Running Vista x64 for almost one year without problems. SH4 (and addon) runs perfectly fine at max settings, and no problems with mods/UAC if you follow Doolittle81's suggestions.
Your configuration may indeed suffer a bit, but only way to find out is try ![]()

It runs like utter crap on my box after i upgraded to vista. The game is fine, untill something blows up real good. When that happens, my rig just doesn't seem to be able to cope. Either the screen blacks out for a bit, or the game crashes. Heck I've even had my PC do cold reboots after hitting a cruisers' ammo magazines. This utterly devastates the game for me

Runs like a dream for me, running Trigger Maru Overhaul and 1.5 on a quad core 3.2GHZ, 4GB 800mhz RAM, 2x 8800GTX in SLI, 2x 500GB SATA HDDs, 1000whz ultra cool psu with Vista 32bit.
I DID have some graphics driver issues with the 8800s in SLI about 8 months ago, but other then that my system has been really reliable and runs perfectly, unlike my old XP system! ![]() V |

Well... I just had the mogami in the torpedo training blow up without rebooting the box... What i did was, i turned off the IDE controller that's on the mainboard in the bios setup menu, and i turned off vsync in sh4. That controller has given me grief before, and i'll just turn it on again when i need it, which is seldom. I hope this is a definitive fix. the mainboard is an asus P5K

It's the RAM folks, bring up your RAM usage before and while the game is running.
Vista on IDLE eats up over 1 gig of RAM just to sit there and look pretty, it's awful (I know, I'm using Vista 64 with 4 gigs of RAM). After I kick up SH4 I regularly watch my ram usage go into 60%, running stock 1.4 game. Granted, I have EVERYTHING turned to max, and the game never stutters, but I can't even imagine running SH4 with 2 gigs of RAM... During my initial set up (Vista 64 won't boot if you have more then 3 gigs, I think, theres a stupid hotfix I needed to apply first), just running Vista on 2 gigs wasn't pleasant...running a graphics heavy game on it will probably be pretty slow. It'll run, but you'll need to turn as much off in the bells department as possible, and it'll probably still chug in places, but that's because the OS is eating half your RAM just to sit there ![]() A good GPU will help obviously. |

Nope, my idle is just over 512mb as I have cut some of the pretty crap that I don't use. It runs perfectly for me. I initially had some problems with it only using 3gb but I fixed it with a simple bios fix so now it runs all 4gb with no problems.
On my 64bit Vista machine though I have nothing but problems with games, same spec just different OS, yet nothing wants to run properly - as such that is the "work" machine now and my 32bit is my games baby! ![]() |

That's strange, I remember in my undergrad CS days mention that a 32 bit OS wouldn't be able to make use of the RAM because it can't address it all.
I wonder how that is possible, and if it's actually using that RAM rather then just recognizing that you have that much. I haven't had any issue yet, although SH4 and WoW are the only games I've tried running on it so far, I don't generally play computer games. |
