@Cheapskate: I found the reason for the probs! :DL Only when I install Han's Stock Repair Times Files then there are the troubles with the IX - Boats . Now I used an older "Basic" file and the IX-B is like it should be! So now I need to get the Stock Repair Times fixed and that would be it! Maybe there is something wrong with that file . So maybe u can try that too - Your WAC plus Han's Stock Repair Times and then check the IX-B (1945) and maybe that bug will occur as well! If so maybe Han should have a look on that issue!? :03:

Have had a quick look at Stock Repair Times. This didn't seem to contain any files that would cause any change to the appearance or equipment of any sub in WAC4.1. However, against my better judgement :rotfl2: , I installed it and unsuprisingly, find no change whatsoever from the details I posted earlier.

If you can see a change in your display, then it certainly has nothing to do with Repair Times.

I have been trying all day to run 4.1 on my Vista machine. I could run sh3 before this without problem. With this mod, no way. I have tried the Vista patch and Starforce immediately refuses to run the game. It says my .exe file is modified.

I can get to the menu but it fails loading the campaign or a single mission. It loads about 80 % and then halts for a long, long time before I get the Msoft ap error message.

I have reinstalled twice, tested, modded, rebooted, no way.

Grrr There goes my Sunday.:damn:

I have spent months trying but got it running smoothly now at last!

Do you have the no cd crack to get around the star force issue?

Also, please post your machine spec so that we can help.

This version has much more going on in the game than any other, and so most problems found are due to system specs not being high enough.

The game runs perfectly if you have the right set up.
Watch it. You can't talk about cracks here, not allowed. Anyway, I don't use it. I've got a Vista, 3 GB RAM, triple core, ATI 2400, DX9 and had no problem running stock or other mods. Just this one. If I use the Vista patch it changes the .exe file and starforce won't allow that.
I tried using XP compatibilty --nope.

Too bad, this looks like a fun mod.:stare:

Somebody knows, why in a radioroom and at hydroacoustic course and speed gauges do not work? Besides on a place hydroacoustic it is impossible to hear to horizon manually. A bug?

I had that same issue when the .exe file was altered, and this caused the star force problem.

Hi all. I have just installed WAC 4.1 over a clean 1.4b stock SH3 installation, with no other mods used (only WarAceCampaign 4.1_final_FULL_XP). I see now that when I attempt the naval gunnery academy mission, as soon as this loads I immediately get a message stating that the deck gun has been destroyed. Thereafter the game won't let me man the gun, although it is perfectly visible from the outside view and F10 still takes me to the station. This makes the mission rather impossible! Any ideas? This never happened to me with WAC 3.0. Thanks. :hmmm:

Items notified as "destroyed" often result from a mismatch between the sub equipment called for by the mission and that shown in your SH3 save files (in XP this is in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents).

Did you delete this file before making your new install? Or do you have more than one version of SH3 on your drive?

So now I got at last my next frustrating experience: :cry: New career , all days before with no probs and now when approaching Danzig on 1939-09-01 and firing a Type 2 Torpedo on a Polish Trawler CTD - Yeah ,how I dig that ! U know what ? I ain't gonna play Career anymore til SH 5 - just Singlemissions from now on - am I frustrated? Hell yeah! :damn:

Thanks for the response. I actually have three separate SH3 installs - one each for GWX, NYGM and WAC (as well as an umodded stock SH3 installation just patched to 1.4b). All three mega mod installations are on my E: drive (a second hard drive that I had installed on my PC), while the stock version is on my original C: drive.

Reason for asking is that there are graphical differences between the deck guns on the two versions. For example WAC 4.1 has a large coiled rope round the length of the barrel which is lacking on 3.1. This may be sufficient to cause the problem you are getting.

If you didn't delete this folder (or are unsure) , I suggest you delete it now and rerun WAC 4.1. A new folder will be created which I hope will enable you to run the mission.

This is anwesome mod and I really would like to play it. But the hydro room appears to be always buggy with a freezing needle and the active sonar´s button onthe left of the gear. In 1939.

This is Windows vista updated + fresh SH3 and WAC 4.1 after the vista patch.
Curiously, my last installation was the same amd WAC 4.1 worked very fine. But I had to format my PC and here I am.
It wasnt a fresh SH3. I had used WAC 4.1 after uninstalling WAC 3.1.
And between them, LSH3 IV. (What a mess).

I guess I will have to install Windows XP right? ok, but I am still looking for a solution for this issue since playing on vista is much easier for me.

It is not vista the problem but the download from 1 server has this hydrophone bug. From the Urmel Server you get this bug actually. Use one of the other servers!

Thanks for the suggestion. I deleted everything that I could find, but the program is obviously still reading something somewhere that I can't find, because I keep getting the "deck gun destroyed" message even after changing MultiSH3's save folder name to something totally new. Looks like my only other option is an uninstall and reinstall of the whole WAC4.1 mod, rather than just the save folder. Ah well, if it works it'll be worth the trouble!

Something you might try first ( if you haven't done so already) would be to check your shortcut by right clicking it, selecting properties ,find target, and see where it goes. You could also double click on the SH3.exe file and try starting WAC that way.

If this doesn't change anything, then reinstall is the only option.

I just hope that you haven't got a corrupted download! It's a pity that HanSolo doesn't provide a MD5 hash check as this would indicate whether the initial download was OK.

Reinstalling wasn't too drastic, as it was only a case of disabling the single WAC 4.1 file with JSGME to revert to the stock 1.4b SH3 installation, and then activating it again after deleting all the save files. Went pretty quickly and smoothly, and most importantly fixed the issue. Not sure what the problem actually was, but at least it's now resolved! I'm more than happy to leave it at that!! Thanks once again for all of the suggestions. Much appreciated.

I can;t help but notice, THE PERISCOPES ARE BACKWARDS!!!! What I mean is, is that when I click in the obs periscope inside the sub, it takes me to the square headed attack periscope located in the center of the conning tower, and when I click in the attack periscope, it takes me to the obs periscope located in the front of the conning tower. basically, the interior periscopes are linked to the wrong exterior ones. WTF?!?!?! I soke with Han Solo about this, and I'm still not 100% sure why he did this, but its just starting to be kinda a pet peeve. Also, what I think he was trying to do with this effect was to link a square periscope obs view with the square att pericsope head. BUT evidence shows that neither periscope offered a square view, and tha this is just a misinterpretation of the head. You see, the head is square to allow the lens on the inside to move up and down (that is to say vertical pitch) and still have a field of view. so the square head is just a cover for a circulat lens which sat inside the head and looked through the rectangular glass, and could pitch it's view up and down inside the glass.

So really, bit periscopes were round. (if you would like documentaion, I can send you a pdf)

ANYWAY, could someone tell me what files to delete (and use the stick files instead) or alter to get the interior scopes linked with the correct exterior ones?

My Warace campaign 4.1 crashes when entering campaign mode. Only Training works, if you try Single player or Campaign it gives me an error message and exits to windows.

* A question please:
where in the "data" folder would I find the files responsible for
a) the green water (underwater) and the blurry effects when going under the water.
b)the modified deck gun, periscopes with the twisty things around them.
and
c) the flag pennants and the config stuff that allows you to raise the flags and lower them.

these are the only mods I want and i shall integrate them into GWX if possible cause WAC4.1 does not work for me. (I might at least use the features I like, and that work)

I have installed WAC 4.1 over a clean installation SH3 1.4 with some mods like WAC 4.1 realistic hull damage, WAC 4.1 16 km and WAC 4.1 integrated orders fix. The game crashes when I want to begin a campaign. The museum, the training missions and single missions are working fine.

I'm running Windows XP sp3, Intel Core Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, 3.25 RAM, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT.

Do you know how can I have the sun halo back?

All you have to do is go to Data/Menu?GUI and rename these 2 tga files :
Periscope
Church_OBS_Periscope

If the red mask doesn't match, rename these 2 tga files :

Congratulations on your trauma free reinstall :DL Would have been interesting to know what was causing that odd problem - have often heard about it happening in Campaign but never before in Training. But nevermind - the main thing is you're up and running.

So it's "Onwards and Upwards, Kaleun" ....or this being a sub sim.....maybe "Onwards and Downwards" might be more appropriate!!

You're correct of course, in saying that changing the peri graphics isn't that difficult. But the main reason for U 48 KM's post was the misplacement of the Observation and Attack periscopes.

The WAC4 update introduced this error - Version 3.1 properly displayed the attack scope to the rear of the Turm with the Obs scope situated on the bow side of the UZO.

The problem lies somewhere in the Objects folder - I tried using the 3.1 file in an otherwise version 4 install and the peris displayed OK. Directly the v 4 Objects folder was inserted - they reversed. :damn:

Like U48 I feel somwhat irritated by this. So if anyone cares to let us know how to correct it - you would be making at least two subsimmers very happy!

I have a wierd mix called Windows 7 "Vienna", its almost a windows XP but it looks like windows 7. I hope that's not the problem.
I believe i tried a patch, but I'm not sure if its the same one you are refering to, - do you have a link for it? that might solve the problem.
I like this german-made mod, its superior to all the others. ;)

I'll be trying to solve this tomorrow. I made a fresh install of everything, I put WAC4.1 brand new and applied the patch you told me. Ill let you know if it works.

I wanted to ask about this:
why is the 3rd flotilla twice? Where is the option to select flotilla 12, or flotilla 11?
can this be fixed??

Well, read the thread and somewhere was written that wac 4.1 16 km wasn't compatible with Windows XP so uninstall it ... and began a career finally! Thanks again for your work! It's a wonderful experience for a GWX's veteran like me. Sailing in a german port is impressive.

I have always some questions for you:
How can I have the halo sun back? For the moment, I have a flat sun...
How can I download SH3 Gen described in the handbuch manual... the link seems strange...

I would have to say GE has removed SH3Gen from his website. I will get it up at BtS by this weekend. I guess he didn't want to pay for another year for that server.

It looks like a corrupt u/l from my end. Let me investigate and I'll try and get a good copy onto FF today.

Yes, I had an error message. But I`ve taken the damaged file from the GWX version, it is the same file, right? Nevertheless, I had a CTD during the loading process (I´m in port) of WAC4.1.

I send the file (GermanNames.cfg) tonight!

Finally got it up and going and it is beautiful! My old computer would not run it so... now have a quad core, 8 gig mem, Vista x64 and is it nice. I really like the immersion of the mod and I have barely scratched the surface. I look forward to finding other touches that have been incorporated into the mod. I prefer this mod over Grey Wolves although it too is very nice. Great Job.

The one that drops down and allows you to see the full screen.
It has all the LARGE DIALS when you point arrow at the bottom.
The depth gauge slides from one side and allows you to adjust depth precisely.

Where can I find this mod? It did not come with GWX3.0

I tried the patch, i tried everything. Campaign does not work, ..error message and crashes. Only single player and training.
Do you know others who have the same problems?
maybe some have solved it.

I tried the patch, i tried everything. Campaign does not work, ..error message and crashes. Only single player and training.
Do you know others who have the same problems?
maybe some have solved it.

If you look at OG Hase's posts 1004 and 1013 in this thread (page 41) you'll see that he also had this problem.

He had substituted an earlier basic.cfg file in place of the one which came with WAC 4.1.,and whilst he could play Single missions OK, experienced crashes in career.

I think that you may also have done something similar.

To check your current install,try loading the Museum. This takes a while to load in WAC but if it crashes, it indicates something being amiss elsewhere.

If it loads: Go to Germany, Uboats,and click on each of the sub types and years shown in the Versions column. Should any of them display incorrectly or crash, then that is probably where your problem lies.

You could also simply disable any mods you may have made (apart from any released specifically for WAC 4.1) and see if you can then run a Campaign.

I play WAC4.1 with the SH3 Commander without any problems. And with many settings! :hmmm:

For example with the settings: Skip intro movies; Simulate a realistic career length; Use real ship names; Randomise ship tonnage and u-Boot crush depth; and so on...

Everything without problems !

And I started my career with the Commander !

Magic, - you might be able to help me with a few things. 3 things

1) Its that girly cheerleader in the controll room. I want to remove it and put some other photograph or propaganda instead. Where is the tga. file to edit? I cant find it. (also the chick in the radio room.. i want it replaced with propaganda poster.. more suited for that time..
(I know the druck_radio files (tga) but it seems to have no effect..i tried

2)I made it so that the whole screen is visible, the standard bottom bar of GWX is gone, and you can slide out the dials from one side or the other if you need them.. the bad side is all this is not compatible with "Integrated orders"..and now the big buttons are back. Is there some way to put back the integrated orders? Tuddley would probably know.. It seems when you activate a mod, it fixes something, but screws up another.. :(

3) and finally since you're the expert on this.. How do I get rid of the bottom crews images.. so that they slide back, but dont "stick" ? also when using 'silent run' order, the little icon for it shows up. All I want is a screen free of any little pictures, dials, icons etc.. maybe you can help

1. I tried looking for the cheerleader, but no avail. Those type files used to be in Textures/Tnormal/tex just like the druck_radio files. It must be in a Dat file now.

2. Be sure to install the WAC 3.0 Stock GUI first, then install Mav's mod next. You will have to search for so Integrated Orders mod, there are quite a few. Then you might have to manually install them into Mav's Mod since they all are controlled by the Menu.ini.

3. The officer icons are also in the Menu.ini file, and should work the same as the Console and Dials by adding or removing a semi-colon.

for 1.)

You have to open the file ... _CR.dat in interior folders with S3D. There is the .tga file. This then extract with S3D and copy into the textures folder (... TNormal \ tex).

The exact name of the file, I can now look up the evening.

for 2.) Here I have a separate (Standalone-)"Integrated Orders" Mod for download on my MediaFire Page: http://www.mediafire.com/?jwmtrynmnty
After the download you have to install the MOD manually "by hand". Menu_ini because the file is changed, the MOD can not be activated by JSGME.

You must open the file data\Interior\NSS_Uboat7(for example Typ VII boat))\NSS_Uboat7_CR.dat with S3D. On the left side you search the chunk "detalii_7.tga" > Embedded image. Then on the right side you can extract the .tga File and put this extracted file into the Textures Folder (...TNormal\tex). Look here:

Its done. The game feels more realistic without Hollywood style bikini women on board.

I fixed like 7 tga files!.. all of them had those things the Amis used to paint on their bombers in the war.. very inappropriate for a u-boat.

its the missing shadow texture. i recently managed to built an own, when i remodelled the bunkers as well. its a bit fuzzy work to make it, but the effect is very good.

its chunk 1163 "steel.tga" it has a lightmap called "LM_BNK.tga" this is the needed texture...

Did you alter the game specs for this one. I've tried download and install twice and I get black screens with sound. Once I got the crew in the control room on a black background, no sub.

My Vista machine with 3 Gigs of RAM and 512 M on the vid card can run SH3 & 4 with no problems.

I looked but you have indicated nothing in the mod write-ups about altered video specs.:timeout:

I am using the original dvd. Starforce will not permit loading the patched exe so I didn't use it. I had to re-install again. The no-dvd thing should not be a requirement to use a mod !:arrgh!:

Yes, I agree but this is no problem of the mod but of the SilentHunter programme code & Windows Vista/Windows 7 different memory management!

If you would use Windows Xp32 Bit you would not have these problems.

I can confirm that I have WAC4.1 running under Win7 x64 Ultimate.
But you have to make sure that the Vista/Win7 Patch changes the .exe file!
If it fails it won´t work!

Use the no DVD-Thing from the web and then apply the Vista/Win7 patch.
After that I also have changed the settings from the exe file to run in winxp32 compability mode.

The resolution fix works for me also... bu I realized that nvidia cards do have problems with latest drivers.

I can get OLCs working but not Hsie's or ACM Reloaded or MaGUI. I feel WAC 4.1 is very immersive though I did like the harbours in LSH5.

Until someone comes up with another answer you can use a programme called SetKeys to change any key map. It's nine from the bottom on this page: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=cat&id=1

After having not not played SHIII for over a year, I have found this wonderful mod. However, I cannot get it running apart from the training and museum. I bought a new PC three weeks ago, specs as follows:

AMD Athlon II X4 620 CPU 800MHz

5 Mb memory

NVidia GeForce GT 230 1.5 Mb

OS Windows 7 Home Basic

My new PC runs SHIII GWX3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, SHIV and many other games without any problem. WAC, however, always does a CTD after the opening of a career.

Last night I found Flamm's posting made over a year ago, where he stated similar problems to those which I have had and to which HanSolo advised that he reinstall. Flamm then posted:

Of course I installed WAC on patched version.
I tried to reinstall 3 times, all correct.
The only thing... I have russian version of XP.:hmm:
Maybe this is the problem.


My Windows 7 is also Russian.

But I cannot see how the system language of flamm's OS and my OS can be the root of both flamm's and my own problems. Nevertheless, evidence seems to be pointing that way.

I shall try again to do a perfect install and see what happens.

Any advice would be appreciated.

When I launch my first career sortie out of Wilhelmshaven, 1939, the game loads quickly until the loading bar reaches about 98% then it hangs there for about 5 minutes. There then follows a CTD with a message from the OS (in Russian) that says that there is something wrong with the instalment, that the system is checking for a remedy and that I shall be informed of a remedy if one is found.

I had LSH up and running the other day - no problem.

I am now downloading WAC files again and slowly going through this whole thread.

It is WAC 4.1 that I am downloading of course, and I have noticed in the thread HanSolo's constant reminder of the file size: he says 4.6/4.7 or whatever. The file size of my first download (WarAce Campaign 4.1 final FULL XP.7z) is, however, given as 450 Мb (471*859*200 bites).

I am downloading from HanSolo's site.

(The second file has just downloaded as I write and its size is given as 471*859*200 bites.)

A quick way to discover whether any of your downloads have been corrupted would be to use a hash check utility such as this one:-

After download (the button is at the end of the write-up), just run the exe file which will open up a window. Make sure Md5 is selected then simply drag each of the files (exactly as originally downloaded) in turn into the window. You should see a series of digits within a matter of seconds.

Carotio's download should show the following identifiers:-

Vol 001 - 9416FFB2908EB025B69C195E70354909
Vol 002 - 4608E40A99CC5D3A029DC3B3F91C33AF
Vol 003 - D13859C1EF693393A536773BCB29F164

No need to check all the digits. Just look at the first two or three and if they match then that volume will have been downloaded correctly.

If they all match then your install problems lie elsewhere.

Hope this helps and you soon get WAC 4.1 up and running.

I've just done a complete re-instalment. No luck.

Same symptom: the loading bar stops dead on 90%, then after about 4 or 5 minutes, a message from the OS tells me that the installation has stopped responding and that a solution, if found, will be sent to me.

I loaded SH3 GWX 3 into this new machine without any problem at all. With SH4, however, I had big problems: only the intro video played and then there was only a black screen, but with sound, instead of the menu screen.

Microsoft claims that you have to install a virtual Windows XP program to get SH4 and some other games running. However, after searching the Internet for an answer to my problem, I found out that if you load SH4 with the NVidia settings on minimum, then the game would install itself, after which installation, the NVidia settings can be adjusted to taste.

I don't think the downloaded files are corrupted. I'm pretty sure it's Windows 7 "incompatibility" program that's at fault. You see, in order to download Windows Virtual XP pprogram, you have to have an OS no lower than Windows 7 Home Premium (if I'm not mistaken), and that means that I should have to buy a Windows 7 update as my OS is the Home Basic that came already installed in my PC.

Well, I didn't buy an update to get SH4 running: here's hoping that I shall be just as successful in installing SH3 WAC 4.1 as I was in eventually installing SH4 with Real Fleet Boat and Run Silent Run Deep supermods.

Do you use the original .exe file from DVD or the no-dvd .exe file.
I aks because the WinVista / Win7 patch won´t work with the original dvd .exe file.

EDIT: It is no problem of Win7.. at least it can be solved with the patch because it works for me and several others.
Maybe you did not apply the patch regularly or it is because of the russian Win7 version... but I doubt that!

That might just be the root cause of the problem, HanSolo. I' m using the .exe file from the DVD, which DVD, by the way, is an SHIII v 4.1 that I bought in England in 2007.

I agree with you, in that I hardly think that the Russian Windows 7 OS is the cause of the problem: it's surely the patching that's at fault.

I may have downloaded corrupt files, but I also hardly think so: this is the third full instalment from a vanilla SHIII that I have made, although I'll check my latest downloaded WAC files as Cheapskate has advised.

I must have patched wrongly.

I shall report back on my progress.

No luck so far.

I followed cheapskate's advice and used the hash check tool, which he kindly provided me the link to, and all the downloaded WAC files are in order.

I then downloaded an SHIII 4.1b no-dvd crack and replaced the original .exe file that came with my vanilla SHIII that I bought in England. I then applied the WinVista/Win7 patch.

Then on loading for my first 1939 patrol outward bound from Wilhelmshaven, the loading bar reaches 90% exactly, only considerably slower than before, then hangs for 5 minutes, after which I get a message telling me that the program has ceased to function.

I am now about to do yet another complete re-installation.

I apologize if you knew that already, but you said you did different installments, LSH f.x. So... Did you delete the SH3 - folder in your own documents ( that is where your carrier is in ). That could be a reason to stop WAC from starting because of an LSH - SH3 still existing

I did that, for sure - or at least I thought I had.

I have just been uninstalling SH3 WAC in order to do yet another clean reinstallation and used CCleaner: I even checked regedit to see if there were any SH3 files left lurking in the system; for for some reason or other, I know not why, I decided to check my games folder, which I always keep on my D-drive. There, to my great surprise, I found a full installation of SH3 in in the Ubisoft folder that also holds my SH4 files, even though I thought I had rid the system of all SH3 files.

Why it was there I cannot fathom out: I think it might have been something to do with the LSH installation I did a couple of days ago: it could be that the LSH modded SH3 wasn't correctly deleted, or even not deleted at all before I decided to take a look at WAC, which I only came across for the first time the other day.

I installed SH3 WAC and ran the training school: I was highly impressed with the the WAC modifications that I saw and experienced whilst loosing a couple of eels into the target ships. It was 4 o'clock in the morning when I was doing all this and I had not slept for 19hours...

I think that this LHS installation and the undeleted SH3 files that I have just found must surely be the cause of my problems.

I will keep you all informed of further developments.

If you had running LSH, WAC should do as well. So it would not be a OS problem. It could use some more CPU than LSH. That is my impression. But for some (in)compatibility reasons between the SuperMODS, you have to have a clean fresh sh3 1.4 installation first. With nothing left from sooner installations.

If you want a dual- tripple- or even more installations of SH3 on the same machine, that is possible, too. It' s just a tool called "multiSH3" and some careful readings.

Again - nothing! A full re-installation and the loading of the first patrol again stops at 90%.

I have tried the 1.4b patch. After downloading and opening it, I read that it updates version 1.0 to 1.3.

Why? It's a 1.4b patch, isn't it?

I have tried to apply the 1.4b patch but always get the message that my DVD is not recognised.

My DVD is version 1.4.

As regards the instructions for the WinVista/Win7 patch, I am not quite sure whether the patch is operating correctly. I have downloaded this patch three times and have followed these instructions:

1. Run the exe "4gb_patch.exe".
2. Browse to your Silent Hunter folder and select sh3.exe. This app will create a backup of it and will patch the executable.
3. Click OK to close.

I presumed that the first instruction means left click twice 4gb_patch.exe. When I did this a window appeared bearing the same content as the opened patch file, namely 4gb_patch.exe, a backup of the .exe file and a text doc. Vista_Win Patch. If I left click this .exe file that appears in the new window, I receive the message: "Couldn't open executable."

I guess I presumed wrongly.

So I placed the patch in my SHIII folder and then left clicked it. Then I got a message that the patch had worked.

But the instructions say that I should browse to the SHIII folder and select sh3.exe etc.

I'm doing something very wrong here.

Any advice?

I bought a pirate copy of SHIII in Moscow in 2005: vitrtually all DVDs in Russia are pirate copies even if it is claimed that they are not. I used to use that pirated DVD until I quite by chance had the opportunity to buy a genuine SHII version 1.4 in England.

I shall now load the pirated SHIII (if I can find it) and see if I have any luck in modifying it to WAC 4.1 and installing it on my PC.

I could not instal the pirated DVD SHIII that I bought in Moscow as I now recall throwing it away after the disc had cracked.

I have re-installed yet again my genuine SHIII 4.1 DVD that I bought in England and downloaded the so-called 1.4b update from the web. This update is entitled "Silent Hunter III US DVD v1.0 t0 v1.3 Update Program". (Why? I thought it was a v1.4b update.)

Affter launching this program, I receive this message:

"This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III US DVD v1.0 to v1.3 because of the following reason:

D:\Games\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\de_menu .txt: unknown version."

Apart from the fact that my installed SHIII is v1.4, it was also bought in Europe. Clearly that's one reason why the US DVD cannot update my DVD. Is this also something to do with the absence of the Hakenkreuz in the European version, I wonder?

Anyway, I shall now try to find a Silent Hunter European DVD 1.4b update program and see what happens.

That figures, because the SHIII DVD that I have was bought in England only 3 years ago and is already v1.4.

I have been told above by HanSolo, however, that WAC only works with a patched .exe file and not with the .exe file that was purchased with the disc.

There must some way around this problem!

There have been two other contributors to this thread who have also had to give up trying to load WAC into their PCs; those contributors are both Russian.

Hard though I still find it to believe, there remains now only one possible reason for my inability to load SHIII WAC 4.1: my Win7 OS is a Russian version.

Yes, I followed the commands meticulously several times over. Each attempted instalment still failed at a 90% load bar reading though.

What I wrote above in my last posting was done in a mood of deep frustration: I still cannot believe that my failed installations are due to the fact that my Win7 OS is Russian. That just does not make sense.

To make matters even worse last night, having given up all hope of ever installing a WAC 4.1 modded SHIII into my Win7 machine, I decided to re-install my GWX3 Gold modded SHIII. I began, therefore, by making a clean SHIII v4.1 vanilla installation.

Disaster! My vanilla SHIII stopped loading at a 90% load-bar reading! I tried and tried again and again to install SHIII but it was the same old story as it had been with the WAC modded SHIII. And for three weeks I have been playing SHIII GWX3 Gold on my new computer, having installed the subsim without any problem at all, making a nonesense, therefore, of any belief that the Russian version of Win7 that I have is at fault.

Late last night, however, I think I may have hit on a lead to the cause of my problems . Browsing well into the small hours, I found this site:

It seems that many others are experiencing exactly the same problem (90% stoppage) as I am when trying to install SHIII into Win7, and the culprit seems to be Starforce.

The thing that still puzzles me, however is this: why was I able to install SHIII modded with GWX in the first place without all this hassle?

Where and when did Starforce get into the act?

I was unaware that Starforce was lurking there in my machine; I certainly have had no evidence of that until now.

I still think that the Win7 compatibility program has more than a little to do with this matter together with the fact that I have also been playing around with the NVidia and Nhancer settings: it was through groping in the dark, as it were, with these settings that finally allowed me to install SHIV, even though Microsoft said that that game was incompatible with Win7 unless I updated my OS and then installed their virtual XP program.

I shall keep you all informed of further developments in this matter.

I have yet to make my aquaintance with Win 7, so I can't comment with any knowledge of this aspect of your problem.

However, I note you refer to having a UK DVD version which is already prepatched to 1.4b (although owing to a UBI typo this is shown as 1.3). Would this be the Focus Interactive version which shows the part no ESS632 on the DVD label?

If it is, then it definitely does not contain Starforce and does not need to be patched. Nor would it benefit from the application of any anti-Starforce measures.

I mention this only because I think the SF aspect may be muddying the waters - particularly in view of the fact that the previously working GWX version now fails to run. MontyL15 had a similar problem with his Vista install. See:-

From what I gather, Win7's memory usage is markedly different from XP and this could maybe give a problem with WAC which I think has a much higher memory overhead than GWX or LSH. This seems even more likely as you mentioned that you could run the Training missions on your original install.

Have you considered the possiblity of a dual boot Win7 & XP install? It seems that this could be a possible answer this type of problem - I've more or less decided on this approach when I get around to installing to my copy of Win 7 - there's no way I'm going to have it interfering with my versions of SH3...I've got eight of 'em!!!

I agree with you danasan: there might be somewhere in my PC the remnants of an LSH installation that I made three days ago together with the Starforce program that must have come with it.

If you recall, I only came across LSH and WAC the other day and I thought I should give these programs a try. I checked out LSH first: it worked fine: then I tried to load WAC: the rest is history.

Previously I had played SHIII GWX and SHIV without any hitches on my new PC, though I did at first have problems installing SHIV. A fresh OS instalation is surely the failsafe answer to all my troubles, but I don't really want to do this as my OS came installed with my Acer computer: I have no system discs, just Acer's back-to-default-button as it were.

I shall first check out your summary, the link to which you have very kindly posted, and see if I can find the source of my problems: a new OS installation will be my last resort, especially in view of what Cheapskate wrote above.

Cheapskate, you are spot on! The SHIII DVD that I have is in fact the Focus Interactive version ESS632 that you suspected I bought in the UK. So, as you say, the SF business may be confusing the issue.

I think I shall continue to play around with the NVidia and Win7 compatibility settings before I resort to an OS re-instalment. As I have mentioned earlier, this is what I did when installing SH4: at first SH4 would play the intro movie but gave only a black screen with music when the menu screen should have appeared. Then, after twiddling with NVidia and compatibility settings, I got it running.

I really don't think that SF pollution is causing the issues you are experiencing.

LSH doesn't contain it and neither does your DVD. It can't appear from nowhere!!!

If anything, I suspect that the anti Starforce measures are somehow upsetting Win 7.

Don't blame you for not wanting to reinstall your OS. This sort of thing isn't for the faint hearted - I'm more than apprehensive about setting up my dual boot system.

For now, my suggestion would be to go back to your original unpatched, unNoCD'd version of base SH3. At least you should be able to get GWX going!

Yeah, I agree. But I'm buggered because, for some inexplicable reason, my kosher DVD won't load now: at least my GWX modded DVD won't load.

I re-installed SHIII GWX last night, having given up the ghost on WAC, only to find that the GWX installation stops when 90% loaded, as did the WAC modded SHIII.

Assuming that you had it running before, then logically, it should load OK again assuming you start from the same base point, said he, stating the flaming obvious!!

What about an unmodded SH3 ....does that run OK?

Are you sure you removed all previous references to SH3 ( registry and your Documents and Settings save files) before last reinstall.?

How many versions of SH3 do you have currently and if multiples, have you got Multi SH3 set up correctly?

Yet again the WAC 4.6 modded SHIII failed to install after the loading bar had reached 90%.

I'm sure that the Starforce issue is, in my case, a red herring: there is no SF in my system - I am absolutely sure of that.

It must be a mismatch of the game settings with Win7. I am sure the answer lies in fine adjusting the NVidia specs: I had to do this to get SHIV up and running.

One major point though is how to install this Win7 patch. When I click the patch .exe, I get a window that shows me again the content of the patch file in which I have just clicked the patch .exe. I then browse to the SHIII .exe and click that to recieve a "patch successful" message.

Have I been following correct procedure?

I think not.

Have I rather to put the patch file into the SHIII folder before clicking the patch .exe file?

Actually the patch .exe file can be anywhere.. just start the .exe and choose the Sh3.exe file. That should be enough to get WAC working. nothing else to do!
Then it should work... it it does not... I don´t know why.

Typically the 90% loading problem is almost always a sign of Vista/Win7 problem in the campaign and the naval school works.

As long as you run Win 7 64bit, it should have been it. Have you still a clean vanilla SH3 which is functional? If so, I would make a copy of the whole thing (folder SilentHunter3) for backup and do not touch that... Just copy and paste somewhere.

It could be a good idea to use multiSH3 for testing LSH, GWX and so on. You should find it here:

If GWX and / or LSH works, it could be a case of corrupted WAC files when downloaded or enlarged.

I would try a MOD first, which you know of, that it once worked for you

I did a checksum of the downloaded WAC files after recieving the following message from Cheapskate in which he incliuded Caratio's identifiers for the files:


"A quick way to discover whether any of your downloads have been corrupted would be to use a hash check utility such as this one:-

After download (the button is at the end of the write-up), just run the exe file which will open up a window. Make sure Md5 is selected then simply drag each of the files (exactly as originally downloaded) in turn into the window. You should see a series of digits within a matter of seconds.

Carotio's download should show the following identifiers:-

Vol 001 - 9416FFB2908EB025B69C195E70354909
Vol 002 - 4608E40A99CC5D3A029DC3B3F91C33AF
Vol 003 - D13859C1EF693393A536773BCB29F164

No need to check all the digits. Just look at the first two or three and if they match then that volume will have been downloaded correctly.

If they all match then your install problems lie elsewhere.

Hope this helps and you soon get WAC 4.1 up and running."

According to the check utility that I downloaded on Cheapskate's advice, the WAC files that I have been using are all sound.

Ass I have said earlier, LSH worked for me, and GWX used to: it has not worked since my abortive attempts to load WAC. However, it may work now as I found out nearly three hours ago that SHIII still loads into he PC.

You went through the summary. So the "basics" are fine.

- Your WAC files are not corrupted. It is not a big deal to enable it from JSGME. Yes, WAC can break the "2GB RAM border", but that is what the 4GB Patch is for... And yes, it seems to me more CPU - intensive, but I run it on a Pentium Dual Core @ 2x 1,6 GHz with no problem at all. Oh, but WAC takes a long time to load, maybe up to 15 minutes!

I do not think, WAC is that different from the others regarding the TECHNIQUE, not the gameplay...

A long time ago, it could happen that Windows did not find the end of a file (EOF), until the drive was defragmented. But that is my last idea for the moment.

Would strongly advise against a redownload. The Md5 ' fingerprints ' all tally so there is nothing wrong with the files you already have.

Indeed you would not be getting as far as you are should any of them be corrupted - the volume would not even have decompressed.

You could try a defrag - it is certainly good practise to perform this after installing any large file. However I've still got the impression that memory problems are at the root of your difficulties.

Hope you have some luck soon !

PS Have just been reading a few threads on the Win 7 forums . Some of the guys on there seem to think that a reboot before running a large program seems to help. As does shutting down any large background tasks that aren't necessary for gaming.

That's what I've been thinking: if the files - any file - were corrupt, then they would not even have unpacked themselves. Furthermore, having reported that the missions section works, I have just found out that that is only partly true: I have since tried "Die Goldene Zeit" mission and it would not load.

The museums section did work when I first loaded the modded game: I didn't check all the items in the museum though.

So although my files have been checked and have proven themselves as uncorrupted, the evidence at least shows that they may be.

It's clutching at straws, I know, but I feel that I have no other choice but to download the files again and re-install.

Yes, rebooting is always a good idea after installing a large program and I've been doing just that.

As regards shutting down unnecessary background programs, I have installed in my machine "Advanced System Care Pro" and with this program is a little gizmo called "Game Booster" that does just that, namely shuts down all programs that are running in the background. I've never used it on this new machine: never really thought it was necessary. I shall give it a go now though.

Still no go eh! What a darned shame.

You mentioned a while earlier that the Happy Times single mission would not run. How long did you give it to start? I have just tried it out and find that it takes somewhere about 3 minutes 20 secs to initialise on my system. If I use the Blank Campaign mod (which only loads the data necessary for the mission):-

the time is reduced to about 34 secs. Maybe you would care to give this a try to see if it then will then run for you.

As a matter of interest, LSH 5 loads the same mission a full minute faster than WAC and 10 seconds faster when the blank campaign is applied.

This gives some idea of the extra memory overhead that WAC imposes. It may be an idea to temporarily unload WAC and replace it with something a little less demanding like GWX3. Or even, as Danasan suggests, make up another install and run them both using Multi SH3.

I don't follow, Cheapskate. Krabb's 4Gb patch? When and where do you have to type in a command using that patch?

As regards how long I waited for "Happy Times" to run: there was a CTD after about 4 minutes or so.

Apologies for any confusion caused by my misconception over the way Krabb's Vista/Win7 patch works. I was basing my comments on -

1) Krabb's post no 1129 (this thread):-

Did you execute the commands described in the readme (bcdedit etc.)?


2) Step 4 in the readme accompanying his download of same..... which I discovered that I'd obtained in the days when I thought Win7 would be able to handle SH3 without problem.

As I mentioned earlier I'm still using XP, although I've skimmed through Koroush Ghazi's excellent Tweaking Companion for Win7:-

Hello there,

as far as I can see, bcdedit etc is used when you run a 32bit OS because of the RAM adressing space limited to 2 GB for programs. If you have 4 GB, it gives only 2 GB to an app. It should not be needed with a 64 bit OS.

So, what is going on? Do you have a vanilla SH3 running?

danasan is right, bcdedit stuff is used on 32 bit OS. The instruction refers only to Vista, because Win7 hasn't been released yet when I was writing it. I have not tested Win7, but apparently, it (32 bit version) also requires you to enter these commands.

Ahoy there shipmates!

Yes, it was getting late in Moscow when I closed down my station just as the morning watch began, and it was already middle watch in Flensburg, Kassel, and East Saxon Land, where Cheapskate slings his hammock, when we were all signalling one another last night.

For those who may still not yet know, I got SHIII running last night, but try as I might, I could not get WAC to load.

I am pretty sure now that the root of the problem must be corrupted files. At first I had dismissed this idea, reasoning that if the files that I have downloaded had been corrupted, then they would not have unpacked themselves. However, not one hour ago I downloaded yet again the three WAC files from Caratio's site in order to start all over again, when I noticed that file .003 had a volume of 318 507KB, whereas danasan has stated that the volume of the third file should be 320 504 KB.

I was about to download file 3 yet again when I thought I should give it a try and see if the three files would unpack themselves: they did, the small file 3 volume notwithstanding.

I then transferred the unpacked WAC file into my mods folder, and tried to start the modded SHIII.

As usual, the loading bar stopped at 90% and after about 3 or 4 minutes there was a CTD.

Files .001 and .002 have the correct volume as stated by danasan. I shall try to download file .003 again. Hopefully, I shall receive a file with the correct volume.

To me it still sounds like the installation is going the wrong way.. putting archives in the jsme folder won´t chnage anything for Sh3.

here the installation order again:

Installation:

1. All files have to be from 1 server !!! (Filefront for example) http://hosted.filefront.com/HanSolo78/

2. Download and install 7-zip from http://www.7-zip.org/

3. Put all 3 archives (WarAceCampaign 4.1final_FULL_XP.z.001, WarAceCampaign4.1 final_FULL_XP.z.002, WarAceCampaign 4.1final#_FULL_XP.z.003 on the desktop

4. Left mouse click on the first part 001, then right mous click -> choose 7-zip ->extract files-> "ok"

5. Now there should be a folder called "WarAceCampaign 4.1_final FULL_XP" with a size of 4,30 GB, and 10.058 files

6. Enable the mod via ModEnabler and wait about 15-25 minutes (many files) or wait until your Harddisk LED is not lightning always

7. For WinVista/Win7 apply the 4GB Patch like described in the readme.

I notice in wac that the first person camera appears to have a light source attached to it - is this correct ? At the moment, at night, I notice a nice glow around the boat on the water surface and this mimics the incident light the boat would reflect in real life. Very immersive I have to say.

But I would like to 'tweak' this light source if possible to get the affect i've been looking for.....would you have a reference point for me to start of from ?

I believe you are absolutely correct, HanSolo.

I have just attempted to load WAC after having successfully opened an elevated Command prompt with administrator privileges as per the "Read Me" file in the Vista/Win7 patch.

Once again there was a CTD.

These files are just not being installed correctly or they are corrupted.

Here are some of my PC specifications:


RAM size 2.00 GB
DirectX version 4.09.00.0904
HDD - Windows partition 152 GB
HDD - Largest disk 320 GB
Video RAM 2 GB
Windows version Windows 7 (6.1.7600)
Regional settings Russian
Windows language Russian


You write about it just not being good enough trying to instal the mod simply by putting the archives into the jsme folder, adding that one must enable the mod via the ModEnabler. I agree with you entirely. But if by "ModEnabler" you mean the JScones Generic Mod Enabler v2.3.1.132, I have been doing just that all along.

Anyway, my file "WarAceCampaign_4.1_final_FULL_XP.7z.003" has just downloaded. I shall check its volume and report forthwith.

The just downloaded file .003 is the same volume as the previous one that I downloaded, namely 311 MB, which is not the correct volume as given at the beginning of this thread.

Hmm, I think you need more RAM, at least 3 GB. The 4 GB patch has no effect on systems with no more than 2 GB of memory.

Let me explain: I don't have a problem. Although I do have a copy of Win7 ultimate I have not tried to install it yet. At the moment I am still using XP and I don't intend running SH3 on anything else. When I do install Win7 it will only be used for programmes which I'm sure are completely compatible with it.

My comments to Moscowexile were intended to help him in some way to solve his difficulties. It seemed to me that the symptoms he reports indicate a memory problem. I was looking for ways in which this may have occurred.

Unfortunately I looked at Krabb's patch and totally misconstrued how it worked. Hence my uninformed comments. Sorry about the confusion.

Note you have decided to go the redownload route. Haven't got anything much to say about the integrity of Carotio's mirror except that my install was based on an identical file set to the the one you initially downloaded (including the 311mb vol003). It works perfectly. I have no problem whatsoever in starting a career. All elements, Museum, Training and Single Missions (including Happy Times) load and run without problem.

WAC 4.1 seems to be the most stable and smoothest running version ever and I've been using it since version 2.1. The only problem I've had is difficulty in getting out of Wilhelmshaven without colliding with the dock gates. :rotfl2: If corruption is an issue then surely I would have suffered the same problems as you are getting?

Anyhow, I wish you well with your endeavours to get it running. Your persistence is admirable and deserves a far better reward than a partially functioning WAC.

BTW, I hope I'm not going to be up on a fizzer for being late on watch today. :salute:

I shall buy some RAM tomorrow.

I really thought that when I bought this new rig of mine three weeks ago, I should have enough RAM for the foreseeable future, but it seems that WAC's demands are far in excess of what I had expected.

This PC handles Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 and 2 with ease, likewise Call of Duty World at War, Batman Arkham Asylum and the myriads of unfortunate Roman legionaries that regularly get their comeuppance off hordes of hairy arsed barbarians that lurk for them in the dark Teutonic forests of Europa Barbarorum; with War Ace Campaign, however, my computer RAM, it seems, is strained beyond its limits.

Be that as it may, these huge memory demands that WAC has only whets my appetite even more for setting out on my first patrol with this program.

Having at last decided to give up all hope of ever installing WAC v4.1 into my PC at least until I have installed more RAM into the machine, I set about making a clean installation of SHIII and then added to it the GWX3 supermod. I finished the installation and launched the modded game: CTD at 90% loading.

It was working fine 3 days ago before I decided to change to WAC, and vanilla SHIII also works.

What the hell has happened?

Of course it is very frustrating not getting the game to run with the mods you want to play... I hope you will get it running some day... I wish you all the luck :88).

As I created WAC4.0 I also had problems getting this version running on Vista64 but I could solve out all the problems with 4.1 and the 4GB Patch. For me it runs now on XP32 Bit, Vista64Bit with 4GB of Ram and Win764Bit with 3GB of Ram.

Really sad but maybe you can take parts of WAC4.1 for you SH3 installations.
At the moment I am working on some new subpen life, which will be ready in some days, I think.

My last idea on this irritating thing is the following:

1. Have a clean vanilla SH3 (running)

2. Overwrite it with an existing (running) WAC installation. I know that works for me, because I just tested. WAC itself does not touch the registry. Just copy and past...

So, the WAC fittes onto a double layer dvd.

If you are interested in that, drop me a PM, it won't cost you anything.

I last wrote that having given up hope of installing WAC, I had gone back to GWX, only to find that GWX now no longer loads into the PC, whereas earlier yesterday I had determined that vanilla SHIII could still be loaded.

Having stowed my hammock this morning, I just could not believe that my failed attempts at WAC installation could have had anything to do with this annoying situation; then suddenly I realised the likely cause of my problem: when I was last back in my home port several days ago with GWX, I installed a ship mod that turned out to be GWX incompatible. I then made the happy discovery of two new SHIII supermods - LSH and WAC - and decided to give them a try. LSH worked fine: WAC gave me a host of problems.

When I at last gave up the ghost last night as regards installing WAC, I reinstalled GWX together with the last GWX mod folder that I had backed up, which folder still contained the incompatible mod that I had forgotten about and not deleted when I was docked at St. Nazaire. I have just deleted that GWX incompatible mod and am now outward bound from Wilhelmshaven for a training cruise around Helgoland.

I still feel that I can get WAC up and running on this machine of mine. I shall install more RAM into it - one cannot have too much RAM, I believe; as I have written earlier, this rig handles with ease several games that are very demanding graphics-wise.

What I found out is:

Remember the 4 GB patch is only for machines with MORE than 2 GB of RAM. And it is NOT made for Windows XP, only for VISTA and WIN 7!

If you install the 4GB Patch, but having only 2 GB of RAM, it seems that SH3 will ALWAYS CTD after that. I could prove that on only one machine so far. I had to backup the whole windows after that. I was lucky to have an image. But I think SH3 will not work for you as long as Windows is not reinstalled.

Edit: I, of course, tried to owerwrite the patched SH3.exe with a fresh one, it did not work for me...

I had a similar problem.

My game did always crash after 90% loading when i tried to play the campaign wheras I had not any problems with the tutorial missions, I did use the Win7/Vista Patch and installed the mod correct. My win7 system has 4gb ram but i still had this issue.

After i googled a bit i did find a solution for this problem, at least i can play now the game hell even the campaign :up:


Here is the solution which did help me:

After you have installed the mod (WAC 4.1) and patched the .exe with the WAC win7/Vista patch open your windows command console (cmd) in administration mode and write the following. After you get a successfull message in the console, restart your system.


bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2900


I did find some infos but those are german pages (maybe you can google translate it), you should google for this command line so you know what does it changes and why it helps to start the game.

Yeah i did find out it is written in the patch readme not in the mod readme, seems like i did miss that.

Sure! The 4Gb Patch ist a must have for WinVista / Win7! Otherwiese WAC4.1 won´t work. But again... another hint... the 4Gb Patch might possibly not work with the original DVD exe.

I have a problem with the Kield OUT auto plot.

I ask the nav officer to plot it when i'm exactly on the blue dot in the lock. The resulting plot shape has the right profile for the kanal but doesn't follow the blue water exactly such that some parts of it go over land. it looks like it needs shifting to the left a little.

Now this coudl be due to a mod conflict as I tested last night with:

WAC
MaGui for Wac
MaGui Fix for WAC
Open Hatch
Open Hatch fix for MaGui
Open Hatch fix for WAC

Any ideas anyone ?
If not then where is the data for this plot and i'll attempt to fix it myself ?

I noticed in the last version, that the warrant officers and officers didn't have uniforms...this wasn't something that tickled my fancy...is it possible for them to wear their uniforms in the new version? As I rather like seeing their decorations....

I don't think it's an update, it looks just like what came with 4.1. If I am not mistaken, that is in Wilhelmshaven.

Ahoy there, shipmates!

After having suffered several weeks' frustration in trying to install SHIII WAC into my W7 X32 Home Basic OS, I am pleased to say that I have finally succeeded in getting the modded SHIII up and running.

In my case, the answer to the problem seems to have been applying the Vista 4Gb patch that comes with the WAC package. I had earlier applied this patch, but I mustn't have done it correctly, which error caused me to go off on a wild goose chase for a couple of weeks. Also, I was mistaken when I reported that my OS had a 2Gb RAM: it has a 4 Gb RAM - that was one reason I chose to buy this new rig of mine. But when I was advised on the forum that applying the 4 Gb patch to a 2 Gb RAM OS could cause problems, I was wary of applying that patch again. Having at last realised that my RAM was, after all, a 4Gb one, I applied the patch once again and correctly.

I also think that one has to install games in W7 using administrator's authorisation as well as running the game in Windows XP SP2 mode: I did so, and this action could have helped get me up and running as well.

Thanks to everybody for their help in getting me to sea again.

And congratulations to all involved in making such a wonderful mod. I have sailed off on a training patrol out of Wilhelmshaven and am now passing along the Kiel Canal on my way to the Baltic. The graphics are so out of this world that I am even suffering a little homesickness for Das Vaterland! I might even just jump ashore for a quick Holsten Pils before rejoining my crew further along the canal.

I tested nearly all the mods except LSH3 (but somebody says its very similar to wac) I’ll say WAC Super Plus Mod. Great Job. :salute:
But I have a problem with the long loading time to start game. It is nearly 15 minutes. Do you have any solution?

This is normal. Only thing you can do is get a super fast computer. WAC is over 4GB, it takes a while to load all those files. Also, the more mini mods you add on top of WAC will further increase loading times. Only thing I can suggest, is while it's loading, go make yourself a snack or make a beer run. :yeah:

As the saying goes, "Good things are worth waiting for", and WAC is definitely worth the wait. :salute:

Did you install the 4GB patch ? I know you have 4GB of RAM, but Windows still needs to be told to run any higher than 2 or 3GB (I forget which).

Also, have you tried starting a patrol at the beginning of the war to see if loads ok that way ?

Thanks Tuddley, yes 39,40,41 career starts seem to be working, haven't tested all flotillas but my problems start after 1942.
I thought the 4gb patch was for vista, I'll give that a go and do some more tests today.

Ok, I just did a reinstall of WAC and the late war campaign starts are ok :up:
Something must have gone haywire during installation.

I just found out something weird. Last weekend I had to re-install Windows, which fixed a lot of problems I was having. Some of these problems were related to what other people are having (not just the Silent Hunter community). One of them is the problem with SH3 Cmdr not working with WAC 4.1. So I decided to check it out before I get to involved in patrols, and it works now.

FYI, another problem it fixed is the latest problem with Firefox 3.6 not closing all the way, and having to kill the process with the Task Manager. All these problems are common between many, so there my be some kind of virus or something that is causing this to happen between so many people.

Plus, I am not suggesting everyone to re-install Windows, I just thought this might be some interesting information to share with all of you.

BTW, less than 24 hours to go for the Daytona 500 :yeah::woot:

I try to fix that problem since the begining and today i found something. I did every thing with patch for win 7 and when i activate the mod with jsgme i open that one as administrator and finaly campaing and mission now working. I hope it will help some person.

I finished my first mission at K38, sunk two ships :oops: and turn back to Brest. Then I begin to second mission, left from port and saved game yesterday night. I load the game today and my hydrophone is not working. Wheel does not turn. Anyone can help to me? Because I cannot fight without hydrophone. :wah:

After loads of testing I can confirm that both MEPv3 plus MEP Sensors for WAC4.1 plus animated sub pens work on a medium spec (but beefy when built 2 years ago) PC and 2GB RAM.

Now to test with WB's WAC4.1 with VonDros' ships v1.9

Unfortunately a bug only with type VII which I can´t solve.

Hello all first of all fantastic mod great work. i've noticed after playing a saved game that the dials in the control room are way out of wack every dial is wrong and not working. it's playable coz i use the slide out dials but from an immersive point of view it detracts somewhat. anybody got any ideas im running wac 4.1 wac 16k and realistic hull damage thats it

I shall use GWX until my extra 2GB of memory arrives - then i'll remove XP Pro, reformat and install Windows 7.

Hopefully then i'll be able to play WAC again.:smug:

Have you tried the boot.ini 3 GB switch ? It won't help with dials problem and the others, but the CTD's should stop happening. I've also noticed other games work better (Like Flight Sim X) with this switch modification.

Thanks for the reply Tuddley....but I've never had these type of problems before with games or indeed SH3 mods so I suspect I simply don't have enough memory resources.

I'm sure a complete reinstall of XP is long overdue....but I'm gonna upgrade to Windows 7 when the memory comes and start all over again.

No, unfortunately there is no harbour traffic lite mod available.
To reduce the traffic just assign the ships you want to delete and delete the ships in the mission editor with the "del key". Now save as scr_layer file, not just only use save as it won´t work and the ME will give out errors.

Is there another Lite Traffic mod than the GWX one? If you plug that into WAC you'll also be using all of GWX's campaign files, and you'll end up with one heck of a mess.

Please try first to run WAC4.1 without additional mods... if everything runs ok, then you have to use teh 4GB patch to allow Sh3 to use more than 2Gb Ram.
Otherwise FM Interior won´t run with WAC4.1.
I have it running with my sub pens and the interior.

Can´t anything say to Manos GUI, but I guess it should be compatible.

You can get the patch from my FF page.. and I also advice you to get my sub pen mod from the same page as it contains some notes for Win 32 Bit users who have to do some system tweaking.

You have to do 2 things:

1. make a Win tweak

2. patch the Sh3.exe file

Both changes can be made undone.

What I noticed is, that appearently the name for the periscopes have been switched:

When you select the Attack Periscope (F3), the name that appears on the top left corner is "Luftzielsehrohr" and when you select the Observation Periscope (O), the name in top left corner is "Angriffssehrohr".

Is there any way to fix this?
