New Dec-24-2012:
Dear SH3-Community and LSH3-Players,

We will not be able to release LSH3_V6 until Christmas. Not due to the end of the world, but the comprehensive works on the GUIs, the new units and the MODs included, combined with a higher level of presence in real life we are not able to keep this date.
So it may be April bevor we can release LSH3_v6, depending on real lives work.


However we think it is the right time to tell you what will be included into LSH3_V6.

The first obvious innovation is the new installer. After a few question it will do all the file-copying and the installation of SH3-Commander and h.sie’s Patch V16B1.

The major modifications have spent on the GUIs. There will be the following versions:
- LSH3_V6-StandardGUI (4:3, integrated as basic GUI)
- LSH3_V6-OLC-GUI (4:3, as a MOD in JSGME)
- LSH3_V6-Widescreen-GUI (16:9, as a MOD in JSGME)
- LSH3_V6-OLC-GUI (16:9, as a MOD in JSGME)
Furthermore, after release of LSH3_V6, there will be the basic GUI available adapted for LSH3_V5.1 in LSH3_V6-Style (4:3 und 16:9) for older hardware which might not be able to run LSH3_V6.


A few words concerning the hardware requirements.
While LSH3_V5.1 used a little more than 1,7GB RAM, LSH3_V6 is crossing the die 2GB-boundary and will need 2,5GB in RAM.
This will lead to a hardly playable game on x86-PCs with 4GB RAM unless the machine is not properly cleaned up (less tasks as possible). Therefore x64-systems with 6GB RAM or will be the reference!



So what will be included into LSH3_V6?!!

Among the first places of the survey there were the „Interior-MODs“ for Typ II by Mchalo and Typ VII by Flakmonkey/DivingDuck, enhanced by Wurmonkel with the SH5-Interiors. Both are available as additional MODs!


Additionally integrated, as a result of the survey are Testpilot’s MODs „New U-Boot Guns 1.2“, „Leitz Fernglas“, „Subfones“, „BMW R75“ and his reworked airplanes published at Marinesims.

Also TheDarkWraith’s „Ejecting_Pilot(s)_v2_0_SH3” is integrated, and a collection of diverse U-Boot-Skins are available as MODs.

LSH3_V6 will be fully prepared for h.sie’s Patch V16B1. The necessary changes to en_menu.txt and into the Campaign-file are done, the sh3.exe will be already patched in a MOD – you will just have to start the OptionSelector, choose your settings and activate the MOD.

The number of ships was increased to more than 300 units and will rise, when the new British destroyers made by der_Frosch are added.

The aircraft-branch was increased to a little more than 80 flying units!

Even new AI-U-Boats like the Porpoise-, Tambor-, Undine- and Sen-Toku-Class are now present in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea or Indic Ocean.

Some of the new units are present in Campaign, just to make sure you can meet them in the game.

In the relevant U-Boat-Bases the Escort Vessel will be present to give you a save escort back into the harbour when returning from sea.

The bases have been completely reorganised – the first flotilla in the list now is the “Erprobungsstelle”, from there on they are sorted by their flotilla number.
For the 12th flotilla there are 2 transfers in the career to reproduce the transport of raw materials to and from Penang.

Now the Black Sea will be available as a flotilla for the friends of the type II-U-boats. The captain will be able to “experience” the retreat at the „Ostfront“.

The old map-colours are back. We decided to go back to the old colours of stock SH3.

After several months of hard work, Veers2007 made it possible that now the winter makes its appearance in (L)SH3. Extensive editing had to be done to the objects mostly in harbor_kit.dat and the connected TGA-files to make this hibernal atmosphere available.

After the download unzip this MOD to your LSH3V5.1-installation-folder (e.g.: C:\MyGames\UbisoftLiving\LivingSilentHunterIII_V5. 1\MODS). After this verify that there is not a second folder named _LSH3_V5.1_Frozen-Harbors in the main one – the folders “data” and “documentation” should be visible.
When activating this MOD via JSGME-MOD Enabler we advise to do this as the last MOD to make deactivation easier if the hibernal season is over.

Hello friends of LSH3,

after the Football World Cup and the summer holidays, LSH3 V5.1 will be released soon.
We intend to release this Update until the end of September.
















What will be included:

Changes were made to the terrain by Ottibald. He added and improved the airport at Kiel-Holtenau.
The coloured map, made by IFRT-WHUFC is included in LSH3V5.1.
The WoodenLifeboats from IABL are integrated.
The third search pattern used from the NA-Station is now available to plot the course out of the harbour of Kaseburg. Coming home you may end your journey using the SH3 function. Swinemünde has therefore become a neutral base in this time.
Bertl01 has researched new crash depths for the U-Boats.
Minor changes for the campaign files.
9 new ships, 8 made taken from IABL plus the MS Steuben, made by SOM GROUP, converted by MOLKE 2005.
Matz1962 has added a new siren for the Ju87 which sounds much better than the older one.
Furthermore he changed the Ju88 from a level bomber to a dive bomber and added a new sound.
The LeighLights were moved to a new position, out of the aerofoil to a position below the wing. Of course this was not correct for the Wellington and the Liberator, but it looks much better than a light shining out of the body of the plane.


New MODS in LSH3V5.1

LSH3_V5.1_ATM_Blau, LSH3_V5.1_ATM_Gruen
Matz1962 made a new atmosphere mod out of the basic work of OneLifeCrisis, Reece and Makman94. This one is available in two versions _LSH3_V5.1_ATM_Blau and _LSH3_V5.1_ATM_Gruen. As an amendment he added two sun-fix-mod***8217;s which can be activated after the corresponding main mod. The fixes are necessary if the sun appears in free camera (F12) as a flat disc.
The brightness below the surface was considerably improved and now allows the very best screenshots in deep waters.
Additionally new cloud formations were generated and the funnel smoke was improved.

As an Update for LSH3V5 to LSH3V5.1 for those who already use LSH3V5.
As a new full version LSH3V5.1 for those who download LSH3 for the first time.


What will not be included within LSH3V5.1

Flakmonkeys Interiors
Due to the availability of this MOD currently only for Type VII we decided not to use it.
If it will be available for the type IX in the foreseeable future we will of course use this MOD, because then the mostly used U-Boat types will be available.
OpenHatch by DivingDuck
Generally speaking this MOD will do fine with LSH3V5.1, but there are faults in the details. Because the corrections of these faults will lead to other problems we skipped this MOD for LSH3V5.1.

This MOD first offers the very nice newly animated flags. But they are not correctly fixed to the flagstaff.
Beside this, the pennants, showing the ships sunk on the last patrol, will only be visible within less than 400m from your start position. To see the correct pennants, the player will have to exit the game, edit a U-Boat config file and then start the game again to see his pennants raised. This seemed to us to be a too complicated way for the player.
Furthermore this MOD takes an unwished influence on the radar controls.

Dear Silent Hunter III Friends!

After nine month of intensive time of production, we are pleased to present the new LivingSilentHunter III V5 to the SH3-Player community.

Within LSH3 V5 are integrated:
- LSH3 V5 MainMOD
- Eleven LSH3 V5 AdditionalMODs
- Eight LSH3 V5 AdditionalMODs-Variants
- Six SH3-Tools.
This in-a-box-solution makes the game even more ***8220;Living***8221;.

The changes in LSH3 V5 in few words:
As a part of the new features of LSH3 V5 amongst others, the six new warships and six new merchant ships may be counted.
For the U-Boats it is now possible to see the torpedoes in the opened torpedo tubes. The U-Boat-Types, which in the course of time may be equipped with a snorkel, now can fly a flag at their flagstaff on the ***8220;Wintergarten***8221;.
To the world of SH3 comprehensive additions were made in Germany.
The ***8220;Jadebusen***8221; (Wilhelmshaven) with the new harbour ***8220;Wilhelmshaven***8221;, a Terrain-Update for ***8220;Swinemünde***8221;, the new harbour of ***8220;Kaseburg***8221; and due to a navigable ***8220;Kaiserfahrt***8221; even the new harbour at ***8220;Stettin***8221;.
Alongside the ***8220;Kaiser-Wilhelm-Kanal***8221; (with AutoPlotCourse) new bridges were built up, realistically operating sluices and further objects (e.g. Area Holtenau, near Kiel) are now available.
Moreover the harbour of Lerwick (Shetlands) was newly built; Salamis in the Mediterranean Sea is now available as a base for the U-Boats and St. Nazaire too received sluice-gates.

I can't manually set the TDC, i.e., speed of target, AOB, etc. The dials pop up, but, I can't manually set them. Anyone else encountering this? Any help would be appreciated.

Where can I get 'technical' info on this mod, such as explanations for mod inclusions, sensor data resoning etc....stuff like that ?

I wouldn't want to blindly spend an age downloading and building a new install if thats okay.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had some graphics problems again, this is a screenshot of the screen that is supposed to be there when you hit the ESC key to exit out of a patrol. Here is a screenshot of the mods that I'm running. I'm still having the TDC problems, I can't adjust the dials using manual targeting. concerning your graphic issues: did you try SH3 without any activated MOD? Do you have the same problems then too?

Just talked to our GUI-Expert, Bertl01, he will have a look after your problems with manual targeting.

Just a cosmetic change in your MOD-list: please activate the dark recon manual after the OLC-GUI. If not there will be a bright "halo" around the darkened ships.

I didn't run the game before I loaded the LSH3 mod. If I disable all the mods will that take me back to the vanilla SH3? If I can do that, I'll try running the game without any mods installed and see if I have the same issues. I was running GWX 3, the exact same graphic problems were experienced with that also, but they happened far more frequently. I'm thinking it might be an issue with my graphic card setup. I'll keep you posted on that.

I'll take the advice on changing the mods around. Thanks so much for the input. The mod is a piece of art for sure. If I can figure out the graphics issues I'm sure I'll be playing this for years to come.

I saw this bug fixed in other supermods, so it can be fixed.

Q: When I go to external camera to look for good screenies, it starts bouncing up and down. One second I'm 100 ft in the air, then 3 seconds later I'm 20 ft under water. Also at times it is tilted about 45 degrees left or right. What's going on?

A - The most common cause for this is when you move the external camera from target to target using the ',' and '.' keys. If you jump to a land-based target (usually a coastal gun emplacement), then it messes up the camera view and the camera movement controls.

No, that is not an incorrect installation, this is normal and this can not be changed / fixed unfortunately!

This has to do with the bunkers and coastal gun emplacement which are defined as land units, so that they appear on the Navimap.This could only be changed by the bunkers and coastal gun emplacement no longer be defined as land units. But it has the disadvantage, if one wants to sneak into an enemy harbor, you can see on the Navimap not know where the bunkers and coastal gun emplacement are. In addition, it would be a huge effort to change the whole units.

i know, this problem can be solved by re-classifying the the LandUnits "Bunker" to "Environmental".

Hi guys,

I'm experiencing the same problems as rugby6 (his post is on page 1 of this thread).

I did a re-install of SH3 and LSHV5 following the step-by-step instructions but I cannot manually change the TDC controls - either on the TDC screen or the pop-up at the bottom of the attack periscope screen. I also cannot click on the bottom icons for radio messages, briefings or the observation scope. Also, the TDC/Course finder cannot be moved either - (the one activated by the small button on the pop-up TDC console).

I've tried various combinations of mods but the result is always the same. Very strange. :hmmm: Below is my current MODS list.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello All,

Is anyone experiencing any graphics problems with the mod? I ran it today and I was scrolling on the map (F5) and my display suddenly went black. I could hear sound in background but no picture at all. I couldn't even get the task manager to come up. I eventually had to turn the computer completely off and reboot. I sure would like some advice. Eagerly waiting for some help. Thanks.

I didn't run the game before I loaded the LSH3 mod. If I disable all the mods will that take me back to the vanilla SH3? If I can do that, I'll try running the game without any mods installed and see if I have the same issues. I was running GWX 3, the exact same graphic problems were experienced with that also, but they happened far more frequently. I'm thinking it might be an issue with my graphic card setup. I'll keep you posted on that.

I'll take the advice on changing the mods around. Thanks so much for the input. The mod is a piece of art for sure. If I can figure out the graphics issues I'm sure I'll be playing this for years to come.

we did have CTD with developement-versions of LSH3V5 when zooming in and out of F5 with Win Vista and Win7.
These problems have been fixed and did not happen with Windows XP.

In fact you are the first reporting this problem.

You might try the "4GB-Patch" delivered with LSH3 V5 but read carefully and remember to modify your boot.ini.

Another choise might be the use of "GameBooster" http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
because the number of tasks running in the background of your system may also take an influence on the amount of free memory.

If all this does not work, the only chance i see will be a new clean install of SH3 and LSH3 V5.

Thanks for your help. I downloaded gamebooster and did a complete reinstall of SH3 and LSH3. I adjusted the RAM in my computer, giving me 3 Gig. I'm still experiencing crashes and the black screen.

a screenshot would have been helpful!

Did you check, if the automatic targeting is turned off?

Rightclick your Weapon Officer, click the mouse and move the view a little higher. If the lamp is red switch to green (or vice versa) and try again.

If it still does not work, switch to the Officer again and try to change the dials from his view.

Please report.

Hi blueduck,sorry it was late when I typed that and I realised after that I should have included more details,my apologies :oops:
Anyhow I followed your advice and rightclicked the weapons officer and sure enough the lamp was red (I had manual targetting selected in the realism options),clicked the button,the lamp turned green and problem solved,can now move the arrows on the tdc dials....result :woot:

please go to http://www.lsh3.com/v5/download_en.html and download the "LSH3 V5 Installation manual". Have a look at page 3 "System requirements". There you will find our advise for a optimal and a minimum system.

If your system complies with one of the profiles then give it a try.

I never played NYGM and my GWX-times are over since more than a year.
So i can not give you an advise concerning loading times.

The sensors are not as challenging as in GWX but they increase in difficulty starting from 39 to 45.

A "Longer repair times MOD" is not included. Maybe another MOD can be used if he does not change files necessary for LSH3 V5.

Has anyone else tried this mod in multiplayer?

A few of us tried last night and had many crashes, sometimes a map would work and then the next time it would not. It was all very difficult to see what was causing the crashes.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Hello Ridley,

YES WE DID! Activate "LSH3_V5__Single-Multi-Player-Missionen" and try the 22 missions. They are ALL tested by the team in several online sessions.

Crashes in MultiPlayer can happen sometimes very often.
If you experience chrashes with the same mission every time it might be due to changes in the roster or with the ships.
If you don't mind, send me the mission per mail and I'll have a look at it.

Everything works very well with the HiRes OFF fix, but not the HiRes On fix.

No need to diagnose, just curious as to whether anyone else has had similar problems with the HiRes ON fix ?

let me guess your OS is Windows XP?!

During the tests within the team we also used DX9HiResFix in the actual file-configuration without any problems.

Due to your post and reports in other forums we will upload a changed version of the DX9HiResFix.

I'll be back here when our webmaster is done.

YES, it should work.
Team-Member Bauer_U13 uses Windows7 x64 and the fix workes fine.

I've never played SH3 in Window-Mode. Maybe the fix only works in fullscreen-mode.

Did you take screenshots and check their resolution?
Are they still 1024*768?

Could you tell me is the AI changed at all over standard SH3?

I am used to playing GWX 3 and all the MP/SP maps I have tried so far have seemed very easy, and the DD's very dumb. Maybe I was just lucky (or Iam good, I wish!)

Gateway model No.: MS2252 (P-7805U)
CPU: Intel Centrino2 P8400 at 2.27Gh, 2.28Gh(Core Duo)
4Gb DD3 RAM
Windows7 (via upgrade from Vista) 64 Bit Home Premium
Video card: nVidia GeForce 9800m GTS with 1Gb Ram
Driver: driver 182.xxxm at 1440x900 resolution (I plan on installing the new 195 driver later)
nHancer2.5.7 for 64 bit system

Every time I install the resolution fix, I get the 1024x800 resolution and my frame rate crashes.

Thanks for your help. I would really like to up the resolution especially since I have a 48inch Samsung HDTV monitor available, and my video card supports it.

In about a dozen MP matches so far no one has benn detected on the way in, even when in and sinking ships the DD`s just keep going, do not turn around etc.

Only by extreme provocation do they seem to alter their course (I surfaced in the middle of a 44 convoy) I sank 2 BS and 2 Carriers plus merchants with LTD torps and still no interest, until I surfaced, very strange.

What are we doing wrong?

For those who have asked about the increasing AI's anti-submarine tactics, I also thought about that when I first tried LSH3v5. However, I hope the following is a good example of what to expect.

I began a career in October 1940 so I could sail from the French coast. The first place I had to patrol was south-west of Portugal. I found a convoy and shadowed until night-time. I then slipped in behind the escorts and sank 3 ships initially before returning to the convoy about 3-hours later sinking 2 more. The escorts didn't do a great deal.

I re-armed from one of the German freighters and returned to the same location. Over the course of 4 patrols I had attacked 3 further convoys and numerous single merchants totalling 158,000 tons since starting the career.

I was beginning to think the sensors or DD tactics were weak. Boy, was I wrong! :DL On the next trip a large west-bound convoy was reported. It had at least 5 escorts and consisted of large tankers and freighters - a perfect target. As with previous convoys I waited until around midnight before approaching very slowly at decks awash (7m) to allow surface attacks. I hit 2 tankers and crash-dived and set a course about 120 degrees from where I had attacked. Minutes later I was being pinged! Using the freecam I soon saw a destroyer was holding positions close to me, and another 2 were circling with depth charges.

I tried to out-manouvre them over a 2-hour period but they were getting closer and closer with their depth-charges! At one point I thought I had found an escape route, but they soon relocated me. Eventually I began to sink, damage was critical throughout the u-boat and blowing ballast wasn't enough to prevent my destruction! :o

The tactical changes from 1940 to mid-1941 were obvious to see! They knew where to look and the attack was intense!

So, hats off to you guys for making a first-class mod! :salute:

Anyone who is unsure about trying it, do so, I strongly recommend LSH3v5!! :yeah:

Dear Irish1958,

the DX9HiResFix does not support any resolution higher than 1280*1024, becuase SH3 does n't. So the max parameters you might adjust in d3d9.cfg are resX=1280, resY=1024.

I find it historically correct to see them. I understand for a lot of the you it's not possible to display them but as an Englishman we see them all the time on TV etc., so it isn't an issue here.

use your Windows Explorer and navigate to your LSH3V5-folder and the subfolder "data\Textures\TNormal\tex" and the same in "data\Textures\TLowRes\tex".

Rename or delete the "German.tga" and "German_m.tga".

- yes the campaign is enlarged concerning SH3. Especially improved the Med. by 4 new missions in LSH3V5.
- What do you mean by "some solution for the weather?"
- no gramophone included - you might use your own songs. ;)

Hi!! I have been playing new version for a week. I did't have any problem but I couldn't see any ship to sink. I started my patrol from 1 march in 1941 to 4 april 1941 and I loaded all lsh3 mods..

The rear side of the attack disc is not available in LSH3V5 GUI OLC. If you need it search for U-Jagd tools mod by joegrundman. But you will have to attach it manually!

To get out of the harbour order your LI "6kn ahaed" and let your navigation officer set a course. :DL
There is no feature for "automatic ship out"!

Yes you can, if they do not collide with necessary files for LSH3V5; see appendix H in the "LSH3_V5_Minimanual_EN.pdf"

In approximately two weeks there will be a special version of ManosEvironmentPro for LSH3 V5 available.

You should be able to use the same functions as used in standard OLC GUI therefore we didn't do a own manual. If you send me an e-mail I could send you an OLC Quick Reference.

Please see appendix H in the "LSH3_V5_Minimanual_EN.pdf" for informations about the files which MUST NOT be changed by other MODs.
Then give it a try! JSGME will be your friend!

That's a good question well I have played both versions using Vista and Windows 7
so the essential differences I have found is.
LSH3 works on both version of the operating systems I have used although some people have had problems for whatever reason. WAC did not and CTD on load up and also when playing the game.
LSH3 has lots of new units added which I didn't see in WAC and when sinking warships renown is given which is not always the case playing WAC.
All the bases I have been assigned to have different layout then in Stock/GWX although the 2nd flotilla has the same start base in both WAC and LSH3.
LSH3 runs smoother on my machine with lest strain put on the system then playing WAC (for whatever reason).
I have had no CTD playing LSH3 when attacking convoys while submerged unlike with WAC.
There are no heavy armed enemy convoys or strike forces roaming around close to German bases in 1939-1940 as there are in WAC.
So for me LSH3 is the version I play I don't really know about the two Mods being identical as far as the campaign files go because WAC never seemed to work right for me.
So I suppose the main difference for me is that LSH3 works on my machine and WAC don't. :salute:

It really is quite impossible to distinguish between mods if there is no suitable documentation. NYGM excelled at this, reasoning every change and addition, GWX did something similar. But I am at a complete loss to explain what is good about WAC or LSH3 to people without similar documentation.

A simple bullet-point list would do...

All problems solved. Have now a few patrols behind me. Am June 1940 close to Rockall Banks and just jumped a juicy convoy with 2 large tankers...
Thks again for this great mod, I love it and run it on a multi install alongside my beloved NYGM 3.3b, with its own SH3 Commander. Am working with XP and in some places like Kiel framerate drops to 25/30 fps (Core Duo E8500 + ATI HD4870) so I suppose with Vista you better have a good rig... Otherwise I have a steady 60 fps with vertical synch, AA and AF x4 set on Catalyst.

As you've been around a while and like NYGM then i'd be very interested in what you think of LSH3 from a campaign perspective. I'm trying to understand why this mod was created, what type of player is it intended for (realistic, shoot-em-up, multiplayer, missions) and somehow get a handle on whether it is any good or not.

I know you mention its a great mod....but WHY is it a great mod ? What distinguishes it from NYGM, or GWX or WAC etc.

NYGM - focuses on reality things like buoyancy, manual targeting, not much improved graphics etc. without rising the system specs much.

LSH - improved campaign, better graphics, more units - more system demanding than NYGM

WAC - most detailed historical campaign, heavy improved graphics, more units, much more system demanding

the campaign in LSH3 V5 is mostly driven by random events.

Some of the missions, where the U-Boats are employed, are scripted in the campaign (Weserübung, ...).

Theatres, where the U-Boats have not been present (D-Day, ...) are not scripted.

AI-equipment and -knowhow is increasing from 1939 to 1945.


And Yes! The flags are correct!

as is known, the HiResFix deactivates the function-keys F9 to F11.

Now I've hit on the fact, that these stations kann be accessed in combination with the ALT-key:
ALT-F9: Radio room
ALT-F10: Deckgun
ALT-F11: Flak (repeatedly, to switch between the several guns)

Sorry was away for a few days, couldn't reply right on... I just stick to what Han Solo said. Very alive environment in redesigned harbours, functionning locks like in the Kiel Kanal, nice new ships, the good idea of going throught a training place to handle a new sub (Erprobungsstelle). I am just starting the campaign (am around June 1940) so I only have 5 or 6 patrols (including the training ones) but found lots of targets in the usual places. Also useful the binos zooming to x10.
For demand on system, it runs 60 fps except in high environment harbours 1680x1050 where NYGM runs around 145 fps....

Now I had the chance to try the mod on a convoy. Unfortunately, the crew was blind in the fog: when I entered the bridge, the boat was surrounded by clearly visible ships. However, the next thing was impressive: A destroyer rushed in, hit the boat with its bow and the sub was almost immediately lost due to the collision. Very nice!

I've got two questions about the special OLC GUI for this mod, since I'm used to the no-zoom-version in GWX:

So when zoomed in, I line up the counted horizontal marks with 90, when zoomed with the sratch further to the right?

So in this version I need to read the distance from the doubled mast values, right? But Are the values in the recognition book already doubled or not? If it says 20.1 m (x2), does that mean to read the distance at 20.1 and that this is already the doubled value, or does it mean to read the distance at 40.2?

Runs perfect WHEN started. Trouble is like LSH3 v4 this mod takes forever to load on my pc - 14 minutes just to load a single mission is ridiculous. Gets to the 100% in about 30 seconds then will sit there loading for the next 12-15 minutes.

I had the same problem with v4 too. Zonealarm is in gamemode, no antivirus software installed. PC is more than capable to run this mod. Anyone else have the long load time problem.

Other than that the game runs fine * looks great

Thanks for replying mate. I've played with both and my conclusion is i'm gonna stay with WAC because it has more of the war scripted in its campaign. That said, I really do like the harbours and locks in LSH3, they seem "fuller" and those signal flags etc are just brilliant.

I do hope that they can be incorporated into WAC at some stage. Also I would love it if the Kiel OUT/IN auto-plots could be fixed in WAC.

I should probably post this in the WaC thread but I think HanSolo needs a rest :03:

The campaign files contain a lot more of traffic than Standard SH3.

If you just want to play single missions use the _LSH3_V5__SingleMultiplayer-Missionen. This MOD comes with 20 Missions and has empty campaign files. Will load much quicker.

Im the same my internet aint speedy if i use a browser to download when i tried it states 2hrs for download to complete. So I loaded Internet download manager (can grab the trial version gives you full access for 30days) Download & install, then in the LSH3 site right click on the link and copy. Open up IDM and choose 'New Download' option and paste link in, IDM will proceed to dl. Had no problems took 20-35min for each dl to finish.

Also GE Tug Boat#6 ( Kiel ) doesnt delete on last waypoint or loop back to any previous so that runs adrift too
Same for Kiel Merchant 1939
And Wilhelm GE Small Tanker#3
And Caribou Small Merchant#1

And BR Trawler#6 off Porland - that one has its last waypoint set to do not loop so off it goes around the map

With the editor playing slowish you can see the ones which run off

to remove the direction indicator just activate "_LSH3_V5__ExtendedChallenge" but have a look into the manual for the other changes of this MOD.

Maybe you give the "All contacts Grey"-MOD a try.
But I worry if all the the ships of LSH3V5 are included. Or maybe the ship is shown in the correct colour if you zoom to close.

I even installed Anvart's SH4 flags mod (lsh3 version), which also by the look of it has the flag with swastika. But somehow in the game it won't show like this, is it some kind of option somewhere else?

Take a look into your data/Texture/TNormal/tex. There you will find the reason of your issue. Just delete or rename this both german flag-tga`s and you are fine.

today we have released the first Environment-MOD for Living Silent Hunter III: LSH3_V5_ENV_MEP

It adds more details to the water, changes the movement and appearance of the waves and brings other brighter colours to the sky and the sea. Furthermore the horizon line is beautified and the behaviour of ships appearing at the horizon. The ships do no longer “fly” in the haze. The sun and the moon are reduced in size. The nights are a little brighter compared to LSH3 V5 – the ships can be detected easier.

Every time I load my career, no matter where I set the patrol area in SH3Commander, I begin in the Gulf of Guinea. Any ideas?

I am a newcomer to SH3 and am having problems with the LSH V5 mod working, I have read the instruction PDF and reinstalled SH# several time but the mod will not load..
I have am running windows 7, SH3 v1.4, I am running the LSH_v5 mod in the Generic Mod Enabler which is in German but to no avail I do not get the startup screen. Another note is when I try to activate any of the other mods I get what appears to be a popup that is all in german asking me at the bottom yes or nein.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I did not post this in the correct forum.

Hello sdnative,

first I'd like to advise you NOT to install the game into the "Program Files". This folder is especially protected by the UAC.
Maybe you chose "C:\Ubisoft\LivingSH3" or something else.

To make the JSGME "speak English" just rename or delete the "JSGME.lng".

Hello nik112,

the doors belong to a lock (sluice, watergate).

So the first one opens, you drive your U-boat into the lock and stop it. Wait until the outer doors open, then accelerate to leave the lock.

But be careful with the speed: the locks of St. Nazaire are the shortest in the game.

Hello nik112,

For your first question check the "realism settings" before starting career or mission. Increase torpedo room to full number of crewmen, maybe add an officer with "torpedo qualification" and/or promote the crew in the torpedo rooms.

Concerning compatible MODs check appendix H of the "LSH3_V5_Minimanual_EN.pdf" for files which MUST NOT be changed by other MODs. Check the warning dialog of JSGME.
LSH3 should be compatible with most of the MODs created for Standard SH3.

I can't get the new environment mod, based on MEP, to work with LSH3. I also have this problem getting it to work with WAC. I did a complete reinstalll for both WAC and LSH3 but to no avail.

I have only 2GB RAM but a fast Dual Core with SLI cards....could it be a RAM issue ?

I tested it with just LSH3v5,,,,,same result with just WAC4.1 too. No extra mods. I tried various nHancer changes too by no luck. I'm suspecting its the ResFix so thats my next test.

I also ordered an extra 2GB RAM just to make sure.

I had a problem using MEP also I found the Scene DAT file was causing the problems
for me so I produced a blue and green water 10km versions to limit any problems
for my game maybe if you give them a try and they work for you then you will know
if it is the MEP mod itself. :06:

Thanks SeaWolf but I think i've solved it.

I uninstalled/reinstalled SH3 patched to 1.4b (thats all I seem to do these days, bloody installs!), then removed the silly StarForce thingy, then downloaded an older ResFix (not the LSH3 one), then activated MEPv3 with absolutely no other mods....and that worked!

Now i'm going to try it with WAC 4.1 and then LSH3v5

What I would like to do is use LSH3v5 with WAC4.1 campaign and SubPens. I really dont see the case for seperate WAC and LSH3 mods....maybe i'm missing something:hmmm:

Just wanted to point out that I'm using normal nights, and in the mornings (haven't checked evenings) when the sun hasn't come up yet but it is starting to get lighter, if you look underwater it appears to be considerably lighter than it is above the waves, especially when there are clouds and such. Just wanted to throw that out there so maybe some day it could be fixed. LSH rocks! :rock:

can you post us the time, date and position where you have this issue? I have test it before a few minutes, in bismarck sigle mission, and didn`t have this. But i see something like that you say a few weeks before. But in lsh or olc original you have in some moment issues that cames nearly to this you said.

The date and time will be good, to reproduce it!

Skipped trying download the full file, didnt work. so i got all the other files instead, but the game would just crash if i tried to start it with LSH enabled.

The visibility of the marker, depending on the depth, can be found in the file of each U-boat (zb.im folder data/submarine/NSS_Uboat7b.cam ") with the S3Editor Setting:

1.) file with S3Editor Open
2.) 6: Open UnitMark
3.) 7: Mark UnitMark
4.) Depth = -10.0 <value adjust>
5.) to save.

To No. 2 I´ve no answer !

if you did not place them with new courses and/or added them to the existing convoys, they may only randomly appear in random convoys.

I'll give this MOD a try within LSH3V5 these days and tell you if there might be other problems.

Installed this mod today and so far i like it. What i do not like is sinking mechanics,but this is my personal issue because SM is always not good for me...
Sh3/4/GWX/TMO/WAC/FOTRS and so, no matter, always something wrong is with that. ;)

LSH3 is a SuperMOD just like GWX, WAC ...
Because GWX does not have the option to be completely removed from SH3 by JSGME, you will NOT be able to install LSH3V5 into your actual SH3-folder.

You will have to start with a new clean installation of SH3 plus Patch 1.4b. Maybe you use the tool "MultiSH3" to prepare a second installation and to use a separate SH3 folder in your own documents.

BBW's words do not clearly express, that he has installed LSH3V5 and GWX within ONE SH3 folder.

In fact you will be able to install LSH3V5 into the GWX-SH3-folder and activate it by JSGME.
But i am sure, that it will not work, because e.g. the main.cfg in your personal folder will NOT be changed by JSGME. And the versions of LSH3V5 and GWX are different - the game will crash!

The safest way is, to use a new SH3-Installation!

Sighting of another U-boat

I have continued to play this marvellous Supermod SH3 Add-on through out the mayhem of the impending release of SH5.
And I must say that I am still finding things that make you stand up and take notice of the outstanding quality of the added game play that this mod adds to SH3.
To give you an example of this today I was up early and had nothing to do so I decided to play SH3 for an hour I docked last night at the MarineHilfsschiff "Gelting" ( I think that is what it is called) so I set course to square BF18 and what do you know straight into the path of a convoy which I attacked as I always do engaging the warships first to clear the way to the merchant ship as it is still early war I can use the deck gun on them.
I had taken position behind the convoy to attack the second to last warship contact which happened to be a corvette so it had to be a surface skimmer to hit it which I did I started the attack using the Deck gun on the merchants as the last Warship was running parallel to the convoy but not closing so I assumed it must be another U-Boat shadowing the convoy as in the GXW Mod.
Once I had sunk the last of the convoy I decided to go and say hello to my fellow U-boat captain so I set course towards the contact but I had no visible contact with the sound contact so I closed within 500 metres and went to periscope depth and at about 50 meters there it was a VIIB at periscope depth I have not come across another sub below the surface before so this was a really nice thing to see and I watch her disappear into the murky gloom of the green water of the Atlantic.

use your Windows Explorer and navigate to your LSH3V5-folder and the subfolder "data\Textures\TNormal\tex" and the same in "data\Textures\TLowRes\tex".

Rename or delete the "German.tga" and "German_m.tga".

I just DL and initiated testing this super mod. So far, I think it's great. I've found some minor issues that I would like to solve/change. First, German ships does not show the swastika. I went through this forum & found this post. I'm sorry but I don't see those German*****.tga files in the above-mentioned folders. What I'm doing wrong?

I want to report a weird artifact when playing LSH3_V5 (no other mod activated). In every mission that I've played so far, at one time or another ships are emitting double smoke columns (not multiple-stacked ships). One of these looks normal but the other is a very dense smoke colum that runs almost parallel to the water surface.
It was observed in every view screen (periscope, UZO, external, bridge) and when the camera is heading toward that artifact the FPS drops dramatically. Sometimes the artifact is seen even where there are not ships, like a cloud floating above the water..
English is not mother language so, it is difficult to me to express what I saw in clear English . I have taken a photo which you can see below:

I will try to get more pics of this unusual effect to further illustrate it here.
Does anyone know how to avoid this?

that's not an atrifact, that's a feature. Realy! Some ships are able to hide the ships they are escorting behind a "wall of smoke". This apears when "enemy is sighted".

Your scrennshot shows the "rest" of such a wall. It takes some until it disappers completely.

it seems to me your screenshots show the unpacked LSH3V5-contents.
The files you are looking for are already part of SH3.

So please navigate to your SH3 game folder and then the given path.
There you will find the files.

NO, there will be no torrent available by the team for LSH3V5.
As far as possible we want to keep control over the DL-files.

In most cases DL interrupts a few minutes after every full hour. If you start your DL, let's say 4 or 5 minutes after the full hour, the DL should work fine.

so, i blame these to the 16KM feature. in GWX, it contains 2 sub mods for switching visual range and harbor traffic, very useful for low end machine. are LSH3 team interesting in providing such mods?

or, i have SILENT 3DITOR for reading scene.dat, maybe u could teach me whitch value i should edit. i have tried to compare to GWX files all9long, but have no idea.

maybe you could tell us a bit more about your system (hardware specs, OS). How long is the loading time? Which base did you start from?

If you use LSH3, you will hav to face the fact, that it enhances the loading times compared to Standard SH3 or GWX.

25 fps are a "normal" framerate concerning my system. TIME COMPRESSION in harbour ends at 64x in my game.
But if you leave the harbour area more than 25km behind you this lag should be passed.

LSH3 is designed much more "Living" especially within the harbour areas. There is much more ship traffic and animated objects in harbour equipment. In fact you are the first one asking for a "Light Harbour Traffic MOD". Even a "No Harbour Traffic MOD" will only do slightly changes to the frame rate. So we do not have such a MOD.

Sorry, but our scene.dat-specialist dwindled away two weeks ago (personal reasons) and we do not know when he will be back.

In Germany the use of this symbol is prohibited by law. By the way, it is not a "SS" symbol but the symbol of "National Socialism". You will have to delete some files to show the flag. Have a look into the textures folder.

Hi !

Open the scene.dat and look for LodFactor (6: Node-Sky > 8: EnvData > 9: EnvData). And then look on the right side to LodFactor. The default value is 1,0. A higher value is bad for fps. Have you a higer value as 1,0, set the value to 1,0 and then you have (eventually) better frames !

Dear LSH3-friends,
sometimes the question appears, how to use the "Autoplot"-function within LSH3 to navigate from Kiel to Brunsbüttel. Therefore we designed this manual to show the accurate way to steer to the navigation points and how to use the Autoplot-function to plot the course through the KWK-canal.

We did not include a guidance how to pass through the lock gates, because the postion of the last waypoint in front of the first gate and the speed with which the Kaleun approaches the gates differs to much.
Furthermore the gates of Kiel/Holtenau and Wilhelmshaven (both differ just slightly) compared to the gates of St. Nazaire which are definitively much shorter.
Additionally there is are further instructions necessary for the Type XXI due to its higher speed.
Therefore we only can give the following advice:
- PRACTICES MAKES PERFECT
- LESS (Speed) OFTEN IS MORE

Not allways, but sometimes when i cycle through units the camera goes up and down.

Doesn't happan allways, but when it happens is outside base, it's where i start my games.
When i cycle next unit, the cam does not focus on the units. points to a point in altitude then starts to go down and up.

I guess that the starting point of the SH3 commander is to close to a land unit somewhere on the map. It is a known bug that the ship-cam does hang up when it should show a land unit.
As i told before, you should be more than 20km (better even 25km) away from any shore.

I noticed this behavior last night. But I do not have any of the mods you have installed nor do I have Living Silent Hunter III installed.

I do have other mods installed though.

So maybe it's a bug within SH3 itself?

yes, i guess it is a "standard" bug of SH3.

But due to the fact, that within LSH3 more objects are changed to land units, it will occure a bit more often.

That's an old bug of SH3. It has been solved by the NYGM and GWX teams, but I don't know how. Try to contact Rubini or Stiebler from NYGM.

Am I the only one with this occurance?

I wanted to start a carreer before the war. I followed the instructions in the manual: I left the Erprobungsstelle and received the radio message to come back in order to be send to Wilhelmshaven. Unfortunately on the flotilla select screen back in base I could not choose Wilhelmshaven. The flotilla was there but when I clicked it, the "Versetzung beantragen" button did not appear. It only became available when I clicked on "Erprobungsstelle". However, I did not click it then - because the Erprobungsstelle was where I came from, right - but left everything the way it was. When starting the next patrol a message popped up, telling me my new base would be Wilhelmshaven. Alright, I thought, everything's fine - but when the game finished loading I find my boat in the gulf of guinea. The next radio message orders me to AM 18 as announced in the manual.

What did I do something wrong?

did you improve your U-Boat before leaving the Erprobungsstelle?
This often leads to an uncorrcet behaviour within the transfer module.

Furthermore you will have to return to Stralsund until "04.08.39 Uhrzeitgruppe 1200".

Have a look at page 7 of the manual concerning the passage "Apply for Transfer" ("Versetzung" in german).

If you still do have difficulties please post again or send me an e-mail and tell me the order of the activated MODs.

This might have been the problem - could be that I changed for the better hydrophone before the first patrol from Stralsund. Thanks for the hint, I'll give it a try! :yeah:

The date definitely wasn't the problem, I was back in port on the 2nd already just to be sure. The transfer screen acted as described until the 4th, when all three flotillas became available.

The mod is excellent, exactly how I want to play SH3.

It was difficult to download with the download dropping about halfway through each file, but I found a way around that problem.

1. The file should be 200mb but is only 95mb, for example. Move it to your desktop and rename it to add a '.part' to the end of the file name.
2. Go to the website and re-download the file. Once it starts to download pause the download.
3. In the folder you just chose to save the download should be two files. One is called 'thefilename' the other is called 'thefilename.part'. Delete the one with the '.part' extension.
4. Move the file you placed on your desktop in step 1 back into the folder.
5. Now when you resume the download it should start from 95mb (for example) instead of you having to start from zero every time the download ends prematurely. If it drops out again just repeat the process.

I checked all the files' integrity and didn't have any that were corrupt.

Hello Of the deep end,

there is just a much easier way to get the files:
JUST ASK ME! (PN or E-Mail)

In fact our server disconnects all downloads within one hour.
This is not a very good service, but the cheapest one we could deal with.
As far as I remember this one hour starts nearly a few minutes after each full hour. So it is a good try to start each DL one or two minutes afterwards.

and congratulations, LSH team, for the very promissing looking mod! I'm new to LSH, and just making my first test runs from Erprobungstelle Kiel. So far I have run into two questions:

1. I'm using the OLC GUI which came with the mod pack. However, I couldn't find any manual releated to OLC GUI, so I'm not sure about what zooms are used in this version of the GUI. (And what is the version used in LSH3V5? I assume it's some of the older versions, as there is zoom in the first place...) I think attack scope is 1,5x/6x, and observations scope is probably 1x/6x, but I'm not sure about this. And how about UZO, is it a "six or seven timer" also (6x or 7x)? Obs. scope looks more like a 10x, but I think this might be because it's bigger.

2. My first test run last night went almost ok; I departed Stralsund with IIA Type, approached the area east of Bornholm, took out two target ships, and set course back to the base. Everything went very well until I aproached Stralsund at TC 128 in the foul weather - got CTD while I was just about to run in to the bay through the NW channel. I was too stupid (and pxxxed off) so I didn't wait Windows to collect data and report. However, rig I run the game is pretty fine, and there was no problem in running the game with LSH before CTD. So, is there some known issues with SH3, LSH, or Erprobungstelle Kiel, which could have caused CTD? I'm asking this, because usually SH3 has been pretty stable at least to me.

Sorry, but at the moment there is no LSH3-manual for the OLC-GUI available. I'll lead your questions to our OLC-GUI-Expert who will be able to answer them.

There are no known issues concerning CTD when returning to Stralsund from the test run.
Except that one, that you MUST NOT equip your U-Boat BEFORE you leave for the first test run.

Which MODs do you have activated?

However, last night I managet to return to base after 12 hours patrol 30 nm of the base (left one day and returned the other). New problem occured after I asked transfer to Wilhelmshaven. After loading the game again Startpunkt was marked "NULL", and I found myself on the land, west England, near Irish Sea... :damn:

Next thing I'll try is leaving Erprobungstelle Kiel making NO changes at all to the boat or crew. My only question this time is, is it mandatory to go for and sink those two target ships before returning to the base for transfer? If not, I'll make just a short two days patrol near Stralsund.

I guess you are driving too fast for LSh3V5. :D

The radio message on leaving says: "... Approach with 9 knots to target. Attack and sink ships with torpedoes. ..."

There is a second message sent on Aug-2-39: "... Return to Stralsund until August, 4th 1939 at 12:00 h. Transfer to the 2nd Flotilla to Wilhelmshaven. ..."

Mabe you give this a try.

This time I was REALLY fast, but actually LSH3V5 seems to like it. What I did (just to gain experience):

1. Started new career via Commander, Erprobungstelle Kiel
2. Loaded game with no changes in crew or equipment
3. "Returned" to base without ever leaving berth (pier)
4. Asked transfer to Wilhelmshaven
5. Loaded second patrol at once, without departing/loading SH3 again
6. VOILA, found myself at Wilhelmshaven with no problems at all.

So, I did more than one thing against "the book" (rules), but I think this might work just fine. Made only short run out of berth (harbour and locks looks SOOOO nice I can't tell you) to Jadebucht, and returned to base.

I'll do everything once again, and if all goes without problems, I'll head to my first test/training patrol today in real life. I'll report you how it'll go.

Thank you for your assistance, and if someone could just make basic OLC GUI information availible, I'm sure many of us would appreaciate it a lot.

I managet to do it again, i.e. transfer from Stralsund to Wilhelmshaven using the very same means I told you in my previous post. However, while making more test runs in Jadebucht, I think I located a funny mistake in Angriffscheibe's build up. Angriffscheibe seems to show right (or at least acpetable) submarine's own course only if the sub is heading to the North, South, West, or East. BUT if you take any other course than those mentioned, Angriffscheibe seems to be turning into wrong direction. Even if it's easier to test and see, I try to explain (can't send a screenshot).

1. Assume you are running on straight course 090T. Angriffscheibe show your course and countercourse 090T/270T.
2. Turn slow to the right on course 135T, and you'll see how Angriffscheibe turns also to the right. However, because of how the Angriffscheibe is build up, it'll end up to show course 225T/045T. Why the Angriffscheibe show right courses if you are running to the North, South, West, or East, is also easy to understand by testing. Reason is in it's build up.
3. If you turn more to the right, to the course 180T, the Angriffschebe will again turn with you, but to the wrong direction 225T... 224T... 223T, until it again end up to show "right" course and counter course 000T/180T. And if you turn now 1 degree to the right, to the course 181T, the Angriffscheibe will show 359T/179T. And at 45 degrees angles (045T, 135T, 225T, and 315T) Angriffscheibe is always 90 degrees off.

Conclusion:

In the Angriffscheibe either a) a wrong plate (B-plate, counting plates from outside to the inside direction) is turning, or b) B-plate is turning to the wrong direction. I think I have seen some Angriffscheibe were the A-plate (the utermost one) was the turning plate (+ of course rotators used by the player.)

I don't believe this is caused by the wrong or inproper installation of the mod, because the problem is too logic. So I'm quite positive there is something wrong in the original build up. However, now the Angriffscheibe is pretty much useless if you are running in any other courses than those four i mentioned, while making observations and calculations.

A quick thought; I think I found a solution to my Angriffscheibe problem. I'm not sure yet, but maybe I just need to "adapt" my own thinking... i.e. I probably could read the plates different than I have used to do. I have to do some tests to be sure, but I bet OLC did few changes in how to the Angriffsheibe work, during his creative working phase. I think I have used some later version of his work, got used to it, and found "problems" with this version... And it's not impossible either that my first version of OLC GUI I used with GWX3.0 wasn't actually working properly, as my game/mod build up was then much more complicated than it's right now with your work... Maybe I just learned some "bad habbits" with my previous Angriffscheibe.

So, what I need most just now is the "FM", so I could do RTFM. :03:

Angriffscheibe-problem solved! I really have to read the scheibe differently than the previous one I got used to, and I have to say, I'm starting to like this one even more than the previous version. And thanks to you I ever gave another thought on this scheibe! :up:

So, after I'll get my boat back to Wilhelmshaven, I can put my efforts to solve next two problems: how to raise my boats endurance (running with U 8, Type IIB, not with some other boat belonging to the IIA class), and why my TDC panel is showing pretty odd Schusswinkels every time bearing target is more than 10 degrees of bow (010R/350R). Found this problem while making test approaches on ships sighted during test runs. I can manually put in right values to the TDC of course, but that seems have no effect on what is shown in TDC panel. This problem is very interesting, as war is getting closer day after day. :03: This is a bit like I would be preparing a real ship to the real war, solwing a problem after problem, and wondering, if I could hit anything if it'll get "real". Maybe Prien, Kretchmer and the others felt somehow in the same way, at least after torpedo problems raised their head. And maybe I should get my boat back to the Erprobungstelle Kiel for futer testings of angled shot. :hmmm:

I think when you talk about endurance you mean the range the boat can travel in maximum. For Type II, I do have no data, but Type VII has its maximum range travelling at 7 to 9kn.

Because I have not tested manual targeting with OLC-GUI, I can just guess what might be wrong:
- Did you try to calculate: 180°-YourCalculatedAngle
- In Peri-Zoom-Mode take the given MastHeight, in normal Peri-Mode double the MastHeight.

(Saw a german manual today. The final version {in English too} will be available soon).

I've started playing LSH5 and I'm very impressed. I read in the doc's that come with LSH5 that you can start a patrol at sea (as in GWX) using SH3Commander for LSH5 but it doesn't seem to work.I looked in the SH3Commander files, but the positions for the various ports seem to be in Long/Lat format. Can anybody help? Thanks.

Hello dthomo,

if you just want to have a look, where the coordinates are located, start the MissionEditor and click "New" for a empty mission.

Now zoom in to your desired location. The statusline of ME shows the coordinates - first pair in "SH3-Style" second pair in degrees.

But please tell me what didn't work.
Did you point SH3Commander to use the LSH3V5 installation?
Did you activate the LSH3V5-MOD within SH3Commander?

I've ihstalled JSGME into Commander and activated the LSH5_SH3 Commander files. SH3 Commander (for starting the game) points to E;/Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 3.The "Start at Sea" file is in the original cfg.folder of SH3 Commander, there is no copy of this in the "Mods" folder of SH3 Commander, only the SH3 Commander -LSH v5 files that are in the download. I hope this helps.

That is the problem.Although I've activated the "Start at Sea" option in SH3 Commander, I always start in port. That can be quite interesting to begin with, but it gets a bit tiresome after a while. Is it possible that the co-ordinates in the Start At Sea.cfg file need changing to fit in with the more complex Harbours in LSH v5?
