It could have to do with the read / write permissions... Your game saves are always in C:\ User \ Me \ SH3 and the UAC could mess up there while writing. No chance to change that path, but you can give the folders / game directions / .exes explicit permissions to read and write there.

Or simply disable the UAC protection.

Also the 10th flottila exists as a starting option even though it was founded at 1942? Should i consider reinstalling the mod?

Also make sure your not saving with the same file name over and over that will also cause issues. Every time you save your game issue a new file name SH3-01, SH3-02 etc.

And before I load the save it sometimes says something like 'home base changed to...' although this happened when I tried to use a career from LSH3 5.1

Does "LSH3 edition 2015" include a full manual in English like the "LSH3 The big manual 2010" included in German in the 2010 release of the mod? That manual looked great but unfortunatelly I can not understand German... it would be great to have a similar manual in English this time.

As far as I know this is well known problem for Nvidia cards.
It is needed to set screen resolution to 4:3 format (for example 1024:768).
And then to start the game.

Now however, it works, and crashes inside the game when loading a career or any mission.. let it be museum or naval academy. everything crashes. I checked everything I tried every step many many many times for the last couple of hours. I followed all your instructions to the letter.. Still.. it crashes.

btw I just tried to install gwx+ all the other mods again.. it works first time without a problem like any other thing to this day...
I also made fresh install like 10 times... to no avail..

Well, some details are needed.

Do you have a 64 bit OS?

From the symptoms, I would ask you to make sure you have the 4 GB patch successfully applied first. LSH is a bit RAM - demanding, so to speak.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I downloaded the full mod yesterday and got malware & a bunch of programs I hadn't downloaded.
Totally screwed up my desktop etc.
Seems InterStat was the main culprit.
Gave up trying to fix my Laptop at 11.00pm last night.
Probably spend another few hours again tonight.
I'm sure you do brilliant work, that's why I purchased SH3 on steam yesterday and then your mod.
Just like to save any other poor sods from going through the pain.

Of course! Just use the h.sie patch and activate the option "Move 1WO to bridge" (it's in the "HsieOptionsSelector.exe" file).

The original source always only here: www.lsh3.com (http://www.lsh3.com)
I just check our files on server. all files OK (date, size, integrity)
Be shure lsh3 NEVER add some maleware or other strange tools in our files!

Supermod LSH3 Edition 2015 includes only Modfiles and some sh3 relevant progs and patches (like COMMANDER, JSGME, 4GB-PATCH, HSIE-PATCH)

As we know some antivirus security programs declare HSIE-PATCH (H.SIE_V16B1_Patch-Kit) as maleware!
In fact this alert is wrong, HSIE-PATCH is 100% clean and serious software.

If u have alerts like these by downloading deactivate your security-program while download and install Edition 2015

Read the LSH3 INSTALLATION Manual here (http://www.lsh3.com/dl/v15/LSH3-EDITION-2015-INSTALLATION_EN.pdf) page 3 )

After LSH3 EDITION 2015 installation you will have a new folder named “LSH3 2015” on desktop.

In Edition 2015 this importand basic function (Watch Officer automatically on deck) is allways activated by default, coas HSIE-Patch is allways activated by default!

Additional Information:
· h.sie-options marked with „(LSH)“ are already prepared and activated.
If other options should be selected then LSH3 2015 HSIE OPTIONS SELECTOR has to be started and then the Mod _LSH3-2015___Patch_HSIE-V16B1 has to be activated by JSGME at least.

Hello all,
I just wanted to provide my feedback on LSH3 2015.

I don't know if something was fixed, but I downloaded the first revision back in the summer, and the mod worked great but I had the same issue some others had, where you would see these strange DirectX pop ups (about 24 of them) during the game start up. I know it had something to do with my graphics, and didn't affect the game, I just had to click on through all of the messages until I got to the main menu.

Recently, I did a clean re-install of SH3, and downloaded the latest version of LSH3 2015, and I no longer see these pop ups. At that same time, I also set my NVIDIA graphics card according to the recommendations. Now with the new version, I no longer see the pop ups.

Regarding the mod. I think it looks great. The way that 4G patch, SHC, HSIE, etc.. are all integrated into the installation is fabulous! This is one of easiest mods I've ever installed!

The interface is well done. I always liked the idea of having to make a "milk" run with a new sub. Original!

The graphics look superb, always loved LSH3 port activity!

The one thing I'm missing (or can't find) is the AOB calculator. That would be nice to play with.

Also, is there any way to add the Magui type interface?

The point system (in this mod and all mods) always confused me. I have no idea if I should ignore the renown or not. Do I care if I don't make it to the assigned grid? Since the upgrades are cheap, do I care about renown?


Finally, so far I have no bugs or issues. It's working well.

Thanks again to the team for making an old game new again! Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Hello All,

I just wanted to post this for anyone who has a “Steam” copy of Living Silent Hunter III and wishes to install the LSH3 2015 Version. If you have already tried to install the LSH3 2015 Super Mod you probably have already run into the error “SH3 must not be installed in this path! Please install SH3 anywhere else!” Here is a workaround to that issue, so far I have not encountered any issues doing this if there is I will update this post.

1.) I suggest you have a fresh clean install of SH3 on your pc before trying to proceed further. I would uninstall and delete any remaining files left on your pc from steam. Next re-install the game on your pc. (I heavily recommend doing this to avoid any possible issues)

2.) Next you will need to locate your SH3.exe file. Go to your game root folder usually located in C:/ Program Files / Steam / Steamapps / Common / Silent Hunter 3 and copy the “Silent Hunter 3” folder to your desktop.

3.) Now to save yourself some headaches you must eliminate all spaces from the file name. It doesn’t matter what you call it just remove the spaces for example Silent_Hunter_3, SH3, Silent_Hunter etc. you get the point.

4.) If you have not already I would download the LSH3 2015 Edition and install the mod according to the instructions just remember to when the installation asks you to find the root folder it will be the one located on your desktop not in the steam folder.

5.) ENJOY!

Having a lot of trouble trying these workarounds for Steam versions. Copying everything into a new directory didn't seem to work, then I started getting a launch error so I tried to get round that, then when it seemed to get past that I had a "cannot initialize 3D engine" pop-up that none of the methods such as replacing the intro movie files seems to fix. :cry: Looks like I'll be going back to good old GWX tomorrow...

Managed to get a non-Steam copy of the game. Removed the Steam version and anything left over, restarted my system and installed the non-Steam version. Installed fine, loaded it up, works ok. Go to install LSH, I'm still getting "SH3 must not be installed in this path!". :/\\!! So frustrating!

Right now we (LSH Support Team) have two such unsolved problems "cannot initialize 3D engine" yet.

Both of them only by Windows 10 AND SH3-Steam versions.

Mabe some important rules to install Silent Hunter III (Win 7/8.1/10) are helpfull:


1) Never use the original default SH3 installation folder (not by DVD and not by Steam version)!

The “Destination Location/Save Folder“ must be changed/select manually during installation.

A correct “Destination Location/Save Folder“ is: C:\SilentHunterIII\ (example)



2) After installation supermod LSH3 V15 you must set manually some new preferences to the (new!) SH3.EXE!

Select the > SH3.EXE File > click right mousebutton > PREFERENCES > COMPATIBILITY

- Set: run program in compatiblity mode for > WINDOWS 7
- Set: run program as > ADMINISTRATOR
- Set: > DISABLE DESKTOP COMPOSITION

Save this with OK/APPLY and restart your computer now!



3) Check your graphical driver settings (NVIDIA or AMD)

- NVIDIA: SCALLING MOD must be > ASPECT RATIO
- NVIDIA: PERFORME SCALLING must be > GPU

- AMD: Set > MAINTAIN ASPECT RATIO
- AMD: Set > ACTIVATE GPU SCALLING

Save these settings and restart your computer now!


4) Now start LSH3 Mod enabler JSGME and activate ONLY the LSH3 V15 FULLVERSION Mod (no other GUI Mods!)

As first test just start SH3 NAVAL ACADEMY and try a quick game to test your SH3 installation and system settings.
If all works fine exit the game and activate your LSH3 WIDESCREEN Mod.
Now start SH3 NAVAL ACADEMY again and try to play in WIDESCREEN performance.
If all works fine u can start a stable career.

I installed SHIII to the C:\Ubisoft\SilentHunter III destination folder and it worked just fine. Also, I knew that installing as administrator with Windows 7 compatibility mode would be the right way to go. The rest of your instructions are found in your installation manual.

I want to thank you for this excellent supermod and all that you have done and will do to maintain your work. When I upgraded to a new P.C. in 2013, this game was not one of my legacy software that refused to install.

It has been two and half years of waiting for a way that would allow me to enjoy again, one of my favorite simulations of all time. It has please me to no end. Thank you again so much!:rock:

Where did you install it?

I'm not the greatest at this sort of thing but "C:\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII", however Urmel's post says not to use the default installation folder. If that's the case am I correct in assuming it would be acceptable for me to create a new folder such as "C:\SilentHunterIII\LSH3" or something similar? I'll give that a go and see what happens.

Also thanks for your responses Urmel! If I can get beyond trying to get LSH3 to install I'll be sure to follow the steps you've provided :)

Edit: Apologies if the point about the folder is for LSH not being in the same place as where I've installed the original game - It's been a long day!

Start regedit and look for the following hive key:

...\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter III

there should be these entries:

InstalledPath -> C:\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\
Path -> C:\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\sh3.exe

If not: correct these entries.

First to Fishers of Men, i thank you for your very nice words to us!


For better understanding this tiresome topic “SH3 Installation Path”:

Any installation of original SH3 by DVD/STEAM/AMAZONE works fine by playing the game in original version.

The problem starts by using master tool “Mod Enabler JSGME” to play SH3 with a supermod (LSH3, CCOM, NYGM, GWX, WAC).

Since generation Windows Vista SH3 tools like JSGME or Commander have not the correct userrights/permissions to work fine.

That’s why following SH3 installation paths (into Windows System folders) don’t work:

C:\ProgramData
C:\Programs
C:\Programs (x86)


So, the simply trick is to install SH3 (and ALL necessary SH3 tools) into a other “Destination Location/Save Folder”!

This means you can choose/set ANY drive or partition and ANY folder name but NOT a Windows System folder (C:\Program…)

Some examples for working fine paths names:

C:\game\
C:\SH3\
C:\SilentHunter3\
C:\SilentHunterIII\

During SH3 DVD installation: Even by choosing only a destination/drive C: (without a folder) works fine because SH3 ALLWAYS set automatically foldername \SilentHunterIII\


If u already have a original SH3 installation here another Tip:

1. Just COPY the whole “Silent Hunter III” original game folder to another place
2. After that be shure there is no empty space character in the whole path/folder name “SilentHunterIII” (not “Silent Hunter III”)
3. After that u can install supermod “Living Silent Hunter III Edition 2015” – it will work fine

I can confirm the problems with the tools. It has to do with the tools' permission to write data in the folder you specified. Or better said, with the lack of permission. There is a workaround, but that is more for the experts.

Edit: And I can confirm the copy - the - whole - folder method as well. I suggest, everybody should make a vanilla - backup that way.

When using the Widescreen mod, why is it not possible to use FullHD 1980x1080 ?

Can do it with "The Grey Wolves Mod" but when using the Widescreen Mod of LSH and change Resolution the Menu and tings like looking through Binocular is not scaled correctly :(

You have posted on the older V5 version thread and not on the LSH3-2015 thread is that correct?
LSH3-2015 Widescreen GUI mod runs 1920 x 1080 without any problems.
Make sure your SH3 game Graphic setting is set to your monitor's native resolution.
Another problem can be the Gpu settings shown here for Nvidia.

Well had no real clew where to post correctly, but as you answered at least i reached someone. I do not claim that i did no mistake so i share with you what i did in hope you might maybe help me.

1. Before i posted here i allready did the Nvidia settings
2. i installed the widescreen Mod of the LSH Mod
3. i set the resolution in the d3d9.cfg to 1920x1080 (Native
4. the result is a not correctly scaled ingame UI so the 3d engine is fine but the ui is too small for the screen

I hope someone of you can help me and give me a clew what to do ... as the rest of the mod and settings work fine ...

Make sure your SH3 game Graphic setting is set to your monitor's native resolution.

When you start the game for the first time SH3 defaults to its own game settings.
When _LSH3-2015_GUI_WIDESCREEN is added it knows it has to go from 4.3 to 16.9
In theory this setting should also be replicated in the LSH3-2015 Option Graphic Setting screen 1920 x 1080 although it may not show the correct HZ rate.
The correct setting can be applied from the settings showing in the drop down box.
If this is already showing the correct settings or a change is needed once applied you are set to go.
Opening the Video Option from the Main Menu should confirm a tick showing against the Full Screen setting.

After Steam-installation of SH3, I had a working 1.4.0.1 version, I added the resolution patch (1920x1050 here), and that was it. Game started, and worked.

Downloading LSH v5 and starting saw the file being decompressed, but when installation started, it broke off with an error saying that the installation path is wrong, and that there shall be no spaces in the location'S name. Problem is that Steam puts the game just in the usual place where Steam games go: Steam/steamapps/common/. LSH not possible for Steam version of SH3?

I would suggest using the later LSH3-2015 version where many changes have been made to improve the game.

While I am a long subsim member in these forums, I came to this thread via the official support forum link on the official LSH3 2015 dowload page. These many mods and how and what is why to be done, is quite confusing. I think I just go with the default thing once again like back in those days, and just add the tool-mods from back then that i still have on CD. But the 4 GB patch might come handy, for FSX it worked wonders. :)
