Currently playing as Germany, as you can see the year is 1939, almost all of europe is mine, already own half Africa and will start to move into the middle east, down to India, once I secure all the ports in that side I'll start attacking the remaining british forces in Africa, I hope to have this done by mid 1940, I already have a colony in South America, Brazil will be my first target, I'll try to bring Argentina to the Axis and eventually once all of South America is mine, I'll gather troops and move into Mexico then hit USA from the Mexican border and do some Amphibious assaults....hopefully by 1945 all of the world with exception of USSR will be mine.

I think my best shot would be the one where I shot a passenger from the door of an away moving Blackhawk at ~160 meters. Pure luck and wasnt aiming at him, but still. :DL

Ow and that reminded me of an funny accident I saw today while playing. The Vista Point in Dragon Valley had been captured by the US team. I was guarding it from the hill across the river. I saw a enemy chopper coming from Market Place and got ready to shoot the pilot when it landed at VP. Instead of landing, the pilot jumped from the chopper from ~3m altitude alongside one other guy who was riding it. The now unmanned chopper then came down first crushing the other and then finally the other guy aswell. :haha:

Hmm ?! An interesting way to carry a backpack :arrgh!:

I see you're still liking Arma1 and Avgani, so this you should be intersted in this: http://dev-heaven.net/wiki/cbp-caa1

It's basically Arma and QG content for Arma2, free of charge of course. Download that, and Avgani should work ok in Arma2. Using this (http://dev-heaven.net/wiki/cbp-caa1/Yoma_Addon_Sync_Server) method makes the downloading part very easy.

Yeh, I saw that some time ago. But it's not the content I like in ArmA 1, but more like the fact that no matter what I try, I cant get the performance/quality to be satisfying for me in A2.

I got everything I need in A1 with good performance, so.

It increases the chance for partisans to rise up, lowers your IC and your transport capacity. If you get it high enough you usually have to deal with breakaway states too (The US is particularly susceptible to this).

Normally, if dissent goes out of control (Since dissent lowers your IC, and you need IC to satisfy the population, so at some point the dissent will practically feed itself) you would get a revolution event (I only ever saw the Communist Revolution for the US, so I'm not sure how many countries have this) that will lower it some and of course radically change the government.

If I thought I had no life before, this thread didn't help matters... I have a ton more games I need to pickup, but first a PC Upgrade...

currently re-installing BF2 as that Forgotten Hope mod looks tasty...

Faces of War looks great and is only $9.95 at the Ubisoft store...

I am so behind on my Battlefront.com games, still need CM: Africa Corps, CM: Shock Force, or whatever the modern era one is called... not to mention the Theatre of War games...

WWII Online looks a lot different from way back in the early days... ( '01-'02 ) The Armor warfare is some of the best... I miss my Renault... :P my favorite tactic as a frenchie was to hide that wee tank inside the buildings and ambush the unawares... This was way before they added the real german armor, of course....

Not to post without screenies, I give you The Panzergnome....

It's been an...interesting game...

Took Poland as normal, then the Frenchies threw history out of the window by attacking across the Maginot line, not one to miss the opportunity I drew them into Germany, then shut the door behind them and smashed them. Rolled across the undefended Maginot sector, into France and into Paris before the end of October. Somewhere along the line here, I got Turkey onto the Axis.
Britain was digging itself in, but I took a gamble and invaded Portsmouth in December, it was a hard slog up the British Isles, but by March 1940, they were in our hands.
So, after a skirmish with the Home Fleet in the Channel (which I won by dropping twenty tonnes of Stukas on them) I brought the forces back, and set them up along Poland (with a short diversion in the Low Countries and Norway).
May came, and I launched Barbarossa, straight into a great big Red Wall. All of the breakthroughs were halted, except in the south. The offensive towards Odessa started well and we got reasonably far.
We dropped in an assault team in Arkangelsk and tried to head inland towards Moscow but were forced back by supply issues.
Meanwhile from Turkey an armoured group pushed up towards Stalingrad, with a Motorised Inf heading out to Sverdlovsk. The Japs aren't on board yet (the Italians have only just arrived :damn:) and we've got Stalingrad now, but Leningrad and Moscow are out of reach.
It's only a matter of time now before the Soviets regroup and then it's all over.

I hate Barbarossa....actually, hate is not strong enough a word for what I feel...in fact, I don't think there IS a word for the amount of loathing I have for that particular military event whilst playing as Germany in HOI, but if we don't go to them, then come '42, '43, they'll come to us. :damn:

The map was Crete, and the server was (IIRC) the Damned Priests (a good server). The JU-52 was loaded up while the pilot waited, but then more paratroopers came, and more and more, and still the pilot waited. It got so crowded that some of us decided to go on the wings (possible if the pilot takes it steady).

I tap the scope of my HK417 nervously. Few meters from me,
under the camonet that makes our little camp virtually
invisible from air, Hunter is crouched over the weapons
crate. I can see his lips moving as he mutters to himself,
I move closer, to a hearing distance.

"-Should I take the M110? It's pretty nice.."

"FINALLY!", though to myself.

"-But look at this camo! Desert camo for winter ops?!"
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/1-13.jpg

*Sigh* I move away and go lay under a tree.

Moments later, Hunter comes up to me. "Ready?", "aye".

With Hunter leading, we start moving to west, towards
our target; some dip**** general needs to be taken out. We
dont get far from our camp before starting to see glimpses
of baddies moving in a forest infront of us. The trees
block our line of sight and we keep losing them, but atleast
we know right about where they are. We move forward.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/2-11.jpg

"-Patrol, straight ahead"

I hit the dirt next to Hunter and get the patrol into my sights.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/3-10.jpg

"-You take the two on the right, I take the two on left?" Hunter
whispers, "Rgr".

The ground sloped abit and Hunter lost his visual on the lead
guy when he went prone. I had clear line on my targets and shot
them without problems. Unfortunately, we werent quick enough,
they radioed for reinforcements.

First came the Mi17, swooping thru the air to drop it's cargo;
Russian paras. I was busy watching for the paras to notice an
approaching BMP, so I was abit puzzled when I heard Hunter asking;
"Run?".

Run we did, back towards our camp, dealing with another patrol
on the way. Hunter grabbed an rocketlauncher and we returned
back to where we encountered the BMP.

*SWOOOSH* Hunter's first rocket hit the ground, dozen or so meters
from us. I provided cover and managed to pick off one of the
Spetznaz' the BMP was patrolling with. Hunter's second rocket found
it's target spot on and the threat was eliminated. With a big bang
I might add.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/6-7.jpg

After making another trip back to the camp to pick-up weapons
for Hunter (He cursed the rifle he had and took his trusty M40),
I glanced at my Mickey Mouse clock, "45 minutes and we havent
gotten more than 500 meters from our camp?!"

My pondering was interrupted by a burst of AK fire. I swinged
around and saw Hunter laying in the ground, wounded. Right infront
of me, Spetznaz was hastily reloading his AK, I cut the bastard
in two by firing my rifle at his general direction. Some bandages
and abit of morphine and Hunter was back on his feet.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/7-4.jpg

Picking off random patrols, we made our way towards a ruined
village to the west. It was in the outskirts of the village
where Hunter met his greatest nemesis to date; one extremely
stubborn UAZ driver. Clip after clip he put lead to the UAZ,
but it refused to die, it did however drive away like crazy on
the first sight of Hunter.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/8-2.jpg

Hunter, not wanting to give up, moved east of the village to lay
in ambush in case the UAZ comes back, I checked the village and
bagged me two Russians trying to keep warm around a fire they had
lit up. Hunter gave up on the ambush business when I spotted three
paratroopers to the north of the village. Hunter let off some
steam on the poor bastards, and lead... lots of lead.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/9-2.jpg

It was maybe an hour into the mission when Hunter wanted to have
a lunchbreak, I got out my MRE's, but no, not Hunter. Instead he BBQ'd
one of the Russian medics we had killed earlier...
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/10-2.jpg

After the well earned break and with our bellies full, we
continued to move towards our target. Some 100 meters from the village
we came upon a gate to the target area, guarded with 2 baddies.
Just as we got rid of them, whoelse, than the damned UAZ
drove right past us. A hail of bullets, but no, it didnt stop, it
turned around and drove past us again. More lead to it and it
went off the road. Giving rat's arse about anything else, Hunter
rushed to the UAZ and over the tremendous machinegun fire, I could
hear Hunter cursing franticly at the driver. Hunter 1 - UAZ 0.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/11-1-1.jpg
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/11-2-1.jpg

After yet another interruption, we returned to our mission.
Hunter must of had magnet in his pants as he got shot again near
the gate by one of the guards. Nothing some morphine couldnt fix
fortunately.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/12-3.jpg

Past the gate, we spotted enemy camp with tanks, but
we decided to ignore them and head for the general, who's house
was clearly visible already.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/13-1.jpg

We circled around the camp from south and made a run for it. Hunter
being the well mannered guy he is, he didnt want the carpet to
get dirty so he shot the general thru the window.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/14.jpg

Now, we had to get out, which wasnt helped by the tanks now starting
up their engines. I jumped to the driver's seat of the general's car (baaaad mistake) and stepped on it. I tried to use the road and drive
right bast the enemy camp, but had to go off-road when we started
to get shot at. Being too busy with looking over my shoulder for
the tanks, I didnt notice the ridge ahead. I flipped the car...
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/15.jpg

Now stranded without a car and tanks looking for us, we came up
with a masterplan; I go hide like a sissy near the gate, while Hunter
goes to get us a new car that we had left near the enemy camp...
and it worked.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/16.jpg

Unfortunately, luck wasnt smiling at us in this matter either. Near the
ruined village, we got surrounded by enemies who started shooting at
us from left and right. Miraculously, we only lost our car in the
following firefight. With the tanks' engines clearly audible, closing
in on us, we ran like hell down the coast to our extraction point and got
out of the bloody island.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/17.jpg
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/18.jpg

After 2 hours and 14 minutes the mission was completed.

That blue on blue was pretty funny in retrospect :D

I was in one of the Brit squads and we had already secured the area, aka the village in the "Land Rover and troops defending"-pic. Our squad was just chilling out behind the houses because we still took some long range enemy small arms fire from about 700-800 meters away. We heard a chopper come in and thought "Oh great, the Yanks are coming to reinforce us", and soon enough a black MH-60 appeared over the horizon and touched down 50 meters away. Out jumped the American squad, and all I heard was "Enemy close, LZ IS HOT, OPEN FIRE!" PRRT PRRT

We started screaming all kinds of profanities, and luckily their aim was so off they only downed one or two of our guys, after which some disgruntled Brit opened fire on them and killed a few Americans.

Wow that dragon looks cool.. Aye guys how does that game run? good bad? Whats your take on it.

I'm thinking of getting it but is it really good or just a one time deal game.. is there replay value?

Graphics seem fair.

What are the strengths and weakness of that game. I'm for RPG games but is that a console hack type game or a true pc game?

Thanks

WH

Arclight
11-12-09, 11:44 PM
Runs fine on very-high, 4xAA dips the framerate a bit, but it's not a shooter so no real problem there. Not a slideshow either, ~25FPS. (Geforce 8800GTS 512, 4GB DDR2, 2.8GHz C2Q)

Imho, it's got some replay value; just play a different race and class. Race has a bit of impact on dialogue, and playing different classes is always interesting. There are different "prologues" for each race, so at least the first bit has 3 versions (maybe 6 if it varies with class as well). (only played 1 character yet, so I don't know how much effect race/class has on the overall experience)

Graphics are good, solid. Screenshots don't do it justice, really. JPG messes up the colors. :DL
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj2/EZatHome/Screenshot20091113042727181.jpg
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj2/EZatHome/Screenshot20091113042553522.jpg

Compared to the console versions, this one is clearly superior. For example, console doesn't get the top-down tactical cam, and there are complaints of graphics quality on the 360 and lowish FPS on PS3. I imagine it's the same as far as content goes, not that that is a negative, mind you. Bioware has always produced for PC, and I wouldn't say this game suffered from also being released for consoles... not the PC version, anyway.

As for strenghts and weakenesses, I can't be objective; I just love it. It's a classic Bioware RPG, if that tells you anything.

If I have to say what I like, it's the humour, good voice-acting and great characters, plenty to explore, plenty of distractions (random encounters, side-quests, random chit-chat between party members), many choices to make, good dialogue, plenty to loot... and finishing moves in combat. :D

Oh, and there's the thing about a ton of lore; they made a world, not just a collection of cooky-cutter environments to run around in and kill stuff to get another gold coin. There really is more stuff to read about as I collect codices than interrests me. I don't have that much interest in learning about the religion of that world, but it's all there.

Wolfehunter
11-13-09, 12:17 AM
Very good I like alot of lore too. Makes the game more indepth. Cool Thanks. How are the bugs? Not too bad no ctd, glitches odd events? Are they're tolerable or non existent?

Do you need henchmen or can you be solo too?

Arclight
11-13-09, 03:46 AM
Had my first CTD after almost 58 hours, second followed soon after, none since then (over 85 hours now). I suspect it had something to do with the game running in the background for a few hours while I was doing other stuff, but that doesn't account for the second crash soon after. Alternatively, it might have had something to do with the game updating the online profile in the background.

Whatever the cause, imho it's not even worth mentioning. 5 minutes of trouble for over 80 hours of gameplay; not many games are released in such a state these days. Though Dowly reported constant CTDs, possibly caused by multi-core CPU:
Well **** me funny. I fixed the crashing, it seems the game doesnt like to run on both processors.
AMD 64 X2 6000+, IIRC. :hmmm:

Haven't noticed any issues apart from that, but that doesn't mean they aren't there, of course. Still, I'm confident that any issues that are present are minor, and definetly not game-breaking.

There's a thread going on this game, might find it interesting. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=157895) ;)

*oh, party is a must. At least for me as a rogue; they don't do to well solo. But I think it's best to keep a party with you anyway. (a lot of the random events while travelling are ambushes)

I can spend an hour running back and forth between the camp and the party chest, to find just the right combination of equipment for everyone, only to change everything again after a bad fight. The new sounds and effects are awesome (for the engine) when I got the chance to shot my first round on the Marder it looked really nice  also you can now identify easily the weapons (MG42, Garand, Mortars) indeed a great remake :yeah: I think Close Combat II would be more awesome if they made a remake of it (also Russian Front deserves one)

CC3 has been remade already, Cross of Iron I believe it's called. Tho, I havent played it nor looked upon how much they've changed. Also, CC4 has been remade with a name of "Close Combat: Wacht am Rhein". Again, same as with CC:CoI, I dont know how much they've improved it, but looking at the feature list it seems to be like the CC5 remake. Need to get my hands on that one in the near future. :salute:

Oh yeah...

There's a community that still plays PG2 regularly
http://panzercentral.com/forum/index.php

They don't only play, but continue refining/creating MODS, scenarios, maps, campaigns. And they have a speciality called Campaign Challenges (CC), witch means many ppl play the same campaign and report theyr progresses / decisions and compare themselves with the others and discuss tactics...

That game is still pretty alive after so long...

Btw, there's also the possibility to play it vs humans (Warzone)

Even if I lose the beaches, the allies are faced with my panzer divisions (StugIII's bitches!!!).

As for the airborne landings, I only have 1 sector that has allies para's still holding up, but that's going to change when I get something else than those darn osttroops there (they always run out of ammo and I have to start asking for truce..)

Yes, the PG2 community is alive and well! I have the Adlerskorps WWII stand alone version, big download at 1.3 GB, but its really done well. Plenty of campaigns to keep you busy, I tried the Ethiopians against the Italians, talk about dfficult, lol Haven't tried the Campaign Challenge yet, its been so long since I've used this sim, going to take a bit to remember all the different angles to winning.

I've got Peoples General up and running, even this sim is freeware. Many mods for it also. The 19th century mods are a nice change, best to maneuver to a good defensive position, and let them come to you. Been holding off Wellington at Waterloo quite well using this method.

Moving to Western Europe with the "Red Danger" mod is nice to see, trying to take over the Scandanavian countries with the new "United German" war machine looks like a challenge! Look out Sweden, here i come! LOL

It is, and it's running pretty stable on my system. The only bug I've come across so far is a slight shader issue which was resolved by clearing my shaders cache in the My Documents BF folder, oh, and it seems to think that it crashes when I shut it down but by that point it's not really a problem.
Occasional CTDs but not particularly often on my machine.

Gameplay wise it's great fun, I think you'd love the sniper kit, I mean I can nail people with it quite easily so I dread to think what you could do with it! :haha: We've got Normandy maps now, Operations Totalize and Goodwood are good tank maps, but since German reinforcements depend on the number of flags captured there is sometimes a delay before Jerry gets the good stuff like the Panther and Tigers out, which can give the Brits a bit of an advantage, but it balances out and I've seen the Germans win as often as the British.
I enjoy finally having Iron sights on FH2 although by the time I've aimed down them someones usually taken my head off! :haha: Bayonets are handy but annoying that you can't actually fire your rifle whilst the Bayonet is fitted like you can in Red Orchestra, which is a bit of a disadvantage in Close Combat situations, in those times the Machine Gunner has the advantage.
I quite enjoy it, the only real problem I have with it is that the Iron sights function blurs the edges of the screen (which is a nod towards realism) but also seems to give me headaches, which is annoying. I might have to fiddle with the settings to stop that...but the gameplay (particularly when the teams work well) is good fun.
I haven't played many of the North African maps, the servers I play on (hslan and 79th) usually play Normandy maps. :hmmm:

As for the FH2, it has come a long way since I last played it. They've definitely played their WWIIOL as there's sounds and some of the buildings are taken from it. And overall, it has the same chaotic feel to it that WWIIOL has when the battle is raging on it's fullest. It's like the arcade version of WWIIOL, the gameplay is smoother, but then again there's things I disliked and propably wont be playing the game that much for. Mainly the MGs, they REALLY should make them deployable anywhere regardless of your stance. Sucks to not be able to go to the 2nd floor of a building and fire the gun from up there because you have to be prone to fire it. :shifty:

:har: I wondered how you got that minus score!!
Yes, some of the tank drivers really don't bother looking at the map, I've been run down a couple of times, in fact in that map I was nearly hit by that /10 Hanomag! :dead: The map was Fall of Tobruk, and yeah, it's a real sod to cover that first stretch of open ground, sometimes the Brits will bring their tanks right down and snipe you as you try to advance. The one tip for survival I found on that map is to use smoke grenades as the Spotter to advance, it's the only way you'll get forward without someone picking you off. I was quite lucky in one point, I took cover next to a wrecked Hanomag with smoke grenade ready and found it was an ammo resupplier, so I lobbed about five smoke grenades forward and created quite a nice smoke screen to advance in. Unfortunately a Tommy threw a Mills Bomb the other way so when I advanced I advanced vertically rather than horizontally... :hmmm:

Still think they should've kept going with FH1. The perfect mod, but it could be even better...

I'd still be playing FH1 and Battlegroup '42 especially as I thought that BG42 was fantastic...however the servers seem to be drying up, I used to play FH1 on the Damnedpriests server a lot, stopped playing for a while, came back and it had gone, I think the clan is still around as I see members on FH2 from time to time, but I haven't seen their server in ages, which is a shame as they were quite good. So, now that my machine will run BF2 I switched to FH2 and I've been playing it ever since.
