CCC? Are you referring to Catalyst Control Center? That's AMD/ATI. I just stated I have an NVIDIA card. :)

Was thinking about nHancer. If so - disable and check.

If it's still not running properly try updating your driver.

Shouldn't this work try an older driver. I've had problems like this when I had an nVidia GPU and seen that sometimes older drivers work better with certain softwares.

Make sure you uninstall the driver completely.
To make sure everything really is deleted from your HD you could try to uninstall with CCleaner (http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/).
After uninstalling all nVidia entries let CCleaner scan for leftovers.
Then install the new driver.

I do not have nHancer so that cannot be the issue. Since I have the latest release driver, my only option is to roll back the drivers. Quite frankly, that is simply too much trouble just for screenshot options. Likewise, since I am seeing it with SH4, which I have had over a year, I doubt that rolling back the driver will be of much help.

Hello

Everytime I try to start a mission, it loads and then crashes without any error message.

I'm running it on:
Win 7 64
HD5830
4Gb ram
The only thing I applied is the 4gb switch, no mods yet.

I already tried reinstalling the visual c++ and updating my GPU drivers (went from 11.12 to the 12.1 preview)

So if anyone can help me get SH5 working, I'll be grateful.

If not run this one;

C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe

This should get you updated to v1.2.0

Hi again Masta,

First - check your settings in the Main Menu Options. All of them.
Try to turn down your graphics as well as sound settings.
Exit SH5 and start it up again.
Does it run correctly now?
If not your problems could be caused by a corrupt/bad install.

You could try to uninstall SH5 and re-install

1 Make a backup of the; C:\Users\Documents\SH5\data\cfg folder. Save it on your HD.
2 Delete the; C:\Users\Documents\SH5 folder. A new one will be created when you install again
3 Uninstall SH5
I can recommend you uninstall using the CCleaner
After uninstalling with CCleaner you can let it do a scan for possibly remaining files. You can download CCleaner here; http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/
IF CCleaner finds remaining SH5 files - delete them
4 Reboot
5 Re-install SH5
6 Make a copy of your saved backup of the 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5\data\cfg folder' and paste it into; the 'C:\Users\Documents\SH5\data folder
7 Reboot your PC
8 Launch SH5

Does it run now? :hmmm:

Apparently my windows thoughht it would funny to stop working so I had to make a fresh installation and now my SH5 works.
Must've been some software problem.

I ran out of torpedoes while on my first patrol, so I went to Heligoland to load up on fuel and ammo before heading back out, and saved after refitting. I loaded the save up today, and as soon as it loads, my crew starts screaming like we're under attack and I hear sounds that sound like we're being hit by something, but there's nothing there. Upon checking my subsystems, I see that my hull integrity is down to 98% for no reason, and there's some minor damage to some systems. Most confusing.

EDIT: Also, pressing escape to get out of the navigation screen and go back to the bridge causes a CTD. Is there any way to play this game in an unbroken way or should I just go back to SH3? I'm getting really tired of all of these ridiculous bugs and errors.

Hi Guy's.

Just got SH 5 tonight and decided to look up some info here:-?

What a shock to see the large number of problem's SH 5 has:-?
It still bug's me why so many Sims are put onto the market before the bugs are ironed out:damn:

I'm a keen Simmer since 86 & I must point out that there where less problem's in the early years than now..Take Red October for instance I run it on a Atari 120 & never had a problem:yeah:

Now every flight Sim, or Sailing, Sub Sim's come with the added gift of Bug's:damn:

A fair amount of code is 'setup' for Windows and DirectX or OpenGL...back then you didn't have Windows to contend with, it was DOS. With DOS you didn't have to swap processor time with other apps or window's services, etc. Things were much simpler and much easier to exploit also back in the good ole days :yep:

I have a new bug to report. I have noticed that over patrols, the cooldown is getting longer and longer for my skills. During a patrol with low morale I can understand, but it makes no sense for it to carry over to a fresh patrol. What do I need to do to clear this bug and reset the cooldowns to the appropriate level.

As much as I spam the Cook's abilities, I would hardly notice. :D How does this affect the obnoxious cooldown times. My cook's cooldown time for his skill at level 3 is 1 day 6 hours and keeps growing. I though the higher skill level was supposed to drop the cooldown to 4 hours.

I have learned from the UBI forums that this problem is caused by the game trying to run at 59Hz instead of 60Hz. However, all of my NVIDIA settings are at 60 Hz and since SH4 and SH5 have this same problem, the problem is in the SH configurations. Where would I go in the files to force 60Hz?

I started digging through all of the stored data and found no problems in the core files. When I opened my ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc file in my save folder, I found all of the crazy cooldown timers.

I think I have solved the mystery of the distorted screenshots. All of my resolution settings are at 60Hz, so that was not the problem. I noticed that the settings for 1366x768 resolution do not come up as aspect ratio 16:9 like it is supposed to. It is set at a wonky 683:384 aspect ratio. I set the game to the other resolutions and the screenshots come out fine.


How do I force 1366x768 16:9 resolution and ratio?


EDIT: I no longer need help with this issue. Xfire allows me to circumvent the resolution problem in both SH4 and SH5 with no problems. I just have to run Xfire in the background from now on.

I've done some searching on here and have noticed issues with visual C++ version and net framework. I never had 4.0 and am using the versions that are on the SH5 disc.

I'm running xp sp3, shows 3.25gb of ram, a Geforce 9800gt video card, 5000+ dual core

If anyone can help me out or has any suggestions id be appreciative :cool:

To patch the game run this program;

C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe

It should patch your game. :up:

EDIT: Still no go

It crashes to desktop as the game loads up.

Shows the loading screen.. winds up for about 30 seconds, then "click" sound and back to the desktop :(

Hi again,

Please tell;

- What mods you are running (if any).
In case you've activated any mods with JSGME > disable them and launch SH5 again to check if it opens up properly.
If you get to the Main Menu > what number do you see in the upper right corner?
If you see 1.2.0 it means you're patched properly.

- Have you done any settings at all during install?

- After installing the 'JSGME' you should run it once. This should let the JSGME create a folder named 'MODS' in the 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\' folder? After this you can paste your copies of mods into that 'MODS' folder.

- If you do a search for 'Ubisoft Game Launcher' on your main drive do you fiind the folder; 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher' containing 'UbisoftGameLauncher.exe'?;

This is weird.
I really can't tell for sure why this happens.

Might be a corrupt install.

If you decide to do a reinstall > PM me so I can give some hopefully useful advice.

When I click on the button requesting depth under keel, there is neither a verbal response nor a response in the chat window. I'm currently using the game's own depth/speed/heading setup. I have only 3 activated MODS currently: one ship one torpedo V1.00; enhanced ship recon manual V2; and IO_Strategic Map_4_2_for_stock. These were activated using JSGME program. No conflict was indicated prior to installing these thru JSGME. Specs for my system are: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2; AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor 2.20GHz; RAM 3.00GB; 64-bit system; Motherboard -> ASUS NVIDIA 6159 SENForce 430; graphics card -> GEForce GTX560 with 2GB GDDR5 memory. Ubisoft's hardware detection tool indicatedl my hardware meets all game's requirements. Any helpful advice is appreciated. :)

Hey guys,

I'm new to the community but a long time fan of this game. I'm not sure if I'm posting this properly so bear with me.

The issue i'm having is with SH5. I'm currently completing the Total Germany campaign and just finished my second patrol. I completed the mission (sinking 50k tonnes) and was heading back to port to end it. When I click on the anchor, i'm only able to choose 'refit' and 'postpone'. The 'end patrol' option is there but I'm unable to click on it.

Is this a known issue regarding this or am I not supposed to end my patrol yet? The message I get after completing the mission say to either patrol a new area or return to base.

Any answers on this?

I had the same problem. I changed my mods around, and it seemed to go away, I noticed my depth reports were absent form saved games as opposed to new campaigns. I moved my mods about and the problem seemed to go away (disabled deleted reloaded the ones I kept) I was careful to use the import feature on the generic mod gizmo as opposed to cut and paste Of course I don't know what I'm doing, It may come back I don't know, but shortly after I lost all audio as my defaults are being reset and the originals "lost" I have to reload my audio devices and drivers eveytime i log on. Ah Silent hunter....what this all has to do with submarines I have yet to discover.

When I click on the button requesting depth under keel, there is neither a verbal response nor a response in the chat window. I'm currently using the game's own depth/speed/heading setup. I have only 3 activated MODS currently: one ship one torpedo V1.00; enhanced ship recon manual V2; and IO_Strategic Map_4_2_for_stock. These were activated using JSGME program. No conflict was indicated prior to installing these thru JSGME. Specs for my system are: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2; AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor 2.20GHz; RAM 3.00GB; 64-bit system; Motherboard -> ASUS NVIDIA 6159 SENForce 430; graphics card -> GEForce GTX560 with 2GB GDDR5 memory. Ubisoft's hardware detection tool indicatedl my hardware meets all game's requirements. Any helpful advice is appreciated. :)


I thought I had got rid of it but I haven't I Loose all crew voices on saved games god knows why keep in touch and I will do the same

Is your SH5 patched to version v1.2.0?

If it is you should see this version number in the upper right corner of the Main Menu.

If you don't see that number > run this;
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe
This should get SH5 patched and next time you launch SH5 you should see v1.2.0 in the Main Menu.

Please note - ALL mods you apply with JSGME must have the following structure (here is an example); OPEN HORIZONS II_base v1.6\data
In some mods there can be a 'Documents' or 'Documentation' folder like this; OPEN HORIZONS II_base v1.6\Documents. You can let it stay there as it won't affect the mod.

When downloading mods save them in a folder anywhere you find convenient on your computer.
After this -
1. Make a copy of the mod (make sure you copy just the folder; 'Mod's name'\data'
then
2. Paste this copy into; C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS

If you now open the JSGME you should find the mod in the left column ready to activate.
Don't activate any mods on patrol or during campaign missions. Only before starting the SH5 or even in the bunker.
(Despite this, some mods could run OK but to be sure - just activate before starting the SH5 or in the bunker)

I do the same thing , I think that it looks like that by design , Im not certain but i suspect that underwater fx is the mod responsible .

I have returned and can see from reading your post I have made a few errors right off the top. though I read and installed my firs mods correctly I used the import feature on jsgme, rather than pasting to the mods folder. I am running the correct version, though I have only a vague understanding of structure and go to check now. Can you tell me what the load order has to do with the installation? and again thank you.

I WILL play silent hunter so help me god. I have built this computer just to play this game it took me a year if I have to learn computer programing I will. Concurrent to attempting to prepare the game to be played properly I study Stoinm, fortunately I understand Algebra I merely meed the game to function properly (real nav 100% real and an aggressive ai) in order to apply my firing solutions, and tactics in the most imersive way possible.

Glad my words assisted on the way to get SH5 as fascinating as it really is.

Load order -
Every mod has certain files adjusted by the author/modder to get the wanted features and effect of the mod. Right?
A mod activated after another mod could cause a conflict if they contain one or more file/files with the same name and type.

A - Let's say we activate (in JSGME) 3 different mods. Like this;
1 / 2 / 3
IF the #1 and #2 contains a certain file with the same name this means that the one activated last (the #2 in the list above) will overwrite the one in the #1 (this is called a conflict).
This could cause the #1 not working as intended (loss of some or all features and could even cause CTD).

B - Now let's say we activate them in another order like;
1 / 3 / 2
The #1 and #3 don't conflict but the conflict between #1 and #2 is still there and now we get yet another possible conflict.
The #2 and #3 could contain another file with the same name and type and we get a new conflict.

All this leads to that mods activated last (further down in the list) are more likely to work properly.

When activating mods in JSGME and it finds conflicts you'll see a window stating which files conflict.
Some file types can conflict but still not cause any loss of very important features and thus run almost as intended anyway.

I can't really see why this shouldn't run. Maybe it's a memory problem.

I suggest you try to;

OPEN HORIZONS II_full v1.7=27 << Replace this with OPEN HORIZONS II_base v1.7

Let's see what happens

Im trying to get a stable mod list (sobers) downloaded and installed per your advice still working. Have been blocked from further downloads but am occuping myself by installing what I do have, I'm up to "real navigation" and I have a problem. do the directions for installation mean to copy and replace or copy or merge or just copy the menu text files?

Ok so I have a few issues that cause my game to drop a significant amount of FPS. First off whenever I open the TAI map the game will drop anywhere from 10 to 5 FPS, depending on where I am in the sub. Also, When I am topside my computer has no problem pushing about 30 fps, but when i go into the command room it drops to 10 FPS. I am just wondering if this is a problem with my CPU performance or video card. I find it kind of weird that my performance stays exactly the same on both high quality and low quality textures, where I would think I would gain some frames switching to low quality. Well If anyone can help me get just a few more FPS out of my game, if possible, I would appreciate it.

Crap, I used J zip, is that gonna kill me? it said it was 7 zip compatible! I loaded sobers list sixty mods I did it right except for the compressor It didn't work so I dumped my game for a clean install shall I switch to 7 zip?

Firstly - please tell how you have applied/activaded the d3d Antilag

Secondly - IF you've activated it with JSGME you have to;
1. Deactivate it with JSGME and delete it in your 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS' folder
2. Follow the instructions provided and put the two files (antilag.cfg and antilag.cfg) in your C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter file (where the sh5.exe is).

The antilag.cfg can you tweak to your taste but I'd suggest you at first try this:
RenderAheadLimit=2
FPSlimit=35

Hi again,

If the files' names of a mod are very long you can run into problems when extracting a mod.
The software not necessarily tells you that it can't handle these long names but for sure you'll see it when you activate the mod.

I installed the d3d by dropping the .dll and .cfg files right into the main folder, then opened the .cfg with notepad and set the render ahead to 2 and the FPS limit to 35 at first, but I noticed if I set it higher i gained a few frames. Its just strange that this happens to me. I get a lower FPS being in the middle of the ocean by myself with the TAI open than if i have it closed and am stalking a large convoy with escorts or a carrier group etc. and am wondering if maybe installing a new UI would help?

hi guys .. i need some help any1 has any ideea why my protractor and my compass got bugged? like they don`t start the drawing lie in the center of the tool.. they start somewhere around 130 degree .. tho` my marks and ruller work just fine.. i am using TDW tdc 6.9.0 and EQuaTOOL 01.01 double set large.. and i also edited the colors with the TDW patcher 1.0.21.1 i had the same settings yesterday working AWESOME , i reinstalled to put the german voices and now the tools don`t work fine anymore. thanks

disable the EquaTool mod and see if the problem doesn't go away

same thing , and i also backedup the crack from the updater.. so now with no tools mod nor` colors nor` nothing they`re broken.. thing is that wen i disabled ALL mods.. the thing came back to normal:/

i fixed it .. i reinstalled and try every mod i had restarted the game after every mod.. now works fine .. wish i knew why this happend .. i tried before 4 times .. i got scared :-s thx for the help anyways !

same thing , and i also backedup the crack from the updater.. so now with no tools mod nor` colors nor` nothing they`re broken.. thing is that wen i disabled ALL mods.. the thing came back to normal:/

i fixed it .. i reinstalled and try every mod i had restarted the game after every mod.. now works fine .. wish i knew why this happend .. i tried before 4 times .. i got scared :-s thx for the help anyways !

Crap, I used J zip, is that gonna kill me? it said it was 7 zip compatible! I loaded sobers list sixty mods I did it right except for the compressor It didn't work so I dumped my game for a clean install shall I switch to 7 zip?

If the files' names in a mod have very long files you can run into problems when extracting a mod.
The software not necessarily tells you that it can't handle these long names but for sure you'll see it when you activate the mod.

I use some mods, but if I get them out with jgsme, I still have this issue.
Not long ago I reinstall the game ( because I crash it all with some mods :D ) and before the reinstall, I dont think I have this sh*t.

You use the 7-Zip File Manager.

Just make sure when you download a mod that you check in the folder you are downloading it to that there is only one file visible. If there are more than one this means the download has been interrupted before it was ready.
You should see just one file like a .7z or .rar file

Just right click on the downloaded, compressed file (.zip or .7z or .rar)
Choose 'Open with' > 7-Zip (you can set your own default program at the bottom of the menu so it opens automatically next time you double click on a compressed file)

When it opens up you see this;

This has happened twice to me I went off mission to sink the ark royal at Portsmouth or something like that and when i try to leave the harbor the game closes and every attempt to restart and get out in 4 to 6 minutes
the game closes again
It is a direct to drive install now called gamefly should i have completed my objective first to stop this from happening?

I just started playing SH5 again i gave up long ago when my game would contiually crash after sinking an Ark Royal carrier, trying to continue on now after all this time and well even with all the new updates the same stupid crash........way to go on fixing a months old problem :x

Today I noticed that the background of the sprite of every tree in the game is not entirely transparent. The result is that every tree is surrounded by a faint grey square.

It might be an issue with my graphic card. I have an ATI HD 6950 with catalyst 12.3. Anyone had this issue before?

I was about to report my findings when I saw your post. I had AA set to multi adaptive in the control panel. Setting it back to multisample solved the issue.

This multi adaptative setting is useless. It breaks every game I play.

Hi guys, I just bought SH5 last night on Steam and I've tried everything I can think of but the game simply doesn't launch.

I run it through steam, it goes through its usual "first time setup," then after it finishes, I get a popup from Ubisoft Game Launcher with the super unhelpful error message "There was a problem starting your game." Ok, thanks, but a little bit more info would have been nice.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Ubisoft Game Launcher and SH5 several times now, and it's done nothing to help. I did my own research on the problem and I found suggestions like "reinstall Ubisoft Game Launcher" (this was Ubi being helpful again) and a few suggestions about a mangled .hosts file. Well, I cleared my Windows/Temp and deleted the .hosts file and replaced it with a fresh copy. Reinstalled UGL again. No dice.

I'm not bothering to ask this question on Ubi's forums because their only response is to direct people to the knowledgebase article telling you to reinstall UGL and the game. I saw it repeatedly posted.

Anyone run into issues like this? Bloody Ubisoft and their DRM; I'm assuming that this problem is more or less related to some aspect of their idiotic DRM scheme. I knew I should have simply pirated it, but I didn't, and now I've paid $20 for the privilege of fixing Ubisoft's game for them.

edit: I finally fixed it. It turned out that the UGL wasn't being totally removed, so I did another uninstall and searched my hard drive for "Ubisoft Game Launcher," removed all the files I found, did a search through the registry for the same and removed all of the keys found there as well, downloaded a program called HostsXpert to reset my hosts file, then FINALLY reinstalled UGL and ran SH5. It worked, thankfully, otherwise it'd have been refund time.

Cant play the campaign, keeps crashing on load
First off, i have searched the internet for answers. I've looked for the 2008 C++ program (stated on other forums), but my computer does not have it. I HAVE removed 2 2008 C++ and 1 2010 C++ programs, to no avail (:P go figure)

Everything in the game works fine, it looks amazing, but;
1.) i can NOT view my graphic settings, the game freezes then crashes with an error report. I can however view the other setting tabs.
2.) when i try to start the campaign i see the loading screen for about 8 seconds, then the game crashes and i see the start up menu (which i have the internet connection turned off)
3.) idk if it means anything, but before i downloaded an update for my graphics driver, i could not do anything. I could only go to the museum, where i saw all black and some shades of blue (i presume its from water 0_o). I was asked by an Nvidia control panel(?) to change my computer's resolution. I did so, and out of nowhere i can play single missions and view the museum (it was laggy). After updating the driver the lag cleared away.

What computer specs i know i use:
Windows Vista 32-bit
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS, but i believe i've updated it (ill double check when i can)

ALSO;
I have bought the game from Ubishop, and downloaded it over the web. I copied the installer to a flash drive in order to move it to my current computer (where i lack internet)
Like i said above, the game works fine on other both the laptop and the computer.
It ONLY has the problems i pointed out above on the computer, there are no problems on the laptop.

Any help would be approciated.

UPDATE: got it to work, had to change the Uplay settings on Launcher

In regards to my other post, i can play the campaign, but 3 new issues have risen.

1.) i can not play the historical missions
2.) i can not view the museum
3.) everytime the game auto saves or if i attempt to manually save, the game crashes back to the launcher. (i can not finish the tutorial)

Since, i have removed the other C++ files and still nothing happens

On the very first mission, I'm a few saves in and just finished attacking a large convoy, receiving no damage. I am now not able to go below 50m. If I do, I immediately sink, even with 100% Hull integrity. Have tried to save and reload with no effect. The sub shouldn't be sinking at 70m or 80m...

i've got an issue and it annoying me. i was playing my save files off my brothers account without knowing it, so 9 hours later i adavaced into happy times. i saved and when i saw my brothers username at the top left i thought i was doomed.:damn: so now i'm trying to disable the scyning on his account so i can transfer the file to my account. but i cant locate the freaking settings.ini file! it's really annoying me.:wah:

My watch crew keep reporting smoke on the horizon when ships are nearby, which would be OK when I was surfaced but they will keep doing it even when I am at 200 metres.

Hi Neural!
Here's one fix for the soundman, providing you've got TDW's UI mod installed and all the patches worked out.
Go into your; data/cfg folder and look for a cfg file called contacts.
Check these parameters under sonar;(Save the contacts file just in case of course so you can replace it if needed).
1. Look for the parameter called Imprecise and change it to 60 (it might be anywhere from 600 to 190)
2. Look for the parameter called Precise and change it to 15 (it might be up around 30 to 60 or so)
So, Imprecise to 60/ Precise to 15
This should get "Benni" to speak up again.
Save the new contacts file as well. It should work. but if you go deactivating and activating mods you might have to replace the new parameters from time to time.

Gotta' PS here as well, One more thing; If your running in travel mode and using time compression, you may have to reset your time compression parameters so that when the enemy is detected, you go to TC1, or aircraft the same.
In short, there are always workarounds to get this running properly.
The Time compression tweeks can be adjusted in TDW's UI mod or you can go to My Docs/SH5/data/cfg/look for "Main.cfg" and you'll find the Time Compression sttings there.

Does anyone ever experience sinking a ship and not getting credit for it? I don't think it used to happen at all, as I can recall. Now it seems like 50% of the time or more it won't even register, like it never even happened. It won't show up on the map, I won't get points for it and it won't go towards whatever mission I'm on.

For example I sank two transport ships, they would have gone towards a 25 ton mission I'm on right now but the mission status didn't move, and they don't show up on the map.

Sometimes with TDWs UI the destroyed marks do not always show and you may not get credit in the message box.

I have never seen this not show in the captains log:hmmm:
If you get no mission credit - it was prob not a correct target (ship type or map area:hmmm:)

Hmm I went back to look in captains log. I didn't save it though as I used my last torpedoes and reloaded to find other targets to try and make count towards the goal.

It was in Arctic Convoys, sink 20 tons from JW/RA convoys. I had been sitting north of Scotland racking up kills when I came across those two cargo ships. They didn't count for whatever reason, and since I don't have those in the Capt's log anymore I guess we'll never know.

I did however heed Sober's advice. I guess either way, the campaign will move forward and I'll get new missions, regardless if I sink all the ships or not. So, in the end its really not a big deal. :up:

I find it so irritating that ALT+TAB crashes the game. It works if you first press escape and then ALT+TAB, but if you don't, it crashes. Happened to me just after I fired my torpedoes, and then pressed the shift key multiple times and that annoying pop up asked me if I want to turn on sticky keys. Argh! :/\\!!

First, while I'm at periscope depth, after loading game I'm on the navigating bridge under the water, even though the save was inside the submarine.

Secondly, my crew can not see through the periscope enemy's ship, although I am seeing it very well, and what affects that I can not lock the enemy ship and track him down.
Thirdly I can not use stadimeter, when I click on the option at xo nothing happens, except that in the window shows the message that can not be calculate speed, distance and AOB.

Any solutions?

When you're submerged try to save your game at the periscope view (look through the periscope)..

I noticed the same. When I'm submerged and under deck and save, then i'll be at the bridge under water after loading. But I think this happened after i used teleporting. :hmmm:

OK this is doing my head in.

Playing the game without any mods, purpose is to figure out what the hell is going on and then take a look at what mods I do want to install.

The thing that is really brassing me off such that I will never spend another penny with Ubisoft is the syncing issue. My broadband and wifi are rock solid connections, and I always wait to enable syncing of saved games.

Yet every so often I will come back and have been put back a couple of days play and saved game(s) missing, wtf is going on, and how do I fix it?

I have read sobers' thread about I can play offline, and whilst I understand what is being said, sort of, what is this new launcher, have been looking for the play offline option and cannot find.

Need a muppet's guide, sorry folks.

Hello,

I have an issue with SH5 in which when ever I seem to get too close to the east coast of Great Britain my game crashes to desktop. No matter what I do I am unable to seem to solve the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

from the bridge order a dive of 8m and see what happens...

sometimes when you right click to change you view and stuff you cannot disengage it


sunk destroyer didn't appear as sunk and was still pointing search lights at me
(its propellors were pointing almost vertically in the air



sinking large vessles in shallow water can sometimes cause them to rise and sink at an angle

I was a little dissapointed becuase the crew is very small and instead of doing shifts the same people are always doing the same things

Don't know if this bug has been addressed earlier...But just after surfacing, I could not open the conning tower hatch to exit the sub. Clicked a bunch of times, it just wouldn't open. This seems to happen every time I play SH5.
Any ideas or fixes???

Sehr Geehrt Kameraden!

I have been out of the loop for a couple of years and am getting back into the SH realm. I noticed there is a newish SH 5, but I have also noticed that there seem to be heaps of problems. As I have a satellite connection, due to my now remote location, I do not want to play this game online.

I also noticed the vast array of messages dealing with so many problems, far more than I have time and opportunity to read through.

If I were to buy SH 5, are there mods that fix the problems I have briefly read about, and, if so, exactly which mods are recommended?

Or, is it in fact worth getting SH 5 at all, or should I just leave it and stick to SH 3?

If its bad weather he can only do dead reckoning which is not as accurate as celestial . Has your base moved to Willhelmshaven ? Use the automation scripts to put a pilot on board your sub and use travel mode at 128TC to travel thru the canal .

What you call 'a vast array of problems' is not a 'problem'. You don't have to read through anything in particular to get started.
That's why we are here. :yep:

This forum is exactly the place to be to get the proper assistance to get the most out of SH5 to your taste.

Rather are these 'problems' a sign of a continuously ongoing development and a proof of a devoted bunch of sub addicts around here. On the contrary, this is a guarantee you'll get a sim developing all the time.
What other sim can offer something like that? :hmmm:

Of course there still are questions popping up from time to time but nowadays I'd say many mods aim at making SH5 a sim that is more realistic, beautiful and enjoyable than ever.

But, we wouldn't be the lucky ones without all them exquisite modders that tirelessly keep going, developing SH5. We mustn't forget to thank those guys. :salute:

For sure UBI wouldn't have managed to surpass the work of all these fabulous modders around here.

Even if there's tremendous efforts put on graphics, gameplay and much, much more the handling of the mods is actually improving and getting more convenient.

I'd say you're in for a real surprise if you give SH5 a shot. If you're a fan of SH3 - SH5 won't let you down.

I can understand that you're hesitating because of all mods needed/not needed, which ones to pick that get you what you want, how to do this and so on but don't worry.
The mates in this forum will help you out and up and running in no time.

So, if you want to get yourself something special - buy SH5. After all, what is the price these days? 20 AUD...

I am having this issue too when I am testing the game (still killing aliens :arrgh!:)
I have noticed that the dock icon is moving - sometimes it is over the top of the TC button and other time it is just missing.

I was going to remove the draggables to see if that was causing it - but have not tested yet.
Either way we should report this to TDW as it looks like a bug with his UI

Hi Sober and Trevally:arrgh!: tnx for the attention and greetings for your amazing mods! Really, if it wasn't for your work, sh5 would be a crap.
Anyway, the navigator's errors are about 2 km wrong and don't seem to improve accuracy with time (i tried five or six celestials). The second mission i requested it's been Breakin' the fortress - Special operation P.
Did my base move to Willhelmshaven ? That's intersting question 'cause all the problem it came from here. I accepted the second mission and went on patrol...loading...my base changed to Willhelmshaven, I ask the navigator my position via celestial and, once calculated, the map shifted to kiel as the mark of the position. I thought to shut off and reload, but now i always start from Kiel.

Yes, I have reinstalled several times, i have logged into uplay correctly, I have a CD not download of the game, but when i go into uplay it wont go to activation screen for SH5. it just says no games. so even though I have downloaded the game, and have a uplay account, i cant get into SH5 because i cant activate the code!!! i dont know what to do!!

As you say you've reinstalled several times you shouldn't have to register the SH5 again.
So, don't try to do it.
BTW, do you see the SH5 in the Uplay?

Hi Robert,

I understand how you feel. Now, a couple of suggestions.

After a fresh install your SH5 should automatically get patched the first timr you launch it.
So, first check your SH5 is patched to v1.2.0
In the main menu in the top right corner you should see the version number. It should be v1.2.0.
If this isn't the case get your SH5 patched this way;

If you haven't already, be sure to run a good registry cleaner after uninstalling to clean up any leftover fragments. Sometimes a key gets left behind and it can be enough to thwart future installs.

i got this photo from ubisoft support, however their solution didnt solve my problem. SH5 is the only game I have with uplay so please disregard the assassins creed stuff. I open uplay after a clean install but it gives me a blank homepage this is after all the latest patches too (v1.2). i bought the game new from amazon.

their solution was to go into control panel and turn off UAC, then retsart pc so UAC will go into effect, then activate the CD, after the game is running ok with uplay, then go back and turn UAC back on and restart again, and the problem should be fully resolved. This however did not work for me, although my uplay is having the same recognition problem :(

I'm having a big problem with my maps. I can zoom in ok using the mouse wheel, but I cant zoom out. This is on both attack and navigation maps. So, I'm stuck at 600m view and can neither see where I am or navigate anywhere. Kind of makes the game unplayable.

Are there any fixes for this? My mouse wheel works fine otherwise.

This sounds strange,
the only fix I can think of is this one; Broken Mouse Bug Fix by TDW (http://www.osibisi.de/developer/AndySites/sh5/magnum_opus/mods/Fix_broken_mouse_(TWDs_UI).7z)

Hey guys, first post although I could have sworn I signed up to these forums a few years back.
Anyway I have an issue I would like help with, I have Sobers Mega Mod list installed (minus Real Nav) and get some shocking underwater views if using the external camera. Does anyone know which mod could be causing this please? I like to track my torps and watch ships sink lol.

OK I disabled it, its got rid of the green tint as the name would suggest and this makes it easier to track torps above water, however its still really really blurry underwater. Any ideas?

Thanks for the welcome guys. One more question, I was playing my first proper patrol today and on the way to the UK coast I used some TC, but instead of it coming out of TC when spotting an enemy ship at a decent distance like it used to for me in SHIII, it did it when the ship was basically ramming me and Depth Charging me :/ is this a mod thing, bug or something else?

I am midway through the 1st campaign (the one after the tutorial) and need to refit, I have tried 4 different ports, I have tried pressing Shift-Z when in the ports and have even tried going into the sub pens but absolutely nothing is working :/
Has anyone got any other ideas?

If you're using NewUIs 7.2.0 test it's a known bug.. have a look at the penultimate page of the NewUIs thread..

1. I can't rotate it, pressing right mouse button but didn't work at all
2. I can't shoot torpedo from both periscopes, so if I want to shoot it, it should be done from UZO

Got the new SH5 game? Is there something out of whack? A bug, some feature that's not working properly?

It's pretty common for a new PC game to have some bugs and glitches, so before we have a forum full of "OMG! The so-and-so feature is broke!", if you come across any concerns, post them here. Be sure to describe the issue fully, when it occurs, and your system specs. Make sure you have the latest patch installed, too.

Have you ever come across a problem in SH5 when you have dived and the speed just keeps falling away to zero even though you may have selected 1,2,3,4, or 5 electric motor speeds? I am still a beginer in tutorial mode (Total Germany)

Have just started to play sh5 again! and I have found a bug where I can't get the type VIIB. First I have VIIA and after I get VIIC, anyone has an solution?

So i guess i found a bug/glitch:

When playing WITHOUT "no map contacts update" and plotting ships positions i sometimes seem to hit exactly on the enemy vessel and gets his range and speed exactly, all this in map mode. I assume when your playing with map updates you get a ship symbol witch you can put your mouse on and get the range/speed. The same things occurs now, just without the actual ship symbol.

I'll try to post a screen of it later.

Is this a known problem? Is there a fix? Kind of ruining the point of manual plotting.

It's not a problem but a feature from the devs. It's called item notes. When you mouse over a contact or something in the game you'll see a display pop up above the message box with information in it. This is what is happening when you mouse over the 'ghost' contact that supposedly doesn't exist on the map. To disable it (item notes) you need a UI mod.

If the list you present in your post is what you are using it seems like you have the mods activated twice. (Or is this just pasted twice by mistake :hmmm:)

Anyway - each mod should be activated only once at a time in the JSGME.

Furthermore I suggest some changes in the load order like this:

I managed to disable the text box displaying speed and range when you mouse over a ship, but i still get a little text saying Mechant or Warship. Is this also posible to disable? Basically i dont want to get any info on the navmap or the tactical map(exept stationary convoy info from radio).

You should to edit the menu.txt (like in Real Navigation) for this..

(comment out lines 820-825 by adding a leading ; if you don't want the tooltips for these to display on the nav map and TAI):

Yes, the squares appear before any mod. Downgrading the driwers made the squares reduce intensity, but not dissapear.

The mods are Shadow Improvement and Realism Environment. With those ones, the artifacts dissapeared from the sky (they were the same squares but blurred)
This was the reply I got from the fellow when I asked him about what mods he had used.

But this could be due to lack of memory.
Please let us know his computer specs, especially RAM
And - are these two mods really the only ones he is using?
Does he really know how to handle the JSGME?

And please check this;

As for the 'Shadow Improvement Mod' -
* Which shadow mod is he using? Shadow Improvement Mod or 'Shadow Super Improvement Mod by tonschk'?
* Ask him to disable the shadow mod he's using and let's see what happens and tell him to lower his 'Shadow' settings in the Main Menu/Graphics.
Shadow effects are very heavy on your CPU.

As for the 'Realism Environment' mod -
* Is it the 'Real Environment' mod he's running?
What happens if he runs the Dynamic Environment SH5 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=182377) ? (I recommend this one :up:)

And check that his game is patched to v1.2.0 If not > run the Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe

Try this and get back to us with his answers

mods: equipment_upgrades_fix_1.4(and corresponding patches), euf uboat fx v0.0.3,open horizons 2 full v2, steel vikings interior mod v1.2, sub-flags 0.0.8, and accurate German flags.
i would like to point out that this occurred without mods though.

-The shadows on the game options are sett to off, as well as the AA.

-The mod I used is hadow Improvement Mod. After searching a bit, I can´t find any other and searching for 'Shadow Super Improvement Mod by tonschk" leads me to the same one.

-Yes, it´s dynamic environment and it´s patched to v1.2


-I used JSGME correctly, as mods as the clouds are easily checked at first sight, and also installing those mods have made a difference on the visuals, even if they couldn´t remove the squares.

I had a similar trouble when first instaling Skyrim, but after new drivers installation and checking some options on the nvidia panel, everyting dissapeared soon. I tried the same , updating the drivers for SH5, and as it went worse (the squares appeared also on the sky) I downgraded the drivers to an old version, but nothing changed.

My guess is there´s something on the shaders of water and shadows that can be changed to adress this problem, but I don´t know which files are the ones for that and what to do with them.

Firstly;
Before doing anything more drastic - just to check that the JSGME isn't corrupted please read this How to Fix Mod Soup Issue by Webster (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1228828&postcount=1) closely and follow it.
One thing to point out is that when you move your mods from the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder to the desktop (or wherever on your HD you like to keep them) this means the mods ONLY, NOT the !BACKUP and !INSTLOGS folders and the 'JSGME.ini' file.

Secondly;
The specs seem to be alright but after some reading on the net I can see that there are some people getting issues caused by the GPU nvidia geforce 555m.
And - just like many mates around here in the forum you could try the d3d Antilag (http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/BadgerFinn), if you not yet haven't, just to ease the stress on the CPU. Make sure you read the enclosed ' readme.txt.txt' file as this is NOT an ordinary mod!! In the 'antilag.cfg' (open with notepad) set it at RenderAheadLimit=2 and
FPSlimit=36. Save it to the same place and make sure you save it as a .cfg file. I say this because when you save this the default is .txt file! Choose file format 'All files' and check after saving check the file still is named 'antilag.cfg'. Nothing else.

If these issues still occur after doing this I'd say it's likely that this happens because of a corrupt install. So, my suggestion is to make a complete reinstall of SH5.

Before uninstalling;
Make a copy of your 'C:\Users\'user account's name'\Documents\SH5 folder.
This is where all saves, personal settings and game progress are stored. After the reinstall - put this copy back to the same place (in the Documents folder) and let overwrite.

After the uninstall;
1. Delete all folders in the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 folder! If possible make a scan with CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) to make sure there are no leftovers.
2. Reinstall SH5
3. Run SH5 at least once just to make sure the game gets patched to v1.2.0.
Should happen automatically but if it doesn't - run the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe
4. Download a new JSGME (http://www.gamefront.com/files/21681483)
5. Put the 'jsgme_setup_v2.3.1.exe' into the 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5' folder and run it. During this first run the JSGME should ask you if you'd like to create a MODS folder - answer Yes.
This new MODS folder must be in the the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 folder like this C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS.

Ready to go.
Put your mods back into the new MODS folder and remember to check that your mods do have this structure; 'mod's name'\data. Nothing more and nothing less.
Some mods come with an 'extra' folder named 'Documentation'. These contain some info on the mod and shouldn't have any effect on the mod.
I myself always take it away before dropping a mod into the C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder, just to be sure.

If nothing of this helps we have to look for some other solution. Please come back and tell me what has happened.
And - when/if testing with any mods activated in the JSGME - please tell me about the load order in your mod list.

I´ll try tonight and see what happens.

Yesterday I tried (again) the nvidia drivers 296.10 and reducing all shadows, AA, and setting the water on poor quality works fine , expect when you look underwater, where the squares appear again :P
I´ll try the file you tell me, as the pc is indeed stressed with the game each time I try to play.

Tried the antilag and the game visually works the same (still the squares) but the computer doesn´t suffer that much than before.

I tried searching for this but found nothing (which I can't imagine, I believe this sometimes happened in SH3 as well). Sometimes when I surface (bad weather might be the reason) no watch crew appears on the conning tower and there's no way I can get them there. I don't know if I am blind because of that or if it's just a visual issue and I sure don't want to find out.
So is this "normal" in this game or is there some sort of fix for it?

Oh yeah I obviously use a modded version. Sobers mega mod + the .exe fixes

alright I see. Thanks. They really should make this game open source, there are obviously enough people who could and would do alot good to this game that way.

Another thing: I'm sitting at 80m with engines stopped (of course, the watch crew is now there) and yet I'm getting pushed South (heading 000) with 4-5 kn!
A day earlier I was getting pushed North with the same speed. There is a storm on the surface but I would think at 80m that couldn't touch me.
Are there underwater currents in the game? I don't think I've ever heard of an underwater current East of Bornholm that changes direction every 12 hours so what is this? Another bug or a feature?

The fog is annoying me to a point that I now have adopted the tactic of Stalking ships in Med Fog from behind. When I get in their wake at close range (say less than 500 meters), I'll switch to the UZO for a surface Torp shot. Sometimes it crashes the game back to windows with not freezes or anything like that. Maybe SH5 is punishing me for not using normal tactics...tho I would have no problem beaming them at close range for the same effect. haha

i DL'd it from steam - i know my computer can handle it - its cost me Ł1500 to build. I'm so gutted as i saw vids of manual torpedo firing and thought 'thats the game for me' - then it didn't work :wah::wah::wah:

Hi,

Please forgive my ignorance. I have spent many fine hours indulging in GWX Gold on SH3 and have just got round to installing SH5.
I have managed to get the game going, but the only way I can steer the boat is to hit the delete (.) key on the keypad . What i want is to bring up the icons for different crew members as in SH3, but I have no idea how to do this. When I access the map by hitting M, I can't plot a course either. I've tried every combination of trying to select the u-boat with left and right clicks and then clicking on my desired first waypoint, but nothing happens. I would also love to get the radio operator to play a grampohone, but am stumped as how I do this either without the crew icons...:wah:
I've tried watching the tutorial videos, but to no avail, any help thankfully received.:hmm2:

sorry for long wait in replying - internet was down:/\\!!
a bit more infor on the problem - i let the opening cutscene play through, found that it just ends - doesn't go to a main menu or anything - still no sound or anything
no mods are installed as of yet - i was going vanilla to start with then add mods as i go.
not sure about the integraty of the DL - i'm at work now (internets still off) so will keep you up dated:salute:

Uninstall and reinstall the UBI Game launcher. I had the same issue yesterday and this resolved it for me. With luck it'll resolve your issue as well!

Hi all, i am new here :)
I have one problem with SH5.:huh: I just finished all five objectives in mare nostrum chapter and got all stars but chapter just wont end. I fast forwarded time till January 1941 and it still did not finished :( I dont know if it is a glitch or I did something wrong but it is frustrating :wah:

ive tried uninstalling the game launcher and uplay - no joy. i've also verified the integraty of the download from steam all 100%, any other ideas lads? i'm really starting to get annoyed at this lmao

Not sure I can help much as I have no experience with the Steam version of the game. If I were in your position, I'd uninstall SH5 and the UBI launcher and do a complete reinstall. If it didn't work then, I think I'd be calling Steam Support and asking for a refund.

Sounds like UBI has decided to put you to a test mate.:nope:
OK, I'd do a complete reinstall and say a prayer it runs after that.
After you've uninstalled SH5 do a thorough scan of your register for leftovers, I recommend CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner)

AND! Don't forget to delete the; C:\User\Documents\SH5 folder. That's where all your settings and saves are stored.
If you have any settings/saves you want to keep - make a copy and save it wherever you want.
This folder will be created again when you launch SH5 next time after the reinstall.
If you want your settings/saves back - just paste your copy into the same place and let overwrite

Please let me know if this works

i've zapped everything related to ubisoft and SH5 from my computer and ran CCleaner like you said to - game is currently downloading again via steam - if i *ahem* acciured *ahem* a copy of the ISO but used my CD key from steam would that work, you think? cause i've had just about enough of this i swear

I have it working now, apparently it wouldn't run because i had the advanced windows 7 themes on, not the basic ones, and that stopped it from working properly. cheers for the all the help guys, but unfortunately you'll have to put up with me for a bit longer:salute::salute::salute:

I had to re-install after not playing the game for some time. Heretofore, the game (DVD version) has run perfectly....

My PC SPECS: DELL 745
CPU X2 2GHZ
NVIDIA 8800GT GRAPHICS CARD
WINDOWS 7 64 bit OS
8GB RAM

From the menu screen, the screen freezes if I try to open the graphics tab in the options menu. If I choose a campaign and then click on start game,the launcher ends the game and logs me out of SH5!!...

I have a clean patched to 1.2 unmodded game..

I've switched off the advanced themes in win 7 and loaded basic theme only.

I've un/installed the ubi launcher.

I've changed the ubi launcher settings

SH5 has worked on this machine for years!!...Ant help would be appreciated...

This seems to be a memory issue to me. Could be caused by your GPU that has a 512 Mb memory (your RAM should be enough to run SH5)

Just in case - if you run one of the following - turn them off
* nHancer
* NVIDIA Display Control Panel

You say;
- 'I've uninstalled/installed the ubi launcher' and 'I've changed the ubi launcher settings'
Do you mean you have - Uninstalled the UBI Launcher and then reinstalled it?
If yes, have you after this even once lauched SH5 without any problems?

And;
- ' I've changed the ubi launcher settings'
Make sure you have these UBI Launcher settings;

If you haven't done the following you should follow these steps every time you make an uninstall/reinstall;
1. Before uninstalling you should copy this folder; 'C:\Users\'Account name'\Documents\SH5' and save it somewhere, i.e. on your desktop. This is where your personal settings as well as your game progress are stored.
(After the uninstall this folder will be created again when you launch SH5 the 1st time).
2. Uninstall SH5 (I use the CCleaner, see below)
3. Delete the folder; 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5' (if it hasn't already been deleted during the uninstall and still is there).
4. (The following is what I do when and if it's necessary to do a reinstall and I don't say you have to do it. Be care ful to set the CCleaner properly! Read the instructions closely! Anyway, I tell you) Do a complete scan for leftovers. I use the CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner)
5. Install SH5 again
6. Launch SH5 (make sure it gets patched) If it doesn't run this little program; 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe'.
7. After this you can make a copy of your copied 'C:\Users\'Account name'\Documents\SH5' folder and paste it into the same place and let overwrite.

I just found out via Nvidia that the Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT is incompatible with Directx 11( and this version is inherent in the win 7 OS), although I have been running this game in the past on the same PC with the same current specs!!....


The only thing that is different from when I first installed this game and ran it via steam is the UBI Launcher....

When I click on 'start game' ,after a brief image screen, the launcher logs me off the game...It never launches into the game properly nor, when I'm at the game menu screen does it allow me , from the 'options' menu, to access the graphics tab as I wrote in the previous post.

Please bear with me and accept my humble excuses for my delayed reply - haven't had much time to plunge into this but I haven't forgot it. :oops:

If Uplay is playing games with you - how and what happened after your latest reinstallation? Did you have to enter your user name and/or password to get in?
I ask because you shouldn't do it or even have to.

When it comes to Steam I'm not much of a help, I have no experience of it. We'll have to look around the forum for some mates that have.

Your GPU shouldn't have any problems running SH5.
Are you running Win7 32 bit or 64 bit?
Home Premium or some other version?

Have you tried to uninstall your graphics card and then reinstall it?
Updated the driver?

When you launch Win7 after uninstalling the GPU the graphics go weird but don't be alarmed. When you reboot Windows should tell it has 'found new hardware' and install (what Windows thinks is) the latest and best driver.
Reboot.

If this doesn't solve the issue I suggest you;
1. Download an older driver (Google for it)
2. Update the driver manually and choose that downloaded driver on your HD
3. Reboot

Or even;
1. Uninstall the GPU but don't let Win7 install it automatically
2. Install the driver manually and choose the downloaded driver on your HD
3. Reboot

No luck Silent Steel...I contacted UBI Tech Support and they suggested starting the game in 'safe mode'...This failed as well.. I know that the Nvidia 8800GT does work with directX 11...I can't load Directx 9...This incompatibility may be the problem...Although I've run this game on Win7 64 bit for years now.

It looks like I'll have to put this game on the shelf until I upgrade my PC.

Thanks for your continued interest...The compatibility test that runs post-install confirms that the system meets the requirements to successfully run the game.. I noticed that this test fails the graphics test if I run with the latest Nvidia driver, but, if I run with Nvidia's previous driver, it passes the test!!

Right, I suspected this was part of the issue. Actually, some updated drivers are not always 'the best one' :nope:

I tried that my friend but uplay still logged me off the game the minute I clicked 'start game'

I have install sobers megamod and runs perfectly well with the exception of the protractor and ruler. When you try to use both of them and you left click your mouse to fix the first point, the point was marked in another place, far away from the center of this tools.

The compass is working well.

Do you know a fix for this ?.

The recogmanual has disappeared. Only the map chart and the 2 pages of knots convergeance are showing. I cant find a key for the recogmanual, tried n like in sh4 but no luck. ?????????????????????????????????????????????

It's a stock bug.. sometimes this happened.. try save/load, maybe it will help..
