Hi all,

First, best greetings to everyone, second please forgive me for my bad english... I was born in France and was a very lazy student! :hmmm: But no matter I'll trying to do my best to write some posts as correctly as possible.
Third, as a real Silent Hunter 3 4 and fan, I would like to write my owns gameplay mods (even there is already a lot of very good mods for SH3, 4 and 5) and I really think here I'm at the right place with the right guys.

So, so long and have a good day.

Hi,
I bought silent hunter on steam and then found the forum. Now I've got the DVD.
I want to say thanks for the brilliant effort put into this forum. Its been such a help in setting up the game.
I wish I had discovered it when I was playing SH3/4.
So again thanks for all the work you guys have put in.

So I recently purchased Silent Hunter 5 not too long ago and found this place shortly thereafter. Personally, the game's fun but it could easily be better. My interest in sub simulators began with Silent Service on NES and then with Grey Wolf for PC several years later.

My intersets and hobbies, aside from video games, involve drawing, making digital artwork, including 3D artwork, and reading history

Heya Subsim users. Nice to see the forum and all the SH5 modders are still this active.

I've been a SH player on and off (got really interested since SH3 GWX)... Lost interest in SH5 a few months after buying because of the unfinished product... although I did use a few great mods right from the start (many, many, MANY kudos to TDW... and of course all the other die-hard modders).

I have been watching Subsim now and then to see how all the modding went on... and yesterday I dusted off my copy of SH5, installed it and got some of the many mods installed. And... I'm hooked again...

Keep up the good work! :salute:

Hi everyone,
I am glad to be back with Silent Hunter agian after along time.
I started with sh2 and love sh3 but now I am trying out SH5 so I am still in the mod stage with it, seems to be many mods to get it correct but I have hope :-).
I had to create a new account today because I am not sure on my old subsim account it was along time ago so I did create a new one and hope they delete the other one and not this one lol.

G'gay all. I am a 60yr old retired firefighter from Australia and really appreciate all the hard work you guys do in keeping this site up and running. The blokes who do the modding are a very dedicated lot and I reckon we all owe them a great debt of gratitude.
Seeing as I now have much more time on my hands I am going to try and play Sh5 on realistic settings and learn how to use all the tools that are on offer.
Once again many thanks to all concerned with this site.

Pedro, 30, from Portugal.

Don't really do pictures.

I've played the SH series from the good old days of DOS although my decrepit 486 had a bit of a hard time running it back then (as well as my 13 year old brain had a hard time coming to grips with what was happening).

I used to have a carreer in banking, as an account manager, but that's gone now.

My favorite types of games are sims. I'm addicted to them. My friends think I'm ill. I did 688i, SSN-21, the SH series as mentioned, flight sims of all sorts (Flanker, IL-2, FS - 5.0 through FSX, Lock-On, DCS, et alii).

Just thought I'd drop by and introduce myself. Since I had registered here a long time ago but never got to actually socialize and since I found a new love for SH5 here it is... (also, I need to download Trevally's automated scripts :rotfl2: )

Cheers...

HI all

My name is Sergiusz i come from Poland and im 28 years old.

My adventure with submarines started when my parents told me that my
gradnfather brother was a sailor on the ORP Żbik submarine,( one of the 4 submarine in Poland In the WWII) in the begining of war.

And i fell an obligation since i was nine years old.

The subsim games i remember was silent service on amiga
and of course Silent Hunter I, and it was the best years for gaming, cause i was playing that game with my brother for a long time. ( i played all silent hunters sims exept SHIII)

I want to say that is nice to meet some other submarine "fans" from all over the world.

Best regards to all :)

Was a big gamer but nowadays more of a casual one, the only game I am playing is SH5.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say hi, I'm 34 and have been playing games since i was a about 8 years old.
Silent Hunter 5 will be my first Sub Sim i ordered the game on Amazon a few days ago and as i was reading the reviews i saw a lot of talk about this site and how passionate the community is here about the Silent Hunter franchise.

So while I'm waiting for delivery I'm researching some of the great looking mods on this site. :)

Hello All,

I've returned to Silent Hunter recently with SH4 OM and now I'm looking into SH5 again to see how the mods have changed it for the better. I was not too happy with it last time around and put it on the shelf and forgot about it. But after seeing some videos on youtube that made me say "hmmm, maybe I need to look at this again", well here I am ready to give it another shot.

Hi all!

I'm new to the forums, and I guess semi-new to the SH series. I played SH3 and SH4 back in the day, but I don't think my gaming tastes had matured enough to truly appreciate them at the time. I'm now 25, and what with the way the gaming industry is going, I really appreciate some more 'hardcore' and 'serious-fun' games - hence getting back into the SH series.

I've just picked up SH5 (from Steam), but will be getting a non-Steam version so I can sample some of the mods created by the very generous people on these forums. I have tremendous respect for you guys - I've done some modding (not on this scale) in other games, and I know how much effort it truly is.

I'll see you all around!

Thanks guys, I forgot to mention, recently I was working close to Port Burwell, ON and heard there was a sub there, so I took a quick detour down.

It is the HMCS Ojibwa and that is the first sub I've seen in real life. One of the attendants let me inside the fence so I could stand close and get a picture but I'm not sure how to post it here. Anyway the link is http://projectojibwa.ca/

Just standing beside it was amazing. I was impressed how large it was and the menacing presence!

Looking forward to returning this summer for the full tour :)

Needless to say as soon as I got home I started looking around to see if there was some submarine computer games, that let me to SH5 and then here!

Welcome aboard, Jerry! To post pictures you need to use a hosting website like ImageShack or PhotoBucket. They will tell you exactly how to upload pictures to their site and how to post them here. Both are easy and both are free.

Ahoy...

Just bought SH5 from amazon, new, for £3.70 :D

Only played SH3 & GWX previously.. now i just need to make a mod pie to play! This is daunting. Having not looked at SH5 before and not played 3 for some time the number of mods and how to use them is very daunting.

Any must do's & don't's greatly appreciated.

Hello all!

I am a 28 year old Norwegian who recently watched "Das Boot" and fell in love with it. Being a gamer all my life, I had to get my hands on some U-Boat simulators. Never really played one, so this is my first dive into this genre.

Bought the Steam Package, started with Silent Hunter 5. Played it a bit, but didn't find it too interesting. Started installing some mods, and started loving the heck out of it. Bought it again from Ubisoft when I found out the Steam one couldn't be patched. :o

Currently running sobers mod-list, with my own changes. Have perhaps played between 6-10 hours, and now 1 week just installing and adding mods :) *cough* and too many hours watching stoianm's tutorials on Youtube. Those are a bomb to watch!

Looking forward to joining the community!

Hello all, My name is Patrick McGuigan and I love subs and anything that is miltary that floats or dives and this web site witch is totally awsome but I'am not much for using the forums.I live in Fort Worth.TX but native to Montana.I am 55 years of age and have been playing video games since pong.I think I have (almost) every sub sim games there is and many navel stratagy games. My favorites are the Sh3 & Sh4 and am now playing Sh5 .Graphics I think are just stunning. Can't say I care to much for the interface but I'am learning to deal with it.I would like to say the modders on this site are just fantastic keep up the good work. Well Done!! All that being said Happy Hunting everyone!! :salute::lurk:315 Thank you gents for the warm welcome.:)

Gents:

I want to introduce myself to this forum. I am Roland Cataldo. I am a semi retired atty in South Florida. I loved playing SH3 as broken as it was.:<)

I am just getting intoSH5. I want to use the mods available created by incredibly talented people in this forum. I just found several videos on learning what to do and not do in adding mods. I hope to have a few intelligent questions after I try to digest as much as possible from these learning tools.

I am waiting for my hard copy of SH5. I tried installing patch 1.2 to the Gamestop/Uplay version and that was it for that game.... will not open:<!

I am looking at the following mods and would ask you for your opinions regarding order, conflict and version, they include:

Command Keys v1.03
Might Fine Crew Mod v1.2.1
Reworked Moral and Abilities v1.1
Dynamic Environment v2.1
Equipment Upgrades_Fix v 1.40 ( i am not sure if this must be installed last)
Depth Keeper Problem HB2.00
Depth Charge Water Disturbance v2.0
One ship, one torp ... vers 2
Torp SPeed Abiities fix for TDC
MCCD
New UIs v7.4.2
Setup.exe (64.9 mb fixing useless soundman stattion

I also would like to dl and install
Fx Fix v.0.21.1
IRAI v0.39
Open Horizon II
Parts Magul v3.01

On these latter four I am having a problem locating and dl'ing from referenced cite.

I also want to play around with the conf. file . We all know how the war at sea ended. What if the Germans uboats had the ability to go down to 275 meters in early 1943 and at speeds underwater at 13 knots+ and even if they had developed propellers with low cavitation capability?

Well my first mate (Shedevil) and first officer (Tuxcedo) ... two stray cats who wondered into my garage many years ago and where I go they go:<).....have arrived and are demanding use of the desk top so ... I hope to hear from you ....

Meanwhile I'm also a footballreferee, just loving this sport.

I got this game because it sounds nice to actually control a WW2 sub
And just sink every Allied ship who's passing by. (and hoping no destroyer gets me)

I want to thank the people
Who give this game more live, with all those very nice mods

Keep up the good work:up:

I served five years as a junior officer on a LA Class Attack Sub back at the end of the cold war. I bought SH5 recently and am looking forwards to refreshing my rusty TMA (Target Motion Analysis) skills.

I found this site looking for mods as the vanilla game has some major holes. One thing it gets right is that the life of a submariner is 99% boredom and 1% sheer terror. I'd love to be able to talk about my cold war stories but they are still highly classified and I don't relish a retirement at Fort Leavenworth.

Hello all, my name is Jim and I am currently living in Central Iowa, being a transplant from the Miami FL area. came back to take care of my elderly parents, and to start a new life after divorce. I was mostly into flightsims, but have always been interested in subs since I took a tour through a U-boat as a child in Chicago at a museum there. This is my first stab at a subsim, but I am very interested in doing so. It seems there are many dedicated modders here to take what appears to be a wonderful sim and make it 10 times the game it was originally sold as. I thank everyone here involved for their unselfish gifts to those of us that do not have the ability to give in this way. Once again thank you. I will digest as much information as possible and looking into the knowledge that appears to be overflowing from wonderful people. I often wonder what this world would be like if simmers were able to call the shots for governments. Im sure the real tools of war would gather dust in a short time... Anyway, thank everyone again for their input on this forum. Some day I too hope I can give back to those in need.

Im udo von d. from sunny Ca, I started with Red Baron, Aces of the deep, SHII, Panzer elite and the fabulous Lords of the Realm. Moved up to SHV with my father's day gift, windows seven computer with SHIV in the wings. Im an on-call security officer 24-7 so I kill time playing SHV. I'm a civil war reenactor and graduate history major. My house is essentially a military library and I live with a kindle when on duty to stay awake. My day in San Francisco a month ago was spent on a liberty ship, a Baleo class sub from WWII and after rushing out to the Golden Gate bridge and huffing my way up to the parapet of Fort Point (3Levels) to witness the battleship Iowa being towed to her new museum berth in southern California. A year ago I toured an Elizabeth class battle ship on the Thames River and visited the Imperial War Museum in London with its gigantic guns from HMS Resolution and HMS Ramilles. Don't get hit with those! Having been in Chicago many times, I visited the tech museum and its type IX Uboat. I recently read the book by the german crewman who was captured with the boat an spent his last years as a docent at the exhibit... so one learns best from the mistakes of others-snorkel well and stay decks awash for quick dives!

Thanks for the welcome, its seems I'm now a nub! Just ended a patrol in the Grimsby estuary in heavy overcast: 4 Rawalpindis and five tankers and back to Heligoland for a refit. Used nearly all my eels and all of my deck gun ammo. The kreigsmarine should allow us to select our gun ammo as I prefer the HE to the armor piercing as tankers take too many eels but go much more cheaply with the gun: both Cimarrons and the Rangers. And it saves 10000 marks for the fatherland!

had interesting experience in Norway scenario. picked up annoying shadow escort at mouth of Narvikfjord. normally I wait till night then surface and run at top speed to elude. it DIDNT work this time nor could I stealth him for a shot he as stayed out of reach at all times. I finally ran at flank speed to Heligoland -all the way down the Norwegan coast with him shadowing all the way. I knew the destroyers on station around my refit would drive him off for me. I dove approx. 25 miles of Heligoland and crept in to refit and the enemy vessal had gone. thank you surface fleet.:arrgh!:

Hello you old sea dogs,
My name is Don and played SH back when it was on DOS and they gave you a grid map to hunt your targets. I purchased and played SH III but was not impressed. Now, Looking at what this group has done to “fix” another company’s less-than-good game has given me hope that maybe this game will work out.
About me… I am old enough to remember a time BEFORE MTV, Commodore 64 was my first computer, have flown in a B52, met my wife (of 31 years) in Texas. Live in Atlanta GA. Work for SAP (a German company) and have just finished my “Man Cave”, the wife said I could have one. Have 2 kids, one in College and then there is Michelle my Special one. And of course there’s Max my GSD from Germany, also known as the Bad Ass of the house.
So I just purchased the game via Steam, and have read in here that some of the patches and mods will not work with a Steam game. There was 101 pages to that thread, is that still the case?

I'm a system engeneer trying to learn programming and a casual gamer and fulltime dad. I played the usual suspects in naval games, but never got myself to learn enough about it to manually target, plot courses, etc. .. so without heavy cheating I sucked :p With heacy cheating, the games suck.

Now I'm trying to remedy that .. just for fun sake. Dunno if it will stick .. perhaps I'll be around for a little while and then gone again, but who knows :)

Also, just so y'all know: Sobel's modpack got me to donate within a day. Looking forward to the installation hangover :p

Good morning all, my name is Tiffany. I'm 25 years old and currently working at a hotel somewhere in the state of Ohio of the U.S.A. I'm a huge history buff and especially anything dealing with ww2. I just recently bought/built a new computer and can handle SH5 on max settings (my last puter could not and played sh3 instead great fun was still had though!). Now that I have new eye candy I hope to fix some gameplay issues for a new experiance. So ahoy to all of my new sea mates and good hunting!

Hi all, I'm 44 and live in the UK. I am a senior manager for a retail company and I've been playing sub sims since Silent Service on the C64! I have had all the SH series except the first one and love them all, although I only now have SH4 and 5. I was one of the lucky few to get hold of the limited collector's edition of SH4 in the metal tin! I also play Sub Command and Dangerous Waters, and enjoy flight sims, both combat and civilian. I am currently enjoying a new campaign with the updated OHII 2.2 version.:)

Ahoy submariners.

I have played some SH3 in the past and have been wanting to play again. I recently bought a new laptop and thought I'd give SH5 a try.
So far its been confusing to get it started with some mods. I have a short modlist that crashes rarely. Loving it.
I just started playing with manual TDC. Not much success yet I hit the back collum of a convoy by mistake... Hey I'll take it!! :P
Thnx to the modders and other people responsible for having this site. Also for the tutorials I see on yt.

Ps: Does anyone know how I can make my navigation tools "larger/easier to read" ? (what mod would that be?)

Hello lads,

I have been playing sub games off and on since Silent Service on my Apple IIe when I was like 8. God I am feeling old. I played 688 Attack Sub, and then didn't play another sub game until SH4 (yes I missed out on SH3!?!)

I recently bought SH5 on a whim, and it was so utterly unfinished that I nearly just uninstalled it. But the engine had potential. I so wanted to walk around my sub inside a GOOD sub simulator! So I started looking for modding resources, and I found this cozy little place :)

I am still hesitant about this endeavour. I was a hardcore IL-2 player for many years. If you played IL-2 online back in the day you might know me. Tag was Lodestone, and I was one of the creators of Skies~of~Valor, a server I am still very proud of despite not being directly involved anymore. IL-2 sucked so much time out of my life. It was another solid engine wrapped in an unfinished game. Once the exe was cracked about six years back it became mod-a-palooza. I'm sure some of you know what I am talking about. Soon I found myself, in addition to running a server and researching for mission building, also hip-deep in making mods, mod packs, mod manuals, etc, etc. The game became so much better. It bloomed. It was a heady time. Il-2's 'happy time' ;) I salivate-slash-fear for the fun-slash-huge-time-commitment looming on the horizon what with the imminent release of 777s reboot of IL-2. I is scared. At least it looks like it will be brilliant and won't require mods to complete the experience.

So now here I sit at the beginning of another adventure modding a lump of coal into a diamond. Like I said before I am hesitant, but have chosen to give it a go nonetheless. Who needs sleep anyway? I`ll sleep when I`m dead.

This site is what sold me on taking the plunge. I am so delighted to have found what seems to be a helpful, positive modding community for this game! I have already experienced the joy of several HUGE grins thanks to the mods here on Subsim. Thank you to all of you, from the top mod gods, all the way down to the friendly people answering questions in the forum here. I know what kind of commitment and love it takes to do what you do. I hope you know how much interlopers like me appreciate the work you have all done for not just yourselves, but us too.

Salute, meine Herren!

Hello all,

My name is Jimmy, 33 years old, system admin and from Belgium.

I'm a member since 2007 but never posted on the forums, i'm playing silent hunter since version 3 came out.

Like many of you i tried Sh5 when it came out but it was a major disappointment since i had many problems with the campaign missions.
I play different game genres with a preference for rts and simulators, for the moment i play a lot of Wargame Airland Battle.

I really like complexity, challenge and depth in my games, stuff most modern games lack

With all the mods for Sh5 available the game experience got a major boost, vanilla had so much potential but clearly lacked adequate execution.
Anyway, pleasure to be here, big thanks to the admin and the modding crowd on these forums!

Cu guys

Since i'm still downloading mods from here, I thought lets be polite and introduce myself.
I played this game for a while without the patch (1.2), I simply liked plotting intercept courses and calculating torpedo runs.
Later I bought the game on Steam, also nice, but the quality of the game really improves with the mods of TDW, Trevally and many others.
The hydrophone-bug however, really, really started to annoy me, so I shelved the game for a year or so and today I bought the game again, on a disc this time!!

Furthermore, I also downloaded under the name Captain Ortega a long time ago, but PolicyFriend seemed to be the name my computer remembered. And I stole the nick PlateInFrontOfHead to use in World of Tanks. I tried to sign up with it before I remembered the famous captain of The Snorks, or my pc remembered my first nick.

Hi Guys,

My first post on this site for a few years (couldn't remember my log in details/email from my previous visits!)

I used to play SH3 ages ago, with the excellent GW expansion and loved it.

I briefly tried SH4, wasn't that impressed (although never got round to adding mods or perservering with the game admittedl) and was disappointed about all the negative SH5 reviews. I never got round to re-installing SH3 plus GW, but it was on my to-do list.

At the end of last week, I remembered this site and did some research on mods, went out and bought SH5, spent the whole weekend downloading mods and trying to get a stable mod set-up, and finally tested it last night.

OMG! The work that all of you mod developers do is simply outstanding and blew me away last night as I sailed out of Kiel (with the automated harbour pilot) and tried to figure out how Real Nav works (still working on that lol). Now all I need to do is try and suss out how to kill ships!

I'd like to specifically mention (in no particular order) Trevally, TheDarkWraith, Fifi, sober, gap, Manos, Stormy, as most of the mods I use (using Fifi's mod list) are from these guys. A massive salute to goes to Nealfor Subsim itself!:salute:

But thankyou SO much to ALL mod devs for all the work and time you guys put into developing, uploading, publishing and updating these mods. For people like me it's SO appreciated.

Thankyou Subsim ! :subsim:

Best wishes, Ghost

Trevally.
