Default [WIP] Better Scopes 1.4

As has been mentioned i'm about to release the new Version of my Better Scopes Mod, hopefully improving upon a few things.

it's been rebuild from scratch, has a new background, more pronounced darkening of the attack scope, and a new bearing indicator.

both scopes at daylight:

the new heading scale has been changed to replace part of the static lines that were there before. i have also tweaked it to the best of my abilities so that is actually showing each degree accurately so one can better estimate ones spread angle.

now to the downsides and why this thread has been named [WIP] and not [REL]:

this is the obs scope at night. as you can see it could become quite difficult to make out the markings if the lighting conditions become much worse... unfortunately i was not able to find a way to have every line the same color at all times. I could light up the heading scale at night wile leaving the other lines untouched or permanently lighting them up.
However *imho* it looks awful having two differently colored lines in there at once and i prefer having to look a bit harder. I'd like to know how many of you prefer it this way and how many would like the lines to be more visible at the cost of having them colored differently than the heading scale.

Is there a way to make the lines red to simulate red nightvision lamps? Or even yellow and have that night and day. Might not be real but it could work for the time being and until you find a better solution.

Great to see the showing of each degree accurately. That was something they should have taken more time to get right. Glad you've done it.

the only color the bearing lines can have besides black is some shade of green. for some reason that seems to be hardcoded or i just can't find the place to change that...

the other lines i can make any color i want including green but as i've said - they would stay that way even in daylight while the bearing lines become black then.

i should also say that i would need to make the bearing lines relatively bright green as i've tried it with a darker shade and it was just as hard to see as it is now.

I have used your 1.3 scopes since they were released because I liked the readibility of the bearing tape. I don't use manual targeting so the most important thing to me is finding relative bearing so I can keep up with targets' relative position to me. From your night screenie I don't think I'd be happy with it, but the day version looks sharp! Do whatever you and others prefer; I will certainly give them a try but I'm perfectly happy with 1.3 so no biggie! I respect and appreciate your work. Zeke

Bright green sounds good for visability. I could live with that.

I like the scope you created and the easy read. would you mind if I used the MASK portion of your scope... the "viewable area" in my scopes. I will give you credit but some out there you can't see at night thru mine would find it easier to use.

Please let me know...

Thanks

Kapt.Klaus.

i like it this way very much!!

would it be too much work to release two different versions of the obs? one for those of us who eat our carrots, and one for those who have difficulty with their nightvision?

Hi man! the new stuff looks great. I just had a small request to make the bearing a different color etc

I actually think you might be the best to answer this, but as I write in that thread, check out how the new clock needles/hands are done. It might be a lead. Have not checked this myself (off to work here) but it might be worth a try.

cheers! unfortunately changing the "color=" value doesn't do anything for that itemID... Originally i had planned to do it this way but it seems there is some other place where this is defined - possibly hardcoded

i will try and release two versions, although i would have liked to avoid that... i'm also working on both UZO and Binocs atm and will try and take some screens during the day

sorry, must have missed this a moment ago - of course i won't mind mod away

however - i'd recommend waiting for the new version as it's been resized to match the default again which would be more in line with yours. once i'm done i can send you the psd of the mask if you want, too.

looks ok with green lines during the night:

but as the bearing strip changes color and i have no way to stop this it looks weird during the day imo:
