Ahoy fellow Kaleuns :salute:
Let me introduce myself as a Silent Hunter player in a more detailed way.
My name is Eric , I was born and do still live in a small town on the German north sea cost. Im 17 years old and started playing subsims pretty early , today i still find myself playing Silent Hunter 5 on a (almost) daily basis. With so many great mods provided by this great website the game never ceases to amaze me.
Yours
Eric

Hi all,

Fell in love with subsims as a kid when I got my first taste of Silent Service. Had to take some time to de-tox after SH3 but now I'm ready to prowl the Atlantic once again. Tried SH4 but the pacific just wasn't doing it for me so I'm ready to give SH5 a run.
Knowing Silent Hunters history I fully expect this game to be barely functional at best. I would like to start small with the modding at first and just make the game playable to start before getting crazy. When it comes to this title patience is key.

Good hunting.

Hi all...

Total beginner here. I've always loved sub movies and I recently started playing SH5. I messed with SH4 a few years ago, but felt... out of my depth. :har: Anyway, I love modding anything I can. I am an avid target shooter and love to mod my rifles and I reload my own ammo. Tinkering comes natural. So here I am at the heart of tinkering for SH5. I had the darkwraith mod, and after getting JSGME and a couple other things, I've been blocked from downloading. Hope that lifts soon.

Question... does playing with headphones on make the sonar station sound better?

Ahoy :salute:

I'm new to sub sims. Played for a short time on SHO before losing interest because they abandoned it. Just recently picked up SH5 on sale (who can resist broadening their horizons for just $2.50?).

First and foremost I'd like to thank all of the modders for their hard work in making the game playable. Without you it would be collecting dust like so many lesser titles.

Although I've never been particularly invested (or good) with study sims, I feel the marketplace is stale without them. I long for the days when you could buy a game off of the shelf and open the box to discover many goodies like full manuals, etc.. Ah well, time moves on I guess.

At any rate, while I'm here, I may as well ask. It would be of great help to me if someone could possibly link me to a tutorial for the TDC as found in TDW's New UI mod. I currently have Sober's mega mod list installed as recommended by a friend, but I am at a loss as to how to use the TDC and that friend is not available to assist me. I've had no luck with the search function (perhaps it is me?). Thanks in advance for the welcome and assistance. :salute:

I started playing sub simulations with Silent Service on NES, I've played SH2,3 GWX,4,5 and Online. I'm currently playing SH5 with Wolves of Steel. SH3 GWX is probably the best, I really like the crew management aspect, and customizing a sub's equipment is also a plus.

If you joined this forum a long time ago, and you've never posted or have not posted in a long time (over a year), this could shut off downloads for you. Solution: make a post somewhere in the forum. This post will be placed in the moderation que, and after 24 hours or less the forum will automatically enable downloads for you again. We have to do this to prevent spammers from joining, waiting a few months and then bombarding the forum with ads for Vie-gra, etc.

When you sign up to Subsim, we encourage you to be an active member of the forum community. That means making at least 1 post and introduce yourself. You, you're an interesting guy--you like submarine games, history, and COMPUTERS. Make a post, we want you to be part of the Subsim crowd! :/\\!!

The name's Jared but I go by Godit, the callsign I "earned" in the Air Force as a Navigator. I live on the east coast and am no longer active duty but still very connected to the military.

I played SH3 - GWX for a while years ago and for some reason feel the urge to get back into the SubSim world.

I enjoy the challenge of high realism and particularly like the immersion that comes with using real world tools to use for in game solutions. For example I made my own whizz wheel for SH3 that was based on the EA-6B flight computer I learned to use in the Air Force.

Currently I'm looking for a good printable maneuvering board to use with SH5. I think the in game map tools are great, but putting pencil to paper for me is even better.

I've never done any multiplayer but I'm very curious how that feels and would love to give it a try sometime.

See you out in the big blue!

With all the crying I have been doing about MOD's I forgot to intro myself. My name is Sunday and I live in Bakersfield CA. I have been playing the Sub sims for about 4 months, and have about 1578 hrs on file. Wow reading that I just noticed I have no life lol, I purchased SH 3,4,and 5 from steam then started hearing about Subsim on steam posts. So I bought the disk game and Here I am. I am 51 and in the Medical field, Served in 2 branches of the military and love to ride my Harley when I get the chance. I am happy to see there are quite a few people my age playing this sim. I am happy to be here, and look forward to getting to know like minded people that love Subs and the action they bring.:rotfl2:

Hello there!

I'm very happy I finally decided to register here! This community is something I was looking for for some time.

I'm 29 years old freelance 2D graphic designer and concept artist. I create concept art for computer games (social at the moment), but slowly heading to AAA productions (learning 3d as well).

Thanks for creating this great community,

Hello all! I used to play the heck out of Aces of the Deep back in the day and loved it and have always had a warm spot for sub sims after that. I have one of the earlier SH copies and now have come full circle to play SH5 for a bit... with the patches and mods it works great and I can sometimes work in a little game time here and there; many fun times from AotD have 'surfaced' again now. Thanks to all the hard work modding this game!

Hi guys, I spent many hours on SH3 some years ago, first with GWX3 and then mostly with MEG3 megamods, enjoying it A LOT, and now I'm learning to play SH5 with "Wolfes From The Deep" megamod on a Steam version of the game (and I can confirm that this method (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2228927&postcount=125) works with TDW patcher :yeah:).

This forum is a great resource and a nice reading and I send my thanks to all of you for your work and answers, because I could patch, mod & enjoy this beautiful game simply reading 'em.

Hello!

Completely new player here!
Never played a subsim before, and only recently got very interested in sim-games. I always loved complicated games (Dwarf Fortress mostly, Dominions 4), and started playing War Thunder about 2 years ago.

I quickly grew tired of arcade mode and wanted to try full simulation battles, but the queues were so long and none of my friends were interested. Also I learned that there's better simulators than WT, so I turned to DCS-world.
Still trying to get a grip on the A10-C (reading the manual atm), and also reading on how to read every dial an airplane can have through X-plane.

I played a bit of Train-simulator, but found it not to my liking, as there is not so much of a personal 'challenge' in it. It's definitely relaxing though.

And now I'm here! Trying out submarine simulations! In real life I'm a post-doctoral researcher working at Helsinki University (Finland) on social immunity (that is...how do social creatures such as ants work together in order to get rid of the enormous amount of diseases that want to attack them).

I'm not going to be much of a regular (leaving to Paris in an hour, then to Stockholm to visit girlfriend, then to Netherlands to visit parents for Christmas and straight up to South-Africa for fieldwork, after which I have about 2 months before I have to leave for 3 months of Fieldwork in eastern Finland again). Probably sounds fun, and it is, but it's a whole lotta stress, sometimes it's nice to just be home! :o

Anyway, enough of my rambling! Looking forward to play more. Already thanks for the help I got in the topics I created. Expect many more! I guess my researcher's blood makes me want to ask things until I understand things 110% :P

Happy meeting you all!

Ahoy mates

I've played SH3+GWX quite for a long time, then stopped (partly because of RL intruding in my career, partly bc SH3 grew somewhat boring after hundred of hours).

Now, after more than a couple of years, I decided to give a try to the new version, mostly because I want to try something different and to stay in the naval simulations (I am a navy buff). Everything is new to me, so expect many newbie questions.

Hello Everyone of Subsim! My name is Jaspal in real life but I prefer if you call me by SilentHunts or 505Northman. Why I say 505Northman because it's my youtube channel! Just search the name in and there you go! I like to play Simulation games a lot and building games too. Sometimes I like to play fps and such but not mainstream ones. I have about 100 games on steam now which is a big milestone.

I love history, games, and especially WAR! Mainly war as WWI and WWII and 18/19th century warfare! I hope to become a helpful person on Subsim helping out people and making my own mods!

Hi, im Ruben from Belgium , and newto the silent hunter series(discovered them on steam so thats the one im running), and tbh, by missing out the previous SH games, i think SH5 isnt that bad... great looking graphics, and mods only make it better.
Only problem i have is im kinda new to the modding part... been reading alot, trying out some things , even got some 'obvious' mods running.(flags/interior,...)
Still, i want to get a better experience out of it...
When adding more mods (with JSGME) i get alot of 'Conflicts'. Now im not sure, is it normal so can i skip them, or does it mean the mod wont work? i skip the conflics and game seems to be running fine, but not sure if all mods are working like they should... I read its important the order u install them, but how do you know if u keep getting conflicts?
I hope someone can point me in the right direction :)
Thanks in advance
Oh, and if someone would be so kind to mention a mod u DEF need (like a fix on some bugs), im happy to know! (remember i use steam and can apply the patch (i think, read it somewhere))

Can't remember when I last played SHV, but I recall that the need to be online to play in single player mode had just been removed by UbiSoft. I have always loved this game and had it heavily modded to increase realism leaning to simulation rather than gaming. While I don't smell of that strange mix of diesel, rancid sweat, seawater and sauerkraut I do enjoy the challenge of finding and fixing targets with manual TDC.

I have moved my simulations to a new computer so my original mods are seriously out of date. I have been recently dallying with "Naval Action" in beta and can recommend it, but the only sensors you have are a spyglass and pennants in the wind.

It is great to be back! :subsim:

Been into SH since I first got SH4. Was pretty active here in the forums starting in around 2008 and was known as Doenitz2008 back then. Just got SH5 and installed it last night played til 6:30 am ..... I'm based in the Philippines now, up near the Lingayen Gulf about 3 kilometers away from Hundred Islands, and about 30 km away from the beaches that the Japs hit in WWII when they invaded the Philippines. I do a lot of diving here in the beautifully clear waters of the South China Sea, the Sea of Bohol, and other places in S.E. Asia. Do a lot of motorcycling on my Super Tenere especially up near the Cordillera mountain range in Northern Luzon. Looking forward to getting back into the community....

Cheers...

I was using RSRD if I recall, and some really cool radio mods. etc... so if anyone can point me in the right direction, much obliged...

Hey all, My friends either call me Boats or Gator, probably because I retired in 1996 as a Chief Bosun's Mate, having had the honor to have served almost my entire career (24 years) in the Amphibs (affectionately known as the Gator Navy, thus 'Gator'). I'm from Texas, live in a small town not far from San Antonio.

My introduction to Naval Sims in general was Fletcher Pratt and computer-bused Naval/Sub Sims in particular, was SH2/Destroyer Command (I much prefered the latter to the former). Since then, I've kept up with the SH franchise (including the disappointing SHO) and branched out into a number of other WW2 lines: Hearts of Iron, WW2OL, Navyfield (1, haven't tried 2 yet) as well as keeping abreast of my first love in wargaming: Napoleonics and ACW.

I look forward to a great time here, though I probably won't be as active here as most; I've quite a few irons in the fire atm. But, I will answer emails, PMs and check in from time to time.

Now, to splice the mainbrace.

Gator~~

Well, I already posted my problems and woes here, but maybe I should introduce myself properly. I'm from Croatia and basically love all kinds of simulation games. I mostly do simracing (rFactor, Race07, used to play GTR2 for a long time), but I like any and all kinds of simulation games. Trains, military, submarine, etc.

Hello all, I too have been away for awhile. Relocated to Hawaii about six months ago, so it took awhile to get around to unpacking and getting my sim computer back up and running. Then, as soon as I did that I decided it was time to upgrade the CPU, MB and RAM, so more time gone by reinstalling stuff. As it was, I completely reinstalled SH5 and so I started fresh with WoS and Dragons Addon and so far, having a ball! Once again, as has been said by many, thanks for all the work the modders have done making the Silent Hunter games come truly alive:yeah:
