11 March 1940, U-11(IIA) commanded by Oberleutenant z.s. Navarre damages the Destroyer HMS Daring with its last torpedo and sneaks away. The Daring attempts to head southeast to Scapa Flow, but is crippled and not able to fully repair. After nearly two hours at a speed of 2knts the Daring's captain determines that the ship must be abandoned. During the evacuation of the Daring, she is sighted by a squadron of swordfish bombers.

If you look back through this thread I posted several links to Photshop tutorials on how to make an image antique looking, which was how I found out how to do it.
I create an overlay layer using Photoshop and use different brushes in PS to create the dust speckles, hairs and scratches and then play around with the opacity of the overlay layer until I'm happy with it. I sometimes invert the layer depending on what looks better. Sometimes white "damage" show up better than black "damage".

Well you have to ask the captain for permission to enter the bridge.
;)
As I've already told in this thread there are two ways to enter the "forbidden" camerazones.
1. U-Boot or ship close to the desired object enables the following camara ("." on my keyboard; I guess it's "<" on the english keyboard) to move on/into the object.
2. A randomly appearing bug centers the following camara over the sternsection of the U-Boot or ship instead of centering it amidship.
There seem to be more possibilities to do it, but people keep it secret.
There are some camera mods around (i.e. sergbuto) - they may do the trick too. I've never installed one...
Have fun

Numbers 1 and 2 above are the only way I've used to do it. 1 is easier to set up and predict because 2 only sometimes just happens. I've tried to induce 2 somehow by using the arrow keys once you have selected the ship using "<" or ">" but to no avail. It just sometimes happens so take your luck when it comes.

Google "Orton's Process".
Basically, you take your image and over expose it. Then you duplicate it and apply Gaussian blur to it. Then blend it with the original (over exposed) image and adjust opacity and exposure to taste.
I use a few other little bits here and there including color correction.

A recently discovered color photograph believed to be taken by Pilot Officer Colin Aldred during one of his coastal defense sorties. The U-boot (short from 'Unterseeboot') is identified as an type IX long range german Uboot. Considering the pilot has had the time to take the photo, it is very likely that the german Uboot has been damaged and is sinking or in process to be abandoned.

I think that watch crews were assigned to scan a particular sector of the horizon and ignore distractions, even if something dramatic was happening in the opposite direction. One typical complaint from commodores was that whenever a ship was torpedoed everyone would stare at the explosions instead of maintaining a watch for additional torpedo wakes. :nope:
