Just bought the steam copy today....been having a bit of fun but have found a serious problem:
Basically the first time i did a crash dive i was hit before by a destroyer's gun - my u-boat sank after constantly diving - i thought maybe it was just a lucky hit
Turns out not....
Next patrol i crash dive again....supposed to stop at 70m....destroyers coming in so while its doing this i drop to around 80m....for some reason my the sub keeps diving....then i notice 120 metres....bollocks....and i sink! is this a bug other people have come across?...because it effectively means i can't crash dive atm!
Do a search in the mod section for "Depth Keeping Fix" There are several mods that address this. Yes, it is a bug.

No, I also mentioned I had the CTD before applying any mods as well. I RTB after first patrol, try to go on second patrol... crash! I relaunch, try to continue and... crash. I relaunch and try to restore a save from before I event RTB'd and... crash.
I may have some more info on this. I restored a save from while still in my first patrol. i RTB and was able to go on second mission without CDT. This was odd. I sat and thought about it and the ONLY thing I did differently was, the first time, when the game became unplayable from that point forward, was I added an emblem to my conning tower.

Hello everyone... newbie here, been playing sh5 for a few days now, and really love it.

To the point... I have developed a habit of saving every 5 mins, or every time i destroy a ship/plane.. because i keep getting this annoying crash... i have tried looking for info, and several things to fix the crash before asking for help. but i have had no luck.
sometimes it happens just randomly.. but 95% of the time it happens while in a fight, usually surfaced and using the cannon while taking fire, although i think it has happened submerged aswell. when it does happen the game might freeze for up to a few seconds at a time, or just become really choppy. also the graphics *explosions* seem really odd... for instance after a explosion there will be a bright ball where it went off, making me unable to view any ships around me due to the extremely bright light. also water splashes seem to freeze mid-air.
can spend so many hours crashing/reloading trying to destroy a convoy. sometimes i get lucky and don't crash
well that explains it all, down to the actual error.

there has to be something really simple to fix this.....

I'm getting freezes requiring a shutdown via Crtl-Alt-Del when i try to take a screenshot using the Shift-F11 key combo.
I'm running only IRAI version 0.0.30 and NewUIs with TDC version 6.4.0 (default SH5 enhanced). My system is a Q9505 at 3.2ghz, GTX260, 4gb ram, Vista 32.
When I take a screeny the screen freezes with repeating engine noises and when I hit Crtl-Alt-Del the capture sequence is running but not responding. SH5 is installed to C:\Ubi, so no issues with UAC. I can use Fraps for screens, but any hints on what might be happening and a fix?
I had the MO installed (JSGME) but I got constant shutdowns of SH5, so I disabled it.

:) - yes it is normal.... next time try to take screenshots pressing ctrl+f11... and i think you better put the MO back
really lost now...
i tried turning off all the mods 1 at a time then re-loading my save and doing the battle again.... every time still same crash, got down to the 1 mod left, magnum.. if i remove that then my game-save wont event load.... i really don't want to start again, and without mods.
i spent a few hours creating a new partition on my hdd, installing windows xp in dual-boot, fully updated that installing drivers etc.
then the only thing i installed was silent hunter 5.. patched it to 1.2, added the mods... copied over my save folder
and guess what...... same thing, freezing up... this time it did not even crash, it just froze after i managed to take out a few merchants during the insane lag. had to restart the computer.
i then checked the event viewer and found that same damn error.

well i tried installing .NET framework 2.0 sp1, but cannot do that on win7... steam always tries to install it when i start the game for some reason, even though it cannot.

Picked up SH5 on STEAM the other day and I'm running into what I think are some graphics problems. I have an ATI Radeon 6970 with the latest Catalyst drivers powering 3 LCD's in Eyefinity mode.
When I start up the game it stretches the image across all 3 screens, but everything looks pixellated. I know the game doesn't support multi screen, so I try to run in windowed mode, but even if I set the game to run windowed, it's still filling up the whole screen.
Second problem is I can't even start the campaign. I start, get woken up to go talk to the captain and as soon as I 'have control' and the messages pop up about using wasd to move, etc., the graphics just hang. The game appears to still be running since I can click around on the pop ups, but can't actually move. If I do hit the movement keys, I hear the audio like I'm walking down the deck, but the graphics still stay frozen in place.
Anyone have any ideas?
I think I saw a video with some1 playing SH5 on 3 monitors, but Im not sure where. Dunno if this link (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=19223) can help, but maybe you can get at least some partial answers.
Thinking of going with "no map contact update" but am not quite ready to give up the sonar contact lines. Is it possible to turn surface contacts off while keeping the sonar contact lines on the navmap?

Don't remember. It's either that or you have to enable one of the add-on mods to remove them and keep the sonar lines.

Just had an experience in game that I'm not sure is a bug or not.
I was setting up to sink a V&W Destroyer (can't remember exact name). My solution was perfect. Two electric torpedoes that went right through the map contact. The draft of this ship was 3.5 meters so I set my torps to 1 meter depth. Do the electrics run much deeper than you set them? I can only imagine the torps went under the keel of the destroyer but I didn't confirm with external cam. Very frustrating.
Anyone know if this is a bug with that ship's "impact spheres" or did my torps likely run deep?

The torpedoes have depth/heading problems modeled in. Sounds like the depth holding problem bit you. The longer the shot the more pronounced these 'features' are.

I've decided to give this game a chance, hoping most complaints with it would've been sorted out by now.
However, whenever I want to start a campaign or historic battle, the game just crashes. It does load and I hear some sort of click from the interface, but after that the beginning of the cinematic shows and it just stops working like this:

Thank you! I did have that redist installed and apparently it keeps the game from running. I uninstalled it and now it's fine!

Got a possible bug. Not sure. I sustained DC damage in a game recently. Eventually all flooding and all damage was repaired but I still had visual flooding graphics in the engine room. Is this a bug? Shouldn't the flooding pipes stop when all damage has been repaired?

I think it take awhile to pump the water out of the boat after you've repaired it. So I wouldn't say it was a bug. Unless its been many hours after damage has been repaired.
Give it time and see if the water is pumped out.
Or try a save and reload, if you beleave flooding should be gone.

Sorry, should have specified. I meant the spraying pipes animations. These seem to go on endlessly even after the sub is completely repaired.

Damn. I was afraid of that. THere's no fix, huh? I know this was a bug in SH4 that was fixed.
I have SH5 purchased via Steam. I have installed only MO with patch for mods.
I have had intermittent CDTs until recently. Though, I have made NO changes at all of any sort.
Upon starting my second patrol, I can not go 10 minutes without crashing. Please help!

Are you running any kind of 3GB activation script? (This was a problem for me. I turned it off and it solved my CTD problem.)
Also, try the antilag mod. Go do mod section (has a yellow "NEW" bubble near it at the top of the forum), click on SH5 and then on utility mods. Look for hte antilag mod and follow directions. This helped ctds for some.

Just got SH5. What is the latest patch? There was some talk some time ago about a 1.2 patch, but the only one I can find on ubi's site is 1.1.

I will try fix this soon.... it will be in the Dynamic Environmental SH5 mod - it is a game bug... i was thinking if maybe i will put down the clouds in the night time... when we will have fog ... the game give us heavy clouds all the time... so maybe clouds will cover the moon and the stars... anyway i will try it:up:
Is it just me or does the game not use all the music files that are in the music folder? I converted some of them to mp3 to have a listen and I swear I haven't heard like 75% of them in game. A lot of good thematic music there if you take a listen.
The game seems to latch on to a few of them and play them over and over. Is this just my imagination?

Probably this is answered before but when i click on the icon on top of the screen (the reminders or something) every possible button goes white.I think its probably of the video card drivers but i have Nvidia geforce 9800 gtx with the latest drivers.Also the game is patched but I still cant figure out whats happening.

How much ram do you have? and what operating system do you use (64 or 32 bit)?

My response which you quoted was for missing textures, not CTD. I never stated that enabling the 3GB switch would prevent CTD's.

What operating system do use use? Is it 32 bit?
I can only say that I never experienced any ill effects from using the 3GB switch on XP 32bit from using this method...

Same system. Windows XP 32bit. Can't say for sure that the switch was the problem but when I deactivated it I stopped getting CTDs. I think it works on some systems and others it doesn't

I understand. All I wanted to say was that I experienced CTDs with the 3gb switch so I ended up not using it. That's all.
A word of advice. If you have 4 gb ram and a vid card with 1 gb ram then in practice your 32 bit windows has only 3 gb ram to play with because the 1 gb vid memory will reserve 1 gb ram on your 4 gb system memory for its use. So with the 3 GB allocation switch enabled someone might end up stepping on its toes and will receive ctd's or blue screens etc.
There are alternatives for increasing the available physical resource size for windows:
- Enable/increase/fix virtual memory and paging file size (control panel -> system -> advanced system settings). The page file virtual mem performs a little better on a second physical hard disk, other than the one your windows is installed on. I recommend these settings for the paging file: Min size = 6 GB, Max size = 6 GB.
- Install a 64 bit operating system. It will be able to utilize and allocate 32 GB of RAM (if your computer's motherboard supports that much as well). And the kernel is more robust with resource allocation and decreases the chance of mem related issues.
Chronic in-game CTDs are usually caused by incorrect voltage settings in the BIOS. Make sure that the RAM is getting enough juice. Look up manufacturer's specifications. If you see a voltage value for the RAM in the BIOS (e.g., 1.9 volts), see if there is an option of "auto" and try that instead. (Disclaimer: This option requires you to know what you're doing. Do not try it if you're not sure. It can kill your RAM without much effort.)
There are several other things you can try: Driver updates, hard disk/game folder defragmentation ("game booster" is a free utility from IOBit that can defrag game folders and also might help ppl with old hardware/old window installations).

The sonar guy is deaf in stock game.
TDW has given us a fix for this. You can hex edit the SH5.exe or use the patcher found at the bottom of this post. (only works for Non-steam versions)

- make a backup of your SH5.exe file
- open the SH5.exe file with a hex editor
- go to address 0x197A4A and change the byte from 75 to 74
- save the file

Is there a way to edit the campaign achievements for your saved games?
I was patrolling south of Ireland for the 'British Supplies' mission. It was mid-October, 1939, when I lucked out and detected a task force: A large screen of destroyers protecting a capital ship in the middle of the fleet. Heavy fog kept me from identifying her but I could tell she was big :)
I set up a broad firing solution, set to run deep, in the hope of missing the escort ships and hitting the capital. 2 of the 4 torps hit, and in the end I had sunk a Furious-Class carrier. Wunderbar!
Maybe you can tell where this is going. Later that week, on my way back to Wilhelmshaven, I noticed a new mission objective: 'Blockade of Germany' One of the goals? Sink 1 aircraft carrier. My kill was dead center in the new patrol area marked on the map.
I have already sunk a carrier. It's probably the exact carrier the game wanted me to sink, but I accomplished the goal a little too early so it didn't count for the new mission. Is there any way I can fix my save game so it knows that I already did that part?

True, its the same ship you need to sink in this new mission. You got a blind luck by spotting her, a lot of people were and are stressed by finding her in the middle of nowhere. Im kinda sure that this time you will also have a hard time to find her again. You could edit some files to make the mission complete, but then is no fun playing the game. You can also try to sink her in the port of Plymouth, is her starting point.
Im working on a campaign mod and Im still thinking about what to do with this mission because is based on historical facts. But I start to think that replacing the mission wit a tonnage one is the best solution. So a encounter with the carrier will be a fun moment, not a stress by searching her in the middle of nowhere for months.

Absolutely nothing changed between Episode 26 and the attempt to record Episode 27. Just no go on that particular save file, CTD every time now. Other save files do load.
Edit: Just got a tip from another Let's Player. Apparently the Silent Hunter series doesn't like it when you save when submerged. Is that true?

Yes it is. Don't ever save submerged or when near another ship. This has been a bug since SH3 :nope:

Did you have 'Save sinc enabled?' It's enabled by default. If so maybe Ubi have a save file on their server. Move your save file to another location and see if the save ubi has is downloaded at game launch.
Location of save file is...
c:\Users\Username\My Documents\SH5\data\Users
I follow these 3 simple rules with saves for silent hunter games...
Never save while submerged.
Never save within 50Km of other ships. (damaged ships loose all damage and can loose their waypoints, as damage and waypoints are not saved).
Never save within 50Km of a port. (ships can loose their waypoints and crash).

Weird, I saved the game million of times when I was 200m deep and escorts lurking over me, never had any issue loading the game except the already damaged ships that gets healed and running at full steam again.

I have a very strange problem, I have just bought the game and I installed it but when I look in the Ubisoft directory there is no Silent Hunter 5 game folder even through I installed it there...I even reinstalled to make sure.
Yet the game plays fine but I can only launch the game from the auto-run when you put the disk in so it is obviously somewhere on the comp. So I can't even create a desktop shortcut, I even searched it but nothing shows up. I have windows vista 64bit.

The game can also be launched from the start menu. You wont need the disk this way.
Click Start
click All Programs
Click Games
Click Silent Hunter 5
Did you use the default install or the custom install option, when you installed?
I beleive that the default location for install is c:\Program Files (x86)\

I have last issue to resolve and my game will run butter-smooth (I hope).
I am running;
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200@2.50Ghz 4 GB RAM 64-bit OS.
Video card is GTX550 Ti.
Now about the issue. It looks like some kind of memory during play got filled up after 8-10 or so saves and during next save (auto save or initiated by me) "Saving game" screen freezes, sound goes to loop and the only way to get out of it is Ctr + Alt +Del and task manager.
If I restart computer - I have 8-10 or maybe 12 saves to run game smooth until it would happened again. One patrol usually takes about 6-8 saves, so I just shut down computer and it is ready for another session no problem after being turned on the next day. But if I don't restart - it will crash on every save after certain amount of "smooth" saves.
Is this cash memory issue? If yes - how to empty it with out restarting PC?
And how does it happens on such a capable system?

What version of the game do you have?? Why the need to force an update?? Is it not automatic update???
I do not have the Steam version of SH5.... But I do have other games that use Steam. And they update automatic. I have never had to force an update.
The none Steam version of the game updates automatic upon launch. So I see no reason to force update here either.
yes i know, but i was going to install a mod requierd version 1.2. So I ran the updater and it told me there was an update to install and asked me if I wanted to do that, so I did and here we are...

Having been an avid fan of sh3 and shv4 (modded out of course!!!) I decided to take the plunge and try sh5 even though the reviews have not been excellent to say the least....... I have a sony vaio and although i exceed the recommended specs when I am inside the boat there is a horrible lag (doesnt happen on the bridge or external but does happen when I am docked!!!!). Is there a fix to this or am I just going to have to wait until I upgrade my laptop ( wont be happy so someone please cheers me up!!!) Computer specs are as follows.

1) Sub doesn---8217;t maintain a depth: for example, i'll hit dive to 100 and it just keep diving. Is there a fix for this?
2) No "maintain current depth" button
3) When a DC explodes near me I don't notice a sizeable shake considering I just had explosives go off near me. At one point it said I sustained damage but no shake at all.
4) Ships don't accurately sink. They don't roll over or really sink to the one side that I just put three torpedoes into.
5) The HP system for sinking ships really isn't realistic at all, is there a why to make ships sink more by flooding and how many holes I punch into it?
6) Can't stop the flak and deck guns from firing, i'd like them to stop firing to converse ammo but they seem to be too trigger happy, is there a way to stop this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Thanks!!
Should also note that i'm using a Steam Version of the game, not sure which version.
I just dont have time to give out a direct link, but all these point are addressed already by mods.. head over the Mods section and browse it, eventually you will find them.
For pt 2, make sure you are patched to 1.2
For pt 6, jut press F5 to stop the killing frenzy.

I have been having some video issues with SH5, and after reading this thread and forums have not seen any similar problems. Maybe someone can figure it out or make some suggestions. I am running an ASUS EAH6970 card with 2 gigs of ram, and the latest drivers. I have upgraded the drivers 3 or 4 times since the card's release but nothing seems to help.

Well I finally broke down and bought SH5. And from the get go it has not been a good go so far. The problem I am running into. I downloaded from ubishop While downloading bout 13% thru get a checksum error message about a router, which is odd seeing as how I don't have a router. Finished download. Tried to install. Which went thru, went to start and it downloaded 1.2 Then I get the error The application failed to initialize properly. (0xc0000142)
And this is where I am stuck. Bought it yesterday, redownloaded it same error message, same message. I did have daemon tools installed, which I have removed, not sure if this would cause a conflict or not. Is there anyway to contact ubisoft? AS there support forum is lacking lol. Thanks for any help.

Patch 2 fixes the CTD from the tga file in the environment mod (included in MO).
Patch 2 (EVERYONE needs this patch even those just downloading the mod for the first time!)

Yes I have the patch 2 installed. I installed the environment mod over patch 2 so it might be the problem. I will try install environment mod first next time. Let see what happens :)

Hi there, hate to be another one of those people who has a problem and just throws themselves at the community to solve it, but I have a problem :P
I went into external cam to watch my boat dive from a destroyer and the water wasn't the usual green but bright white. I've disabled all my mods, and the problem persists.

anyone got any advice? The problem doesn't manifest itself in any other way, except that when I left base and went into external cam I could move the camera just under the sea bed, but wasn't concerned about it at the time and pretty sure they're not related.

Hmm, hasn't had any effect. And it's definitely not my gamma settings as I never fiddle with them but tried turning it all the way down anyway as a test and it was still abnormal.

The buttons came out on the printscreen but in game the gamma setting was so low they were just black.
EDIT:
Oh and I should mention these effects only occur underwater. Above water it looks fine, but makes using a periscope almost impossible!

I have an I7 running at 4ghZ with 6 gigs of ram and an Nvidia GTX 480 and I also had some problems with game freezes and crashes until I installed 'antilag' and set FPS to 32 (as per stoianm's suggestion).
This seemed to solve the issues I was having although I still get a minor freeze on destruction of a ship for some reason, at least the game doesn't CTD any more.

The time compression can really screw you up once after a patrol of the English coast i returned back to port but i had time compression on a pretty high number as i was tired and wanted to finish the patrol however the time compression would not stop so i ended up smashing my precious VIIA U-boat up luckilly i had saved but that was back at England so i sail across the North Sea again but then i had made a course error and accidently put my course into one of the islands that surround the entrance to the port because i was zoomed out and small islands don't show up so i rammed straight into it and then after my game crashed so i finished it the next day

I just bought SH5 and I've found out that the majority of commands on the help file just don't work and show no clues as to get them to work.
Where is there a true HUD one with depth, course, and speed in one spot and with the ability to change them at will.
The manual says that the external gunners are characters to talk to and that one can get to the Flak gun and the Deck gun by picking TAB. TAB just takes me to the navigation map. I can't find any command to GET me to the gun sites.
Why can't the captain yell commands down the speaking tube or the open hatch from the bridge?
I paid a lot for this game on STEAM and I can't even find it on my computer. How can I mod the game?

follow the troubleshooting steps listed at bottom of post #1 of my UIs thread. You have a python error being thrown somewhere.

I have another strange thing. While Submerged and I lock to a target with space and after some time the target unlocks I cant lock to the Target anymore when I hit space anymore. But when I go to Surface I can lock to the target again. (This happens When the Ship is moving away at a range of about 6k meters. I dont know perhaps this is normal ?)

Still - are you sure you put both the files;
antilag.cfg and
d3d9.dll
in C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 (where your sh5.exe is)?

What happens if you disable all mods an then enable only the;
Magnum_Opus_v0_0_1 ?
1. Did you patch the Magnum_Opus_v0_0_1 to Patch 2?
2. Have you done any changes in; the Magnum_Opus_v0_0_1\data\Scripts\Menu\UserOptions.p y?
3. If you did any changes - were they done in the mod's UserOptions.py or in the patch's UserOptions.py??
4. Before or after paching?
5. If you did in the mod's (not the patch's) UserOptions.py - did you use the OptionsMigrater.exe before patching?
Then enable the;
NewUIs_TDC_6_6_0_ByTheDarkWraith
1. Have you done any changes in; theNewUIs_TDC_6_6_0_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Scripts\M enu\UserOptions.py?
2. If you did - did you use the OptionsMigrater.exe to migrate the settings in theMagnum_Opus_v0_0_1\data\Scripts\Menu\UserOption s.py to theNewUIs_TDC_6_6_0_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Scripts\M enu\UserOptions.py?
Just asking because the last enabled UserOptions.py will overwrite the previously enabled and you'll lose all the settings you did in the previous one.

Good that you can see that the Antilag works :up:
When you use the OptionsMigrater you always;
1. Disable the mod
2. Migrate the UserOptions.py
3. Enable the new one.
The OptionsMigrater is used to copy the settings you are using to either
- a new patch (before patching) for that version or
- to a completely new version of the mod.
This way you always keep your old settings in the new version.
If you should patch without using the OptionsMigrater you will lose all settings because the new UserOptions.py will overwrite the old one.
I's a good idea to always make a backup of your current UserOptions.py just in case...
Remember to read the changelog in the the new version's enclosed .txt file so you always is updated on new options that have been added to the UserOptions.py.
The options you did in the old one should be transferred to the new one if you use the OptionsMigrater and the possibly added new options are to be found further down in the file.
If you enable/disable mods shouldn't affect your hard drive so you don't have to defrag because of this.

About this bug I posted earlier. I have found out that its an out of memory problem caused by 32bit OS because it cant use all of my 4gb ram. Now with a 64bit OS I dont get this anymore.

Now when this (or some other) enemy boat gets near me, I get instant CTD every single time. And it happends immediatlely when that yellow circle reaches my u-boat.
Modules what I've been unable to disable to test if they are causing it are magnum opus and TDC newui. Rest of my mods I've tried to disable already and this thing still happens....
Pretty much unable to continue my game now. Anyone got idea what is causing this? (also check the image)

Can you send me the DbgView output? If you haven't enabled that app before launching the game you can find it at \data\Applications

Uninstalled all mods, reinstalled only Magnum opus 0.1 and the patch.
Found the cause...
Installing FX_Update_0_0_16_2_ByTheDarkWraith brings the bug back.
...and if it helps any - the ship what is causing the crash was some small french "escort ship".

C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe
This will automatically patch you to v1.2
Then try to launch SH5 again

I uninstalled one of my many "visual c++ 2008 redistributable" versions. Perhaps it was the one mentioned in my crash report (where it said: Fault Module Version: 9.0.30729.4974), I am uncertain, as I didn't think to look before I uninstalled one of them, which solved it!

Hello and sorry if below problem has already been mentioned or discussed, 75 pages of bug-reports is alot of reading...
The flipping-pages sound gets stuck once it sounds and keeps playing over and over again.
It's the background-sound inside your sub, when someone (navigator??) is flipping pages of some kind.

thanks for reply Steel....have 1.2 yes running mods..seems that was the problem i took them off and now the game runs..i was getting a freeze up at menu OK wouldnt work when it saved changes....i saw a post saying run the mods 1 at a time and see if you can catch the culprit.............ill do that...

About this bug I posted earlier. I have found out that its an out of memory problem caused by 32bit OS because it cant use all of my 4gb ram. Now with a 64bit OS I dont get this anymore.
Hello, I'm getting this too on SH5 1.2 running in Win 7 Pro 32 with all updates to date. It didn't happen before, only after a recent OS reinstall. Do you also experience a sudden exit to desktop? (no crash, just closing without warning and going back to the Ubi app). Could the later be a secondary effect of the DRM system? Though I thought they removed the constant check and my connection is pretty stable.

Hello everybody!
I installed the game yesterday, played 2-3 hours, everything running smoothly and perfectly.
When i tried to played today, the game didn't managed to started and i saw a error window with the following message:
CameraHasLens@CameraManager@@QBE_NXZ couldn't be found in the dynamic library links CameraManager.act
Seems like my "CameraManager.act" became corrupt, my computer has been contaminated with viruses and i'm experimenting lots of issues at the moment....
Can someone help me and re-upload the file, i tried reinstalling the game but it still crashes.
Help me please!

I think that first you should make sure you don't have any viruses left.
Download and run the Malwarebytes' Anti Malware;

Do a complete scan, takes time but this free software is quite competent and most viruses still remaining it will find.
What firewall and anti virus software are you running?
What does your anti virus software say after scanning?

Thank you very much for your fast reply, but my computer is no longer contaminated, i had to manually remove several trojans and bad stuff (using ccleaner), now my pc works perfectly except 2 error message when starting vista (service pack 1), without consequences.
The main problem here is that CameraManager.act file that seem corrupted without any reason, as the error message says, there seem to be something that used to work that is now missing. Could someone upload or share this file with me so i can replace my bad one and make my game work again?
It's a very little one,only 32kb,so it won't take a while to transfer it.

Just tried to get away from some Polish patrol boats and even the one that I set on fire refused to sink and followed me for 24hrs. Also every time I change the settings in the options section they reset themselves. Are there any fixes for this kind of problem? Thanks.

Your game crashes (don't know why).
The U-Play report appears every time after the game is closed (crashed or closed by user).
It's not a U-Play related error I think.
Maybe modsoup or configuration issue (game, mods or hardware).

I have also got a problem that ever since using TheDarkWraith FX mod and the Open horizon II full mod I cannot get my game options to save, and they reset to rubbish settings like lazer gun sites ect'. I even tried without FX enable then Open Horizon dissabled both new campaigns and still options reset to the same settings always.
Please help.

My game crashed. I ordered identify target, and even though it was identified as a fishing boat, the XO dialog showed pictures of battleships above it. I tried to click one of the buttons under the pictures (the one on the left, just under the picture), and the game crashed. Below is my output.

This means you didn't make an install of the JSGME in which was created a C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS folder. Right?

I think the OH II Full version might be a bit too demanding on your rig.
In the Full version harbour traffic is very demanding and I suggest you should try running the OH II Base and one or two of the add-on mods but not all three at the same time.

Try removing the shadow improvement mod

I have the same graphics card setup as you.
Just the other day I used nvidia control panel to force SLI for the SH5.exe
All worked well untill I got ctds every time I left or entered a harbour (within 30km)
I removed the SLI profile for SH5 and the issue was fixed

The game randomly crashes for no obvious reason.
Once it crashed while I was in Scapa Flow, submerged, getting ready to attack a capital ship. Other times it crashes when I activate speech recognition. Then again it crashes even though I'm not doing anything.

Well I'm using a 560Ti, so the graphic card power shouldn't be an issue, I think.:hmmm:
I have just reinstalled SH5 after updating my system to Windows7 64bit, 8GB RAM and 1GB nVidia graphics card in a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. Worked fine previously but hadn't played it much prior to the update. I'm not running any add ons. Not happy :cry:
Anybody having similar issues or got any suggestions. I held off buying this sim for a long time due to the UbiSoft internet connection requirement but finally bit the bullet, only to be disapppointed.

I used to play SH3 a few years ago with GWX and just started this week to give SH5 a try.
these are the 4 main issues I'm currently facing
First of all I encounter quite a lot CTD's. I never got the game running longer than 1 hour without having a CTD. So that is nearly unplayable.

With the Mod soup below I wasn't even able on a new career to get through the Kiel Canal withouth CTD, but this time the CTD left me at least with Debug that the crash was related to the msvcr90.dll. Steam Client was always trying to install .NET Framework 2.0 SP1. The Problem here is that I need to have both version x68 and x64 of .NET Framworks installed as these are needed for different add-om to my Development Tools.
To refuse Steam of trying to installing the .NET Framework on every game launch adding following registry entry fixed the issue
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Valve\Stea m\Apps\48110\ windowsInstaller_x64 REG_DWORD =1
but still CTD's
So another dance this time MOD by MOD game launch new career new mission will update if the CTD's were related to ne of the MODS

Game Syncronisation, even so I turned off the Sync option in the Ubi Launcher save games are syncronised with the Server. I did few fresh installs, deleting the SH5 folder from user/my documents, too. Old save games are appearing in the folder again after the first game load.
Windowed mode, the game always loads in full screen mode, even so I set the option to be windowed mode
free camera, my campain setting is relism, but external camera turned on. If I try to use the external camera either throught the TDW camera option or the normal in game option buttons I stuck to the boat and I can't use the mouse to rotate the view.

Hi all
I have a problem with the water drops and streaks on the camera. Can't find a solution or even a description of this problem anywhere so I'll post it here and hope that someone might have an idea.
What I'm encountering is that the above mentioned animation of water drops / streaks on the camera works normally for a while but then suddenly freezes. The result is that drops remain on the screen forever (or won't come up anymore) as long as I remain in realtime (1xTC). If I increase time compression to 2x or more however, the animation will start working again and the drops dis- and reappear normally. Going back to 1xTC halts the animation again and only a restart of SH5 solves the problem. I play with no mods installed except for antilag, newest graphic drivers are installed.
Any ideas what could cause this game procedure to stop after a while? Thanks

Last night, I gave antilag a try, installed antilag.cfg and d3d9.dll in C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 and set the max framerate at 35 fps.
Here is the problem; the game loads but the saved campaign does not load. The little radar symbol in the lower right hand corner just sits and spins and spins and spins. After moving the antilag files out of C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 and restarting the game, the saved campaign is able to load normally.
I have not had a chance to play around and find a fix, but maybe folks in this forum have seen this before, can come up with a fix or point me in the right direction.

You say your campaign doesn't load after applying the d3d Antilag and your setting is FPSlimit=35, right... :hmmm:
As for RenderAheadLimit - what figure do you have here?
What happens if you don't load your campaign, just start a 'Historical Mission'?

Thanks guys, the render ahead limit is set at 2 and I did not try to load a historical mission. I followed the video tutorial on reducing VGA heating, and antilag seems to be working now. The load times are longer than when antilag is not enabled, but at least, SH5 is loading, time to sink some ships and a big thanks to all those that created the mods that make SH5 a great sim.

While playing SH5 (or trying to) the frame rate and mouse cursor are slow and jumpy in game while at the main menu the mouse cursor moves normal and the background moves normal too.
Anyone got any ideas ?

Read the readme .txt file, you can't enable it through JSGME. :up:
Look at the top left of the page when in main menu to see if you have v1.2

I have not played this for a few weeks and the only thing I know that has changed is I updated my GPU drivers and updated Open Horizons to version 4 from 3 and today when i start playing I get the sub jerking along the water and my char also has jerky movement while walking along , although while on deck the sub no longer appears jerky only when in external view.
I had this issue with Silent hunter 3 when that first came out but that was due to Vertical sinc enabled in con fig file I seem to remember.
Any help please would be appreciated as to what is causing this old problem to appear now.
All other aspects of the game run just fine even in the crowded harbours.
Its just my sub in external view and me walking that is jerky.
Update.
Antilag patch solved my problem thanks for that.

Open Horizons II full 1.4 => Try the 'Base' version instead. As the 'Full' version is heavy on your CPU maybe that's why you get those CTDs.

Much obliged. I also noticed that adding the Kriegsmarine Grid Map mod caused the game to CTD within a few seconds until I took it off.
I will try the layout you suggested and see how it works. I'm only on my second patrol, so no harm done really.
EDIT: @Silent Steel, I'm running an AMD Phenom II X2 3.1 Ghz dual core with 6 gigs of RAM and a GeFore 9800 GT video card. I doubt it's my hardware causing the problems. I've also tried the Dynamic Environment mods but for some reason they were causing crashes. I uninstalled them and the crashing lessened.
EDIT 2: I have no idea how to use the migrator app. >_>

I tried that load-out with the IRAI No_Hydrophone_On_Surface_No_Aircraft_Spotting added in right after IRAI 0_0_30, and the game CTD about 3/4 through the Kiel Canal. Should I not use that?
I love this game, but trying to get a stable set of mods in it is quite the frustrating experience. There needs to be a GWX kind of thing for SH5.
EDIT: Tried it again, without that extra IRAI bit. The Kiel Harbor Pilot took me through the first harbor you pass in the canal. Actually through it. My sub went through the docks, through the land behind it, back into the canal, then crashed into the side of the canal.

The 'IRAI_0_0_30_TheDarkWraith.txt" let's us know this;
'This mod is fully compatible with my UIs mod. You have to install my UIs mod first then install IRAI and then the add-on mod for no hydrophone on surface if you want that. Say yes to all JSGME warnings.'

Hi all,
it' a long time I've got a problem, after installed MODs Mgnus Opus e UI TDC 6.5.1 the Dark Wright, I 've never been able to find the recognition manual.
obviously I did switch on the toggle chart visibility, but nothing manual it's missed!! I looked at any part of the screen in every angle, but nothing (see picture below)........:cry:
I also checked in the game directory trees (shown below), and everything seems to be ok......at least in my opinion (SOAN Directories...)
maybe some DLL or something, it's missing ?What happened?

A strange behaviour with the savegame.
I was submerged in front of a port, and i sank 2 tankers at 2 different places, i have 2 torpedo left. During this shooting fiesta i do several saves.
After that, i slowly escape the area and paf my first CTD; no worry for me, it's a modern video game :haha:.
So i came back to SH5 and reload my last save game.
I discovered that my last sunk tanker was no more counted in my hunting result, and i had always 2 torpedo left. More strange, a tanker is still floating in the port but a the same place at the first i sunk lol. It's like the last one i sunk, was no more sunk but the torpedo used were really used.
As i have a savegame just before sinking the 2nd tanker, i loaded it. My torpedo stock come back to 5 :), and the tanker is still here, but at the same place of the first one. Si finally i sank twice time the same tanker. Strange.
Perhaps i due to the fact i was submerged when i saved it, but with 5 destroyed around me :D, i could not surface to save :haha:.

Game crashed, and now every time I try to load the last save, it crashes right before loading. Even when I load a save from an hour and a half before the last one. Grr.

Have the same kind of problem with my version, Steam wants to instant framework 2. Has it not necessary on my vista 32 bits i found a "dirty" workaround.

Well I thought this is a thread with the stock game. Yes we all know there are lots of problems with it. Nonetheless I want to play with the stock game.

It's a bug. Save and reload should fix it.
There are a few bugs needing fixes fast.
Ability shortcuts stops working from time to time. Have to reload game to get them working.
Also when ordering a crewman to use ability i.e sonarman they always say "Cannot perform action" but do it anyways.
Some orders doesnt work correctly when giving commands. Man the deckgun and secure deckgun for instance. Often it just gives "Man gun" not "secure gun". This goes for other orders to.
"Deck Gun" commands really need an overlook. It's a mess.
Animations needs tweaking. Some turn their backs to you when talking. Some odd behaviour from time to time.
I went to Scapa Flow. Met task force in entrance. 2 Destroyers stuck headbanging the shore.
A boat upgrade not working correctly. Ordered Zwilling FLAK guns, started mission with standard 2cm FLAK. Upgrade not applied.
Radio and Grammaphone not working. No access.
Checked the files on DVD. It's the music and radio files from SH4... lol?
Manual states that escorts can be requested by radio within reach of a German base. How does this work?... there's no radio command for it.
Several crashes to desktop with no errors whatsoever. I suspect this to be the OSP doing connection checks.
I also have a couple of requests. Please add "Return to course" command. (I haven't found it though). And where is the depth under kiel gauge?
i also don't understand why you didn't add rudder icon for mouse like speed and depth. It's only 1 degree left/right or full left/right. Makes steering manually a biatch ;)
And last... Since SH3 one could never flood all the tubes in a chosen Salvo. And we still can't. Tried doing some changes in command.cfg but no luck so far. Setting salvo spread is also missing as far as i can see. I hope i'm not blind here:88)

I have had to ID targets .. Iam the freaking captain . Were is the dummies that are saying that theya re the crew . So whats gonna happen when my boat gets a hit will I have to damage control also?

So I accidentally completely trashed my SH5 folder.. I went to go and redownload it as I had to do earlier this year when I reinstalled XP... and I can't find anywhere to download it. Ubisoft doesn't even acknowledge that I owned it at any point in time. uPlay is uPlay and shows that I've done thing WITH silent hunter... but no dice for downloading it. This is quite flipping annoying. I saw somewhere about Ubisoft keeping downloads available for two years if you pay an extra five dollars.. which is just goddamn retarded. Besides that I'm screwed I think.
About 30 seconds from just torrenting it so I can play. Any alternatives?

I am having some issues with New UI_TDC 6_9_0. I upgraded from 6_8_0 and for some reason, the recognition manual has disappeared. Even when clicking the button that makes the charts appear, it is nowhere to be found. The only issues I have engaged in other than the mod upgrade is mucking with my screen resolution to try and get a better FPS. What do I need to do to get the recognition manual back?
Another issue is that I cannot get the other interface styles to appear. I select either SH3 or SH4 in the options.py, but I still have SH5 Enhanced? What am I doing wrong?

Delete all the Pagex_Draggables.TDW files in your \Silent Hunter 5 folder to reset draggable positions (and get SOAN back).
Are you editing the options file with the mod enabled or disabled? Are you editing the options file in the mods folder or the game folder?

I do have another issue, which I think is a core engine bug. When you tell the XO to go to battlestations, the active (red) icon appears, but no black one (to indicate compliance, as with silent running) Since I see no change in efficiency, is the Battle Stations command bugged?
EDIT: Another quick issue. On the SH3 Interface, when clicking the icons for fuel, battery, air or CO2, the Icon only remains on the selection before reverting to either fuel or battery, depending on depth. Is this a bug or is there a setting that controls this and if it is a setting, how do I change it to force my selection to remain active until I change it?

That was a new feature in v6.9.0. You can change the time setting and whether it's enabled or not via the options file editor/viewer app. It's found under the Automatics tab :up:

If you turn TDC on it acts just like the TDC in SH3. With TDC off you are in 'kiddy mode'.

EDIT: It still doesn't work quite right that way. I read that releasing the lock just before firing gives a correct solution. I also use the visual lock option in your UI mod, which is about as close to the old auto TDC as I think I am going to get.

Firstly, I gotta say, this seams to have now turned into a mods thread. If you need to list a dozen mods in your post before posing your bug/glitch I propose there's a fair chance you're in the wrong forum; See 'Silent hunter 5 mods workshop'!
Secondly, I propose there is probably not too many people prepared to read through all of this to find solutions so what is the point of continuing to have it stickied?
Given the number of new SH5 users of late (myself included), due to the scrapping of Ubi's rediculous drm, maybe we'd be better off with a stickied 'hints to new users' thread that contains links to this thread as required.
Just a thought and I don't wish to detract from some of the brilliant (and time consuming) responses contained herein; I'm just sorta saying, who's really (myself aside) going to read through all of this?

Whenever you want to tell about a possible glitch this is useless if you don't tell about your mods list or if you don't run any mods at all.

The missions do not experience submarines edited ruptured hull depth. can dive to get to the bottom, 450m and more. Does anyone know if this can be fixed? Have you found someone?, This is very important.

I once made the mistake of purchasing another Ubisoft title - Anno 1404; a rather complex city building game which comes with a Silent Hunter style manual, i.e. no instructions, the game was very much unplayable untill a found an unofficial Anno 1404 wiki :yep:. All the info was there for all to see from a simple menu and the info only had to be entered once. Real handy!

That would be great if it only was viable.
For stock it would of course be possible and should have been supplied with the game from start but...
As soon as you apply certain mods they adjust the 'C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Cfg\Commands.cfg' file for better functionality.
E.g. the various UI mods available and not only those ones.
The New UIs TDC by TheDarkWraith I think is the most advanced and developing at an amazing pace.
As most members here (AFAIK) choose to play with one of these UI mods a supermod would be the IMO best solution and I'm confident it's under way.
For those of our friends here in the forum who choose one of the other UIs maybe a mods lists proved working could be a convenient option.
I.e. for each of the UIs and why not in different sizes to suit various requests.
Check your PM for an example.
If you'd like to make your own keyboard layout this mod could be an option; JimiMadrid's Keymapper (http://jimimadrid.kilu.de/SilentHunter/SH_Keymapper&Manual.zip)

Cant find ANY ships on the sea, some planes flying about, but no ships.
Sank bunch of them in the ports, they were just sitting there not doing anything, even two destroyers.
I do get radio contacts or something from time to time, navigator whines about bearing and distance, but i think hes on mushrooms or gone mad.
And i'm sure turned life bars off before leaving port, but still saw them on the ships..(in ports). Unsure if thats related to anything.
Bought it from steam, when i run the gu.exe(updater) it tells me update found, asks if i want to install it and then "setup has detected that no verison of silent hunter is 5 installed".
But SH5.exe file version is 1.2.0.0 and steam usually deals with that stuff, idontknowanymore x.x
Maybe everything is fine and i just suck, but i loved sh4 with and without mods. Current situation doesnt feel right:)

edit: Turned realism settings off, did gadzillion laps around England and didn't see a single ship anywhere (except in ports), even with IRAI.
Found some on my first lap with all mods disabled.
Tried some random things, mod orders, disabling only some of them, reinstalling.

I am having a problem with taking screenshots. The PrtSC key apparently doesn't work. When I try the old method (Shift+F12), the message bar responds appropriately, but when I look at the file, it is stretched, distorted and otherwise unusable. I have seen a similar issue in SH4. I am having a problem with taking screenshots. The PrtSC key apparently doesn't work. When I try the old method (Shift+F12), the message bar responds appropriately, but when I look at the file, it is stretched, distorted and otherwise unusable. I have seen a similar issue in SH4. What settings do I need to adjust to be able to take clean, crisp screenshots?:06:

Ok. Same results.
I didn't find anything about "markers". Is it a known bug that markers/lines that you draw on the nav map are not saved ?

They are never saved. Don't ever remember them being saved in SH3 either.
The only markers that will persist are my supermarks, navfixes, and destroyed marks that my UIs mod provides. The only reason they persist is because I encode them into a file (if you have a journal enabled).

Some suggestions.
The following applies if you don't have an American or English keyboard. I've found this working (at least for me).
If you install an American or English keyboard layout (in Windows language settings) and then run SH5 with that layout keys work.
To toggle kbd layouts you can even set whatever hotkey(s) you like (Language settings > Advanced settings tab in Windows).
Then - to know which layout you are running you can even set it to show in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Depending on what kind of kbd you have (e.g. German/French) this can be a bit tricky as the keys you see don't all correspond to the American/English kbd layout.
(Maybe this is why I got me an American keyboard :D)

that's different...looks like something dealing with either screen resolution or your graphic card's settings

What's funny is SH4 does this as well while SHIII does not. SH4 runs perfectly and I have SH5 running to where any issues are no longer worth griping about. However, as everyone can see, I cannot take screenshots that come out at all.
