Holy cow, that is great news! If that's true RoF just got a new customer!

A feature so loved by RoF players that it will be removed from singleplayer in an upcoming patch.

Hello,
i second that - while i have been playing OFF i would have liked to also get my hands on RoF, but the online requirement along with paying for every additional plane was too much. Played it at a friend's PC for a few times and even if the aircraft models are superb, the "action" and lacking campaign was sobering.
But it's true, you have to pay for every plane apart from 3 or 4 (?) included ones, and internet-connection is a must. What especially pi**ed me off was the automatic download of new 600+ mb patches if you just wanted to play a short mission
But i'll buy it anyway if they drop this online bullsh!t.

Let's pray UBI does not follow this way with SH5 ..

Greetings,
Catfish

Thanks...

i wanted to revisit your thread and say "you were right"

the announcement of UBI and DRM means that you definately will have to be connected to the internet at all times to play sh5 and your saved games are kept on UBI servers and not on your computer so if UBI has server problems you may lose your saved games.

nobody has talked about it but i would guess you will have limits on games saves as well since UBI is storing them and they will obviously have storage space issues that go with that.

Has this been confirmed then? If true I'm going to have to seriously think about saying goodbye to the franchise. Based on everything else I've been reading about the game so far I'm not entirely sure that is going to be too much of a problem. Online connection is one thing but keeping saves on their servers isnt going to happen with me. To be honest, the way the games industry is going anyway i think I'm going to be moving on to new hobbies soon enough anyway - So many issues and so few really good games that make it worth it.

In addition to this post from Catfish, GIBOU hit the nail on the head in the original "DRM" thread.....I suggest you go read it.....What other information will flow from your computer to Ubisoft servers aside from SH5 data?
nQUOTE=Catfish;1237828]Hello,

1st you will have to buy the initial allowance to play the game,
2nd you may then buy the game, but pay a monthly fee for using,
3rd it will install Starforce Mk XVIII on your PC which will install itself in the eproms of your motherboard and can never be deleted again,
4th you will pay for every upgrade like snorkel, decoys, special torpedos etc.,
5th certainly also pay for every other type of U-boat,
(5 1/2 for another face of your captain's avatar)
6th you need a permanent physical direct line connection to the Moscow KGB server, or maybe to Beijing,
7th you will certainly be online all the time, but especially when you are doing online banking with your PC.

Ahem.

Maybe this gives the Devs some ideas to think of next ,
the WW1 sim "Rise Of Flight" is already heading in this direction

What i really think is some kind of short online check every now and then, like in SHIV - anything of the points mentioned above and they will lose me as a customer - however i sure think they will use more usual and contemporary methods

Greetings,
Catfish[/QUOTE]

Wow... store save games in a server ?? no way , i´m don´t buy sh anymore if this is true , let me play then to another games (sh3-4 il-2 , FS2009 ...)

clearly they want to kill Pc games , and this is the first steep, the next version could be console port or no release a pc game

what can happens wen the servers go down or the game discontinued or not soported ?
