mods. Memory sir is your issue, Good news ram can be cheap,otherwise try removing environmental mods and any thing you can live with out. Do you have a 32 or 64 bit operating system you might be limited to 4 gigs or like me it came with a 32 bit OS even though my hardware supported a 64 bit OS, A gig extra is not a surprise as it can easily run out of memory (A file larger than a gig needs to still load) before it say your using all your available memory causing a crash at load. Windows 7 can use a lot of memory just at idle and with background programs running there is more going on than your RAM can handle.

What switch are useing, 3 or 4 gig switch, or dont you need to use a switch if useing a 64bit os ?, as i think i read somewhere that the switches actually reverse ram usuage ? can someone explain if we actually need to use a switch even if useing a 32bit os, as i thought the sh5.exe does allocate max ram anyway regardless off os.

there´s an application called CFF Explorer. With this you can check the exe and edit. Unfortunately i don´t know hoe to use it. But the one who can, could explain if the exe is already fixed for 64bit system to use the ram.

at the moment I can only confirm that for me sobers mod list run properly without using the 4gig switch. But i will check the exe next time with the CFF Explorer. For me it seems that the 4gig switch is not to use for the sh5.exe to run more than 2GB of Ram.

When you unzip the mod Multiple UIs for SH5 with TDC and Automation look in this folder for the application
Dbgview .
It is found in
NewUIs_TDC_*_*_*_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Applications
Move it to your desktop and enable it before clicking on the SH5 icon to start SH5

First I would like to thank everyone involved in mod making for turning SH5 into a better game.
A special thanks goes to sober for this mod list. Without it and your instructions I don't think I would ever try to mod SH5. :salute:
I ran into a bit of trouble patching my sh5.exe file and using the OptionsFileEditorViewer but in the end I think I did everything right...
Is there an easy way to check? :03:
I started a new campaign (again followed instructions) and noticed a couple of things:
- My uboat has no flag... Shouldn't there be one?
- I noticed there's a mod called "Church's Compass Dials Mod v2.2"... But I have no round dials... Am I missing something?
- I created a ship's journal with my name but when I press the Ship's Journal icon it says "U021 (TheDarkWraith)" on top... Is this normal?
- I'm still getting used to Real Navigation... In case I want the old easier navigation method back can I just disable the "NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_Real_Navigation" mod?
- I get a CTD when I try to talk to the rear torpedo room officer...
- Uplay keeps synchronizing an old savegame (from 2010) even after I deleted it...

1) Not with this mod list. There is a SubFlag mod by TDW, but I haven’t managed to make it work yet (but I haven’t managed many things with SH5 yet, lol)
2) You do. If you are using the default UI in the TDW’s UIs (SH5Enchanced) then you need to click on, for example, direction line settings and a round dial will appear. Or, I also believe, you can press “C”
3) The name of the journal itself does not matter. You need to edit the TDWs NewUI option file. For instructions you can look at more instructions below the sober’s list, in Multiple UI mod thread and there is some info in a recently posted “Ship Journal” thread.
4) Yes, you can easily disable it. But remember NOT to follow sober’s instructions on Real Nav in this case.
5) Dunno with the CTD thing. I would strongly recommend running Dbgviewer with your game and posting the output.
6) The only TRUE way to delete the saved games completely is to go to “Save Game” and delete them one by one from in-game. I think I found another way by manually removing saved games from SH5 Document folder and from UPLAY’s Program Files folder, but I don’t want to re-test this atm.

The SubFlag mod is not compatible with some of the mods I have installed so... no sub flag on my Uboat! :D
I still have to check for those round dials but I think the "C" key is for crashdive...
I'll stay away from that CTD simply by not talking to that crew member. Easy!

LOL, ok on the green spinning hulk thingy. I won't ask.:D But I have run into a bit of a snag on the NewUI optionsviewereditor. or (NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Application s \OptionsFileEditorViewer). I can't get it to open up for me. I go to OptionsFileEditorViewer.exe, it opens I click on file. and the only choices I have are (Set path to Menu.txt and Set SH5 install path)
Now I have already installed the Generic patch 1.3 by TDW. I followed (9THIFNSwords Vidieo Tutortial. Thanks Sword!) but Im getting stuck on the editorViewer. it keeps kicking me back to the beginning. There's no Open options lit up. Any ideas guys.
Here's the path Im taking: Set SH5 to install path\Computer\local disk C\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 and then nothing!

If i replace the July list to the new one thas has OPEN HORIZONS II_base v2 and OPEN HORIZONS II_enviro v2 separated, i have to start a new campaign?? :stare:

Hello to all of you, and after reading all the pages in this thread I am now squared eyed. Must say a big thanks to sober, TDW and all the other modders that have helped make this mod soup. Would like to say thanks to 9thinfSword (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=249311) for his youtube, I think we could do with more videos that help us new ones understand this whole modding thing.
Once I have downloaded the list I will post back and let people know if I have had any ctd's. I would like to post up some videos of the working mod on youtube, but as I have only had the pc for a week I am still moving over programs from my old system. When finished and set up I will let you know.

Hey guys again.
I have a question about the crew management page, and i'm asking here since i use Sobers mod list.
All my guys are atm maxed out on the available training, but as far as for me as captain i'm still only 56% trained and it doesn't seem to move. Any ideas, explanations?
And another thing, had a merchant navy captain over at my place last week. There are some terminology stuff in the game that he just lauged about. When you do rudder hard port/starboard is says "180 degrees to port/starboard". He meant that a rudder for this time is maxed out somewhere around 40 degrees, i don't remember exactly. And the speed speech/text, it's apparently not called "back", it's called "Astearn".
Just my 5 cents ;)

I try 2 things to see if I get CTDs when making changes to mep files. First I make sure I get back to ending a patrol. Then I modify a mep file and create a new name for it just in case I have to use the old mep file.
Secondly, if I get too many crashes still, then I complete a campaign such as Happy Times, then I modify a mep file and create a new name for it just in case I have to use the old mep file. Then I start a new campaign such as Mare Nostrum or any other campaign to your choosing.

Voice & Help (my own voice recognition changes for command.cfg and help.cfg so that they do not interfere with NewUI_TDC too much)
U-Boat Watch Crew Routine SFXI try 2 things to see if I get CTDs when making changes to mep files. First I make sure I get back to ending a patrol. Then I modify a mep file and create a new name for it just in case I have to use the old mep file.
Secondly, if I get too many crashes still, then I complete a campaign such as Happy Times, then I modify a mep file and create a new name for it just in case I have to use the old mep file. Then I start a new campaign such as Mare Nostrum or any other campaign to your choosing.

I doubt if I will. I just changed New UI with TDC 7.1 to New UI with TDC 7.2 for testing purposes as requested by TDW. Not tested yet. I did not have CTDs with New UI with TDC 7.1.
Yes, you can use mep files in a way for the future. Are you using the (JGME), Jones Genereic Mod Enabler? If so, there is a way to save the mods, which saves them as a ***.mep file. That way you can disable some or all mods, then simple reload all mods at once instead of one at a time.

I will probably give OH a try again
I add/remove mods after a week or so of steady playing to try and get a list that is very stable while getting the most out of the game.
I know OH has alot of great things in it so it's a shame to miss out. I'll probably end up using the light verison of it

Patrolling north western approaches in the Total Germany campaign . Short duration days , pitch black nights , no external view , no under water periscope views , deck gun is impossible to use in rough seas , no crew spotting from scopes , fog . Impossible to id a flag at night if no moon , aaaarrrg .

Sober - have you ever used R.E.M (repaired equipment mod) as part of this list? I've just remodded using your list as a base, and adding REM at the end solves the annoying radio/radar aerials still being visible at periscope depth. I was a bit concerned it might conflict with your equipment dates patch, but it doesn't seem to modify the same files and looks to be ok so far (no crashes on first patrol, not back to port yet tho).

EDIT: while I'm thinking about it, noticed something weird during that first patrol. Your 'sober's see thru wake fix' adds a nice wake to the sub when surfaced, but also produces one when the boat's at periscope depth - a smaller one at the bow of the submerged sub, and a larger one just behind the conning tower. I loved the effect above water, but hated it when submerged, so I removed the wake fix mod. Don't know if this is a bug with the mod, or with my list, but figured you'd want to know. :)

Hi
I bought a new notebook:
Intel core i7
nVidia Geforce GT 650M 2Gb
1Tb hard disk
6Gb RAM
The problem: the manufacuter says that the notebook has 6 GB RAM ( 2 + 4)
I noticed that they say 2 + 4
I noticed that when i installed the Sh5 game, only 2 Gb was assumed and the appears a "!" icon on that.
Now, playing the game with sobers list mods, i can't start a carreer ( CTD when entering the bunker for the first time), can't play Historical missions either.
Before enabling the sobers list i was able to play the tuturial without CTD's
What's happening? Before i had a notebook that had 4Gb of ram (NOT 2+2) and i played the game resonable, some CTD's sometimes but playable. Now with this new notebook i can't play the game!

Yes i did, i am using Generic mod enabler and enabling the mods one by one. In the other notebook i had with the same method and the same list i played the game. The only mod that i use that you don't have in yhe current list is "stoianm colored exterior mod v2 (low color)"

You dont load them one x one . Click on Tasks\load mod profile and then click on the MEP file to auto download the mods automatically in the correct order . So , did you play the tutorial right thru until you were in the bunker and recieved the green tick . Went back to the main game screen and clicked on new campaign . Clicked on the campaign and skipped the tutorial . Entered the bunker and then Esc out of the bunker and clicked on the save that was just created . Esc to options and chose which difficulty options you want . Click on the bunker save again and click on the technical officer and upgrade your hydrophone . Exit from the technical officer and click on the flottilla officer and choose a mission . Exit out and then click on the technical officer again and accept the mission . You must get a loading screen before being placed on the sub . Bon Voyage .

I play the game with german language, so my first mod before your excelent list is "Geman Language Pack". In the list you have a mod for english speech, that i downloaded the german version.

I only have to say something,a point a view :) i would like to have Sub exaust smoke and see Life boats on the game when the other ships are sinking. Would be nice getting medals only one time per medal, and get Knight cross, then Knigh cross with oak leaves,etc, like Sh3 did.

1) The unofficial patches are in the exe format with good documentation. See here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181433). I also believe some people made a very good tutorial (video) on how to apply these patches.
2) There is a SubExhaust mod by TDW. I'm using it in my list (which is a derivative of sober's ofc) and it works like a charm :)
3) There is also the mod for the life boats (and I believe it has been recently updated to match kind of this list). I'm not currently using it, as I'm still ironing out some problems I have (I STILL CAN"T COME BACK TO KEIL, LOL - but i'm in the middle of switching computers, so will see if it was just a corrupt memory issue).
4) There are some amazingly good video tutorials by stoianm (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181538) that can help you concur the subject of manual targetting. :)

yes. Read through the the instructions carefully. Some things you might not want to enable just yet (going through major beta-testing atm and TDW still figuring things out).

Aww only 26 more mods left to install lol. Thanks for the list Sobers, made it really easy for me to mod the game after getting it. Played lots of SH4 but made the jump up to 5 after letting moders like yourself clean the game up. Heard it was hard to play at release.

OK don't panic its a small correction you need to make in your sober.mep. When i updated the mod list links. with sub bubbles i went with the most current available release. 0.2a and 0.2b are older versions which sober uses preferably . He also use tdw;s ui mod 7.2.0 however I did not give a link(it will match up automatically when darkwraith updates) to that one because its not an official release as of yet( the link can be found in his thread if you want near the end) so i gave the link to 7.1.0 . Just replace and copy the name to match the folder name on the mod and your mep folder and your good to go. OHII mind field map I just renamed the folder of the mod to match the mep opposite way as above and it works fine.

So I got the Viewer up and running and have made a few of the changes to the program. However im not sure what im suppose to do to enable the snorkel. I dont see any sign of it in the viewer.
Edit: Also the scopes for the game, do i not need to change anything if I want to use the manos scope mod? It says that manos is the default mod so if I deleted all the folders besides the ones listed below is it still installed or do i need to put the Manos scope mod into the mod folder? Also how do I decide on the patch to use?

Ok so I set the path to SH5/data/menu/menu.txt
Then I clicked file and opened up TheDarkWraithUserOptions from the SH5/data/scripts/menu
Where do I look inside the viewer? I'm about to go through every tab again but I never saw anything for the Snorkel the other times.
Edit: I just went through every tab and didnt see anything for enabling snorkel. Am I missing soemthing by anychance? Is there a mod folder or something I need before doing this? The only thing involving snorkels in the NewUis/TDC files is a NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_No_Snorkel_Exhaust_Smoke.

I've been, for the last 3 days, downloading all the necessary patches & mods for SH5. The extensive amount of work and dedication is very impressive. I would like to convey my sincerest appreciation to Sober, Trevally, SteelViking, The Dark Wraith, 9infSword, and all other modders in taking the time to make the game more realistic & enjoyable for the rest of us. Raven you can go through the entire list and get all the files that can be downloaded from different dl sites. Then you just use the profile loader and can see what files you need to go through and get still. Its the way I ended up getting everything. Now im just waiting on fixing the snorkel issue and I can play. Can't wait!!!

I agree. Thats what I've been working on. It's ALOT of info to go through. I'm deliberately going slow to ensure I do them all correctly, since there are so many. I'm getting anxious to play, to see all the mods in action. Stoianm's tutorials are very helpful as well. Dumb question: Whats the snorkel fix?

I changed the important contacts from 500 to 1000 klms

I changed the contacts cfg so the game doesnt drop to 1TC everytime i get a contact report
from far away .
The last mod in the list that uses the contact cfg should be

:sunny:Use the automation button on the right of the gui . The navigator will give you an x on the navmap every 2 hours . Click on the red square on the heading bar to bring up the compass . When the navigator gives you an x on the navmap use the map tool , compass to head in the general direction you need to go to . Its so much fun when in bad weather or fog you know the approx position but not exactly sure . accurate celestial position wont be available in bad weather , so you will only get dead reckoning . The more dead reckoning in a row you get the worse the navigator is at giving you your correct position .

Dont use travel mode for regular travelling .
Dont TC more than 250TC .
Have the option TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText = True
Then the game will drop down to 1TC before you hit land and give you time to reverse out before hitting the land .

I´ve had the same problem. This was after i unenable OHII full and put the base + enviro in.
The only way that works for me was a clear stock game, so reinstall.:/\\!!

But wondering which version of the New UIS using?
In your MEP file so it would be 7.2, but in downloadsen display 7.1
I run with 7.2 now, but was looking for a while for it so guess it might contain bugs when the recommended 7.1
I've disabled NewUIs_TDC_7_2_0_Real_Navigation. But then (I think) that even custom colors from the navigation tools disappear.
Anyone know if this is in this mod or something I missed.

For me sobers List works fine. I replaced many old Mods and it works and looks better than before.

Sometimes the Mods arent in the First Folder, sometimes there are more Mods in the Folder and you have to choose. I would check that, and read sobers Manual. :D
Dont forget the 1.2 Game Patch before.

Egal, mal auf deutsch jetzt. Der Deutschmod ist fast fertig für das aktuelle NewUi 7.1.0 und OHII v.2, einiges muss man raus nehmen für sobers liste, meld mich wenn ich neues von Mieswurtz und Ruby höre, welche den Deutschmod erneuern.

I'm pretty sure most of his mods work on steam version too.
The only thing that doesn't is the .exe patch, to my knowledge.
In regards to TDW-free mods - there are plenty. And a lot of mods on the sober's list either can be run w/o TDW UI or have stock-game options.
CSP MaGUI is one of the options.

em... you can just try TDW UI mod (on its own, w/o another 60 mods) and see if it works? That would be a good indication for the rest of the mods. And I would strongly recommend to read-up on .exe patcher and understand the difference between .exe patcher and regular mods.
I don't have Steam version, so I can't exactly go and test and tell you 100% if it will work, sorry

Yes - that is correct. The patcher will not work on the steam version.
Every other mod on Sobers list WILL work with steam:up:
So you can follow sobers mod list, but miss out the SH5.exe patcher

there is no flag on the u-boat in stock. The only real mod that took care of it was SubFlags by TDW, which works absolutely fine applied last. You might have some problems in case you are using any equipment mods and you need to slightly change the Sh.sdl file to fit OHII (or you can merge 2 sound bites into OHII Sh.sdl from the SubFlags mod and remove the file from the SubFlag folder) and you'll have a very nice flag.. or even two.

Just installed *MOST* of sobers mods and I am having random CTD`s I was playing the first campaign for about 2 hours and then returning to port, about 20km from land bam..CTD
computer is stable apart from that and high spec (gtx 680, 12 gb ram, i7 2500k)

I might not be able to use the NeUIs mods cause I'm running sh5 through wine. If anyone has any experience with wine and sh5 here is the console output running the game.

Since then, I can't play anything without CTD. I ran the JSGME validator & I have a LOT of conflicts. I know this is probably a dumb question, but is it normal to have conflicts between the mods on the list. Most of the conflicts are probably the documents folders . I am playing the game now . Most of the files are not good enough . You have to auto load the mods with the MEP file . Delete the documents folders from the mods before enabling.
A better way to do it for all mods, change the readme.txt of their mod to modname_readme.txt. That way you still have the documentation for reference if needed.

Did you ensure your game is updated to v1.2 (top right corner, main menu).
If not - CTD will happen:yep:

Yes sir. I updated with the UBISOFT patcher to 1.2 & used TDW's Generic patcher as well. I have a DL version of the game from UBI. It seems that the conflicts in the validator are with the mod files themselves. I wish there was some way to show you guys the readout from the validator. Also, it says the generic patcher doen't exist, but it's in the MODS folder and showing in JSGME. I think I might have to uninstall everything, game, mods, the whole thing and start all over.

Well I feel like a prize plum! I bought this game a couple of days ago and didn't see all the stuff on this forum about the problems with the Steam version. Guess where I got it from!
Is it ok to use these mods with the Steam version or is it just the unofficial patch that has the problem?

The medium fog has a greater visual spotting distance and also represents a dull overcast day .

Thanks. Put the latest fog mod in the mod enabler folder with all the other mods . Click on Disable all mods . Click on Tasks\load mod profile . Load the latest MEP file . Continue with your campaign \ save . It wont affect your campaign \ save in any way .

I'm sorry if I ask again but want to be extra sure. I've read around that enabling/disabling mods while on patrol or during a campaign can cause ctds and issues and I think I'm going to kill myself if I loose my career.
I understood that the 'best ever fog' mod won't affect it but what about the other ~72 installed mods? Do I need to be docked to disable/enable everything?
Since docking consumes 15 days, if I remember well, it can screw my missions so I also need to plan when to do that, if required. That's why the question.

Ok thanks I did what you said and told yes to overwrite as the 'real environment v3' was using the file, hope I did good still have to test.
By the way, I noticed the hydrophone doesn't work on surface even without the 'no hydro on surface' mod enabled (i'm not using it). There's probably another mod in the list already fixing that, can't tell which one.

You can use TDW's generic patcher if you have the DVD version of the game.
With the Steam version of the game it will not work!
You can installl the patcher manually and it will change the necessary codes in the sh5.exe file.
I would recommend to install the patcher as a mod, Trevally did a tutorial on how to: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=197960
Do a backup of the files as described in post 2 of that thread (also available as a download)
This method has the advantage that if a new version is available you can delete the old one in one single go and make a new one for JSGME
(this saves you undoing all changes first manually before enabling all new changes manually again)

1) Clean install + v1.2
2) Tutorial to Kiel, Green tick, Exit to windows.
3) jsgme + Mep file + mods.
4) Run game - New Campaign - Talk to the guy - Options - Settings ..etc..
My question is ... Do I need to use GenericPatcher after all of this?

Can someone help me, I'm having CTD's with Sobers Mega Mod. Well techinically they aren't CTD's because the Uplay acts like i exited the game normally.

You're right, I solved it. It was my fault.
Master question. May I setup every configuration mod?
Example:
- Real_Navigation works, but contacts are spotting on map.
- F1 help key: shows vanilla keys. Is that the way it has to be?

- I shot 4 torpedoes against a friendly ship. The torpedoes impact on the ship and then fly away a few meters in the opposite direction.

contacts are spotted on map. thats an ingame option . set your difficulty options while in the bumker .
Hello! :cool:
It's been a long time since my last visit at subsim, but last night I decided to reinstall SH5 and start fresh campaing. And it was SO awesome to find Sobers mod collection, saved tons of time and actually I wouldn't dare to try modsoup this BIG otherwise... :huh:
Now mods are finally installed and first startup with them is awaiting (hope I got everything right...), time to go sailing! :salute:
Thanks to Sober so much for the effort and ofcourse to all the other hardworking modders and subsim community!

I had the harbor pilot route me back to kiel from Skegerat passage . Because of the fog and the fact that with real navigation the navigator wasnt exactly sure of our pinpoint location i had to dock in the harbor . Wasnt going to risk finding the subpen . As it was i had to travel at dead slow . I could hear ships fog horns all around me . You can see the wharf on the right .
