The problem I am finding when I am investigating ctd problems etc, mods being used or added are often quite old.

Older mods are often no longer compatible with todays current mods like OHII and TDW's New Ui that have so much stuff already added in them.

EDIT: Same saddening results, even with the specific mods removed.. Perhaps I should try removing all mods to do a control test? If that doesn't work, unless you have further solutions, i could try reinstalling and installing my 'core' mods to see if it works, then adding mods until it doesn't work again, and then avoiding this/these mod(s).
What do you think?

What was concerning looking at your Post #1748 was the large number of mods being over written by such a small mod list.

Something to look out for in the future.

It is always worrying if you have a number of independent mods overwriting each other rather than a patch mod which you would expect one to over write the other.

Are you using TDW's Generic File Patcher?

Loading stock fixes the problem, and yes i am using his patcher v.1.0.164.0
guess I should go 1 by 1 then?

EDIT: We have a winner!
TDW New UI 7-4-2
so here's what happens-
i start a new campagin, skip tutorial
game loads, talk to the loadout guy quickly just to check his chat boxes
talk with captain, skip the movie thing, and select British waters
new patrol, NO UI whatsoever
press M to load map
close map, UI is there but none of the dials work and the time compression is blank
( i can also talk with the crew and then close their chat to bring up the officer panel)

As I said before when you look at your Post #1748 it is worrying to see such a lot of over written mods which points to conflicts likely to happen, things not happening, and possible ctd’s.

One last check before you start.

Go to your mods folder and open the 7-4-2 base mod

Can you see the Data Folder + 11 Applications?

Once I added 7-4-2, I had the problem as earlier described
And no I cannot see the 11 plus application folders for the mod.
Once I get home later today I will try to use 7-5-0 and see if there are improvements.
I will also try removing the addons to the 7-4-2 mod.

Oh, I'm sorry, if you meant the .dll files, I have those, I thought you meant the extra mod packs!

EQuaTool 01.01 by AvM - Large Style

When I start poting courses and lines or circles, the large style doesn't appear, just the vanilla one. And also, I for example put the start point in one place and it start to plot the line in another site. COULD SOME ONE HELP ME! Is to dificult to realize all the calculations in a paper!:/\\!!

Have you opened the plotting compass?

If you leave it closed then it is stock tools.

Yes I tried unistalling all mods and installing again. But still the same mistake. Maybe is uncompability with mods? or a wrong installation?

I am using the steel wolves mega mod patched to 1.02 patch 4 and tdw generic patcher when submerged skybox is visible along the horizon at any depth if not overcast. basically you are seeing clouds mottled in texture underwater along an underwater horizon. any help in removing most welcome , Regards pwndbyagerbil33 :subsim:

It's a stock bug. Disable 3d clouds to fix this.

I might be wrong but still these are my questions.

The following are my questions about the 'Wolves of Steel' mod in general. Not questions to you Ironcold but maybe VDR1981 could answer them.
I'm not sure but they need to be explained (at least to me :hmm2:);


Don't the following two mods lead to an unnecessary conflict?
HydrophoneFollowNearestContactFix_For_NewUIs_TDC_7 _1_0_To_7_5_0
No Sonar Ping & Auto Ship Recog. - for TDW NewUIs 7_4_2 - Why is this one included? Doesn't this one make the sonar quiet and that you get no hit in the Ship Recognition Book?
No, those are totally two different mods...



And what about this?
According to the Beast himself the following ones should be enabled last, shouldn't they?
This would mean they are enabled way too early in the 'Wolves of Steel mod'

Just like other 90% of mods outhere...Keep in mind that EUF is an old mod and it's normal that "install last" note is present in readme file . In TWoS, all mods which are overwriting EUF are compatible and tested. You can check RSD readme for example...

You're right, R.E.M_by_Xrundel_TheBeast_1.2 - no hyd on surface - NewUIs-IRAI compatible is redundant here but this should pose no problem at all becuase RSD adds new sensor file for GHG hydrophones. I kept first mod just for reference...


IF the 'The Wolves of Steel' mod is meant to give German speech (isn't it?) shouldn't SH5 be installed in the German version?

Not necessarily ...On the other hand, why would anyone want to have English sounds on German U-boat?

Hi everyone, I just installed SH5 on my new PC. Works fine, apart from the fact that when I slew my view around, it doesn't go smoothly, it kinda stutters. It only happens when I'm on the tower and only in first person view. As well as that, Uplay won't sync my save games when I close the program, it just tells me sync failed. Any ideas? Thanks:)

First - please give us our system's config.
And - your MODS list including your current load order.

Could be a result of your ingame graphics settings.
Try turning down the 'shadows' setting to about 50% and see what happens.

You could even try the d3d AntiLag. Here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/BadgerFinn

N.B. Follow the instructions in the enclosed 'readme'. This is not an ordinary 'MOD'.
In the antilag.cfg try these settings:
RenderAheadLimit=1
FPSlimit=36

As well as that, Uplay won't sync my save games when I close the program, it just tells me sync failed. Any ideas? Thanks:)

I'm sure there are other mates around here who are better at telling what to do about this one.

All in all, quite a decent computer.

For some reason the hardware detection tool thing that comes with the game says my graphics card is not compatible, despite the fact that I've installed all the latest drivers.:06: Game runs super smooth anyway so I don't think that's causing the problem.

Mods:

Only NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith.

I haven't had time to install any other mods yet.

I managed to fix the Uplay sync thing though. Turns out it doesn't work for some people so I just turned it off.

Well, for the time being I can live with that weird mouse thing. I'm not on the tower that often anyway.

Seems like a good computer, you shouldn't have any problems with that.

Hello everyone, I was playing Silent Hunter 5 when my internet disconnected. After fixing the problem with my internet, I tried to restart SH5. After clicking on the icon, it said that my local save games are not in sync with the data on the cloud. It gives me the option to select the cloud save game or my local save game. If I select either of them, the same thing happens. U play crashes and the game will not start. I have tried uninstalling and installing the game, but this does not help. I have the steam version. Thank You.

Haven't come across this problem yet (yet being the operative word) but would have suggested a clean installation.

Hi dogpoweredtrain,

IF and WHEN you do a reinstall - make sure you get rid of all files related to SH5 including deleting the SH5 folder.

You could even try to make a scan with the CCleaner if you'd like; http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

This way I've never had any problems reinstalling.

IF and WHEN you do a reinstall - you should even reinstall JSGME.

I have a brand new beast desktop computer and I still have some problems with the fifth Silent Hunter. First of all after the installation the hardware checker software tells me that my graphics driver is way outdated however this number has nothing to do with my graphics driver version and the Nvidia utility tells me that it is up to date.
Then my camera experiences sort of a lag when I turn it around both in first person view and with the external view and some items and objects around are flickering like they are very very quickly appearing and disappearing when I look at them.
What can the actual problem be?

Why do say that you would leave it as is?
What can the cause of the problem be? I guess it is a well known problem if you give me a fix straight ahead. Correct?
What can I do about the flickering of the textures? That does not apply to any exact objects in the game ranging from the binoculars of my officers on the conning tower to the smoke on the horizon. Things may be flickering quickly or may be just suddenly appearing and disappearing as they wish seeming to be dependent on the angle I look at them possibly.
What is the last post about actually?

Same flickering for me. May be this has something to do with newer Nvidia GPU's - in my case GTX760. d3d_antilag101 does not help.

Have you tried to make a complete reinstall of the GPU drivers?
I mean, first uninstall the driver and then install the new one. Could even be wise to try an older driver.

- Do you run some environment mod?
- What graphics settings in the ingame options?
- Try to turn down the 'shadow' setting.
- What mods and load order in JSGME?

- In case you use the 'nVidia Control panel' or the 'nVidia GeForce Experience' - Deacivate it and let's see what happens.
Let the game only control the graphics settings (use the ingame graphics settings)?

I bought the new SH5 game and everything went well until you folks stuck it on Uplay. Now when I start all over again with a new person, I do the tutorial, I dock at Kiel, I have the conversation with the cap'n, load up my boat, change my hydrophones and get my cap'ns emblem. when I talk to the guy from the BdU, he tells me all about the woe Germany has to put up with after invading Poland. When he's done, I check the map to see what kind of mission orders I can choose from. Only problem is that they're NOT THERE! Usually there's a red band on the east coast, a red circle on the sw coast and the northern coast near scapa flow. Not any more. All it shows are ports and airfields in different countries, red for enemy and blue for friendly. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it didn't work, same problem.:/\\!!

i have the same problem with sh5, its starts till you go onto start mission screen then it goes of and i get the message thankyou for playing sh5, i have tried reinstalling 5 times and done the same with you play as well as giving ubisoft a piece of my mind, is there anyway you can make it playable with out uplay

Same flickering for me. May be this has something to do with newer Nvidia GPU's - in my case GTX760. d3d_antilag101 does not help.

If its the stutter on the bridge its because of Ubisoft's crappy coding. To solve it, simply turn off V-sync in the games options. Then if you need it, enforce V-sync via your graphics drivers control panel instead.

FYI; This is an issue across all ubisoft titles in the last few years. They do not code v-sync properly for double and triple buffering, which means when you are playing an Ubi title with V-sync active from the game you get frame slowdowns, sometimes even causing a game to slow to a crawl.

It's pretty common for a new PC game to have some bugs and glitches, so before we have a forum full of "OMG! The so-and-so feature is broke!", if you come across any concerns, post them here. Be sure to describe the issue fully, when it occurs, and your system specs. Make sure you have the latest patch installed, too.

I am a guy from Finland and I visit quite often in pages of Subsim.com. Thanks for Neal Stevens and Co for these great pages! :salute:

I have recently purchased Silent Hunter 5-game and tried to play it via Uplay-program. In my computer is - according to the Uplay-message - something wrong whith the Internet connections (which is not true: I can use my Internet without any problems with other services).

I have mailed to UBISOFT of that Uplay-problem and we have carried on conversation of the connection problem already for a long time without any results. The UBISOFT-service has given advices to sove the problem, but these help has been of no use to me. Finally I got very angry :/\\!! to the situation, because I seemed to me, as if UBISOFT tries to put the problems of Uplay -program to the shoulders of the consumers.

I have read, that others have also had problems with this %#&# Uplay-program. Is there any law or consumer safeguard agains this kind of harmfull and useless services?

I do , A LOT , just now i realized every time I sank a particular ship the game crashed to desktop.:/\\!!

Also another annoying bug . each time I save the game at periscope depth when I load I start on the bridge but underwater even able to walk around or go to deck gun while submerged.

anyone knows a workaround?

Hi Ivan

It is not recommended to make saves submerged.

You are already experiencing some of the problems when you do this.

When the game loads it wants to load so you are at the bridge station.

You should then go below using the ladder.

Then teleport to your chosen station.

Hi guys, I've been playing SH5 with the Wolves of Steel expansion, and I find that I'm fighting against bugs more than destroyers and battleships.

The most recent one is with the hydrophone. I reached the second mission, on the east british coast. Whenever I dive to search for contacts, the hydrophone guy normally reports a contact or two and sometimes even tells me the bearing when I immediately tell him to follow the nearest one, but in a few moments he loses all contacts and can't hear anything else.

I then try to dive deeper, all the way to 40 m, but he never establishes contact again, only if I surface the boat and dive again and so on. I know it's not due to range, because I tried it with ships that were in my visual range, exact same situation and loss of contact.

I enabled all hydrophone-related patches with the TDW patcher, but to no avail. Everything worked fine on the first mission in the Baltic Sea. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm running the SH5 game that I bought on STEAM

after applying patches

and working my way through the connection problem (proxy setting disabled)

and the game playing the intro movie but not the game (Rightclick SH5.exe in the Steam Gamefolder of Silent Hunter 5 then choose Compatibilty Tab then set the X on "Disable scaling on High DPI)

then toggling Large Address Aware.exe back and forth a few times (I now understand that it's NOT necessary for SH5)

Finally, I've now gotten the mods I like installed and the game seems to be functioning reasonably well.

I still have an outstanding problem. The Recognition manual that I'm using has a number of filters but when I click on any of the choices under any of the filters ALL the ships go away. Not sure what that's about. Is that a bug in the mod, am I using it wrong? Can anybody fill me in?

I WAS using Real Environments Revision 3 but I'm guessing that it might have been causing my game to lock up.
(SO tightly that CTRL ALT DEL and a restart were my only options) - Still experimenting on that front.

I'm trying the mods that you suggested in your post but...

Is there something wrong with DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (high)?

Everything was great but when I activated DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (high) I get mostly green moving blotches below the surface. I'm guessing that a texture is missing or something.

Hello everybody,

I knwo that this topic was discussed sometimes, but as far as I see there was no solution. The thing is, that my magnetic detonators are not working. Doesnt matter if my torpedos passing 0.2m, 0.4m, 0.8m, 1.4m, 3m below the ship they are not detonating. I am pretty sure that the depth is correct, while identified the ship. I am mostly using the T1 with slow speed.

My game version is V1.2
My OS: Win7 64bit

The patches you describe may be down to your gpu not being able to handle the high resolution.

I have 4gb card but still use the DE low resolution mod as i was getting black balls appearing on the waves and this mod has cured the problem.

I am not 100% sure what you mean with patcher 4 and patcher 6, but I found two places. One in the SH5.exe and one in the SHSim.
I also thought that those patches influence only the initial settings of detonator. I mostly activating and deactivation the magnetic detonator a few times, to be sure that the setting was taking into account.

Any other idea?:hmmm:

Here is your problem as you are not playing stock.

You selected the wrong mod below from folder 2 when you should have selected the mod in folder 4

Thanks Berbster for your suggestions as to mod order. I'm now running the mod loadout listed at the end of this post, and evrything is going better.

I'm running a pretty good machine so I wanted to try the highest quality graphics and they SEEM to work great. I DID have a problem with DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (high) Not sure why but it gives me moving blocks of light green (NOT enhanced in my opinion!) After removing it, everything else worked great. The undersea rocks and flora that I went down and looked at were very detailed and realistic.

Still have some minor problems...

1) The night sky is REALLY REALLY dark even with stoianm BrighterNights modv1 which I added as a test to see if it would lighten things up. I'm gonna switch to an even brighter one that he has in hopes that that will solve my night-blindness issues. Just pumping up the Gamma Correction is an alternative too but it tends to give everything a washed out look.

2) The recognition manual no longer offers the filters that I found to not be working but is there a mod that does have them? I think that they're a great idea.

3) Instead of getting the grey circular patrol zone areas when I select a mission like the Eastern Coastal approaches, I'm given an icon of a sinking boat and when I click on that it centers my map on a quadrant. I'm guessing that that's my patrol area?

4) Just watched a 50 part You-tube "let's Play Silent Hunter 5" series by a guy called The History Nerd and he gave up in disgust when he couldn't get a resupply of the coast off the US. Is there a one of your tips on that that I've missed?

These 3 mods will give you brighter nights and you are using 2 of them.

I would remove this mod as I would think it is going to overwrite at least 1 DE mod.

You could also try this Moonlight mod and see if that also helps.

Even if it does not it will look good at night.

TDW's Options File Editor Viewer.

if you go to the UI Tab and enable Night Filters in the attack periscope station press the Hud button and you can set up the colours for the periscope filter for night time use.

This mod may, or may not work with Night Filters as this is a different interface to the default Enhanced one.

I've tried to incorporate your last round of changes and things seem better.

I'm also thinking that the last set of problems I've had with the recognition manual are all my fault. I've got some more experiments to run to prove that.

If all this goes well I'm thinking that a I might create a U-Tube video of me modding from a vanilla starting point to what I want. It might help others avoid some of the MANY mistakes I've made. Yes, the instructions are there if you dig deep enough but sometimes a visual word to the wise is helpful. If I do it, I'll be sure and credit you for your help getting ME sorted.

Its been previously suggested to me to do, but I would not know where to start.

I think also I am a bit too much of a perfectionist to be satisfied with its outcome.

Still more follow-up questions!

1) I removed stoianm BrighterNights modv1 as you suggested and even with all the other brighter night's mods the result is still way too dark. It's not just a periscope filter issue either. I couldn't even find my way to the conning tower ladder with the set-up listed below. The problem is that I tend to play this game with older than average eyes in a just slightly darkened room. Ambient light is definitely but not entirely the problem here. When I play at night things are a bit better, but it IS still problematically dark. Guess I shoulda listened when ma said "stop that or you'll go blind!":oops:

Provided that stoianm BrighterNights modv1 does work with the current mod soup, any downside to using it? If I can't get this sorted, I'll probably have to drop the DynEnv v2.9 mods and go with a more "old-eyes friendly" environmental mod mix.

2) I am pulling MoreRealisticPeriscope 1.3 by Arclight from my mod list as soon as I can get these two downloaded and installed. I am right in planning to use both, correct? In this order?

3) I downloaded SteelVikings Interior Mod V1.2 (twice now to be sure) but the archive appears to be corrupt. I posted that in the comments. Is there anything else I should do?

4) Added SH5_Type_7_RadioRoom_Tweaks_v0_0_2_byTheBeast to the tail end of my mod list but the items in the mod don't have the same red cast as the rest of the ship. Would changing the load order help in that regard?

5) I've started experimenting with the automated scripts that are available once NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith is installed. Some of the read-me's say that they are designed to run at 128 time compression. Does that mean that you need to be at 128 time compression before running them or will they set TC to 128 and then run, if I start them at slower TC? I've experimented with the one that dives your boat to 20 meters, does an all stop and then runs a hydrophone sweep before surfacing and speeding back up to 7 knots. I'm NOT sure if it's working. When I start it at a lower time compression the boat does dive and then resurfaces and set speed to 7 knots but I've yet to find any contacts. (As an aside... I understood that the best hydrophone results were achieved at 32 meters, no?)

In regards to your problems with visibility.

I cannot see a problem with using this mod on its own > stoianm BrighterNights modv1.

Although I personally have not used this combination yet, but intend too, next time in the bunker it is recommended to use DE mods 3a – 4a and 5b if you want to have brighter nights.

I do not have the night vision problem that you mention although yes, it is quite dark, but I can certainly see the ladder without any difficulty.


You need to read the documentation that comes with this mod below as it was designed for 6-3-4 not 7-5-0.

This mod I can highly recommend and is very accurate.

One concern I have is that you are looking at adding another interior mod.

If you look at the readme document with Steel Vikings mod he makes a large number of changes.

These are likely to impact on any existing mod using the same files.

Pay particular attention to the mods that are being over written.

For example if a DE mod over writes another DE mod then you will know that it is supposed to.

DE mods should be enabled in their numerical order as a guide line.

When other mods overwrite mods then you need to know that there is not going to be a problem.

Everytime a mod is over written it could be an accident waiting to happen.

That is why I always recommend that you start with an established mods list like sobers or Sjizzles to name but two that are tried and trusted.

You can also check the mod lists on my tutorial post #35 which includes sobers.

I would also suggest using the JSGME mod validator so that you can see what impact each mod is having and whether the mod has been correctly enabled.

I think I may have said previously that the sobers best ever tweaks mod
from Dynamic Environment was installed incorrectly.

If I did then that was incorrect.

What I meant to say was that the mods it contains are not up to date.

I carefully went back to a vanilla install. Verified my game cache with STEAM and then reapplied my mods and I think that I've finally found the set that works for me. (for now at least)

SteelViking's Interior Mods look GREAT
The SH5_Type_7_RadioRoom_Tweaks_v0_0_2_byTheBeast works well with it to add some seamen's clutter to an otherwise empty area on the boat.
The boat looks great as does the exterior and underwater views.
I understood what you said about Sobers Best Ever Tweaks and even located and added in some of the updated versions. I may go get the others as the spirit moves me.
Best of all I can see well enough at night to actually target stuff and walk around on deck without it maxing up the Gamma to find the conning tower.

Now.. as suggested by my in-game captain's name, Ivan T. Sinkstöff!

Hi everyone,

tldr; Deckgun crew runs away due a splash of water.

Got a question which is probably asked a million times, but the search didn't help me so sorry in advance.

It happend a couple of times now, a merchant ship near me in calm, good weather. No very high waves. I give the battle stations command, send my guys to the deckgun, and i equip the deckgun myself.

And still, the crew won't even show up at the gun. Or they show up and when the get one little splash of water in their faces they disappear again :o!
Result: i can't move / aim the gun. Merchant calmly sails away with the sound of a cursing u-boat captain fading in the distance.

If i'm right, this is due 'bad weather'. But it my cases it isn't even that bad at all.

Does someone knows a fix / mod for this?

Hi doctrine

This is unfortunately a SH5 irritation that we have to put up with.

I fire the deck gun myself so at least I know that when I cannot traverse the gun I have to get the crew back on deck and click on the deck gun icon.

Both icons need to show yellow to get the traversing working.

I have 2 deck gun tutorials on Post #10 and on Post #11 that might answer some questions.

Its my first post here, so hello everybody.

I have a problem with my sh5. I installed the wolves of steel megamod and i have a problem with my TDC attack.

I tried playing the tutorial, but the problem is, my officer cannot identify the ship.
I saw stoinam1 had an icon and he could click on it to identify a ship, but in my bar i dont have that one icon.

What to do? do i messed up and i installed something wrong? Or the new Wolves of Steel made impossible to identify ship with your officer help?

I had (actually, have) the same issue as you. The 'indentify ship' icon is missing. Since I only have the WoS mod installed, i think we didn't mess up anything but it's part of the mod. But, this is only guessing.

The only thing to do in this situation is indetify it by yourself :Kaleun_Binocular: . You can do this directly in the TDC (click the ship type eg. 'freighter'), or open the recognition manual by pressing one of the icons on the right of the screen (sorry, don't know how to explain better :) One of the icons under the captains log).

Ok, here's the prob,
I have downloaded and installed SH5 v.115,backed up the core 'Backups' and stored them in a folder on a separate drive. Sim ran fine.

I then 'Patched' to .120 and repeated the core backups again on a separate drive. Sim ran fine.

I am using TDW's Genericpatcher_v_1_0_168_0.
Upon commencing with the patcher (this is not my first install with this patcher,and the other installs were fine) the following error reports come up:
Error
Unable to open C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter\SHSim.act for verifying.
Exception is Access to path C:\Ubisoft\SilentHunter5\SHSim.act is denied

Error
5\Patches\SH5\TDW.SHSim_Patch.s5P
Exception is:

I earlier tried to reinstall core backups and had a popup tell me that
'Destination folder, Access is denied'!

I rechecked the TDW patcher files and found in 'Patches' this path
Patches\SH5\then the patches. Is this correct?
Something is not right here, and at he moment I 'believe' I am patched to v120, which is displayed on the opening screen. I am reluctant to proceed further with TDW's patcher until I can get some assistance with this prob, as previous attempts to resolve it have led to 3 uninstalls and 3 re-downloads!

Its always SHSim.act that comes up, I checked the file sizes, v115 was
804kb, and v120 is 803kb so I believe it has been updated to v120.

So there goes my first post, and its a Mayday! (lol)

I earlier tried to reinstall core backups and had a popup tell me that
'Destination folder, Access is denied'!

I rechecked the TDW patcher files and found in 'Patches' this path

Something is not right here, and at he moment I 'believe' I am patched to v120, which is displayed on the opening screen. I am reluctant to proceed further with TDW's patcher until I can get some assistance with this prob, as previous attempts to resolve it have led to 3 uninstalls and 3 re-downloads!

Its always SHSim.act that comes up, I checked the file sizes, v115 was
804kb, and v120 is 803kb so I believe it has been updated to v120.

Ok, here's the prob,
I have downloaded and installed SH5 v.115,backed up the core 'Backups' and stored them in a folder on a separate drive. Sim ran fine.

I then 'Patched' to .120 and repeated the core backups again on a separate drive. Sim ran fine.

I am using TDW's Genericpatcher_v_1_0_168_0.
Upon commencing with the patcher (this is not my first install with this patcher,and the other installs were fine) the following error reports come up:

It is not that you are being ignored I guess that no one has the answer.

I do not have the answer but I did notice this:

You notice that one says Silent Hunter and the other Silent Hunter 5

When installing the GFP your most likely path is:

C:
Ubisoft
Silent Hunter 5

The Silent Hunter 5 folder must be highlighted each time for all the 9 patches to be installed correctly.

Sometimes this does not happen and then you get errors happening.

It would appear that you have 2 folders.

One is called Silent Hunter
The other is called Silent Hunter 5

Hello guys I got the Sh5 dvd a few years back and installed it on my hardrive and I remember it was working properly. I decided to give it a shot today but i was getting this error :Camera manager could not be located in your link library. It appears my cameramanager.act file is corruped somehow. First, before we try something else -
1. Download fresh drivers for your graphics card
2. Uninstall your current ones
3. Re-boot your system
4. Install the new ones
5. Re-boot

If I was a modder I would make a diesel exhaust mod for this game.

a diesel sub running at flank speed without a massive tail of filthy dark black smoke following it around takes away from the realism.

when the watch officer calls "smoke on the horizon" and every ship in sight has a massive tower of black smoke hanging over it but your uboat is propelled by a magical no exhaust diesel engine then there is a major break in the logic. at least this is the case in my mind.

maybe ill just get used to it.

but if a knew how to mod I would take care of this.

TDW has such a mod but there must be compatibility issues with his WoS mod pack since it is not included.

Hi TH,. Make sure you have admin rights in windows user account. If you have, try to copy your backed up files to your documents folder. Then copy them from documents to your Silent Hunter installation directory. This work for me on an MS outlook pst file that did not want to import.

You said that you used the patcher before.

Are you using the patcher as a stand alone or is installed from inside TDW's NewUI base mod?

If it was in previous use did you disable the patches first?

If it is a standalone patcher have a look at my tutorial on post #2 and check that you installed as per my instructions?

Most problems concerning installing the patcher happen because a mistake is made when selecting the correct folder for each of the 9 patchers.

If you hover your mouse over the SH5.exe icon you will see your game version.

Properties.

Also in the Control Panel.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this problem... I'm pretty stuck at first mission of the campaign... The Baltic Operations. I sunk the Polish task force, reported it and sunk 4 more Polish merchants and went to Kiel, and all objectives were completed but only mission I can select now is Baltic Operations... I have Wolves of Steel installed but no further mods. What to do now? :06:

Missions are date controlled.

If you ended the Baltic patrol on September 2nd the next mission Eastern British Coastal Waters does not start until the 4th of September.

So although you can see it you cannot select that new mission until the day it starts the 4th.

My tutorial Post #107 explains in more detail.

Hello all I have a copy of SH5 that works fine. but is version 10.5
Someone told me I have to download the new wrapper from paulthetall to get the newer version without all the bugs.
So I did that, but the new wrapper opens and closes right away. I downloaded the program but when I want to play the simulation, it will go to the first screen then the intro and then shut down. no error message just a shut down. Does anyone else have that issue or a solution to it? I run the latest yosemite version

First of all if you have TWOS you are better off posting any problems to this dedicated thread.

Just go to the last page.

The Wolves Of Steel Thread. (TWOS) (Posts 1 & 2 By vdr1981 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2165720&postcount=1)

If you have installed the Generic Patcher then select Restore Snapshot and Browse to find the Snapshot Folder that comes with Generic Patcher.

In the Snapshot folder is the GPS file you need.

Double click on it with your mouse and it will enable.

I dont know wheter its a Twos Problem or Not, just installed the game After years again and imeadiatly patched it...
But i cant remember crashes the last time i had it installed

So installing the Generic Patcher is just done running it and giving it all the paths for the Files it wants to modify right?
Im sure i couldnt click restore Button or it didnt found the snapshot GPS...

Sry that im Not able to give absulute Infos but i cant use my computer until the weekend

I have not seen this issue posted nor found anything via Google.

I have a legit copy of SH5 via Uplay. It is patched to 1.2.

The only Mods I am using is the Wolves of steel Mega mod pack + WoS Patch 5 and patch 5 hotfix in that order.

My issue was initially a freeze after I leave Kiel harbour to head towards the UK. (after completing Danzig and heading to Kiel I made a save when I entered the bunker. On reload I ask to get a new mission but only had a repeat of Danzig. I take Danzig, enter patrol then re-enter base and speak to mission giver where the new missions are available so I take the Missions near the UK. I usually get a freeze traveling up the baltic sea.)

Then I decided not to take Danzig mission again in case it was causing conflicts so I would talk to mission giver where the UK missions were not available, I would choose to go on patrol with no mission and then re-enter the base to choose the next missions. This time I get a CTD every time I get out of the harbour and onto the open sea.

I have managed to get onto the UK missions before but that was stock SH5.

I was hoping someone may have come across this before and could put me right.

Kiel has always been CTD monster but later in the campaign when you get transfer to a new base things are going to be much better.
However , if you've followed installation steps (especially step 6 and 7) and my tips for stable gameplay correctly , you really should not have that kind of problems.

BI would get a ctd from the Baltic mission about 30% of career starts . I find that if you get a ctd it is best to just start a new campaign . Loading a previous save usually doesn't work . My current campaign has over 75 saves with no ctds :yep:

Using Dynamic Environment 2.9 + Camera Filters (Realistic colors) the underwater view lacks some textures [I think] 'cos there are lots of blank (actually green) rectangles. If I remove the filter mod the view is 100% ok.

Any tip? From that mod I tried "1. Main Mod" + "3.b Enhanced visibility" + "4.a Camera Filters - Realistic Colors" + "9. Sobers Best Ever Tweaks" altogether and as said I had to remove the 3.b...

Hey guys, I just upgraded my graphics card from a HD4850 which ran SH5 well to a MSI Geforce GTX 750 Ti. The game still runs well but now when I go to the bridge and look to the bow, the deck of the U-boat looks like it has white paint splattered all over it. Wasn't there before with the Radeon Card, and I've seen other people with artifacts using GTX cards, but not this specifically. Is anyone else using a 750 Ti successfully with the game and if so could you tell me what drivers you're using? I'm already using the latest official drivers. Any other suggestions are appreciated as well.

Screenshot attached - it's distorted and black and white for some reason, but gives you the idea.

--update: Okay it's definitely something with the sun light graphics... it goes away when I turn the boat away from the sun,. and comes back when I turn the boat into the sun again. But now I have no idea how to troubleshoot this or where to start...any suggestions?


I'm noticing quite a few artifacts as well...starting to miss my Radeon HD4850 already.

yup..needed to surface and pop the hatches and air out the compartments.

I've been playing with graphics settings and still haven't gotten rid of the white color on the bow/deck of the u-boat. I did notice that if I go to 3d view and rotate the camera, the graphic glitch goes away and the deck looks normal again, but when I adjust the camera to the bridge view position looking to the bow, it is back. Also the sun is directly beaming in front of the u-boat--so I don't know if it is related to the sun light graphics. It almost looks like the white water/splash graphics from the bow and around the front of the u-boat is visible through the deck graphics, as if the deck became sort of transparent - another guess. Does anyone else have this problem with the 750 ti and did you fix it?

For both the fuel and the free cam, go into the game options and ensure that you don't have infinite fuel enabled and the external cam deactivated. The external view can be activated by pressed the F2 key. If that isn't the problem then I'm not sure. Hope it helps! :salute:

free cam issue fixed. i had no idea i had to use w s a d to control it. its not mentioned on keyboard controls. thanks all.

I know it is very late and the Game is no more supported.
Nevertheless i want to report a Bug :smug:

I detected 2 enemy U-Boats/Submarines :rock:
Now i wanted to hear them trough Hydrophone, but if i enter the Hydrophone, the Game crashes immediatly, every time if i try it.

Do you have this issue too?
Maybe it is hard for you to retrace/test this bug, because enemy U-Boats/Submarines are rare to meet.

I tested the Hydrophone in other Savegames with other Ships: no problems.
After i sunk both enemy Submarines (c below how), i could enter the Hydrophon-Station again without a crash.
So the enemy U-boats/Submarines must be definitely the reason for the Crashs :know:
Maybe a Sound Error or something with the soundfile, how a Submarine noises through a Hydrophone.

Hello - like your Tonkin patch...been there done that (But not in the Gulf). I have SH5 - ran it ok in XP but in WIn 7 pro 64 bit all I get is the vid beginning and nothing else! That's a pain in the ass huge f**king bug. So far no help from anyone including Ubisoft (can't hold my breath forever). Any ideas? As far as The Republic of....USN, never again!

First post. I'm probably breaking some protocol here but I'm here to vent a little. I know I am new, very new, but I've been around games a while (pre-internet gaming days) and while I'm not a current gamer I got interested in SH5 a few weeks and ago and the idea of the sim drew me back in. Earlier sub sim was Red October on my Amiga 500 (just to date myself a little).

Man, I have never seen such a buggy game, from the install, uninstall, install, uninstall, and install to finally get full screen, sound, and past the opening movie issue to the ctd randomly and the first mission progress bar not being filled. Considering this is the 5th game in what seems like a well established series of sub sims I would have hoped for better. Thankfully there are the folks here who have patched, modded, and offer their experience, tips, and techniques to make the game worth playing.

Thank you to those who provide that help.

Okay. I've read the manual which does nothing to teach a person what they should be doing in the game, unless I am missing something (Like ANOTHER manual). But my friend, Youtube, google, and this site have gotten me on track for the most part. But some questions still linger:

Do I have to walk in 1st person mode to the various parts of the sub, say from the sonar room to the periscope or from the conning tower back inside (did I complain about the horrid control to look down and go in the hatch, I've played my fair share of FPV shooters and these guys failed here). Is there a hot key to get me from one position in the sub to another? If not, I guess I get it - part of the simulation of 'really' being there... but damn.

What about some basic tips on what to do in the area you are assigned. I feel like I am wandering around rather aimlessly and just coming across targets by random luck, aren't there shipping lanes I should be haunting? Are there some actual patrol patterns I could be using to increase my chance of finding a contact?

I have recently begun paying attention to the note thing (log?) in the lower right corner which seems to give radio contact information I may be able to act on - right?

Well, I know if I spend some more time here reading (and not bitching) I'll probably learn everything I need to know, so I'll do that, don't worry I'm not here to just complain about the game and expect everyone to give me the answers (some hints may be nice though). It's a neat game, and many of you have done SO much to make it better, I see that. I will do my best to learn it more, I've certainly come a long way in the short two weeks I've been playing it. I just felt like venting a little, I hope you understand.

Graphics fully low (still seems to tax my lappy though)

Geforce M330 (During the install it mentioned something about my graphics driver not meeting specs... could it be seeing the integrated graphics vs the geforce chip? I would think this game would not tax my computer like it is) Using the most recent geforce drivers.

SH5 is an old game and will not recognise later GPU,s.

It also states that you only need 512gb of ram which at the time you woul have got away with.

The minimum requirement today to run SH5 with mods will be 2gb of ram.

Hi everybody,

as seen on the screenshot above I'm having troubles with my loop antenna and a mysterious 3rd periscope or radar antenna pole appearing instead.

After a fresh installation everything works fine for a while, but at some time when I'm loading a saved game my loop antenna disappears and that weird radar antenna pole appears, which can't be retracted (at least I don't know how to)...

As the only mod I'm running "The Wolves of Steel", would be glad if someone could help me here... :cool:

I'm usually loading my own saved games, and I always use unique names, so I don't overwrite old saved games.

But recently I was forced to reload a autosave as SH5 crashed, and the problem appeared again soon after.
(Unfortunately I can't tell exactly WHEN the bug reappeared, cause I weren't actively looking for it anymore since the last fresh installation as I thought it was gone).
Do you think a corrupted autosave file might have caused the problem? And is there a way to easily fix that, besides a fresh installation?

THANK YOU FINALLY!!! So it seems what you have done is kept the missions and objectives in and overall tonnage tracking in, but turned it to be more SH3 like?? Just choose a mission by date and head there.

Exactly... Individual objectives and other stuff are still there but they are date (not tonnage) controlled.:yep:.

Default tonnage bar concept was vary bad in many ways...For example, the game would count neutral ship kill if done in appropriate area and it will fill your tonnage bar, but at the same time the game will also give you negative rating points...Ridiculous...:rotfl2:

By default , developers set unrealistically high underwater view range just to "mask" their mistake...:nope:

If we adjust underwater visual range to more realistic values like in SH3 or SH4, then developers sloppy work becomes even more obvious.

But, I choose realistic values even if that requires to disable 3D clouds option temporally while I'm submerged...:yep:

Hi guys.


Firstly a big thank-you to all you modders.


I have the WoS 1.04 with patch 1 installed. I have followed the install instructions to the book.


The problem I am having is that when I give the command for periscope depth the periscope depth process begins as normal but stops when the engine is switched to electric at around 10 meters and the process icon on the right freezes at around 80% and stays there displayed. Also the engine actually stops (according to the dial) Then if I click on the dial for minimum speed a voice will say “speed one third” or something like that but always a speed higher than what I selected.
Also if I click on the depth gauge/dial it will cancel out my engine speed dial (goes to stop)and visa versa.


I have tried a number of reinstalls and searched this problem but I cannot find anyone else having this problem.


I own the collectors edition of SH5 which I purchased on release.


My system is
Windows 7 64bit.
AMD phenom 965 quad core.
AMD hd7770 1gig
8 gig ram (although sh5 detects 4 gig)

Sure, but did you reinstall your game after you removed unwanted mods or you have just continued your campaign ?
SH gamesaves are enormously complex and changing game files while in the campaign can almost always lead to CTD.. When you adding/removing mods (especially complex as NewUis) almost always campaign restart in needed or oven full game reinstallation.

Just glad I didn't fork out for this rubbish and being a non computer person trying to troll through all the tutorial on the MODS spending time doing it as written and then still getting issues just not willing to spend hours days and weeks for there to suddenly be an issue later on and loose my progress .

How can I fix this? Kinda sucks knowing the game is pointless because I never achieve objectives.
The only mission I get credit for is the Tutorial Mission. After that, I can sink a million tons around Britain and nothing....

Save yourself a lot of hassle and take a look at the TWOS mega mod.
This is the way forward for SH5 and is constantly being updated by the modder Vecko to get the best out of the game.
The YouTube videos show TWOS in action.
Check out the TWOS post #1 and see if it appeals to you.
I can highly recommend it and is a very stable platform.

Installed Wolves of steel mega mod with no other mods. I have reinstalled once and before this (running my own mod soup until now) never had this problem.

The problem is that I cant identify ships! There is no option, I lock on with spacebar and then it just says warship so I cant select what ship it is Im seeing. Im probably just doing something wrong that I have forgotten about being lost at sea all this time... :ahoy:

Wait so if I understand this correctly the option to select what ship it is in the dialog is now removed and I know send the information to the TDC with the ship recognition manual? I don't really get any confirmation that the information is sent to the TDC so it's just a bit confusing to me :hmm2: sry!

Sry for being a pain in the ass, must get a bit tedious explaining this again and agian for people like me! :D

You'll see your confirmation if you click on "range" word in XO dialog menu after you've applied ""send data to tdc" in rec. manual . The Mast height will be updated...:yep:

Got a new problem though, the speed of my u-boat is a bit incorrect. In the picture here you can see that I have given the order of "Ahead slow" but it stays at "minimum speed". The speed seems to be delayed by one all the time, and in the end that means I can't stop at all it sits at minimum speed :(

Thanks, finally found it after browsing the FAQ about three time, I must be blind! :arrgh!:

Unfortunately the answer was a bit of a let down, as I understand it WoS broke the command in one of the patches and now I simply can't stop my u-boat as I get stuck on "minimum speed" or have to play with SH3 UI. Being able to stop your u-boat is quite important. There is no fix then? :o Thought it was just some weird key mapping issue but I guess not.

You can use up and down keys to select "All stop" with SH5 Enhanced UI or...You can click "1/3 ahead" (level 2) and then select "all stop" or...Press lctrl and command 0 kn speed...As you can see , there are number of possibilities, you just need to explore them...

Well, I bought SH5 for 2,95 € few days ago on the Ubisoft-Store (http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubiemea/de_DE/pd/ThemeID.8605700/productID.179690300).

I played the tutorial mission and the first german mission british coastal water.
After that i went back to bremerhafen, and safed the game.
Now I wanted to go to next mission "british supplies" but the mission bar won't fill up.

I've read every thread here, but i don't know, what really is to do o.O
Is this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181433) fixing the problem, or Openhorizons or something else?

that tonnage bar is a old annoying bug.... fix for that bug can be found here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=222470)
i really suggest u to play with TWoS mega mod which one can be found here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=222470)
and also TWoS remove the tonnage bur from the game befor install TWoS read all the mega mod documentation and also there is a video hoow to install the mega mod here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pevSVIsmxhs)
and also u will ned the TDW's generic patcher which one fix 95% of the vanilla game bugs how to use the patcher here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=205620)

do not play the vanilla version of the game is damn buggy and unplayable .....

PS. the game must be version 1.2 to use TWoS and tdw's generic patcher !!!!

I dont know, which version i have. I downloaded the game over uplay, and think, that it will be the latest version, becouse patch 1.1 and patch 1.2 which i downloaded seperatly wont be installed.

I will try the mods.

as i have said in the above post the vanilla game is bugged unplayable u need the tdw's patcher to solve the bugs and and TWoS mega mod for a enjoyable game play

But isn't TWoS mega mod not a mod with some optical changes?
I just want Silent Hunter 5 in vanilla-optical style without any optical changes :/

So after not playing silent hunter 5 for a long time i finally got back into it but it seems that the mods i have installed and enabled with JGSME arent working. For example: i have the 88mm railgun mod and critical hits torpedoes v1.1 which has become essential for me just arent working in-game.

Any help?

Hello and a happy new year to all.

I have sorted out many problems with the game in the last days but there are 2 points i need a little help.

1. Jumping settings: the game is changes the settings and I have no idea why. It is not a problem of WOS! It is also for SH5 Basic fresh installed. I have tried to make an manual overwrite but this is not the solution.

2. Last Version of new UI: The point a want to mark on the map and the point that is marked are not the same 5 cm! :huh:

The rest of the game is working very well, also the progress of the campaigns. Many thanks for all that have found a solution! :up:

Hello,

found a solution by overwriting a saved game without leaving the game. Did it during normal game save. So it works:).

Is there any link where I can see the goals of the missions?

found a solution by overwriting a saved game without leaving the game. Did it during normal game save. So it works:).I do not advise doing this as this is a likely cause to give you a ctd or a corrupt game save.
Always make your own game saves by typing in the box at the bottom of the screen. This will overwrite any automatic game save that has occurred during your game play session.
Rather than just resuming your game I would advise exiting to the main menu and loading the new game save.
Do not save games while submerged or within 60km of any destroyed marks.
A point to remember is that it is not how many game saves you make but how you make them.

Here's a problem that's been driving me crazy with SH5 and I'm at my wits end trying to figure it out. The problem only shows itself when I try to play a campaign. Regardless of the mods i use, whenever I start the campaign none of the info bars along the bottom or sides show up. It's like the hud was turned off. I can't plot courses from the nav screen or move the screen with the mouse. The only thing that brings back most of the hud info is if I fire all 4 forward torps, regardless if I sank the ship with one or two. I have to shoot off whatever is left to get the bottom and left side hud back. I also now can plot courses and move the nav mao with the mouse. The right side hud with the time compression icons, and the ones on the right that give stations won't come back at all and I haven't figured out how to get them. and lastly, if I hit the "K" key to try and bring up the captain's log, or click any icon for the log, the game locks solid and I have to Cntrl-Alt-Del my way out.

As and added kick in the butt, the single historical missions work fine with all the mods I've used to date. Everything works fine, it's only the campaign thats giving me gas. :/\\!!

If anyone has any insight into this, im all ears and would appreciate the help. I tried a search for my problem before i posted this but i came up blank. Thanks again for any help you can give me.

I have found how to do it. Probably somebody else has same problem.
If so, just open General Settings of the Uplay and disable FPS showing on the screen.

Having a blast in SH5, and thanks to everyone who has gone before in terms of bug fixes and the WoS Mod.

Couple of issues that I have found, and I have searched in vain on the forum, so apologies if I have missed the key piece of information:

1. I cannot use the Stadimeter. I mark the target, click "range" in the XO box, and then click Use Stadimeter. I then try and click the little circle in the TDC marked Stadimeter, and nothing happens. What am I missing? It is a bug or is is PICINIC (problem in chair not in computer)

2. I try and use the Sextand, and the Enable Sextant window is slap bang in the middle of the sight. Do I have to set a reference Azimuth, and then look up.

Rmax, with twos on board you can only use stadimeter when you click button above range dial in the attack periscope view or UZO . Of course, you have to mark your target with space key first.

hi all
i have a very annoying problem, i have twos with the last update, but the sky, just on top of the connig tower, stiil flashing, showing a corrupted mass of polygons ...sometimes i have that over the horizon, no matter if is sh5 vanilla, modded, or driver related, 344.75 currently on w7

anyone have experienced this??or Im the only one?what can I do?:/\\!!

Just now i continued to shadow 5-6 kts convoy of +- 30 ships, i just let TC64 for 30 minutes and the convoy is gone :hmmm:

Naah, they probably changed course and move outside of your rendering area (40 km)...Convoys are zig-zaging during their journey...:yep:

30min of real or sim time...:hmm2:

Submerge, hear.. Nothing! Their was just 10km heading to Atlantic from western approaches. Trying again..

never increase your TC near convoy or single ships cos they disappear or will change the direction and all your waiting and hunting time is waste and also never save the game near them cos when u load again that save game is pretty high chance to disappear

To not to be always negative, escorts AI can bring really awesome results by its flaws since you try to attack from inside of convoy.
I attacked left flanks from just before center, it was like 10 rows of large ore merchants and Cimarrons and escorts try to search me somewhere else from start, merchants became chaotic like attacked sheep's.
From 3 eels 2 was dud, one destroyed large ore transport.
As i tried attack more, they spotted my asparagus and i went deeper, escorts tried to find me, but they where pretty confused, probably by sounds of merchants everywhere around.
Shame of 2/3 duds, but it was real fun :salute:

I'm pretty sure there was another one which was not heard at hydrophone while he was moving and tracking me be asdic. The second one was heard and was moving away while this ghost attacked me by depth charges, while i was expecting depth charges throws the heard one out of me ****ing UBI!!!! :wah:
