So I've heard so much praise for SH4 lately that I decided to reinstall it and give it a more serious try. While it's certainly an enjoyable game despite... a couple things (why does the ******* stopwatch pop up when I go past TC 512), I have to say I had no idea I would miss the "walk around in your sub" feature as much as I do.

After getting used to climbing up and down the ladders in the conning tower, it just feels so silly to hit F3 and magically find yourself safe down in the command room when under attack. I hit U and I'm instantly teleported to the UZO (or whatever it was called in the Silent Service). I miss coming under fire in SH5 and having to dive down the ladder as shells whistle past and the enemy destroyer bears down on my sub at full steam.

ETA: for how long has the crew been killable? Or are they asleep?

Once I can play SH5 I'm sure I will, and have fun doing it. People who praise the older games want something that lets them have what they consider a complete experience. People who praise SH5 like all the new things that it brings to the table.

Oh, and a question: Are the engines a lot louder in the the engine room than the rest of the boat?

Not a lot of screenshots to capture it but a lot of pausing (Backspace) when hearing thunder until I got a couple. :DL

In my experience when starting a new campaign, as soon as you start the first patrol go ahead and save and restart from that save point which your mods are enabled at. For some reason that always seems to get things rolling right. :)

With the Sun Behind an object shadows will Fan out like this:up: remember the Sun is some 93bn miles away ????

The Stock SH5 Dynamic Shadows are Blurred and this are so far my modified setting for Dynamic Shadows , I only tweaked the Exterior and Bridge settings , probably also the interior settings need modification , I cannot tell you this are the Most Perfect settings because I am not a expert

Question for anyone: does SH5 have a "save replay" option like in SH4? You could then load Fraps or DivX video during the replay which lets you concentrate on the manuevers during the attack, get the screens or videos afterwards.

That's likely the problem for me... 4870 overclocked but your previous settings were killing my fps with the HighResolution=12000

I know that you have a lot higherend card than I do so that's likely what I'm running into trouble with. :)

In SH5 I've seen that Ark Royal uses hull from Illustrious, but awhile ago I've seen on gamestar.de some pictures of SH5 units and on one of them was Ark Royal with it's own 3d model.
Does anybody knows something about this?

The real 3d model of Ark royal and the Queen Mary are unlockably on U-Play. To unklock them you must complete certain sections of the campaign and earn points which you can then spend on missions that include the 3d models. Alternatively Assasins Creed 2 gives you tons of credits much more easily which can be used to "buy" the missions etc. To go to U-play just click on its name in the main menu of SHV, if you have played SHV for any length of time you will already have some credits.

This ship followed me at about 6km behind from Gibraltar to Ibiza, always keeping about the same distance and moving away if I turned towards it. I finally got their interest after a lucky long shot from the deck gun caused some damage. They came second in the resulting contest!

That's definitely one way to deal with tailgaters. Nice screens Talyllyn. I've read other people's accounts of being trailed by destroyers no matter how hard you try to shake them and it just happened to me last night. If you save and reload it should fix the problem.

Same place for SH5. It will be in the root directory, but they might be hard to find. Just sort your folder by file type and they'll group together.

I saw it a long time ago and is the only machinima clip on YT about SH5. But is just a dream as I done that on surface, no need to dive :( I already sunk millions of tons in Scapa without being detected or bothered by AI. Maybe that was the dev team dream about SH5, but the reality is way more painful. This is what makes me to be so angry on Ubi, they ruined such a great game/sim :((

yes it's not that because the screen haze goes away when I go into the interior of the sub. It's only in external view--very annoying.

With some of the stock single missions of SH5 , I also get a sort of disgusting fog all over the place , may be the developers put such fog to try to hide the graphic bugs , the images posted with my previous post are from the mission generated with the diesel smoke mod , you can go to the mod forum and search for this mission in the diesel smoke mod thread, such mod come together with a test mission to try the smoke mod , and this mission dont have fog

I took some screenshots but photo viewer or paint.net cannot open them and I can't convert to jpg or view them. a google search does not present an easy or apparent solution. any suggestions are appreciated. seems like sh5 should look better on my ATI 4850-I do have a relatively cheap asus LCD monitor that may have something to do with it as well.
That's why I use PhotoBucket. They convert everything to .jpeg automatically.

thanks for the suggestions- I tried irfanview and it opened the bmp images but they were stretched and in black and white for some reason. From what other people are telling me it sounds like the haze I'm seeing is supposed to be fog, and some missions have it and others don't. I did play one sitting where the haze seemed to be absent and things looked pretty good (though still not as crisp as some of the screenshots I see on here).

I had no time to see this detail as this bomber gave me a hard time to get him down. Was cool to see him struggling for a very long time to stay in the air ... so yeah, aircrafts attack and sometimes they do it good.
