@Makman. I've posted some info in our Dropbox in the Information Folder.
Not sure if the following Info is correct - If not ignore
What is of particular Interest is that the TypIIA only had one scope, it wasn't untill the TypIIC that the second was was implemented.
It may be worth doing the User Interface to reflect this - removing the Obs scope from the current Interface.
That way the TyPIIA and TypIIB would have an Interface with only 1 scope.
And then the TypIIC and TypIID would have the Interface as currently is with both scopes.
What do you think.
@Hans Are you creating the sub-variants of the TypII b/c/d.
Model would be the pretty much the same thru all variants.
Small changes like larger saddle tanks for greater range and the second scope :hmmm:

and ...yes ,i have told many times (and to myself) that i am quiting moding ,better say that by quiting i mean...'releasing' becuase there is big difference between making a mod for your private use than making a mod for releasing it...:-? BUT modding is like a .....virus ,it 'hits' me from time to...time...
finally,i never played to other resolutions that the ones i told you so i can't confirm anything but subsimers here, say that the resfix is scaling properly all elements so you will have no problem at manual targeting.(now ,look how are the marks for the RAOBF in the incoming gui)

Finally you have 6 new tutorials covering everything you need to know to make your first masterpiece:up:
Close to 4 hours of learning material.
Also i am currently uploading the texture&templates i told you about they are all show in those tutorials.
I made a new folder in tutorial it is call Textures&templates.
And reaper just tell me where you want me to upload the Fletcher?
Also i am uploading new screenies for the media/crew section.
I am uploading since early last night and in 2 hours everything should be in and the tutorials are all in so just grab some popcorn and sit in front:yeah:
A new video will be in by tomorrow and lot of new stuff to come in very soon:rock:

Has anyone any pics etc of the TYPII TDC. I could make one for it.
Here is my VII TDC (This can be converted over for SH3 when we are making the VII User Interface).

Thanks Hitman, So they used the same TDC then - cool. That makes thins easier.
I taking a little bit of poetic licence placing the Fat/lut dials onto the TDC :).
But I think it gives the best flexibility in the use of the TDC rather than opening separate panels for them.
But it could be done if 100% authentic was required ;). Yes please post the Pic - you never know I may just do it (I'm a bugger for wanting things perfect :))

Ps: What is the very topleft dial on the TDC, I have it as the Impact angle for the Fat/lut torps. - It appears to be that one in the pics I have.
As for SH4 - If anyone wants to convert it for sh3/4 in the meantime they are free to do so. I'll try when I get some time - but I've only used SH5 for UI modding so not familiar with the ini methods of sh3/4.

Looks like the Torpedo Imapact dial is the one on the TDC and the remaining 3 are on the fat/lut panel.

Since now i can included my own animation the Wilhelmshaven harbor will have life more than never before, i plan to put admiral Doenitz walking with officers on departure and to animate the small crane moving torpedoes.
If the framerate can take it i will made more new animated stuff to bring life in SH3.

I also have those pictures, they are from the official inspection of U505 by american navy technicians after being captured.
Picture 2 shows the dials to switch from single shot to salvo, salvo selection and some other options (Fan shot while turning, etc). Those are in the CT, and you can see above to the right the little case with the 6 round lights for the 6 torpedo tubes -lit when tube is ready and blinkig when it shoots, then off when empty.
In the Type VIIs those dials had a repeater in the control room to allow shooting from there (Using the observation scope in low light conditions but not enough for surfaced attack) but in the IXs everything was in the CT as there was enough room and both scopes were there. :salute:

After i saw what they did to sh5 i tough that my only choice was to improve sh3 and i can live with sh3 because i went on the Atlantic and the water is not transparent not anywhere close they put it in sh5.
After my recent tweaks to the sea i prefer my water to any other versions because it is more closer to the real thing.

My conclusion after all those years is everything is about the light if you get the light right then you can do almost anything.

Looks Great but just one issue to use in game the Original scale will not work due to not being linked to a dual stadimeter like on the real thing.
You'll need to use the scale the Makman has in his RAOBF - this is the same one as I use for my RAOBF.

That what i though because the hole in the middle is rather small with the model i made but it is no big deal to rescale it to fit.
one thing also i noticed that some modders are texturing their boat and devices according to museum display and this is not accurate at all because the boat were freshly commissioned and all interior and devices were brand new and also Germans were very strict on cleaning and they took great care of their equipment.
For the exterior it is correct to have worn surface after a couple patrols the sea weathering start to show.

Sorry Mate by scale I didn't mean the size of the RAOBF but the scales used for calculations.
You need to use the numbering found in the Pic above of my RAOBF or as in Makmans current RAOBF.
The real ones used on the original RAOBF wont work in the SH3 game ;)

@Hans, After re-watching your vids I've gone back and redid some of my UV layouts.
I had a seperate UV map for each mast/rig and also for the Life boat support struts.
I've now placed all 4 Masts and wires on to one UV Map.
And for the Life boat struts placed them on to the Lifeboat UV Map.
Hopefully I should be good to go tomorrow to start texturing my Trawler :D

Just like reaper mention our workflow involved a lot of optimization i would say that in 1 model i have 40% of real design work and 60% of optimization.
I also optimize particle system because a lot of them are having way too much particle emit for nothing, when i see 1000 particle emit i drop it to 500 with an adjusted alpha mask and the result is way better than stock with less impact on game engine.
Also i made all my model with in 3 differents version low.medium,high so at the end if everything combined put too much stress we will revert to the lower res version on less important ships and features.
The sub interior is the most optimize piece of all, imagine that each single nuts or valve you will see in it was all instanced and place by hand ask any modder who deal with 3d and you will see the amount of work required to do this.
We also blend Ambient occlusion and specular pass in paint program so it used zero resources on game engine and they even look better.
We optimize each UVW layout so less ram and draw call are made by the engine.
Our workflow is much slower than any other modders but it is the price we have to pay to give you all the amazing features and hours of brand new content.

No ubi Romania did a fantastic job at it and i will never bash them down because i know how hard it is to bring such an amount of work under pressure.
Ubi did their best in the amount of time they were allowed but if they had 2 years more to work on it it would have been perfection.
We are just optimizing to the extreme everything that we can and this is really boring and time consuming but essential.

Yes you are right unfortunately the future of sim is pretty dark because no more company are putting the time and effort to bring us those little marvel from the early days of sim development.
It is all a matter of money and even nowadays they are dumbing down all new game so they can reach more sales.
That why i decided to put the effort in SH3 because i know they won't give us our dream sim anytime soon.
The good old days of small studio doing labor of love is over.

Well now that Hans has supplied the members of the Team with the greatest set of Tutorial videos (11GB's worth of how to of creating the ultimate SH3 ships).
I will need plenty of sustenance to start work on producing my own ship re-texture and optimizations.
So to that effect I've created and ordered (Shipped today) a new Mug to help me through the hours :haha: - Gonna need lots of hot tea down the road.
A bit of a dent to the pocket but will be worth it when I'm sitting in front om my PC creating my masterpiece :har:

A question for the HAHD team.Can we get a better idea of what HAHAD will bring to the SH3 world?What changes will you make to the actual gameplay.Will you guys be willing to make your mod work as a plug-in to GWX or NYGM,LSH5,WAC etc?If you are trying to create a super mod then can we get some ideas of the changes to the core gameplay.
I ask this because I played GWX for a few hours last night and find its a very well made mod.It has all these little tweaks that just add immersion and I find myself wishing to have HAHD added into it.

they cover most topics thoroughly, and have even updated their mission statement considerably since i first stumbled upon this thread way back in january or february.
right now they're making the transition from what i considered to be a simple re-skinning of the type II u-boat to a complete whole-game re-skin, a new GUI, and even some surprises like new interiors, uniforms, etc., and some possible changes to the game itself... so yes, a supermod by almost all definitions...
bob knows i've been patient, lying awake thinking about it almost every night, but if you just read the whole thing, dig through the website, and read the thread every day, you may find that all of your questions will be answered soon enough...
in the meantime, pray for patience like the rest of us, and don't disturb the mad scientists at their work... *shhhhh*

There will be in the next days a very important 'meeting' in which the team will decide on which supermod the U-Boot_HAHD will be released as an add-on for it.
as the work has started for the ships (really ...i have to say here that it is really amazing the tutorials and the tools that Hans has uploaded for the team in order to create the 'new age' ships), it is time for this decision to been taken somehow about now.
really guys...you all must come and work for the sh3...this mod is not making for been named as ''U-Boot_Hahd''...this mod is been making for the sh3 itself.Hans will lead you to this 'path'....
it is too early for this mod to be released as stand alone supermod for many reasons but this will happen sooner or later ,have to take part some discussions with some people and if all run 'smooth' at these discussions ....the road will be open and the mod will be finished in less than a month ( i am talking for the core files not for the...ships...these will take as long as need given the amount of work)
note: all the above can 'change' after the meeting ....are only my personal statements (not team's )

Makman,I wonder if I may make some suggestions for HAHD.I have been playing around with the typeXXX.sim files for a few days now and find that the crash dive of the uboats is way off.Crash dive speeds,acceleration and turn radius are the three things that add feel to the differences in uboats.Tweaking of the crash dive times doesn't seem to be done in any mods I have tried.Its a simple change to the ManBT_flood_speed and I have my XXI submerging at 45secs.45secs to submerge feels like a lifetime.:rotfl2:
Am trying adding some weight to the typeIIA also.The extra drag Thomsen's ships mod adds feels better but it can be improved with a bit more mass.Its just a slightly less rocking feel to it that I think is more realistic since its not a 14ft boat out at sea.

Almost everything as been modify the only work left is the fatigue model and damage model and some few thing.
I mean that we have to decide what kind of damage model we will go for and like i already mention i don't want our mod to be totally focused on hardcore player nor arcade either but i favored a more balanced choice between realism and ultra realism. I want everyone to be able to enjoy the game.
I feel like a parrot repeating this from the beginning, it would be almost impossible to fit our work in any other supermod only simple part would be possible and good luck to any modder who will try to do so because they will soon see that after adding some part of our mod in other supermod that everything will start to CTD and i put enough of my time in that project that i won't start answering all the questions regarding porting some part on other mods.
Every other supermod have their own customized setting and the file structure are all link to some other part of the sim so that modifying a small part would have adverse effects in critical aspect.
There will be scripted campaign, custom mission and all the stuff people expected to see in any other supernod.
It is not because i don't like other supermod it is a technical priority because i balanced everything to work optimally in SH3 so please stop spreading the idea that our mod is just an add on because this statement is totally wrong.
Other supermod that i compared and test FPS to see the difference were not optimize at all and they pull down my system to as low as 13 frame per second and this is not ok for me because i want a minimum of 30 fps on low end system like mine.
So far i managed to do it with lot of optimization everywhere i could.
So if you understand what i mean is that putting part of my work in a non optimize environment will bring you the CTD festival.
Also this discussion is completely irrelevant with multiple sh3 install if you are not happy with one mod then play only the one you prefer and stop bothering people who work their ass out to give you FREE content!
Sorry to sound rude but people have no idea about the amount of work that is required to get to this level.

Well that all makes perfect sense. In fact, if you see all the contents and changes with this mod, and you know just a little bit about computers, than you know there is no way in hell you can make this work with another supermod. But Hans, your own teammates don't even know this? :hmmm:
By the way, you might also want to place a message saying you're not going to respond to any requests like 'can you program this and this into the mod?' Because I imagine you're going nuts when people are asking for all kind of features when you're already in this state of development...

Funnily enough, I never had thought that it had been conveived as an add-on, except at the very early beginning when it was just a project about the Type II. But as soon as Hans came back and started showing all the work put into environment, models, etc I took for granted that this was the start of a new supermod :woot:

Other supermod that i compared and test FPS to see the difference were not optimize at all and they pull down my system to as low as 13 frame per second and this is not ok for me because i want a minimum of 30 fps on low end system like mine.
So far i managed to do it with lot of optimization everywhere i could.
So if you understand what i mean is that putting part of my work in a non optimize environment will bring you the CTD festival.
Also this discussion is completely irrelevant with multiple sh3 install if you are not happy with one mod then play only the one you prefer and stop bothering people who work their ass out to give you FREE content!
Sorry to sound rude but people have no idea about the amount of work that is required to get to this level.

@Hans : i said that at this state the mod can't be released as a stand alone supermod for many reasons that will be discussed at the 'meeting' . if ,after meeting, your statement is still to go for a stand alone supermod then...ok i agree with you!you are the 'teacher' and the leader ...i will follow you but need to discuss some things first before saying 'officially' that you go for a stand alone supermod!needless to say that you know that you have my deepest respects to your efforts!

Speaking from experience, and for your own sanity... make sure you back-up your work on an external device. In many ways, the work itself is more valuable than the computer.
During the construction of GWX, my old PC died. The poor thing was thrashed to death from exhaustion I think. Unfortunately, it seems to be a "cost of doing business" if you know what I mean. It did cost me a great deal to replace that PC... but some important data I lost... was MUCH HARDER to replace.

Lehmann, the "father" of GWX, the best (in my opinion) to date SH III megamod has posted a message here.
For me at least, this is one of the best possible signs that this project is and it will be supported by many important modders around here.
Any help given to the HAHD team will be appreciated and I am sure that the team is still opened to dedicated active potential members.

First wanna say that I cured the health regen issue that plagued Stalker community for yrs.I ca't remember exactly what it was but I do remember it being a stat in the main actor.dat file that was worded for health regen but actually had no effect in game at all.The modders tried and tried and got nowhere due to this decoy:down: the devs left in that file.That said I think I ....quite easily fixed the dive times in SH.Seems that no mods have done realistic crash dive times and I would like to see HAHAD or any mod have it.
GWX has way off dive times.I am drinking some brewskis right now while testing so I may be a few secs off but this is what I gather.This is at flank and top speed of sub before I hit crash dive key....then I wait for the bell to ring and start timing.
IIA=25secs......IID=10:o.....IX=25....XXI=25

Its very easy to change as its only the "ManBT_flood_speed" in the individual subs.sim file.I have read where people were trying to fix the dive times by playing with things like the bite of the dive planes.A Uboat though must be filled with water before anything happens as the dive planes are very small and only work when the sub is sinking.
Here is the TypeII stats.....sadly I have not found the other sub types to have such detailed chart.:-?

Interior description :
-All sub compartment model
-High quality shadow pass and AO
-Animated engine
-Animated crew in different compartment
-Custom made new crew character
-Highly detail texture
-Animated torpedoes loading sequence
-New interior effects like water drop,water leak, smoke and fire in panels
-Interior flooding when taking damage
And more.
To make all that possible in Sh3 i had to made hours of optimizing and instancing parts one by one re using texture in original way and much more that i don't remember all.

Also don't go crazy with the 3d parts on ships because you will need the tutorial for optimizing them when using more than one.
I mean that there is a technique i learn from privateer on instancing 3d parts so the engine will only have to load one object instead of all.
Same technique was used on Fletcher turrets, this tutorial will be a short one around 15 min showing how to do it in S3d editor.

Cool, Can't wait for that tutorial :up: Used the Tire 8 times so that will be needed so. Also used the Lifeboay - but deleted the nuts as no need for them at that scale :up:.
Well Model is 99% complete now (Just need to texture the prop and rudder using your technique for animated texture parts) .
Well may as well show of some screen-shots of the Completed item :D

Thanks Mate, The lifeboat is the same model as on the original one just re textured.
As far as I know most Fishing boats of that size would not have had Inflatable dingy s anyway. The wooden boat would have been cheaper and more available for use on commercial trawlers of that time ;).

Since i didn't made the tutorials on more complex ships take note that a lot of ships have a sinking 3d model counter part so when doing those ship you have to replace the ship half with your new one so when someone sink it it wont show the old texture model underwater.
Since makman will attempt at ships also and other potential modder like Bakkel might join us then the new HAHD ships will start to pop up quite fast:yeah:

Hi mate,
Affirmative there will be one on animation and how to integrated in game but we don't want to go nut with animation because it is an all new ball game for the game engine, this is taking way more resources on engine then static mesh.
I will show how to optimize the animation loop by reducing the amount of animation frames without loosing too much quality.

Not in Sh3 you cannot you have to force it via the control panel of your video card and it will apply to sh3.

Welcome aboard and for release it hard to fix an exact date because thing sometime go awkward without warning but to put more precise indication i have to finish the interior of typIIA and everything should be fine for our first release:up:
Since the last couple of week i was pretty busy setting workflow for our team but now i can concentrated on the interior so thing should go faster.

Yep you have to activated in your material node type 2 just click the Disable Z-buffer write option and you will get the alpha working in game:up:

Your ship is ok an your alpha is working fine what you see is the dark shadow from your AO pass just go in your paint program and erase the dark shadow and use your chain to make a soft shadow underneath .

Yes my friend i am aware that alpha blend cannot be used everywhere but it work fine on thing like chains for anchor, radar on battle ship and other place.
I also used it in harbor to make hand rail with chain.
Also fog effect like underwater will interact with alpha.
We used it only where it is possible.

Maybe you read in my mind because i already made a small loop of sailor opening door on ship and walking to ballustrade i also made one for walking on deck and climbing stairs.
It was part of my list of surprised features on release but now i spoil it:haha:
For the engine i didn't notice any frame drop but that for sure i wont add 100 of them on deck.
The engine can take it if you know how to correctly optimize your animation i mean that i made small loop with few frames but they still look good.

Uhmmm....I think my ship is "exclusive": Itīs the VonDos Titanic...I know this isnīt an stock SH3 ship, but I started with the Titanic. For the moment only for test and practice. I like the Olympic camo skin, also working on that...Difficult but progressing...

Just saw the video clip and I'm gobsmacked. Excellent work mate, I particularly like the tyres, coupled with the anchor it seems to give the hull much more depth. If this is just a taster I can't wait to see the battlewagons :salute:

Question,how will we manuever around the sub.I am not against the free roaming around the sub ala SHIFT-F2 but find it kinda annoying and so prefer to click to new sections.Will we still be able to click from one end of the boat to the other?
Also,how about making a reason for us to travel the boat.The beauty that I know is coming should be seen alot.Just to travel the sub to observe is kool but we can also have a reason.
Fore and aft Torpedo guy=Weapons management screen and no other way to bring this up.This way you travel the full length of sub.Another is the Captain's quarters.This could have a small book that when clicked on could bring up the Captains log and no other way.I was thinking that crew management could be linked to crew quarters but I feel many will not like it.

I forgot to mention that everything i will add in interior will depend on impact on game engine if the frame rate suffer too much some features will have to be drop but i will see that when everything is set.
I plan ahead of that with low resolution compartments in the worst case, but even with low res compartments it will look good enough to enjoy:up:
The reason why it is so long to finish is the optimizing process but like i mention earlier it is the only way to have all those features in game.

I wanted to know more about the gameplay side of things, are we looking at uber realism? General Realism? Is it going to be more along the lines of NYGM gameplay or GWX or how about WAC?

Welcome aboard and thank for the good words.
My philosophy regarding gameplay is that i don't want to focus only on uber realism because a lot of people will be left out and i don't want it either to be Hollywood style or arcade, i am aiming at a balanced choice between the 2 or i also consider making 1 version for hardcore player and another one for casual player.
I just start recently to test some damage model to see how thing will turn out.
Also i am not alone in that decision our team will soon have a good discussion on this matter.

you get me wrong mate ... i didn't posted it as something 'new'
about:
1) the camera.cam that is in there is working excellent at BOTH sh3 and sh4
2) yea...it is exactly the same thing . i didn't posted it as something 'new' but as something more...'comfort'. believe it or not , there are people here that are unable to make that kind of edits at camera.dat BUT ,on the other hand, everybody can drop the camera.cam in his library folder and have the same result. so....same results with simpler way= better.
3) i know what these edits do and i had my reasons that didn't say a word about it . the mouse wheel is also used for toggling the magnifications at scopes and with these edits at commands you are 'ruinning' the scope's levels . maybe this effect is nice at free camera (and i agree) but it is not acceptable for the scope's levels . if you could find a solution to this issue would be,indeed, a nice addition .

Clicked the wrong button in JGSME and it removed all my files and overwrote them with the originals :wah:

Tried everything even Harddrive recovery software. But JGSME wroth over my files with the originals and alas there gone.

Sounds like the team needs a Source Safe Server to store all work in common location.
Then you just check out the files you need to work on.
Then check the files back in with updates/changes when done.
This would also ensure other team member changes are always in place when you check out the file to MOD.

I did work from home and accessed these servers to check out files for projects I worked on using PPTP connection to Corporate Proxy Gateway.
Client Software is required to access the Source Safe Server.
When you check out a file, it is D/L to your PC and the File on the server is locked until you check the file in again.
When you check the file back in, any changes you have made are U/L to the server and the file is unlocked allowing others to check those files out.
A history record of all changes made is kept for at least 14 days so changes can be rolled back if required.
Rollback can be done at the individual file level.
The Source Safe Server can also be setup to create scheduled backups. Typically keeping backups of the last 35 days at 7 day increments.
Some of the DEV types around may know more about it.

The colors of the whole boat are too saturated, don't you think? With such colors it looks more like a toy. Like Hans said - I would sink it for the color alone :03:

wait for Reaper's reply . he is the one 'behind' the dropbox and he will tell you more about it but ,as far i know, dropbox is not used anymore by the team .
ps: come on Foz....you don't really believe that files are 'safe' when uploaded on internet ,do you ?

It no real big concern to us really. Dropbox is just used a a basic fileshare for our supporters really.
Also the security concern is when 2 people upload the same file that one can get the short key for account access. That not going to happen as only one of us uploads a file to dropbox at any time and there not the same ;)
