I am having a weird graphic glitch or something. I have mods installed and it was only after I installed some mods where this now happens.

Here is a pic of my problem:

Does anyone know what the issue might be that is causing these random blocks to appear lol?

It only happens when I put the camera underwater but when out of water everything is fine and looks normal.

I am currently disabling each mod at a time that I think is causing the issue but so far the problem is still there :(

Edit: Nvm I found the mod folder that was causing these blocks to appear. The Dynamic Environment enhanced visibility high folder. I will see if the medium or low version of the folder have the blocks appear as well.

It's a stock bug.. sometimes this happened.. try save/load, maybe it will help..

If you don't have SH5 in Inspector's profiles, open your stock nvidia pannel and choose SH5.exe in programs. Close it and go back in Inspector, you should find SH5 now :03:

I can find sh5 in inspector just wish they had a profile for it from the list.
I selected Crysis 3 profile and set it to SH5exe and its working good .

Alright, so this isn't exactly a bug... but I didn't want to start a new thread and I've been looking to get this off my chest for some time.

I've been playing SH5 using mods for so long now that I haven't seen the intro video in a while. I just reinstalled and was reminded of this, haha!

You'll notice at about 0:13 there is a shirtless dude that turns and walks into the captains bunk area. Maybe it's just me, but I find this quite odd. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when the devs discussed putting THAT in the video!

Started playing this last summer but stopped when uplay updated in july and all my ubisoft games stopped working. So, new computer in Nov. started putting all my games on and decide to give another try. Really wanted to give the mods a go so I became a member and downloaded Sobers megamod and started the process of trying to set everything up. I was expecting it to be somewhat taxing, but wow, problems right from the start. downloaded the game and it doesn't update. I find a thread that suggests running the updater manually, it works, Yea! Updates to 1.2, now the game won't run. When I try to start from the SH5 exe. I get a message saying i need a file called Particles.act and to reinstall the game which I have done now about 10 times. If I go to the uplay launcher and try to start the game it says
Process ID=0x87c (2172), Thread ID=0x1404 (5124) and then says something about debugging.

I just tried to start it again and it just says thank for playing and bumps me out... sigh. Anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this has been answered before , I spent a lot off time looking through this thread but didn't see anything relevant.

I am haveing problems with some torpedos where i am attacking a convoy currently and am hitting a warship that is protecting it. But every time i fire torpedos they hit at an almost 90* angle but they hit then they sit there and then appear to go under it and i dont know how to change this i have the depth for the torpedos at 1.3 meters so i dont understand what is happening.

DDs can be very shallow drafted. This can ge worse if the waves are large. Try 1.1:up:

When I play historical missions, I run into problems if I use more than 2 saves. One works fine, and when I access it, the mission name is displayed properly. But the second one has 'GENERIC Mission' in the save file display. And in it, TDC is not working properly. I can't lock onto targets, and the 'Follow Ship' setting is grayed out(I'm using TDW's UI), making it impossible for me to use my normal targeting procedure.

Also, the 'In Spite Of Everything' mission has an issue with the battleship itself. I manage 3 direct hits to Warspite...but I still get the 'Failed' screen.

a am new here, I tried to ready some threads before replying, but too many post, so excuse me if my question was already answered before.

I have 2 bugs (or I have missed something...) for SH5:

1) It happen today (1st time) that after surfacing, the diesel engine start working fine, but there is none on the bridge with me, and the CO2 level continue growing. I tried to go deeply again and return to surface again, but still same problem. I do not understand, if the diesel engine starts, mean that the game "understands" that I am in surface, so why CO2 and Crew is not going well?

2) voices of my crew sometimes "disappear"

The CO2 problem is a pretty common occurrence. Many say it is due to using ALT-TAB to leave a game in progress and then return, although sometimes it can occur without doing this. THERE IS AN EASY FIX!

Exit the mission/patrol/career with the options key. Save the game in progress. Clost the game and return to tyour desktop. Restart the game. Load your save. The CO2 problem will be gone.

Finally got my game patched to 1.2 and running, loaded up sobers mod list but every time I try to start a new campaign using open horizons it crashes. I have skipped the tutorial as suggested, but I have been having trouble deleting my old save games and I wonder if that might be the problem. I did a new install of the game, deleted the save games from my documents, updated the game to 1.2, turned uplay to offline mode, but every time I start the game it syncs to the server and all the old save games come back. Anyone have any ideas?

Please give us your mod list and specs.

In the meantime - try the d3d Antilag (http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/BadgerFinn)
Make sure you apply it properly - it is NOT an ordinary mod to be actiavated in JSGME - read the 'readme.txt' file

You shouldn't have any issues like this with Sober's mod list.
But, please tell how did you 'skip tutorials'?
If you go to; 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5\data\cfg\CarreerHistory' you should just change - 'HasCompletedTutorial=false' > 'HasCompletedTutorial=true'. Yoy can open it with Note Pad, make sure you save it in the same place in .txt format.
That's it! No more need for tutorials, ever.

Whenever you reinstall SH5 make sure you;
1. Backup your; 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5' folder (this is where your game progress, profiles and campaigns are stored)
2. Backup the; 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS' folder
3. Uninstall SH5
4. Delete the 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5' folder (if it's still there)
5. Scan for leftovers (I use the CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download))
6. Re-install SH5
7. Launch SH5 to check it's running OK
8. Paste the backup 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5 folder' into; 'C:\Users\Documents' and let it overwrite
9. Paste a copy of the; 'jsgme setup' into the 'C:\ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5' folder
10. Run the 'jsgme setup' once to make it create the 'MODS' folder
11. Paste the backup 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS' folder into; 'C:\Users\Documents\Silent Hunter 5'

Activate whatever mods you like and launch SH5.

For whatever questions you might have - you're welcome, anytime :up:

Thanks for the reply Silent Steel but still no luck. I had already edited the cfg file to read true. I backed up the SH5 Documents folder and the Mods folder,uninstalled the game ran cccleaner, reinstalled, patched, started the game and it started up fine but it still syncs to the server and recovers my save games that I had deleted from my machine. So I delete the saves again, then pasted in the SH5 file into documents and overwrote the one that was there, ran jsgme and pasted in the old mods folder, activated the sober mep, Started up the Game again. The game loads and I get the openhorizons splash screen, but still, every time I start the game the first thing it does is sync my save games to the server. I have the uplay set to start in offline mode, is there some other switch that I'm missing? I delete the save games from the saves folder but then it syncs and they come back. When I start the saves are all there. So onward, I start a new campaign, I type in silentotto, select the first campaign, i'm given the option to skip the tutorial which I do, the loading screen with sobers green spinning thing comes up, it loads for about 60 secs and dumps me out to the thanks for playing screen in uplay. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, anyone have an answer? Also I did start up one of my old saves that was restored and I could see that some of the mods were working. But I really want to start a whole new campaign using openhorizons. Thanks everyone :wah:

Generally it is a directory where your sh5.exe is.
Most of the time it is located at: C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\

Notepad++ should have no problem editing that cfg file. I use Notepad++ for many many many editings of the game files and had no problems so far. Make sure you extract the files out of the archive first, as you cannot edit any files while they are still archived.

Thanks Targor but still no joy. I did what you suggested. I didn't mention earlier that I originally purchased the game through Game Stop. After I deleted the uplay I had to download it from Game Stop again, and their version seems to have some issue. It wouldn't start at all, it would kick me back to the uplay launcher and give an error message, and something about a debug, I posted about that error a few days ago on this thread but got no replies. So i deleted everything AGAIN:yep: except the uplay launcher, then downloaded it from uplay, started the game, and it works, AND this time it doesn't sync my old saves, it appears I have a clean new install. So I update to 1.2, start a game again,it works. Load jsgme and sobers mod list start again, forget to edit the config file and it won't let me skip the tutorial, exit, edit the config file, restart, skip the tutorial, start a new campaign, and same thing, loads for 60 sec. or so and boots back to the uplay screen and says thanks for playing:/\\!! Really don't know what to do at this point, spent most of the last two days trying to get this to work, REALLY want to play with openhorizions but .... Anyway thanks to all of you here at Subsim, you guys are great and clearly trying to help, any other suggestions?

I did change the config file, and get the option to skip the tutorial when I start a new campaign, but when I start the campaign it loads for about 45-60 secs and then dumps me back to the uplay launcher. :subsim:

Are you 100% sure you do this;

and then
2. Save it as an .cfg file?

I ask this because when you open it in Word Pad and then want to save it as a .cfg file the default is .txt > You have to choose file format 'All files'! Only this way the file will be saved as a .cfg file

I am trying to dock in the sub pens at Wilhelmshaven to have my sub repaired and I'm not getting the icon. I'm trying to finish the second mission but I've got a lot of damage and need repairs. I did all the research I can: My sub icon is indeed at Wilhelmshaven (switched ports on me while at sea), I watched the youtube video Silent Hunter V - Docking at the sub pens (http://youtu.be/3YwhLfe7Kzs) and followed it step by step with no joy. Pressing shift+z toggles my UI but doesn't produce a docking icon.

I have sober's mega mod installed with real navigation and realistic underwater disabled. Any ideas? I'm at a total loss here. :06:

If you are pretty sure your home base is Wilhelmshaven try to save → completely quit → load last save

Wow, sometimes the most obvious solution is the best. As soon as I loaded it up, I could dock. I was so frustrated last night trying to dock and I didn't even think of this. :oops:

im on the mission "british supplies" and...i've searched the general areas it tells me to, and i cannot for the life of me...locate any ships....whats the deal?

I got SH5 through Steam so could mine be somwhere else because of this?

I unloaded all the mods as suggested by Targor, changed my config file and saved properly as suggested by Silent Steel, and still no progress, game starts to load and then dumps me back to uplay. But then I disable TDW Ship Inertia as suggested by volodya61 and it works! So thanks again for all the help, now off to the west coast of Britain!

Place the antilag files in the folder you have open in that picture:up:

So in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunter 5

Add the files:-

antilag.cfg
d3d9.dll

One of the points that KARAMAZOVNEW made back in 2010 for new players starting a tutorial is that there is no time compression icons. Pressing your F1 key shows that + and - keys work time compression and you need the \ key to go 1x for GB type keyboards

whenever i dive...it wont stop diving..just keeps going and going, even trying to manually set my dive, it still will dive me to the bottom..and maintaining depth doesnt work either, anyone know what causes this?

whenever i dive...it wont stop diving..just keeps going and going, even trying to manually set my dive, it still will dive me to the bottom..and maintaining depth doesnt work either, anyone know what causes this?

Hi Axeman and welcome to subsim:salute:

It could be that your blank screen on loading is just the game loading.
If you use some of the pop mods on here - the time the game takes to load is increased. Give it a few more mins (coffee, smoke, make more coffee:D).

If it still does not load - try alt+tab out of the game to see if you are getting any warning boxes

Just returned from mission 3 in "total germany" with everything working fine. Skipped in and out of port a few times to get to March so I could do the Narvik mission. Aboout mid February, decided to check and see if I could have any upgrades and found several wierd issues.

1. I no longer had a deck gun slot. (have only options for the conning tower and conning flak gun). My deck gun that was there when I came into port had disappeared.
2. Both the "sensor" and "camouflage" tabs were entirely blank, i.e. no options to add, remove or change anything at all and no listing of what is equipped.

I get the impression this might be caused by a mod, so disabled all and tried re-enabling one at a time, but just can't get this to fix. The wierd thing is that it was working fine and then stopped after a couple of times skipping in and out of port.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Edited to add I then went back and found the latest saved game with the deck gun active. After finishing the mission (and using the gun), I returned to port, where the deck gun option was there in the "fittings" dialogue, as were the sensor and comouflage options.

However, on leaving port, I discovered that the deck gun was no longer fitted and on returning the option was no longer there!

Updated to 1.2
I have no mods
I played through the tutorial mission
started a new patrol heading to the english east coast.
The problem remains.

From the attack scope:
I don't know how to upload a pic but basically I don't have any officer icons at the bottom of the screen, on the left where the TDC controls used to be is just the basic tube select and fire button from the tutorial, on the right i have the red button with an X in it, the time compression controls, map, crew, and log buttons.
I think I'm missing some info at the top where the mission instructions are displayed.
at the bottom left i have the basic depth, speed, and direction controls.

any UI mods that i install don't seem to have any effect at all.

I'm using windows 7 64 bit.
Is there a registry entry from an old install causing the problem?

OK Python, good to see you around and welcome :salute:

Let's try this:

Firstly - To check that the JSGME isn't corrupted please read this How to Fix Mod Soup Issue by Webster (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1228828&postcount=1). One thing to point out is that when you move your mods to the desktop this means the mods ONLY, not the !BACKUP and !INSTLOGS folders remain.

If these issues still persist I'd say this is because a corrupt install. My suggestion is to make a complete reinstall of SH5.
Before uninstalling - make a copy of your 'C:\Users\'user account's name'\Documents\SH5
This is where all saves, personal settings and game progress are stored. After the reinstall - Put the copy back to the same place (in the Documents folder)

After the uninstall;
1. Delete all folders in the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 folder! And (what I suggest) run th e CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) to make sure no leftovers are there
2. Reinstall SH5
3. Run SH5 at least once just to make sure the game gets patched to v1.2.0.
Should happen automatically but IF it doesn't - run the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe
4. Download a new JSGME (http://www.gamefront.com/files/21681483)
5. Put the ' jsgme_setup_v2.3.1.exe' into the 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5' folder and run it.
During this first run the JSGME should ask you if you'd like to create a 'MODS' folder > answer 'Yes'.
This new MODS folder has to be the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder.

Ready to go.
Put your mods in this 'MODS' folder and remember to check that your mods have the have this; 'mod's name'\data. Nothing more and nothing less.

All of them!

CTD with a ship kill can be a few issues
It can be that that ship was not an enemy.
Have you updated to v1.2?

1. Go to -

Thank you all for your help. It was during the tutorial without any mods, but I installed the Open Horizons mod and now it works! I then uninstalled the mod to see if it works without it and it does now. Hmmm. Oh well, I'm certainly not complaining hahaha.

Dunno if'n this has been reported before but:

I had just dived to 20m, the Electric Propulsion had just kicked in, when the the Ubisoft Autosave feature did its thing (Even though I play Offline - go figure!!) :hmmm:

Anyway, I had needs to shut down shortly after and do other things.

"Herr Kaleun, your washing needs sorting out"
"Ja, ja, "(damned @#%$!#@% Bdu orders!!)"" :salute:

So I come back later and restart the game, load up last save - Ubisoft auto - and find that I have no propulsion AT ALL even after surfacing. :wah:

On the 2nd exit, shutdown, restart, reload routine, after surfacing the boat my Diesels kicked in and I was able to proceed as normal even when underwater.

Anyone know why this happens or if there's a preventative?

Hey guys.

I'm new to SH5. I patched the game to 1.2 using an .exe I downloaded from UBI. I've installed JSGME and I'm using Darkwraith's mod pack.

So far its been working great, I'm at just under 81k tones of merchants ship sunk. I'm now 400km due west of Best, France and I've come across an aircraft carrier snd a bunch of destroyer escorts. The problem I've got is no matter how many times I reload my save point I can't lock on to carrier. I can lock on to the destroyers around it with no problem, but I just can't lock on to the carrier itself.

Is there something I'm missing in the setting? Or is this a bug?

I'm on full realism but with external camera enabled.

Look in your \Silent Hunter 5 folder and see if you have that file. If you don't then it's a valid error.

Yes, you can.. just save the folder Documents/SH5 or don't allow to remove it while uninstalling..

Perhaps it's not possible mid-patrol.. I think you can do it only in a bunker save..

Perhaps it's possible, seeing as it doesn't edit any campaign files. But to be safe, follow voldoya's advice. Bunker saves are the safest saves (so much saving in that sentence :doh:)

I am able to shoot stuff with torpedos now, after about an hour of play time and 2 ships sunk, I was shooting my deck gun at a merchant and got an CTD during a HE shell explosion. This might be just a random SH CTD, or it could be OH related. Either way, I can shoot torpedos now so I owe you a cold beer :D

So I just grabbed Silent Hunter 5 off Amazon to be quite disappointed as the game is not running very well. (or at all)

I start the first mission, listen to the starting dialogue about the captain wanting to see me then nothing happens. I can press WASD and I'll hear footsteps. I can press Shift and U to jump to the bridge and I'll see nothing, just a grey backdrop. If I press F2 and fly around with the camera I can see my sub suspended in nothingness. I can walk around the bridge but soon as I descend back into the sub the camera will freeze but footsteps will continue.

Specs;

intel i5 3570k @ 3.4GHz
8GB Ram, 1600mhz
Radeon HD 6850 GPU

I would drop the steelviking mod, or at least delete the large hungery .dds files from it

Let's see if this works, I haven't tried it myself before so I can't guarantee anything :hmm2:


1) Copy the folder; 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5' and save it, e.g. on your desktop, in this folder you find, among other ones, the following folders;
1b) 'SH5\data\Users\Your current captain's name\Campaign' (that contains two files > 'CampaignProgress' and 'Campaign')
1c) 'SH5\data\cfg'

2) Delete the folder; 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5'

3) Start SH5 (now a new 'C:\User\Documents\SH5' folder will be created)

4) Create a new profile

5) Start a new campaign save it and exit SH5

6) Copy the two files mentioned above in point 1b

7) Paste them into the new 'C:\User\Documents\SH5\data\Users\Your new captain's name\Campaign

8) Go to your folder copy on the desktop and find the folder 'SH5\data\cfg' (mentioned in point 1c above) - copy the whole folder

9) Paste it into the new 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5\data' folder (that was created in point 3 above) and let overwrite

If this shouldn't work you can just copy the folder you saved on your desktop in point 1 above and paste it into; C:\Users\Documents and let overwrite

Even if I haven't tried this myself I think this should work

Hello everyone, i am very new to SUBSIM (today) and i have just encountered a problem. I was Silent Hunter 5, the campaign and advanced into a new sub. After some looking around i found some merchants and went into periscope depth, and to my surprise the periscope would max its length up about 1-2 meters below the surface. I have looked around as to what the problem may be but i'm just not sure. I just added...

I have a MAC and I can run SH5 on Parallels Desktop using Windows XP but it doesn't run well. I started using Bootcamp and put in Windows 7. When I installed SH5 it told me I have no memory (I have 24 Gigs) and the worst part is that I have no direction control down on the lower left corner. I have tried re-enstalling it and always get the same thing. Any ideas. . .anybody???

I have completed the SH5 training mission and have just put to sea on my 1st patrol.
I order Periscope depth, stop all engines and trot off to the Hydrophone room to find the crew operating the thing, however! I cant hear anything.
I sit myself in front oh the hydrophone controls only to find that I cannot move the listening direction and cant hear a darn thing. :timeout:

I surface the boat and move to the radio room only to find the same thing! The Radio is not working.:wah:


Last but not least! LAG. I am on 40MG broadband (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2074847&posted=1#) and have never ever had such bad lag in any game! Could it be UPLAY? And what can be done about it??? :nope:

...I cannot move the listening direction and cant hear a darn thing.
I surface the boat and move to the radio room only to find the same thing! The Radio is not working.

Last but not least! LAG. I am on 40MG broadband (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2074847&posted=1#) and have never ever had such bad lag in any game! Could it be UPLAY?

This sounds like you're running out of memory. You should have at least 4 GB

But - just to try you could increase your virtual memory from the current 2 Gb (= 2 x 1024 MB) to;
((2x1024 MB) x 1.5) = 3072 MB

As for the lag - are you playing online?
Anyway, I don't think this is because of UPlay

It can make your gameplay smoother, keeps the FPS under a given level and you avoid jumping FPS up and down.
This is not an ordinary mod that you activate with JSGME! Make sure you read the 'readme.txt' file.
The d3d Antilag comes with just two files (antilag.cfg & d3d9.dll)
You put them in the 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5' folder. That's all

To start with I recommend you try these values in the 'antilag.cfg' file (open with e.g. note pad);

RenderAheadLimit=1
FPSlimit=34

When you're done make sure you save it in the same format (.cfg)

If you still get lag >
RenderAheadLimit=0
FPSlimit=33

Try other settings of your choice.
The RenderAheadLimit heavy on your RAM and CPU
The FPSlimit determines the maximum FPS and you should keep it >33<40 to get SH5 smoother

Still - to avoid lag and to get most out of SH5 I'm sure you really should get yourself more RAM. I recommend at least 8 GB.Memory is quite cheap these days. :up:

But in part three the Blockaged of Germany. Everytime I try to continue, or load in a save Miision, I am sent back to the Uplay lobby with the Thank you for playing screen.

The only way to load back in is by loading in the begginning of the Third mission, Losing any progress that I have made.

You say you have problems loading a saved game. Sounds very much like what I and Scümbagfuhrer discussed above (please see posts # 1607 - 1610)
I haven't heard anything from him on if he tried this solution but as he's quiet I hope it all worked well.

You could try what I wrote in post # 1610. This way you should keep your progress.
But - remember to keep a backup of the files in the instruction that you save on your desktop.

I took your advice and started to do what u suggested
And in the process I may have found another bug, But it seems to be working in my favor.

See if this makes sense to y, got me stumped.

I moved my /Document/SH5 folder to my desk top,
Started my game, started a new campaine when I went to save it, low and behold there were all my saved games ,?????, so I tied to load one and no problem, Now remember I did not recopy any thing back to the new SH5 folder.
When I exit the game same thing again, I cant reload any of the Part 3 mission, it sends me back to the Uplay lobby.

But if I repeat the process above. I can continue where I left off.
Each time deleting , or moving :) the doc/sh5 folder to my desk top
start a new campain. then exit and load in the last mission.

Funny how my saved missions are there even though I havent copyed any files back??????
Im not sure why this is working,,But so far so good

In the stock game, it worked fine.

Fellow Kaleuns may benefit from my recent lag troubleshooting.

I have a fairly powerful rig (i7-2600@ 3.7GHz, 8GB RAM, SSD, AMD HD 6870 GPU overclocked by about 10%, 1920x1080 LCD, Win 7 64 bit).

I use Sober's modlist, TDW's patches, speech control, Open Horizons, and a few others, all of which have been stable enough to get me to the Mediterranean campaign without cheating or too much frustration.

Realism, Sounds, and Graphics are all cranked pretty high.

After a few months not playing, I fired up SH5 the other day and Uplay insisted on upgrading. After eventually getting that to work (finding passwords etc), I continued my campaign only to find the lag so bad I couldn't play. Characters moved in slow jerks, sounds played on noticeably repetitive loops, and any mouse movement took forever. In short, it was horrible.

I loaded a savegame in the bunker, which was OK, but as soon as I boarded the sub, the problem was so extreme I couldn't play.

Resource Monitor showed all 4 CPUs running well below 50% utilisation, disk and network activity were negligible, and memory was less than 70% utilised.

I installed the Kegety's anti-lag mod, which helped a little, but nowhere near enough to be playable.

To troubleshoot, I turned all graphics settings to low and restarted. Smooth as butter, but not quite the eye candy I'm used to, so I cranked up all the graphics options I could, one by one, without forcing a restart. Everything was fine until I took "shadows" above the middle of the slider.

Leaving shadows at mid-setting, I then cranked up the other settings like texture and anti-aliasing to the max, restarted, and it all looks great.

Conclusion:
High Shadow Setting causes lag on my rig. This is either a new phenomenon due to a change I've made to my system, or the recent UPlay update changed my SH5 graphics options somehow.

The following changes have taken place since I last played and had no issues:

Various windows Updates
Installed IL-2 Cliffs of Dover, DCS World, DCS A-10, ARMA3 Alpha and Beta
Uplay update



Bottom Line - TL/DR:
If you suddenly experience lag or performance issues with SH5, disable shadows and see if that fixes it. You can gradually turn them up later to find the optimum setting.

If you have always had lag or performance issues, set your graphics options to "Low" and restart. Then gradually increase the options one by one to see where the performance issue creeps in. Most can be adjusted without restarting, so do those first. If you change something and it wants you to restart, just undo your change (hit back if you can't remember exactly what you changed) and try something else. Once you get it humming with those changes, continue with the settings that require a restart, but do it one by one again to find what breaks performance.

Hello,

I am new to the boards and I am looking for some help! I recently got the urge to pick up SH5 and play again. After some updating and such the game will not launch. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled and every time I try to launch the game the little box pops up and goes away .....then nothing. I am sure this has been addressed before if some one could please point me in the right direction on how to fix the issue I would be grateful.

After sink the ships i cant record the game because when i load the game does not work...(black screen).

Restore your Uplay connection. Had same problem a month ago and, lacking skills on computer, finally called uplay support directly at 919-460-9778 and talked to a real live (not outsourced) funkermann, JP, who restored my problem live on line, which arose from a incomplete update from their end. This is for when you're desperate and your consummate computer skills avail you nought...:arrgh!:

I did better with the phone number after their patch failed also. I too had shut down my computer and not patrolled for a week when this misery occurred. I noted that Uplay Romania had become Uplay Sweden-maybe Vender knows (Sweden?) or Adm. FiFI. good luck.:arrgh!:

I just downloaded Sobers Mega Mod and I noticed that my ruler mark is offset? in other words when I try to make a mark using the ruler tool the mark does not line up with the ruler cross hairs. But what is strange is that the compass works fine?

Has any one experienced this issue lately?

Other than that the mods are awesome!!!

Hopefully someone has an idea what could be wrong, so here comes my problem :wah:.

i wanted to give SH5 another try, so i put up a new modlist.
First i patched the .exe with TDW patcher. Then i used JSGME to enable some mods from sobers mod list (correct order).
At this stage i wanted to test if anythings going well....
For testing i started (as always) the single mission in Narvik where ur about to sink the "warspite" (i dont know the english name of this mission).
Everything looked good but then i made the mistake? to use TC 4x and got a CTD. On another test i got a CTD after firing a torpedo.

When i disable all mods (only running patched exe) everythings ok. But with a few mods enabled there are random CTDs....

My rig: i73930K, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX570, 256GB SSD (SH5 installed there)

This happened to me also. In the last OH2 update, the CTD when sinking Polish ships was fixed. Unfortunately the Expanded Navies mod seems to undo the fixed files, so I removed it and it has been fine ever since.

To make testing of new load orders more convenient there is an easy way to edit your mod list - just;

1. Open your current mod list up in e.g. Note Pad and do whatever changes you want.
Move them around, replace them with new ones. Whatever.

2. Save this edited file in a new name in the same folder where you keep your .mep (JSGME profiles) files.

Just make sure you save it in .mep format.
In Note Pad that is, when you save it do it by 'Save as' and then in Note Pad choose 'All files' format. Not the default .txt format.
Yor new .mep file should look like this; 'your chosen file name'.mep'

Right?

Then you can load it the normal way in JSGME.

If you add some mods to your list this way > make sure those new mods are present in JSGME, i.e. in your C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder
If they're not, JSGME won't find any possibly newly added mods and the list won't load properly.

Hi everyone! It's one of my first posts so I'm sorry if this is not the correct thread. I have a problem running SH5. It just worked until last night. This afternoon I clicked on the usual game's logo and the usual "downloading upgrades" appeared. Then nothing, instead of the uplay page with the "play" button to click. What is going on? I also tried to activate the game to make it run on Steam but it says that the code is unvalid. I unistalled and installed the game but the result is the same. Thanks for reading. Waiting for suggestions.

To me it sounds like you're starting your SH5 by clicking either;

- the sh5.exe file (C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5) or
- the shortcut on your desktop

If this is correct you should download the UPlay Launcher, here; http://uplay.ubi.com/

Try this and get back if this wouldn't help

No, if I hit the desktop icon or the app in the Ubisoft folder nothing happens. Just for a few seconds I see the mouse cursor with the blue circle like it was launching the program but nothing appears on screen.

Met a small passenger ship at 345° at british coastal waters. Benno was spotting it - but i had nothing in the hydrophone. No sound and no entry in the notepad...?!? But Benno followed the ship as usual. This happend once before with the same type of ship...
Does anyone know, why ship's propellers are sometimes audible in hydrophone and sometimes not...? Even when they should be heard (close enough, right angle). Is it a matter of speed? :hmmm:
Apart from that, game is running smooth.

So I just decided to buy the $10 steam gold edition, decided how bad could it be for that. Well....
steam/uplay I would assume patches SH5 to the newest version...

but I seem to be experiencing many of the bugs that are supposed to have been fixed, such as CO2 not going away when surfacing (by the way what level is the level that you are suppose to surface at? Anything over 10% seems to happen way too fast?)

Also stuff like TC not turning off (and i was only in 128x) leading me to crash straight into destroyers. Crew not detecting ships that are clearly visible... ships that I detected I am not able to lock onto and use the stadimeter on until I am way too close for stealth, and the stadimeter seems really inconsistent/inaccurate.

I also one time stopped TC and went to scope depth first to check the horizon, and a cargo ship was about 500meters away with no sonar detection. I started to engage and just as I was about to fire the SHIP VANISHED!?! Seriously... it just disappeared. Right there... then poof gone no more ship.

WTF is going on?

I know its only been a few hours since my previous post, but has anyone else been getting the CO2 level not lowering after surfacing bug still happening with 1.2? Also I can't find any reference on what level of CO2 is dangerous other than the "over 10%" flag which seems to come up after I've only been submerged for a few hours. Letting it climb to 35% didn't seem to cause any complaints. Is that normal? I just noticed that my version is indeed 1.2 so I am wondering how I am still getting that bug. Also the stadimeter doesn't seem to work right either, per pre patch reports. Going to try some more but before it seemed to be giving me ranges that were way farther out than actual as observed on the map with ruler.

But: there are also great modders in this community and they made some must-have-mods, which turned this buggy, incomplete game into a thrilling sim...! It took me more than 6 months making this game playable&cool and i had to read endless threads/posts in this forum. Read the threads of The Dark Wraith (TDW), Trevally, Sober, Sjizzle, TheBeast, Stoiamn, etc. in the SH5 Mods Workshop. Check modlists carefully and you will see what they are making out of the buggy stock game! The mod list in my post above contains some of the must-have-mods.
p.s. Looks like you have the steam version? Then, modding will be hard...:dead:

Ok, Im confident now that something is wrong with my game. Its 19 October 1939, I fired about 20 torpedoes so far and only one exploded, the rest is dud. I shoot them at perfect angle, from perfect distance. Every torpedo makes it to the target but bounces. I know there were problems with torpedoes in WWII but its just too much. Heres some screenshots from one attack:

As you can see, angle is around 95 degrees and range 1300 meters (other attacks varied from 900m to 3000m) so its a perfect position yet all torpedoes are dud. Heres my modlist:

Thanks for the reply. Wow, SH5 is a turd. I didn't think I'd have to do this much work to get it playable after it being out for 3-4 years. Might be easier/more fun to get SH3 working and modded on Win8.

Try this mod FX Update 0_0_22 by TheDarkWraith apart from the base mod it also has torpedo patches. Only select the 1.
After the first folder there is a folder called Mods. When you open this folder you will find the base folder 1 and the torpedo patch folder 3 that you need.
Before you enable it in JSGME right click and go to explore and you should see the Data folder if so, enable, if not then the Mod is still inside another folder.
Enable before OHII.

TDW's Generic Patchers has 7 patch files 3 of which contain torpedo patches that all need to be enabled.
Don't forget you need that mod patch for IRAI.
Hope this helps as I can see no other reason why you are having problems..

I considered installing this mod before but Im afraid it will slow down my game even further, Im already running at 20fps and more FX would probably kill it :( But after installing these additional fixes from Generic Patcher torpedoes started to explode so I think its fixed now.

Maybe the 'D3D antilag v1.01' could get your fps up a bit.

Make sure you read the readme.txt file carefully!
This is NOT an ordinary mod that you enable with JSGME. It consists of 2 files - antilag.cfg and d3d9.dll

Both of these have to be put into your; C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 folder!

You make your settings in the antilag.cfg file, it's quite simple.

To start with I suggest you try these settings;

RenderAheadLimit=2
FPSlimit=36

Then you can experiment with the figures until you hopefully find a good mix.

Sometimes crew voices don't load and when it happens some of the messages they say don't appear in this small message box on the right side of screen too. Most of the time loading save again works but last time I had to restart whole game because I reloaded save 10 times and still there weren't any voices. Is there a fix for this?

Go to the SH5 Mods workshop. Search for speech fixes and additions, More crew commands by dialog, Even more crew commands by dialog mods.

before i ask my question, i would like to say sorry if my language/writing is incorrect.
i installed the Open Horizons II & Equipment/Upgrades by TheBeast mod.
in the first mission, Coastal Waters we should patrol and then we must sink one ship (merchant/warship)
after that, we must go to kiel to acquire new objectives. But, i clicked "end patrol" and nothing happen. I'm still on the submarine's conning tower.
I clicked the "refit" button and it says "Refit Completed" as it should.
but when i clicked the "End Patrol" button, nothing happen.
any solves? thanks before. :subsim::salute:

Greeting fellow sailors,

I've recently rediscovered SH5 and at the same time discovered why I quit playing soon after I originally purchased it. Very few of the controls work. I've read that when it was released that it had a number of issues effecting game play. These however I have also read have been addressed with the various patches developed. My problem is I can't install any of these fixes. I get an error message saying something to the effect that it is not compatible with current installed game. What pray tell am I doing wrong? Any insights into this would be appreciated.

Why did you leave out the details of various patches? How are we supposed to know what you are talking about if you do not describe various patches in detail?

Ubisoft game patched now to 1.2.
Go to: Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater. launch gu.exe

Uplay at version 4.1++ go to ubisoft.com and search for uplay to get the latest download. Quicker than going through old uplay launcher.

sh5.exe patcher - What documentation did you read at the bottom of post #1? Sjizzle's how to use patcher thread has the most current information.

I'm not sure if I get you right. When you say 'patches' and 'fixes' - do you mean MODS?
Or just one of them :hmm2:

What MikeMike47 says about patching the game is correct. Go to: Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdate\gu.exe and start it
This should patch SH5 to v1.2
After patching you should see the version number (1.2.0) in the upper right corner of the main menu in the game.

Without this patch most MODS won't run properly.

MikeMike47 mentioned the 'sh5.exe patcher' which is a very useful tool

hello.

my problem is that i dont' undestand how snorkel can be raised. it dont rise automatically when i go to periscope quote, there is a specific command?
i see that it dont rise becose of: i don't see it by periscope; the speed submerged is the same that without snorkel; the propulsion pass to electric.

suggest viagra is funny, but it dont work :)

TDW's "Option file Editor Viewer" is in the NEWUI base mods "7 _4_2 and 7_5_0"

How I Installed TDW’s Option File Editor Viewer

This is how I installed it with the mod “Enabled”

TDW’s File Option Editor is inside your 7_4_2 base mod.

Right click the mouse on 7_4_2 and “Open”

Open “Data”

Open “Application”

Open “OptionFileEditorViewer”

Open the “Application” “OptionsFileEditorViewer”

Open “File”

Click on “Set path to menu.txt”

Click on “menu” (This should be the last file)

Open “File”

Click on “Set SH5 install path”

Find your main “Silent Hunter 5” Folder and save it here.

Enter “Ok”

Go to “File”

Select the first “Open”

This will show the .py “TheDarkWraithUserOptions”

Double click on it and this will open up the “Editor”

You should now see a row of “Option Tabs”

Make your changes. (These changes should made in the bunker)

To “Save” your changes.

Go to “File”

Select “Save”

“Ok”

Except all prompts.

The first time you “Save” You may be taken to the “Menu” py files. If this is the case you select the last py file “TheDarkWraithUserOptions”. Click on it and select “Save”. You will get a “Save” confirmation.

The recommended way to do it is with the mod disabled.

It is recommended that this is done in “JSGME” with the mod disabled.

You right click and “Explore”

This takes you directly to the “Application” “OptionsFileEditorViewer”

Then follow the above instructions.

If I make changes when the mod is “Enabled” I always reset “Set path to menu.txt”

Snorkel is not a mod.

The first "Tab" in TDW's "Option File Editor Viewer" is "Submarine" Select the submarine/s and change "False to "True"

Old question I never figured out.Can I somewhere alter at what depth the sub determines it s submerged? I m so tired of aa crew/deckgun crew runs away cause the boat is dipping a bit. messing with batterycharge as well AND not the least ability to use uzo or binoculars when running decks awash.:hmmm:

These were disabled with the decks awash patch if you are in fact running decks awash. If I didn't disable them then you'd always use decks awash which would be a cheat.

I barge on with my hydroproblem. Some slowgoing ships I never hear. I hear them when they speed up.
The type in hydros box I only see when pointed excactly on target (+-0.5 degrees?).Result is I just see small flash while needle passes that point.
I use a list similar to Sober but removed RSD and REM no hyd on surface. Before that I could not hear anything beneath 30 m
Anyone know wich files are involved?

ANyway No I mean the one from RSD."R.S.D. & R.E.M. - GHG Hydrophone add-on (normal)". The thing is I got impatient and started to change more than one thing at the time. I also changed to newest patcher.

Thes mods have gone in and out during my search for problemsource;

The only thing that always have been the same is that I sometimes don t hear slow ships. For sure never the small Rongel and Ukuel. Otherwise I don t find consistancy.

The thing that I could not hear anything (fast or slow) beneath 30 m changed to the shiptype (if hearable)only being announced in hydbox excactly on target happened after I stopped using hydsurface mods from RSD , but I did change to newest patcher as well so I can t be sure what made the change.

I have to stop playing and go to work sometimes too sigh. I ll try put original exe and patch it up and I ll try add one of the RSD surface pacthes again and see what happens.(I ll try that first). I m so tired of my crazy hyd.

Was just curious if anyone had a clue whats going on. I can try narrow down by using only new ui s etc and add related mods, but I m so tired of testing after all my CTD hunts.:wah:

I removed environmental from the patcher and hope it helpes. Been to sea for hours and downed two ships..no CTD. maybe it s connected with my hyd problem..no idea.:hmmm:. I ve always had problems like this I just accepted it and reloaded after CTD.
YUP I m in SH5 heaven like I have been since I installed the game first time haha

Thes mods have gone in and out during my search for problemsource;
R.S.D. & R.E.M. - GHG Hydrophone add-on (no hyd on surface) ,
R.E.M. - hydrophone mute for player fix (TDW compatible) and (-> what does it fix? can t find documentation..)

It makes hydrophone contacts audible at any depth below sensor's minimum depth.

Enable the standard version on top of R.E.M if New UI's/IRAI are not used, otherwise enable the TDW compatible after R.E.M and TDW mods.

R.E.M. hydrophone depth ranges/detection distances are not affected by this fix, i.e. Xrundel/TheBeast's settings are unchanged.


The only thing that always have been the same is that I sometimes don t hear slow ships. The thing that I could not hear anything (fast or slow) beneath 30 m changed to the shiptype (if hearable) only being announced in hydbox excactly on target happened after I stopped using hydsurface mods from RSD, but I did change to newest patcher as well so I can t be sure what made the change.

Its back again:D(hydbox showing type only at +-0,5 degree)
didn t even go out to main menu.

I t s descent ctdwise thouh. like one out of ten times I get ctd after a ship is sunk when I enter hydstation. reload and no prob. Much better than those ctd s wich I guess was campaignrelated and you just had to reload a million times hoping to get back to base. Somethings weird thats for sure.

Hi Huskubsky! Have the same probs with Hydrophone - many contacts in visible Range without any audio beneath 30 meters and engine stop. Hydrophone is amainfeature of this game- so how do you fix this? I'm using The Wolfes of Steel 1.01 . Thanks for respond - in English please.

The following are my questions about the 'Wolves of Steel' mod in general. Not questions to you Ironcold but maybe VDR1981 could answer them.

Don't the following two mods lead to an unnecessary conflict?

No Sonar Ping & Auto Ship Recog. - for TDW NewUIs 7_4_2 - Why is this one included? Doesn't this one make the sonar quiet and that you get no hit in the Ship Recognition Book?


And what about this?
According to the Beast himself the following ones should be enabled last, shouldn't they?
This would mean they are enabled way too early in the 'Wolves of Steel mod'

When starting East Coast patrol. There is a convoy of four ships. Two
Merchant and two landing craft. Using one torpedo and fx update mods.
I hit the merchant and it is burning. Hit one landing craft and it is burning.
Then I hit the other landing craft. The merchant sinks. The first landing craft is burning. When I hit the second landing craft. I am kicked out of the game.

Tried twice online. Tried once offline. Still the same problem.

Could use a little help. Should I use Jsgme and take out the mods?
As this is the first time I ever saw landing craft ships.

Hi, when I submerge my submarine also stops moving...I click on 1 2 3 4 5 nothing happens.. forward and backwards but I do see a white light thing going to that place but the red arrow not
I have this bug since I use TDW patcher and I thought maybe this bug is known already and I accidently clicked maybe something wrong in that patcher?

Pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 should give you the foreward speed selected. And clicking on one with your mouse should also engage that speed requested.

Sounds like something is corrupted, either a mod or your mouse and/or keyboard.

If you are using a modified set of command keys, then forget the above. ;)

Anyway.. I have a new bug :yep: My torpedoes are going in circles when I fire them. I only saw 1 going towards the target. I alse use TDW patcher btw

I've added also this one now "Stock torpedoes (modified for torpedoes failure patches)" in JGSME
The last game I played they were going straight again.. but now they passing by the ships so I had to set them to 1 meter instead of 3(standard)
I hit 1 polish destroyer but the merchant ships in Danzig the torpedo dont explode on it but just hits and then turns a bit. Not sure if too close or bug.. well anyway, I went surface to try it with the deck gun but the door never opened so I couldnt stand in the tower .. sigh..

I think I should recheck TDW patcher right now I have the same things as the example screenshot of this topic http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=205620

I will figure this out tommorow lol... there will be a day I can play this game without bugs and with nice mods :)

I see you don t have the Torpedoes modified for TDW patches installed. They come with the patcher.
As for the speed I experienced similar when playing around with port/starboard shafts. I just stopped doing it.

Anyone (from Sweden especially) knows if that SH5 validator from TDW is supposed to be error free? I was a happy humanbeing until I tried it.:o

Good to hear..:) .. Next thing is I encountered a convoy and for fun went head on to see when they spotted me. (first try with moon light mod v3). Guess what they never saw me..I took a spot in the convoy amongst some 3 dd s and a queen elisabeth battleship and cruised along with them..Aftrer 10 mins I fired my deckgun and they blew me out of the seas. It was clear night and I was between the convoy and the moon going flank speed..well that before I joined the convoy for 10 mins..This reminds me of the migs in falcon 4.0 sigh.:huh:.
When I played around a year ago the problem was the oposite cause I was spotted alwaysno matter how careful I was.. that wa s the time of..early sobers fog, no moon light mod, I think IRAI0037 , FXU 0019 and OH 1.8.

I'm having the exact same problem with my 760... adjusting resolution and graphic settings in-game does nothing, playing around with nvidia control panel settings does nothing, and removing my mods (sober's list) does nothing :hmmm:

Been playing around a lot with mods since your last install of SH5?

To me this sounds like a classic, i.e. what our mate Webster calls a Mod Soup Issue.

Over time when we enable and disable mods with JSGME things can get completely fu**ed up.

The first I'd try to do is to check if a run with the CCleaner (https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) could help.
For sure it will find lots and lots of old leftovers, maybe the files causing this issue as well.
Just remember! When/if you're running the Registry cleaning option > make a backup!!! The CCleaner will prompt you before deleting anything. If something unexpected would happen you can just go to your backup file and double click it and everything is back to where you started from.

Then -
if this wouldn't help try re-installing the JSGME. Follow Webster's instructions.

Oh, the control panel is part of the drivers and cannot be removed or disabled. I did remove the profile for sh5.exe and set everything back to default though, made no difference.

In the nVidia Control Panel 3D settings:

1. Do you have a specific profile in the nVidia Control Panel for just for SH5?

2. Try to set the Control Panel so as many options as possible are controlled 'by the program' or 'global'

Sorry for nagging, but anyone have a view on the co2 percent? It takes like 6 hours for me to reach 10 percent wich is deadly. The crew dies at 100 percent in the game. The boats were supposed to be able to stay submerged 18 to 24 hours, and 24 hours gives me like 40 percent. Around 4 to 5 percent seem a critical value medicaly, so it seem sensible to divide the percentagevalue given in the game by 10. I couldn t be able to do scapa my way if I had to breathe the boat before 6 hours..:hmmm:

I apologize if this has been covered before, but it's 2am and I don't feel up to reading 116 pages of thread...

My saves have all suddenly stopped working. I can start the game fine, I can choose a manual or auto save to load, the game loads it, but as soon as I'm dropped into the game, it locks up and requires a force quit. If I'm very lucky, my sub will load and I'll get control of my captain for half a second before it locks up.

I'm only using a single mod: Open Horizons 2 v2.5.

I had a rather successful patrol where I sank a King George V-class battleship north of Ireland, then seriously roughed up a convoy south of Ireland. On my way home (via the Northern Atlantic and the North Sea around Scotland) I ran aground during 4000x time compression, destroying my sub.

After this mistake I tried to reload a save I made shortly after leaving the convoy a mess and discovered that all of my 2-dozen odd saves now crashed upon completion of loading.

What can I do to fix this?

Ps. Almost exactly four years to the day since my last post on this forum. Only out by three days. Wow.

If it helps, I managed to load a corrupt save and get back to base, working entirely from map view, so my sub didn't have to load.

This is what has happened to my sub:

This is a new career, however, so it wasn't a fluke last time.

It appears to have become an issue after some level of tonnage sunk (around 400,000 to 600,000), which I've heard whispers about before...

Go to your ‘Main’ ‘Silent Hunter 5 Folder.’ (After the Ubisoft Folder)

Go to the ‘Support Folder.’

Go to the ‘GameUpdater Folder’

Double click to run the ‘Gu’ ‘Application.’

This will update your installation to the current v1.2

This will show in the top right corner of your screen when you load the game.

Hi
Often I have a little flickering in Center of View. Find no reason, why.
Here my specs:
Win 8.1
Intel Core i5 4570
8 gb
NVidia GTX 760 Driver version 9.18.13.2049

Newer driver´s will cause problems.
Does anybody knows what is the best driver for this videocard that will work
with SH 5 ?
Have the Sobermodlist and TDW´s newest exe patch - all works fine so
this is not the reason.

Hi everyone! I just finished getting all my mods working when i noticed something. Neither my depth gauge, speed gauge or my times compression will change values, being stuck at 00, and the times compression not even showing a number. I also cannot use any dive buttons besides depth under keel, and my patch to add in decks awash has not shown up, because of the frozen layout I would assume. Here is a picture along with my mod list, thank you in advance!

I think your problem is a mod issue?

You need to remove the odd ball mods to test the situation.

OH II v2.5 there have been so many changes taken place since v2.2

Mods that were possibly compatible before no longer are.

Already included in OH II

Cause of ctd’s with OHII and 7-4-2

SH5 External Cargo 1.0

Problems reported using this mod
