****ing Johnnie Walker! :)
But really - this was the case when dd is not heard for all the time, i swear i had perfect awareness, i always check once a time all 360 for new guys while i track the closest one :)
Sometimes Beno describes this dd's unable to hear and they are always slow, so classic bug, if someone could solve this, it would fix really biggest problem for me.
Ok right now, they are trying it again, really creeping attack, God this two guys are good, but the problem is really in the fact <8kts ships are not rendering I hydrophone...

u can not hear it or your sonar guy ????
cos sometime the sonar guy goes crazy and can not hear a ship at 800 m away and u can hear it at sonar station
I cannot hear it. Beno is reporting ship which i know it's there, but it's not rendered in hydrophone.
I found the sound disappear when it slows under 8kts

That's a known issue but it's more like under 5-6 kn. I didn't manage to solve it but I have optimized some campaign files in order to reduce it's effect.
IIRC, I told you before that you will hardly find ultra realistic hydrophones in any SH game. You have to combine your listening with Beno's reports in order to get the most possible accurate picture of surface traffic...However, I wouldn't bet my life on it ...SH is not DCS and unfortunately and it never will be...:yep:
Yeah, that's exactly what i found by time - beno + hydro :D
Only problem comes when you are hunted by two cloned Johnny Walkers itselfs :D

Hi, I have an objective problem. I'm AN 1814 or am I supposed to run every ship I meet for 48 hours on a radius of 120 KM .
I sank five ships in the area of 120 km and still failed goal !!!
I made a mistake somewhere ?
I forgot to mention that this is my second patrol, first I had the same problem.

u need to stay in that area for a period of time like 48h ....86h i don't remember exactly how long but u can see them in the mission order how long u must patrol there ....sometimes u need to stay in that area till BDU will send u a new patrol area via radio msg ......if u don't get any radio msg stay in that area don't leave it cos the time count will reset......
Ps. center of that grid coordinate are 58°03'00"N, 003°00'00"W

Yeah, it does not matter how much do you sink, it's just about to stay in that area, that's all :)

You have to stay patrolling for 48 hour, in the same session!. You can Alt+Tab and do what you want, but you cannot Save&Exit to Windows or your patrol time will be reset. You can Save, but don't Exit SH5.

there are bugs in the wolves of steel mod i d like to report:
when i order to shoot ships with the deck gun by choosing the officer from menue at buttom i have to always do those 3 steps over and over before they finally decide to shoot.
options are already selected fire on sealine, fire longest range, and fire free.
i have to click on stop fire re choose sealine etc again, and re choose fire range in order for them to begin shooting. not always happens but sometimes.
if i pick up the gun manually and start shooing by myself they continue. sometimes it helps if i use binoculars and command but not always.
the other bug is,when you dye your boat with the the sea stripes they sometimes disappear as if you never dyed your boat.

Hi DungeonBird,
Try manning the deck gun, finding the target via the binoculars and hitting the spacebar with the target centered. The crew should open fire at that point, at least that's been my experience. In rough seas though, just in case you didn't know, the crew will leave the deck gun.

the sea was always quiet when this happend. so that menue down below is almost useless. against planes i had similar issue with the small gun.

Hi KJ
Everyone will have their own opinion as to what they see is the best mega mod or best SH version.
SH5 has had a bad reputation and it will take a long time to reedem itself.
What is noticeable however are the numbers of gamers coming back to it now that TWOS has made such an impact.
TWOS has also now been strengthened with KSDCommander also being added.
I also play LSH3-2015 which I throughly enjoy and would recommend to any SH3 gamer to give it a try.
I also have SH4 TMOwtw 2.50 on the go as well although I do not play it as often as the other 2.
The SH3 and SH5 games I play frequently sometimes both in an evening give me more options but I do not prefer one over the other.
The good news for SH3 and SH5 gamers is LSH3, TWOS, KSD all have active modders updating in 2016.
Peter

Hi j, i understand your decision, but still i feel you should try harder.
I was there too before i tried twos, then i tried and i found many problems which still needs workarounds, but then i found i even like some of these bugs.
For instance the fact its not recommended to save game with hostile near, i have to deal with them without saving.
Real navigation is most awesome thing happened to sh game, ships destroy model is better in twos etc.
While getting into twos is still pain, it will reward you greatly in future.

The Program failed to start because libcef.dll is missing from your computer.
Anyone know what this means.
I tried lauching the game after not playing for a few months....then tried to use the auto run function on the desktop. It went to Uplay which installed an update but didn't stay opened. Tried autorun again and after hitting the run game button it gave me the above error message.

I tried looking on the forums and google but didn't get very far. I'm plagued with a bug where the crew stopped using their voice entirely. I've tried saving and reloading to no avail. I've even started a new campaign and it didn't work. When I start a historical mission it however does work. If anyone knows a way to resolve the issue for campaign I'd appreciate it.

Hello everybody,
I started a campaign with WOS after a lot of tutorial and you did a incredible job! I play full realism and it s a big pleasure.
But
- I v got a wicked bug, the boat's smoke reset. Every 15sec the smoke disappear and start again.
- This Nvidia black ball smoke at the horizon. Do you know if there are any solution?
- After 3 patrols, not a raining day!?
- The night the DD can t see me.
- I start my new patrol in 1940 with snorchel and decoy!
- Can you explain what is the smoke and wind mod?
Thank guys to take the time to read my poor english.
And a big appreciation to keep the dream alive!

There will be rainy days...:)
- The night the DD can t see me.
Of course, not until they turn on their search lights. But be careful, they may hear you...
- I start my new patrol in 1940 with snorchel and decoy!
Snorkel shouldn't be displayed in upgrade menu until 1943. Are you sure that you have installed everything correctly? Did you enabled snorkels manually using OFEW application?
Decoys are added intentionally from day one by the leading SH5 modder (TDW and his IRAI mod) intentionally and with a good reason, something about too effective escorts sonar early in the war...

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen,
I recently took the opportunity to get SH5 in the Steam Summer Sale after enjoying SH3. I've played subsims since the 1990s and I'd liked what I'd seen from SH5.
Sadly, it seems I'm not going to get the opportunity to even be plagued by SH5's issues.
Whenever I try and launch SH5 from Steam the Ubisoft launcher kicks in and the update server doesn't kick in. So I'm left with a screen saying, "A ubisoft service is unvailable at the moment. Please try again later."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher which at least updated the launcher but it still stuck. I've asked for support from Steam and Ubisoft but as yet, nothing.
Not sure if this is a protection issue or Ubisoft being swamped by new players but it's infuriating. Any workaround appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you. I suspect that one of the reasons is that a lot of people took the opportunity to buy the SH series in the sale and perhaps Ubisoft are overloaded. Something I have seen is that I need to remove the launcher entirely from the registry so some CCleaner fun incoming.
As an aside the fact that it says, "A ubisoft," rather than "An Ubisoft," annoys me more than it should :know:
Next up is trying to get GTIV EFLC to work. As a '90s computer owner, all this faffing about to get a game to play is reminicising I could do without.

Minor update.
So the first time I did the USoft update it didn't work. The launcher updated but SH5 still refused to load.
I tried again, used the launcher download link shown in this thread http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/675733-Ubisoft-Game-Launcher-Download-Forums
The launcher updated twice, then updated SH5 files and finally tried to launch from Steam and I got the intro video.
Success!

Hi macjim
If you are playing online then your old games will still be in the game launcher.
The uninstall process does not uninstall your SH5 saved games folder unless you instruct it to.
These old saved games are not compatible with TWOS.
The stadimeter becomes available when you lock on to a target with the space bar.
Do not know about the windowed mode, it may be the TWOS resolution mod has an influence on it?

Hi Macjim
When you select to play offline you will get an option to use your saved games or the cloud saved games.
You should select your saved games.
If you have already selected the cloud, the saved games are loaded from the cloud but also games are saved to your SH5 saved games folder as well but not used.
Check that you have manual targeting ticked in game play settings.
In TDW's Options File Editor Viewer go to the XO tab and check that manual targeting is enforced.
You must identify the target in the recognition manual (shortcut key E) and send the mast height to the TDC before you can use the stadimeter otherwise it cannot calculate the range which is what you are trying to find out.
Peter
Check your installation and watch some videos mate...Using stadimeter is pretty straightforward and it's quite noticeable in almost all instructional videos/ play troughs ...
Thanks for the hint. Have you got a link. I've watched about a dozen vids but cant see how the stadimeter is used (what keys or mouse movement I need). I can see that the prism splits the image (in the videos) but can't seem to make it happen in game.
Hi Macjim
When you select to play offline you will get an option to use your saved games or the cloud saved games.
You should select your saved games.
If you have already selected the cloud, the saved games are loaded from the cloud but also games are saved to your SH5 saved games folder as well but not used.

Thanks Peter I'll check it all out. I don't use the cloud. Appreciate the input.
The TDW Options file editor/Viewer shows manual targeting enforced.

Oh boy...:D There are two click arrows just next to the "other" inscription, use them and you'll change category...What you need is a bit of concentration...:03:
If you are indeed locked onto a ship and press the stadimeter button, you should be able to see the effect in the periscope by moving the mouse up and down.
That's helpful. Thanks for trying to help. I thought that was supposed to work like that. I think it may be broken for me.

Hi macjim
Just looked at your video.
Where you see < OTHER > click on the one of the arrows on the recognition manual cover and you will get different ship categories > warships > tankers > freighters etc.
'Other' is really just another word for miscellaneous that does not have a category.
Lock the target with the space bar.
This should open the TDC.
Use the E key as a short cut for the recognition manual.
Click on SEND MAST HEIGHT TO TDC showing in the recognition manual once you have identified the target.
Use your scroll wheel to open the periscopes magnification.
Place the periscopes horizontal line on the water line and then click the stadimeter button.
There are plenty of youtube tutorials that show you how to do this.

Cant say what exactly but you have definitely messed up something during your game/mod installation...Bismark should not be displayed in "other" category and definitely should not be labeled as "large sampan"...:)
EDIT
If you describe me in details your process of game/mod installation I may be able to help, otherwise hardly...
I've found lots of videos but sometimes its a little hard to tell what people are doing with the mouse ... or what keys they are pressing. Also many videos are not with the specific WOS mod. I think that the content in the videos I am watching are not for complete FNGs (Noobs) but are more easily understood if the viewer has played other SH games or at least SH5 vanilla.

Thank you sir,
knowing that it is messed up is very helpful. I wasn't sure if I didn't understand the game controls or if I had borked the install.
- I had installed the game (and your Mod) 3 times before posting my help request.
- Reinstalled twice more after you advised that I had messed up something.
- Seems to be working now. (fingers crossed)
- Thanks for creating the WOS Mega Mod and the detailed install instructions.

Well,
I'm sheepish back with other questions (at the end of the post). I should probably just quit trying with SH5 and give a go with SH3 but I'm encouraged by others who say that they have a stable install of SH5. So apologies in advance ... for more questions.
I’ve been trying to install SH5 for 2 weeks. Last try was on Friday morning July 15, 2016. I’ve had some luck but the game seems to have things that don’t work sometimes and other things that don’t work other times. I’m not really sure of everything that could be broken because I have not engaged in very much combat. But I still can't get the stadimeter working consistently.
Early last week I thought things were okay because I got the stadimeter and ship manual working. At least I think it was working. I didn’t play long enough to confirm if it was processing accurate ranges when I noticed that the tools on the map were broken. When I tried to place the ruler or compass they would be offset and not placed under my cursor. So I reinstalled the game again. But on the last install the stadimeter is not working again. The ship manual for ID is great but the stadimeter either will not show up or when pressed it doesn’t split the screen when I move my mouse.
Here is the process I used. (Briefly)
I uninstalled the game.
Unstalled Ubsoft
Ran CClean (also tried IOBit unistaller)
Deleted the directories
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\
C:\Users\Mac\Documents\SH5
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5
C:\Users\Mac\AppData\Local\Ubisoft Game Launcher
And Removed the registry entries associated with SH5 and UBsoft
Then I download the game from Gamersgate
Installed SH5
Installed Uplay
Updated SH5 to v1.2.0
Started a new campaign and exited the game as the video started.
Edited the Main.cfg file in Documents/SH5/data/cfg
Used the highly recommended settings from http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2165720&postcount=1
To change the parts under [TIME COMPRESSION] and [DEVELOPING]
Then edited careerHistory.cfg and changed the HasCompletedTutorial=true rather than false.
Then downloaded the WOS 1.05 MegaMod - The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Subsim Community SH5 Megamod - into the main Silent Hunter 5 folder C;\ubsoft\Silent Hunter 5 and downloaded and extracted the update 2. The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Update No. 15 into the MODS folder of the main directory.
I then ran the JSGME program and it seemed to work well and installed
1. The Wolves of Steel 1.05
2. The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Update No. 15
3. The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Real Navigation_by TheDarkWraith
4. The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Wind & Smoke addon
I did not use a resolution mod because I am using a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (but I also tried all of the other res mods.)
I also tried running the game with and without the WOS Wind and Smoke add on, several times.
After using JSGME to enable the MODs I used the TDW patcher. The TDW patcher worked successfully. On one occasion it didn’t seem to work and I uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch.
On the last two installs I can not access the stadimeter again.
I have been doing clean saves.
I only load personal saves and not auto saves.
If I have an issue I exit the game to desktop and restart the game.
I have uninstalled, cleaned my machine and reinstalled 8 times now. I've spent roughly 40 hours trying to get it working.
So my questions here are about Ubsoft. I wondering if it may be a Ubsoft problem. If is possible that Ubsoft is saving some piece of info in my profile that is causing problems. I’ve spend several hours with Ubsoft tech support trying to set up my launcher so it works entirely offline but Tech support says it is not possible.
Should I buy another copy of SH5 and start a new Uplay Account?
Will this increase the chance for a clean install?
Or if I buy a disk can I load the game offline?

Hi macjim
Is your only install option the Program Files (x86) folder?
A full uninstall should give you the option to remove the documents\SH5 folder containing your saved games.
I would suggest that you make the Generic File Patcher and the Options File Editor Viewer as stand alone applications as these are then not affected by re-installations in the future.
There is also an independent game launcher that can be installed on any drive and in any folder as well.
Uplay is part of the SH5 process so unfortunately cannot be removed only played offline.
I can only suggest buying the dvd version which at least will remove any possible downloading corruptions, and also you own it.
With the dvd custom install you will also have the option to install the game on any drive and in any folder.
The applications I have mentioned are all in my tutorials.

Thanks for the help, I will remove all of those.
Another question if you don't mind. If I wanted to install the sobers mega mod that was posted last month with the updates, would I need to uninstall the entire game to wipe all TWOS files clean and then reinstall? Or can I just remove them from the mod enabler and place sobers mod in its place?
Also, in your honest opinion would you prefer TWOS or sobers mega mod?

Hi ES
Do a complete uninstall from the Control Panel's Programs and Features including the option to delete the saved games folder.
If you intend to come back to TWOS and want to keep your saved games then save the SH5 folder to a different place before starting the uninstall process.
Delete the Ubisoft main game folder as this clear all of the stuff that the uninstall does not do.
No need to uninstall the game launcher.
Use a registry cleaner like Ccleaner.
Reinstall.
TWOS is an easier installation process than sobers in my opinion.
IIRC with sobers there is a bit of tinkering to do regarding mods and mep files.
Read his instructions carefully and you will be ok.
Watch out for dead is dead as you cannot load the last game save if you are killed.

I thank you Peter in answering my questions and I know this is a thread for bugs but if you don't mind I have a few more questions.
First, I've been trying to figure out a MOD but have had no luck finding it. I hope you can follow me here. It's a MOD that has the crew relaying commands I have given in german language and it sounds like its human voices. Like when I give a speed change command or we're diving and surfacing the boat they shout commands to one another. Also when I successfully sink a ship they cry out in celebration. I believe it has something to do with Das Boot. They are sound clips from Das Boot. What Mod is this????? And is it compatible with the TWOS.
Also, I am wondering about a folder I stumbled across. It is under the Silent Hunter 5 folder in my C drive and it is called The Wolves of Steel-documentation. When I click on this folder a whole list of MODS each with a documentation folder comes up. Are these the MODS that are in TWOS? Are they already enabled? If not have are they enabled?
I hate to be asking y'all these questions but SH5 is a game I love to play and I'm just trying to enhance the experience. I appreciate all y'all's time answering these questions.

Hi ES
The mod you are referring to is the DBSM speech mod.
You need to remove the sh.sdl file from it and then it will work ok in TWOS.
You can find it in my tutorials downloads section.
The mods you are referring to are already in TWOS.

Alright,
I downloaded the DBSM Speech mod 105 from your list.
I deleted the sh.sdl file from the mod.
Enabled the mod and it is working.
Except now when I'm standing in the engine room and the diesel's are running, there is no sound. Any thoughts?
Should I download the Stormy's DBSM v1.3 and try that one?

Hi ES
IIRC fitzcarraldo in one of the TWOS posts said he enabled the full DBSM mod but he never said whether he removed the sh.sdl file.
Worth a try with the full mod and if that does not work then remove the file.

hello - i think i found a bug
the boat position will not be calculated accurate with wolves of steel .
i found out that this makes it very very hard to patrol an area.
sometimes the computer show me my position is somewhere on land!
i use now the option to show the uboot on my map constant .
everything else map contacts are turned off.
great add on anyway !!
yesterday i hit a medium tanker at 3600 meter with 2 torpedos !
it took me 2 hours calculating again and again ...
and in the end <---- i gave it 4 degree more , because i just had this feeling
this is so satisfying !!

I know I'm late and I've been trying to work my way through the mods and get a stable version of 5 up and running. I've seen this issue, but it's usually resolved with "don't get a pirated version." I bought mine off steam but still have the issue; I can sink a lot of ships and the tonnage shows up in my captains log, but the bar doesn't fill and I can't complete the missions.
I'm running the basic essential list found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=203711
I don't really care much about a lot of the mods I just want to get a stable version running.
My computer runs windows 10 but I don't know how to check other specs; I know that it's a powerful computer that doesn't have issues running games. If you need more than that I can try to find it and instructions would help. I've installed JSGME and am using it to enable the mods and think I'm doing it right (moved the mods i want over to the right, hit close, then started SH5) but I haven't noticed any difference when I run SH5. Any help you could give would be appreciated; I feel like this game has a lot of potential it's just unplayable for me right now.

Just installed Wolves of Steel on Windows 10.
When I go to load any game even a new campaign I get the message:
The internet connection experiences problems and the current game was saved.
I only get the option to continue.
If I continue it creates a save and then throws the menu back at me.
If I hit escape here I go direcly back to the menu.
It will randomly load Wolves of Steel correclty (I've only got it to load corretly once) I don't know what took place to allow me to load this correctly but it did so.
Please help me get this going. I love the little bit of WOS I have been able to play.

Hey all ! Beautiful mod ! Really.
However. I have scoured the forum and cannot find solutions for two big problems I have atm.
1. The Compass image on Map (the see through one with which you make
course plots) as well as the protractor and ruler is the WRONG WAY
AROUND. That means the 0 (N) is at the bottom !!! And I am not on the
Southern Hemisphere for sure ! I would like to change the image by
rotating (flipping) it up. how do I mod that ?
2. Rotation speed of Deck cannon is way too slow for a proper '88. This has
not much to do with its crew though since they are at 80% now. Would
like to change those settings too but where ?
If I have put this in the wrong topic please help me put it in the right one :)
I am not an avid modder but have tweaked games before.
I am a regular veteran of IL2 CLOD Team Fusion Mod and SOW (Storm of War) server. Some of you might have seen me in the air there as the commander of KG54, flying my Ju-88 and He-111.
So basically I would like to solve the two immediate problems I encountered at this time.
Some minor issues
(I would like the event cam to work, changed in the main.cfg but at any event happening it does not function/start. I use it mainly in a cinematic manner [making a mini series of my SH5 game] )
(I would like to add more commands to the keyboard if possible, where do I tweak those settings)
(Speech control does not work because of Win 7 home Premium 64 bit Dutch version. (only some versions have it and not mine) Vistalizator gives problems so I am not using that. And since Win7 refuses to download updates these days basically i am ****ed)
That is all for now. Changed the ruler colors etc. via the TDW Generic patcher which worked. Just do not know where to go for that other stuff.
MAIN PROBLEM !

You can use the navigation maps draggable compass that is on the right side partially hidden by the icons.
The outer compass rotates.
The inner compass is the u-boat's
Right click with the mouse reverses the bearings.

Hey guys! I'm new here so sorry if im not up to par with everything that's been goin on lately. But anyway im having a weird bug with The Wolves of Steel megamod(I didnt add any extra mods) where.. Well.. Here, its better if i just show you.
Anyone got any advice? And sorry if this isn't the right section to post this in!:06:
Oh and i would like to mention that i did everything by the book. No miss steps no botching anything up. I even made sure my Silent Hunter 5 copy was in the default installation location and everything. Multiple uninstalls and re-installs,nothing worked.
Show us one screenshot of jour JSGME...Does it look something like this?

Hehe, I wouldn't bet on that one...The user does it, not the mod it self... :03:
To be honest, I will never really understand why simple and straight forward application, like JSGME is, posses such "enigma" for some newcomers...:hmmm::06:

U can bet it is, after a long time enabling mods one by one thats the one that gave problems (New UIs TDC by TheDarkWraight), but only after a certain update, on my machine it was about New UIs 6.3.x after i would get wierd screen blacks and UIs that dont work.
And JSGME is a awesome tool, and it works on other games too, use it in C&C Generals Zero Hour and its perfect, no more 10 copies for 9 mods and a backup.

Your problem has to do with your screen resolution.
I have a 1280x1024 screen. I had that problem when I put the 8.5 patch in without changing the resolution in the game to 5.4.
Then I downsampled my screen to 1280x960 and put the same resolution in the game settings. and do not start the game in a window.
Depending on your system and your screen you get this error since the GUI does not overlay correctly.

As I said, there's probably nothing wrong with the mod it self...Nice tip, thanks...
I KNEW it
Some days ago I downloaded the Wolves Of Steel 1.05 latest edition
Throughout the day I have cut and paste from the mod into the game's different folders
Started the game and got a crash, tried again-same story Crash.
Said to myself-you knew this would happen-Only patches or mods that have "automatic installation" is useful for a 250 % real novice like me.
So now I have to think if I wanna reinstall SH5 with all its bugs or wait for a patch where these have been fixed.
I'm so happy for those who lay down hours after hours on making a game, such as SH5 more delight full to play, I wish however that they would make a "automatic installation" so a real 250 % novice like me can get the pleasure to play SH5 with a super mods like Wolves Of Steel.
I would gladly pay 5-10 $ to the creator of such mod if he made an automatic installation.
It's not the fist time this has happened-Last time was when I played SH3 I made an "investigation" and found out I had copied files from the mod folder into the correct game folder AND I had, believe it or not, copied files from the game folder into some of the mod folder.

An idea could be that if a player want the easy part of getting this mega mod-Wolves Of steel installed into his SH5 game folder, this person should give 5 or 10 $ to Subsim and thereby get this mega mod with an auto installer.

Yup i saw it. I did it to get a screenshot. Tried EVERYTHING resolution related. Suffice to say fullscreen didnt work, downsampling, multiple other resolutions/resolution scalings. Tried them with and without the resolution patches, nothing.
Edit: oh and yes ofc im using version 1.2.0
Any version prior to that is just... Unplayable for me. (Meaning it runs but but i like a more finished game, that patch, patched it just enough to make it playable for a lot of people)
Strange indeed...Can you show me few screenshots of your main Silent Hunter 5 folder with mods enabled and with mods disabled ?:hmmm:
Did you watch The Norse Cast's video tutorial how to install game and TWoS ?
vdr1981
08-27-16, 09:02 PM
I watched the tutorial yeah, and before i comply to that,i found out that the problem IS the NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith itself.
I made a new copy of SH5 and shoved JSGME in there, did a few tests and only enabling "NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith" will cause this issue. I've got NO other mods in that folder. just "NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith"
Any advice?
Be aware that NewUI mods archives are packed somewhat tricky...They are not JSGME compatible as soon as you extract the archive. Are you sure that you have added the main NewUI mod correctly to your JSGME MODS folder?
Ashikaga
08-27-16, 11:32 PM
What is your exact system setup ?
I need to know your video card settings, your screen settings and your cfg settings.
Also, did you watch the how to install the Mod correctly video on youtube ?
Helped me a lot !
The only problems I have at the moment with the UI is that it at times lets you pull up the clock when you shift-Z to get rid of it but refuses to bring up the compass. And I like to have the clock and compass as separate entities on my screen when I remove the UI sidebars.
ADDITIONAL !! and this is important.
Check your JSGME.
You only should have the resolution patch enabled that is at that time compatible with your resolution.
When I play with my screen set to 1280x1024 I use the 5.4 patch.
Switching over to another resolution, for instance 1280x960 I go to the 8x5 patch.
Two resolution patches enabled at the same time will mess up your overlay.
What you can also try to do is disabling the KSD commander.exe program since that is the
main reason why at startup you get an unworkable overlay asking you to save nav fixes etcetera.
So I just do not use that at all.
Screenshot of my present setting at 1280x1024:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/IMPERIALCOMMAND/JSGME2_zpsjh2xgdnb.jpg
This is with update 16.3 installed btw.
Hope that helps.

Well the Main cfg which should be located in your Documents SH5 folder.
There are resolution settings in that also.
I must say I did get your error once yesterday after installing the Speech mod and patching the game with the TDW generic patcher. But as soon as I removed both speech mods the start screen went back to normal.
My system is way under yours. hahahaha. IBM Lenovo But I use two terabyte HDD's and an Nvidia 920 as well as 5GB RAM which I want to make at least 8 for playing IL2 CLOD properly.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/IMPERIALCOMMAND/Sys%20specs_zpsu07hzvom.jpg
So I absolutely do not know why you have these problems with the game because you should not have any with your rig.
The only thing I can think of I have already explained. Mods acting out together and resolution.
:)
But we will get there eventually and get you on the sealane.

I think it is a software problem, somehow our OS graphics (like aero for win7) is messing with the game, but none of this as ben a solution for it, just my idea as in a old game i had kind of the same problem (black boxes).
I will continue trying some stuff until run out of ideas, but until there i sugest u to use the Wolfes of the Deep with the Magui UIs.

So after installing a few mods, it would appear to have broken the objectives within the game, meaning that if I sink a ship within an area that it's telling me to do, it doesn't seem to want to count towards the objective. There was no problem before installing mods, but now after deleting all the mods and reinstalling the game, I'm still having that issue. I've tried the whole, save in the bunker, load the save thing, and that doesn't fix it. Anyone know what's up? D;

Quick other question. In the Megamod TWOS has the campaign/missions registering as finished failure been resolved ? Or do I still need to manually transport savegame files all over the game ?

With that I mean that I finished Eastern approaches torpedoeing 7 ships, returning home to Wilhelmshafen getting a new mission to the Coastal waters and even a medal for the Eastern Approaches and then discovering that the Eastern approaches mission I succesfully concluded was PENDING in stead of completed.
Thought it now is 10-10-1939 in my game I am not sure whether the campaign switch will take place in June 1940.
I also think that "Pending" is ridiculous since I almost got killed on that patrol.
Also might be my own fault because somewhere (dunno for sure when and where) I seem to have seen a message saying mission failed due to user exit.
So I am unclear as to what happened.

Mate...That's not your "mission". British coastal waters is an objective (area of operations) of the entire U-Boot Waffe (or at least your flotilla) . You think that you can complete that alone ? I don't think so...:) Did you check my tip regarding the concept of campaigns, missions and objectives in SH5 TWoS?

PS. Still have a strange glitch in sound.
When selecting torpedo tubes the wrong tubes are mentioned.
Example. Click on tube 1, voice says tube three, et cetera.
And still have double voices when selecting navigator to make a fix.
Asl for a fix, he says he will do that and at the same time the Weather report man starts shouting that the weather report is being sent.
Very annoying but well. Getting used to it now.
I tried on two GPU's - nvidia gtx 770 and 980. On both I have the same issue - textures of small objects inside the sub - rivets, plaques, went covers, pieces of paper and many more - are flickering. When I start the campaign there are no signs of it till I dock in Kiel. After departuring from Kiel after 5 mins there are few flickering objects, but their number grows. Loading a saved game cures it but it comes back in 5 mins. I found no info about it in the Internet. Please help me, my eyes are in pain because of it

Thanks in advanced... I reinstalled SH5 after a long absence in a fit of nostalgia after seeing Shaefer play WOS on youtube. I figured id give it a try. After some trial and error i got the mods installed and working properly. During my first effort i did not install the TDW mod enabler properly and i did not have any sound. Once i rewatched the tutorial i realised my mistake and that did the trick. German voices with english subtitles. After completing the Danzig campaign after a few days of playing on and off i saw that 1.06 had come out fixing some stability issues. I decided to install it. Once i did so i got to the point where i am running the game at around 7fps and there is no sound at all outside of the menu music once you first load up the game. Ive tried starting new campaigns and even just going back to 1.05 but nothing works. Now the base game even runs at the same fps with no mods installed.
MODS list: just base Wolves of Steel mods nothing extra
SPECS:
Intel i7 6820hk 2.70 ghz over clocked to around 3.2
32 gb ram
GTX 980m 2 way sli Ive tried disabling the SLI no change at all.
TL;DR Game now runs as a slide show even after multiple installs. No sound in base game or WOS. I will try one more time and use a registry cleaner to make doubly sure im starting from scratch. Ive reinstalled Uplay as well.
PS played all of the SH series but new to subsim... i started my account a few years ago to get RFB for SH4.

So I recently got SH5, and I have a gaming laptop that doesn't have a numpad, so I can't hit Num0 to put the rudder amidships. Ive tried changing it in the .cfg file to another key, save it, and start up the game, and it still doesn't work. Does anybody know how to change the keybindings? Thank you for the assistance.

Solved the issue "Black charts and messed up GUI" in the Wolves Of Steel Megamod for SH5.
It's a DirectX issue, mostly related to a wrong version OR a compatibility option.
In my case I just had to set it back to W10 compatibility and the charts came back, good as new.
Horaaaaay!!!:Kaleun_Cheers:

Your video gives you the answer straight away.
Escort medium range.
Making game saves close to any AI is a classic cause of ctd's.
Yeah, but this could be fixed by removing ships from your save i believe, but i don't know how.
Second problem could be if you overwrite your saves. If you made it by overwrite i would bet it's forever gone, because Ubisoft made saves overwriting very wrong, the saves are merged together and corrupted.
Always delete previous one before overwriting.

Very rarely...and you can test this for your self...:yep: Something else is issue here. Friendly kills maybe, or messed up game/mods installation? TDW's Generic patcher?:hmm2:
This save is making to demonstrate the issue. Some other saves deleted earlier. The game is reinstalled so many times.
Other savegames saved when my u-boat is in open waters and there was no other vessel nearby. Same results.
And again: no matter whether have any enabled mod, or just the stock (v1.02) game version. If i want to load a "ship onboard" saved game, the results is a game freeze. Alltime. :(

What is the path to your SH5 folder inside "Documents"?
For example "C:\Users\Vdr\Documents\SH5"
Administration rights? Compatibility options ?
Game settings and saving path like Your example. Admin rights set to sh5.exe, compatiblity (now): WinXP sp3

Now i have not installed Windows 7, but it was previously installed and the game is produced the same error. That is why I have not played the game until now.
But then I could play the game that I played through a patrol, and finished in a port.
After/before patrols saved game in a port is working. The game saves during patrol (aka ship onboard saves) do not work.

Go to your "Silent Hunter 5\data\Applications\JSGME mod validator" , run the app, save and upload the logfile...
You should also use SH5 Validator and upload that logfile too..
Can you confirm that your user account folder (C/Users/*****) is not named in some "national" font, Cyrillic for example?
What about some other games which also uses "Documents" folder for gamesaves? Can you save/load the gameseves there?
Can you upload one of those broken gamesaves?.
EDIT:
So??:hmmm:
Here is two log file:
http://mumtaz.pe.hu/userfiles/upload/jsgme_validator.log
http://mumtaz.pe.hu/userfiles/upload/sh5_validator.log
All my other games - whitch use my documents folder - all working fine.
Special characters in my documents path (C:\Users\Mumtaz\Documents\...) not included.
What files/folders you need to upload from my user folder?
Ok. I uploaded my complete "SH5" folder from my "documents": http://mumtaz.pe.hu/userfiles/upload/sh5.zip

Did you save and reload the game on campaign start, in Memel bunker?
Also, when you startted this campaign, which TWoS update was active?
Everything looks good , yet your gamesaves are somehow ****up.
How about to start new campaign and see will your gamesaves work now, but dont forget to do save/reload in Memel bunker...

Hello all. I logged on to steam the other day and saw this game, However, me being the tight wad that I am, read up on the reviews and learned not to get it on steam. So i have the version that requires uplay or whatever. I also saw it was buggy, but with the help of this site, learned those bugs can be over come, or so I thought.
I did the suggested main mod, I think wolves of steel etc, and I wasnt able to get the tonnage bar working right on a mission. Even with the save and relog. Also, after I loaded the mod, about 80% of the torpedoes I fired just went in circles.
Im not a huge realism buff, but I want an enjoyable game to play. How would I go about doing this. Im not extremely tech savvy, and might need a walk through. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have since uninstalled the game and reinstalled it.If you have played silent hunter 3/4/5 for the last 10 years and read thousands of threads on it and kept up with the nuances of the mega mods , know how to install EXE program and patches , install mods correctly with jsgme etc , you shouldn't have a problem .
Do you have the EXE patcher working ?

UPDATE, so i THINK i did things right with the mods and patches. However I am doing the mission british supplies in the campaign mode and and ship I sink is NOT filling up the tonnage bar to show progress for the mission. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to fix this?
OldCoder

This might be because the tonnage accumulation system has some issues and missions have been changed to end via dates rather than tonnage sunk. See http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2201543&postcount=64

Hi Billy,
These days there's really only one mod to install for SH5. It consists basically of a large collection of carefully tested and fine-tuned mods. It is called 'The Wolves of Steel', and you will find a sticky thread for it on the SH5 Mods forum. It is actively maintained and supported by vdr1981 (Vecko). This is a superb mod which makes an initially crap game completely playable and an absorbing experience.
Make sure to carefully read Vecko's first and second posts. It explains in detail exactly what you need to do, and provides lots of answers to many questions.
In TWoS you will find no tonnage bar or other arcade game nonsense [emoji1]
Good luck and have fun (like I have for months now and the end is nowhere in sight yet)!

Hi guys, I'm not exactly new here but this is my first post.
I have the steam version of SH5 with the latest TWOS and update (i did all that special procedure for the steam versions). The first mission went smoothly, no, problem, left Kiel for the Eastern Coastal Waters, everything good, did my patrol, emptied my tubes, time compression worked flawlessly until it didn't :)) I'm on my way to the base to restock and everytime i use TC it crashes to desktop randomly. I mean i can use TC for a few minutes or maybe sometimes for a few hours (ingame) and then it crashes. It also doesn't matter what TC value I use. It's very weird, but maybe you guys happened to stumble upon this problem some time ago and have a solution. I tried searching for this issue but i had no luck.
Thanks

Please don't discuss in this thread any potential issues caused by your own custom modlists and unsupported mods. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2165721&postcount=2) Also, make sure to pay special attention to FAQ and Tips section and feel free to ask in this thread for any additional elucidation.
Using sensible amounts of TC should not be a problem with TWOS.
Around ports you may not be able to use more than TC8.
Much will depend on your systems capabilities.
Making a manual game save 100km from port exiting the game and loading the new save can be helpful in reducing the chance of a ctd.
Your problem sounds like a corrupted game save.
From having no problems to having a problem.
It is advisable to end the patrol rather than refitting.
Refiitting continues to store larger amounts of data which can contribute to causing a problem.
Making manual game saves at sensible times can also be a helpful.

Hello friends,
I installed Wolves of Steel megamod a month ago and I started playing with an ambitions again cause you know about bugs of stock game and unfilling campaing bars, they made me bored this game before. Anyway, I have similar problem in my modded game I think, game date is April 08,1941, current dock is still Lorient, and the campaign is still Coastal Waters. No information given about Happy Times except radio messages(I mean not jump to happy times section in campaign chart), I think Happy Times should be finished according to mentioned date. When I abort the games all abjectives seems finished except South Western Approaches(on-going). 518K ships sunk in my current career. So, there must be something wrong. I will be very happy if anybody can help me with suggestions, Thank you very much in advance.

I think Happy Times should be finished according to mentioned date. Correct, finished March 1st 1941
When I abort the games all abjectives seems finished except South Western Approaches(on-going). Correct, because SWA is the last campaign in Total Germany finishing as previously stated June 1st 1940.
Your problem is that your game has not moved you from Total Germany to Happy Times.
To get your game back on track you will need to delete some gave saves and use the fix below.

Hi 19Herr
I think your problem is your GPU?
I think the GTX260 is only 1gb?
You need a minimum of 2gb to run TWOS.
My tutorial post has some applications that can help frame rates but, I think you will always have some sort of problem.
I would suggest you edit your post and use a spoiler.

Hi THEBERBSTER
I'm playing with TWOS with HD radeon 4650 1gb and working very good just I used anti lag mod.. no problem... but now watch details of GTX260... and then write my opinion
I watched GTX260 VS HD4650 and yes GTX better of my HD4650

Okay guys. Sorry about the giant system spec thing. When I get to a pc and can figure out the spoiler thing I'll hide it! Lol.
Anyway anti lag. I'm using the d3d anti lag mod. For settings I have 30fps on the limiter. Render ahead set at 2. May try switching those to 1 on render ahead, and fps limit 25. Thanks for the help mates

I am an old sea dog using SH3 with GWX for a long time and have been handed a copy of SH5 to have a go with.
My question is is it worth upgrading to SH5 from my current set up? and will it take a lot to get it working properly.
I like the fact that in SH3 I can just go out on a long patrol travel where I like, collecting tonnage. I dont want to loose that freedom by having to play campaigns, something I dont enjoy.
I am using a HP Pavilion (AMD A8 with Radeon Graphics).
Thanks

hi,
i am completely new to silent hunter and modding.
just went through the step by step process installing sh5 WOS Megamod,
great stuff and plausible (even for me)
-got the steam version (1.2.0), but when starting the game
via steam it tells me: files are missing
so i tried one of the modded .exe files from the sh5 folder:
sh5_patched.exe ; it launches via uplay only
and everything looked ok so far, except that there appears
a big black screen on the left upper side of my monitor, which i am unable to close.
:hmmm: how to deal with this?

None of the mega mods are compatible with Steam as they all use TDW's Generic File Patcher.
This is an essential SH5 application that is need to fix a lot of problems with the game but is not Steam compatible.

Exactly, and make sure to grab the latest one...:yep:
Twos update should be enabled just like any other JSGME compatible mods and you shouldn't "edit" anything...
And also , why did you enable all 3 resolution patches?

Hi.
I have just finished reinstalling both stock game and mods, Everything is looking fine and they done like described , I took a photo at harbor game did not shut down, but nothing seen in the photo, not like yours, only in gray color. Anyway, I think as it is count by the game when I took the picture.
Otherwise now I have "campaign advance problem detected" problem, I tried to reload several times as it mentioned but I couldnt receive the good order message at all.
Btw, my stock game is Uplay version and gold edition. I read some correspondences in forum about gold edition, anywat I also couldnt resolve this problem, hope it wont effect course of the campaign in future.
So, I do not want any other help, I just gave information. Thank you for your time and sorry if I wasted your time. Nice day.

Hi Quicksand
Your problem I am sure was because you installed 3 resolutions.
If your monitor is widescreen 16.9 you will not need to enable any resolution as this is the TWOS default resolution.
1920 x 1080 resolution does not need any additional resolutions to be enabled.

That;s quite normal, your photos are stored in "documents/SH5/data/Photos" folder...

This function is still in test phase but it shouldn't have any significant impact on your gameplay if you carefully read about "campaign transfers" in FAQ and tips section...

u need to stay in that area for a period of time like 48h ....86h i don't remember exactly how long but u can see them in the mission order how long u must patrol there ....sometimes u need to stay in that area till BDU will send u a new patrol area via radio msg ......if u don't get any radio msg stay in that area don't leave it cos the time count will reset......
Ps. center of that grid coordinate are 58°03'00"N, 003°00'00"W
Top left 58°06'00"N, 003°06'00"W Top right 58°06'00"N, 002°54'00"W Bottom left 58°00'00"N, 003°06'00"W Bottom right 58°00'00"N, 002°54'00"W
So, I must sink the enemy ship in that area (designated area) too? Im a little bit confuse.:hmmm:

After I be sure about the photo problem again, I tried something within small hope for to solve this problem. When I was trying lower graphic settings suddenly I started getting the good order messages, It may be helpful for mod makers, I mean the relevance between graphic settings and good order message if any relevance is really exist, I just share my experience.

On my SH5 game there is no way I can set the battle stations,no way to use periscope if not on battle stations...tried absolutely everything I could remember but I can't set the battle stations. I can open/close all doors and hatches, talk to the crew, well most of them...I can click as much as I want on some, but nothing happens. In the first mission,to sink the very first ship, that was the first and the only time I was able to set the battle stations ,and fire a torpedo...nothing after that. EDIT, Now I can destroy the ship, but,I can't see how much torpedoes I have. I know it's on ENTER key,but no matter how many times I press it,nothing happens...so any idea? Thank you.

Hello,
I just came back to sh5 after a long break. I made a fresh install (latest patch) and am using the current version of twos, installed per instructions, with the enigma addon.
My problem is the radioman report shortcut (in the crew icons on the bottom of the screen) have stopped working all of a sudden after a couple in-game days. I can see the report contacts and status buttons, but they show '[no function]' underneath and nothing happens when clicked. I can still use the radioman directly from his station, however.
A fresh install didn't fix the problem.
Do you guys have any idea what might have gone wrong? As I said everything was working fine before.
Thanks for your help.

TWOS uses a different system to tonnage sunk system so mostly avoids the issue, and I wrote an optional mod campaign advance verifier for TWOS to detect this problem .

additional issue: everytime when i'm on patrol and need to load my in-patrol save (because other bugs -mostly:tc not going to 1 while aircraft spotted and under attack or own fault.. like standing on the bridge and trying to crash dive without going into the sub in the first place) the currently selected patrol mission gets deselected and i don't get any mission progress even if i sink a small unguarded convoy of 3 big juicy freighter with 7000+ tons each. it's now my third new career, issue persists through all of them so far.
