Yea it was my first try... Sort of... I used to play a flight sim called Falcon 4.0 and there was ''photoshop'' thread kinda like this one on the forum i posted in at the time, so I learned a bit. Really all I did is I smeared the water spray all over the place to make it look ''different'' and put it in B/W with a film grain on top. Glad you liked it!

June 1940. Just outside the english eastern coast. A large british convoy headning northwards were intercepted by german U-boat. Two merchant ships -from medium to large sizes- were struck and sunked. Escorts couldn't pick up the foe. Photo taken from a smaller merchant ship.

Jim, mate. Can I give a quick tip? Make the picture B&W after you add the noise filter, OR if you use photoshop, check the monosomething thing, so the noise is B&W isntead of colored. Love your pic btw. :up:

No worries, try blur too. So the noise wont be so "sharp". I usually do 2xblur filter when I use photoshop. That should give it a nice blurry/noisy look. ;)

My tips for ppl who post to the thread (And these are MY OPINIONS):

- Think the camera placement. You can have the best Black & White effect in the world, but if the camera seems to be just floating in midair or in unnatural position, it ruins the shot.
- Check from youtube for guncamera videos and some websites for photos. THey usually are blurry and have quite an exposure on them (dark areas are VERY dark and white areas are VERY bright).
- Taking an screenshot and making a white border around it isnt and "realistic photo". It is just an screenshot with a white border, not belonging to this thread.
- And lastly, and maybe the most important, line your shot so that the focus is on the object you want it to be in. E.g. if you want ppl to see your uboat, dont take a shot with 2 merchants on the foreground with your uboat as a small dot in the background. Seems self-explnatory, but I see this alot. :D

You might want to check out if the shadows are only cast on the unit itself.

You might also find that one unit will not cast a shadow onto another unit.

Also....keep a sharp eye on the effects a shadow will have on your crew.

After finally getting SHIII to work on Vista I decided to give this thread a try. I was given command of U-8 a tiny type IIA submarine in August 1939. At 0100 September 1, 1939 I was given the order to head to AN21 to do a 24 hour patrol. Took the entire crew of 27 aboard and headed out of Kiel heading north. Currently U-8 just reached the North sea. Winds calm with no waves. Here is a shot taken from the escort as it was returning into port of U-8.

TarJak, LVS and Jim - nice stuff. What software are you using. I use PSP and sometimes PhotoFilter. I like the old photo 'trim' cuts. I have boxes of photos from the 40-50s cut in that style. Where do I find that ap? Thanks in advance.

Yep - been using Picassa and Snag-it also for several years - I do old newspaper, sepias etc but cannot find an 'on old photographic paper thingy'. Hmmm. Holy Moly I have a transvestite for a avatar! haha - now I have to post a bunch to get rid of it!! Jeezum Marie
