Okay, played SH5 first mission yesterday, 1 hour. Look great only gotta a few bug ingame.

I already heard a couple of things about sh5, bugs etc.. any fixes available?

I think im gonna start with sh3 just and work my way up:)

I got sh3,4,5 via steam, does this cause any trouble when i want to install mods etc?

PM Gap or Sober on a 'small modding' issue with steam SHV if they do not see these posts and answer you directly; Don't worry though, lots of help here. Start with Fifi's mod list or Sober's( no preference implied ) for beginners and enjoy.:yeah:

Hey everyone. Played SH3 for ages, really enjoyed it. But SH5 kind of disappointed me, read the forums and modding sounded a little labour intensive. But here I am now and giving it a try:Kaleun_Binocular:

Hi guys. I'm also new to SH5 but I play an unmodded SH4 (apart from a playable battleship) and quite enjoy it ;)
I started off with a demo of SH, then got SH2 and loved it! Haven't played '3 in ages so I cant really remember it :P

I played '5 before and wasn't impressed, but this time around I'm giving it the patience it needs (or I need?), plus some nice mods hopefully. Gonna look for that mod list of Fifi's.

I signed up some time ago, but this is probably my first actual post on subsim..Can I get a round of applause please.haha:yeah:

I just wanted to give a shout out and many thanks to all the modders and community who are still working and still playing on SH 3-4-5.

Have always been a fan, however I first started from SH5, then down to SH4, and finally SH3...( moving backwards)...Silent hunter 3 with the GWX 3.0 mod is simply amazing. I always come on this site to check out the wolfpack modes, and its fun seeing the progression of these games. all that hard work and probably many thousands of hours in reprogramming parts of the game.......SH3 is old, but its a timeless beauty IMO....

So this is just me, giving some props to ALL the modders and community members....Also, its been years since Ive played a good multiplayer game on SH3-4-5. Im wondering if my multiplayer even works these days on my pc:O:.. i have nothing to reference my connection with:(so i dont know whos playing, or if you guys connect to specific IP addresses.

If I have added you as a friend on UBI soft for SH5, dont be alarmed and crash dive.... im just tryting to join some multiplay action....

Hey!

Found Silent Hunter 5 by coming across J2JonJeremy's videos. I can pretty much say I'm addicted now and can't wait for my downloads to finish so I can play this game!

A little bit about myself here. 14 year old, from Canada. Really into military history and the modern military. Taking French in school and plan to join the Canadian Forces when I am out of highschool.

Well, I hope to have a fun time here. See you all at sea! :)

Hi, my name is Phil, I'm 35 years old and I'm from Germany.
I started Sub simulations with the old "silent running" on Amiga back in the 90's. From the hunter series I started with SH4 and am now playing SH5. I am a fan of the movie "Das Boot" so I was very pleased to see after the american story in SH4 when the simulation returned into the atlantic ocean. ;-)

Just wanted to finally say hello. I discovered subsim quite by accident while researching underwater propulsion for a design project I was tinkering with around 2006. The site sucked me under when I discovered Silent Hunter. Even tho I have family who were U.S submariners in the '70s and submariners serving in Germany's Kriegsmarine in WWII, I had no interest in naval history in general or submarines in particular. After 12 years of living with no TV or computers at home (my work is all TV and computers) this site and the Silent Hunter sim ignited a passion that has developed into a new computer build just to get my hands on SH4, a home office covered in rare WWII OSS Pacific war maps, periscope photos of sinking merchant ships and the Gato class blueprints... plus, while wating for my computer build, I discovered the Revell Gato kit and the SS DACE 247 (SS Croaker 246 resides down the road in Buffalo, NY). My living room now boasts a 52" replica of the DACE I custom built from two Revell kits.
(if they work... my pic is of the model, my avitar is the actual DACE 247)
Anyway... I've just upgraded my computer and have started to re-load my sim programs and thought... "it's about time I actually participate on this site"... which has given me so much information and made SH5 a remarkable sim by all the amazingly talented modders. I'm blown away by the time and effort put in by TDW, Sober and so many others. So I say thanks to all involved for making this a fantastic site... good hunting.

Welcome aboard DaceDave:salute:thanks fer checkin' in every five years or so; I'm into a Revell type VIIC model myself and collect maps. You may want to check out any large Navigation/depth maps of navigable waters & areas near you as they are shortly being discontinued by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving(after 200 years?) on heavy paper. Just picked up one for the San Francisco Bay ($13.00) and am having it framed for my mancave wall...scarcity creates value and these will become so! They are serious works of art and the apogee of cartography!:Kaleun_Salute:

Welcome again Knorr; had the same problem myself; everything went black, white and purple after over a year of playing . Wound up reloading the game and am back to normal. Thanks, I got some help from Silent Steel it seems to work after reinstall and using jsgme. I tried silent fire, I guess that was the case of a graphic bug. / I was a hardrock drummer 24 years ago, but I play lots of different styles. In the 70s I played jazzrock. :salute:

Ahoy everyone.

I am Gertjan, 26 years old. and started roaming the pacific with SH1 back in 1997 or so.
after that I went to the cold Atlantic with SH2 and SH3.
I tried SH4 but I thought SH 3 was still better so I did not play it alot.
Meanwhile I was studying at the maritime school so the virtual u-boats where rusting away while i was at school or in the pub :Kaleun_Cheers:
Finished maritime school in 2010 and started my career as 3rd engineer with a dutch merchant shipping company.
when I was at home I played flight sim, dcs black shark, some train sims and shooters along SH3
Most time however went into my car and being on holidays(skiing, driving/flying/train-ing around europe)
I bought SH5 when it came out But I still thought that SH3+Grey wolves was working better so SH5 went in some drawer.

Until last night when i was going through the drawer and saw SH5 and looked on this site to see if there were already some mods out (i am very bad at modding).
So at the moment i am downloading the Sober all in one modpack and a fresh install of SH 5 is waiting.
So hopefully today or otherwise tomorrow i can take a brand new boat on some sea trials and start hunting.

Happy hunting, Gertjan.

Hello Mates,

I'm 69 years old and am just getting into the subsims. I have been in flight sims since about 2010 when I retired. I spent my career in law enforcement related work.
I have learned a lot about computers since then but yet have a lot to learn. It appears there is a wealth of knowledge to be shared here and I look forward to the education. I have Silent Hunter V and have been playing it about 2 months off and on. Learning about the torpedo aiming seems to be my biggest challenge.
I live in rural Connersville, Indiana, USA area.

Thanks for having me aboard:up::Kaleun_Periskop:

Well, to start I purchased Silent Hunter V through Steam. Had problems with the game. Couldn't do the campaigns, only patrols. Started looking at the forums and saw that this seems to be a regular problem for the Steam version. So I purchased it from Uplay. (Downloading it now.)

I'm 49. Retired to a work-related accident. I live in Lima, Peru because I can't afford to live in the States.
I played EVE Online for 7 years, then got into WoT, where I use the same name I have here.

I've alway loved playing Sub simms, have all of the other releases through Steam as well. But you can only play them for so long... I even tried one that was made by Janes or something like that... (Nuclear sub.) but it was way too complicated, as all their games are.

I did do the patrol running on the Steam version, up to getting the new sub. It wasn't until I was on the new sub that I figured out how to get access to the deck gun... lol. :har:

Started looking for a way to get to the actual missions and found this forum, but it seems that for the Steam Version, there aren't a lot o things that can be done. I figure that for less than $3, I'd get it from here so that I can try and use the mods that have been developed for it and see if it improves the game play.

Looking forward to fighting with a few of you in the future....

heya,

I just want to introduce myself.

My Name is Miro and i am new on subsim forum. Nice to meet you all.

I love video games since.....heh when i was born? Especially the simulation genre.

I've been playing Sub games since 1989 (Sub688, Das Boot, jane's 688(i) and the silent hunter series since SH1). Ofcourse not always fulltime. there are some good Tank sims, flight sims and space sims as well.:03:

Even that said, I Believe there is nothing better then Naval simulations and sincerly hope that one day some capital surface ship games come into existance. Who wouldn't want to command a Battleship or Destroyer?

I recently got the latest installement from ubisoft, Silent hunter V. And even though i never got the feel for SH 4, i am already in love with SH5. I couldn't resist to sneak into Scapa Flow and send some ships to the bottom and it was tense and amazing!!!! Harrr :arrgh!:

Anyways, sorry for the wall of text.

Hope to hear from you guys.

I have been remiss in coming back to this thread and acknowledging the "fix" promised by Jimbuna and thanking subsim and the 'powers that be' for straightening out my 'double avatar thing'.

To the new members who've come since I joined this forum and those who will follow... you are now a part of a truly amazing, positive and extremely active and productive site. Absolutely the very best I've ever seen and now very proud to be a part of after many years of just reading thru the posts.

Thanks

Ahoy All,
My name is Shad i am 40 years old and moved to Australia 12 years ago after leaving the Navy.I was an MT on the Henry M Jackson and loved my time in the navy, but had to leave for family and so here i am now a stay home dad with 2 kids :hmmm: not sure what i was thinking but happy all the same.....i have only played a few ship/flight sims but just got the full SH group off steam and have just started playing SH5 (later is always better right? lol)

i am into all music except rap and country but have a soft spot for metal and punk(old school that is).

i look forward to learning the ins and outs of the sim and be ready for me to ask many stupid sounding questions.

Hey there, I am a new captain from B.C Canada. It looks like I might be one of the younger ones here at the tender age of 24. I have loved simulation games since playing the original MFS on my grandpa's old computer. SH5 is my first subsim and at first I was surprised to see how avid the subsim community is. I discovered this website after realizing I had no idea how to captain a U-boat and SH5 has no real tutorials (learning how to press the "fire" button is .0000000001% of the game). If I had never found this community I would be a very frustrated deaf-mute. I will probably mostly lurk around for good mods but as I get acquainted with the community you can expect to see more posts from me.

Hi i'm Terry. Born in London 65 years ago and now live in Doncaster England.
I spent 11 years in the Royal Navy which is probably the reason that I only play naval games, I have played SH3 and am now awaiting delivery of SH5 which will arrive on Thursday or before I hope.
Showing my age I only like music from the 70s and 80s all the old stuff.
Hobbies are Wood turning, Golf and learning how to use this computer.
I hope that not all of my questions will not be stupid or unnecessary:).

Hey everyone my names Ty and I live in Pennsylvania in the good ole United States. I'm 18 and I'm in the United States Navy as a LS(SS) . I've been a fan of ships/boats for around 5 years and wanted to expand my knowledge on them so I found this site actually. I've learned a lot while being on here and I do have the mod enabler though for some odd reason none of my mods seem to activate within the game itself so if anyone could help me that would be awesome.

I listen to a lot of metal.. Like Atreyu, BMTH, ADTR, Dragonforce, but some days I listen to relaxing music.

I'm happy to be here guys !

Hey sometimes AC/DC does work!

But on a serious note I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks.. IE like the LOTR soundtrack was a wonderful piece done and The Last Samurai as well. Just that relaxing melody makes me calm in the mind while I sink merchant ships..I mean uh.. nothing.

Played SHIII, took a break. Finally got a high-performance PC, and got SR5 via Steam.

So, far, not really liking it. Feels clunky, and feels like they didn't maximize the potential of what they made.

We have a thread in the GT forum where people introduce themselves, post a pic and a little bio. I'm starting one here, because nothing helps a community more than openess and friendship. So, come on into the room, take off your hat, and put your boots on the table.

Most of you know me by now, but in short, I'm a native Texan, 50, located in Houston, and I like long walks in the moonlight. Have to consider myself a fan of Theodore Dreiser, Bruce Springsteen, and Wolf Peterson. Motorcycle rider since forever! Been playing computer games off and on since 1979. Blue Max was my first simulation.

It seems like SH5 needs lots of help as I can't seem to make some of the really important controls work. It really bums me out that I can't play SH3 on Windows 7... Enough about my problems.
A little about me you ask? I'm 60 and live in Martinez CA just north of San Francisco. What games do I play? Right now World of Tanks and Rise of Flight.
If you are not aware of ROF it is a WW1 flight sim and probably one of the best flight sims going. I'm talking a short hiatus from WOT as I'm now nearing the top tiers and going is quite tough right now. Music? big Yes fan. I also like Tempest (Celtic Rock) and Afro Celt Sound System. Check out David Arkenstone. Also like Classical, Aron Copeland is my favorite.
Anyways, glade to be aboard!
Sailor Joe

Welcome aboard Sailor Joe! If your by the C&C sugar plant on the south end of the Carquinez/ Yampas on Fridays, and see a Catalina 25 (with a badly patched mainsail) out there beating to quarters on a tight reach, in the main ship channel, give an Ahoy; I'll wave back...I'm just across the river at Glen Cove Marina.:Kaleun_Salute:

Finally bit the bullet guys and just took delivery of SH5 on a DVD from Amazon. After playing SH3 for more years than I want to count I figured it's time to try out this version. I've been lurking here for a looong time and finally took the plunge.

Great to see so many old familiar hands here who've helped me out so often in the past and who I'll turn to again this time around. Howdy Steve, Jim, TDW and all the rest of you old salts. Lots of new folks to get familiar with too. Great to see SH still alive and thriving.

Still too dumb to even ask the right questions but I'll be back once I get into the game a bit.

Cheers!

Hi again,
My name is Carl, my nickname lepic.
My first game was Frogger, but my first sim was Port of call on the Amiga500 if I remember. Since then, I played many game's on the C64 (commodore 64) and C64GS, Atari 8-bit, NES, SuperNES, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3, and since 1997/98 on PC. Still got my NES, N64, PS2 and PS3. But my real sim gaming was with Flight Sim 98, and the famous Battlefield 1942.
Not much a music player, but listen often ; The Kinks, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, Hendrix, The Who, Ramones, Sam & Dave, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden (can add more and more, but that is already too much). Oh and Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby and Bill Schallen, (any 1930's and 40's artist).

Well that's all.

Lepic.

The earliest subsim I remember using was Silent Service (by Microprose?) on a Commodore 64. I've been a member of subsim.com for a couple of years but haven't really posted before. In fact this is the first time I've been back in 2 years as I just rediscovered SH5 and I'm trying out some of the great mods here. Vanilla SH5 is pants but the mods are fantastic, thanks guys, I'm off to play some more!

Hey everyone, Rush here! First time delving I to the sub sim arena. Long time PC gamer. (18 years so far). Predominantly a military FPS shooter fan (long time lover of Day of Defeat when it was still a HL1 mod, Forgotten Hope 1&2, MOH:AA, operation flash point and then ARMA series) but recently feeling burnt out and generally let down.

I'm a huge history buff and have always been enthrall end by WW2. I spent hours daily watching the history channel and studied it in college (focused on Germany largely starting with pre and going through post war).

I work full time as a paramedic (that's where my handle comes from - in New York the slang term for an ambulance is "bus" and when things get sticky everyone asks for a "rush on the bus") and am going back to school and studying computer network security and forensics.

Right now in the middle of getting my copy of SH5 modded accordingly. It's a bit overwhelming . Starting to get the hang of it, just trying to nail down the UI mod that most suits me! Oh, and I'm still trying to figure out navigation, patrolling and firing solutions!

Thanks for the great community!

Gentlemen, good day to you
For a very long time now I’m using Steam for the flight simulator Cliffs of Dover . Now I have installed the Silent Hunter 5 gold edition dvd (with the updates) on my hard disk. Starting the game for the first time I had of course to identify myself to UPLAY. But after clicking on entry PLAYING, UPLAY led me to Steam and it turned out that I had to download also the Steam version of SH5. That would gave me two installs of the game and that seems a bit superfluous. Besides that some people on the Forum say the Steam version interferes with mods that’s why I would prefer the dvd-install.
How can I play the dvd version without intervention by Steam

I think all you need is to set up a new Uplay account? This will then be specific to SH5.

Hopefully in a few days I can add myself to the SH5 player list. After not touching a Silent Hunter title in a VERY long time (a few years; at least), I got the itch to set sail again. A few days ago I started watching Silent Hunter videos on YouTube. I finally reinstalled SH4 and downloaded TMO 2.5. I wanted to go back to the Atlantic so I thought I would bite the bullet and order SH5. I'm not sure if SH5 will work on my old computer, but Amazon had it for $8.50 so if it doesn't work I'm not out a big pile of money. If it don't work SH4 is still working great. I won't say it's like riding a bike, though, because I had to practically relearn SH4.

Hi guys. I'm new here. I have recently got my hands on SH5 and this looks like the place to be when it comes to modding or fixing some issues with the game.

I'm from Romania. I have studied journalism and I am reviewing games and software for a living. I've been a fan of subs since SH2, but my real action started with SH3.

Anyway, from what I've read in previous posts, I can see that you guy are a friendly lot and I look forward to sharing stories and tips.

Now to find the bugs section, 'cause the game really needs some fixes.

Hello everyone. I am back after… what 5-6 years? Back to read the forum, hope/want maybe back to the game. I tried the SH online last week, well… stopped after 2 days and drove over to SUBSIM to see how SH5 evolved. I am impressed !! I admire what people made of it. So enjoyable, challenging and yet playable !! I been playing WOT for 2 years.. but, this is not the same. Noth to replace the excitement and mood you gain with playing SH. I have my purchased copy of SH5 on the desk and I see the challenge of reading all the forums. I just don’t know where to begin with… J

Hello all. JIVA is my moniker. Don't recall if I intro myself a while back. Anyhow here I am possibly again. Been playing SH since the beginning. Best playing times where SH/DC a number of years ago. Playing a against a human player is always the best and makes each mission unique. I was so disappointed when Dc was never carried forward and lost interest in each succeeding version after the AI was so predictable. The coop WP options was fun for a while. Consequently I never even bothered with SH5. However after reading here I may get into it. My SH playing right now is with SHO. Very interesting but al the work is in managing upgrades to the boats. Still waiting again an hoping for DC to be included going forward. Yet I just love sub sims and SH is by far my most favorite. Just wondering if there still is anybody playing SH/DC. Well good hunting and hope to see you all in SH5 or SHO.
