That game is quite tempting me, saw some other screenies on simhq, and some video on youtube. How does it handle with keyboard and mouse?

It handles pretty well, I can't really add much though as I now use my 360 controller as I find I can get much more refined control. From what I tried of the keyboard and mouse setup though, it wasn't too bad.

I used to play 18 wheels of steel with a joystick. :yep: When it comes to driving games,
your really want to use.. well anything but keyboard IMHO. :hmmm:

I tried my 360 controller first, it was awful - I just couldn't get it responding the way I want. Now I use keyboard only (mouse for views, occasionally), it responds just fine for bends just tap either A or D faster or slower to tighten or loosed your steering. Or use a wheel?

Try the demo, it's free. I don't know a game that starts so quick, I can be on the road in under 30 seconds from double-clicking the icon, and I get a great framerate. Lots of mods available, and the next patch includes support from Iveco, Volvo and Merc (iirc) so no more Ivedo, Valiant and whatever Merc is - although there are mods to replace them anyhoo. The next patch also gets round some keygen that's available, so that is good news, isn't it. :yep:

Alright, so it's lacking in any damage modelling*. Collisions are, erm, existing? They do occur, even the AI sometimes get caught out overtaking. The stock AI, as always, is improved with a mod, but still there are some issues - most notably queues of traffic in lane 1 when three lanes go down to two, and sometimes a car will slam the brakes on the moment a light changes from green.

*I assume this is similar to when GT appeared on the PS - no manufacturer wanted their car to look like it was damaged. I'm guessing the big truck players didn't either.

In the lore, it's the United States Colonial Marines AFAIK. And Cameron wanted to
make the movie 'Vietnam in Space' more or less, so it makes them to be americans.

Althought, I seem to very vaguely remember that it is the United Americas in the lore (NA + SA),
but I can't be sure of that without checking.

But the game is full of marine stuff. "'Oorah!" and the Generation Kill
"Actual 2-1 blaa blaa" radio chatter. You are right in that the movie never had
flag patches... but that's the least of the problems it has.

Also, note the 40 round mag on the Pulse rifle, it can be upgraded to 'extended mag', which holds 60. No one seems to understand that the damn thing
holds 90 or 99, depending who you ask. :stare:

Oh, and the Bishop drone in the beginning of the game is wearing dog tags
(very "in your face, look who I am!!!" way too). Pretty sure androids wouldnt get dog tags. :hmmm:

One tip more I could give is keep the brush hardness to about 70%. I've found it gives nice balance between smooth and hard at least in Photoshop.

Oh and the duplicate layer step isnt necessary. I just do it so I can revert back to the original quickly if I need to.

Well that wiki deal states that there is a "United Americas" which is not in fact the United States so my view seems to have been correct after all at least there is not a "United States of America" of course this information is never mentioned in any of the films so it was clearly just made up by who ever wrote that page.

That is one underlying problem with the entire Aliens franchise there is no solid cannon to go by really.Just scanning that Wiki most of it seems to have just been made up by whom ever.For example one article mentions some made up civil war on a colony planet that Dallas and Parker fought in which makes about zero sense it pretty clear in Alien that no member of the crew had any military training.It says that Parker had been taken POW surely if that was part of Ridleys story it would have been used in the film.



My personal view is based of of the first three Alien films in which no specific nation is ever mentioned but companies are implying that large for profit organizations like Weyland-Yutani have true power.

I will have to watch Aliens closely and see if any American flags are shown but I am almost 100% certain that none are to be seen.

@Dowly I agree with the 99 rounds in the pulse rifle pretty sure that you can "99" a few times in the movie. By the way the pulse rifle(props in the movie) is actually an M-1 Thompson with lots of plastic bits added to it and the Smart gun is an MG3 with fancy bits added if you look closely in some scenes you can see the metal links from the MG3 belt they used 75 round saddle drums they also cut about 4 or 5 inches of the barrels.

Technical manual says 99 rounds but magazines are only filled to around 95% to prevent jams ,(Yes I know I'm sad owning the Colonial Marines technical manual but I've always been a big fan of the aliens/predator universe:D)

As for the corps flag I'm fairly sure you see a low vis version on Gorman's uniform when he and Burke show up to talk to Ripley.

That was one thing that bugged me about Apone he is a Marine but those chevrons are the kind worn in the US Army. Marine chevrons are red and green.

Mod Fighter IV was a hell of a lot of fun. Hunter is really good at maintaining close-in pressure with his Dudley, and Herr-Berbunch's Ibuki was insane with those wake-up shoryus. Kept me constantly backpedling. I'll take some screenies next time for the matches that I am not in. I've also got to sort out that voice chat. It was kind of a pain to keep pulling that window back up every time.

Must do it again, and soon. For those of you guys that are not in the SubSim Steam group, you should really think about hanging out there. Hunter and Dowly have done a really nice job coordinating it.

Varies from non at all to "full real", but I cant judge the latter, just discovered the game.

I doubt though that it can be put on the same step as IL2 for example, the Arcade mode is extremely...arcade... (but fun!)

Well arcade is, well arcadey. Full on infuriating sometimes to outright fun.

Realistic battles is nice, full plane mechanics (stalls, spins, etc) along with proper damage models (for example in arcade someone posted a video on the forum of an He-111 taking 12 37mm hits... in Realistic battles 1 would of imploded it). It is also nice because it does show the planes and their distance which is nice if you don't want to spend forever looking for other planes.

Full Realistic Battles is, well full realism. You're limited to cockpit view, it is STRONGLY recommended to play this mode with a joystick as otherwise trim and everything else will screw up your aim. It's quite nice. No popup names to show where the enemy is either.

Well can anyone else confirm how the Full Real is??

It's pretty much old IL2 in a constantly online "furball" dogfight server.

It looks pretty for the most part but doesn't hold a candle to CloD in that respects. Consider IL2 46 modded and you've got the same standard of graphics with slightly better ground textures.
The only thing it has going for it really is the fact it holds quite smooth FPS almost all the time. Other than that in my mind you'd be better off sticking with IL2 46 modded or flying CloD unless the whole online arcadey shooter thing is for you.

Interestingly enough Race 07 and its expansion feature bug splatters on the windshields and on the drivers helmets when in an open cockpit car like the one in the screenshot. Annoyingly this screenshot was taken in an in game replay which shows the drivers view but not of the helmet visor or there definitely would be some dead bugs!:arrgh!:

Spike, its Star Trek Legacy, with the addon called Ultimate Universe (the newest version) which is a 3 gb download,lol Going to take it off and try the Trek Battles 3 addon, looks pretty good. Ultimate Universe has some great battles in it, like Kahn, and Wolf 359 or is it 357, I forget which one, but the Borg are so hard to take out, and when the battle starts, I'm always stuck using the Miranda. Its like trying to take out a Tiger tank with a BB gun.

I'd have said that the Ka-50 has more bulletproof glass in it than the Mi-24 because of the cockpit shape, IIRC bulletproof glass is hard to make in a bended fashion, so the curved parts of the Mi-24 are plexiglass, but the cockpit design of the Ka-50 has more flat glass panes and there's also the titanium bath-tub on both the Mi-24 and Ka-50 which help protect the pilots undercarriage (:03:). Of course, a few good rifle sized hits on the engine and you're still going to be checking EKRANs but in regards to getting your brain matter repositioned by a Muji, I'd say that the likelihood was lower than in the Mi-24, which is probably why they ditched the bubble canopy in both the Ka-50 and Mi-28, although quite what they were thinking with the Ka-52 is anyones best guess... :doh:

I think the bubble plexiglass canopies got ditched by most everyone.You'll notice that the AH-64 also lacks blown shapes because it also has armored glass.The later AH-1s also have flat or minimally blown glass depending on the model your looking at.

I think the primary reason they do not bother to use blown glass has more to do with ease of maintenance.Like any armor once it has taken a hit it is compromised and must be replaced.It is much easier for a ground crew to pull out a straight section of widescreen than a curved one.I bet it takes only a few minutes for a US Army or Royal Army Apache crew to swap out a section of damaged glass.

The Soviets also learned from Afghanistan I'm sure just how many hits a helo takes.The Us learned that lesson in Vietnam and responded accordingly with its next generation of helo designs.The Soviets most likely observed what the US was doing and also took notes from their own experience.
