having the same issue with twos installed. often ships are sinking/sunk but i don't get the "she's going down" or "xx freighter/tanker/warship sund for xxx tons"
no sunk marker on the map either.
No, it is not the same issue at all...It happens sometimes but your "victims" are shown in your cpt log in any case...

additional issue: everytime when i'm on patrol and need to load my in-patrol save (because other bugs -mostly:tc not going to 1 while aircraft spotted and under attack or own fault.. like standing on the bridge and trying to crash dive without going into the sub in the first place) the currently selected patrol mission gets deselected and i don't get any mission progress even if i sink a small unguarded convoy of 3 big juicy freighter with 7000+ tons each. it's now my third new career, issue persists through all of them so far.

well that's good to know, because i don't get any kind of information ingame if i sunk enough tonnage for the specific area. i do get only the information if my primary objectives (patrol areas) are met, but i'm still sure i'm supposed to sink something while in that patrol area.. if there are other ships than escorts and fishing boats.

Thanks but I am using the stock game without steam and I do know what ships should count. The problem is that often the ones that should count, don't. I don't know what the problem is.A Warm Welcome To The Subsim Community > terryr51

Hi tony
Your picture although difficult to see I believe shows a problem.
Your native resolution shows 1920 x 1080 is that right?
But look at the resolution further down at the bottom.
The native resolution is showing 1024 x 768.
It should be showing the same resolution as in the aspect ratio 1920 x 1080 and that I believe is your problem.
1024 x 768 is aspect ratio of 4.3 SH5 games native resolution for the old vga monitors.
TWOS default aspect ratio is 16.9 for widescreen monitors.
Make sure that your in Game Graphic settings match your monitors resolution and Hz.

My native resolution in Nvidia panel shows 1024x768
What it means? I got widescreen monitor, 16:9 1920x1080...
In Nvidia panel:
perform scaling on: monitor (can not choose enything else)
resolution: 1920x1080(current) (I tried to change here on 1024x768, but no diffrence)
native resolution: 1024x768
I tried change resolution in game to some other, but there is no diffrence.
I tried as well some Jsmge TWoS resolution path (4x3, 5x4, 8x5) and none of this make any diffrence...
I put another screenshot of navi map, where you can see a "frame" in the middle, and when I click on attack disc button it woun't shows up...
In periscope panel, attack disc doesn't want to disappear...(UZO the same)
Everything else is ok, interior of sub, exterior, free look camera is ok.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=1090&pictureid=9391

I made whole new copy of game.
Uninstall everything and install with instruction (check everythink lots of times)

Hi tony
You can see the problem from your new picture.
You are saying you have a vga monitor.
1024 x 768 automatically is 4.3 vga.
Move the slide bar to the top and it should show you 1080p, 1920 x 1080 (native)
This is the one that needs to be highlighted.

It always set up on 1920x1080, but this is not native.
On screenshot I just want to show wich resolution is native.
Even it was 1920x1080 or 1024x768 the problem still exist.
The only diffrence is that attack disc and other tools changing size cause the resolution.

Hi Peter, here what I done:
I get back to windows 7 and everything works fine, problem disappeard.
I know, there was strange things with my resolution, but in windows 7 are the same, and game works correctly.
The problem is still not solved, becouse people playing sh5 on win10, and i still dont know what is changing, when I make actualization from win7 to 10.
Anyway i can play for now, and thanks for your help.
I got another question for you:
How can I change name from Oscar Entwickler, becouse even I write anything, and start new career, than save and load in bunker (TWoS 2.0) in ship's log there is still Oscar E., and U-XX number...?

Hello everyone.
I just came back to SH5 after some time and installed TWOS 2.0 mod (everything was done correctly).
When I start the game and go in the hangar for the first time though, my screen is all messed up. It looks like Charts and GUI have some compatibility issue that shows them completely black. I can't even put them off with a key, half of the screen is black and no buttons to disable them are shown.
See here ---> http://imgur.com/a/Fws0X

I remember having this issue already and at that time I have solved it by changing compatibility to Windows 7/8, but this time it didn't work. I have also installed Directx9 as shown in the FAQ but nothing changed.
My game is not the Steam Version.

I tried all the possible solutions, still no good.
Can you help me?

Short specs:
Windows 10
2.0ghz processor
8GB Ram

FIX:
- Migrated Silent Hunter 5 folder from C:\Ubisoft to C:\Program Files
- Set both sh5.exe and sh5.exe (shortcut) with admin rights and Windows 7 compatibility. Setting only the shortcut doesn't affect the very .exe

Hi Guys
You need to remember that TWOS looks to install in C:/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 5, this probably being the most common installation set up.
If your game is installed elsewhere then it is important to set the installation path correctly.

Check also that your gpu drivers are up to date.
Make sure that the settings are also correct.

Hello rbandeir.

Sh5 is total disaster until you ll install twos modpack (formally the wolves of steel).

Twos is in my opinion best sub sim that will be created..
Nobody develops sim line this nowadays, market is oriented to simple action games...

I can't get SH5 to launch on my computer. When I double click on sh5.exe or click play on Uplay, a small windows pops up(the usual Uplay launching game window) and after like a second, it say "Synchronising your game saves with the Cloud" (which usually pops up after you close a game I believe) and then nothing.

I tried searching for suggestions online, both here and anything else on Google, but I haven't seem this except issue and none of the fixes I tried worked.

Windows 10, got a key for the Uplay Gold version. I installed the game in E://Programs/Uplay, it's a custom folder for my Uplay games. I tried with and without mods, same result. The game never once ran correctly, I never even saw it on task manager, but it could have pop up there really quickly before closing itself.

I have just about given up on SH5. I am using Windows 10 and have SH5 on Steam. It won't give me credit for any ships I sink. Not even in the opening mission (Invasion of Poland) where they spoon feed you the targets. The ship tonnage sunk shows up in the Captain's log but no credit for the mission. I really liked the game but I have been forced to look for a different sub game.:k_confused:

The most immersive ways are to ask the watch officer or go to your crew members at the bottom of screen select first officer to the left ( Motor Engineer ) / then choose the propellor icon you can switch from Diesel to Battery there . * Note tho sub has to be fully submerged and rough seas can cause battery recharge to switch off

Hi Nemofoot

The Tonnage bar not filling is probably the most discussed subject you will find here on Subsim , It will hamper progress thru all Missions and Campaigns not just British Coastal Waters

This bug has been around a long time and has several fixes and workarounds I recommend you read up on Berbsters Guide you will find the link in this thread. There really is no quick fix Mod you can just drop into your game.

There has been a lot of effort put in to make Supamods such as Sobers and WOS to make them as "Noob" Friendly as possible and this process is still ongoing

Installing setting up and playing with these mods enhances gameplay massively and eliminates a lot of Vanilla SH5 Bugs , It may take a little extra effort to get going but its a well worth the investment.

I understand it my seem daunting task a first but if you follow the guide to setting up and don't rush things I'm sure you will be OK

I use Wolves of Steel it meets all the Mod requirements I like, it can be setup so its Fairly Easy to Advanced levels by using the Additional "Add On " mods included in the download

There are tons of Guides Youtube Vids and and the help you need here on Subsim to get you going Full Steam. I thoroughly Recommend you give it a go and don't forget we were all "Noobs" once

If you still need help with the Vanilla Game just ask there is always someone here to help , The Tonnage bug is not difficult to resolve but its something you need to read up on. If you are still having problems try to provide as much info as possible including any steps you taken to sort it out

In all the testing I did earlier in the year I found no reliable fix for the tonnage bar problem. In the end I concluded (not particularly scientifically) that the osi task could sometimes respond improperly or maybe not at all via the windows pipe to initial sh5 messages that would in the past have been sent to ubisoft servers.

Changing task priority and things like this did not improve the success rate in my testing.

In the end I gave up trying to fix it but did discover a method to test the campaign to determine if it had started in this faulty state. And if found to be faulty reloading the save file would usually solve it. This mod was written on top of TWOS though in fact TWOS uses different campaign advance system and so has no specific need for it (at this time).

It should be quite trivial to make a vanilla version of my test mod but I'm very busy at the moment so it wouldn't happen immediately.

BTW TWOS fixes so many other issues that I really would recommend it over vanilla any day (and I play very much on campaign easy mode due to lack of time to learn full realism).

Check that your in game graphics settings match your monitors native resolution.

Check that your gpu is setup correctly.

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this because it drives me mad.

I'm starting a new silent hunter 5 campaign (the tutorial mission) with Open Horizons 2.5, thedarkwraiths UI mod and real navigation. Stock game is updated to 1.2.

Before starting I select full realism with the exception of no external view and stabilize view. I want the external view obviously just because it is cool ;)

The big issue is the "no stabilize view" I have unticked it from the options in the main menu but still, every time I get in game, the view through the periscope is still not stabilized. (the UZO is also not stabilized. This is annoying because it is zoomed in so much that even in completely calm waters I cannot focus on anything)

I appreciate that it adds to the realism but it makes it near impossible to get a proper range to a target. In addition to it just being annoying to look at a moving screen the whole time. It gives me headaches.

Does anybody know why I can't get my view to stabilize? your help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Guys
IIRC the UZO is never stabilized.
When surfaced when using the UZO for its improved magnification and you have identified what you are looking at then swap over to the attack scope and you will get a stabilized view while surfaced.
Don't forget also that the boat on the surface will move more than when you are submerged.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the help so far. This is truly a great forum!

I've been able to sort all issues I've had with your help except one which makes the game unplayable, unfortunately.

I have an issue where every time I hit a ship with a torpedo the game crashes. It's not a CTD but it freezes up completely. Looping 1 second of audio and I have to end process to get control of my pc back.

I read on the Ubisoft forum that it could be an issue with OH2 where the game crashes if you hit a neutral target. (which would technically be the case if you hit a Polish ship in the tutorial mission before midnight as the war hasn't started yet)

So I waited until after midnight before launching my torpedo but it still crashed. Then I thought it might be a graphics issue so I lowered the periscope immediately after launching but it still crashed. My sound guy reported the hit and then the crash happened. I've also tried lowering all the settings but still, it happens. When I disable all mods it doesn't happen so it must be something related to the mods.

I am running the following mods, Hoping anyone might know if these conflict and what I should do to solve it.

Open horizons 2.5 (and the grid patch)
Accurate German Flags
Trevally autoscripts
IRAI TheDarkWraith
ship inertia TheDarkWraith
damage inertia TheDarkWraith
TheDarkWraith's new UI (tried v7.4.2 and v7.1.something)
Less annoying footsteps
deckkannon
realistic ammo for flak and deck gun
diesel
dynamic environment (and the one that makes the night darker)

I don't want to play the stock game. I've done that extensively and I really dislike the TDC in it as well as the limited campaign and non-existent enemy AI.

Really hoping there is a solution because if I can't destroy ships there is no point in playing the game at all and next week I have my dad (actual submarine veteran) over and I would love to show him this game.

Cheers,

Kevin

Hi THEBERBSTER,

Thanks for the help :)

I will send my mod list tonight as I am currently at the office. I will also check with inertia disabled to see if that makes a difference.

I'm currently running a pirated download i'm afraid. I bought the game on steam and that gives me exactly the same issue but also constant CTD's (even in vanilla) so I downloaded a uplay version of the piratebay to see if that is more stable. It does make a big difference because I haven't had any CTD with that. Just this one issue remained.

I have patched it to v1.2 immediately after install and got JSGME along with all the mods from this forum.

Cheers,

Kevin

sorry to post this here. it isn't a bug but I could find the correct tread.

I ran out of fuel and battery power about 150 KM before the nearest friendly base. I had calculated enough for the return trip to Bremen from the Celtic sea but around the coast of northern Ireland I got stalked by a destroyer. Not having any torps left and only 26% hull integrity (previous run in with 11 DDs) I couldn't submerge. I had no choice but to run and burn more fuel than I wanted. So now I managed to get dead in the water just before getting home.

I feel like the game is lacking here. Being so close to home and in friendly waters (there is a friendly destroyer within visual range) They should be able to just tow me to port or refuel me. but instead they are refusing my request for resupply and as far as i know there is no way to send out an SOS.

I can understand if this happens somewhere in the atlantic that my game is done but so close to home I am not accepting this.

Does anyone know a way to get my sub into port or to end my patrol? I sank 7 ships in the western approaches on this patrol and I'm not in the mood to reload an older save game or restart the campaign.. not when I am this close to my home port.

cheers,
Kevin

Just got a frozen game when trying to re position a Supermark. I tapped the "C" key to reposition it and tapped the left mouse button twice pretty quickly. This Froze the game and the Supermark didn't reposition. I thinking I just need to be more methodical with my "clicks" but has there been an issue with Supermarks causing Game Freeze or Crashes?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm... 16GB should be plenty enough Xbox Live Geforce Experience can cause stuttering. A background process as you say is most suspect some Antivirus can really hog resources

Hey Peter, oh yes he does ! Full morale.

I ordered him to do a celestial and this time he did it in about half an hour.

Might have had something to do with the automated scripts.

On another note, not really a glitch but an issue that bothers me, whenever I use the binoculars on deck (not the UZO, my own) I get a darker image, daytime as well as nighttime.

This causes a problem because I all of a sudden cannot see stars anymore at night (or not as many as I should be seeing), and during daytime the darkened lens severely hampers viewing. Is there any way, other than to start editing the .dds file to change this ?

I want clear binoculars (Kriegsmarine U-boat personnel also kept their binoculars quite clear)

:Kaleun_Binocular:

Now I came across a very annoying problem just now.

It is 23-1-1940 and I received a BdU message dated 05-10-1939 at

When trying to decode it, following all steps, but the number coming up is 312 with Triton. However, the envelope (1940) stays in Hydra and refuses to change code names when I click on it. It also will not change years (if at all possible). Therefore this message cannot be decoded.

It was a message for U,** so probably not even worth decoding.

So is my Enigma defective ? Or just the program/present mission I am doing (Western Approaches).

Would love some explanation/help here.

I have read all there is about this problem.

It does not fix it. I also have watched and followed all tutorials about the enigma to the letter. I keep getting jibberish.

If a message is dated the fifth of Oktober 1939 and arriving the twentythird of januari 1940, I should be okay with the word Strom and not Mundung, does not matter that the message was sent in Oktober 1939. Tried that and failed.

When I then follow (to the letter) all instructions in video as well as documentation, and when I open the assigned envelope, it will NOT give any other codeword than Hydra, nor any other year than 1940.

I tried several things. Change the month to oktober (1940) not working
Januari 1940 with the fifth day (bdu message day 1939) not working
Januari 1940 with the day message received (23-1) not working.

So you can tell me to read documentation all you like. It does not work, period.

Step A: open kennwort envelope : Januari 1940 = STROM
Step B: Code given is :
RN
CT
EC
SW

Step C: Look up CES (Gives 312)
Step D: Look up 312 (gives TRITON)
Step E: Envelope Schlussel M [Refuses to change to Triton, keeps at Hydra. Month can change]
Step F: Day key (jan. 23 1940 = Beta A, VIII H, III M, VI S.
Step G: plugs : 22/8, 18/21, 24/3, 5/20, 4/10, 17/6, 16/11, 2/9, 1/15, UIDZ
Step H: Type in NTCW, get GSNH
Step I: Put GSNH on rotors.

Start decoding the message and...

GET GIBBERISH AND NONSENSE YET AGAIN.

Hi, I just installed SH5 with TWoS + Real Navigation + Enigma.

I went out to the Danzigbay yesterday and saved at around 04:00 when I got smoke on the horizon. Today I went closer and when I could see the flag and mast, although small, and I tried to guess the distance. Could see the ship had 2 smoke stacks and tried to find a ship that looked like it.

But the problem was that I could not press the "send mast height to tdc" button. And looking online, it said I needed to lock first. But pressing X also didn't lock.

What can I do best? Reload from 04:00, or can't the game handle saves when enemies are in the area? Or can I "unstuck" my buttons or something?

Thank you.

(And how do I keep the luftwaffe away? :P)

You cannot keep the Luftwaffe away that close to land.

Lock/break lock is done with space. Check keyboard layout with F1 and advanced mode with ctrl. Press shift ro see more help options.

You need to press the space bar first to lock the target which will open the TDC.
You can then send the mast height to the TDC from the recognition manual short cut key E.

Lock/Break/Lock will only show if it is enabled from the Scopes Tab in the Options File Editor Viewer.

I did do a fast test round, before this one. And then pressing spacebar opened up the "weapon commander"? window, pressing X would lock on target. Or maybe it was the other way around, tried pressing both.

But neither one of them worked today, spacebar or x. What could be wrong?

(Tracking the ship also let the weapon command give some estimation of the ships course, can I disable this? I would like to this myself and the information looked totally wrong, 4000 Kts etc...)

Am I correct in understanding that when having just sunk a freighter and moving away under water the sound guy calls it a freighter fast speed moving away in medium distance and not any wreckage ? Since he should not really call a contact a contact when it is clearly the ship I just sunk....

Not really...If the unit is declared as "dead" by the game , AI sensors can't pick it up anymore...

Okay!

Next question.

Just got ordered by BdU to investigate a contact outside of my patrol area.

Area: AN0286 200 km.

Contact 55° 37'N 7° 3'W... That is well outside my 200km range. Can this hurt my ongoing 48hrs patrol timer?
As in... Wil my timer restart because I left my patrol area?

.

That means that you have recently sent status report and now BdU is informing you about registered nearby traffic.

Read here more about campaign and mission timers...http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2377332&postcount=3816 (from FAQ and Gameplay tips)

Well then they are quite stupid since I am out of ammo fully which they should know from my status report so I can only do covert intelligence gathering until the patrol ends. Or until I go home to end the patrol early or refit at Helgoland.

the link you posted however does not tell me if my 48hrs Patrol timer stops or does not stop when leaving my patrol area at the orders of BdU. No new area has been assigned. And I want to prevent getting stuck in a patrol. 1939 I did 4 patrols. This is the first of 1940 (26-01-1940)

Mate, don't forget that this is only a game after all. There is no "BdU" or U-Boats or Hitler and Winston Churchill...Only bunch of code, scripts and polygons with "glued" textures.
All SH games are basically pretty much the same in it's core and they have it's own way how they are dealing with things. :yep:

Well what can I say... Die hard simmer here. Who likes advanced AI hahahahahahaha

If I knew how to I would mod the entire BdU experience so they react to more than just status report and contacts, as well as give you rtb or refit orders if you are out of ammo and send a status report. But I am fairly new to this modding business so so far all I managed to do is tweak some settings and add some Rammstein to the gramophone and edit a few .dds files.

Have you used your promotion points to upgrade the Cook's Special abilities so he can do the Special Meal ?
I've found that the crew moral thing does not work very satisfactorily in any case. The Cook prolly being the worst case. For me moral appears to fluctuate for no apparent reason sometimes . There has been tons of threads about it

In the vanilla game the Cooks Special meal once used would take an eternity to become usable again ( At least for me anyway )

The Crew Management in the Stock game is so far removed from the earlier SH versions its almost not worth bothering with and in certain circumstances can have a negative impact on the game and is worth searching /reading a few other posts about it

The Automated Script thing I've not come across myself sounds really odd . Have you tried run another Script then stop the script running , save then restart ? I'm not really knowledgeable enough to give a more technical explanation it can be very complicated

Ashikaga
02-28-18, 06:41 PM
No have not yet tried that. About the cook, yes he is on level 2 in the special meals department.

I found that in TWoS whenever my crew lacks motivation ordering the bosun to do crew management works. Especially handy when your radioman refuses yet again to encrypt .

Also, contrary to what is written in the mod explanation I have noticed that saying keep up the good work regularly does help slightly with morale points. The only problem I still see is that damage repair is always below par and very unrealistic as well as way too slow. That one cannot choose personally what to repair is a pity. I changed the ridiculously long time the navigator takes for a celestial fix too in the options editor. To a more realistic 900. A friend who is a navigator told me that a celestial fix does not take close to an hour anyway.

Some things I cannot tweak yet since I know too little about modding myself sadly.

Say, from sunny to stormy and vice versa...

Hi Again Ashikaga

The Weather change is unfortunately something carried over from the Vanilla game not much you can do other than keep restarting and getting the weather to change to what you want or back to how it was when you made your last saved game

The Tankers Etc should be in the Manual . Is it possible they are hidden in the drop down menu and require you to scroll down or open another tab ?

The Timing of the Navigators Celestial fix is really down to personal preference and is one of the big advantages of the options file viewer and there is plenty more tweaks to go at

Hi guys,

I love SH5 and start to play again after long time of abstinence. Despite I am not an expert of mods and use the games usually as they are I tried the TWoS mod.
The intro is brilliant and I can Switch through the menue without Problems. But when loading missions the game stops suddenly and return to Uplay as I would have stoped it at my own.
Its not a steam Version but an old CD one now linked to UPlay.

No clue why it happens and now I hope somebody could help.

I have the disc and when you are done installing, go into the folder and find game updater. Inside the folder is an application called “GU”. Click that. It fixes s lot of things from the start. You have to do this if you want to play TWoS.

Thanks for this advice. I downloaded the patch 1.2 from the web and installed TWoS again. Now it works.
And it's demanding :)
I have to learn again the procedure to find all setting for launching a torp.

Unfortunately the game still crashes unexpectedly as it already did before without a mod. either when saving a mission or when loading is almost finished.

However it's a very nice mod.

Hi Max :hmmm:

Right click on the Silent Hunter 5 .exe go to properties then the compatibility tab 2nd box down is Compatibility Mode Check box # run this program in compatibility mode for ; Windows *

using the drop down menu you can change it there * I note comment by The Berbster RE: Should not have to change it but its worth a try. You can change it back easy also you can set it to run as Admin at the same time [ Don't forget to reverse any changes if necessary that don't help its easy to loose track and get into a mess ]

If it still crashes - in the same tab you could try changing the " Override DPI Scaling Behaviour "

GOOD LUCK

Ahoy bstank06,

thanks to your tutorial I am able to hit a ship time to time. I am only struggeling with the TWoS mod a bit switching through the officers and icons.
One ship is not a problem but how to attack a convoy? Only one target can be tracked until the gyroscope is at 0 to launch the torps, right? To target a second or even a third one always ends in a mess as I do it one by one. Finally the convoy falls apart.

Anything I missed ?

I have the Steam version of SH5 and have just used the full SH5 Ver 2.2.3 expansion pack to upgrade to the latest version. To get to where I am now I first had to uninstall SH5 version 2.0.0 and I also uninstalled Steam. After numerous re-boots I finally had a PC that had no registry or file entries of any previous Steam/SH5 programs on my C:\ drive.

A fresh instance of Steam was installed on a separate drive (not C:\). Following the 2-page printed instructions I downloaded through Steam my SH5 in its vanilla glory. After a re-boot when I ran SH5 it failed due to there being no Uplay. I would have thought that Uplay would have been included in the Steam installation. I downloaded the Uplay installer and installed Uplay and registered.

On the second try SH5 woke the captain out of hes sleep and I knew all was on track. I downloaded the Ver 1.2.0 SH5 upgrade, but as the installation started, a window appeared indicating that this version did not require this upgrade.

Following the instructions Step-1 to Step-4 upgrading SH5 from Vanilla to Ver 2.2.3 was from that point simple and straight forward. Today I sailed into Danzig Bay, another satisfied customer.

To all who have added mods that have improved and enhanced SH5, from my side, a Silent Thank You.

goes up to 64 then when I click next to go to 128 it defaults back to 1 This is probably caused by ships being picked up as contacts.
You cannot go passed TC64 until the contact is out of range.

Go to Documents\SH5\data\cfg\main cfg
Mine looks like this but yours will be different.

Hi MND
Your TC1024 is too large in some settings.
For example; AirEnemyDetected=1024 needs to be a lower number as you will be killed because you will never know that the enemy is there.
Initially you would have the stock game TC settings when you install the game.
TWOS will change the stock settings to its own TC settings on install based on how the game is setup.

Thanks for the help Berb. i changed my gfx card settings and also installed a game booster and it has sorted the problem. I loaded the save and instead of getting a slide show of 1 and 2 fps it is performing like it was when i started the campaign. After 4 years of this happening i can finally get to sink some ships of my home town in the northeast uk. :D

Thanks again Berb you are a star and a true hero of this forum

Started playing this last summer but stopped when uplay updated in july and all my ubisoft games stopped working. So, new computer in Nov. started putting all my games on and decide to give another try. Really wanted to give the mods a go so I became a member and downloaded Sobers megamod and started the process of trying to set everything up. I was expecting it to be somewhat taxing, but wow, problems right from the start. downloaded the game and it doesn't update. I find a thread that suggests running the updater manually, it works, Yea! Updates to 1.2, now the game won't run. When I try to start from the SH5 exe. I get a message saying i need a file called Particles.act and to reinstall the game which I have done now about 10 times. If I go to the uplay launcher and try to start the game it says
Process ID=0x87c (2172), Thread ID=0x1404 (5124) and then says something about debugging.

I just tried to start it again and it just says thank for playing and bumps me out... sigh. Anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this has been answered before , I spent a lot off time looking through this thread but didn't see anything relevant.

Notwithstanding or trying to say Sobers mods are not any good, But from experience. huge MOD soups cause a lot of problem's, Ill say that TWOS is the most established, stabilized mod out there. I do not have any CTD"S or problems with playing. I would advocate you do a complete re-install to stock and then use TWOS mod for your game .. you will be a lot happier :Kaleun_Salute:

Hi CAJ
Notwithstanding or trying to say Sobers mods are not any good, But from experience. huge MOD soups cause a lot of problem's, Sobers mega mod has as many mods as TWoS and should not ctd if correctly installed.

The difference being in TWoS in JSGME you do not see the mods with Sobers you do.

You must use the games SH5.exe with sobers

So.... The bow of my boat will not lower, just sticks up. Because of this, the boat will not dive properly, resulting in either being surfaced, or just the Conning Tower and Bow surfaced.

Have restarted campaign already. BTW What kind of game is it, that that is a standard fix.

No damage whatsoever to my boat.

Mine is hopefully a simple question and just an item I missed. I loved the ability to lock the view on our sub when underway. With SH5 I can't find the option to do that. I'm running with TWoS and just learning how to use it. Have I missed the option to activate that function in either TWoS or the options file editor?

That's FAR from being enough to avoid all sorts of mal-functionning in SH5.:yep:

The minimal modlist for SH5 should be something like that (you can skip the OH2 campaign mod):

(Preliminary): SH5 updated to 1.2.0 + TDW Generic Patcher applied
FX_Update_0_0_22_ByTheDarkWraith
Torpedo Circle FIX (adequate torp update from mod above)
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_ByTheDarkWraith
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_FIX_Message_English_XOTDC_Auto_Ma nual_TDC (self-made not available, skip it)
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_TheDarkWraith_FIX_Destroyed_Ship_ Marks (self-made not available, skip it)
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_Sjizzles_Charts from TWoS
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_New_radio_messages_German
IRAI_0_0_41_ByTheDarkWraith
Accurate German Flags
DeckGun Friendly Waves
No_Damn_Bubbles_No_Damn_Halo_Mod_ADJUSTED (use the original one)
Automation Scripts from TWoS (skip it if you want)
Trevally Harbour & Kiel Canal Pilot v3.1 (a must or the harbor pilot for Kiel will not work)
OPEN HORIZONS II v2.5
OH II v2.5 Grid Request fix Patch SH5
TWoS_ADJUSTED_Stormys DBSM SH5 v1.3 Basemod (can be skipped, better crew sound, only the sound, without keyboard changes and without AI scripts)
TWoS_ADJUSTED_Stormys DBSM SH5 v1.3 additional crew sounds beta6 (can be skipped)

You can also skip all TDW 7_5_0 and dependent mods, but then you have no advanced crew commands, no useful additional maps and no automation features.

Then you will have to use my mod to advance in the campaign if you are using OH2 with the tonnage bar (not published yet).

I propose that you load all this and we speak again if you still have trouble...

Hi Q
Your first picture is showing one of the map options corrupted that you can make changes to.
Both pictures show obvious corruptions.

After installing your game must be updated to v1.2.0
Post #5 Update SH5 From v1.0.5.0 To v1.2.0 Immediately After Installing > Pictorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2182963&postcount=5)

This could be a Direct X problem.
You must have the correct Direct X version for all Silent Hunter games which is version 9c.
This should come as part of the installation which you usually have to acknowledge for it to be accepted to be installed.
DirectX 9.0C > Download Link > Essential Application For All SH Versions (http://filehippo.com/download_directx/)

You also need to check that your gpu is setup correctly.
Post #239 Changing The Nvidia GPU Settings > Essential Settings > Pictorial > Missing pictures replaced (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2330173&postcount=239)

Post #417 How To Run The SH5.exe As Administrator > Pictorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2515232&postcount=417)

SH5 does not need to be run in any compatibility mode for Windows OS.

Here is another fix worth trying.

I have been runing a few test games with 2.2.7 and found the following issues but they might be game related and not mod related.

When a lot is happening in the boat and outside of it the game has a tendency to get extremely slow in framerate as well as unresponsive to mouse click input. Especially if, say for instance your zentrale is full of smoke and water is coming in from all sides or if and when a large convoy is being attacked by multiple subs.

Also when loading a savegame the captains log gives no date at previously sunk ships but a series of numbers like -211889--75--24 or 0-000000--00--00 , this while the sunk ships do register as tonnage and promotion points still count.

Can you tell me whether this is game or mod related?

Thanks in advance !

I have sunk the Aircraft carrier as part of the "sink 5 AMC's and one aircraft carrier".

The problem is that my game stops working when I try to leave the area.

After sinking the aircraft carrier I immediately saved the game(so I would not have to wait for the ship to come along again) then resumed the game, thinking that that may work, but it didnt.

Can someone please help me with this, its getting really annoying.

Hi CA
After sinking the aircraft carrier I immediately saved the game That is most likely the cause of your problem.
Making a game save and then "Resume" can cause problems.
Making a game close to the sunk ship can also cause problems.
Making a game save submerged can cause problems.

With the stock game I personally would move 60k away from a destroyed mark before making any game save.

I'm playing TWoS Mod. To switch to the new campain i have to sail around from 10 May 1940 to 7 Jun 1940.

Allright so far.
Now i have sighted a big convoy without escorts. After sneeking in the right position, picking the best targets i fired all torpedos. 2 big ships (passenger liners) go down, two other (tankes) are heavely damaged an will sink in time. Bow sinks more and more in the water.

--> NOW: Very proud of the amazing success I make a savegame.

Only to do some testing and do some funny stuff i went surface right in the middle of convoy and open fire with the deckgun to the two damaged ships.

After one blows up in a huge explosion i took some damage because of been fired from other ships.

So I want to take it seriosly again and load the savegame.

And: no damage to the ships but all tubes empty

Salutations everyone,

I'm playing SH5 with WOS mod. Loving it. Playing on full realism real navigation etc.

I am having a bit of trouble with ship recognition.
The manual has a filter function where you can set for example "1 stack" or "2 stack" chimneys. Or you can select what type of bow the ship has etc. To help you figure out what ship you are dealing with.

There are however 2 other filter functions that never work for me. And that is the superstructures on the ship if they are split or in the middle of the ship etc. When I select that filter it does not show any ships. I know this is not correct as I can cheat and see what ships they are. Those filters don;t seem to be working properly.

Anyone know what I'm on about? And do they experience this aswell?
Can it be fixed? Thank you for any info.

Greetings,

I apologise in advance if this problem was reported before and may be fixed even, but this forum is so massive, so if it was: please just point me in the right direction.

I seem to have a problem with my stopwatch not working. To be exact it does not start when i click on it. Instead it just switches from normal stopwatch to "attack stopwatch" (The one with all the lines and numbers on it). I sometimes have to click 10-15 times until it starts/stops again. Switching modes back and forth again during this time. Needles to say, measuring time is impossible like this. Anyone else having this problem? Or is there something i am doing wrong?

Playing with TWOS and the following additional mods:

i also changed the ui to SH3 at some point but the problem was there before.

I'm experiencing and issue with one specific destroyer that seems to shadow my every move. I've dismissed it just following/observing as the mimicry of my every move is too exact. It hasn't detected me so there's no reason for it to behave the way it does. I've recorded my issue to show the problem.

Also when I am at snorkel depth and chose the snorkel I can then charge the battery.

But I thought then snorkel was for using diesel engines under water? At least what I read about U-Boats from WW2.

Here is a checklist you have to go through:

Which version of WoS? Did you install it with Admin Rights as instructed by the install Readme?
Did you install DirectX, .Net Framework, Visual C++ that comes with the game and the WoS installer? This is necessary even if you have a newer version of it installed already.
Are all your game folders free accessible, not write-protected?
Do you play with the SH5 shortcut in 'Start as Admin' compatibility mode?
If you have Win10: Do you play with the SH5 shortcut in 'Win7' compatibility mode?
Possible game crash reasons: Did you check the gameplay documentation that comes with WoS? There are numerous anti-crash tips in it.

My tip: Especially check last point above, go in your savegame folder, open the last savegame '000000x', delete the file special.txt, restart and reload this savegame. If your save was corrupted chances are you can play OK now.

When you have done and checked all this, and still it doesn't solve, then go describe the *specific* problem you have in the TWoS thread located in the mod section of SH5. You would need to be very specific and provide screenshots also, so that your problem can be reproduced. If not, or if just saying 'it crashes', this won't get you any help.

Thanks for the replies and welcome guys. I followed the instructions (PDF download with the mod) to the letter making sure that I had the correct version, started the game once before, permissions etc. However I am running this on a really new system that is purely my gaming PC and I have a ton of new games on it so I am really hesitant to roll back DirectX or the .Net framework etc., I have uninstalled everything and I am currently downloading the game again.

I did try the compatibility (win 7) and run as admin but again it crashes at the exact same spot, that last torpedo hit on that first ship does it every time.

Can you recommend any other Mods that will up the graphics that might not want you to roll back anything?

If not and the game is just too old, then I understand and will just have to play vanilla. Thanks again for all the help!

TWoS is the most stable mod out there, everything else is far less reliable.
Crash problems with TWoS that cannot be reproduced are generally due to bad computer setups (including missing Admin Rights), bad usage of external mods, or bad install procedures.
Instead, what can be reproduced is mentioned in the WoS doc with possible solutions and mostly has to do with the stock game malfunctions not possible to solve.

There is a similar problem related in the WoS doc:
-----------------------
- I've attacked a convoy/task force, damaged lead ing ship/battleship and some time later my game CTD?
Yes, there is still one lurking issue withing IRAI ship tactics scripts that we still can't "catch". This will hap pen only when convoy/group leader
(in escorted groups) is damaged but not "dead". To avoid this, try to hit leading ship/battleship with more torpedoes so she can "die" faster.
However, the issue is not present when dealing with unprotected convoys, single warship and almost impossible to occur when dealing with
large convoys. TWoS campaign files are heavily modified to avoid this issue as much as possible.
-----------------------

Oh and: this doc also mentions how to report bugs...

With uncomplete info, I cannot help you. Historical Missions and their tutorial scripts have their own handling finesses, also don't expect them to work 100%. And if you mean the 1st campaign tutorial, then you are not playing TWoS but the stock game...

Devinous
05-28-19, 08:37 PM
Wait I am confused, the tutorial is not part of the mod? It says in the instructions (with a slight typo) to save the game the second you are in the bunk "Start new campaign and save the game when you appear in the bunker for the first time" Although I think you are correct about the tutorial having issues as I reinstalled the entire thing and now all of my torpedoes are duds. They either do circles in the water or bounce off the hull lol. It gave me the option of skipping the tutorial and I am currently on the hunt for my first kill. Hopefully the dud torpedo thing is local to just the tutorial.

Devinous
05-28-19, 09:48 PM
Hopefully the 3rd time a charm thing is real! 100% torpedo dud ratio with dud torpedoes turned off in realism settings. Just wiped the slate clean and I am downloading again. Would really love to play TWoS fully, its an awesome mod compared to vanilla. Just not having any torpedoes kinda kills the game, I did however sink one merchant with my main gun before I uninstalled lol :)

Please give us a screenshot from your Main Menu. I suspect you are not playing TWoS. If so, then there is no wonder that you have trouble, the stock game doesn't work and is full of bugs.
What do you see when launching TWoS, can you describe that shortly?

I am reinstalling again and will tell you once I install it. I think I remember it being the same as vanilla but red or deeper colors. You can definitely tell in the ocean and sky that the textures are upgraded. Should it have a wolves of steel logo or something.

Also someone mentioned about part two below _ but I am able to install all 9 patches and the snapshot says its successful. I will take screen shots of the install after I download it again and try and post.

Step 2:
The Generic File Patcher window will pop-up automatically after Step 1 is done*. Select
desired language and properly activate the Patcher:
· Click "File" - "Open" and start hitting "enter" key ("Yes", 40 times or so) until all 9 patches are
visible in programs window.
· Now, click "File" - "Restore snapshot" and double click TWoS 2.0_Snapshot.gps file.
· Close the Patcher.

Has anyone on the forum come across people with mouse problems in twos expansion or Silent hunter in general.
I have a few months ago bought a nice gaming mouse and have played around 6 other games with absolutely no issue whatsoever so I don't think this is a hardware problem.
When I am in game, after a little while its like the game overides my computers sensitivity settings and makes it incredibly frustrating to control your character. The slightest touch of the mouse can spin the camera.
After a few seconds of this it reverts back to my normal feel but it repeats again and again making this game basically unplayable for me.

Strangely enough, sometimes when it happens in the bunker before a patrol, this annoying problem is accompanied by what sounds like my character frantically trying to tap dance or stay on his feet. the echoing footsteps rapidly increase while my mouse gets hard to control.

Sigh I'm so fed up, I bought all the Silent hunter games in a package just to play TWOS.

One of the major drawback of TWoS which has tons of mods loaded is: mouse clicks sometimes don't work. Here are some guidelines:

- If you first enter game, go up and down the ladder and shortly go in the neighbour compartments to 'fill the computer cache'. If you skip it the teleport will not work correctly, and the mouse will also be reluctant to work.

- If right mouse button doesn't work, hit 2 times NUM-ENTER key to unstuck it;

- If you mostly use the mouse instead of key shortcuts, continue to use the mouse for everything - or use the keyboard for everything, avoid using both.

- DON'T ALT-TAB out of the game, this will mess up all controlls badly and you have to save/reload (you notice bad behavior with CO2 filling the sub, or your watch crew missing on the bridge).

Technical note:

All this mis-behavior is due to the TDW NewUI 7_x_x mod, part of TWoS, and there is no way you can fix it. It has to do that all the mods are loaded as changed files and not 'correctly' by dll, exe, or other 'proper' game files. This makes a big performance and quality difference. Mods are not the same than a genuine original game.

I hope this helps, cheers,

There I was happily playing Silent Hunter 5 & loving it.
When I tried to play the sim again I could not login despite many attempts, even changing my password & setting up 2 stage verification.
So I went on to UBISOFT support and did an online chat only to be told that my account had been breached,I am 99.9% confident it was not at my end as I have a very good security suite on my laptop.
Could this be a lack of security by UBISOFT/STEAM?
I will leave it for you to decided, but I would strongly suggest changing your password & setting up google authentication.

I have spent around 20 hours trying to get back into my account, dont be like me,take preventative measures first save yourself a lot of frustration.

In all your post I miss the word U-Play. Have you an U-Play account? This is necessary to play the game, yes, with account+password+game key (game key from Steam or other providers).

Go in the game folder Support\GameUpdater, launch gu.exe while you are online, create account with password and enter your game key, update game to 1.2.0,... play (or install TWoS mod).
If this doesn't work you would have to install U-Play separately and then create account etc. like I say above, if you own the game on Steam it's best to go read the Discussions there to know how to do it, I have no idea...

Welcome to Subsim!

Sorry. I should have mentioned that Uplay was installed, but by having Silent Hunter 5 installed, along with Steam & UBISOFT, I would have thought that it was obvious that Uplay was installed and I have 1.2 installed.

My point however was to make people aware that an account had been breached and advise them to consider changing their passwords.

I recently picked up SH5 and TWoS mod, and I'm trying to enjoy it, but SH5 seems not to like my trackpad's scrolling feature, as I can't set ring settings on my Enigma, and about all I can really do with it is change periscope zoom levels. Anyone know any fixes or share my pain?

Have done.

It's a Synaptics Touchpad where I can simulate a scroll wheel, and like I mentioned in the previous post, I can switch periscope zoom just fine. I was just wondering if anyone else had bothered trying the game with a trackpad and found any workarounds short of buying an external mouse.

Hi all, so I'm somewhat a noob at all this. I played SH3 & 4 some years ago and yes I JSGME Mod the Subs which was fantastic.

So I like most of you enjoy authentic period correct detail and one of them is Flags, now I'm not political, I respect why the Nazi symbol is not present in today's gaming as I also play IL2 and the German Aircraft have part of the swastika... Meh close enough.

However, I followed the tutorial in installing the Accurate Flag series of files which was pretty straight forward as JSGME couldn't be more straight forward enough, but now it appears my Sub no longer has a flag nor a flag mast:wah:

So any suggestions?

Thank You in advance and I love the SubSim site.

Ok, I just started playing silent hunter 5, and using automatic targeting because the game is very different from SH 3 and 4.

When i try to sink a stationary ship, there are no problems, the torpedo goes wherever i point the scope.
But when I try to sink a moving ship, the torpedo never goes into the direction where i want it to go (or anywhere near it)

the torpedoes just go straight, or they make a sharp right corner.

does anyone know what i might be doing wrong, or whats wrong with the game?

P.S. i don't know if it is important, but the TDC guy always says that ships have a speed of 0 knots and a distance of 500 meters, i filled both things in manually to try and hit the ship.

also, i've attached an image so you can see what i mean. edit: that didn't work, here's a link

Are you playing with mods? If yes, you are not using Auto-TDC correctly, and without mods you should not even play the game, too many bugs.
Load one of the megamods and read about how to use Auto-TDC.

I just ask myself ??? WHEN THE SH2 MADE AND WAS INTERACTIVE IN THE MESSAGES SENT AND RECEIVED WITH THE SECONDARY MISSIONS, BUT MISSING SOMETHING... LIKE SH3 BUT DON'T HAVE SH2 IN SECONDARY MISSIONS, BUT WHAT MISSED IN OTHERS WAS MORE LIFE AT SEA, SAILERS WALKING ON SHIP SHIPS. Finally they made the SH5 and instead of adding everything that existed in the others and not adding anything else, they managed to end up with what was almost perfect ... not understanding how they can, although they also do the movies that are good and other. Would probably depend where the torpedo detonates causing the most damage

DicheBach
09-13-19, 06:51 PM
Just started playing SH5 and wanted to know if there is a fix to the number torpedos it takes to kill a small ship.

Generally one should be enough for at least up to 7000 tons, but conceivably up to 15,000 depending on crew size and damage control capacity. You just gotta "hit it good!" meaning, low enough that flooding is good, and close enough that the explosion actually makes a hole (larger is better). Causing immediate damage to things like engines (which ostensibly provide power for things like pumps) is bonus, and hitting explody things like fuel or ammo ++bonus!

I don't know how the game handles damage control. But in terms of real life: in the absence of a large and well-trained crew and a vessel that is built for extravagant damage control (e.g., an carrier or battleship or large cruiser) one torpedo that is "a good hit" should be able to kill just about anything. If it doesn't then it "wasn't a good hit."

Recommendations: only shoot at things at 1500 m or less (<=1000 is even better).
Always try to shoot within 10 or 15% of the bottom of the ships draft. (shooting under and relying on the magneto thing never works for me). Keep in mind, the lower you shoot, the more chance for a undershoot (and a complete miss if you are using the pistol detonator and not the magnetic) which means complete miss.
Aim toward the rear third more than the middle or front.

Your Steam version is most likely already at the proper version. Look in the Steam install folder, "SteamApps / Common / Silent Hunter 5" folder, right-click on the "sh5.exe" file, left-click on "Properties" from that menu, then click on the "Details" tab. You should see a line "Product version 1,2,0,0". Hopefully, you did not install into a Program Files folder, but rather something of your own naming choice, outside of the Program Files folders?... :salute:

The "splash" screen will be about 1/4 of your monitor's space, but the game itself should open full-screen after going through the loading preliminaries. With a Steam game, it is best to start the game from the Steam menu, whether you start the Steam app itself and use the menu there, or you use the Windows Start menu and start it there. If you start it from the SH5.exe file in the game folder, it will attempt to start through UPlay, which does not function correctly in a Steam install. Steam wants to do its license check on your game...

What is the "native" resolution of your display monitor? Windows will show that as "recommended" in the display properties for screen resolution. You want to set Windows to that resolution. Then once inside the game, on the main menu is an Options choiice, and on it, a Graphic Settings tab where the game's resolution can be set, if it's not correct... If your game is minimizing to the Task Bar and not "opening" all of the way, then the questions are "did you install the DirectX v9.0c and Media Codecs from the game install menu?" and "which folder is your game installed in on your hard drive?":salute:

Hi K
Mostly likely a game installation corruption.
Uninstall SH5 from the Control Panels Program and Features including the saved game folder

Use a registry cleaner before re-installing your game.
How To Use The Free Registry Cleaner 'Ccleaner' > Pictorial > Includes Download Link (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2202382&postcount=70)
Do not install your game in the Program Files (x86) restricted directory.

Thanks for answering Peter.
But my game without TWoS went well...

This window glitch only with ToWS.
I’ll try to do reinstall again and clear register.
But think it will not help :(
Anyway thx

Also the game was installed on C/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 5

Hi K
This is a peculiar phenomena which I also had recently.
Never had it previously only since Uplay's recent updating.

Similar type of picture showing as you at the main menu or good main menu but pressing the E key would show all charts just a black blank.

I even tried an earlier full version and still had a problem.

I am pleased to say I eventually sorted the problem out a combination of SH5 re-installs and TWoS installs.
*I would suggest trying a new full earlier version download with the latest update would be worth trying.

What game are you running > Dvd, Download, STEAM?
What path are you using for your games installation?
It could also be a SH5.exe compatibility problem with the Patcher.
* If you still have the problem then I am sure it will be a SH5.exe patching problem with TDW and you need to try a different SH5.exe.

Hi Karakenna

When do you install TWoS, do you also accept directx and Framework?

Hi h
Direct X cannot be installed when the pop up shows in the TWoS installer with later Windows platforms like 7 and 10.
The download will automatically install Direct X 9c anyway.
