![]() As far as I know it happened twice. Scapa Flow was almost impossible, and only happened because Admiral Doenitz planned it personally with the help of aerial photography. Following the attack the British reinforced the entrances to the harbor, and after that time any British base should be impossible to penetrate. The other was by Werner Hartenstein in U-156. He observed the harbor at Aruba for several days before deciding it was relatively undefended and making his decision to go ahead with the attack.
