Yea i gotta break that habbit of biting nails,lmao. I have a few questions though,

1. how do i get rid of the auto save in game
2. how do i get rid of that annoying console in the middle? i don't mind the mission reports but those other icons are arg!

3. What is the best way to aim Torpedo's? every time i have lined up a shot it would either completely miss or not go off when they should. Even with a stern shot but by then i'm out of ammo! :/\\!!:/\\!! very annoying when i have to keep getting kills with the deck gun.

Stumbled across two British Submarines in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.. After I put a torpedo into one of them, this one dived to periscope depth.. I lured him back on top of the water by surfacing and turning away like I had given up the hunt...

When he surfaced again, it was my turn to go to periscope depth to await his move.. He turned towards my U-Boat to try to hunt me down, but just as he passed me at 500 meters, I got him too with my stern torpedo..

Wow Volkier never seen that before, A couple of fish could take out alot when they are grouped so close together like that.

The taskforce has taken a sudden turn North East, which ironically placed it in a direct intercept course with it's impeding doom.... well.... hopefully 12-14 ships if everything goes to plan.

I tried to catch all of them in a screenshot, but that appears to be harder than one would think...

Will have to leave the engagement until after work. My plan is to use the same tactics that I've been using to bring down convoys of this size; get in right in the middle of all of them after waiting out the escorts at depth, then use one torpedo per ship aiming for the engine and the prop disabling it (if it doesn't sink in one hit). Reload and repeat, while hiding under one of the merchants from the escorts, using the above ship's engine to mask my own, and as a 'shield' that stops the destroyers getting above me.

Once I'm out of torpedoes, and have ships disabled in the water, it is merely a matter of time as I either dive and sneak out of visual range, where I can surface, recharge my batteries, reload the two torpedoes from the deck, and wait until nightfall when I can get in cannon range to pick off the crippled ships. The two torpedoes now reloaded from the deck are saved for whichever escorts have decided to stick around for protection.

Bit of rig info, still running x58 mobo so slightly less fps than on latest boards ;) but still amazing from xfired 4890's

i7 920 DO @ 4.2 watercooled loop with gpu
r9 290x ek block watercooled loop with cpu (oc'ed 1250/1500 no need for added voltage, modified stock bios (i love editing gpu bios's and flashing gpu's :D )
12gb ram @ 1600 9,9,9,27,36,2 @1.68v (notch over stock)
SSD and 3 large assorted Hdd's
W7 Ultimate using x64 flavour
G15 kb
MX518 mouse
Brd burner

Assorted peripherals chewed up by puppy rottweilers :(

So to fps, From memory

Bunker intial game load 40's to high 50's (this so low shocked me but shadows/rays etc zap fps)
Leaving bunker on tower from mid 20's to 40's

When i restart career i'mm make note of each harbour (still playing with mods so new career soon enough)

At sea away from land, well, it will take anything thrown at her, the fx update zoomed in is just amazing to see so smoothly now, don't even know fps as i don't bother now running so smooth in fz lol

If you want to oc that gpu it's easy enough, and if you're into bios flashing i can help you on your way (if you got asus you're most of way there, as their bios well some for sure come with voltage control :) )

So when new career starts, i'll write down all fps for ref

I can run it fine with this gpu and all the mods, it's the AA and shadows on highest etc that slow me down, not enough to cause me problems though

Still got plenty oc oc'ing headroom left in this gpu, as i need i'll keep raising the oc on her

I had taken out a couple of lonely merchants in the East, and so I started heading westbound. Once arrived at patrol area, there was just nothing to be seen anywhere.. Nothing.. Nada.. I patrolled this remote area for 22 days, and then..... New contact!

Imagine my excitement when checking out the stats of this massive beast :rotfl2: I believe she was around 310 meters long, weighing in at around 81.000 tons :arrgh!:

about Shadow Improvement Mod , I can't put more than this for shadows :

LowResolution=5000
HighResolution=5000

and the result is not good , juste a little better than stock

This whole attack was a big blunder on my part, because in order to get to good firing position I had to run with deck awash for a few minutes. I got strafed by a plane (minor damage) and the target ship spotted me, fired innacurately and started zig-zaging. I decided to go flank speed, submerged, to get as close as I can to minimize his chances of avoiding the torpedoes. I fired two at previously measured speed (7 or 8 knts), and the third one with higher speed (10 knts)

So, as you can clearly imagine, I was so furious about the duds, that I stopped the recording.
Then the third torpedo hit scoring a crit and sinking the ship on the spot.

If anyone hasn't tried SweetFX yet I came across this version called ReShade, aka SweetFX 2. Seems to be a lot easier to install and setup and has been running fine on on SH3-4-5.

I detected a Polish merchant but was going to just continue on to Kiel. The problem was, heavy fog. I didn't feel like dealing with the frustration of not being able to get eyes on and he was already moving away according to my hydrophone man. I decided "What the hell!?", let's put that practice to the test.

I re-submerged, re-acquired the contact, and proceeded to use the first 3 bearings of the 4-bearings method so that I could determine his course. He was moving away, so I didn't want to take the time to relocate to get the 4th for cross bearing and with only 5 minute intervals I would've been really pressed. I determined his course, had his speed estimated as slow so I chose 7 knots as target speed, and used the Attack Disk to get a 10 knot intercept. Surfaced and ran towards with no more excursions below to check whether he changed course.

Ran it at 1x TC since I didn't know what his distance was, and didn't want to risk missing the contact.

40 minutes later, appearing rather largely out of the fog, the deck gun crew got some target practice, and we all got some tonnage. :D Glorious!

Upload your images to your own account, for example TinyPic and then copy and past your image IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards into your thread here in the forum. Try to keep the image size small otherwise it takes forever to load when looking at the thread. The SH5 screenshots are around 6 MB in .bmp format and the one posted below is compressed to 19.6 KB in .jpg format.

n order to make a mini series from one mission in the game Silent hunter 5 I am playing I need to experiment with shots and using the free moving camera within the game. The Pilot I was working on was 4:3 due to the fact I have a 1280x1024 screen. Might redo that entirely. So now I downsampled my screen to 1920x725 as well as 1280x720 to see what worked best and tested some free camera shots. I made a short video (showreel) out of the test shots.


Hope you like the shots and angles. I know they could be better but well, they are test shots for a reason.

The music rights for the Das Boot music are Klaus Doldinger's and remain his. I thank him for his great score. The spn Kalimba is by mr. scruff who made that song as sample music for Windows 7 (Creative Commons license invoked since i am not planning to earn money with my video's)

Enroute to the patrol area in the "Atlantic Air Gap", the TC dropped to 1. I checked the log and then I noticed the "shallow waters" icon flashing. Wondering
why that icon would be flashing in the middle of the ocean, I climbed up to the bridge to be presented with this sight! The only deserted island in the
middle of nowhere and I was about to run aground on it! :oops: It's situated about 150 Klm NbW of Loch Ewe in the waters North of Scotland and is not visible
on the map unless you zoom right in. Back Emergency saved the day and I didn't have to sit out the remainder of the war on a small island with 43 blokes
and no women! :D

OMG Kevin ! Never make lunch without pausing the game. It is not like when I fly my He-111 in IL2 CLOD on ridiculously long stints and strange routes to avoid those Spits and Hurries where I can autopilot for hours and at times even going out to get groceries ;)

March 1st, 1945. Type VIIC U-28 leaves Bergen, Norway for a late war patrol in the North Sea. The captain already had some 400 000 GRT on his success record, but the latest months have been tough and he only sank some 35 000 GRT during his last patrol.
After leaving port and whilst plotting a course through the Norwegian fjord to reach the ocean, the crew and several ships around them spot several american B-17s. They attack both the port and the ships in it, and the U-28 is hit by heavy machine gun fire, and is damaged by a nearby bomb explosion, she looses alot of her important equipment in the attack and starts to take on water, and the captain decides to turn around to port.
She just made it into port, although half-submerged. 3 crewmen from the engine room were lost.

May 5th 1945. All uboats recieves the message to seize all hostile operations against allied shipping. Their option now is to scuttle the boat, or for it to be captured by the allies. The captain of the U-28, knowing the war would end, wanted his crew to run no risk of dying, and decided to hoist a white flag and make for a british naval port, one he attacked just a few months before: Scapa flow.

Some 23 km east of the eastern inlet to Scapa flow the U-28 is spotted by two torpedo boats and later engaged by a destroyer, ignoring the white flag. The captain orders the evacuation of the boat, and the crew runs for the deck. After 2 direct hits from the destroyer she is taking on alot of water and starts to sink. The captain, in the conning tower, survived, along with most of the crew, that got out. 5 fell victims to the sea, including the motor officer.

At 15:55 she is lost with 5 hands. The survivors are picked up by the british destroyer and were sent to a POW camp for the last few days of the war.
The U-28 was never salvaged and is still resting on the seafloor.

I was looking at the Swordfish on your conning tower , When I saw it in the Bunker options I thought it looked too bright and Silly. but it looks cool on the Boat

Also I keep seeing post about the Water not looking good in WOS but it looks super to me in all these Screenshots

Yeah, the water is the best I've ever seen in any game to be honest...and the colours are spot on.

That dark blue/green/black of our coasts.....nailed it.

Yes I like the green swordfish emblem too.....mainly because of Das Boot, but I'm sure I've seen that colour used on under water/naval vessels somewhere before.....stands out slightly beneath the waves!

Edit: Actually I wonder if there is a way to only display 1 slightly bigger emblem on the front of the CT? Just like in DB.

Starting to get the feel of things, but I still get a bit task-saturated... After receiving a convoy notice from Bdu, I intercepted them near the coast. Angling for an awkward stern tube shot (I still have a hard time judging their line of travel from a distance, smoke direction seems to be of only limited use...) I missed and took some mild depth charge damage. Following from a safe distance, I attacked at night, but got a bit too close. The destroyer spotted me as I hastily fired all four tubes. Amazingly all four hit and detonated! After an hour or so, the last ship wouldn't sink so while the escorts were circling a couple of kilometers too far south, I put one shot in to finish her off before speeding away...three merchants down for 13 kt
