Not Historically accurate, however it can be done.
it certainly isn't listed in the radar operator's manual...
but does anyone have any ideas as to why not? why employ only one radar set on an extendable mast for this era of diesel boats? didn't the later GUPPY conversions allow for multiple radar set extensions? what made the difference? is it just a 'feature' of sail geometry/configuration?

Anvart, could you explain how this can be modded (sensors_sub_US.sim) with S3D?

This photo gives an idea of how far up the SD radar mast could be extended

Great stuff!

Can I just say that where you have given the CE comment "Rising SD antenna!"

I think maybe it should be "Raising SD antenna"

I don't use S3D ...
May be you cann't do this changing with this prog (it's not finished) ...
But you can use MiniTweaker ...
Write Sensors_sub_US_sim.txt file with this content:

Version=1.4

Path=Data\Library\USSubParts\Sensors_sub_US.sim

[1]
DropDownName=NSS_EarlySD-->obj_Extensible-->Type
search,type,2,long,>2,Type

[2]
DropDownName=NSS_LateSD-->obj_Extensible-->Type
search,type,3,long,>2,Type

It's all

What is also accurate though is a surface search radar built into
a later periscope.
[edit]
ST radar ( I think )
I think its modelled in game
but I havent had chance to
look it up but I beleive it was
there in april when I tested
the first time.

Yes. In game we have NSS_radar_periscop ...
But it is other history ...

P.S.

Anvart I do not follow you here

"But it is other history ..."

please if you could again?

[edit] I found it in the
upgrade packs.

[UpgradePack 6]
ID= UpackSTRadar
NameDisplayable= ST Radar
FunctionalType= UpFTypeSensorPeriscope
UpgradePackSlotType= AdvPeriscope
Type=NULL
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptionCurrent= NULL, NULL, 0
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptions1=1944-07-01, 1944-12-31, 3000
UnitUpgradePackIntervalOptions2=1945-01-01, NULL, 1500
IDLinkUpgradePackElements= ObsPeriscopeST

IIRC you had to manually sweep with the periscope
other wise it would just give range data on peri target.
(that may be right that may be wrong)
I believe it was supplemental to the ships
SJ unit not a replacement for it.

Ты меня "не догоняешь" (sorry, it's teeny slang)?
We speak about the first post (not about periscope-radar) ...
And i would like to hear your opinion on it ...

P.S.
I think, peri-radar will replace ... peri ... and in game peri-radar works as radar, not radio (radar) range finder ...

In S3D, goto chunk 15 (early) / 17 (late), and change the type from RadarAntenna to Snorkel...
