With a bit ginger growth....so you should be :O:

I used to have ginger bits too, fortunately I had a job where I had to shave every day (~ish), now I'm fortunate enough to have silver bits instead of ginger.

And instead of brown.

My parents gave me a couple of old photos of me and a girlfriend from 17 years ago from Xmas 1994 (I'm sure), just to prove I had brown hair, and during a phase where obviously advertising and peer-pressure were more important than taste (the beer, not the girl!).

OMG, why did you do this?

Why did you post a picture with American Budweiser? I worked for years to tell the Yanks that we don't drink the horsepee they sell under the name Bud in Europe, only the real stuff, from Budvar.
And now you destroyed everything....:wah::wah::wah:
Please say that you only bought those packs to throw full cans from the roof at American tourists. :yep:

(Serious) congrats to the long relationship, btw, looks like you were made for each other.
I am very mild today and don't start on your Seinfeldish look:O: - as long as I haven't post a pic of me from 94, I am sitting in the glasshouse ;)

Hi guys :O:

12-30-11, 06:16 PM
At the suggestion of Sailor Steve, a short bio.
User name: u crank. I had to be honest.
Real name: CLASSIFIED.
Reason: Witness Protection.:hmmm::nope::03:
Will answer to Marc.
I was born in Toronto, Canada, the day the Korean War started. I swear I had nothing to do with it. Runs in the family, my first born arrived on Dec. 7. Lived entire childhood on military bases in this great land. Air force brat. Now live on small island on east coast which I've agreed to share with others. Worked in construction for years, now in cabinet shop. High school drop out, but I'm drawn to intelligent thinkers. You know, like you guys. Married some 36 years to the most understanding woman on this planet. Two adult kids and one grandson.
Have always liked history, naval warfare and U boats. Don't fully understand the attraction to the last one. Must be their fate. Tragic but honourable. I love an underdog. Hope to post on this in the New Year.
Why I love Subsim: It's a community that includes teenagers and old geezers , male, female, super smart and not so smart, such as I. You are helpful, but like a good laugh. I think that's cool.
Well, like my kids say," Dad you're rambling. Let someone else talk."
To everybody at Subsim the very best in the New Year :Kaleun_Cheers:

How did I find Subsim? Well, I staggered in looking for beer and *WHAM*... a giant styrofoam anchor fell on my head and knocked me out cold. New to Subsim and computer games. Picked up SH4 in December and have been lost in the Pacific ever since. My name is Robert, originally from Los Angeles and moved to Atlanta area in Ga.

Retired from the USPS and now play bass in a rockabilly band. I have been around music all my life. I grew up listening to English wave music. I first saw the Who @ Hlywd Bowl in 1967 and got hooked.

I'm still having trouble navigating around in Subsim. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if people can contact me in here or by e-mail. Haven't figured out how to download a photo.

Any help on how to use protractor and compass to determine bearings would be a blessing! Totally lost with SH4 and it's manual. Just another Sod Pounder!

Are you playing SH4 with any mods? There are some great ones out there in the SH4 mod section. I'm in the process of re-discovering SH4. Hello to everyone...fright52 here, but I also go by Robert. Grew up watching anything sci-fi/horror and, Halloween being my favorite holiday, is how I came about with "fright". Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA., but recently relocated to Atlanta metro Georgia. Big change but change is a good thing.
Art major, retired from the USPS, and now persue music. Have played music in vintage country and rockabilly bands.
I consider myself a modern day Frankenstein after my liver transplant in 2007. I am very fortunate to be given a second chance here on planet Earth. A special thanks goes out to one particular doctor, Dr Mello; and to my wonderful wife Chris, for keeping me alive!
As for computer games, I'm pretty new at all of this. I stumbled into SH4 by doing research on submarines for a model of a Gato sub I have been building in honor of my recently deceased father in law. He served on 3 subs and never got around to building Revells Gato model kit he purchased.
With all of that, sorry I rambled on. Time to say thanks for a great site and make every day a day to remember. Cheers!

That is very cool, Tchocky. Air traffic controller, I guess that means very good payments and early retirement.

You successfully went through the selection procedure to become an air traffic controller, which means that your national security authority gave you security clearance.

Good to know. :-)

A quick few words, mostly to say "Hi" and "Thanks in advance" :)

I've worked in the IT business all my adult life and since my early teens have been working with computer hardware and software in one fashion or another. Long-time sim fan, predominantly of aircraft (FS1.00 was where it all started for me, for those with long enough memories) and also fan of pretty much anything with an engine :)

Surfed in to sub-sim thanks to having bought SH5 (my first sub-product since EA's 688(I) Hunter Killer many years ago and the original 688 Attack Sub before that) and found it to be, er, lacking a little in some areas.

Hope I didn't buy a lemon :88)

Welcome to Subsim, wikkus! :salute:

I might have watched a friend fly around in FS 1. He had a black and white monochrome monitor. I thought it was the coolest thing back then. :haha: I bought my first copy of Flight Simulator early in high school, when Windows 3 reigned supreme. Have always loved flight simulators. Tried a submarine simulator about a year ago and wound up here. Haven't been able to jump ship since. :)

I haven't played SH5 myself but have sort of watched it grow since release. If you ask around in the SH5 forum about any problem you encounter, I'm sure you will get the answers you need. From what I've heard a lot of things have been fixed and some things are still being fixed, but overall the folks who love the game have found something to keep them entertained. Can't be all bad, then. :yep:

Just offering a quick hello to the community.

I am a 34 year old from Australia. I am a mature age university student studying history and political science, and my submarine knowledge comes largely through books and games. Unfortunately I was unable to join the Australian Navy, so I missed out on the chance to experience these things first hand. My submarine game experience dates back to 688 Attack Sub on the Sega Genesis, and I have played a number of other sims over the years. I still find the Silent Hunter series to be my favourite, and I have just joined the community in order to find out more about my latest purchase, SH4.

Look forward to crossing paths with everyone on the forums.

airshows at Rockford are always great, the last time I went was 2010 and we were treated to the thunderbirds, an A-10 warthog demonstration, a harrier demonstration, and a heritage flight featuring the F-4 phantom. not to mention the B-52 parked on the tarmac and the Boeing Dreamliner. it was impressive to say the least and I think it was 15 bucks a person.

EDIT: come to think of it there was an F/A-18 demo too. lots of stunt flying, barnstorming ....

And you say I have bad jokes! I admit my one-liners are for cheap Humor and a funny jab. And thanks for the welcome..Eh?
And here's another joke!..And Oh yes there will be More..:D

Two women go out one weekend without their husbands. As they came back, just before dawn, both of them drunk, they felt the urge to pee. They noticed that the only place to stop was a cemetery. Scared and drunk, they stopped and decided to go there anyway.

The first one did not have anything to blot herself with, so she took her panties off, used them and discarded them. The second, not finding anything either, thought "I'm not getting rid of my panties..." so she used the ribbon of a nearby flower wreath.

The morning after, the two husbands were talking to each other on the phone, and one says to the other: "We have to be on the look-out; it seems that these two were up to no good last night, my wife came home without her panties..." The other one responded: "You're lucky, mine came home with a card stuck on her butt that read, "We will never forget you."

And your right, they'll say the same joke in a month! Jim and bossmark might be running out of material for the horrid jokes they make!:har:

Well, I started last July 1 with a shaved head, and was going to post one every month for a year. I did a couple and got sidetracked. I've had some taken by other people that kind of filled in. Now it's a year later and it's grown some six inches, which is normal.

I'm debating whether to shave it again or just trim it, or maybe leave it alone and let it keep growing. In any case, the glare on the glasses made me take one without them.

Hi!
The first posting to this forum, although I have followed the forum for 3-4 years.
The first dives made some years (about 20y) ago for 688 Attack Sub and then silent service II. First real love was aces of the deep. Then little bit later sh1 and now shIII (since the appearence ). Sh IV and Sh V are waiting of stock.

About me: selling and repairing computers for a living ( 10 years now).
Gratuated fisherman/fishfarmer but there was not job for me so now in IT.
( but there is a love of the sea from)

Kittilä to the sea is about 266 km.

Thats little info at me, but all the tnx for this forum and all the modders to make the games better:salute:

Hi all, Raised in Denver, spent first 21 years after school as a MM(SS) on varous boats out of Norfolk, then SD. Boats I was assigned, 2 688s, a 637, and a 688i. Spent a lot of time plotting dots as section tracking and Battlestations. Enjoyed it as it got me out of the engineroom and was nice to see what was actually going on besides answering the ordered bell. One of the my ships Weapons Officer actually used Janes 688 to run training on the section tracking party and the ships control party. How about that for realistic simulation!

I actually stumbled across Subsim a long time ago when I first started playing Silent Hunter II back in 2003. I just went through a few old boxes of mine and found my old copy of Silent Hunter III that I have not played in several years. I decided to install the game on my computer, and remember that I had heavily modded Silent Hunter II and III when I played them long ago. I was unable to remember my old account since it's been over 6 years since I last played so I created a new account. I am looking forward to playing again, checking out all the new mods, and getting back into the Submarine game genre once again.

Gentlemen (and Ladies)...

Figures. I rush into a forum without so much a how-do-you-do.

I'm a 41ish male with too much gut and too little hair on top, 2 kids, a dog and a wife.

Civilian-wise, I work for an engineering firm as CAD technician (fancy title for draftsman) with occasional forays on survey field crews if I'm lucky. Been doing this for a million years now, it feels.

Military-wsie, I've been in the Reserves and Guard in one form or another since '96 and with the exception of the HQ MP Company I was with up to last year, I've always been in an engineer specific type of unit; first as a Fuel Supply Specialist, then Heavy Equipment Operator and now I'm an Engineer Assistant with a REDHORSE Reserve unit. Oh, and I'm talking just Army and Air Force branches too.

Hobby-wise, I play computer sims mostly (duh) with a sprinkling of FPSes and the odd "strategy," game thrown in. I also dabble in pen-n-paper roleplaying stuff as I refuse to give up all of my nerdy youth habits.

I stumbled across SubSim by accident honestly. I think I was Googling "WW1 Subs," or something which led me to the Shells of Fury review and thence to the forum side of the house. Now, I got the aforementioned Shells as well as Silent Hunter 4 sitting beside my beloved flight sims and I can't wait to play hooky this week from work...er...to really have some time to sit down with SH4 and get cookin'. Probably in my underwear with some beer, too. Risky Business style.

You guys look like you have fun with a minimum of fuss and that's okay by me.

I don't take any pictures really. There aren't many that exist outside family albums. There's only two that I know of that are posted online. I'd have to do some digging to find a good picture of me.

I'll post one of my favorites of me though.

This was from one of my favorite days of all time...The September Cape Girardeau Airport Open House...

That's me in the back. I loved that thing. A Gyrocopter company came out and gave rides. Once we got off the ground, the pilot asked me if I wanted a go. So, I flew that thing for about 30 minutes.

Cool enough. I just thought that if one is going to comment on someone's picture one should give an equal chance. Cell phones work.

Still, that is a cool shot and I envy you a little. I've taken lots of rides in lots of vehicles, but never a gyrocopter.

Well...let me tell you what you've missed....

You missed the "Motorcycle of the Air"....the Gyrocopter....

If you ever get a chance to go up in one...take it... As you can see, I'm a tall guy. I was slouching in that picture. I had to duck down to get behind that little windscreen. It was probably one of the top 3 things I've ever done. I loved it. I didn't have any instruments in the back seat but there was the stick and the throttle. I had fun. At one point, over the Mississippi River, I peeked over the pilot into the front seat to see the instruments. We were some 1500 feet over the river. It was AWESOME!!!:rock::rock: I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Hell...If you gave me a choice between the girl I like and flight...I'd go running to the aircraft smiling like a little kid in a candy store.... (After maybe sneaking a solution to the other choice when you aren't looking.... :03: )

The Air Show is coming back to that airport this summer...I can't wait. Last time they had the Air Show here I got all the Blue Angels Autographs, but, I missed the A-10 Warthog flights they had going on. I got the A-10 Pilot's autograph though. This summer, there is supposedly going to be a B-25, TBM Avenger, and L-3 coming along with all the usual awesome flight stuff.

I actually was looking into Flight School earlier today. (EXPENSIVE!!!! :o :o :o And you thought car gas was bad...the cheapest fuel at my local airport is $5.34 a gallon. Plus the cost of training, insurance, the plane, space at the airport, etc...)There's a local college with a great Aviation program and I'm thinking that if the Air Force doesn't work for me I'll go to college and be a pilot. That, or the Army... :arrgh!:

Actually, he's so pathetic that his hand snapped off when I tried to put a weapon in it :dead:

That why he's standing with his hands on his hips?

I always liked Spartan Armor. My favorite was the E.V.A Armor from Halo 3 and Halo Reach.

While I can't say nay to that, I have to defer to Neil Armstrong, who once said the next best thing to flying a jet fighter was riding a good motorcycle. While I haven't flown a jet either, I've ridden some pretty good bikes in my time. Unless you've done that as well your comparison might be stretching things a bit. I've driven some fairly fast cars too, and 150 mph on the ground is a fair bit of excitement.

I don't question your enthusiasm, especially since it does look like a lot of fun. Just the comparison.

I have been up in an ultralight, and I have flown a hang glider. Also fun.

The term "Motorcycle of the Air" was what the MagniFlight people kept telling me it was. I've never ridden on a motorcycle but if it's like the Gyrocopter...I'm sure i'd like it.

I'm sure you would. I got my learner's permit at 16. When I read the part that said "May drive an automobile, but must have a licensed driver in the car at all times. May ride a motorcycle, but may not have anyone else on the bike", I said "Dad, you know that little 50cc Honda you bought to drive to work and never did?..."

I never looked back. That little bike and I were constant companions. When my six months were up I renewed the permit rather than get my license. Six months later I had a girlfriend, and had to finally drive a car.

Several years ago a friend had to move to another city just for a couple of months. He asked if I would look after his Honda Shadow while he was gone, and ride it every now and then to keep it from garage rot. I rode it to work one day. The warehouse assistant manager said "Steve, I didn't know you rode!"

I said "I'll bet I was riding before you were born."

He said "I doubt that. When did you start riding?"

"April 1966."

He stared at me for a minute and said "You beat me by one month."

Just last night I was looking at bikes online. I was checking out insurance and one company asked "How many years' riding experience?"

I was a little embarrased when I typed "47". :dead:

Red October1984

I was a little embarrased when I typed "47". :dead:

:har: That's funny. I haven't even ridden a normal bike in a few years....Once I started growing fast...My bike couldn't keep up. So I grew out of it fast. I've heard of some bad things to come from motorcycles and I've heard of some awesome things.

I don't know what to think. The Permit system for Motorcycles is different now than it was 47 years ago i'm sure. Bikes sound fun...but cars are just fine.

Still hoping to get a Mustang... :sunny: and maybe my pilot's license and a small plane....

There's a 1965 Cessna 172 for sale at my airport for $35,000... :D :woot: One can only dream.
